The conference final picture is a lot clearer after last night. We have Brad Williams on to talk about the Duck season. Plus we give our reviews for prime videos off campus. Oh yeah, this is the Hockey Show. David Drunken the Hockey News is to my left. We have Rosie and Ethan as well. My name is Roy Balmy. This is the Hockey Show. The Maple Leafs are still in the news as they fired the head coach, Craig Berube. The chief had a long, tiring, just a bad, bad season for himself, which of course included him getting injured at the gym. His head got cracked open. I still don't know how that happened. Maybe a dumbbell fell on his head or whatever.
David
I think that's probably, that's probably what happened.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. So second worst team in the conference. They were the worst team in the Atlantic Division and fifth worst in the league, I believe. But yet they felt their way up to the top and now have the number one overall pick via the draft lottery. And because you have a new general manager, of course the head coach is pretty much sacrifice in that situation. What could you describe what's going on going on in Toronto right now, Dave?
David
It's a lot in flux right now. I have to wonder, is John Chaika and Matt Sandin going to have to give Auston Matthews the same kind of treatment that Connor McDavid had got the last couple summers at Edmonton when they were trying to convince him to stick around and stick with the team? See what happens. We got something. We're going to get a goalie, we promise. Like what's Toronto going To do like they've got to. And they. Look, they've got a good pitch right now. Look, we're rebuilding a little. Not rebuilding, but the front office is being rebuilt.
Roy Balmy
Not a little bit either.
Ethan
I don't think they have a great. A great pitch.
David
Look, they've got talents. They've got Gavin McKenna coming in. They've got.
Ethan
We think. We don't know for sure. Like, what if Chica takes somebody else?
Roy Balmy
Are you serious?
David
Well, that.
Roy Balmy
Yes.
Ethan
We don't know. Like, there are. There is debate out there that Gavin McKenna might not be assuredly the number one overall pick this year.
David
Is that debate being put out by people who aren't picking number one?
Ethan
Yeah. I mean, I saw the Athletic. I mean, again, it's up to the Maple Leafs, but I saw the Athletic put out their rankings and they had Gavin McKenna fourth, so.
Rosie
And who they.
Ethan
I think there is some dispute that it could not be Gavin McKenna. I think they should take Gavin McKenna. I think any GM that passes on Gavin McKenna will be fired within three years. But John Chaca, we, you know, he's. He's that guy. Like, he might do something zany. You know what I mean?
Roy Balmy
Yeah. Well, Rosie does put up a good question. Who do they have first? I mean, obviously, they're going to have to try to fill a hole, but what hole is that?
David
No, they've got. They've got a lot of questions to answer in Toronto. And I mean, look, it's the most. Arguably the most popular franchise in the world, most profitable. They've got a lot of things going for them. It's just the hockey on the ice has been a struggle. And we talked about it last week. Like, it's not like Toronto hasn't had any success. Like, they've had some success, but similarly to Edmonton, they. They can't get over the hump. And when you're putting all that kind of resources into it and you've got that kind of following and you're in that kind of cauldron. It's tough.
Roy Balmy
Another firing happened. This one happened yesterday as the Edmonton Oilers fired head coach Chris Knobloch. And the way they handle it, handled it, was not good. Frank Cervalli reported that the Oilers this week asked the Guard to go to Knights for permission to interview Bruce Cassidy, who they fired a couple of weeks before the playoffs. They replaced him with John Torella, who. We'll get to that in a little bit, by the way, after what happened last night. But, yeah, Chris not Block was still the head coach at that time. So it seems to me that they kind of did things ass backwards there. I, I, I don't know. May, may maybe it's the like I would like them to be a little bit more professional there. Do one thing first instead of, you know, the other thing, which was look for a new coach. But hey, when you've been to back to back Stanley cup championships and then you bow out in the first round, I guess time's up there for Chris N. Block.
David
It just was so horribly handled, Roy. Like you kind of hit the nail on the head. Like if you want to move on, fine, then move on. Don't leave the guy blowing in the wind while you're trying to look for another guy. This is supposedly a team that's going to treat their guys well. Chris Knobach was their guy and the way that they treated him in a very public way, not cool at all. Like, I would imagine that it would put a pause in some people's head when they're thinking about looking into places to work. Like, I mean look, it's the NHL so jobs are going to get picked up really quick. But like that's not a cool way to treat somebody who at that moment that was your guy.
Roy Balmy
Well, the other thing is maybe they fired the wrong guy. Maybe they should have gone a little bit above and maybe Stan Bowman should. Again, the ax there.
Ethan
This is what I don't get, Roy, is are they really going to let Stan Bowman make another hire? Are they really going to give him another off season of the Connor McDavid window? Like he failed miserably this year? The Tristan Jari trade was a disaster. Even worse, looks like trading Brett Kulak, who just scored the over overtime winner to send the Colorado Avalanche to the Western Conference final for the. Yeah, I mentioned the Colorado Avalanche. Sorry, I'm all, I'm all over the place back here right now. But anyway, Stan, keep that mic on. Are they really going to let Stan Bowman make another H? They, I don't think they can do it and it seems like they're going to. Now when it comes to the handling of the knob lock firing, like this is kind of what happens in the NHL. I mean earlier this year we saw two coaches get fired and their replacements were immediately hired. There weren't interim coaches. John Tortorella immediately replaced Bruce Cassidy and Pete DeBoer immediately replaced Patrick Waugh in On the Island. So like this is kind of what they do in the NHL right now. It happened a leak. I think the team that handled the situation worse was Vegas, who will not Let Edmonton interview Bruce Cassidy which is like standard operating procedure in the NHL. And it's just to me that's another example of Vegas just doing things the wrong way.
David
Vegas doesn't believe in standard operating procedure. We established that.
Roy Balmy
No, and that's why they're on to the fifth Western Conference final in the nine years of existence.
David
That's a good point.
Roy Balmy
That's some petty divisional stuff probably I think not just not going to let them have permission to interview a coach for the arrival. But yeah, that, that's just. That's just not. And going into Edmonton's probably the most important off season since the last one because this was a show me season for. For Connor McDavid as he starts his extension this upcoming season. I mean, what are we doing here?
David
I think that I read this is going to be the sixth coach for Edmond, for McDavid and Draisaitl in. In what, nine, 10 years? Five, 14 and 15. They came in.
Roy Balmy
Jay Woodcraft was one of them. Yeah. And he probably should be interviewed over in Toronto as well.
Ethan
Yeah.
David
Wasn't he's on who's coaching staff? He's on Anaheims, right? Yes, he's with Q. Yeah.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. I don't think he's. I don't think he's gonna go anywhere.
Ethan
We've spent way too much time on two Canadian teams that are not in the playoffs anymore.
Roy Balmy
Thank you for telling me how to run the show, Ethan. That's great. Thank you. Thank you. As we go into the playoffs though, uh, speaking of the Golden Knights, they eliminated the Ducks last night to advance to the Western Conference final for the fifth time in a nine year history. Did not hang around Anaheim too long for the talk to the media. However, John Torella decided it was time to go. He didn't talk to the media. He sent one guy to a side room to talk to the media. And Mitch Marner and Brett Howden went into the media room and spoke quickly in the podium because they didn't want to miss the bus.
