Welcome to the first week of April 2025. We're getting close friends. We're about two weeks away from the draft.
Mike Ryan
I. This is, this is my Super Bowl.
Mike Fuentes
Really?
Mike Ryan
Draft is my Super Bowl. Yeah. As a Jets fan, this is. When we win, we win because everybody's going to tell us how good of a pick we had. And, and, and few years from now, that person will be either on another team or out of the league. But for right now, we'll win. And I'm looking forward to that feeling.
Billy Gill
I mean, you win up until actually draft night, right? And then once the pick is in, you guys usually shift your attitude to you've lost.
Mike Ryan
No, no, that's, that's, that's kind of an early 90s thing that kind of stopped late 90s. They stopped booing the jets draft pick. And every year now, it's, it's the best player that's ever been in college. And the only reason he's on the jets is because we're divine and we're gonna win the championship, but we never do.
Billy Gill
Can you, can you rank football? Super Bowls. And I'm not talking about, like, ranking like, Super Bowl 3, Super Bowl 4, Super Bowl 51, whatever. This is how I want to rank Super Bowls. And it's really, I think three or maybe four. These are the three that I'm going to suggest for your super bowl. So, and we can put them in the proper ranking. And if you want, you can, you know, tweet at us.
Mike Ryan
Sure.
Billy Gill
Tag us, hashtag gbf, whatever it is. Right. And, and these are the, these are the rankings. I want to know you, the listeners. Super Bowl. So your football. Super Bowl. Is it the Super Bowl? Is it the draft? Is it opening night? And is there any other things that we might want to throw in there? I don't think free agency falls in there, does it?
Mike Ryan
The, the, the, the first day of free agency could definitely be in there. Thanksgiving football could definitely be in there.
Billy Gill
Trade deadlines?
Mike Ryan
No, that, no, the NFL trade deadline isn't as fun as the NBA or the MLB. 1. I would put the, I would put free agency. I would. Because it's like starting at noon on the legal tampering period, you know, the first time they actually start talking to anybody, wink, wink. You just start refreshing Twitter. You just keep going until, until you see something, and then you panic. So I, I, I'll definitely put free agency in there. As a matter of fact, that might be my number one.
Billy Gill
Really? Okay, well, don't, I'll, we'll get, don't spoil it. This is what we're gonna do. Yeah, I like that. I think. Fans, if you're listening again, follow us on our feed. God bless football, and you can get us moving forward. I think that what we should do is we now have the five out there, NFL draft, opening night, the Super Bowl, Thanksgiving Day games, and then free agency as our five. And if you stay listening to this episode, later on, you will get my top five Super Bowls, Mikey's top five Super Bowls, and Mike Fuentes his top five Super Bowls. So that's an exciting thing. You want to play a game that I like to call Here's a Headline.
Mike Ryan
Absolutely.
Billy Gill
So for those of you who are new to the program, here's how Here's a Headline works. There's news all the time, but headlines are boring. So we play a game called Here's a Headline, where we just throw out a headline and then we break it down, not just tell you the headline. So we're going to go around the room. I've started the last couple times, so I'm feeling like I don't really want to start today. I want to pass the ball a little bit. I feel like we should start out with Mikey today. So, Mikey, do you have a headline for us? And here's a headline.
Mike Ryan
Hey, here's a headline. Browns quarterback deshaun Watson is using doubters as comeback fuel. That's right, folks. In a video he posted on his Instagram, he said, quote, everyone's doubting me. Everyone don't believe in me. Everyone don't think I can get back to where I was, but I know, and I believe the work that I put in what I believe in myself. So he thinks he's coming back to, I guess, play football at a mediocre.
Billy Gill
Level at some point where I don't.
Mike Ryan
Know what he thinks he's coming back to.
Billy Gill
Where is he coming back? Not even. What. Where is he coming back to? Because Cleveland last week essentially said, we regret ever making that decision. Vision.
Mike Ryan
Sure.
Billy Gill
So where are we going?
Mike Ryan
Desean Houston, Clemson. Is that where he's going back to?
Billy Gill
Wow. Did he leave early?
Mike Ryan
I. I don't.
Mike Fuentes
No. I think. I think he was a senior. I think he was done. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was done.
Billy Gill
All right.
Mike Ryan
Is desean Watson just kind of, at this point, a guy that you just kind of want to go away? I mean.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Mike Ryan
Like.
Billy Gill
Like, I think. I think everyone says good enough.
Mike Ryan
He's not good enough or exciting enough to even, like, get past all the stuff, and then there's all the stuff, and it's like, just kind of go away. Like, I don't. I don't. I don't want to see it. Like, I'm good. I'm good. If I never heard from you again, I have.
Billy Gill
I have something that I want to ask you guys that I was thinking about. I don't disagree with any of what you said, by the way. So you were saying that we think that he was a senior when he left. I have a hypothetical game to throw at you. It's a real game. It's a hypothetical situation. So who in the NFL do you believe? NFL player. Do you believe that left early or was granted one extra year of college, let's say the COVID year. Right. Even if they weren't in college during COVID so they get an extra year of eligibility even though they've already played in the NFL, which isn't how it works. But for the sake of this game, this is how it works.
Mike Ryan
Sure.
Billy Gill
Who do you think in the NFL presently could go back to college for a year and, and completely rebuild his stock and make himself a sought after player?
Mike Ryan
This is a fantastic question. Wow. I'm gonna go. Justin Fields. Justin Fields could go back to college right now, run a college offense, rebuild his stock and try and convince everybody that he is better than he was drafted the first time.
Billy Gill
Do you think that he would like if he went back to college? You think he would die if they allowed that? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Mike Ryan
Yes. I mean, listen, he's, he's still, I mean as much as I don't want him to be the quarterback of my team and he is, he's still a grown man playing in a college sport like. Yeah, still, he still has five years of NFL experience to bring to a college game. But yeah, that's, that's my answer.
Billy Gill
Justin Fields, do you have one? Mike Fuentes?
Mike Fuentes
I do actually. I just thought about him right now.
