You are listening to the Dan Levatar show in partnership with the DraftKings sports app now live in all 50 states. Have you ever heard of a couple where they. They get divorced or they're not together anymore and then they get back together and the man, he. He. He takes a victory lap of I told you so. I told you she would come back to me. Have you ever heard of that before?
Jonathan Sasslow
No.
Dan Levitart
Well, that's what happened with Ric Flair over the weekend. Ric Flair, who some call the greatest professional wrestler of all time. If you believe that or not, he's absolutely in the conversation for sure. And maybe the most famous pro wrestler, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Those are probably the top two most famous of all time. And Ric Flair, he. He essentially cut a promo on his ex wife, who he has now just gotten back together with over the weekend. Now, let me also add, when Ric Flair tweets, this is really odd. When Ric Flair tweets, does he do
Jonathan Sasslow
it in all caps?
Dan Levitart
No, no. Every first letter of every word is capital. Oh, that's hard. That seems like a pain in the ass. How does he do that?
Jonathan Sasslow
That's like, when people are trying to do this sarcastic. They do one cap, one small one cap.
Dan Levitart
Yeah, but you do that too.
Jonathan Sasslow
I've done it and it's like, this is incredibly hard, but there are people who do it all. And I've done it, like, just to prove a point, but I was like, oh, my God, this is. There's got to be a setting.
Co-host
We finally have a font that suggests something is sarcastic. It needs to be a setting on the phone, right? Give me the sarcasm font.
Dan Levitart
Ric Flair, in every tweet he posts, capitalizes the first letter of every single word.
Jonathan Sasslow
There's got to be a setting, right? There has to be.
Dan Levitart
Like, I've never heard of the setting.
Jonathan Sasslow
Flare vision.
Dan Levitart
But Ric Flair, he tweeted out over the weekend and it's a picture of him. And, and, and, you know, I guess
Jonathan Sasslow
his ex wife, Mrs.
Dan Levitart
Flair, he's now back together with. And it says here, I told you it was only a matter of time until you came running back. At least I know I'm in good hands because you have always taken the best care of me out of anyone in the whole world. She finally figured out there is only one Ric Flair, only one James Bond. And currently Ric Flair is available for any kind of action. Let's see if Wendy still has it. Lfg.
Jonathan Sasslow
What's that stand for?
Dan Levitart
So he tells you at the start there, I told you it was only a matter of time until you came running back. Now I just, I just wonder, I would like to know how long into the, into the, The.
Jonathan Sasslow
The.
Dan Levitart
The relationship being renewed, did he then go and send that tweet? How long do you think it took? I guess it. Within minutes. Do they consummate once again? It's like, all right, we're definitely back. So now you know. Let me tweet. Did he have it saved in the drafts? I wonder how long it took for him to do this.
Jonathan Sasslow
It took him a while because he had to do capital letter on each word.
Dan Levitart
I was thinking for a second, there's got to be something, like some system you put in, like a sentence and it gives you back like. But no, there's one word in here that's all caps. That. That. That makes you think he's doing this.
Jonathan Sasslow
Everybody doing it manually.
Dan Levitart
That's wild.
Co-host
The time honored tradition of Ric Flair going viral for something and then walking it back.
Dan Levitart
Oh, did he walk it back?
Hunter Pence
Already did.
Dan Levitart
Oh, really?
Co-host
Yeah. I don't think that was like, super popular with Wendy.
Dan Levitart
Yeah, probably.
Jonathan Sasslow
Really?
Dan Levitart
Probably.
Oh, here it is. Okay. He did walk. This is just a couple of hours ago.
Jonathan Sasslow
All right.
Dan Levitart
What do you mean to read this to you too?
Jonathan Sasslow
Yes, please.
Dan Levitart
I'm reading this for the first time. Then it's once again a very nice picture of him and Wendy. He says here, wendy and I are not renewing a relationship. We are renewing a 34 year friendship. She has her own residence and I have mine. She is coming to Tampa primarily to take care of her parents, who are both in their 80s and not in good health. Wendy will continue to do what she does best, travel the world and help people who are struggling in other countries. I'll resume what I do best and love most, which is attending public events and signing autographs and meet and greets. Please don't turn something positive into something negative. How can anyone do that? If that's all you have to do, find something better to do. The one part I am sure of which she reminds me whenever we speak is that she will always be there for me if I get sick again, and I was sick for two years, all caps. Her whole family will take care of me. Find someone else to hate on. Wendy and I are good boy.
Jonathan Sasslow
How could.
Dan Levitart
How could anyone have thought from the first tweet yesterday that he was implying something different?
Jonathan Sasslow
I got to tell you right now, doesn't sound like they're back together.
Co-host
No.
Dan Levitart
Sounds like they still might be enjoying their company.
Co-host
It sounds like he was told to put that tweet out.
Dan Levitart
He's a crazy person.
Co-host
It's been Nature boy has been on one.
Dan Levitart
This a lunatic.
Jonathan Sasslow
This. Like I thought when you guys said walk it back, he had to walk back. The whole I told you so part, like, hey, let's not make it seem. But it sounds like he walked back. The whole we're back together again thing.
Co-host
Yeah, she's just coming to town to take care.
Dan Levitart
I read that as like, there's no official title on it, but she's coming back to town and we might hang out every once in a while.
Jonathan Sasslow
I read that. As I just said, I'm coming back down. I didn't say I'm coming back to you. I take care of my parents. Oh, yeah, yeah. We're friends.
