But that gets us to our Thursday Thunder, brought to you by DraftKings and Jujugatti, who put this beautiful parlay together. First leg, we're going to the main event. Dustin Poirier to win against Max Holloway. Dan. Dustin Poirier. You like Dustin.
Host 3
Old warriors, the both of them, huh?
Host 2
Last dance for the diamond. You think he gets it done?
Host 4
I don't know. I always fear Holloway.
Host 2
I know.
Host 4
He's so old, though.
Host 2
But Dustin looked good against Benoit St. Denis. Maybe have one last dancer. All right, second leg, Kevin Holland to win over Daniel Rodriguez. And Superman. Ryan Spann to beat Brzecki. Brzezeski.
Host 4
Okay, that's a tough one. No, it's a tough one.
Host 2
Brze. There's no. There's no vowel. Yeah, there's no vowel. There's Brzeski. Yeah, Brzeski.
Host 1
It is.
Host 4
The Brz. Makes it tough.
Host 2
Anyways.
Host 4
Span to win.
Host 2
Span to win. Superman. Ryan. Span to win. Kevin Holland to win. And Dustin the Diamond Poirier in his last dance at home brought a UFC event to New Orleans to Louisiana. Shout out to Dustin Poirier. Let's see if he gets gets a W over Max Holloway.
Host 4
I heard that you mentioned Superman. It allows me to play this Mike Francesa sound of Superman and ask Mike Ryan if he has actually seen Superman yet and what kind of reviews Superman is getting. I don't know whether the rest of you are interested in this. I couldn't be any less interested in it. But let's just play the Francesa sound. He broke it down perfectly.
Host 5
I thought, there's a super dog who came up with a super dog. I mean, we all like dogs, okay? And I didn't like the dog getting beat on in the movie. It bothered me. But hey, who came up with a dog with a cape? When did that arrive? I watched Superman for years on television. I never saw a dog with a cape.
Host 4
It's a good analysis.
Host 2
He's right.
Host 3
I watched it last night. That dog with the cape is the cheat code because this is not a super relatable character. He's an all powerful being. And that's usually been the downfall of Warner Brothers continually trying to reboot this franchise. Audiences just want more complicated heroes. But I gotta say, James Gunn found a way to make Superman more complicated. I'm not going to give away, but there is something that is routine to his origin story that they change here to allow the audience to find a connection point with him and his relationship with his parents. I think the dog was a really smart maneuver here.
Host 5
Who came up with a dog with a cape.
Host 3
And he plays the actor that they hired. Plays this in a very likable way. And I think given what's in the news stream, and I know Superman's been politicized, but let's make an analogy to Ted Lasso where Ted Lasso came along at a time where people didn't really know that they needed something that was positive. A character that displays so much empathy. I think people are really gravitating to that. And I had a really great time at super. At Superman and I am not a Superman guy. Just never did it for me. I like the. The heroes with an edge to them. I'm more of a Batman guy. But this was so well done. It's by far including the Christopher Reeve movies. And there's a nice little tip of the hat to Christopher Reeve's legacy. With his son in this movie that people have picked up on. But I think this is the best Superman movie ever made. And I loved it. And I can't wait to see more of that character.
Host 4
Not my area of expertise, but I noticed in Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy, the kind of writing that made superheroes more flawed. Where did that start? Is there now? I know the old comic books and stuff would be.
Host 3
Well, with Deadpool, it was baked into it. Guardians of the Galaxy was this filmmaker, James Gunn, who D and Warner Brothers turned to. To once again reboot their failed DC universe. And they loved the tone of Guardians of the Galaxy. I think James Gunn nailed that for characters that weren't as beloved. And now he gets to do it with, quite literally the most famous superhero there is. And he put his magic dust on it. Finds the connection points with music that you can relate to. People can relate to dogs. He found ways to get people emotionally invested in a character that's usually been displayed or without emotion, who came up.
Host 5
With a super dog.
Host 4
So you mentioned emotional investment. I was surprised to see the amount of emotion that Billy was putting into the investment of getting pissed off at the Emmys or getting pissed.
Host 1
Annoyed. Pissed off annoyed. I like the way I'm presented as this person who's just angry at the world.
Host 4
Well, you correct me each time. So you're not being presented that way without correction.
Host 1
Well, I mean, it's an annoyance. Emmy's need to. They just. They don't want to make a decision on anything. Every category has, like, multiple people nominated from the same shows.
Host 5
Yeah.
Host 1
I feel like if you're an Outstanding supporting actress in a drama series, pick one per show. Not four from the White Lotus or five. Five from the White Lotus. I'm sorry, I misspoke. Five White Lotus actresses nominated in the same category. Then there's like, Best Cameo, which isn't what it's called, but it's like, it's basically best Cameo, Outstanding guest actor in a comedy series. There's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. There's seven nominees. Six of them are from the studio.
Host 3
Well deserved.
Host 1
You just want to give the studio an Emmy. You just want to say the studio won 17 Emmys. So what you start doing is you just nominate them eight times per category. So someone's got to win it in there. Well, we gotta pick one per category. Why do we keep doing this?
Host 3
I think we have a 4 in 5 chance of someone thanking Saul Saperstein at the Emmys, which is really all we want. But also, it's baked into the fabric of the show where they have these cameos in there, where most of the competition in terms of comedy series don't have that built into the fabric of their show.
Host 1
Easy Way Out. Also, the White Lotus. Everyone said this was a bad season of a white lotus. They're nominated in every single category and have like three nominees per category. Like, which one was it? Was it a bad show or they award winning? The white. Like, why is everyone kissing Mike White's ass?
Host 3
Well, maybe the tides are the voters.
Host 1
Trying to get, like, rolls. And guess what, Buddies, he's on Survivor right now. He's not watching the Emmys unless he gets eliminated. I thought he's a backup quarterback.
Host 2
Yeah. Where is he?
Host 1
He's here.
Host 4
Is he still here?
Host 5
Oh, no.
Host 1
He went to Buffalo. That's right. And that's why the Dolphins couldn't beat the Bills.
Host 3
I messed it up.
Host 5
We're both in Buffalo.
Host 4
That's clearly. That is my good. That's my. I'm clearly. Am I talking to Mike Lennon's neck? Who am I talking to right now?
Host 2
Leave me be.
