For this episode of the Dan LeBatard show is sponsored by Giraffe Kings. Giraffe Kings. The crown is yours.
Tony Reali
I like that one.
Dan Le Batard
Thank you. Yeah, it was good.
Tony Reali
One of those guys at the auction that kind of do the the auction bit.
Dan Le Batard
Jazz made a face like he smelled a fart.
Chris Cody
Yeah, I'm sure everyone's going to enjoy that. Chris, you have some some observations from the local hour?
Dan Le Batard
Yes. You referenced in there out of nowhere you were like my, my 17 year old son called me and I was just like how do you. How do you. First of all, before we get to just how you and your son, how do you guys answer the phone depending on who's calling you? Because I have a different. I have a lot of ways. If it's like a number, I don't know, it's hello. Because I don't want them to like know in Case I need to pretend I'm not me. I need a hello.
Chris Cody
This is a good question because a lot you know. Now that you have everyone's number stored in your phone and you see the name pop up, it's kind of weird if you just say, you know, the regular hello, as if you don't know who's on the other line.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah. I mean, I think that you greet them the same way you would in person because it's as if you're seeing their face because you know who they are. I think the interesting thing that you brought up is you answer numbers you don't know, and I do, too, sometimes. But the question is, what. What are the ones? How do you answer? How do you decide which ones you're
Dan Le Batard
going to ask when the scam is unlikely?
Dominique Foxworth
Does it say that for you?
Dan Le Batard
I have a scam likely and a scam unlikely?
Chris Cody
Really?
Nick Wright
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah, for sure.
Chris Cody
Scam unlikely.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah, unlikely.
Dominique Foxworth
That means it could be.
Chris Cody
No, no, I know what it means. That wasn't the part that. That was not the part I was confused about.
Dominique Foxworth
You got an update? My phone. Don't do that.
Chris Cody
I know what the word unlikely means.
Dominique Foxworth
So if it doesn't say scam likely, I assume it means not likely. But you have a setting that actually says, you know what? Real unlikely to scam.
Dan Le Batard
Sometimes I get scam likely, sometimes I get potential spam.
Dominique Foxworth
You know what?
Dan Le Batard
I know I'm looking at it right here. You know what? I'm likely potential scam.
Dominique Foxworth
I think you got a case on your hands. Apple here telling you it's not a scam. What if you get scammed? You need to get a. You need to call up a lawyer and get Apple. They got money.
Chris Cody
Do you get spam risk?
Dan Le Batard
No, I get potential spam, and then I get scam likely and scam unlikely.
Dominique Foxworth
Scam unlikely is absurd. I've never had scam unlikely.
Tony Reali
I got spam risk.
Dominique Foxworth
Spam risk? Yeah, we all get spam risk.
Chris Cody
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
So, yeah, if I happen to. Hello? Because just in case they're like, is this Chris, you owe us a million dollars?
Dominique Foxworth
Nope.
Dan Le Batard
Because I remember I didn't answer, like me.
Dominique Foxworth
I feel like. And this is maybe just a weird thing about me is I feel like based on the number, if it doesn't say scam likely or it doesn't say spam risk, it doesn't say unlikely. For me, I feel like I can look at the number and know whether it's a real person calling or a real business calling or it's a scam based on the numbers, which I don't really know what I'm looking for. I think it's like a local area code. Follow a local area code. Yeah. You get my interest. And if the final numbers aren't like some good combination, when it's a good combination of numbers, it looks too clean.
Chris Cody
What's good combination? 1, 2, 3, 4.
Dominique Foxworth
No, not 1, 2, 3, 4. Like if it was two zeros in it or something. You know where it looks like it's 2200, right? Yeah, it's like, hey, it's the right area code. So I live in D.C. so it's 202, then it's three numbers and then it's like 2020. Nah, even if it don't say scam likely, I like, I know what you're up to.
Dan Le Batard
So for professional phone calls, you know, got a meeting with somebody, someone calls. Hey, name. Whatever their name is.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah. Hey, Bob, right?
Dan Le Batard
Hey, Dan. That's pretty.
Chris Cody
If it's people I know, like my son. Hey.
Dan Le Batard
Just a hey.
Chris Cody
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
My dad goes, hey, boy.
Dominique Foxworth
I hit him with a what up? It's always what up? Or like, if it's family. If it's like immediate family, kids, or my wife, I know that they're only calling for a reason, so it's. We gotta get right to it.
Chris Cody
So you say, what?
Dominique Foxworth
Nah, that sounds rude.
Dan Le Batard
A friend that calls too much. Yo.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, we're all, yeah.
Commercial Announcer
Oh, yeah.
Dan Le Batard
If I get. If I'm instantly like, this person hates me if they answer the phone. Yeah, that's. They hate me.
Chris Cody
They're bothered by you. That's what that means.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, but why are they calling? Send the text. I know that I'm wrong in that, like, that's the wrong way to feel, but generally I've gotten better at this. Like my, my producer and co host Charlie, he calls me a lot and he don't have a reason. Like a caller, he don't have a reason for call. He just wants to talk. And I've come to really appreciate it, but every time the phone rings, I'm surprised because he don'. It's just like, hey, how you doing? And I, like, lose touch with friends because I don't call them. So I recognize it, I appreciate it. I try to do this more and I do it in the worst way possible where I put in my calendar, call my homie Brandon.