Dan Levitart
How could anyone have think he was implying something different when he wrote she finally figured out there's only one Ric Flair and and one James Bond. And Ric Flair is available for any kind of action. He is a lunatic. Let's get to Weekend Observations. It is time for. I mean, to share his game notes. No one in the media will tell
Jonathan Sasslow
you what happened better than my boy. I mean, Weekend Observations is brought to you by Miller Lite Legendary moments. Start with the light.
Dan Levitart
Zaz.
Jonathan Sasslow
Hard Knocks is on tv. Oh, hall of Fame game is in the books. And Daniel Dopp is on my TV screen. You know what that means?
Co-host
No.
Jonathan Sasslow
Fantasy season is back.
Dan Levitart
Nice.
Jonathan Sasslow
What a Hall of Fame induction. By the way, shout out to Adam Vinatieri's speech. He roasted Peyton Manning's forehead and made a Bill Belichick Jordan Hudson cheerleading competition reference. You know what that means? Well, PTFO guest spot incoming, right? It's only a matter of time before he's on there. WNBA experiencing rating success and unprecedented popularity at the expense of non stop attention from all the wrong people. Reminds me of when Lil Nas X had the biggest song in the world. That show up everywhere dressed in a ridiculous glittery cowboy outfit. I believe the literary inclined among us called that a fact. Gaustian bargain, right? You want me, you want to be popular, you want to be successful. I do, I do. I'll do anything.
Guest Caller
You'll do anything.
Jonathan Sasslow
Wear this all the time. Everywhere you go. Meet and greets, going to school, you got to wear like this glittery cowboy hat. Monte Ellis saying that if you swapped him out for Steph Curry, the Warriors experience the same kind of success. That is the truest insight into the mindset of an NBA player. It would shock so many people. How many NBA players like, man, if I play with that, they let me. They really believe it. Reminds me when Paul Pierce said, man, if I played with Shaq and LeBron, I'd have more titles than Dwyane Wade. And everyone's like, how could you say that? I'm like, he's the NBA player. They all believe it. Raiders head coach Clint Kubiak holding Kirk Cousins and Max Crosby out of practice as a punishment for fighting would be like if we gave Dan the week off for having bad tone. Oh, wait. Kayla McBride 10 made threes versus the Dallas Wings Dallas Wings. Maybe like after the fifth three, you stop helping off of her. I watched. I'm like, what are we doing, Mike?
Dan Levitart
Did you watch?
Co-host
I did not.
Jonathan Sasslow
Oh, how dare you. Coward.
Co-host
No, coward.
Jonathan Sasslow
No, not coward.
Co-host
The opposite.
Guest Caller
Triumphant hero.
Jonathan Sasslow
Yeah.
Co-host
Courageous.
Jonathan Sasslow
Courageous. That's the C word I was looking for. Having acid reflux is like having a guy walk down a hallway holding a vat filled to the brim with the acid from who Framed Roger Rabbit. In my case, the acid is a Miller Light bottle. And then there's some who does that tap thing on the top to make it start overflowing.
Co-host
Classic gag.
Jonathan Sasslow
Dude, I was acid refluxing like nobody's business last night.
Dan Levitart
What does acid reflux feel like?
Jonathan Sasslow
It feels like fire is coming. Coming out of you.
Dan Levitart
Like you're like burping up your own, like deal.
Jonathan Sasslow
No, like I could feel the acid creep up. Like it wasn't just gas. It was.
Dan Levitart
It's just during the day.
Jonathan Sasslow
Happens at all times. It happens a lot at night because you're laying down. When you're standing up, it kind of like drains, I guess, back to your stomach when you're laying down. It's such a slosh out causes it
Co-host
sometimes.
Guest Caller
Drinking tbd to be determined.
Jonathan Sasslow
Who knows? Who really knows?
Co-host
Who knows?
Guest Caller
Some maybe.
Jonathan Sasslow
Yeah.
Co-host
He's not here to take a quiz.
Jonathan Sasslow
Royce White. Enos Cancer are attention seeking jackasses. Haynes King is a winner. Teddy Bridgewater is retired. I didn't know he was unretired. Wasn't he coaching high school?
Guest Caller
Yeah. Here, Miami.
Jonathan Sasslow
He was in the league while he was coaching.
Dan Levitart
He got in trouble coaching his high school team for like buying his kids Ubers.
And now actually the state passed the Bridgewater act where you're allowed to do that kind of stuff.
Jonathan Sasslow
So how is he retiring?
Dan Levitart
Cuz he was in the NFL the last couple years.
Jonathan Sasslow
So he went back.
Guest Caller
Yeah.
Jonathan Sasslow
And now he's okay. All right. I'll take your word for it.
Co-host
Got to retire as number like 59. He wore an insane number in Detroit.
Jonathan Sasslow
Some Auto. Auto. Not Auto Porter. Was Auto Graham. Some Auto Graham Action. Auto Porter, Autos. All the autos. My favorite Hard Knocks Inside is learning that even Sam Darnold can't believe he won a Super bowl. Also. Sam Darnold, big LeBron guy. That's oh. From Hard Knocks. He's in on The Sixers and LeBron.
Hunter Pence
Oh, okay.
