So that was interesting, right? Because you could hear those seeds being planted of what ultimately would become the ethos of Trump's run to the presidency. Which is, yeah, who cares if what I'm saying isn't true? As long as the people agree with me. Birtherism, who cares? There are plenty of people who are happy I'm asking the question. And that basically became what Trump's run to the presidency would ultimately become. And it's pretty wild to hear the seeds of that be planted on on the Dan lebaton Show with Stu Gotz. I'm laughing so I don't cry. That was 2013. Through the local hour in the Big Sui. What you're going to hear now is a longer full session of an interview from September of 2014. So September 18, 2014, if you want to look up what the NFL controversies were around that time, you pause this right now and go try to look that up. You'll hear what Trump has to say as he also discusses his friendship with Roger Goodell. All the credit he believes he deserves for the success of the usfl. Why he didn't like shaking hands because I kid you not, from Mr. Covid, vaccines don't need to exist. He didn't want to catch a cold. Also playing golf with Michael Jordan, the terrific guy, Bill Clinton. This one only gets stranger. So here's the follow up interview. September 2014. I would say Enjoy. But I don't know how I why did they make me do this? You know, guys, it feels pretty good when you accomplish something you've, you've dreamt of. For a long time, I've been feeling really, really lucky to not just make it to 30, but to be doing all of the things I ever wanted to do, including working here on the Dan LeBatard show with Stu Yachts. Starting your own business is a dream that lots of us share, but too many of us just let it remain a dream. Don't hold yourself back thinking, what if I don't have the skills? Jeremy, you know something about me, right? You know when I'm grilling outside and it's summertime? You know how I supplement my summertime?
Jeremy
Of course I do.
Stu Gotz
I make it Miller time. Of course. That beautiful white can. Oh, when it's so hot outside, I just, I just put it right to my forehead right there and I just roll it sometimes right on the forehead, cool my body down and then I crack it open. Instant relief. And then that first sip, brother does that first hit.
Jeremy
That is a top five sequence of events that you can possibly go through.
Stu Gotz
I'm just serenity now. When I just imagine that first sip.
Jeremy
Of Miller Light, just thinking about it, it's making me happy.

Hey friends, the summer's here. That means more sun. It means more light. It means more time to do all the things that make summer so special all around the country. They're perfect for any active lifestyle over summer and beyond. For me, guys, I use Factor as a meal supply for me literally all the time. Joined now by a return visitor, Donald Trump with us on ESPN Radio. Last time we talked to him, we thought he was going to buy the bills. He did not buy the bills. Why did you not buy the bills?
Dan LeBatard
Well, I love NFL. I love football. I put in a bid and I guess the NFL released it. It was a billion dollars, which was a nice high price, but somebody else paid a lot more money than that. You'll have to speak to them as to why and I said, I'll pass because, you know, a billion dollars, a lot of money. And, yeah, I think it's going to be very interesting. But after looking at everything, I decided not to up my bid. And so let's see what happens. It was very important to me that the Bills stay in Buffalo, and now they will. So that was a big portion of why I even bid in the first place.
Cuervo
Let's say Donald Trump was hypothetically the owner of the Bills. Everything going on in the NFL right now, you would be saying, and doing what when it comes to Roger Goodell?
Dan LeBatard
Well, look, I like Roger. Roger's a person that I like a lot. He's a friend of mine. And I think. And that's why I think probably the owners, even though, you know, we have a USFL question with me, and what a lot of people don't know about the USFL is that I came in long after the league had opened and the league was failing. And when I came in, I made the league hot, and I should get credit for that. But of course, then I took Lawrence Taylor and I sold him back to the Giants for a million dollars. I would say they weren't thrilled with that. You know, so lots of other things, but I would say Roger would have been very happy to have me. I would tell, say a couple of things, getting back onto the field. I would say, you got to stop with the flags. It's horrible what's going on. Every play is a flag. And half of the times they're looking and they very, you know, you watch.