Chris Cody
Oh, really?
Dominique Foxworth
And I called my homie Brandon. And I'm like, hey, what's up? How you been? Now it's like a meeting.
Tony Reali
I know.
Dominique Foxworth
I hate it about Myself, but otherwise, men really suck at that.
Chris Cody
It's funny. Sebastian Maniscalco does a good bit on this where. Remember when we were growing up. Okay. You and I, Dominique, are close to the same age, but probably you guys over there as well. Same experience. If you're home. Yeah. And someone knocks on your door. When you're growing up and someone knocks on your door, rings doorbell. This is a very exciting thing that's taken place.
Dan Le Batard
Now I'm hiding.
Chris Cody
And now if someone rings that doorbell or knocks on the door, I mean, everyone looks around and go, what the hell is going on, dude?
Dan Le Batard
If I see it's a salesperson, I am, like, tiptoeing around. If my daughter.
Dominique Foxworth
Shh.
Dan Le Batard
She's like, daddy, you're gonna.
Dominique Foxworth
Shh.
Chris Cody
Yep, yep. He can hear us.
Dan Le Batard
Daddy, the TV's on. It doesn't matter.
Chris Cody
Yep. You got any other observations from the local hour?
Dan Le Batard
I did, actually. I want to ask this question here, and don't take offense to it. Are you too good of a father? Zaz? Because you are constantly referencing. I did this with my son. I called my son. It's just like, if it's possible, you might be too good of a father.
Chris Cody
Here's the thing. I'm totally self aware.
Dan Le Batard
Or you need friends.
Chris Cody
I'm totally self aware when it comes to stuff like this. You could say that I'm a really good father. I do all these things. I take my boys this. You know, we do all that. But there's also a huge element to all these things that I do where I'm doing the things that I want to do. And I'm lucky that either both my boys, or especially my younger son is really into the things that I like to do. So it's kind of childish wrestling. Yeah, right, right. It's. It's somewhat childish behavior on my part.
Dominique Foxworth
Do you recognize specific things in either of your sons that's like, this is definitely me, or this is definitely their mother? Or is there one of the sons that you're like, yeah, that one's me. This one isn't necessarily me. Like, you see yourself in them, in behaviors and actions, in the way that they carry themselves?
Chris Cody
Yes, yes. Oh, my God. The older one, for sure. The older one is. Is super moody. You know, he's at that age. Course. So he's super moody around the house. But he's also the kid who. Outside the house. All the parents, the mothers, they love him. And so we get the whole, oh, your son was at our house the other day. He's so good. Like, really? That kid, you know, like. Like that. That was me growing up. I was. I was so moody around my parents, and when they would get compliments from the other parents about me and my personality and, like, are you talking about our son? You know, so, yeah, I get that.
Dominique Foxworth
We have it pretty easy in my house because my wife and I are, like, so very different. Like, my is very smart. Like, books and all that stuff comes very easily to her. And I was a good athlete. She didn't play sports, so it's pretty obvious. It's like when the kid, like, stumbles and instead of falls down, does like, a pirouette and lays like, that's my girl. And then when she brings home straight A's, I'm like, all right, I see you. All right, there you go. You contributed. Good play. Good play, mom. Good play. That's on you.
Chris Cody
So I'm totally self aware where it looks like I'm a really good father, but I'm. I'm just doing shit that I want to do, and I have someone to do it with who also enjoys it.
Dan Le Batard
That's good advice, though. I'm gonna try to do that.
Chris Cody
You know, I mean, you. You started taking your daughter to wrestling, right?
Dan Le Batard
And my. My daughter, she's, like, into watching sports with me and stuff. Every sporting event, she's like, who are we rooting for? And most of the time, I'm like, we don't care about this one, but she needs a rooting interest. Well, you got every.
Chris Cody
You got to teach her how to gamble.
Dan Le Batard
I'm like, we're rooting for Algeria.
Chris Cody
We got some money on the game here. That's what we root for.
Dan Le Batard
Well, that. She's also. Is that your. When I am complaining about. Is that your bet? I'm like, thank you.
Chris Cody
You're.
Dominique Foxworth
You're running. You're playing a riskier game than Zaz with two sons is like, if you raise girl version of an adult, Cody, like, I mean, no one needs that. It's a different life choice. That's all I'm saying. A little different life choice. That's all.
Chris Cody
So I want to talk about Giannis here, but specifically, I want to talk about Giannis and some of the reaction out there. And what I mean by that is people are very quick. This Trade only happened 48 hours ago, and you got a lot of commentary out there where people are very quick to know exactly how this is going to play out. And so it brings us to our very first edition of Fast take.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast take.
Chris Cody
Fast take.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast take. Fast take.
Chris Cody
That's right. Dominique, you've been on first take before, right?
Dominique Foxworth
I have been. And the music is not nearly this good.
Chris Cody
Okay, well, this isn't first take. This is fast take where you can't let any time go by. There is no waiting. It doesn't matter if you're right or if you're wrong. The thing happens and you got to get out there immediate. Not even first like first take. You got to get out there with the fast take. And so our very first host of fast take is the one and only Nick Wright.