Mike Ryan
And my pick, Is it another former jets quarterback?
Mike Fuentes
No, he's. I think he's a former NFL player at this point because I think he's out of the OH form. He was on the. He last played in 2024 with the Eagles. But I'm going to say John Ross. You don't remember John Ross? John Ross ran a 4 2, 2 at the combine. It was the fastest in history. And I believe just based on the speed he can go back and just, you know, let's be real, he's on a lineup against a bunch of future accountants and he's just going to burn them and he's going to, you know, get a million yards and touchdowns and he's been on NFL way programs and I think he would just ball out one more year of college.
Billy Gill
So you think if he went to college after retiring from the NFL he would then convince people in the NFL that he was someone that they should go after in the first round?
Mike Fuentes
I didn't say he retired, he just said he was, he was on a team last year. He's not officially retired.
Billy Gill
Well, okay, so he'd go out there. Hold on a second.
Mike Fuentes
He would burn a bunch of college level quarterbacks, score a bunch of touchdowns and then they'd be like, ah, why not a former first round pick, 2017?
Mike Ryan
I don't know. I don't know. Kids are getting faster. I don't know if you've seen the combine.
Mike Fuentes
He ran a four.
Mike Ryan
Kids are getting faster.
Mike Fuentes
He's the fastest ever. The fastest ever.
Mike Ryan
Well, Xavier ever would disagree. Xavier Worthy might disagree.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah, Xavier Worthy's in the NFL.
Billy Gill
He's playing right now, so I have one. But I feel like it's not the spirit of the, of the game entirely.
Mike Ryan
You made the game, so it is the spirit of the game.
Billy Gill
It's not because it's just like this guy's good and better than we thought he was and it's not fun. So I apologize. So I think friend of the show, Trey Hendrickson, if he went back to college, would absolutely dominate and be a first round pick. Where he was taken, I believe in the third round.
Mike Ryan
In that vein, how about Brock Purdy? Brock Purdy going back to college.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Mike Ryan
Now all of a sudden, maybe he's drafted first overall.
Billy Gill
Where would we put Brock Purdy if he went back to college? What conference would he be in when.
Mike Fuentes
You put him back in the Big 12? Right. That's where he came from.
Billy Gill
Well, you could place him anywhere. You could go anywhere. I don't see him in the sec.
Mike Ryan
Maybe.
Mike Fuentes
Okay, so in this hypothetical, he's still Brock Purdy. So people know that he's coming back from the 49ers. Correct.
Billy Gill
That's a great question.
Mike Fuentes
Because if that's the case, there's definitely an SEC team that's going to drop an nil bag for him to go play.
Billy Gill
Yeah, no, but I don't want, I don't want him in the sec. I feel like he's not SEC breed.
Mike Ryan
I think he could have been a Saban Alabama quarterback. I think he could be that, that random.
Mike Fuentes
An AJ, LSU. AJ McCarron is what you think he is.
Mike Ryan
Yeah, yeah, like AJ McCarron.
Billy Gill
I was thinking honestly, more like McElroy. I was thinking more like a Nebraska. You know, like you have them at Nebraska and you're like, oh my God, that quarterback out of Nebraska. I mean, I guess in this scenario, you know, he's Brock Purdy.
Mike Ryan
Right.
Billy Gill
But he's like the, wow. That quarterback out of Nebraska, that quarterback out of Wisconsin, Brock Purdy. He might be the steal of the draft.
Mike Ryan
Where.
Billy Gill
If it's Alabama and it's Nick Saban coaching, you're like, Brock Purdy. How much is it him and how much is it Saban's system in Alabama?
Mike Ryan
Are we not sending him out west? We can't see him at USC guy. Like I could see him at Oregon.
Mike Fuentes
No. A cow Golden Bear. A cow Golden Bear.
Mike Ryan
Golden Bear shirt.
Billy Gill
How about Oregon State? State.
Mike Ryan
Yeah. But I don't think he's going to get drafted number one overall. Even if he is Brock Purdy. And we know what he is.
Mike Fuentes
The problem, the problem with him going to Nebraska.
Mike Ryan
Texas.
Mike Fuentes
No, Texas N. Sec team, sec.
Billy Gill
Too much pressure. Yeah.
Mike Fuentes
But the problem with him going to Nebraska is we all know there must always be a Martinez at quarterback in Nebraska.
Billy Gill
Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, that's why I threw Wisconsin in there as an option. But west coast makes sense for him, I think. I think West Coast. Yeah. All right, well, that was a fun exercise if one does you have a headline?
Mike Fuentes
Oh, yes, my headline. Give me one moment to pull it up here. It's a very, very stunning headline from sources that Jets Alan Lazard will take a Pay cut to 2.25. Sorry, a 2.25 million dollar base salary to stay with the New York Jets. Very sad for the Alan Lazard free agent market.
Billy Gill
Well, is it, is it that there's no market or he's such a great team player? Because I would say it's because there's no market.
Mike Ryan
He specifically requested a trade and they were like, yeah, okay, go find one. And then here we are weeks later and not only is he staying with the team, but he's like, listen, you can pay me less. Oh, that's, that's what we call overplaying your hand. Yeah, you overplayed your hand. You went out, you thought, oh, everybody's gonna want me, especially wherever Rogers.
Billy Gill
Well, that's, that's the thing, right. I feel it's. Right now it's kind of if you're the jets, right, and you really want to mess with both him and Aaron Rodgers, you wait for Aaron Rodgers to sign and they're like, you know that minimum salary? You wanted that base salary. Here you go. Dare you to sign it. And then you, you, you either get Alan Lazard for cheap, right. But you also keep him away from Tom Brady who he's hoping would have ended up on a team by now and he was just going to follow him around.
Mike Ryan
You just call Aaron Rogers Tom Brady.
Billy Gill
Did I call him Tom Brady?
Mike Ryan
Yeah, you did call him Tom Brady.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Yeah. It's been a week.