Cuervo
That's not the controversy that he's in the middle of right now like that. He's got a bigger controversy on his head.
Dan LeBatard
No, no, no. I'm just saying I think the game is very important, and I think the flags and I also think tackles, I mean, people. Ray, Ray Nitschke and Dick Butkus and these guys wouldn't be allowed to play football nowadays. So it's a. It's. I think that's a real problem. I think that's going to be a big problem. All the flags and the good tackles. You know, what used to be a great tackle. Today you get suspended from football. That's the problem. The other stuff is certainly hurting them and potentially hurting their brand very badly. I mean, it's gotta stop.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump with us here on ESPN Radio. If you were the commissioner of the NFL, would Adrian Peterson, Greg Hardy, guys like that, would they be playing football right now? Donald?
Dan LeBatard
Well, you have to look at individual cases. I mean, as an example in the Rice case, you know, she was knocked out, she was unconscious, and there was pretty bad stuff took place in the elevator. And then I hope that Roger never saw, and I would certainly take his word for it, but, you know, you have to hope that Roger never saw the interior of the elevator and what took place, because he said he didn't. But. But that was not a very hard find. And he got a lot of. He actually admitted that himself and he, he apologized. As far as Peterson is concerned, great player. And, you know, it depends on exactly what happened. That's one you have to take a look at. I've heard a lot of people saying today. You have? Over the years, I've known people that are good parents, but they're spankers, they spank. And you know, 70% of people, they say, I saw a poll where 70%, I happen not to be a spanker. If Ivanka did something wrong. I was never a spanker. But there are spankers. But, you know, there's a tremendous group of people, and I don't mean beaters, I mean spankers. There's a vast difference. And you'd have to look in the Peterson case. You know, I met him, I was on a big television show and he was on the same show, and I met him about a month ago, and what a nice guy he was. He was great. Well, here's the thing that's so sad to see, but he's a big star and they're gonna have to see what happens.
Cuervo
Here's the thing about Adrian Peterson. Famously, he has a death grip of a handshake. Famously, you refuse to shake hands, correct?
Dan LeBatard
Well, I did shake his hand, and I really don't refuse to shake hands. But of course, everyone knows that I'm right because you catch colds, you catch flus, you catch all sorts of things by shaking hands. But if you're living in this society, you know, I happen to like to Japanese custom better, where you just sort of look at each other and you nod. But the fact is that I did shake his hand, and you're right, he's got a strong hand grip and that's fine. But he was really a nice guy. And of course he said he grew up and his parents were a little bit rough with him, et cetera, et cetera. So you have to really look at the circumstances and every one is different. No matter what happens. I mean, you're going to see other of these things and every one is different. Now, the Adrian Peterson one is going to be interesting because it really has to do with a lot of the mores of society. So we'll see what happens with that.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump with us on ESPN Radio. If you own Budweiser, if you owned Anheuser Busch, would you spend $1.2 billion on the NFL?
Dan LeBatard
Well, that's the one way that things could start to topple. Two ways. Ratings go down, ratings start getting hit. And that'll happen with the flags and with a lack of tackles and everything. That will happen because I have so many friends that are sick of it. They can't watch it anymore. So ratings getting hit and the sponsors leaving, those are your two things that you have to worry from the standpoint of the brand and the, you know, and keeping it going and making lots of money and, you know, we'll have to see what happens. I think that the sponsors are starting to drop out, but they're not dropping out big league. But if you have big league sponsorship dropping out, then you've got a problem in the NFL. There's no question about it.
Cuervo
Let's talk about some other things outside of sports here. Does Donald Trump have a tipping philosophy? How does Donald Trump tip?