David
And they made that very clear.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. And that sort of move right now is just indicative of how Vegas respects the media, which is not a lot of respect. And this gives us a chance to allow David to go on a rant because David is a part of the Professional Hockey Writers association and he did not like this move one bit. Dave, yell me no like.
David
No, no like. All right, thank you. Rose. No like what are we doing? Like it's standard operating procedure and this is the playoffs. This isn't just like a regular season. Game in December or some bullshit like that. This is. Not only is it the playoffs, either they clinched the second round, they're going to the conference finals, and the head coach who was hired a week before the playoff starts, one of the most controversial coaches who just led his team to the conference finals. You're not going to speak to the media. You're going to push your players through the media room because I'm going to leave you if you're not on the bus by 10:57. Like, what are we doing, man? I'm going to calm down for a second.
Roy Balmy
No, you can keep yelling.
David
No, I think our buddy Mark Spector put it pretty well. Ethan, if you have that tweet, can you put it up, please? Spec basically put out there that here it is like clockwork. When Torts moves on, he'll be a media panel talking, taking a media paycheck from a media outlet. He'll have time for the media then, but he just doesn't need him right now, is all. Yeah, like, is that like, totally hitting the nail on the head? Like, dude, fulfill your obligations. Like, it was last week when we were talking about how we hadn't had a Torts moment yet since he arrived in Edmonton. That had been very quiet. Or since he arrived in Vegas. Excuse me, had been very quiet. Yep, here we go. The torch show is on.
Roy Balmy
This is a. This is a thing where the league and, you know, the pw, the phwa, kind of is in lock step when it comes to actual journalism and talking to these players. You need to go into the locker room within five minutes of, you know, the final horn. You know, that's what's. That's usually the mandate. That doesn't necessarily happen, though.
David
No, but the door opens always and there's players available. Like, even the Panthers, to their credit. Like, the locker room might be empty except for the three guys that are going to talk, but they're there and they talk win, loss, whatever. Like, they give you guys at the podium, they give you guys at scrums, and that's what most teams are supposed to do. That's the way it's the reason that the league and the PWA have an agreement. Like, that's why the PWA gets to vote. Like, that's a. It's a mutual beneficial thing that they have going on. So, no, this is not cool. I'm sure PWA president Steve Wino is not happy with what he saw. Bill Daly for the NHLPA probably not happy with what he saw. It's just not good all around and torts just doesn't give a shit.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, it's just not a good look. And it makes us media people not happy and complain on our platform like we just did. I mean, that's content right there for us. And of course you're not happy because if you're a reporter going into these situations, you're looking to write a story, you're looking to get a subject, and you're denied that. Your job is kind of affected by that, isn't it?
David
Yeah, well, for sure. If you're, if you're going into a post game situation with certain expectations that are universally met across the board, regular season, playoffs, and you're preparing to do your job based off of that. And then all of a sudden it's like, oh, no, you're not getting any quotes. You're not going to get to ask these guys about this. You can't ask the coach how this feels. None of that. Like you still get the job done, of course. But no, like it totally throws a wrench into the gears and it's just unprofessional.
Ethan
It's not cool.
Roy Balmy
One of the major awards has already been decided. It was a pretty easy one. It was Matthew Schaefer, the New York Islanders. He is rookie of the year. He won the Calder Trophy. In fact, it was unanimous.
David
Yeah, First Calder Trophy for a defenseman in like 100 years. Right? Rose?
Rosie
Oh, I was wrong about that.
David
But I called it.
Rosie
I called it.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, you did call it.
David
So did I. Gotta get Rose the Matthew shield, Roy.
Rosie
But you know, Puck, I don't. So for me.
Roy Balmy
Ah, you want me to be impressed? Is that what's important?
Rosie
Yeah, that's a milestone for me. Well, you, I don't care if you're impressed. I am impressed.
Roy Balmy
Oh, yes, you do. Yes, you do. Because you complain about it.
David
Rosie.
Rosie
I am impressed. Impressed of myself. Right, right. David and Ethan.
David
I think he did.
Ethan
I was impressed with you.
Roy Balmy
Well, congratulations. 198 PHWA members voted him first place. That's the first time that has happened. Unanimous unanimously since Team Usolani won the call to Trophy in 1992-93. Not for that season.
David
He scored like a thousand goals that year.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, yeah, he, he had the, the rookie record, but it was 50 members back then. Now it's like it almost.
David
It's above double inflation.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, inflation. It was an easy decision. I mean, 23 goals tied a record for most goals by a rookie defenseman. He was also the first defenseman in more than 90 years to lead rookies in all positions in goals. It was well deserved. And I think that's what rosie meant by 100 years there. Led the league in all positions for all positions in rookies for most goals in a season.
David
I just noticed. I was like, trying to give Rose a little hand motion off camera, and then I saw my hand just like in your camera shot. So I apologize for that.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, that's okay. What? No, I'll do it.
David
I just sent it to her right now. It's going to make her very happy. Look,
Roy Balmy
Johnny, look.
Rosie
Oh, my God. I'm in.
Roy Balmy
Congratulations.
Rosie
Oh, my God, he's in.
David
Barkov's playing today.
Ethan
Oh, he already had an assist to Lundell for a goal.
David
No, we did that right now.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ethan
The world championships.
Rosie
Can you put the game here?
Roy Balmy
We cannot do that right now, but
David
yes, it's happening in Switzerland.
Rosie
My sister lives there. I'm going to Switzerland and she could
David
be watching Barki right now.
Rosie
She's in Austria right now.
Roy Balmy
Austria, That's.
David
That's in Germany.
Roy Balmy
Austria.
Rosie
That's Austria.
David
That's a country.
Roy Balmy
That's a country. Austria.
Rosie
I'm gonna show you. I'm gonna try your history and countries and you show me hockey.
Roy Balmy
I'm glad you were listening to that segment. We just officially gave you props there, so congratulations there, Rosie. Good job.
Rosie
And where do you give him props?
Roy Balmy
I. I like 5 minutes ago, when you were busy paying attention to Alexander Barkov in the world champion Schaefer.
David
Props.
Roy Balmy
At least you're watching hockey. At least. And that's. That's very good.
David
She's distracted about hockey. Like, that's.
Ethan
Speaking of hockey. The Montreal Canadiens are up 32 in their series against the Buffalo Sabers. The. Well, you're seeing you out of the drive. The Colorado Avalanche eliminated the Minnesota Wild in a great series the other night. Like we gonna talk about that at all?
Roy Balmy
No. It's time for Puck Luck is sponsored by DraftKings. DraftKings. The Crown is yours, David. Go ahead.
David
All right, so I don't have the odds yet because they have. It's for tomorrow. There's no games tonight. But I've got the three plays for you. And I think it's going to be a good one. First, we're going to take the Montreal Moneyline. They've been the best, better team in the series. I think Buffalo looks defeated. They look. It looks like their youth is showing, Roy. They're just taking silly penalties. And Montreal just looks like more of a veteran team, which is interesting because Buffalo's at the More veteran coach, but I'm taking the Montreal moneyline. I'm also going to take Habs goaltender Jacob Dobish over saves. It's probably going to be in the 25 to 27 range, but I imagine Buffalo is going to continue to put a lot of rubber on him. He's been really good in this series on the whole, obviously in their wins. Hey, so I'm going to take Doish over saves and then finally I'm going to take Rasmus stallion over two and a half shots on goal. He's been ripping puck this entire series. I think he's done over this in all but one game. So I'm going to take those three. And I'm going to guess it's going to be like in the Plus 4 to 500 range, but either way it seems like a smart play for what will probably be the last game of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Roy Balmy
All right, well, there you go.