Jonathan Sasslow
Yeah. Dug up my intel report on Royce White. The one that I wrote literally when I was working for the Suns and I was scouting him. Intel report. If you don't know is when you like. It's not like the likes to go left or whatever. It's like the dirt. The first line Royce is an. It's very prescient is the name Devontae. The NFL version of Jalen might be right. 21 players in NFL history have been named Devonta. Some spelled D E, some spelled da. The very first one to debut was Devontae Adams in 2014. He was 21, meaning he was born in December of 93, the same month Jodeci's Diary of a Mad Band was released. Ladies and gentlemen, Devontae Swing is the originator of the name devontae and all the Devontes afterward. Crazy because I don't can't think of another Devontae before that. Shaq on LeBron's stint as a Laker. The good thing for LeBron, he did win one. But you know, Kareem got six, Magic got five, Kobe got five, I got four, Rambus got three. So you know, he's at the party, but he's not on the stage. End quote. To recap, Kareem has six. One of them was in Milwaukee. But okay, Magic has five, Kobe has five, I got four. One of them was in Miami. Rambus got three.
Dan Levitart
Yeah. Why is he saying the ones you got elsewhere? Otherwise, why didn't you just say LeBron got four?
Jonathan Sasslow
Why is he saying the name Rambus? Why is Rambus at the party? Why is Rambus on the stage? Shaq is channeling his Bob Hoskins from the movie Heart condition cinephobe, episode 145. Do you know about the heart condition?
Dan Levitart
Nah.
Jonathan Sasslow
Bob Hoskins is a racist cop. Denzel is a lawyer who works primarily with women. Of the night Denzel dies, Bob Hoskins has a heart attack. He needs a heart transplant. They use the heart of the race of the black lawyer that he hates.
Dan Levitart
By the way, that sounds like a good movie.
Jonathan Sasslow
It's a funny movie, man. Denzel comedies. Let me tell you something. Denzel might have wasted his career.
Guest Caller
Really?
Dan Levitart
What other Denzel comedies are there?
Jonathan Sasslow
There's one called Carbon Copy where he learns that his father is a rich white man and the rich white man learns that his son, his illegitimate son, is Denzel Washington.
Dan Levitart
That sounds like a good movie, too.
Jonathan Sasslow
It is funny. It is also of another time. So there's a lot of humor in there that no viewer discretion is advised. But speaking of Cinevo also, we did that one as well. Speaking of Cinevo, episode 320 Blood Fist 8 Hard Way out no Way A movie where an ex CIA operative turned high school math teacher is hunted down by assassins. I tell you who's in it, but I guarantee you've never heard of any of these people.
Dan Levitart
You want to try me?
Jonathan Sasslow
Don the Dragon Johnson.
Dan Levitart
Don't know him. Wilson.
Guest Caller
Wilson.
Jonathan Sasslow
Wilson, Wilson.
Dan Levitart
I don't know. I Fool.
Jonathan Sasslow
WWE wrestler Scott Steiner's kid got suspended for six games by the Saints for alleged ped use. Wrestler son on the Juice. Color me shocked.
Dan Levitart
That wrestler's son on the Juice.
Jonathan Sasslow
Like father, like son. RIP Don Nelson, one of the great innovators of the game of basketball. You invented positionless basketball. And the point forward. Also one of the great sliding door moments of my career. Because what if Nelly doesn't change his mind and allows the Steph Curry trade to happen? You know about that? When I went for the Suns, we traded for Steph Curry.
Dan Levitart
Yeah, I'm sure.
Jonathan Sasslow
On draft day.
Dan Levitart
I'm trying to remember the details, but I think I know. Yeah.
Jonathan Sasslow
And then they changed their mind. Nelly changed his mind is the official quote we got. Could have been me. Dug up my intel report on Enes. Kanter had the line, he's a space cadet when it comes to basketball. Simple IQ and attention to detail. Translation, he's dumb as hell. Sometimes, you know, with these intel reports, they say things to you because, like, I can't come out and say it, but I'm gonna say it in a certain way. So I'll give you an example of that. If you were good and I said, what do you guys think about Jonathan Zaslow? They say, oh, my God, he's the best. You'd be a fool not to hire him. Da, da, da. If you're awful, what do you think about Jonathan Zaslow? He's all right. They always say, he's all right. That means, like, he's awful. But I can't say he's awful because this might come back to bite me in the ass.
Dan Levitart
I saw this one quote from an anonymous GM over the weekend about Enos Cantor, which said, he's dumb. He's really, really dumb.
Jonathan Sasslow
Space cadet. When it comes to IQ and attention to detail, that's the quote I got. Dumb as hell. Speaking of hell, Argentina, those are the weekend observations. Oh, look at him cry.
Co-host
He had a tough week.
Dan Levitart
Okay, I saw.
Jonathan Sasslow
You going to do that to me. You're going to do the thing that we did to Z. You're going to do it to me now?
Co-host
Yeah, it's a tough week.
Jonathan Sasslow
World building.
Co-host
Tony, you know that moment at a party or at a tailgate where everything just sort of clicks.
Guest Caller
I know it. Well, it's usually when I show up, everybody goes crazy.
Co-host
Yeah, you usually take all the credit for it, but it's because Tony usually walks in with Cuervo.
Dan Levitart
Walk in like this.
Co-host
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cuervo is a thing that turns hanging out into this is the night.
Guest Caller
It has that effect on people.
Co-host
It does. You usually take the credit for it. But again, it's the Cuervo effect. It's like that moment in a big game where everyone in the crowd just starts standing up, hooting and hollering.
Dan Levitart
Keep it Cuervo.
