We hope that you have had a great American Thanksgiving with you and yours. I again did my famous turkey and again I won. Thank you very much.
Well, I didn't really beat anybody, but everybody really enjoyed okay having that turkey.
Ethan
So, Roy, I missed, I missed the Turk off the year before. I was not here yet for the Turk off, I believe. So I still have not tried your delicious turkey and I'm trying to get my family. I'm really adamant about. I think turkey is the wrong meat to eat on Thanksgiving. I want to go with ham, but is there any chance I could get your recipe?
David Drucker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ethan
Oh, you will?
David Drucker
Yeah, absolutely.
Ethan
I didn't know if you were like one of those people that's very protective over their recipes or if they'll.
David Drucker
Okay, no, I, I, I put over Twitter a couple of times last year. So yeah, I'm not protective. I'm just happy that everybody likes the fact that they want to, you know.
Ethan
You just like that people like your food, right?
David Drucker
Yeah, I want people to like my food. Exactly.
DJ Bean
But.
David Drucker
But you know what? I think ham is actually a Christmas. It is, yeah.
Ethan
It's a Christmas meat for sure. But for me, like one year during the pandemic, we did a very small Thanksgiving and we did honey baked ham and turkey, and it was the best Thanksgiving we've ever had because I had an option besides turkey.
David Drucker
Oh, I love honey baked ham.
Roy Bellamy
Is awesome.
Ethan
I love honey baked ham.
Roy Bellamy
My non Jewish side of the family. We do ham Christmas Eve and. Or turkey Christmas Eve, ham Christmas, I believe. Or maybe it's the other way around. I don't care. It's delicious.
David Drucker
Yeah, man. Honey baked ham is the best, especially on.
Roy Bellamy
What's your ham go to Sides size.
David Drucker
Would definitely be sweet potato yams with him. Yeah, I can have it. A ham. Yeah. I mean, it's a sweet component with a sweet component, but I'll have it with him.
Roy Bellamy
I like going like, like potatoes with, like, cheese melted on top. Maybe some, like, crispy bacon on top.
David Drucker
Yeah, well, this. This is just Thanksgiving, though. Yeah, but.
Roy Bellamy
Well, I'm talking about with ham in general.
David Drucker
You know, I've baked beans. Baked beans. And again, it's. Yeah, that's true. It's a sweet component.
Roy Bellamy
But you can have some kind of apple.
Ethan
Would that be your. Sorry. Would that be your top barbecue side would be baked beans?
David Drucker
Oh, absolutely.
DJ Bean
Yeah, absolutely.
David Drucker
Every single barbecue dish that I have ever had at a restaurant, I checked the menu to see if there's baked beans on it. You know, then if it has baked beans, I'm getting it every time.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, I like the way they put, like, the pieces of pork in the baked beans so you get like, different, like, textures.
David Drucker
Poke beans.
Roy Bellamy
No, no, not like, not like that. Like, like little chunks of like, you know, sliced beef or whatever. I don't know. It's just yummy.
David Drucker
Yeah, it is yummy. Yeah. Burn ends always get burn ends. By the way. By the way, Thanksgiving is always the time that teams happen to look at the calendar and see where they are and in the standings in.
Ethan
Let's not do that today, guys. I don't want to look at the standings right now.
David Drucker
No, we're going to look at the standings. Unfortunately, we have to.
Roy Bellamy
They are there that, you know, that.
David Drucker
Happened to be there. And there's a line of demarcation. But anyway, the Toronto Maple Leafs are constantly getting trolled by Brad Marchand every single time. And this time, Brad Marchand brought up looking at Thanksgiving as a line of demarcation. In a team's season. In this case, it happened to be the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is what he had to say about Toronto season and trying to quell the fears of Mabel fans.
Ethan
Obviously, with the media attention and the.
David Drucker
Fan support they have in Toronto, they're.
Ethan
You know, things get blown way out.
Roy Bellamy
Of proportion up there.
David Drucker
But yeah, they definitely don't think that in the room.
Roy Bellamy
What are they, four points out of.
David Drucker
Spot or.
Roy Bellamy
If people are thinking they're.
David Drucker
Out of playoff spot for the season.
Roy Bellamy
They got to find a new job.
David Drucker
I'm going to do my best Chris Rock impression here for you, Jay. Right message, wrong messenger. Right message, wrong messenger.
Roy Bellamy
Right.
David Drucker
Because he's not wrong. It's 25 games into the season. The Leafs are just on the outside looking in. The Leafs are in a position where they've been very good in the regular.