Nick Wright
Teams that right now I expect to be better in next year's regular season than Miami. Just in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks, the Celtics, more on them in a minute. The Pistons and the Cavs. That's four teams I expect to be better than them in the regular season now, the Pistons and the Cavs. I don't have a lot of faith for them in the postseason as and we'll see what moves they make. But that does not teams that should be eye to eye with the Heat, the Hawks, who were awesome post Trey Young trade the Pacers, assuming Halliburton comes back as anything like the Halliburton we're used to. And while they're bummed they don't have their draft pick, they do have Zubots.
Chris Cody
Well, I mean, how are you supposed to compete with that? They do have Zubots, but we, we are less than two days removed from the Miami Heat acquiring a superstar. All right, top 34 player in the league, however you want to put it. Free agency hasn't even begun. Literally, free agency has not even started. Nick Wright already knows he's already mapped out because he gave the top four, Boston, New York, Cleveland, Detroit, and then gave us the other teams that are on the level of Miami, including Atlanta and Indiana. So within two days of the trade happening, free agency hasn't even started yet. Nick Wright knows the top seven seeds in the Eastern Conference next year, and
Dominique Foxworth
he also gave room for those teams to get better. So implicit in that is that the Heat might also get better.
Chris Cody
I didn't get that impression from other it seems like other teams can improve. You know, remember because free he hasn't started yet. Other teams can improve, but the Heat, they're locked.
Tony Reali
Yeah, the Heat are going to stay with seven people on the roster. They're not going to get any better whatsoever. So I, I on Monday, when we were talking about the situation prior to the actual trade happening, there was already a lot of chatter with Nick Wright. And on Monday I said he's disclosed from being banned from the program.
Chris Cody
Fasting.
Dan Le Batard
Yo, hit it again, Roy.
Tony Reali
He's. I think he might be banned from the program.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast take. Oh, fast take. Fast take. Fast take.
Chris Cody
Ah, yes. Once again, today's host of Fast Take, Nick Wright.
Nick Wright
Not writing them off. We'll wait and see. Version teams I don't expect to be as good as the Heat, but I. I can't flatly say have no shot at it. Toronto, Orlando and Philly. So where do I expect the Heat to be next year? No better than fifth and no worse than seventh in the East. Winning a round, certainly possible. Winning two rounds, very unlikely. Winning three rounds, I would be utterly stunned. And winning four rounds, not possible.
Chris Cody
The trade just happened. Nick has the Heat either the fifth, sixth, or seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. He has all seven the seeds laid out and is already predicting what the first, second, and third round of the playoffs look like, Even though the finals from this past season just ended. He's fast.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast take.
Chris Cody
Fast take.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast take. Fast take.
Chris Cody
See? First take. Thought they were onto something, Dominique. Cause they're first. But you got another. Well, we don't let any time go by. We don't let any other transactions happen. Really don't let any other. We let nothing else happen. When the thing takes place, when the big trade happens, you got to map out the entire future, Tony. All of it. That's fast.
Jeremy Schaap
For 22 years on this show, we've debated the greatest athletes of all time. Who's the goat in football? Who's the goat in soccer?
Lisa Salters
Soccer.
Jeremy Schaap
Who's the goat in hoops? One thing that we all know is Dan's the goat of finding the worst possible take. But there's another kind of MVP goat that doesn't get enough credit. The friend who knows to show up with enough Miller Lights plus extra ice because they just know the one who already has seats at the bar when you walk up. That is a Miller Time nvp. I've been on this show long enough to know that Dan is gonna make everything about his feelings and Jeremy is gonna push back on whatever I just said. But here's something nobody on this show will argue with. Miller Lite is the summer beer. The original light beer since 1975. This summer, recognize your MVPs. We all have that one friend who makes every game better. Now it's time to give them their moment. Head over to Miller Lite's social media pages to learn more about being a Miller Time mvp. You can pick up some Miller Lite pretty much anywhere they sell Beer. It's Miller time. Celebrate responsibly. Miller Brewing Co. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 96 calories and 3.2 carbs per 12 ounces. Tony, you know that moment at a party or at a tailgate where everything
Dominique Foxworth
just sort of clicks?
Jeremy Schaap
I know it well.
Tony Reali
It's usually when I show up, everybody goes crazy.
Jeremy Schaap
Yeah. You usually take all the credit for it, but it's because Tony usually walks in with Cuervo.
Chris Cody
Walk in like this.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Jeremy Schaap
Cuervo is a thing that turns hanging out into this is the night.
Tony Reali
It has that effect on people.
Jeremy Schaap
It does. You usually take the credit for it, but again, it's the Cuervo effect. It's like that moment in a big game where everyone in the crowd just starts standing up, hooting and hollering.
Chris Cody
Keep it Cuervo.
Dan Le Batard
Cuervo, baby. Folks, you know my dog, Samantha Bennett. We call her Benny. She somehow is convinced that every package that delivers is for her. It doesn't matter what it is. Dog food that will. That makes sense. New headphones. Benny's package. Tax documents. Also Benny's package. If you're a pet parent like me, you already know about Chewy. And when they say they've got everything you need to keep your pet happy and healthy, they're not messing around. Chewy has over a hundred thousand products from all the brands Benny loves food, treats, toys, beds, you name it. It shows up in one or two days, which is great because I tend to realize we're almost out of dog food at the absolute worst time. Plus, their customer service is available 24 7. And if Benny decides that she doesn't like something, which, to be clear, changes constantly, Chewy's 100% satisfaction guaranteed lets me return anything within a year, no questions asked. John,
Dominique Foxworth
how you love that cat phrase. Bad news for opposing teams in the Triple Jonathan Sasso.