David
There I go.
Roy Balmy
There you go. That's puck luck. That's sponsored by DraftKings. DraftKings. The Crown is yours. It's time for the hockey stat of the week. The hockey stat of the week.
Ethan
Hey, guys. How's it going?
Rosie
What's up?
David
E. Didn't realize you were here.
Ethan
So I know I said I wanted to talk about the playoffs, which I do still. And I think, you know, the playoffs have been really exciting. But. But we are going to go back to a non playoff team here and one that we talked about earlier, the Edmonton Oilers. Guys, this is according to Michael Amato on Twitter. This will be Ryan Nugent Hopkins 10th coach in 15 NHL seasons when the Oilers hire a new coach this off season. He's played for the same team his entire career.
David
That's kind of crazy.
Ethan
The oilers have had 10 coaches in 15 seasons and I know coaching 10 years in the NHL are shorter than they've ever been, but 10 coaches in 15 years with the same organization is insane. There's been no stability in Edmonton since Ryan Nugent Hopkins has been there.
Roy Balmy
It's bad, man. And that's not good.
David
I'm looking back to see how many coaches the Panthers have had since they drafted Sasha Barkov.
Ethan
It's going to be up there. You might have a bunch.
David
To be fair to it, Barkov was what, 2013?
Ethan
13. Ekblad was 2014.
David
Okay, the border. No, Deboer was pre. Deneen Deboer was 2011. He was out. So Barkey had Horacek Galant, Tom Rowe, Bob Boudner, Joel Twenville, Andrew Burnett and Paul Murray. So that's seven.
Roy Balmy
That's good. That's a good amount.
Ethan
That's still plenty of coaches.
David
That's seven coaches with having the same one for the last four years.
Brad Williams
Yeah.
Roy Balmy
Wow. All right, Ethan, you have the floor. You have at least three minutes.
Ethan
I have at least three minutes. To what? Talk about the playoffs.
Roy Balmy
Yes.
Brad Williams
Wow.
Ethan
Guys, listen, I'm really intrigued by. First of all, I'm really intrigued by this upcoming Vegas Colorado series because Vegas is playing better than they have all year. And this is kind of finally like the Vegas that we expected to see. Right. They're playing like a team that is a legitimate Stanley cup contender. Now, how much of that is playing against the Utah Mammoth in the Anaheim Ducks? I'm not really sure, but they've gotten better in each series so far as the series has progressed, and they certainly got better from the first round to the second round. They dominated the Ducks in the last few games of that series and including the closeout game last night, I think they can give Colorado a shot. I don't think they'll win the series or even come close to it necessarily, but it will be a really interesting series because like Mike was saying on the show earlier today, Vegas has some elite defensive forwards that will be on the ice at all times. Now in Montreal, Buffalo really intrigued by this one as well. I think Montreal goes into Saint Tribel in game six and closes out the Sabers. The Sabres are a really good young team and I don't think that my impression of them has changed much during this series. The problem is they're really young and they're really inexperienced and they're kind of really stupid. And it starts with their leaders on this team. Rasmus Dahleen, their captain, and Tage Thompson, who wears an A and is their best player, have taken some really dumb penalties in this series. And it's kind of trickled down to the rest of the team where Buffalo has been on the penalty kill way too much and it's cost them because Montreal has been fantastic on the power play in this series with finding their form from early in the Tampa series when they scored three goals in five games in game one. So in five tries in game one, I should say so. I think Montreal is going to close them out here. And people continue. I've been saying it all. Playoffs people continue to sleep on Montreal continue to think that Montreal will get dog walked by Carolina. I do not think that at all. I think they're a legitimate cup contender and they can definitely give Carolina a shot. I even think they could win that series. And I would predict them to win that series because I kind of did predict them to go to the Stanley cup final before the playoffs even started. So really excited about what's going on in that Montreal Buffalo series. Can't wait for game six tomorrow night. And until then, it's just a waiting game for that Colorado series in Carolina. What is it going to be, 11 days if it goes to game seven or something like that? Guys that they've been on the couch. Going to be. Going to be a really exciting conference final.
Rosie
And let me remind you that only Ethan and I, we're still alive.
Roy Balmy
That's true. The Dutch Rose knocked me out, and obviously David had the Kings, so there's that. And quite frankly, Rosie shouldn't be in this either.
Rosie
Oh, no, no, no. That was picked by Ethan, so that doesn't count. My. My team is the Avalanche. What can I do the next. If. If the. Wait.
Roy Balmy
Rose had the Flyers.
Rosie
No.
Roy Balmy
Before she decided to take charge, and
Ethan
then she decided she didn't want the Flyers, and so she picked the Avalanche.
Roy Balmy
You.
Rosie
You. You picked the fly.
Ethan
I know, but that's how it works on this show. Usually on the Bucket of Death, you pick.
Roy Balmy
No, you know what the bucket is?
Ethan
The bucket. Excuse me.
Rosie
You can go with wins, because I'm not gonna have this discussion.
Roy Balmy
Okay, it's time for wins and fails. Dave, what you win.
David
My win of the week is gonna make Ethan very happy. The three finalists were named this week for the Jim Gregory GM of the Year awards. And guess who didn't make the cut. Ethan.
Ethan
Finally. Guys, can we. Do we have to rename it the Jim Neal Memorial Award or something alive, brother.
David
Stop doing that.
Roy Balmy
Well, him getting nominated is dead. So does that.
David
Interestingly enough, the year the Panthers are decimated by injuries is the year that Jim Neal doesn't go up for the award. E. Someday. Someday, Bill Zito will get his flowers. Now, he doesn't care because he's got his Stanley cup rings, but we care. It's deserved. This year's finalists, Billy Darren in Minnesota, Avalanche DM Chris McFarland and Dutch GM Pat Verbeek. Personally, I think I'm leaning toward Pat Verbeek, but either way, I think it's a win for us all because we finally will get a new winner.
Roy Balmy
All right, my win of the week comes from game two of the Canadian Sabre series. A scrum happened. Somehow, Mike Matheson ended up on top of Zach Benson. And while that scrum moved closer towards them, Matheson decided to protect Benson's Head from the nearby skates that were going towards him. And even in competition. That is a good job by Matheson to protect his opponent.
David
I love.
Roy Balmy
From what could have been a very much gruesome injury. And we've seen skate injuries in this league before. Never good. So good on Matheson protecting Zach Vincent right there.
David
Roy. That is why Ethan and Roy and Rose. That is why Buffalo's losing the series. Because one team in the midst of all this playoff psychotic chaos, one team has the wherewithal to still understand what's more important.
Roy Balmy
The. Yeah. What's more important there is being disciplined. And Buffalo has not been disciplined at all this entire series.
Ethan
No, they have not.