Dan LeBatard
I'm a big tipper. I believe in tip. I usually get very nice treatment and everything else. I tend to tip ridiculously because I don't want to read any stories that Donald Trump was cheap. And, you know, I read so much where somebody leaves a tip of 2% and 5% and, you know, et cetera, et cetera. No, I like helping people out. I'm in a position where I can do what I want to do. And I like tipping big, especially if I like the waiter or the waitress. And I like tipping big.
Donald Trump
Give us the coolest person you've played golf with.
Dan LeBatard
I played golf with so many. I play golf with sort of. They're all cool in their own way. But I play with Michael Jordan. He's a great guy.
Cuervo
Oh, is there gambling? Gambling, gambling, gambling, Trump?
Dan LeBatard
No, not so much. I mean, and let me tell you, Michael's a good golfer. You know, a lot of people say, oh, he's overrated. He's over. Michael can play.
Cuervo
What were the stakes? Trump.
Dan LeBatard
He's a great chipper and he's a great putter.
Cuervo
Trump, stakes on the golf, gambling. I know Jordan. Jordan's not playing out there for free. If he's got Trump on the hook, what were the stakes?
Dan LeBatard
I like to gamble a little bit, but you gotta ask Michael about that.
Cuervo
No, I'm not.
Dan LeBatard
I don't have Michael.
Cuervo
If you want to call him and Conference him in. We'll ask him. But right now, I'm asking you, what were the stakes?
Dan LeBatard
He'll be happy when I say he was.
Cuervo
Who won? I know, but I'm not asking for the question.
Dan LeBatard
We were partners and we won.
Donald Trump
Okay?
Dan LeBatard
We were partners and we won. Whoa.
Cuervo
Who were you playing against?
Dan LeBatard
We were playing well, actually. We had Annika Sorenstam in the group, and we had somebody else on your side. No, no. Annika was on somebody else's side. And when we realized how good she was, we immediately all fought over.
Cuervo
What do you mean you realized how good she was? She's like, what is forever?
Dan LeBatard
Hey, Annika was seriously good, and she is seriously good. She's terrific.
Cuervo
You're not gonna give us the stakes if we badge one more time.
Dan LeBatard
I don't wanna do that. I don't wanna embarrass you.
Cuervo
All right, let me do it another way. The highest stakes that Donald Trump has ever played for on the golf course.
Dan LeBatard
Well, actually, the highest stakes are, you know, I've made some of my best deals on the golf course, and I've gotten to know people and I bought Trump Tower on, you know, fifth edit. I built it, but I bought the site because of golf, because the people that I played golf with really liked me a lot. And I made the deal because of them. I mean, because of golf. And I've made many great deals, and these are billion dollar deals because of golf. So golf. And, you know, I tell the people at the Wharton School of Finance, which is considered the best business school, I say, you know, you should teach golf at the school, because I've made many great deals on the golf course. One of the reasons I got Turnberry was because of golf. I was playing something else. And the folks that had Turnberry for many years got to know me on the golf course, and I was able to get Turnberry in Scotland, which is one of the great places, one of the great iconic places in the world, not just in the world of golf. So I've made many great deals on the golf course. Big ones, stugats.
Cuervo
Did you see what Trump just did to me?
Stu Gotz
Of course I saw it.
Cuervo
Trump, do you know what you just did to me?
Dan LeBatard
I asked. You turned it around.
Cuervo
You did. Okay. At least you did it. Aware. At least I knew.
Dan LeBatard
No, no, no. I turned around. I sort of, I answered it like a politician talking about the most I ever played for. I gave you an extra little spin. Maybe that spin was more interesting.
Cuervo
But no, no, Trump, answer that question.
Dan LeBatard
The biggest I, I, I flipped it around. I liked my answer better. I think it's fine, Trump.
Cuervo
The audience doesn't like that answer they want.
Dan LeBatard
Maybe they. Maybe they like it. Now, I like to gamble a little bit, but, you know, I keep it down to a minimum. Number one, you know, I've won a lot of club championships. I play well, but it's still not my business.