Guest Caller
Keep it Cuervo, baby. I just bought a new house. Which means I'm officially learning how many things a house needs. After you've already spent all of your money buying the house. Jonathan Sasslow
Down Levitar if Daniel Day Lewis did it, you'd be jerking off all over yourself.
Co-host
Oh, come on. Yeah, I would be aggressive.
Guest Caller
Description.
Jonathan Sasslow
I mean, what is it? What is that? I'm just saying. Saying what?
Co-host
That's me. Daniel Day something. I see that photo of Daniel Day Lewis looking like Lincoln before he's about to start filming. Lincoln. And you know what I do Amin Mike Ryan. I jerk off all over myself. That's what I do.
Hunter Pence
Lincoln, who you outed the other day.
Co-host
Don't make this a rejoin.
Dan Levitart
This is the Dan Levatar show. I saw a movie last night. I told you, I've been sick in bed. I've been laid up. The last couple still had to go
to the movie last night, though.
Jonathan Sasslow
Sunday night you went to the movie.
Dan Levitart
This is an odd choice. I'm not like even judging. I've been sitting sick for two days. I got work tomorrow. I'm going. I'm going to still hit that movie tonight though.
Hunter Pence
Yeah.
Dan Levitart
What else am I going to do about stare at the ceiling? Why wouldn't I watch a movie?
Go to a lot of movies.
Guest Caller
Chris, he was in bed. You know that, right? You weren't listening.
Co-host
You weren't to say, you're going to be good.
Dan Levitart
Oh, my bad. I thought you said I went to the movie.
Hunter Pence
No, we were trying.
Dan Levitart
Always goes to the movie.
Co-host
No, you were. You were. We were. No trying to. But you were.
Jonathan Sasslow
They sell pickles at his movie theater.
Dan Levitart
Much more acceptable when you're sick watching a movie in bed. I'll allow it.
Jonathan Sasslow
You thought.
Dan Levitart
You thought I'm sick over the weekend. On Sunday night, I'm going to go to the movie.
So you see now why I thought it was nowhere.
Co-host
It was clear that he in. We were trying to stop. Tuesday is going to be good.
Jonathan Sasslow
Wednesday it'll be amazing.
Co-host
Yes, but then after bowling drop back off.
Jonathan Sasslow
What movie you see?
Dan Levitart
I watched a Netflix movie.
Jonathan Sasslow
Already out.
Dan Levitart
Yeah, you. You never watched a good Netflix movie.
Jonathan Sasslow
Don't look up great Netflix movie.
Dan Levitart
They're good.
Jonathan Sasslow
But also had a theatrical release, right?
Co-host
What about H?
Jonathan Sasslow
No.
Co-host
What? That movie was good.
Guest Caller
No, it was fun. I mean, come on.
Co-host
Come on.
Guest Caller
It was fun.
Co-host
That movie was fun.
Dan Levitart
I watched. I watched a new Netflix movie last night called War Machine, so. With Alan Ritchson, you know, he's Reacher.
Guest Caller
What do you say?
Dan Levitart
Yeah. Well, you want me to recite the whole movie? What he say? He said a lot of things. Is a big part. Yeah, it's called War Machine. He's essentially reacher, like in a war. Like he's just being reached.
Guest Caller
So just a movie of Reacher.
Dan Levitart
Yeah. Yeah. It was really good, though. I'm not gonna spoil it for you,
Guest Caller
but he's just got, like, one speed.
Dan Levitart
He's just reacher.
Co-host
Yeah.
Jonathan Sasslow
Trust me, buddy. Oh, no. He was in play date. Comedic term.
Guest Caller
Was he? Reacher and pearly date.
Jonathan Sasslow
No, he was.
Co-host
He was Extraction. Good Netflix movie.
Dan Levitart
Extraction is good. With Hemsworth, right?
Co-host
Extraction two.
Dan Levitart
Yeah.
Co-host
The second one, his last name is Rake and he kills a guy with a rake.
Dan Levitart
Yeah, that is a good movie.
Jonathan Sasslow
The last good Netflix movie I saw, I think, was Red Notice. And that one wasn't supposed to be a Netflix movie. It's supposed to be a wide release, but the pandemic happened.
Dan Levitart
I'll tell you what is a good Netflix movie. Bird box. Saw. Bird box.
Jonathan Sasslow
I hate bird box. What, with Sandra Bullock? Yeah.
Dan Levitart
There's not multiple bird boxes.
Jonathan Sasslow
I don't know. Maybe there's another bird box out there.
Dan Levitart
You didn't like bird box?
Jonathan Sasslow
No, it's dumb, man.
Dan Levitart
I like.
Jonathan Sasslow
It's a quiet place.
Dan Levitart
Harshaw Ali is also in it.
Jonathan Sasslow
I know. Look, they pay money. They pay really good money to these guys. They're not doing it because of the artistic integrity. They're doing it because they're paid a lot of money.
Dan Levitart
You don't know good movies.
Co-host
They do baseball great, too. And we're gonna have Hunter 100 pence on, and we're gonna be touting that.
Dan Levitart
I like Netflix movies.
Jonathan Sasslow
I like Netflix TV shows. I like Netflix sporting broadcasts. Netflix movies leave a lot to be desired. Unless they greenlight my movie, in which case I love Netflix movies.
Dan Levitart
Well, I saw yesterday, this War Machine with Alan Richardson. 66% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's worth watching.
Jonathan Sasslow
That's not worthwhile.
Dan Levitart
Yeah, if you just want to chill while you're sick in bed and watch a cool war movie.