Roy Balmy
No. In fact, both teams need to keep their sticks down. That's the other thing we saw in game three. That when you have your sticks up, somehow, some way, most likely you're going to end up getting a double minor because somebody's going to get cut open with a stick. And that's what happened actually the past the entire series.
David
It's even the top end of the stick, though. We had a butt end penalty in the series.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, it was two button. Really.
Ethan
Oh, that was Josh Manson and Michael McCarron.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. So. Yeah, the. But the Western Conference. Yeah, I watched the other end of the stage.
David
Oh, man.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, so that's not good. Either way is your win.
Ethan
My win of the week. Guys, we're going to go to the PWHL for this one. The conference final between. Or the semifinal. Excuse me, between the Montreal Victoire and the Minnesota Frost. And Renee Debienne. And if we can take this video, Danny B. Made an unreal save right here on her back. Goes up in the air and catches it with the glove here on Rene Deien, of course, the goaltender that lost the gold medal game for Canada against the United States. But she makes an amazing save here. The Victoire would go on to win that game and that series. 2 1. In game five over the Minnesota Frost, they will face the Ottawa Charge in the PWHL finals for the Walter Cup. So shout out to the pwhl. Shout out to the Victoire. And shout out to the Ottawa Charge.
David
Victoire.
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
Ethan
That means victory in French.
David
Is that what they say on. On the TV calls if I watch here? Come to Victual.
Rosie
Yes.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. Yes.
Rosie
Yeah.
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
Ethan
Just like they'll say Santra Bell as well. The official name of the building. I'm always right, Rose.
Roy Balmy
No, you're not. No. No. Don't ever say that again. By the way, the Minnesota Frost Best jerseys.
David
Yeah.
Ethan
So good. So good. If anybody has a Taylor Heisey Minnesota Frosters and wants to send it my way, shout out your boy.
Roy Balmy
Rosie. What is your win?
Rosie
So my win of the week is something I want to start doing. It's gonna be. I don't know if I'm gonna be able to do it, but listen to this masterpiece. I'm not gonna put it all. I might put it all. Put play. Go.
Roy Balmy
Well, it's the Wild in the heat. Avalanche rolling, putting Minnesota to sleep 5 to 2. We asked him out at home.
Brad Williams
Denver's house. Y' all just kissing our dome mile high. Nate's running the show. Wild guy bent couldn't handle the blow. Matt Cannon came out swinging.
Roy Balmy
Gold and two dimes Got bold and crumpled Sent him back to hard times.
Brad Williams
One snipe, two sit ups. 22 on the clock.
Roy Balmy
Five shots fired.
Brad Williams
Had the Wild in a shock.
Roy Balmy
Nickers lit the lamp first, set the tone real quick. Valeria sealed it.
Ethan
That was not, how you say, nature.
Roy Balmy
So slick.
Brad Williams
Power play. Popping 2 for 5.
Roy Balmy
That's the edge. Wild went 0 for 2. Couldn't climb off the ledge.
Brad Williams
Fans in the stain chilling n today who's still down waiting for help to play?
Roy Balmy
Cap resolve took a low blow.
Brad Williams
Burns missed his aim Got kicked where it stings.
Roy Balmy
Old crowd felt ashamed.
David
Jack KIT verse sings the crowd felt the shame. That's better than anything that came out of Ottawa, I'll tell you that.
Rosie
I'm telling you, I'm doing that now.
Roy Balmy
That's true.
Rosie
I'm doing that now. I. I just need help from what that. That was done with.
Roy Balmy
So you're going to create songs?
Rosie
I'm gonna create songs, but I'm gonna help ask AI to help me create the melody because I kind of. I don't know how to play music.
Roy Balmy
Can you do something other than country?
David
That was kind of good.
Rosie
I actually like country, so I'll do whatever.
David
At first it sounded weird, but the more like it kind of. Yeah. And the word, like, whoever wrote that, like it was. Yeah, it was well written.
Rosie
All right. Okay.
David
Good win, Rose.
Roy Balmy
Okay, let's go to Phil's. David, what's your film?
David
We kind of touched on it a little bit. Oil. Yeah, that works.
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
David
A little bit earlier. Oiler. My fail is the Oilers. Roy, it's the Oilers.
Roy Balmy
It's a.
David
It's just a shit show, right?
Ethan
Nothing more needs to be said.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, like we said it already.
David
Well, I'm looking at my bullet points that I wanted to talk about. We've basically Said it all. Stan Bowman's on the hot seat. Every few off seasons, we've been saying it's the most important off season for the Soilers team. They've known the problem. Problem for year after year after year and said they still don't have a goaltender. So, yeah, Oilers, you're my fail.
Roy Balmy
All right. Back when the playoffs began, during one of the intermission reports on ESPN, Steve Levy challenged both Mark Messier and P.K. subman to pronounce Ukapeka Lukonen's name. And this is how it sounded.
David
Did you want to take a crack at that, anybody? Is that his first name?
Brad Williams
His friends call him upl.
Roy Balmy
All right, so that's obviously the fail here, but what's magnified that fail? Well, the Buffalo Sabres kind of recruited a couple of fans to correctly pronounce UPL's name, and this is how it sounded.
David
Okay.
Rosie
Uke Luca.
David
Peka.
Rosie
Lucan.
Brad Williams
Uko Peka.
Roy Balmy
Lucanin.
Rosie
Let's go. Ugo. Peko. Lucanin.
Roy Balmy
No, that's not how you say it.
Ethan
Rosie, say it.
Roy Balmy
No, it's not how you say it.
Rosie
Come on.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. Mess. Pk. You can't get outshined by a bunch of four year olds or toddlers in this situation. But you did, and that's not good. Ethan, what's your fail?
Ethan
I don't. I didn't have fail coming in, guys, but I'll talk about Ukapek Lugan in here.
Roy Balmy
You could have told me that before
Ethan
him pulled at the second intermission in arguably the most important game.
Roy Balmy
You could have told me that you didn't have a fail before this show, and I would not have gone to
Rosie
you just like I did.
Ethan
My fail is the. No, my fail is the Vegas Golden Knights, guys. No, my fail is the. It's the Vegas Golden Knights. Their behavior is terrible, and I'm tired of it. And I'm tired of them getting away with it. Carter Hart's playing well. It stinks. Nobody's having fun. I'm bummed that they're in the Western Conference.
Roy Balmy
So you, in lieu of not having a fail, did what David just did.
Ethan
Yes. Yes.
Roy Balmy
Yes.
Ethan
My fail is. Is the Vegas Golden Knights.
David
Carter Hart's last seven games. Ethan.918 save percentage, 2.7 goals against.
Ethan
Nobody's enjoying that.
David
Eight goals saved above expected.
Ethan
So nasty. Not having fun.
Roy Balmy
That's. That's unbelievable. Rose, you don't have a fail. Leader.
Rosie
Yeah, I already told you.
Roy Balmy
See, now, Rose told me this before the show, and I knew that. That's why I decided not to go to her, because I thought that you had a feel, Ethan. I mean, come on. What are we gonna do?
Rosie
Thank you. Thank you.
Roy Balmy
For those of you watching on DraftKings Network, please check out and subscribe to our YouTube channel at the Hockey Show DLS.
Ethan
Because.
