I have now finally, exhaustedly and on behalf of our show, all of Miami and Heat fans everywhere arrived at great, great remorse at how diligently and zealously we have covered this Jimmy Butler story. Because while Jeremy was super fascinated by every last detail, Stugot and Greg Cody totally checked out on that conversation. They were tired of Chris Haynes, Chris Haynes's notes. They were tired of Jimmy Butler talk of any kind. They wanted that segment to not be 20 minutes shorter. They wanted it to be 35 minutes shorter.
Billy Gill
I saw Stugatz light up only one time during it and it was Hanes briefly.
Stugotz
That's it. I mean, Jesus Christ. Enough about Jimmy Butler. He does not deserve the attention this show is giving him.
Jeremy
Yeah, yeah, there was a little Butler fatigue there. It sort of went on and on and on.
Billy Gill
I could have asked 15 more questions, Greg. There was so much meat left on that bone. There's so much to the story, it's boring.
Jeremy
I feel like the bone has been picked pretty clear.
Stugotz
I mean, this is a 2018 team and a guy who hasn't played more than 64 regular season games in any season down here with the Heat. I'm tired of hearing about what Jimmy Butler is upset about and what he does appreciate. I don't want to. And I'm tired of the Heat, by the way, too. And what they're doing. I'm tired of the story. It doesn't deserve our attention. No one cares.
Billy Gill
It's like the fourth time through this too, right? With him. It's like it's always the same. Everybody knew this was going to happen. And then, no, no, no. He cultured. We're going to change him. We're going to change Jimmy.
Stugotz
Yeah.
Billy Gill
And then you go and you piss off every team around the league and you try to strong. We're going to get Damian Lillard for absolutely nothing. Like, no, the F you're not. We're going to trade him anywhere but Miami. And then you're convinced you know, because you've been going around just sweeping up superstars all this time and now you're shocked that someone wants to do it to your superstar because it's going the exact same way. And now, now what you've always benefited from is happening to you and you don't like it. And now you're trying to think you're going to hold some other team hostage and get rid of this malcontent and somehow benefit your team. And that's not the way this works whatsoever. So you suspend him and he's going to come back and he's making his TikTok videos where he's like, you know what? Bosses should be more supportive, not so critical. And he's taking all these veiled shots and we somehow think that when he comes back from suspension, things are going to be magically cured when they don't trade him at the deadline because they want a king's ransom for Jimmy Butler, which they're not going to get.
Jeremy
Do we think that, though? Do we think things are going to be magically.
Billy Gill
No, no. That's what they're trying. That's talking about. It's the spin the heat culture. It's not interesting.
Dan Le Batard
You guys can always be sucked right back.
Billy Gill
That's the whole story. 35 seconds, we're done. We don't need to talk about it ever again.
Dan Le Batard
Why is there such a big difference, Jeremy? I was looking at Jeremy's face, okay? And whatever it is, that is the exotic club equivalent of money raining from the sky because everyone is having the best of nude parties. The look on Jeremy's face was. Please give me more information about what Jimmy's upset by, why he's upset, who's upset, whom in this Ego Pride festival. You guys are telling me you're tired of this story. I thought the juicy details of whatever it was, was a breakup, was the permission we're giving ourselves at every turn to be interested in. Do you want to talk about Cade Cunningham or do you want to talk about how it's all screwed up with Zion and he's going to be available to someone soon because the moment Jimmy Butler gets traded to Phoenix, we're going to be having a conversation about whether they're actually good enough to win the West.
Stugotz
We will not have that conversation. They're not good enough to win the West. Get out of here. What are you crazy? A 30 year old Jimmy Butler with a 37 year old Kevin Durant and I wouldn't have anything?
Dan Le Batard
As soon as that trade gets made, will they Become favorites in the West. No, because OKC exists. But people will fall in love with three big names. Winning now, trying to win now. That is something that will. You're not going to tell me that that's not interesting to people? Like, that's the interesting place for him to end up. It's exactly the kind of team that would take him on somebody. This is what he was supposed to do in Philadelphia, but it was Embiid's team, and it was Ben Simmons, his team, and he had to play the role, the third guy, and he did it great. And they lost to Kawhi Leonard by a shot. And it was closer than Embiid would ever get. He'd be going there to be the third guy.