Chris Cody
This is the d. Levatar show.
Tony Reali
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but we played a Jalen Brunson parade of gas bags a couple of weeks ago when the Knicks won the title and whose voice was all over the parade of gas bags talking about how he was opining and, and pontificating into the future on the Knicks and what they were doing. Oh, Nick Wright, who said that Jalen Brunson wasn't the good, that good of a player.
Chris Cody
Are you, are you considering banning him? I wouldn't ban him. I, I, I mean, he's, Nick's fine, but, but I would ban him.
Tony Reali
He's spoken ill of the Heat on plenty, Plenty, plenty of occasions.
Dan Le Batard
Okay, but Nick Wright, he's got that left.
Tony Reali
Yeah, well, no, he's got that leb.
Chris Cody
Oh. All right, let's look at Nick, Right? Put Nick back on the screen here. Okay. Dominique, is this a guy Look Nick, right? You look him straight in the face. All right, Is, is Nick Wright the kind of guy he got that love?
DraftKings Announcer
Absolutely.
Nick Wright
I think Giannis still has at least two and maybe three awesome years left in him, and I miss seeing Giannis deep into postseasons flatly. And because of that, that I'm really bummed he now has working for him a great coach, a good organization, and bam Adebayo. And that's about it. They don't know if they're going to be able to bring back Norman Powell. They're not certain, even though I would imagine they will be able to bring back Andrew Wiggins. Davion Mitchell is a nice defensive point guard. And all of a sudden, Giannis went from a team who the last couple years in Milwaukee, the ceiling, the absolute ceiling was round one of the playoffs, and now Giannis is on a team where the ceiling, the absolute ceiling is round two of the playoffs.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah. Pretty sure he's got that leg.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah, definitely.
Dominique Foxworth
Really?
Dan Le Batard
Look, I'm looking at a lot of
Tony Reali
left when you can wire 100 racks to the aria.
Dominique Foxworth
You got left fast take. I mean, I don't want.
Tony Reali
Can you wire 100 racks right now?
Dominique Foxworth
I don't want.
Dan Le Batard
Don't get in my man's wall like that.
Chris Cody
Why you pocket watch playing poker.
Tony Reali
You do that?
Dominique Foxworth
I would never. That's, that's what I like to hear. Could you Maybe. But I would never. But I'm not a poker guy. To each their own. But I feel bad. I know that you said the streets are upset at me. The streets might continue to be disappointed in me because I don't really understand, like, are we supposed to analyze the moves and how else are you supposed to analyze the move without analyzing the things as they currently stand? I think that they're probably. I didn't listen to Nick's whole show, but I'm Guessing that there's probably some nuance in there about we know that they can do other things. But as things stand now, it's essentially, maybe I'm being defensive because that feels like essentially what I was saying. It's the same thing as I was saying yesterday. Maybe I was wrong. I think Amin made an awesome point, is that none of these big trades are, like, done on day one. And, yes, they're in better position now than they were before, and I think that's what we should be doing that'll make everyone happy. It's like, they made a move. They're in the right direction. The next step is like, so, are they going to win a championship? And that's kind of the culture of sports analysis now is like, are they going to win a championship? And the answer to that, even the most ardent Heat fan. If you ask Spo right now, can this team win a championship? He would say no.
Dan Le Batard
It is fair to ask Zaz the question, if would we have created Fast
Dominique Foxworth
Take if he said the Heat were
Dan Le Batard
going to win it all?
Chris Cody
We'll never know. We'll never know. But that's not what took place today.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast Take. Speaking of creating, I did witness Fast Take being created.
Lisa Salters
Yeah.
Dominique Foxworth
This morning I walked in.
Chris Cody
Oh, you let them. Behind door.
Dan Le Batard
Saw Rick Rubin sandwich in action.
Dominique Foxworth
I was going to go with Red Ruben. I like Red.
Chris Cody
Red Ruben.
Dominique Foxworth
Red Ruben. He was in there, and he locked in one earphone in playing songs and yelling it or not yelling in the lab.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah, him with the stiff arm. I'm like, not now.
Dominique Foxworth
Hold on.
Chris Cody
And then he's working. Red Ruben's working.
Dominique Foxworth
And then he hit him with a festing.
Dan Le Batard
Don't you dare play the raw versions of that, Roy. And then he was like, you're looking at.
Chris Cody
Right, that's the one.
Dominique Foxworth
That's the one. You got raw. I. I got it, but I'm not gonna do that. Oh, no, no, dude.
Tony Reali
Come on, come on.
Chris Cody
You got.
Dominique Foxworth
You got to. Okay, you want me to do it?
Windows 11 Advertiser
I'll do it.
Dominique Foxworth
Play some rocks.
Lisa Salters
Take.
Dan Le Batard
Fast take.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast take, Fast take.
Dan Le Batard
That was take one. Let's do take two.
Dominique Foxworth
Fast take, Fast take. Fast take.
Dan Le Batard
And then there's a third one where I tried whispering. We did not go with this one. Fast egg. Fast egg. Fast egg.