Jonathan Sasslow
You know what I do when I want to chill? I watch old movies. I watch Casino yesterday on my flight.
Dan Levitart
Really?
Jonathan Sasslow
Oh, my God. Forgot how great that movie was. Sharon Stone. Underrated.
Dan Levitart
It's a great movie. But at the beginning of the movie, when they show, you know, Sam getting blown up in the car, and then. And then they. And then you see, like, the dummy right before, like, come on, you got better editing. You got a better.
Jonathan Sasslow
What about Pretty Woman? You know about that? Pretty Woman?
Dan Levitart
I've never seen it.
It's entirely.
Jonathan Sasslow
You've never seen Pretty Woman?
Dan Levitart
I've seen it in bits and pieces.
Jonathan Sasslow
Rewatched Pretty Woman over the weekend.
Dan Levitart
I don't want to. I'm good.
Jonathan Sasslow
No, good. Great movie.
Dan Levitart
I'm good.
Jonathan Sasslow
Great movie. Julia Roberts. Underrated.
Dan Levitart
Let's welcome back Hunter Pence to the show. Four time all star, two time World Series champion analyst, obviously NBC Sports Bay area. And he is on the call for Netflix's Field of Dreams game, which is this Thursday. I mean, at 7:30pm Eastern time.
Jonathan Sasslow
Hunter, you know about that Pretty Woman.
Hunter Pence
Oh yeah, that's a great movie.
Dan Levitart
See, really, when's on.
Hunter Pence
I mean, the 90s movies. The last time I saw a Pretty Woman, it has been a long time. I actually saw that. That was like one of the like risque or movies I watched as a kid. And yeah, I mean, I remember just like really enjoying it. Obviously. Julia Roberts, Slippery little suckers.
Dan Levitart
There you go. Did you ever have. Okay, so one, one more risque movies that you saw in the 90s. Do you have an experience where you watched one of those movies with your parents? You're a kid, teenager maybe, and like, it was embarrassing.
Hunter Pence
Not exact. Oh, yeah. I guess there's like multiple times. Anytime they're kissing, you know, there's always some random comic. Because I grew up, we had one tv, you know, so whatever, you know, dad decided to watch is what we all watched. And yeah, that was definitely one of the ones that was probably more embarrassing, but it was also awesome. You know, it's a, it's a good movie.
Dan Levitart
I've told you. I mean, right when, when I saw Silence of the Lambs for the very first time, late 90s saw sounds of the Lambs for the very first time was watching my parents and the scene where Buffalo Bill shows the mangina. That was, that was bad. Watching my parents. That was, that was, that was, that was bad. That was very embarrassing for me. 7:30pm EAs this Thursday, Field of Dreams game. Hunter, when's the last time you saw Field of Dreams?
Hunter Pence
Oh, I've watched it twice recently just to kind of rehab and, and recap and be ready for this. And honestly, like brought me back to memories as a child and I think watching it as an adult because I only remember it through, through that kid's lens, which is why I might need to see A Pretty Woman again. But it, it really kind of Stands up and. And I see it in a beautiful way, the magic of baseball. So I kind of got teary eyed and. And you know, with, with James Earl Jones and. And his quotes of, you know, when they're having that, that big moment of, do you sell the farm, Ray, or do you keep the. Do you keep the farm? And he's like, they're gonna come, Ray. It's gonna be like they're dipped in magic waters. Baseball is what reminds us of what is good and still could be. It was just like, I don't know, I got chills. But it definitely made me emotional. Reminded me of kind of my childhood and how, you know, baseball is about your family, it's about your dad, it's about the love of the heroes.
Dan Levitart
I was going to say, like, are. Do you still cry when, you know he's having a catch with his dad? Because to me, Field of Dreams, it's the ultimate movie where, you know, the scene is coming and I'm still going to cry.
Jonathan Sasslow
Jumanji.
Hunter Pence
For me, Jumanji gets you. Yeah, that's a great memory.
Jonathan Sasslow
Actually at the end when, when like he finally. Game resets.
Dan Levitart
The rocker Robin.
Jonathan Sasslow
No, no, the original. The original Jumanji, when everything resets and. And his dad, who had left for the party and they had a big argument, right? But then he comes back because he forgot a scarf or something. But the kid has lived a whole lifetime and is like so sad and like appreciative and the father just like, I just walked out. What happened? Yeah. And like, man, I'm starting to get emotional right now.
Dan Levitart
Do you think, like Hunter, do you think, dude, do the younger players today, have they even seen Field of Dreams, do you think?
Hunter Pence
I don't think so. Maybe some of them. I think it's probably, you know, like, probably 25, 75 would be my guess. The older players definitely still have, but I think it's less than there than it used to be because it was like, when I was growing up, it was a must see. We watched it almost on every road trip and. But I definitely did, to answer your question, I got emotional just when Shoeless Joe, like, when the lights turned on him and like. And he's just there and like, you know, the fact that he's following his heart and listening to this, you know, just the feelings of baseball. But yeah, Jumanji, I could see that as well also. What is it? A League of Their Own? Always. It got me when I was a kid. It still gets me today.
Dan Levitart
Do you have a favorite baseball movie?
Hunter Pence
You know, it was. Used to be. Oh my gosh, obviously the sandlot's up there. The Natural was my favorite as a kid, probably. Oh, man, the Bull Durham was. Was probably my favorite as I grew up. Just because it's so spot on to what my minor leagues was like. It just, it does a really, really good job. But Field of Dreams, now watching again, I can see why. It's just like, it's written so well. The message is really beautiful and it just kind of. It brings back the magic and the wonder of baseball for me who's, you know, covering it, played it, you know, always seeking to get better at it, but also remembering just how magical the game is. Besides just like trying to, you know, be the best or get the most out of everything.