Mike Fuentes
So apparently, yeah, apparently Alan Lazard was going to be a casualty, a cap casualty of the jets, as he was slated to make $11 million in base salary this coming up year. It was non guaranteed.
Billy Gill
Oh, wow.
Mike Fuentes
So they basically said, hey buddy, listen, either you're doing that contract or you're out of here. He then reduced it to 2.25 million and he gets 1.75 million guarantee.
Billy Gill
Wow. Do you think he spins it? He's like, you know what? I was talking to Coach Glenn. I'm in on this team and. And I want to do what's best. I want to give you guys some money to go out and make the team better.
Mike Fuentes
No.
Billy Gill
And, yeah.
Mike Fuentes
And he's probably like, my wife loves it here. The kids are in school. I don't want to move them again.
Billy Gill
Yeah, it's not right. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
I mean, the jets win one. They win one here.
Billy Gill
Do they?
Mike Ryan
Sure, sure. They. They. Here's a guy who thought he was gonna go out, and the only reason that he was having trouble was because he was a Jet, and that's happened to a lot of people. But now everybody's like, no, you're just. You're just not good. He's like, okay, I'll. I'll take a pay cut. I'll stay here.
Billy Gill
Yeah. All right. Well, now I'm thinking of more people that could go back to college that could really dominate after you. I didn't like my Trey Hendrickson. I felt like. I felt like that was cheating a little bit, you know?
Mike Fuentes
What about Alan Lazard? Where could he go?
Billy Gill
Oh, Mac team.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah. Somewhere.
Mike Ryan
Yeah, he went lv.
Billy Gill
He could go to. Yeah, he could be like. Like a Lobo or something, you know, and he's just out there and, you know, third rounder, I think if he went back, you think he'd come out as a third rounder.
Mike Ryan
Now everybody's favorite third rounder, though.
Billy Gill
Really?
Mike Ryan
Yeah, that's what he'd be. He'd be the one that everybody goes, hey, watch out for this guy Lazard in the third round, you know.
Billy Gill
You know what I think he would be? He'd be the third rounder. That when your team is four picks away and I'm talking like your team, the jets, is four pick picks away, you're like, man, I hope Lazard falls to us. Like, we got it. We gotta trade. Trade up for Lazard. Trade up for Lazard or. Oh, God, I hope he falls for us and he's still on the board. Yeah, it's good spot for him. He should re enter the draft just to go back to the exact same.
Mike Fuentes
Team and you get him in the fourth round. You think, man, we got a bargain. Yeah, we got him. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
One mulligan in your first three years, you get to go back to college for one year and get redrafted.
Billy Gill
Wow. So it has. Has to be within your first three years. That changes everything. When we come back, we play a fan favorite from Last week, anonymous sources.
Dan LeBatard
Hey, folks, it's Mike Ryan. And if you're watching our show, you probably know your boy has undergone a little bit of a body transformation. Billy Gill
Guess what, guys?
Mike Ryan
What happened?
Billy Gill
In all the excitement of all the games we were playing, I forgot to give my. Here's a headline.
Mike Ryan
Well, we need a headline from you, Billy. It's. Yeah, it's your show here.
Billy Gill
It's the rules. And I'm sorry for not obeying the rules. I just kind of forgot. I assumed that I had. Had done it already and I didn't. And then I called Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and then everything was thrown off and we were sending Alan Lazard back to college and figuring out where he'd be drafted. So here's a headline. Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is ready to, quote, grow and build in year three.
Mike Ryan
There's a lot of directions to take.
Billy Gill
Is year three the year that Bryce Young grows and builds with the Panthers?
Mike Ryan
Yes and no.
Billy Gill
He didn't look bad once he got his job back after losing his job because Andy Dalton, I believe, got in a car accident.
Mike Ryan
We're also going to have to point out that one of the biggest knocks on Bryce, Bryce Young, is that he was a smaller. A smaller diminutive fella.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
For the quarterback position. So the fact that he's talking about growing and building is kind of ironic in and of itself.
Billy Gill
Well, but I'm gonna wait, you know.
Mike Ryan
Sure. But I'll take it the direction he intended. And I do think. I do think I've seen enough of him at the end of last year to think he could take a big leap. Now the problem is I don't know who's catching the ball over there. It's. It's Xavier Leggette, who is everybody's favorite mind included player in the NFL to hear speak, and the ageless Adam Thielen. But like, you got to get that guy somebody to, to, to, to throw the ball to. So he's got to get him a whoopi. Somebody that no matter what, I'm just going to give it to him. And they don't have that. It's hard to. It's hard to take that leap without that security blanket.
Billy Gill
What's a woobie? I don't think I've ever heard that.
Mike Ryan
No, it's a security blanket.
Billy Gill
Really? Did you name it your will be or is that a known thing that people call it?
Mike Ryan
That's kind of a thing. Yeah. Really?
Billy Gill
A would be. Okay. I don't think I had a woobie. I had a stuffed animal, like a stuffed bear that I would take everywhere.
Mike Ryan
Yeah, that's your wooby.
Billy Gill
My wooby. Okay. Did you have a blanket, a bear, stuffed animal?
Mike Ryan
I did, I had, I had a. I had a blanket. Do you still have, I think was a towel.
Billy Gill
Really?
Mike Ryan
Yeah.
Billy Gill
You still. Do you still have it somewhere thrown away at some point?
Mike Ryan
It's. It's somewhere. It's. It's somewhere.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
It's. It's in, it's, it's in the premises.
Billy Gill
It's in that closet behind you.
Mike Ryan
Yeah, well, it's the one over there. But yeah, it's there.
Billy Gill
All right. How often do you, do you whip out the woobie?
Mike Ryan
Every time I have to go. Because I never go in that closet. You know, it's one of those like. But like when you have to like get your passports out, you know, every. Like you have to go in that closet and then. I can't go in that closet without going down memory lane.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
And then the will be makes an appearance.
Billy Gill
What else is. Is down memory lane for you?
Mike Ryan
Oh, there's things like articles and yearbooks and wow.