Roy Balmy
Because. Coming up next, we have Brad Williams, who most likely is very sad his ducks lost last night, got eliminated by the Vegas Golden Knights. And we will talk about that coming up next with Brad Williams.
Ethan
Tony, you know that moment at a party or at a tailgate where everything just sort of clicks?
Brad Williams
I know it well.
Ethan
It's usually when I show up, everybody goes crazy.
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
Ethan
You usually take all the credit for it, but it's because Tony usually walks in with Cuervo.
Brad Williams
Walking like this.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ethan
Cuervo is a thing that turns hanging out into this is the night. It has that effect on people. It does. You usually take the credit for it, but again, it's the Cuervo effect. It's like that moment in a big game where everyone in the crowd just starts standing up, hootin and hollering, keep it, Cuervo.
Brad Williams
Keep it Cuervo, baby.
Roy Balmy
You can watch his new special live on Short street on his YouTube channel. You can find that at brattwilliamscomedy. Plus you can check out his podcast, Heightened babble. Everywhere you find those sorts of things, it is Brad Williams. And before we get to the playoffs, Brad, and I'm sure you're definitely ready to talk about that. I wanted to play this video to get your analysis. Do you know what the Blade Gang is?
Brad Williams
The Blade Gang?
Roy Balmy
Yes.
Brad Williams
I'm assuming that's what those vampires called themselves while having the rave in the movie Blade, which was a fire track, by the way.
David
Crazy opening scene.
Brad Williams
Yeah, that was a crazy opening scene.
Roy Balmy
That is not it. No, no. It's a bunch of guys. A bunch of people dressed up in full hockey pads in Buffalo, wearing skates. They have gotten some attention throughout the playoffs, and apparently they have added a dwarf to the game. This. This.
Brad Williams
Let's see if I know him.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, here's the video.
David
Because every dwarf knows every dwarf, right?
Roy Balmy
Yeah, Yeah.
Brad Williams
I mean, I hate to say that. All right, I'm trying to zoom in on this. On my. All right.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. So the dwarf is dressed up in full pads and in rollerblades, and he crashed into one of those training dummies for MMA artists wearing a cold Caulfield Canadian jersey. Teabagged him.
Brad Williams
Wow.
Roy Balmy
He.
Brad Williams
He. He did teabag him. And. And that is a devastating move. You oh, it's not that bad because dwarves are small, but we have big dumpers, man. We have Yokozuna Rikishi style dumpers. So doing that move is absolutely devastating. And I, I feel bad for that training dummy. Sadly, I made the joke. But I, but I do know that dwarf. That, that, yeah, that dwarf is a tick tocker. So I'm not surprised that he. Yeah, he, I think he's in the Tick tock where when Avatar came out where he. He's riding on the back of tall guys swimming underwater. It got a lot of views. But yeah, he's. Yeah, he's a tick tocker. But I. Now I know the Blade Gang because their first video that went viral was, was the guy skating backwards. I think it was against the Bruins. And then he tripped and fell on something.
Ethan
So good. So good.
Brad Williams
Yeah, yeah, that was classic. And yeah. So hey, man, that. This is why I love Buffalo. Buffalo goes all in. They go all out. They love their sports teams. They continue to love their sports team despite not winning titles. And they, they just keep showing up, man. So you gotta, you got to appreciate it. You got to appreciate the good, the good people of Buffalo. And I don't know how I'm viewing this because on one point, I would love to see a Canadian team win a cup. The other side, I would love to see Buffalo advance and for that city to get a cup. But talking to the Canadians that I've talked to, a lot of Canadians that I've talked to are like, no, we don't want the Canadians winning it. We don't not toast Montreal. Yeah, not those Canadians. We want, we wanted Ottawa. We, we, we. We want Calgary to get good again. We wanted McJesus to get a cup. You know, something, something like that. And that's not happening. Thanks to my Anaheim Ducks. Jesus will not get a cup.
Ethan
I mean, speaking of that, Brad, you were in Edmonton when the Ducks knocked out the Oilers, right? And then you, like, came out with your jersey on and, and dance the Pink Pony Club, which was a great touch. What was that reaction like? And what was everybody saying to you when that happened?
Brad Williams
So just to specify, I, I came out on stage wearing my Ducks jersey when I was doing a show the next night in Calgary.
Ethan
So they loved that probably, right?
Brad Williams
Oh, they loved it. They were going nuts. I made so much in merch sales that night. It was a really great move in. In Edmonton. I wasn't baldy enough to wear the jersey on stage, but I did have the game on during my meet and greet line. I Do a free meet and greet after every show. And I had the game on, so, like, it was in a casino, so all the TVs had the game on in the line, so you would just hear chirps and cheers and boos. There was a goal in that game that got disallowed because one of the Edmonton players kicked it in. And that was one of the better moments of my life. But then once I. Once the Ducks won the game and once the meet and greet line was over, I did put on my jersey and walk around the casino floor. And I'm still alive, so. Hey, that's good.
David
Well, they're friendly in Edmonton. I mean, you know, even when Roy and I were up there, they were pretty kind.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. Because we weren't wearing any Panthers jerseys or hats or anything like that, so they didn't know.
David
Well, I just have a question about what you were just saying. You said that that when that goal was disallowed, it made it the greatest night of your life. But I'd like to get some elaboration on that. Were there people sobbing around you that brought you joy at that moment?
Brad Williams
Yes, it was definite schadenfreude. And I grew up playing youth hockey. I played youth hockey from age 8 to age 15 when people got real big and I. And I stopped growing and my team was always the Flames. That was the youth team that I was always on. And my coach was from Calgary, and so he taught me to hate the Oilers. And so I'm a guy, you know, Joe Newendyke, Mike Vernon, Theron Fleury. These are the Flames that I grew up with and those teams that I really enjoyed. So, yeah, seeing Edmonton fans whine and cry and sob was just. It was beautiful. It was. It was. And then knowing that, and I imagine a lot of you guys felt the same way. Like, for Canadians, hockey is their birthright. They believe hockey is their birthright. So the fact that I'm sitting here as a child in Orange County, California, Anaheim, and I'm like, well, my team's winning. Yes. The great hockey hub of Anaheim, California. That. That just really drove the Canadian fans nuts.
Roy Balmy
All right, let's move on to the series that just ended yesterday. Yeah, I mean, I felt bad for you because I knew you were coming on today. And I realized, oh, no, this is an elimination game. What. What. What if the Ducks lose? And they ended up losing? So I was like, oh, he's a professional.
David
He's here.
Rosie
He thought he ghosted him.
Brad Williams
Yeah, man.
Roy Balmy
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I didn't really think that Brad was gonna ghost us. He did text me this morning, like, okay, I'll be on at 9:30, 9:30 my time. Yeah. Okay. All right, we're good. Yeah. Unless he changed his mind. But yeah, I mean it felt like, it felt like the game ended a minute in with Mitch Marner's goal. I mean, I was deflating, but that did.