Jonathan Sasslow
Hunter. You ever seen the Scout with.
Dan Levitart
That's a good movie.
Jonathan Sasslow
I love that movie. I love that movie. Yeah, go ahead.
Hunter Pence
Is that, is that the one where he. I've seen several of these. Does he get like a guy. He's like a crazy guy that. You gotta remind me of this guy. I definitely think I've seen this one
Co-host
where he's a scout.
Hunter Pence
Yeah, yeah, he's a scout. Does he get a guy from like a random place and the guy's kind of crazy and he has to like helicopter in or something?
Jonathan Sasslow
Fraser. Yeah, you've seen it? There you go.
Hunter Pence
Yeah, yeah, I love it.
Jonathan Sasslow
I love it because it's like, it's. He's a scout, but like a scout. That happens, like, but he does some crazy things.
Hunter Pence
These scouts do have to do some crazy things and deal with crazy people.
Jonathan Sasslow
If you piss people off, you get the scouting like trail that nobody wants. And that's what happened. Albert Brooks, he like, he pissed off George Steinbrenner, so he sends him to like the Guatemalan league to go scout over there. And I was like, that's happened to me. I've had to. I had to scout some terrible places in like, you know, like these small conference basketball schools and stuff. So I had a great affinity for the movie the Scout, I'll tell you.
Hunter Pence
See, don't hate on Guatemala, by the way. That's a fun place to go visit.
Jonathan Sasslow
Good baseball.
Hunter Pence
I mean, I don't know about their baseball, but they have good coffee. I went to some coffee farms out in Guatemala. Beautiful Lake Atitlan. It's a. It's a magnet. Very kind people. Yeah, I know it's not Guatemala.
Dan Levitart
I know it's not considered a great movie. I love Mr. Baseball with Tom Selleck, man. Every time it's on. I could totally, if it's like a sleazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon, I could totally stop on Mr. Baseball and watch. You ever see Mr. Baseball? Hunter?
Hunter Pence
I have seen Mr. Baseball just because I pretty much watched every baseball movie. Was not a huge fan of that one. I can't believe that none of y' all have mentioned anything because sandlot, I feel like, is the hottest topic here in baseball movies. It's like either the best baseball movie ever or. Or people don't give any credit because it's kids. Like where y' all stand on the sandlot. Are we not say I'm not fancy?
Dan Levitart
No, it's a great movie, but I love it. No, no, it's not overrated.
Co-host
So you're the ones making all that.
Hunter Pence
I respect that. I respect that. What's that?
Dan Levitart
This is, this is a great, this is a great new segment where we just ask Hunter Pence if he's seen X Movie. That's what this. Hunter, have you seen this? Have you seen. That's the whole segment that we're doing right here. You can also see Hunter Netflix's Field of Dreams on Thursday night, 7:30pm Eastern time.

Levitar. I've never stepped foot on that campus. If you told me right now your life depends on it. Go to Santa Fe University and just, just, just take a picture. Jonathan Sasslow. I would die. I don't know where it is. This is the Dan Levatar Show. Let's ask you some baseball questions here. Hunter starting off with the Dodgers. Is it, you know, they just had the long losing streak. I know they lost again last night after snapping the streak. Is it, is it that, like, how unusual do you think it is for a team that we know? Is that good? Is that talented? They just traded for school, of course. Like, is it, is it crazy for them to have had that kind of a skid?
Hunter Pence
I don't think so. I think it's been. What's been more crazy is how well they've done the last three years or the last 10 years. It's been extremely well run. I think baseball is very difficult. You look at the Mets, you look at The Giants and the payrolls that they have this year and it not coming together for them this season, the Dodgers, everyone's like, oh, they paid this money and they bought this win. No, they have done amazing things at a fundamental level. If you followed their last two playoff runs, really, really impressive stuff. And it is hard to win at the highest level over and over. I don't care how much talent you have, how many players you have, baseball is a very difficult game to just overpower and getting hot and the finickiness of baseball and the finesse of baseball and the precision of baseball, these are things that are going to happen now. The playoffs are going to be exciting to. You know, I think that the Dodgers are definitely going to get back on track and, you know, we'll see what happens in the playoffs if they run into some of these really crazy hot teams. But definitely not surprised at a couple of hiccups, more surprised at how consistent of dominance they've been able to accomplish. It's the likes of kind of the Yankees that I saw when I was growing up and what they were able to do. But even, you know, that run that they had, you know, the Jeter winning seven World Series, you know, slowly fade away towards the end of his career. Not really winning very many since. What is it, 2009.
Dan Levitart
Yeah.
Jonathan Sasslow
Yeah.
Dan Levitart
Hunter, when you were playing and you were on a team that was in the middle of either a big losing streak or maybe guys were in the middle of huge slumps, what were some of the crazy things that you would see dudes try and get out of the streak or out of the slump?
Hunter Pence
Yeah, there was definitely, for whatever reason, naked batting practice or, or, or thong batting practice or just something to make you laugh and, you know, in the clubhouse or riding the bike, something to loosen you up. Dancing in cowboy boots. We would, we would have a cleat dropping, you know, similar to Bull Durham. Just some, some wild, random things that would just loosen you up and get you laughing and, and sometimes you're just too serious and you're trying too hard and you get in your own way. But a lot of things just to bring people together. You know, you, you heard the story of the Red Sox. They were taking whiskey shots before they went out there to loosen up and, and to play free. It. It's a. Baseball is a game that makes you go crazy and, and sometimes you got to get, you know, match the craz back up, I guess.
