First of all, before we get to just how you and your son, how do you guys answer the phone depending on who's calling you? Because I have a different. I have a lot of ways. If it's like a number, I don't know, it's hello. Because I don't want them to like know in Case I need to pretend I'm not me. I need a hello.

This is a good question because a lot you know. Now that you have everyone's number stored in your phone and you see the name pop up, it's kind of weird if you just say, you know, the regular hello, as if you don't know who's on the other line.

Yeah. I mean, I think that you greet them the same way you would in person because it's as if you're seeing their face because you know who they are. I think the interesting thing that you brought up is you answer numbers you don't know, and I do, too, sometimes. But the question is, what. What are the ones? How do you answer? How do you decide which ones you're

I feel like. And this is maybe just a weird thing about me is I feel like based on the number, if it doesn't say scam likely or it doesn't say spam risk, it doesn't say unlikely. For me, I feel like I can look at the number and know whether it's a real person calling or a real business calling or it's a scam based on the numbers, which I don't really know what I'm looking for. I think it's like a local area code. Follow a local area code. Yeah. You get my interest. And if the final numbers aren't like some good combination, when it's a good combination of numbers, it looks too clean.

What's good combination? 1, 2, 3, 4.

[Dominique Foxworth]

No, not 1, 2, 3, 4. Like if it was two zeros in it or something. You know where it looks like it's 2200, right? Yeah, it's like, hey, it's the right area code. So I live in D.C. so it's 202, then it's three numbers and then it's like 2020. Nah, even if it don't say scam likely, I like, I know what you're up to.

So for professional phone calls, you know, got a meeting with somebody, someone calls. Hey, name. Whatever their name is.

Yeah, but why are they calling? Send the text. I know that I'm wrong in that, like, that's the wrong way to feel, but generally I've gotten better at this. Like my, my producer and co host Charlie, he calls me a lot and he don't have a reason. Like a caller, he don't have a reason for call. He just wants to talk. And I've come to really appreciate it, but every time the phone rings, I'm surprised because he don'. It's just like, hey, how you doing? And I, like, lose touch with friends because I don't call them. So I recognize it, I appreciate it. I try to do this more and I do it in the worst way possible where I put in my calendar, call my homie Brandon.

And I called my homie Brandon. And I'm like, hey, what's up? How you been? Now it's like a meeting.

I know.

I hate it about Myself, but otherwise, men really suck at that.

Same experience. If you're home. Yeah. And someone knocks on your door. When you're growing up and someone knocks on your door, rings doorbell. This is a very exciting thing that's taken place.

I did, actually. I want to ask this question here, and don't take offense to it. Are you too good of a father? Zaz? Because you are constantly referencing. I did this with my son. I called my son. It's just like, if it's possible, you might be too good of a father.

Here's the thing. I'm totally self aware.

Or you need friends.

I'm totally self aware when it comes to stuff like this. You could say that I'm a really good father. I do all these things. I take my boys this. You know, we do all that. But there's also a huge element to all these things that I do where I'm doing the things that I want to do. And I'm lucky that either both my boys, or especially my younger son is really into the things that I like to do. So it's kind of childish wrestling. Yeah, right, right. It's. It's somewhat childish behavior on my part.

[Dominique Foxworth]

Do you recognize specific things in either of your sons that's like, this is definitely me, or this is definitely their mother? Or is there one of the sons that you're like, yeah, that one's me. This one isn't necessarily me. Like, you see yourself in them, in behaviors and actions, in the way that they carry themselves?

[Chris Cody]

Yes, yes. Oh, my God. The older one, for sure. The older one is. Is super moody. You know, he's at that age. Course. So he's super moody around the house. But he's also the kid who. Outside the house. All the parents, the mothers, they love him. And so we get the whole, oh, your son was at our house the other day. He's so good. Like, really? That kid, you know, like. Like that. That was me growing up. I was. I was so moody around my parents, and when they would get compliments from the other parents about me and my personality and, like, are you talking about our son? You know, so, yeah, I get that.

[Dominique Foxworth]

We have it pretty easy in my house because my wife and I are, like, so very different. Like, my is very smart. Like, books and all that stuff comes very easily to her. And I was a good athlete. She didn't play sports, so it's pretty obvious. It's like when the kid, like, stumbles and instead of falls down, does like, a pirouette and lays like, that's my girl. And then when she brings home straight A's, I'm like, all right, I see you. All right, there you go. You contributed. Good play. Good play, mom. Good play. That's on you.

So I'm totally self aware where it looks like I'm a really good father, but I'm. I'm just doing shit that I want to do, and I have someone to do it with who also enjoys it.

That's good advice, though. I'm gonna try to do that.

You know, I mean, you. You started taking your daughter to wrestling, right?

And my. My daughter, she's, like, into watching sports with me and stuff. Every sporting event, she's like, who are we rooting for? And most of the time, I'm like, we don't care about this one, but she needs a rooting interest. Well, you got every.

You got to teach her how to gamble.

So I want to talk about Giannis here, but specifically, I want to talk about Giannis and some of the reaction out there. And what I mean by that is people are very quick. This Trade only happened 48 hours ago, and you got a lot of commentary out there where people are very quick to know exactly how this is going to play out. And so it brings us to our very first edition of Fast take.