Stugotz
I'd be interested if they were doing this ten years ago. Well, I mean, Durant's 36, Jimmy's 36. I mean, Booker's young. That's great. But he's just one, so.
Dan Le Batard
All right, so forgive me, then I will go somewhere else conversationally. If you're indeed tired of Jimmy Butler.
Stugotz
Back to the Pistons.
Dan Le Batard
No, not the Pistons. Although we could have.
Stugotz
Detroit cares this much about the Pistons.
Dan Le Batard
We could have talked about the Pistons for a while. That was a fun game. You don't want to talk about it because your Knicks are at the center of hope again. This is their best team in a long time, and at home, they got slayed by the Detroit Pistons. But the thing I wanted to ask you that I got away from early in the show is Tony's expecting a hero's return from paternity leave because he's had a child. And I thought we were going to celebrate that as a show because I think he wants a celebration of having a child. And Billy doesn't want to celebrate.
Billy Gill
He'd rather talk about the Pistons of Jimmy Butler than Tony, to be honest. Tony, here's a behind the bit, and I don't think you guys are aware of this. So, Tony, this is behind the bit.
Stugotz
Let's be clear real quick. Tony didn't have a child. I mean, he did technically, but he didn't do any of the whole.
Billy Gill
He now has a child, but he didn't have the child. I don't know if that was a necessary correction.
Stugotz
Well, it is. I mean, it always is.
Billy Gill
I think someone thought he pushed out a child. Give some credit to his wife.
Jeremy
Yeah, he's got the wife, not Tony.
Billy Gill
Yeah, you want. You want a little behind the bit. So when we had the 24 hour marathon, I think we've told this story already. When we had the 24 hour marathon, it was Tony's like, debut and he made this entire bit where he bought a Ric Flair costume and a robe and he had this feathery. I love him wig and he wanted, he like, talked to, like, all of his, you know, people that are here and there's. He wanted this big unveiling of Tony is now part of Metal Arc media on the 24 Hour Marathon. I'm like, bud, this isn't a Tony a thon. Like, this is. This is, you know, a 24 hour marathon. No one cares. So, like the big returns is something Tony seems to really want at some point in time. And I, I. Did he say he wanted one for this? Is that what's going on?
Dan Le Batard
No, no, no. He hasn't said. He did say he wanted one for freedom, that he, he requested all of that. The feather boa, the big introduction. I'm gonna make the magical jump from producer to star talent that was missed by Metal Arc and, and Bomani. Did we get that sound? Did we wrestle that away from espn? I think we did. The who the hell is Tony from? Bomani Jones was some legendary sound. Thinks he's something around here that he's not quite yet. But the way for him to become that is to hustle his way into MMA shows and have the audience caring about when he or his wife have a kid. Because St. Gods is correct. He didn't do much of anything.
Billy Gill
They don't. We're going to be honest. They don't. The audience doesn't care if that.
Dan Le Batard
You don't think that Tony, which is a big party.
Billy Gill
No, no, I know that. I'm telling you, the audience doesn't care about Tony or his kid.
Dan Le Batard
Well.
Stugotz
Or the Pistons.
Billy Gill
Or the Pistons. Or Jimmy, while we're at it. Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
Greg, you had a great show today.
Jeremy
First two hours, the last hour and a half.
Dan Le Batard
Well, that's okay. You did two.
Stugotz
Now you give us two good hours every Tuesday. We're good, right?
Dan Le Batard
Yes.
Jeremy
There you go.
Dan Le Batard
For the rest of time. We will sign up for that.
Jeremy
Yeah. It's good you didn't have the Jimmy Buffett segment first. Because I might have got Jimmy Buffett.
Stugotz
Yeah. $2.
Jeremy
I always say that.
Billy Gill
Who do you think's more connected to the Heat, Jimmy Buffett or Jimmy Butler?
Jeremy
Wow.
Billy Gill
I would say this. I think, I think that the Heat would retire something for Jimmy Buffett before they would retire something for Jimmy Butler. I think as things presently stand.
Jeremy
You kidding me? Like Jimmy Butler's jersey is ever going to go up on the rafters? I don't think so. Come on. No way.
Billy Gill
Who the hell is Tony?