Brad Williams
Yeah, that goal. Insane. I mean, between the legs on that pass for a breakaway was, was just nuts. Like I thought he went between the legs. And then they showed the replay and I was just like, holy crap. Crap. That was, that was an all time move. And you know, if that move is going to happen, you're like, well, I don't think it's going to be our night. But as a Ducks fan, I am proud of the team. You know, we hadn't made the playoffs since 2017, so to come back with a young, exciting team. We knocked out McJesus in the playoffs and so we're on the right path. We have a lot of young, really good players, really up and coming stars. We've hit on draft picks with Leo Carlson and Beckett Seneca, who, when you saw Beckett get drafted and his reaction was just like, why do they take me at three? Why. Why did they take me at three out of pads? He looks very tiny. And I was like, no, that guy's not going to do anything. And then he. And then he. That's all kind of scoring records. He's awesome.
David
He's awesome.
Brad Williams
Great player.
Ethan
Such a great player. Like, very good defensively as well. So responsible defensively. And he was one of the finalists for the Calder this year. Like, I think he came in third place. Like he is. Yeah, I love watching Beckett Seneca play.
Brad Williams
Yeah, scrappy player too. Not, not afraid to mix it up. Was definitely getting under some oiler skins and some night skins during, during the playoffs. So yeah, it's a young exciting team and even more so. And hockey fans won't truly, like, a lot of outside hockey fans won't understand this, but this year the Ducks changed their logo from the old sort of black logo to the orange and black, predominantly orange. And their whole slogan at the beginning of the season was, we are orange country. And as a guy from Orange County, I can tell you that made so many fans go, yes, this is our team. This is the team we're going to support. Because there are some other teams in the city of Anaheim that are trying to not be from Anaheim. They are trying to be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, which I'm sure many comedians have made the joke that literally translates to the. The Angels. Angels of Anaheim.
Roy Balmy
Well, they dropped the Anaheim, though. They. They don't. It's just the Los Angeles Angels.
Brad Williams
Yeah. Yeah, they're the Los Angeles Angels. It's like you play ball like a stone's throw away from the Magic Kingdom. You are not Los Angeles. You are Anaheim. You are Orange County. So to have the Ducks really embrace Orange country, to have the new ownership come in, put some money into the team, the Honda center, the pond has been. Has been refurbished, new logo. They have. We were one of the last teams to have those effects on ice before the game. For pregame, we have Duck drones that are flying around the Honda center. As before the game, there's lasers going off like it's a party, man. And it also in between. In between the action, they play like Orange county punk rock music. Like, there's a lot of offspring. There's a lot of Social Distortion. There's a lot of Lit. There's a lot of There. There's even a lot of Pennywise being played. They're from Long beach, so it's like that really embraced the team to Orange county and the fans have appreciated that and they're coming out. So we're really happy. We're really thankful that we have a young, exciting hockey team in Anaheim.
Roy Balmy
Well, obviously the Pacific Division was really, really bad this season, but despite that, it was really a surprising and refreshing sight to see the Ducks actually make the playoffs. And that's why Papavique Papave Verbeek is nominated for the GM of the Year Award and Jim Gregory Award. So you look at this future now in this young club where you see this team going,
Brad Williams
I hope that we get a few more vets on the team. John Carlson was an excellent pickup for the Ducks this year from the Capitals midseason. He was really. It helped to have a good veteran leadership in there, a guy who's won a cup of. So, yeah, the younger players are just going to get better. Beckett Seneca is going to get better. Leo Carlsen is going to get better. And also we have Lightning McQueen, our draft pick last year, who is going to come up and hopefully, hopefully we hit on him as well. So it's really exciting to see where this team is going. I'm kind of on the fence about goaltending. Dostahl was very streaky. He let in some soft ones. So. But it for goaltending for me is a lot like your NFL quarterback. Like, all right, you might want a new quarterback, but Then who are you going to bring in and who's better? Like, so if you make the switch, it's got to be someone better. So you can't just say, we want a new goalie or we want a new quarterback and then not have anyone improve at the position. So if they do go another way in goal, it has to be someone who is better than those doll, which Dostahl is like the. In my opinion, like a Ryan Tannehill of goalies, where it's like, yeah, he's just. He's just good enough to keep. Where you're like, yeah, he's. He's Ryan Tannehill. He's Kurt Cousins to make those. To make those comparisons.
David
You like that.
Ethan
Still young, though. He's still young and improving. Like, I think he can. He showed a lot of flashes this year, Brad, but, yeah, very. Definitely very streaky. And you saw that in the playoffs, and it kind of came back to bite you guys.
Brad Williams
Yeah. Yeah. If you're giving up three, four goals a game in the playoffs and you have a young team around you, that's really tough to overcome. I mean, in the Edmonton series, I think only one game, the Ducks scored first. They were behind in every game in that series, so that's really hard for a young team to continue to do that. So. And you saw it. You saw it again with the Knights. I mean, last night, three goals in the first period, and you're just sitting there like. Like, we blinked and it was done. So, yeah, that's something that just has to improve. But I love Coach Q. I think he's got. He's changed the culture around. Around the team, and it's a really exciting franchise, which I am really happy to be a fan of. And my. My advice. And my advice to every C or D list celebrity out there is become a fan of a team that doesn't have any celebrity fans. You got to. That's the way to go. Because if I was a Kings fan, I'm behind Will Ferrell. I'm behind Justin Bieber. I'm behind Kurt Russell. Like, I'm not getting any tickets. They're not doing anything for me. But the Ducks, it's like me and Trey Cool from Green Day and not a bad part.
David
That's a good show, man.
Brad Williams
Trey. Trey is a friend, so that helped. But now the Ducks are good. So as a Bronco fan, you see the helmet above me. Akeem Talib was at the game last night wearing a Ducks jersey. That was awesome. And Adam Devine has come by and As a fellow comedian, he's, he's starting to root for the Ducks. And, and the band, the Offspring, does their goal song and they, and they come to games. There's a, there's an Offspring night every year where they have alternative jerseys. So we are getting some celebrity firepower. And I, I keep texting my Ducks contact going, don't forget who was here. Don't forget who was here.
Ethan
I was gonna say, do you get, do you get grandfathered in?
David
Yeah, I hope so. There's a lot of celebrities, like, what happens if, like, some, some A listers like, oh, I love the Ducks. What happens if, like, Leo is suddenly, like, showing up at Ducks games? They're not gonna disrespect you. In that case, don't.
Brad Williams
Do not tell Leonardo DiCaprio about the quality of women in Orange County, California. Do not.
Ethan
Are they, are they 26?
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
David
Yeah.
Brad Williams
As a 42 year old, I probably shouldn't even answer this question. Yeah, but we, there's, there's a lot of young, attractive women in Orange County, California, and so don't tell Leo about them. Don't. Don't tell some of, some of the Laker fans to go south to behind the Orange curtain. Please don't do that, because I'm, I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying the fact that the Ducks are really nice to me and hooking me up. And they've got me down into the tunnel where my daughter held up her hand during the entrance and you just saw a bunch of Ducks players just giving her high fives, which was the absolute best. Until I realized, ah, my daughter's also a dwarf. They probably think she's a make a wish kid.
Roy Balmy
Oh, no, but that's.
Brad Williams
They're, they're, they're. They're a young, exciting team, man. And right now, yeah.
Roy Balmy
Remember to check out live on Short street at Brad Williams comedy on YouTube and Brad's podcast, Heightened Babble. That's Brad Williams. Not a Ducks fan. And unfortunately, he's gonna have to suffer throughout the rest of this offseason with the rest of us. Thank you, Brad, for joining us.