Billy Gill
Ticket stubs and you know, back when you were happy.
Mike Ryan
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
I was married with kids.
Billy Gill
Yeah. If, if, if Bryce Young, now that we. Now that we're in. In the year three of the game, if Bryce Young went back to college, I mean, he was, he was the number one pick.
Mike Ryan
Yeah. I mean he's so.
Billy Gill
He can't, he can't get better than number one. But do you think there'd still be a feeding Frenzy for him. If Bryce Young. Okay, how about this? Bryce Young, Cam Ward. Titans could pick one of the two. Who do you think they take?
Mike Fuentes
Cam Ward?
Mike Ryan
Yeah, I think they take Cam Ward.
Mike Fuentes
Just because of his body size.
Mike Ryan
Knowing what they know now. But I think if you were to put Cam Ward in that draft, I think they, I, I think they take Bryce Young.
Mike Fuentes
In Bryce Young's draft.
Mike Ryan
Yes.
Mike Fuentes
With CJ Stroud.
Billy Gill
Okay, how about this? Next year, Cam Ward and Bryce Young are in the draft.
Mike Ryan
Is, Is Arch. Is Arch coming out?
Billy Gill
Arch is in this scenario. Arch is coming out.
Mike Ryan
No other Manning came out early.
Billy Gill
He will be.
Mike Ryan
Yeah. He know, by the way.
Mike Fuentes
He knows what's up with the money.
Mike Ryan
Speaking of all this, our friends over at the Athletic, they, they did a lot of research. They crunched the numbers.
Billy Gill
Oh, I love crunching.
Mike Ryan
And they, they came up with this. Out of the last 25 years, 15 times the quarterback who was taken first in that draft wasn't the best quarterback in the draft. So only 10 times in the last 25 years was the quarterback taken first. The best quarterback from that draft.
Billy Gill
Who were the quarterbacks that were, that.
Mike Ryan
That were taken first and were the best?
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray, Jamus Winston Carson Palmer, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Sam Bradford, Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan. Those are the 10 that were considered the best. Now, they used a lot of different metrics to.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Who was in the Jamis draft?
Mike Ryan
Marcus Mariota was number two.
Mike Fuentes
I know that.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
Now there, there are times where so like Jamarcus Russell was taken first, but they have Trent Edwards listed as the best quarterback in that draft. In other words, hopefully your team did not draft a quarterback in 2007.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Interesting. So we're not saying that Zach Wilson was the best quarterback in the Trevor Lawrence draft? Yes.
Mike Ryan
No, we're not.
Billy Gill
Yet. Yeah, there's still, there's still time. Also, Justin Fields is in that draft. We thought that he might be the number one pick. Mac Jones, too. That was a, that was a big draft for current quarterbacks. I mean, I guess it was only 2017, so they wouldn't all be out of the league by now.
Mike Ryan
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Anyways, was it. I mean, it's. We've joked about this and I saw that Trevor Lawrence is now on a quote unquote pitch count so that he can get ready for this coming season. It seems like every year we're saying it's a make or break year for Trevor Lawrence. They've signed him to the extension. He's their guy. They're not Going to get out of that contract after this year. But is this the year that Trevor Lawrence makes that step? Is. How about this? Is this the year that Trevor Lawrence, in the words of Bryce Young, grows and builds?
Mike Ryan
No, I think this is what he is.
Billy Gill
Really.
Mike Ryan
I think he's, I think he's a very high floor and very low ceiling guy.
Billy Gill
Is he good enough?
Mike Ryan
Yeah, I think he's good enough. I, I, and I, I, I, I say this as a Jet fan, so please don't get mad at me, Jacksonville Jaguars fans. He's good enough for Jacksonville.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
That's just what he is.
Billy Gill
Who is Justin Fields good enough for you?
Mike Ryan
No.
Billy Gill
Oh, who's good enough for you? Who's the, who's like the quarterback that is like, yeah, this is, this is the quarterback that jets deserve.
Mike Ryan
Last year's version of Aaron Rodgers. That's really, that's, it's just perfect. It's all headline and no substance.
Billy Gill
Were you ready for another year that like, would you have signed up for another year?
Mike Ryan
I, I was hoping for it, yeah. I mean, considering other options. But by the way, side note, on that list that the Athletic came up with made me, made me think so in 2018, the first quarterback taken was Baker Mayfield. And they have a tie for who the best quarterback is.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson. And I don't know who's better.
Billy Gill
I mean one is a two time mvp, the other one's a one time mvp. Sure, but, but, and, and you know, some thought Lamar should win his third MVP and then Josh wouldn't have had any MVPs. That's a good question. That's it. That's 2018 draft, huh?
Mike Ryan
That's a good 18 draft.
Billy Gill
Good little draft there. Yeah, I know.
Mike Ryan
Sam Darnold.
Billy Gill
Did they, you guys, I'm gonna go through here.
Mike Fuentes
You guys want the list of other quarterbacks drafted in 2015 with Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota? I looked them up.
Billy Gill
Yeah, sure.
Mike Fuentes
Okay. In the third round you had Garrett Grayson.
Billy Gill
Oh, okay.
Mike Fuentes
Remember that name, stud? Yep. Then you had Sean Manion. Sean Manion of, yeah, of. Manion of Los Angeles Rams. Well, St. Louis Rams, I think at the time, backup quarterback status. Then a Jets legend, Bryce Petty.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Mike Fuentes
Also in that draft. And Brett Hundley. And then to round it up in the seventh round, probably the best of the bunch, Trevor Simeon.
Billy Gill
Trevor Simeon.
Mike Ryan
So James Winston is the best of the bunch?
Mike Fuentes
Not by a mile. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
So no, it's close.
Mike Fuentes
Trevor Simeon has an argument.
Mike Ryan
Does he though, like. Yeah. I mean he kicked around a Few years in Minnesota, you know, Denver, Chicago.
Mike Fuentes
But out of all these quarterbacks, the only starting caliber 1 quotation marks is Jameis. Right. I guess Mariota had a. Had a season there, right, with the Falcons.