Ethan
Season for a long time.
David Drucker
And they better have some confidence and some belief behind closed doors that they could still make the playoffs. But this isn't the guy who should be saying it because it's not sincere. That was Brian Hayes who joined TSN SportsCenter to basically say that Brett Marsh was not sincere. Do you agree with that assertion?
Roy Bellamy
No, I thought Brad was pretty sincere when he was. I think. I think Hazy is hurt by first half of his career. Marchand. I don't think he's taking into account mature Marchand. The Marchand that's won a Stanley Cup. Now, the Marchand that's just a good guy.
David Drucker
Whoa, whoa, whoa. He had won a Stanley cup before.
Roy Bellamy
No, no, that's won a Stanley cup since his rookie year. That he's won a Stanley cup as a mature person.
David Drucker
But on the road to that, Stan.
Ethan
I was gonna say he had a big part in that Toronto series. I mean, he saved the Panthers in that series.
Roy Bellamy
I don't think he's being. I think that's. That's just the thing. They did beat Toronto, so he doesn't have to, you know.
Ethan
I agree with you.
Roy Bellamy
Drive it home. I think that was being sincere. Especially considering anybody just turn around and say, well, if he's trolling the Maple Leafs, where are your Panthers? Below the Maple Leaf.
David Drucker
So, like, you know, not for long, probably. Right. Hopefully. Because there's a chance that Matthew Tkachuk will return at the end of this month. Yes. And hopefully some more of the players, like ETI Loose Rhineon maybe will come back at the end of the month as well as he recovers. Recovers from his burns from that tragic propane accident.
Roy Bellamy
Barbecue accident.
Ethan
Sounds like a fried Turkey situation gone wrong or was it before Thanksgiving? Okay. Cause there was another one. Not Jimmy Snuggerude, but maybe Veronikov on the. No, not Frankov.
David Drucker
No, I know about that.
Ethan
Torpachenko. Torpachenko.
David Drucker
We're gonna talk about that.
Ethan
We'll get to that in a second.
David Drucker
I'm think. I'm actually thinking may. Maybe it was pasta. Pasta water that fell on him. I'm thinking that. I'm thinking maybe, but I don't think it was fried turkey situation.
Ethan
We'll talk about that in a second. But just on the Panthers, like, I know it's rough right now and they're out of it. And the Leafs are out of it as well, but they're only five points out of the Atlantic Division.
David Drucker
Yeah, that's the thing. I mean, we're making a mountain out of a. I hate using this term. A mountain out of a molehill. Right. I mean, we are early in the season, it's. I mean, if you get on a winning streak and hopefully some of the teams lose, then you'll be back in it. Now, the way it is gonna take a little bit of help, but that's the situation.
Roy Bellamy
They're gonna help themselves like that. I'm. What I'm. My positive spin is something that we haven't had to experience the last few years as Panthers fans. Right. And that's winning.
David Drucker
We've been doing plenty of Panthers fans.
Roy Bellamy
I keep saying we like I. I stop doing that.
David Drucker
You're a journalist.
Roy Bellamy
I am. You know, my youth versus my adulthood. But anyway, my positive spin is that it's been a few years since Panthers fans have got. Had to sweat out a playoff race. Like they haven't had to watch the standings that much in. In March and April, so. But this year that they may have to do that and the fact that they could have a team that's like way better than most, if they get as healthy as, you know, if they get everybody back except for Barkov, which they may by the time the playoffs roll around. I don't know. Like, that sounds like fun to me.
Ethan
I think they just need to be within striking range at the Olympic break. If they're just still hanging around at the Olympic break, they'll be able to make a charge late season and. And they'll be able to hang around. But again, it's five points, it's December, and teams are playing at ridiculous paces. They won't play it all season. Like, the Flyers are on like a 102 point pace. It's going to slow down. Win four games in a row and you're right back in the standings like it's. It's fine.
David Drucker
Speaking of the Olympic break, the progress on the building of the Olympic ice rink in Milan is not going well. In fact, the rank is going to be smaller than NHL standard size.
Roy Bellamy
How does that happen, Roy?
Ethan
It's a classic to us mistake. It's the metric system versus the customary system. 100%. That's literally what happened.
David Drucker
As you know, usually international ice rinks are bigger because, again, the metric system usually bigger than NHL ranks.
Roy Bellamy
Usually.