Brad Williams
Of course, man. Always a pleasure.
Ethan
Chris. Cody, when you come over to my house and we put on the games, I got basketball, I got baseball going on, but what do I lay out for you and the boys for entertainment and drinking?
Brad Williams
Miller Line.
Ethan
Uh huh. Those beautiful white cans or on draft or the bottle, if you prefer. Oh, when you open that with the

Okay, before we get out of here, if I don't bring this off campus, show up right now. Rosie, who forced us to watch this show, is most likely gonna bring out a hockey skate and slice my throat. And I don't want that happening to me. So we are going to talk about this. Yes. She's very violent. She's a very violent person, I'll tell you. Yeah. So we're gonna talk about this off campus show. I watched the first episode and I can already tell you that have zero interest or desire to watch this show any further. So in the words of Amino Hansen, Zach Harper and Anthony Mays phobe, David, what do you think
David
you're, you're bowing out?
Roy Balmy
Yeah, I'm done.
Rosie
No, you cannot.
David
You gotta watch the whole season.
Roy Balmy
Yeah, I don't have to do.
David
Well, you don't have to, but I mean that's what we, you know, leave.
Rosie
You like wanting more.
David
No, you gotta hate watching it if anything else.
Roy Balmy
I don't want to hate watch anything. I live a life where I try not to hate on anything other than Sidney Crosby and I have a nice life because of that. So I don't want to hate watch it. Just.
David
All right. Anyway.
Roy Balmy
Anyway,
David
you know, I, I feel like when I was watching it, I'm going to have a hard time only because I don't have the patience for the development that's going to take a whole season for this love triangle or whatever it is that that's going to come together. And you know, I would assume that they're going to end up together at the end.
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
David
But it's just going to take forever. And for me, that's what I'm not looking forward to. But in terms of like the show itself, it kind of surprised me, Rose. I wasn't expecting it to be that raunchy. Not, not complaining because I didn't think
Ethan
it was that raunchy.
Roy Balmy
It was showing, Bear.
Ethan
But I also. You, you watched, you watched heated rivalry, right, Dave?
David
I did.
Ethan
Compared to heated rivalry, that was not very raunchy at all.
David
Well, that's the thing. Like I, I've only watched one episode of this, so I feel like there's more coming.
Ethan
Yeah. I think I've heard from people who have watched more that it does get raunchier. But that first episode was like.
David
It kind of like I wasn't expecting.
Ethan
Walked you into the water a little.
David
I wasn't expecting to have that in my face like right then and there. So it did catch me off guard.
Rosie
Yeah, I think it was unnecessary. Like all the time they put things that are necessary and the part of the friend, like the friend just changed.
David
She just walked in and took her clothes.
Ethan
Yeah, that was weird. That was weird. I didn't get, I didn't get the point of that. Like, that was, like, unnecessary. Yeah, that was just cartoon.
David
That's exactly what it is. Like, what does that say in the script? Like, but all of these shows.
Ethan
All of these shows are silly, though, Dave. Like, it's. It's supposed to be silly, and it's like, it's entertaining. Like, it's. It's silly in an entertaining way.
Rosie
The thing is.
Roy Balmy
What?
Ethan
Go ahead, Rosie.
Roy Balmy
The.
Rosie
The actress, she's 19, and you guys have not watched a lot more. I'm not gonna say more, but they do protect her.
Roy Balmy
Like, they have a body double.
Rosie
No, not. Nothing. Like, you won't see. You won't see anything of her because she's 19. So I like that they're protecting her,
David
but within the construct of the show, that seems a little weird if everybody else is going to be taking their clothes off, but the main character isn't.
Rosie
I'm so sorry. I think shows don't need to show me a but or.
David
No, I'm not disagreeing with that point.
Ethan
I will say there was a but very early in this episode. Like, very early on there was a but. Right. Like, within the first minute you saw a but, and it was like. Like, all right. Like, so.
Roy Balmy
So.
Ethan
But it kind of. From there, like, it slowed a little bit. I thought it. Because of how quickly there was. But there was gonna be way more of this. Yeah.
David
Where are you gonna go from there?
Ethan
Right. Yeah, I guess I just thought there would be a little. It would be a little more, considering how quickly that was presented. But it kind of tailed off throughout the episode. But I thought it was good. I liked it. I. I find the characters very intriguing. Like, I think that there's a. A lot to. They set up a lot in the first episode to be developed. I only watched the first episode. I know Rose has already watched it, like, twice.
Rosie
No, I mean five. But I'm waiting for my best friends to react to it because.
Roy Balmy
Okay, before we get to the hockey aspect of this.
Ethan
What? Hockey aspect?
Roy Balmy
Yes, yes, I saw hockey on this show. And we'll get to that in a second. But, Rose, since you already the expert in this situation, why don't you give your review?
Rosie
Okay, so first of all, my review. I. I don't know if they're doing the Bridgerton thing where one of the characters looks very good, and then in the next season, they. The other character looks good because only one of them, I think.
David
Well, Graham.
Rosie
But as I was telling David at the beginning, when they put the TikTok, I was like, they're good looking. But I will not fall in love with them.
Brad Williams
Wow.
Rosie
I fell in love with Graham. I'm sorry. That guy.
David
Belmont Camelli.
Rosie
Yeah.
Roy Balmy
Wow, what a name.
David
But the acting state's coming up soon.
Rosie
For a 19 year old and him, I think the acting was spot on.
David
He's like 10 years older than her.
Rosie
Yeah.
Roy Balmy
You thought the acting was good.
Rosie
Of that. Of the leads.
Ethan
Roy, come on. You're not gonna have, like, cinematic Oscar worthy acting in an Amazon prime.
Roy Balmy
I have to criticize her, saying that the acting was one of the leads. Relative. You have to do relative to the outcome. Just the leads.
David
It never dawned on me that I wasn't good acting. I feel like if I thought it was bad, I would have had that thought at some point. And I never had that thought.
Rosie
And if it was bad, you were cringed the entire time. And I was.
Roy Balmy
I did.
David
You know what, Rose? They distracted me with the nudity. I wasn't thinking about the acting.
Ethan
It's a heady play.
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
Ethan
You know, it's a heady play by KG Vets.
David
It's a butt play.
Rosie
For anybody that hasn't, like, what is
Roy Balmy
the matter with you?
David
This is what happens when we start getting into, like, these. Yeah, we're gonna be gonna bring out the immaturity in me like, that. I'm not equipped for this.
Ethan
But I do agree with Rose. Like, I thought the acting. Yeah, I agree with you, Dave. Like, there was not a point where I was ever like. Like, maybe like when they're dancing and singing a little bit, it was kind of cringy, but, like. Because I'm not like a big musical guy or anything. But I thought overall, like, it was pretty solid.
David
And.
Ethan
And it was. It didn't. It didn't really ever make me cringe at one point. Like, neither.
Rosie
I would do what she did with the singing. I would.
Ethan
Yeah, the singing scene was cute.
Roy Balmy
Dancing around with a singing was cute.
Ethan
Yeah.
David
Yeah, of course I would.
Rosie
I did it in the Pandemic. Come on.
Roy Balmy
Also. Also, I was a bit confused by this. She seems to be in on the janitorial staff, but why is she in the locker room cleaning up the towels in this situation?