Commercial Announcer
Faster.
Dan Le Batard
I'm cooking, man.
Chris Cody
Hey, that's good effort.
Commercial Announcer
Nice job.
Tony Reali
The back end of it kind of sounds like MVP of the day a little bit.
Dominique Foxworth
Biggest game in 20 years. I only have so many things. You did an awesome job, man. Congratulations.
Chris Cody
So there you go. The debut edition of the new hit show Faster.
Dominique Foxworth
Can I get your. Your analysis as of it? Because like I.
Chris Cody
What Nick was saying.
Dominique Foxworth
No, not of what Nick was saying, just the raw analysis of the Heat transaction.
Chris Cody
It's. It's incredibly exciting. If you're a Miami Heat fan, Of course, this team has an. Has actual proof of concept. They have actual evidence that whenever they have traded for they. Or acquired in free agency the superstar player, they've either won the whole thing or at least gotten to the championship round. So, yeah, I have the faith that this organization knows how to put pieces around them in order to compete at a very high level. And in today's NBA, where for the first time in league history, you have real parody. Eight consecutive unique champions in this league and the Heat now have a top three or four player in the world. So how can you say that they don't have a chance based on what we've seen this decade?
Dan Le Batard
I think he's talking about the. A lot of that. He's talking about the regular season. I don't think it's crazy to say that the four teams of Boston, the Knicks, Detroit and Cleveland.
Chris Cody
That makes you feel bad. You feel bad that he was traded to Miami? Nick Wright feels bad that he was traded to Miami.
Dan Le Batard
No, that's ridiculous.
Chris Cody
Because he's not going to get to see him play in big games.
Tony Reali
What is that supposed to mean? That he. All they do is play big games. Even when they're bad, they play big games.
Dominique Foxworth
I mean, I think that particular take right there, I mean, sometimes you get up in the air, you start talking. Because he said all they have is a great coach. I was like, that's a lot.
Tony Reali
And a great player.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, all they have is another good player. All they have. So it's a good starting point, but I think it's. It's fair to think that it's going to be an uphill battle. I think they went from having him saying there's no chances, probably just a little bit of Nick Wright hyperbole for performance effect. But I think they went from having like a 1% chance of winning the championship to like a 30%.
Chris Cody
They're in the game.
Tony Reali
It's a massive upgrade.
Dominique Foxworth
I know.
Chris Cody
I think in the game, 30 is high.
Dominique Foxworth
I'm making the point that they made a big leap. 30 is probably high. They made a big leap, but they certainly aren't like one of the real favorites.
Chris Cody
If we totally.
Dominique Foxworth
If we put.
Chris Cody
I think having the fifth shortest odds to win the championship right now, that was surprising to Me, right?
Dominique Foxworth
So I'm saying that the, the final point that Nick landed on is the reason why I asked you for your analysis is the same place we all are. We're all in the same place. It's just Nick came in through the back door, you came in through the front door. You're like, I'm so exc. We got a chance. We're like the sixth or seventh best team. Nick's like, hey, this trade didn't make them good. They're like the sixth or seventh best team. Like we're all at the same spot.
Chris Cody
They're in the game. They're in the game. And in today's NBA, that's all you can ask for. And if the Heat get to a playoff series and you have to go up against Giannis and Bam Adebayo and Eric Spoelstra in a seven game series, my team's got a chance now. My team got a chance.
Dominique Foxworth
The scariest part I think is the point I was trying to make yesterday is they have to be able to find someone to close games. And in my mind, I always imagine a super talented, top of the league type of player to do that. They're not going to be able to get one of those guys. So the question is, and we see again, proof of concept, proof of concept because Milwaukee's done it before where they had that wing perimeter player who wasn't like top of the league type of talent. It's finding someone that can do that. That's the hard part. When that gets, when that part happens and then you have the discount rate of the injury stuff or aging guy. But when that happens, it changes. Everything changes about this team. The perspective and the like trajectory of this team changes. If they can do that.
Dan Le Batard

Chris Cody
Dan Levitar. It's a judge.
Jeremy Schaap
Coach.
Chris Cody
Sweetie. Chris Cody. I should go say hello. This is the Dan Levatar show. I want to talk about the draft last night. So every year I get suckered into believing that there's gonna be just a million transactions. And I don't mean transacts like trading the picks where you're putting on the wrong hat. The NFL gets it right. The NFL, they trade picks. Every, every few picks a pick is being traded. They manage to put the right hat on the player. The NBA can't get it right. I don't get. I don't get it. The NFL, why do they know how to do it? Why can you make a trade in the NFL and everybody agrees to the trade and they do the right hat and the NBA can't do it.
Dominique Foxworth
I mean, I think this is. A lot of people point to the NBA and make the joke that they are a league run by lawyers. It's. It's not just a joke, but it's factual. But I think that that's part of it is like, no, he's not actually on that team yet. But I think most of us are like, well, what's most likely going to Happen he's going to be on that team. And the off chance, the 3% chance that he ends up not, the trade not going through, then that's the one time they'll be in the wrong hat. Now we go about it in a way that 98.9% of the time we put him in the wrong hat knowing it's going to be the wrong hat. It's very confusing. It's not a huge deal, but it's just weird because we all know the truth. Why are we pretending to.