I have been. And the music is not nearly this good.

Okay, well, this isn't first take. This is fast take where you can't let any time go by. There is no waiting. It doesn't matter if you're right or if you're wrong. The thing happens and you got to get out there immediate. Not even first like first take. You got to get out there with the fast take. And so our very first host of fast take is the one and only Nick Wright.

Teams that right now I expect to be better in next year's regular season than Miami. Just in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks, the Celtics, more on them in a minute. The Pistons and the Cavs. That's four teams I expect to be better than them in the regular season now, the Pistons and the Cavs. I don't have a lot of faith for them in the postseason as and we'll see what moves they make. But that does not teams that should be eye to eye with the Heat, the Hawks, who were awesome post Trey Young trade the Pacers, assuming Halliburton comes back as anything like the Halliburton we're used to. And while they're bummed they don't have their draft pick, they do have Zubots.

[Chris Cody]

Well, I mean, how are you supposed to compete with that? They do have Zubots, but we, we are less than two days removed from the Miami Heat acquiring a superstar. All right, top 34 player in the league, however you want to put it. Free agency hasn't even begun. Literally, free agency has not even started. Nick Wright already knows he's already mapped out because he gave the top four, Boston, New York, Cleveland, Detroit, and then gave us the other teams that are on the level of Miami, including Atlanta and Indiana. So within two days of the trade happening, free agency hasn't even started yet. Nick Wright knows the top seven seeds in the Eastern Conference next year, and

he also gave room for those teams to get better. So implicit in that is that the Heat might also get better.

[Chris Cody]

I didn't get that impression from other it seems like other teams can improve. You know, remember because free he hasn't started yet. Other teams can improve, but the Heat, they're locked.

[Tony Reali]

Yeah, the Heat are going to stay with seven people on the roster. They're not going to get any better whatsoever. So I, I on Monday, when we were talking about the situation prior to the actual trade happening, there was already a lot of chatter with Nick Wright. And on Monday I said he's disclosed from being banned from the program.

So where do I expect the Heat to be next year? No better than fifth and no worse than seventh in the East. Winning a round, certainly possible. Winning two rounds, very unlikely. Winning three rounds, I would be utterly stunned. And winning four rounds, not possible.

The trade just happened. Nick has the Heat either the fifth, sixth, or seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. He has all seven the seeds laid out and is already predicting what the first, second, and third round of the playoffs look like, Even though the finals from this past season just ended. He's fast.

So, yeah, I have the faith that this organization knows how to put pieces around them in order to compete at a very high level. And in today's NBA, where for the first time in league history, you have real parody. Eight consecutive unique champions in this league and the Heat now have a top three or four player in the world. So how can you say that they don't have a chance based on what we've seen this decade?

I think he's talking about the. A lot of that. He's talking about the regular season. I don't think it's crazy to say that the four teams of Boston, the Knicks, Detroit and Cleveland.

That makes you feel bad. You feel bad that he was traded to Miami? Nick Wright feels bad that he was traded to Miami.

But I think they went from having like a 1% chance of winning the championship to like a 30%.

It's just Nick came in through the back door, you came in through the front door. You're like, I'm so exc. We got a chance. We're like the sixth or seventh best team. Nick's like, hey, this trade didn't make them good. They're like the sixth or seventh best team. Like we're all at the same spot.

They're in the game. They're in the game. And in today's NBA, that's all you can ask for. And if the Heat get to a playoff series and you have to go up against Giannis and Bam Adebayo and Eric Spoelstra in a seven game series, my team's got a chance now. My team got a chance.

The scariest part I think is the point I was trying to make yesterday is they have to be able to find someone to close games. And in my mind, I always imagine a super talented, top of the league type of player to do that. They're not going to be able to get one of those guys. So the question is, and we see again, proof of concept, proof of concept because Milwaukee's done it before where they had that wing perimeter player who wasn't like top of the league type of talent. It's finding someone that can do that. That's the hard part. When that gets, when that part happens and then you have the discount rate of the injury stuff or aging guy. But when that happens, it changes. Everything changes about this team. The perspective and the like trajectory of this team changes. If they can do that.

So every year I get suckered into believing that there's gonna be just a million transactions. And I don't mean transacts like trading the picks where you're putting on the wrong hat. The NFL gets it right. The NFL, they trade picks. Every, every few picks a pick is being traded. They manage to put the right hat on the player. The NBA can't get it right. I don't get. I don't get it. The NFL, why do they know how to do it? Why can you make a trade in the NFL and everybody agrees to the trade and they do the right hat and the NBA can't do it.

[Dominique Foxworth]

I mean, I think this is. A lot of people point to the NBA and make the joke that they are a league run by lawyers. It's. It's not just a joke, but it's factual. But I think that that's part of it is like, no, he's not actually on that team yet. But I think most of us are like, well, what's most likely going to Happen he's going to be on that team. And the off chance, the 3% chance that he ends up not, the trade not going through, then that's the one time they'll be in the wrong hat. Now we go about it in a way that 98.9% of the time we put him in the wrong hat knowing it's going to be the wrong hat. It's very confusing. It's not a huge deal, but it's just weird because we all know the truth. Why are we pretending to.