Billy Gill
I kind of want to redraft the 2018 draft.
Mike Fuentes
Oh, my God, that was 10 years ago. 2015.
Billy Gill
I mean, it was seven.
Mike Fuentes
No, no, I'm talking about 2015.
Billy Gill
Yeah, yeah. I mean the 2018 draft. Okay, so it was Baker, then Saquon, then Sam Darnold, then Denzel Ward, Bradley Chubb, Quinn Nelson, Josh Allen, Roquan Smith. So the first eight picks, right? First eight picks, all Pro Bowlers. So so far, everyone has hit on. On the draft. Well, I mean, Sam Darnold, so.
Mike Ryan
But they hit. They just didn't hit there.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Yeah, okay.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah, somebody hit. This wasn't them.
Billy Gill
Michael Lynching, Josh Cleveland didn't hit.
Mike Ryan
I mean, they did, but just not with Cleveland. Baker.
Billy Gill
Yeah, I mean, they. We don't need to redo this so many times, but man, they messed up Baker so badly, he. He should have sat out that year that he played hurt. That ended up getting him sent away from the Browns. I wonder, what if. What if Baker was still on the Browns and they didn't have this whole desean Watson situation? Anyway, you want to play anonymous sources?
Mike Ryan
Sure. You want to. You want to save it or do you want to. You want to get one or two out there? You know what I want to bring up? As long as we're talking about the draft, let me talk about. Let me, Let me bring up one thing. I want to propose a rule change, all right. For the NFL when it comes to the draft.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
And I think the first overall pick should be up for a bid so all the teams can bid on it.
Billy Gill
All 32.
Mike Ryan
All 32 teams. And here's the catch to it. The money that you bid goes to the player. All against the cap over a four year deal.
Billy Gill
So I have a lot of questions. Not a ton. Okay, so when you're figuring out the draft order every year, then the worst team gets the number two pick. We start at number two.
Mike Ryan
Well, unless they bid for the.
Billy Gill
Well, no, you could. No, the number one pick is up for grabs. So. So you have 33 picks in the first round.
Mike Ryan
No, 32. You just move up your spot.
Billy Gill
I don't like that. I like the idea of.
Mike Ryan
It's.
Billy Gill
Everyone still has their pick. It's an extra pick.
Mike Ryan
Okay.
Billy Gill
And the number two pick could be the first two picks if they really, really wanted.
Mike Ryan
They want to spend the money.
Billy Gill
So you can have a year where the number one and the number two pick both go to the same team and they really fast track rebuilding their franchise.
Mike Ryan
Now, I'll. I'll make this even bigger for you, okay? This becomes a live auction event. Televised, televised live auction event. We'll call it. We'll call it the day before.
Billy Gill
No, let's do a day of. So Draft day is coming and you have no idea where the number one pick is. And you only hear little whispers about who it is that made who's gonna bid. There's no cap. There's no cap. Right. You can go as high as you.
Mike Ryan
Want, but it all goes to the player against the cat. And it's all on the cap.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah. That's how you have to. Yeah. If you don't do that, Jerry. Jerry Jones just buys everything. Like.
Billy Gill
But does this go against guaranteed money? So, like.
Mike Ryan
Yes, yes, it's on your cap.
Billy Gill
So this is like a signing bonus. This is like a signing bonus.
Mike Ryan
If you don't have the cap space, you can't do it. Now, you could get into some. Some Tom foolery, some gamesmanship. And. Now suppose I know that my. The team in my division wants a quarterback, but I have all this cap space. Maybe I bid them up. Maybe I just keep raising the bid with no intention of winning it.
Billy Gill
I love this idea.
Mike Ryan
We can have fun with this.
Billy Gill
I really, really love.
Mike Ryan
It's a televised event, all 32 owners, and they have their little paddles. Get a celebrity auctioneer.
Billy Gill
I think that you. I think right before the first team goes on the clock, you have like a five minute auction or you just open auction.
Mike Ryan
Yeah.
Billy Gill
And. Oh, gosh, I really kind of like this idea, man. This is a good idea, Mikey.
Mike Ryan
This is a good. It was a good idea. This is. This is a Billy idea.
Billy Gill
Well, hold on. Would you. Would you do it? Night of the draft, I feel like what ends up happening is that then you, like, you. You move it up like the NBA ping pong balls. You know what I mean? It becomes its own thing. And then it becomes eligible for NFL super bowl that we're going to be ranking later on today, which is the draft auction. Draft auction. Draft. Oh, this draft auction sounds like such a good idea. Why aren't you running the NFL, Mikey?
Mike Ryan
I. I keep applying. They keep. They keep rejecting me. I've been getting a lot of that lately, though.
Billy Gill
Stick with it, though. Eventually one of those will go through. You know what I mean?
Mike Ryan
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Maybe Golic gets on a committee now, you know, Seems to Have some spare time on his hands, joins a committee and then he can appoint you to like something and then you work your way up. You just need a foot in the, in the door at the NFL. You know, that's what I'm an ideas guy.
Mike Ryan
As long as I get there, I'll, I'll make it work. You'll figure you should do some anonymous sources.
Billy Gill
All right, when we come back, we play our new favorite game, Anonymous Sources.

God bless football is presented by Smirnoff. We do game days. Please drink responsibly. The Smirnoff Company New York, NY I am going to come clean. I lied to you two segments ago. I didn't intend to lie to you. Yes, I lied to you and I told you that anonymous sources was coming up last segment and we didn't get to anonymous sources sources. I also told you the segment before that we were going to do Here's a headline and then I forgot to do my Here's a headline. So we're having a great episode so far but last segment I told you that anonymous sources was coming up this segment and that is in fact the truth. Because right now we're going to play a brand new edition of Anonymous sources presented by Smirnoff, the world's number one vodka. Please drink responsibly. Mikey, take it away.