Chris Cody
I. There. There were. Overall, I was kind of bored with the draft last night and maybe because, like, there weren't any big trades with current players and it was kind of chalky the first, you know, four or five picks or whatever.
Dan Le Batard
But you should have played the drinking game I was playing, which was take a drink. Every time Lisa Salters has to tell a parent to lift the mic up
Chris Cody
to their mouth, was it. Which. Which player was I. I think it was Darren Peterson. Darren Peterson, who. After his father was. And his father. His father's holding the microphone, I think, at his ankles.
Dan Le Batard
All right, and then you. I love the three shot because you see Lisa, she doesn't realize she's on the shot. She's like, but, but the.
Chris Cody
But Darren Peterson, after his father got done talking again, microphones at his ankles. Darren Peterson goes speaking of Mike. And then his dad picks up the mic to his mouth.
Dan Le Batard
But that's what we're doing every week with my dad, by the way. Just like Greg, I.
Chris Cody
That. That, though, is my favorite part of the draft is, is the families. And I love when they cry now,
Dan Le Batard
the interviews, I love when they get nervous and don't make sense.
Chris Cody
I love when they cry. Now, the interviews can be hit or miss, okay? Because, you know, look, you're talking to the parents. Parents probably never had a microphone in front of their face. So some of them, it's like they don't really have anything to say, but when it's good and they're showing the emotion, I love that so much. Like. Like when Yaxo Landenberg was up there with his mother, who apparently is battling cancer right now. When Yaxol Landenberg is up there, he is hysterical crying, sitting on that couch there. I love it so much. I love when they get emotional.
Dominique Foxworth
The triumph, like that particular moment for those guys reaching a dream along with their parents is very good. I think they do that living room set with everyone and it's the same questions. And most of the time you're getting like, eh, I Work really hard. Happy to be here.
Chris Cody
But when it's good, it's good.
Dominique Foxworth
It's worth it for the risk. But for the most part, I think I'm like, so is he gonna be good on his team? Somebody tell me how this is gonna work out. I don't really care unless it's a great story that they already know about. But they also do the thing where I saw towards the end of the draft, they bring the parents to the couch, they give them microphones, and then they don't ask them any questions. And I'm.
Chris Cody
I always felt bad for, like, the mother or the sister who didn't get to talk. And she was just holding the mic the whole time, Right?
Dominique Foxworth
Just hold it a flat. Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
And there were a few times where the mother and father were sitting there, and Lisa was like, you said that this is a good moment between you and your father. Like, you two. This is our moment. And the mom is just sitting there. It's like, can you. It should be all of our moments.
Dominique Foxworth
Don't worry.
Dan Le Batard
I'm feeling bad for the mom now because you're positioning it like it's their moment.
Dominique Foxworth
And most of the time, the parents, like, echo the question. So Lisa's like, I heard that this was really important moment. You work really hard together. They give the microphone. We've been working for this moment for a really long time. It's a really good moment for us.
Tony Reali
Yeah.
Dominique Foxworth
Okay, thanks.
Chris Cody
Well, and there was one where the father explained everything about his son and what makes him great. And then Lisa Salters asked the mother, and she goes, everything he said.
Dan Le Batard
I feel the same. Exact.
Chris Cody
Right. I would not like to talk all of those words. That's from me.
Dominique Foxworth
They should. They should practice these. Like, they should have, like, a walkthrough of that the whole night. We're gonna say, this is where you stand. This is where you walk through. Lisa's gonna bring you on the stage. This is the question she's gonna ask you. Be ready. Hit us with something different. Or is there something you would like to talk about? Because I think that. That most of those things, I honestly think are, like, a kind of a waste.
Dan Le Batard
I was assuming when they sit down, she's like, who would like me to go first? Is there one that's more confident here or something? Like, that's what I would be doing. Like, who's more prepared to talk?
Chris Cody
I do, like, all the family stuff. I. I dig it when they're emotional. I mean, I. I forget whose mother was crying. One of the mothers. She didn't get up to the couch. She stayed back at the table because I think maybe he went with his siblings. And she was so emotional. She's hysterical, crying back at the table. I love that. That's. That's my favorite part.
Dan Le Batard
You mentioned the Yaxel pick. Did you guys see the Little Joe Lake of Mike Dunley v. The Internet? Like, are they upset? Are they fighting over who they're taking now? They're claiming that in this little like, interaction that got caught by the Internet, that they were just. It was a time thing. Joe lacob's like, make the pick now. And Mike Dunleavy's like, we got five minutes. And. But a lot. The Internet was thinking that they were arguing over who to pick. They have since, you know, put those flames out. But Joe, like, come on. I just feel like it's a bad look for the owner if you gotta at least be sitting down. You gotta know the optics. You gotta know there's a camera there. Like.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, I mean, they know it's a camera there. And you got to be the one making the call. It feels like whoever's making the call, it's the power player. Even though we know it's not true.
Dan Le Batard
I will say, because they're saying, they're claiming it was just a timing thing. Dunleavy's like, walking away. Like, on the phone, you can't hear what's happening here.
Chris Cody
You're. You're very excited though, about the bonsa. You're a D.C. guy. You live there. Like, this gets you to go to Wizards games now.