I. There. There were. Overall, I was kind of bored with the draft last night and maybe because, like, there weren't any big trades with current players and it was kind of chalky the first, you know, four or five picks or whatever.

So some of them, it's like they don't really have anything to say, but when it's good and they're showing the emotion, I love that so much. Like. Like when Yaxo Landenberg was up there with his mother, who apparently is battling cancer right now. When Yaxol Landenberg is up there, he is hysterical crying, sitting on that couch there. I love it so much. I love when they get emotional.

The triumph, like that particular moment for those guys reaching a dream along with their parents is very good. I think they do that living room set with everyone and it's the same questions. And most of the time you're getting like, eh, I Work really hard. Happy to be here.

But when it's good, it's good.

It's worth it for the risk. But for the most part, I think I'm like, so is he gonna be good on his team? Somebody tell me how this is gonna work out. I don't really care unless it's a great story that they already know about. But they also do the thing where I saw towards the end of the draft, they bring the parents to the couch, they give them microphones, and then they don't ask them any questions. And I'm.

I always felt bad for, like, the mother or the sister who didn't get to talk. And she was just holding the mic the whole time, Right?

[Dominique Foxworth]

Just hold it a flat. Yeah.

And there were a few times where the mother and father were sitting there, and Lisa was like, you said that this is a good moment between you and your father. Like, you two. This is our moment. And the mom is just sitting there. It's like, can you. It should be all of our moments.

Don't worry.

I'm feeling bad for the mom now because you're positioning it like it's their moment.

And most of the time, the parents, like, echo the question. So Lisa's like, I heard that this was really important moment. You work really hard together. They give the microphone. We've been working for this moment for a really long time. It's a really good moment for us.

Well, and there was one where the father explained everything about his son and what makes him great. And then Lisa Salters asked the mother, and she goes, everything he said.

That most of those things, I honestly think are, like, a kind of a waste.

I do, like, all the family stuff. I. I dig it when they're emotional. I mean, I. I forget whose mother was crying. One of the mothers. She didn't get up to the couch. She stayed back at the table because I think maybe he went with his siblings. And she was so emotional. She's hysterical, crying back at the table. I love that. That's. That's my favorite part.

You mentioned the Yaxel pick. Did you guys see the Little Joe Lake of Mike Dunley v. The Internet? Like, are they upset? Are they fighting over who they're taking now? They're claiming that in this little like, interaction that got caught by the Internet, that they were just. It was a time thing. Joe lacob's like, make the pick now. And Mike Dunleavy's like, we got five minutes. And. But a lot. The Internet was thinking that they were arguing over who to pick. They have since, you know, put those flames out. But Joe, like, come on. I just feel like it's a bad look for the owner if you gotta at least be sitting down. You gotta know the optics. You gotta know there's a camera there. Like.

Yeah, I mean, they know it's a camera there. And you got to be the one making the call. It feels like whoever's making the call, it's the power player. Even though we know it's not true.

That team has never really had a player like that. That, that high. Super high talent, super high value prospect on the wing. Like the most important player on the Floor. It feels like there's some optimism. And we also got Trey. I like Trey, man. Trey's a good pass.

I like Trey Young, too, but there's. I gave him $250 million or 212. $212 million. Four years. 212. So we're talking what, $53 million a season. I did that quick. Matt didn't even have my abacus with me. And I did in my head, that's $53 million a season for Trey Young. And like, I get it. Like, you're saying how. All right, at least we got something to watch now. You got like, Trey Young's an exciting player, but I just.

They. I mean, they have to get over the minimum like that. That matters to 90% of the cap. And they have a. A team that's full of young first contract players in Trey. I think you probably. Of course, it wasn't a huge market for it, but I am never going to argue against a guy getting paid, especially a guy who I think could be valuable in the right situation. They have like, long wings that can help him out defensively. And I think his passing ability. The one question mark is like, he's. He gives off great shooter, but his great shooting numbers have never quite shown up. I think the ball dominance could be a concern. AJ Is gonna. Needs the ball a little bit more. But I. I mean, I think it's interesting, exciting. And you got to take into account Miami or Washington. Isn't Miami. Like, we haven't been in it all the time. This feels like something like we. I'm excited.

It used to all just be one night. Round one in round two. And this is the third year they're doing this. If you remember the first year they did round two, which, look, it's not like the NFL. You pick a player in round two, you want, that guy's gonna be a starter on your team. If you made a good pick in the NBA round two, half those guys aren't even gonna be in the league. All right? And three years ago, the very first time, they did a separate day for round two. Why was that? Because Bronnie was about to be drafted, so they had its own day. Because they'll never admit it, but no, it was because Bronnie is going to be trapped. So round two is going to get its own day. I feel like after this year, we could pull the plug on that. Like, you want to do a couple more years so you can kind of feign the idea that, no, no, nothing to do with Bronnie. You see, we're still doing it. Round two's got its own day. I feel like after this year, it's like, all right, we, like, we've seen enough. Just one day.