Mike Ryan
Well, for those of you who listened last week, you remember anonymous sources is I read just that, a quote from an anonymous source about a team in the NFL. Last year we limited it to only AFC teams. This week we're going to do all NFC teams. Okay, so these are all quotes from an anonymous source about a certain NFC team. And you guys are going to tell me you guys are going to guess which NFC team they're talking about.
Billy Gill
And you can get along at home as well if you want to. And if you want, you can follow our feed. God bless football. And if you're playing along live, just tweet your guesses at us, hashtag anonymous sources. And then we'll know right away if you were right or wrong. Because we're doing live at the same time, together, all of us. Whenever you're listening to it, we're doing it. You know we're doing it.
Mike Ryan
That's exactly when it's happening.
Billy Gill
I like to think some people will say, you're prerecorded, you're taped. This isn't live. And you know what I say? No, this is a live show. To you, the listener who is listening right now.
Mike Ryan
Exactly what he said.
Billy Gill
Yep, Right now. First, I'm live right now. You're live. We're in the moment anyway.
Mike Ryan
We're in the moment.
Billy Gill
Anonymous. Well, isn't. It doesn't go like this. You give an anonymous source, and then we have to guess which one it is.
Mike Ryan
Sure.
Billy Gill
Okay, cool. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
All right, here's, here's, here's the first quote.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
Quote. They are putting a lot of trust in their ability to draft. They are keeping the true difference makers and letting go of those they feel were overpaid now or resting on their laurels.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Mike Ryan
Which NFC team is this anonymous executive referring to when he says, quote, they are putting a lot of trust in their ability to draft. They are keeping the true difference makers and letting go of those who they feel are overpaid or resting on their laurels.
Billy Gill
49Ers.
Mike Fuentes
O. I'm gonna say Los Angeles Rams.
Mike Ryan
Billy Gil is the best at this game because he got so many right last week. And he's already won for one today. The San Francisco 49, baby.
Billy Gill
That's why they call me Mr. Football. No one calls me that.
Mike Ryan
I. I do sometimes.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
Sometimes at night.
Billy Gill
Oh, am I there or just.
Mike Ryan
No, just.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
You Know when I'm talking to my woobie, I said, you know, Billy Gill, that Mr. Football.
Billy Gill
Yeah, me and Mr. Football had a great recording today. If only two guys showed up.
Mike Ryan
Anyway, he's on assignment. All right. Whoa. I like what they have done. They have gotten better. I do not know how much we will see it in their record, though. If they win eight games, is that progress? Which NFC team are they referring to when they say that one more like what they have done. They've gotten better. I do not know how much we'll see it in their record. If they win eight games, is that progress?
Billy Gill
Bears.
Mike Fuentes
I will also say the Chicago Bears.
Mike Ryan
You both are correct. It is the Chicago Bears. I don't believe how well you're. I. Do you have it? Billy? Do you have.
Billy Gill
No, I don't.
Mike Ryan
You have all my sources. Well, my anonymous sources.
Billy Gill
I. It has to be someone obviously that had less than eight wins. So it was a team that wasn't that good. And the options. The options then become the Giants. The Giants better.
Mike Fuentes
I mean, first.
Billy Gill
At first, the Giants may be, I guess because of quarterbacking, but didn't feel like a Giants thing.
Mike Fuentes
When he first said it, I thought the Giants and I go, have they really gotten that much better with Russell? And then.
Billy Gill
And then I was like, five game jump is a lot.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah, that's a ton. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
All right, next one. Quote There would be a lot about them that scares me, but it's not the players. I'll be curious with role players if there is a drop off because you have to have a vision for on how to deploy those guys. Quote There would be a lot about them that scares me, but it's not the players. I'll be curious with role players if there's a drop off because you have to have a vision for how to deploy these guys.
Mike Fuentes
You have to have a vision for how to deploy these guys. The role players.
Mike Ryan
There's a big hint in there.
Mike Fuentes
Give it to me one more time, Mike.
Billy Gill
It's not gonna help.
Mike Ryan
There would be. There would be a lot about them that scares me, but it's not the players. I'll be curious with role players if there's a drop off because you have to have a vision for how to deploy these guys.
Billy Gill
I have a question. Are we doing the same rules as last time? We're not repeating.
Mike Ryan
Yes.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
No repeats. We'll save repeats for. For the players. One, because little, little, little spoiler. We're going to probably play this at the draft.
Billy Gill
Really good ones.
Mike Fuentes
I'm going to Say the min.
Billy Gill
The draft in Nashville.
Mike Ryan
The draft in Nashville. Come join us.
Mike Fuentes
I'm going to say the Minnesota Vikings.
Billy Gill
I'm. I'm somewhat stumped. I think it's not the players, role players, how you deploy them.
Mike Ryan
Why would there be a drop off?
Billy Gill
I. I mean, it could be. It could be the Vikings. It could also be the Seahawks if you get rid of your quarterback.
Mike Ryan
Or maybe your coordinators.
Billy Gill
Well, I was thinking it could be the coordinators.
Mike Fuentes
It could be the coordinators gave it away. Yeah.
Billy Gill
Could be the coordinators in Detroit. Or it could be. There's a new head coach that's trying.
Mike Fuentes
To figure out, can I change my answer event?
Mike Ryan
No.
Mike Fuentes
No. Okay.
Billy Gill
I'll go with the Lions.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah. Well, you know, Billy got it. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
Billy got it.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Damn, I'm on fire.
Mike Fuentes
No.
Mike Ryan
I love that you cursed to make me pay for it.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Fuentes
Oh, sorry.
Billy Gill
There was. There was also. There was also cursing in the background behind you. Fuentes in the last.
Mike Fuentes
I know I had. I had to yell at M. Because he was very emotional or something.
Mike Ryan
I know.
Mike Fuentes
That's.
Billy Gill
I heard Mike Malley, of all people.
Mike Fuentes
He's back there. Hey, buddy. Hey, Mike. Mike.
Dan LeBatard
Wave.
Billy Gill
Wait till they come out.
Mike Ryan
There we go.
Billy Gill
Hi, Mike. Good job.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Anyway.