Dominique Foxworth
Absolutely. I mean, I've gone to Wizards games when they weren't good. Like, I will be so excited to go to these games. I met AJ at the. At game four of the Knicks game, which was an awesome experience. And AJ Seems like a really.
Chris Cody
You were at game four?
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, I was at game four.
DraftKings Announcer
Wow.
Chris Cody
Where were you sitting?
Dominique Foxworth
What you know about that game for?
Chris Cody
I mean, I. I know it was really good.
Dominique Foxworth
I mean, I was sitting in the 1/ hundreds. Like, I didn't get down low. I wasn't up super high. It was great. I. I did not pay actual like the. The aftermarket prices is. I couldn't figure that out. My. My man Charlie, we mentioned earlier, got us to connect, to get us into that arena. It was an incredible experience. AJ though, really cool guy, smart kid. He's going to be awesome. That team has never really had a player like that. That, that high. Super high talent, super high value prospect on the wing. Like the most important player on the Floor. It feels like there's some optimism. And we also got Trey. I like Trey, man. Trey's a good pass.
Chris Cody
I like Trey Young, too, but there's. I gave him $250 million or 212. $212 million. Four years. 212. So we're talking what, $53 million a season. I did that quick. Matt didn't even have my abacus with me. And I did in my head, that's $53 million a season for Trey Young. And like, I get it. Like, you're saying how. All right, at least we got something to watch now. You got like, Trey Young's an exciting player, but I just.
Dominique Foxworth
They. I mean, they have to get over the minimum like that. That matters to 90% of the cap. And they have a. A team that's full of young first contract players in Trey. I think you probably. Of course, it wasn't a huge market for it, but I am never going to argue against a guy getting paid, especially a guy who I think could be valuable in the right situation. They have like, long wings that can help him out defensively. And I think his passing ability. The one question mark is like, he's. He gives off great shooter, but his great shooting numbers have never quite shown up. I think the ball dominance could be a concern. AJ Is gonna. Needs the ball a little bit more. But I. I mean, I think it's interesting, exciting. And you got to take into account Miami or Washington. Isn't Miami. Like, we haven't been in it all the time. This feels like something like we. I'm excited.
Dan Le Batard
You're not spoiled.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, I'm the opposite. Where it's like, I'm finding anyone. We got someone and we got a guy. We got. We got a couple of guys. And Trey Young, I mean, Trey Young hit game winners in the playoffs. That's more than what we got.
Tony Reali
The Knicks fans hate Trey Young because
Dominique Foxworth
of what he did.
Dan Le Batard
Exactly.
Dominique Foxworth
We got a guy that people care enough about to hate or love. We got a guy that he could
Dan Le Batard
use, a Trey Young.
Dominique Foxworth
You wouldn't be dying for a Trey.
Dan Le Batard
Not for that money, but.
Chris Cody
No, but it's fair. Like, you got a fan base who has never had. Who has not had anything in so long. At least you can. You can get a little bit excited on game day. We got some exciting players to watch.
Dominique Foxworth
You have to. The most exciting people were probably the like, sales team because they, like, work for commission. And for the last 20 years, that wizard sales team, they've been working they ass off, man. They're like, hey, we got a special after the game. There's a concert. Is that. Don't worry, we got something happening. We give free T shirts. If you cut like they are now, they could be like, hey, got some young guys, man. We got some guys.
Jeremy Schaap
My line.
Dominique Foxworth
Get on. Get in on the ground floor. I'm fielding calls. I call you back when I can. That's what they are busy. And you know what? It's not saying spam likely when they call anymore. That number was unlikely. The banter makes us spam unlikely, baby.
Chris Cody
So tonight is round two. The Heat do have a pick tonight around two. This is the third consecutive year where round two. There's only two rounds in the NBA draft, and round two is on a second night. It used to all just be one night. Round one in round two. And this is the third year they're doing this. If you remember the first year they did round two, which, look, it's not like the NFL. You pick a player in round two, you want, that guy's gonna be a starter on your team. If you made a good pick in the NBA round two, half those guys aren't even gonna be in the league. All right? And three years ago, the very first time, they did a separate day for round two. Why was that? Because Bronnie was about to be drafted, so they had its own day. Because they'll never admit it, but no, it was because Bronnie is going to be trapped. So round two is going to get its own day. I feel like after this year, we could pull the plug on that. Like, you want to do a couple more years so you can kind of feign the idea that, no, no, nothing to do with Bronnie. You see, we're still doing it. Round two's got its own day. I feel like after this year, it's like, all right, we, like, we've seen enough. Just one day.
Tony Reali
To be fair, the guys that work in. Guys and girls that work in the NBA and the NBA media, that's a really long night. When you got the first round and the second round on the same night. That's brutal.
Chris Cody
The NFL draft used to only be two days.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah.
Chris Cody
You would have four rounds the first day and the final three rounds the next day. And the first round was 15 minutes between picks.
Dan Le Batard
As a show that often live streams these first rounds, let's stick to one round. And thank you.
Dominique Foxworth
I get to tell people that I was a day one pick. Pick the album old enough to be when the first three rounds were on day one.
Chris Cody
So, hey, were you telling someone now? Like, holy, you were awesome.
Dominique Foxworth
The date day. Day one pick, y'.
Nick Wright
All.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, that was me. Day one pick.
Jeremy Schaap
Yeah.