David
She's like a team manager.
Ethan
Yeah. I think she's like an arena manager. So she, like, works the concession. She does the. She cleans everything up.
Rosie
So as you understand the main. Okay, the two main characters, Garrett, he's a. He's a player and he's gonna. Well, I don't know if they already mentioned where he's gonna go.
Ethan
And.
David
Yeah, they've talked about the Boston Bruins. They've talked about how his dad is
Roy Balmy
like one of the NHL network. By the way, nice little.
David
Yeah, right.
Rosie
There you go. Then you have Hannah. But Hannah, she has an scholarship, but there. Yeah, but she needs to work three jobs. And one of the jobs, it is to be like, there. The other one is cleaning, and the
Ethan
other one is the bar Malone.
Roy Balmy
He performs Malone's.
Ethan
I believe Malone's is the name of the bar.
Roy Balmy
Yeah.
Ethan
Looks like a fun. But I would hang out at Malone's. That place looked fun.
Roy Balmy
Karaoke.
Ethan
Wait, hold on. Can I say that the biggest critique I had of this show is the house that they all live in is the nicest college house you'll ever see in your entire life. That is not what a dude's house in college looked like. Okay? I live in the Northeast. I lived in a dude house in college. My house did not look like that. I did not know any dudes that lived in a house that looked that nice. That was not. That was my biggest critique of the show. They got to make the house a little more rundown.
David
They tried to make it into a hockey house because they're all the showers clogged with the. With the condom pristine.
Roy Balmy
Oh, by the way, that's the other thing. What the hell are you over here carrying a used condom with a bare hand for?
David
Well, because he just pulled it out of the shower so he didn't know
Ethan
it was going to be down there. He was cleaning out the pipe.
Brad Williams
Use gloves.
David
They're clean. This is. That's playing into the guy trope that
Ethan
I was going to say. That would be like, the most guy thing about that is cleaning without using.
David
What really would have happened is he would have thrown it at whoever he thought it belonged to. That's the first thing. Like, you would have walked up behind him, smacked him across the face with it, and say, please don't pick up after yourself.
Roy Balmy
Okay, the hockey aspect of the show.
Rosie
No, wait, before the hockey aspect, because so people know what happens is she has good grades. He doesn't. He wants her to tutor him, and she has a crush on a musician. So pretty much they do a deal to pretend that they're hooking up. So that's the premises.
Roy Balmy
It is.
Ethan
It is a new interesting premise that I'm excited to see because I can listen. I watched like, the, like, coming up in the, you know, what's next on off campus or whatever, and I could basically tell you what's going to happen from seeing that or at least what I expect is going to happen, which is these two are going to fall in love. They're going to have a hard time actually, you know, the. The guy she's crushing on is going to start wanting to have her and she's going to have a hard time leaving the guy. And the guy, Graham Garrett's gonna have a.
David
Whatever.
Ethan
It's gonna be a lot of. I'm not ruining the whole thing. I'm just predicting what I expect will happen because. Yeah, romance. Romance. Shows and movies tend to be very predictable.
Roy Balmy
All right, the hockey aspect of this show was not good. Explain why. Dave.
David
Okay, so he's supposedly like, he's a draft pick of the Bruins. He's their best player by far. He's their new captain, even though he's just a junior. I see. I'm paying attention, Rose. But then he goes out there and he has like the most mental soft game I've ever seen from anyone first period. But that's the thing. If he's that temperamental, he can go from like, he lost two face offs, he's throwing F bombs around, he's freaking out, he's missing one timers by five feet. And then he goes off the ice and he takes a walk. I don't know what the hell that is. You just leave the locker room, you walk to a randomly quiet part of the arena. You see that, look how pissed off he was in the first period. Like that. Like, what is it? But then he comes back after seeing a little musical performance and he's Connor McDavid.
Ethan
I thought that was cute. I thought it was cute. He kind of like, you know, he had been angry because of. Spoiler alert again, if you're watching this, you were assume there are going to be spoilers. So spoiler alert. He's upset that his dad came to visit and told him something that pissed him off right before the game. And he is having a hard time with that. But then he sees this girl living her life so free, freely, just enjoying herself and he's like, oh, that's that love for hockey that I have. I need to just let myself enjoy the game. And he goes out and they ball out and win big time.
Rosie
Vulnerability. And you know what, the shots are very cinematic. So I don't know why.
David
So you remember when, when that video came out, the Amazon prime video of Connor McDavid screaming his head off in the locker room because he was so pissed off. If he would have just taken. Instead of getting all pissed, just take
Ethan
a walk about the janitor girl dancing around changed on a dime.
David
Like could have changed the whole series. Chris Knobloch would still have a job.
Roy Balmy
All right, we want to thank you. Thank everybody who joined us to watch the Wild Avalanche game for game five during our Stanley cup playoff watch along. That was nice, everybody. I hope in time a great game and elimination game.
David
And a fast overtime.
Roy Balmy
And a fast, fast overtime. There was an elimination. Our next hockey show watch along will be Wednesday, May 20, game one of the Western Conference final between the Avalanche and the Golden Knights. So please join us as we watch the beginning of who will join us.
David
Who won, right?
Roy Balmy
Yeah, I mean her hands up. I'm over here distracted by who will join whoever wins in the Eastern Conference for the Stanley cup final. Go ahead, Rosie.
Rosie
And this was episode one. Prepare for episode two and prepare because there's gonna be a scene that I'm gonna replay and replay for you guys.
Roy Balmy
Oh, great. I'm looking forward to that.
David
I'm looking forward to this element of watching. I don't, you know, the show me getting annoyed. Well, yeah, I feel like the communal conversation about it experiences that could be fun.
Rosie
But hey, people are gonna love your. Your your thoughts on the show.
David
We're certainly gonna be analyzing the hockey elements. Just watch the hockey.
Roy Balmy
If nothing else, that would mean I would have to watch the episode.
David
Fast forward you get to the hot.
Ethan
Yeah.
Rosie
Watch the episode and the the difference between this one here Reverie. I know here rivalry. Both their worlds are hockey. So it's a little bit more hockey here. It's just one of them is the world. But you see some hockey.
Roy Balmy
Okay.
Rosie
Okay. See you for the season. Episode two.
Roy Balmy
That's great. Remember to subscribe to the Hockey show on YouTube at the Hockey Show DLS. We are on TikTok at the Hockey Show 7 and on X Instagram and threads at the Hockey show dls. A must-listen for anyone following the NHL’s turbulent offseason and wild playoff run, this episode delivers clever, sharp hockey analysis and trademark banter. The show moves fluidly from franchise turmoil in Toronto and Edmonton (both firing coaches and scrambling to pacify stars) to dissecting the nuances of the current playoff field, and the state of the media-player relationship in the postgame heat. Wins and fails deliver both serious and light fare (from Matheson’s sportsmanship and PHWA trivia to the farcical ESPN name fail). Brad Williams’s interview is a delightful look into Ducks fandom, hockey culture, and finding joy—both deep and goofy—as a nontraditional market fan, capped with wisecracks about celebrity cachet in sports. The “Off Campus” discussion (and light ribbing) rounds out the show for fans craving pop-culture takes with their hockey.