Mike Ryan
All right. Ready for the next one?
Billy Gill
Yeah. I'm a fire right now.
Mike Ryan
They are going for it. One executive said their coach is like, let's go. I do respect that. It's a boldness that is not afraid to fail. Kind of like how Howie Roseman in Philly pouncing on Saquon Barkley. They are going for it. Their coach is like, let's go. I do respect that. It's a boldness that is not afraid to fail. Kind of like how Harry Roseman in Philly pouncing on Saquon Barkley.
Billy Gill
I'm gonna say Rams.
Mike Fuentes
I love how this guy likes the coach saying, let's go.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah.
Billy Gill
I'm thinking a coach that would say, let's go. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
Actually, Sean McVeigh is a let's go.
Billy Gill
That's why I said. Yeah.
Mike Fuentes
So I'll to say the right.
Billy Gill
I. I didn't give this one much thought.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
But it's not him.
Mike Fuentes
No, it's not me.
Billy Gill
Oh, well, I'm not locked in yet.
Mike Ryan
Yes, you are.
Billy Gill
I didn't say final answer.
Mike Fuentes
Double or nothing. So it's not the Rams. We both had the Rams. So we'll guess again. Their coach is like, let's go. One more time, Mike.
Mike Ryan
They are going for it. Coach is like, let's Go. I do respect that. It's a boldness that is not afraid to fail. Kind of like how Howie Roseman in Philly pouncing on Saquan Barkley.
Billy Gill
So did we sign an older player?
Mike Ryan
Their coach is like, there's a hint.
Billy Gill
All right. For those commanders, I was gonna explain it.
Mike Ryan
For those who were just listening, I turned my hat backwards.
Billy Gill
And yes, the commanders, I didn't get to guess again.
Mike Ryan
The commander, I didn't get to guess again. You got it wrong. We know it.
Billy Gill
No, I'm not gonna give myself credit for that one. Dan Quinn.
Mike Fuentes
Quinn's a let's go guy. Yeah.
Mike Ryan
Oh, Dan Quinn's a big let's go.
Billy Gill
I don't think so.
Mike Fuentes
Me neither.
Mike Ryan
Quinn's a big let's go.
Mike Fuentes
I feel like I was misled there.
Billy Gill
Can I tell you something? Not a fan of the whole let's go thing. I don't like people that just say, let's go at the end of everything.
Mike Fuentes
Weird trend with the kids.
Billy Gill
Yeah, weird. Yeah. Anyway.
Mike Ryan
All right, let's go. All right. Quote is a long one.
Billy Gill
Oh, no quote.
Mike Ryan
There is a big push by the owners to stop firing people and eating all the dead money with coaches. Some owners are paying credence to that. If you have the most stable ownership, you come out and say, I believe in these guys. It's been a weird set of circumstances, but they are the right people. There is no way you can run a franchise going from a bad year to a playoff mandate.
Mike Fuentes
All right, so this is a team that has a long standing coach, obviously. So.
Mike Ryan
There is a big push by the owners to stop firing people and eating all the dead money with coaches. Some owners are paying credence to that if they have the most stable ownership. You come out and say, I believe in these guys. It's been a weird set of circumstances, but they are the right people. There is no way you can run a franchise going from a bad year to a playoffs mandate.
Mike Fuentes
Okay, so it was a team that was bad coachman around, huh? Nfc.
Billy Gill
Well, I don't know if we're interpreting this the right way, because it could be a team like the Panthers that fires people every single year.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah, I don't know. Mikey's eyes perked up when he said that.
Billy Gill
So I'm gonna go Panthers. Yeah.
Mike Fuentes
I'm gonna go Saints.
Mike Ryan
You guys were more right the other way.
Billy Gill
I'm gonna go with the Cowboys.
Mike Fuentes
No, they just got a new coach. We're right the other way. What the hell does that mean?
Billy Gill
With the last question, someone that's been there.
Mike Ryan
Someone that's been there. If you have. If you have a more stable ownership, the owner can come out and say, quote, I believe in these guys. It's been a weird set of circumstances, but they are the right people.
Mike Fuentes
Weird set of circumstances. No.
Mike Ryan
There is no way you can run a franchise going from a bad year to a playoffs as a mandate.
Mike Fuentes
The Giants. Yeah. Dable's been around a while. I'm saying Giants.
Billy Gill
Yeah, sure.
Mike Ryan
You got it.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Mike Ryan
That's the New York Giants.
Billy Gill
I'll give you a point, Fuentes.
Mike Fuentes
Thank you.
Mike Ryan
You get a point there, Fuentes.
Billy Gill
Just to make things interesting, because my, my Lions one was not great. Let's do one more. Let's do one more.
Mike Ryan
One more. Okay. Quote they got a little better, but they are still working from a deficit. They were a three year reset from last year, so this is just year two for them.
Mike Fuentes
This sounds like the Giants again.
Mike Ryan
It's not.
Billy Gill
It's not.
Mike Fuentes
Okay.
Mike Ryan
They got a little better, but they're still working from a deficit. There were a three year reset from last year, so this is just year two for them.
Mike Fuentes
I'm gonna say the Arizona Cardinals.
Billy Gill
I was thinking Falcons maybe, but they got Kirk Cousins and that wouldn't have been a three year rebuild.
Mike Ryan
They got a little better, especially at the end of last year. A little better, but they were working from a deficit. They were in a three year reset. You know, year three, Big year.
Billy Gill
Big year for the year. This year.
Mike Ryan
Year three is, is. Is when you'd grow and built. They were a three year reset from last year, so this is just year two for them. It got a little better.
Mike Fuentes
Yeah. Panthers.
Mike Ryan
I was, I was spoon feeding it to you guys. I gave all the Bryce Young quotes in there.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Mike Ryan
Yes. It was the Daddy V turned around.
Mike Fuentes
And he was telling me, small guy got bigger.
Billy Gill
I'm like, hey, you're cheating.
Mike Ryan
He's.
Billy Gill
Danny B.