Dominique Foxworth
I got a spam likely call while we're on the show, and it just reminded me that my dad, who's retired now, has taken it upon himself to answer these calls and spam emails and give them the run around. He's a freedom fighter.
Dan Le Batard
Oh, you want to try to mess with my day? I'm going to mess with your day.
Dominique Foxworth
He's like, I got time. I got nothing. But speak to your supervisor. Yeah, you go send me. You gonna send me some money.
Nick Wright
Cool.
Dominique Foxworth
I'm gonna talk to you for an hour about how you gonna send me this money and never actually give you any account information. We gonna mess around for as long as you want to mess around.
Dan Le Batard
Let's dance.
Dominique Foxworth
I'm gonna make you quit. I'll make you hang up.
Chris Cody
I got the left. It's easy to do that now because you'll get the space spam texts now.
Dominique Foxworth
Yeah, yeah.
Chris Cody
So it's real easy to mess around with these people on the text.
Dominique Foxworth
It's so dangerous, though, man. Like, I feel like I could fall into one of those traps. I'm getting older, and it's like I've noticed myself where I don't completely dismiss the spam text, the calls, emails, smell them right off the bat. Oh, spam. I get a spam text. I read the whole thing. I'm like, are we sure?
Lisa Salters
Before?
Dominique Foxworth
I'm like, oh, it's definitely spam. I think I'm getting old. There are a lot of people who want to fix my roof. That's crazy.
Dan Le Batard
That's actually a great. What about the people that come to your door? If the window. I know. Obviously, we don't. Obviously, the first option is you don't answer, but if you find. If you just happen to answer it, are you the.
Dominique Foxworth
Right away.
Dan Le Batard
I'm gonna be a little rude here. Not interested. And then I'm just shutting the door because I'm a sucker. I need my wife to come save me. I'll stand out there for 20 minutes that's happened. I'm never gonna. I'm never gonna actually purchase anything, but I'll take your number down. I'll make an appointment.
Chris Cody
I have a hard time being rude. I'm a generally nice person. I have a hard time being rude to someone, especially face to face. And one time I was doing these. I'm standing out on my porch. I'm listening to this person yapping we're
Dan Le Batard
gonna be in your neighborhood later this week.
Chris Cody
Well, no, it's one of those people, like, it's. It's like the magazine subscription thing, you know? And then after like 10 minutes, my wife, she doesn't know what's happening, but she knows what's happening. She opens the door and all she does, she goes, it's enough of this. Let's go.
Dominique Foxworth
We're the same, dude, I said the
Dan Le Batard
exact same things happen to me.
Dominique Foxworth
My neighborhood, they've been running this great scam where you got a nice neighborhood, too. Yeah, I'm in a nice neighborhood. And they bring that cul de sac. And they bring. Nope, no cul de sac. They bring in guys who have been recently released from prison. And they're like, we're in this prison release program. We need you to buy these magazines in order to, like, fund our recovery. And so in the background, I assume that all my neighbors are like, hold up, you got out of jail. If I don't buy these magazines, what's really gonna happen? Sure, I get these money magazines. Take them faster.

Date: June 24, 2026
Live from: The Elser Hotel, Downtown Miami
Main Hosts: Dan Le Batard, Chris Cody, Dominique Foxworth, Tony Reali
Notable Guests: Nick Wright, Jeremy Schaap, Lisa Salters
The debut episode of "FAST TAKE" brings Le Batard and his panel together for their signature blend of sports analysis, humor, and cultural commentary. The hour revolves around the need in today’s media landscape for rapid, even reckless, sports takes — highlighted by Nick Wright’s snap judgments on the Miami Heat’s blockbuster offseason trade. The group also explores the modern mechanics of personal communication (phones, spam, and door-knocks), parenting, NBA Draft spectacle, and the evolving culture of sports debate shows.
How do you answer phone calls?
The hosts riff on the art of answering the phone, especially with caller ID and scam filters.
Doorbell Anxiety
Chris Cody admits he might be "too good" of a father, but is self-aware:
Advice from Chris: Pursue your own passions with your kids; that’s the ultimate “good parenting.”
"Winning three rounds, I would be utterly stunned. And winning four rounds, not possible."
— Nick Wright (13:53)
On Spam Calls:
“Scam unlikely is absurd. I've never had scam unlikely.”
– Dominique Foxworth (3:51)
On Overparenting:
“I’m just doing shit that I want to do, and I have someone to do it with who also enjoys it.”
– Chris Cody (9:20)
On the Need for Hot Takes:
“This is fast take where you can't let any time go by. There is no waiting. It doesn't matter if you're right or if you're wrong.”
– Chris Cody (10:54)
On the Heat’s Prospects:
“I think they went from having like a 1% chance of winning the championship to like a 30%.”
– Dominique Foxworth (26:38)
Behind-the-Scenes Banter:
“And then there's a third one where I tried whispering. We did not go with this one. Fast egg. Fast egg. Fast egg.”
– Dan Le Batard (24:16)
This debut hour captures the essence of “The Dan Le Batard Show”: sports news filtered through humor, skepticism, and the personalities of the crew. “FAST TAKE” satirizes the modern compulsion for immediate analysis, while the lighter tangents on cell phone etiquette, parenting, and the awkward joys of NBA Draft night remind you why the show remains both sharp on sports and delightfully irreverent.