Jonathan Sasslow
Hunter, you see the movie the Fan with Wesley Snipes.
Dan Levitart
I like that movie.
Hunter Pence
I believe I have I don't. I don't remember it that great, though. Was it. Was it Barry Bonds that he was like.
Jonathan Sasslow
He was essentially supposed to be Barry Bonds. And Robert De Niro is, like, a super fan, and he's going through a slump.
Hunter Pence
He's stalker.
Jonathan Sasslow
Yeah, he's come back to play for San Francisco, but he's going through a slump.
Dan Levitart
And the new hot player, Juan Primo,
Jonathan Sasslow
won't give up the number.
Dan Levitart
And so Roberto, played by Benio del Toro.
Jonathan Sasslow
Robert Da Says, I got to kill that guy so he can get to that.
Dan Levitart
That's a good fan.
Hunter Pence
Oh, man.
Dan Levitart
I mean, he loved Bobby Ra.
Hunter Pence
That's a hot take. That's a hot take. Whatever takes.
Dan Levitart
Hunter, you mentioned the Red Sox. The Red Sox were horrible the first part of the season, and now they're, like, the best team in baseball. How unusual is that? Like, you. You would have to think at some point, you're in the clubhouse, like, guys on the team, they must know we're not a very good team, and then all of a sudden, they're like, the best team. That's crazy, right?
Hunter Pence
Yes and no. But that's, like, kind of what makes baseball awesome is that, like, it's on such margins, and really, it is somewhat of a streaky game. You know, we talk about the Dodgers and how talented and extraordinary their group is. Getting cold. This happens to every good player. The best players in the world go through slumps like they have down years. It's extraordinarily rare to have, you know, like, the Albert Pujolses who just always have a crazy good year. And even Albert probably had to his standards the years that were less good than. And so you get these young teams, and all of a sudden something clicks or adjustments are made or a new prospect comes up and brings a bunch of enthusiasm up, and it goes in streaks. Like, hitting is contagious, is the thing you say. Winning is contagious. Things start to fall in place. You start to expect it. And it also goes the other way, where it snowballs and avalanches on you bad. But for the Red Sox, you know, they just. Their pitching's really, really gotten better. They just have found a way to win. It's been an incredible run because I definitely, you know, as a Giants broadcaster, looking at the two teams being like, man, it's crazy. Both these teams, I thought, were good coming into the season, and the Red Sox were able to dig themselves out of it. The Giants haven't been able to do that.
Guest Caller
Hunter, we've been having a debate here for the last couple of weeks and months of the baseball season. I have a scenario for you. I want to give you a player that I want you to tell me if he's a Hall of Famer or not. Okay. This guy plays for 10 years, does not miss a game, goes one for four every single game with a single. No RBIs, no home runs, no doubles,
Dan Levitart
no walking, no walks.
Guest Caller
He's 1 for 4 with a single every single day and night. 10 games, 10 seasons, doesn't miss a game. Does that guy make it to the hall of Fame?
Dan Levitart
So it's like a 10,000 plus game hit streak.
Jonathan Sasslow
How do you do math?
Guest Caller
Dude, like seven.
Dan Levitart
But he has zero slugging.
Co-host
Yes. When we first talked this one out, we're like, he just totally destroys the hit streak record.
Dan Levitart
Yeah.
Co-host
Puts it in a place wherever.
Guest Caller
59 games he beats it.
Co-host
And we don't know when the singles happen.
Guest Caller
Exactly.
Co-host
There's going to be really high drama for much of his.
Dan Levitart
Hunter, is that a Hall of Famer?
Hunter Pence
I mean, I will be honest. Like, hit streaks are my favorite thing. And today's the way that they're doing the hall of Fame. I would say that he's not just because they, like, don't want to let many people in unless there's crazy numbers. But I mean, that, that hit streak, in and of itself, I think, I think I'd put him in the hall of Fame. That's insane. To do it. Get a hit every single game, to play every game for 10 years. I put him in the hall of
Guest Caller
Fame and he goes, I don't think they would today. He only plays 10 seasons and he's done. He's like, I've done what I've accomplished.
Dan Levitart
Right.
Guest Caller
Like, I've 1700 games or whatever it is. I have that hit streak. I bet 250, nothing else.
Hunter Pence
And let me, let me put it to you this way. Do I think that he would help a team win? I don't think that would help a team win very much, but I do think it would be really cool to watch.
Dan Levitart
What is, what is the most, like, overrated feat in baseball? Because I've said for years, I think the cycle is so overrated. Obviously, it's cool to get a cycle. I mean, look, four hits.
Co-host
I love this.
Dan Levitart
Take four hits in a game is awesome. I love this. Obviously, getting the cycle is really good. But here's the part I object to. Hunter. If I've already hit a double, a triple, and a home run, I'm coming up to the plate. People want me to get a single so I can have the cycle. What? I want to hit another home run. Like, to me that's, that's where to me the cycle is so overrated.