Mike Ryan
Gets a point. Danny B. Gets a point.
Billy Gill
Wait, you guys are cheating.
Mike Fuentes
No, no. I don't know what you're talking about.
Billy Gill
Yeah, one more, One more, one more.
Mike Fuentes
Sure, fine.
Billy Gill
One more.
Mike Ryan
I got. I got two more if you want two more. I got two left.
Billy Gill
All right, let's do one quick and then see if we can sneak the other one in. Heads explodes.
Mike Ryan
Quote. It's like the 2015 Colts all over again. Signing older guys who have been hurt, who are on their third or fourth contracts. You cannot build a team with old players, especially old players who have been cut because they were hurt. It's like the 2015 Colts all over again signing older guys who have been hurt who are on their third or fourth contracts. You can't build a team with old players, especially old players who have been cut because they were hurt.
Mike Fuentes
The New York Giants.
Billy Gill
No, we already did the Giants.
Mike Ryan
We already did them. We don't repeat.
Mike Fuentes
Oh, I thought we just.
Billy Gill
Is it the Saints?
Mike Fuentes
Hold on. Give me one. Give me a second. Guys that are hurt all the time.
Billy Gill
This is the part where I start overthinking and I'm gonna say Falcons.
Mike Fuentes
I'm gonna say Falcons.
Mike Ryan
Neither is correct. Playoff team from last year.
Billy Gill
Playoff team. I meant the Rams. I meant.
Mike Fuentes
There he did the Rams.
Mike Ryan
No, we didn't.
Billy Gill
No, we didn't. I didn't mean the Rams, though. I meant the. I meant the commanders. No, we did the command this time.
Mike Fuentes
I mean the Rams, though. Not the Rams.
Billy Gill
No, it's not. He told us. It's not. I meant the Seahawks.
Mike Ryan
And Seahawks were definitely not a playoff.
Billy Gill
But I meant the Buccaneers.
Mike Fuentes
I met the Buccaneers.
Billy Gill
It was the thing.
Mike Ryan
No, think. Think further north.
Mike Fuentes
Further north. Packers.
Billy Gill
I meant. I meant the. Yeah, that's what I meant.
Mike Fuentes
Green Bay. I love Green Bay this time of year.
Mike Ryan
No, I think.
Billy Gill
Think I meant the West. The Vikings, maybe.
Mike Ryan
That would be. That's exactly where you should be.
Billy Gill
That's what I meant.
Mike Ryan
Minnesota Vikings.
Billy Gill
That's what I thought. Yeah. All right, one more. One more. We can't end on that horrible note.
Mike Ryan
Yeah, that was pretty bad. Well, considering what that quote was. Take a listen to this one quote. They are a well run team. Blue. But what they want to do and what their fans want them to do are two different things. Right now, they are more serious about staying relevant and keeping that brand up high than they are about winning. They are buying low on former highly drafted picks. But how often do those guys really pan out?
Mike Fuentes
It sounds like the Dallas Cowboys.
Billy Gill
I'm going to say the Rams just have a different answer than you.
Mike Ryan
It is the Dallas Cowboys. Way to go, Danny B. Wow, Danny, you did it.
Billy Gill
Good job, Danny. All right, when we come back, we have our top five Super Bowls. Don't go anywhere if you're a pet parent like me. You know about Chewy. We just played another great edition of Anonymous Switch sources. As usual, I started out hot. Completely fell apart at the end. My Fuentes was cheating. Danny B. Was giving him the answers. Mike Malley was cursing in the background. Things have gone well so far this episode, but we don't want to end it and leave you hanging before we give you our top five Super Bowls and you again can tweet at us. Your top five Super Bowls. Hashtag top five Super Bowls @ us. Hashtag God bless football. Follow us on our feedback. Mikey, do you have your top five Super Bowls?
Mike Ryan
I do. I'll run through them, and then you can run through yours.
Billy Gill
Well, no, no, you don't have. You don't have to take your time.
Mike Fuentes
Because I didn't do mine.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. All right. That's what I was just checking to see if everybody had them, not. Not to just start going. And as we do with our top fives, you start at five, not number one. Don't tell us what your number one super bowl is right away.
Mike Ryan
All right, fair.
Billy Gill
All right. Do you want me to go first? Do you want to go first?
Mike Ryan
You go first with your number five number fives.
Billy Gill
Oh, okay. We'll do fives across the board. All right. My number five super bowl is free agency. Yeah, free agency. My number five Super Bowl, Mikey. Your number five Super Bowl.
Mike Ryan
My number five super bowl is Thanksgiving. Very rarely do we get good matchups, and I'm always guilted for watching it.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Mike Ryan
By certain members of. Of my family.
Mike Fuentes
Faster.
Billy Gill
Let's go faster, Fuentes. Your top five super bowl don't have it keep going.
Mike Fuentes
It's up to you.
Billy Gill
Okay. My number four, Thanksgiving. Yeah. Yeah. It's my number four because I get excited about it. I like the idea of it, but I also get taken away from the games. Oftentimes by the time we get to the late game, I'm kind of tired. I don't really pay attention. So my number five super bowl is Thanksgiving or my number four Super Bowl.
Mike Fuentes
Too much. Gotta be faster. Gotta be faster. Let's go.
Billy Gill
We're good.
Mike Ryan
My number four super bowl is the Super Bowl. Very rarely lives up to the hype.
Billy Gill
Really. My number three super bowl is the NFL draft. Your number three Super Bowl Free agency.
Mike Ryan
It's exciting. It's exciting for a while.
Billy Gill
Okay. My number two super bowl is opening night.
Mike Ryan
I agree with you. Number two, opening night. Opening opening night.
Billy Gill
See, Fuentes was worried about us. And now we still have 4/40 to each give our number one.
Mike Fuentes
Really went for a long time on Thanksgiving. I was, like, worried about it.
Billy Gill
Don't. I'm a professional. I'm looking at the clock here. I wouldn't waste time for no reason. Just filling in time with unnecessary words. I get right to the chase. Boom, boom, boom.