Donald Trump
Lawrence Taylor, I've heard many stories. I know you play golf with lt, and I've heard many stories about Lawrence maybe cheating a little bit on the golf course. Donald, can you confirm that for us?
Dan LeBatard
Well, I'll tell you what about Lawrence. Lawrence is a funny guy. He's got the worst grip I've ever seen, but he can play, and he's as good a chipper as you'll ever see. And Lawrence played Jerry Rice on a show that I have on the Golf Channel where I introduce people. And they played as a celebrity, and Jerry played terrific. But Lawrence's chipping was. You have to see the show. Donald J. Trump's Fabulous World of Golf. I can't believe it or not. We had different people on the show. Oscar De La Hoya played some of them, But Jerry Rice and Lawrence Taylor played golf. And I'm telling you, Lawrence put on a chipping display. And Lawrence is a very good guy. And you talk about a guy who likes to gamble, but Lawrence is a very Donald. Good player.
Cuervo
He asked you for a great LT story on the golf course. You turned that around, too.
Dan LeBatard
Well, I could tell you that when he played Jerry Rice, he won, and it was very interesting. And he made a statement at the end. He said, jerry is a great golfer, but I'm a great winner. And I said, boy, that was a killer statement that was on television. And you know, they'll be playing that match for many, many years to come.
Donald Trump
But did he cheat?
Cuervo
No, no, just by the way.
Dan LeBatard
And Jerry's a great guy. No, I never saw Lawrence cheat. I played a lot of golf with Lawrence, and I could tell you plenty of guys that you know very well that I know that cheat like crazy. But. And I don't want to give you name one I know that'll be Dan's next.
Cuervo
Name one. Name one of them.
Dan LeBatard
No, no, no. I could tell you plenty. I won't do that.
Cuervo
Trump, you're not afraid of a beef.
Dan LeBatard
You're never afraid of a beef with Lawrence. Lawrence. I've never seen Lawrence.
Cuervo
All right, next question. Last question. He beefs with the president. You beef with everybody.
Dan LeBatard
Who are you beefing? I've played. I've played with Bill Clinton a lot, and he's a terrific guy.
Cuervo
Cheater.
Dan LeBatard
And he's actually a very underrated golfer. He actually. If he played well, he plays. He likes to play, but he actually hits the ball very nicely.
Cuervo
Who are you beefing with these days? Give me a name. Who are you beefing with?
Dan LeBatard
Meaning fighting with?
Cuervo
Yes.
Dan LeBatard
Wow. That many people. I can't believe it. I must be losing my edge. I'm getting along with too many people. This isn't exciting, but not too many. I mean, the Rosies of the world, as far as I'm concerned. You know, you can have her, but not too many people. I get along with a lot of people.
Cuervo
All right, Donald, always good talking to you. Thank you for putting up with our nonsense.
Dan LeBatard
Thank you, fellas. It's a great show. Have a good time.
Donald Trump
All right, we're back after this.
Tony
All right, what's up, guys? Tony here, and I wanted to talk about something super important. And that's how I keep my home protected. Obviously, you guys know I have a little one back at home. My wife is there with her, and I get tremendous peace of mind knowing that the moment I leave for work that my home, my property, my family is protected not just reactively, but proactively. By Simplisafe, they are the number one for home security on the planet. On the market, there's nobody better than simply safe. I got the cameras going on. I got indoor cameras. I got outdoor cameras. And when you have your wife at home and the big dog's not there.
Jeremy
Right?
Tony
Simplisafe's new active guard outdoor protection helps stop break ins before they happen. AI powered cameras, live monitoring agents detect suspicious activity around the property. If somebody's lurking, agents talk to them in real time, turn on spotlights and can call the police. Proactively deterring crime before it starts. Everything's on the app. I want to see the cameras. Boom. I see who's walking their dog a little too close to my yard. Maybe leaving some dog residue close to my yard. I can go on the microphone, say, buddy, clean up after your dog.