Hunter Pence
I actually completely agree. It is cool. And, and like when it happens, it's always exciting and it's definitely more exciting if they need the triple. Yeah, like you still would rather the middle home run than a triple, but it just, it just is one of those things that is rare. It's cool. Four hits in a game. But I agree with you. I think it's definitely over overrated. I think hit streaks are underrated. And that's where like when you asked me that question about the 10 years that hit every game, I don't think this guy helps you win that much. But I do think that that's really, you know, a, a fun thing to follow like every day and they take forever. Like, you know, this is a hypothetical player to really do that is insane. Like even just like, we rarely see 20 game hit streaks these days.
Jonathan Sasslow
Hunter, you ever seen Brewster's Millions?
Hunter Pence
Best baseball movies ever.
Dan Levitart
Is it best baseball movie ever?
Jonathan Sasslow
It's a great movie. Wow.
Hunter Pence
All right, what's it about? I've never even heard of this.
Guest Caller
Oh, what a plot. Hunter, you're gonna love it.
Jonathan Sasslow
So Richard Pryor plays for like a minor league team and he finds out he has a rich uncle who dies and leaves him a bunch of money. And so he has two options. He can either take like a smaller amount of like a couple million dollars and just walk away with it, or if he can spend $30 million in 30 days, he inherits $100 million.
Guest Caller
But he can't, he can't have anything at the end of it.
Jonathan Sasslow
You can't own anything by the end of it, and you can't tell anybody what you're doing. And so he still plays for his team and he just pays for a bunch of stuff trying to spend the money. It's a good movie.
Hunter Pence
That actually is a really cool concept. Like, I got to see it now.
Jonathan Sasslow
You got to.
Dan Levitart
Hunter, before we let you go here and we'll see a Thursday night Netflix Field of Dreams Game 7, 30pm Eastern Time. Is there anything cool that you guys have prepared on the broadcast wise, being at that park there in Iowa? Do you have anything cool planned that you could actually share with us yet?
Hunter Pence
Well, as I was preparing for this, they really haven't given us a ton of knowledge of, you know, if anyone's going to be there of any of the uniforms, how, what they're going to be. Exactly. So we're just, you know, told that you're going to have to watch the show. There's probably going to be some cool things. And for this broadcast, they're wanting to keep it traditional, have the cadence of, you know what the Field of Dreams is, the cadence of the movie. And we're really lucky that, you know, it's Phillies and Twins. It's two teams that are both vying for the playoffs. They're. They're in that kind of wild card hunt. The Phillies trying to chase, you know, the Braves for the division as well. So it's going to be an exciting game. And, you know, Netflix always. It's been just so fun to be a part of their events, and they find a way to get better each time. And we're looking forward to. There's going to be some sizzle, but I haven't been privy to it.
Jonathan Sasslow
Hunter, you ever see the movie Ed? It's. It's a movie where Matt LeBlanc, you know, Joey from Friends, plays a minor league pitcher. That was a monkey. The team has a chimpanzee.
Hunter Pence
I was thinking of Mr. Ed the horse.
Jonathan Sasslow
No, it's a chimpanzee as a third baseman.
Hunter Pence
Yeah, I haven't seen that one. Man, you got, you. You got some. Some deep baseball movie knowledge.
Dan Levitart
What about Little Big League? Oh, that's a good one. That's okay.
Hunter Pence
Little Big League is a banger.
Dan Levitart
Hunter, excellent job. Have fun at the broadcast Thursday night.
Hunter Pence
Hey, thank you so much. Appreciate y' all having me on the show. And I gotta go. Go back to the drawing board on my baseball movie.
Jonathan Sasslow
There you go. Yeah, we gave you Angels in Alfield.
Hunter Pence
Yeah.
Dan Levitart
Now that one's awesome.
Hunter Pence
Oh, yeah, I've seen that one. That's a good one. Lock it in.
Dan Levitart
Thanks.
Hunter Pence
Y' all take care.
Dan Levitart
There you go. Roy, I was a little off on the games played.
Guest Caller
10,000 plus.
Dan Levitart
Yeah, it's really like 15.
Jonathan Sasslow
How are you doing?
Guest Caller
That's not even 1500.
Jonathan Sasslow
How are you doing math? You said 10,000.
Dan Levitart
I didn't bring my abacus with.
Jonathan Sasslow
It's a thousand.
Co-host
620. So one where he's a scout.
Dan Levitart
Do you think they invite, like, do they try to invite Kevin Costner to come? Like, did he. Did he throw the first pitch? The first ever one. He must have, right?
Jonathan Sasslow
So do they talk about. I can't remember. Feel the dreams that. Well, they talk about Shoeless Joe Jackson throwing the World Series at all in that, in that movie.
Co-host
I gotta rewatch it, cuz, like that's a print.
Jonathan Sasslow
You say Shoeless Joe Jackson, that's the first thing I think of.
Co-host
See the ghost of Shoeless Joe Jackson. Hey, that one time. Pablo wants to do an episode with you right now.
Jonathan Sasslow
Here's the deal.
Dan Levitart
What's the scout about?

High-energy, smart-aleck, irreverent, and filled with genuine warmth for baseball and old Hollywood movies. The show mixes deep sports expertise with pop culture riffs, balancing heartfelt reflections (especially from Hunter Pence) with punchy, offbeat humor and the occasional on-air squabble.
If you love baseball, grew up on ‘90s movies, or relish hearing former pro athletes get nostalgic about both, this episode is a must-listen. Hunter Pence brings emotional insight and quick wit; the rest of the panel keeps the pace brisk and the references delightfully random. At heart, it’s a freewheeling celebration of what’s weird, special, and enduring in both sports and pop culture.