David Drucker
But they're going by NHL regulation size for these Olympics now. I mean, the word is, and this is coming from Team Canada's assistant coach Peter DeBoer, the rank is going to be three to four feet smaller than standard NHL ranks. And you know, the ranks are usually 200 by 85ft. So it would come in around 197 by 85 by comparison. And we're talking about old ranks now. By comparison, this would make the ice just about the size of Boston Garden. 191 to 83ft. Now, the smallest ice rink that we've probably seen would be Chicago Stadium.
Roy Bellamy
Yes.
David Drucker
185 by 85.
Roy Bellamy
Boxing ring that they played hockey.
Ethan
How did we live in a time where hockey ice surfaces in the NHL were not regulated? That seems. It seems like ballpark nine to me. It seems like ballpark asinine. How did we play on different sized surfaces in different cities? That's insane.
David Drucker
It depends on the size of the arena. Right? I mean, Chicago Stadium was a barn, literally.
Roy Bellamy
Well, I think that's because so many of the buildings were built before they thought about regulating that kind of thing. And it's. And it's hard to, you know, wind that tape back.
Ethan
Yeah, I know.
Roy Bellamy
I was listening. I'm trying to remember where it was earlier this week when this was on. And I don't know if it was Laz or somebody was talking about how, like, why wouldn't hockey arenas do it like baseball and have every stadium have its own unique dimensions that could be like, catered to that particular team? That's a cool idea.
David Drucker
I find that crazy. I don't find it crazy in baseball at all, but I find it crazy in hockey. And what we're going to see, with a small ice, there's not going to be a lot of room. No, it has to be a lot more checking, right? Yeah. It's got to be more like, if it's bigger and bigger, if it's international ice, it'll Be like three on three. The way the ice is going to look out there with all those.
Roy Bellamy
That's what I was looking forward to, is the wide open ice. So you can. The skilled guys can do their thing a little bit more.
David Drucker
It's.
Roy Bellamy
It's certainly not Panthers hockey, but it's still. There's entertainment to be had.
Ethan
Just to note for those that don't know they played on a smaller ice surface in Sweden when they had the Global Series this year. And what will happen is they'll shrink the neutral zone. So that's the fix. They'll paint the lines differently. They will shrink the neutral zone so that the offensive zones are the same size. I'm concerned, guys. Like, are you guys freaking out?
David Drucker
It's going to be the same amount of room behind the net.
Ethan
It'll be the same amount of room in the offensive zone. They're just going to shrink the neutral zone probably by what, a foot and a half each on each side, Right. If it's three feet, guys, I'm concerned. Like, Bill Daly was asked recently, what are the chances that NHL players don't show up? And he said, what are the chances that the arena's not finished? If the arena is not finished, he says they're not coming.
David Drucker
Well, so, I mean, there's all.
Ethan
There's. There's no plan B.
Roy Bellamy
There's no plan B for an arena. That's it.
David Drucker
They would have to use somebody else's arena outside of Milan, Right?
Roy Bellamy
Well, if they're formulating that plan now, because that they've said that there's. There was no plan B.
David Drucker
That.
Roy Bellamy
That. That arena that they're building was the Olympic arena.
Ethan
So Torino hosted the Olympic Games in 2006. They brought this up on what? Chaos. Which we'll have DJ bean on later, which I'm really excited about, guys, by the way. I love dj, but can't they just play in Torino? Like, how far are Torino and Milan? There was an Olympic Games there 12 years ago. Like, there's got to be an arena that we can play in.
Roy Bellamy
Is that arena still there?
Ethan
12 years. Sorry, that's not 12 years. Oh, my God.
Roy Bellamy
What am I, 20 years?
Ethan
20 years.
David Drucker
Kind of like with soccer stadium five year Olympics ago. Yeah. Oh, geez. So they're relics now. Oh, boy. It's probably mold and grass growing inside the arena at that point. But we were talking about weird injuries, obviously. We talked about Alexi Torochenko, who is week to week for the blues right now after he sustained scalding burns. And did this happen after Thanksgiving or during. During the week.
Ethan
I heard the news right after Thanksgiving. So I was kind of like, like I said in the hockey chat, I was like, is this a fried turkey situation? And then somebody was like, you have Torpachenko frying a turkey. It's like, okay, that might be like.
Roy Bellamy
To get through a show without him mentioning the hockey.
And just so you guys know, Roy, they renovated the Torino arena seven years ago, alright?
David Drucker
So it's still in use.
Ethan
Seems like a pretty easy backup plan if you ask me, guys.
Roy Bellamy
Well, next question. How far is Milan from Torino?
David Drucker
Yeah, you look, you look up Google Maps on that one, buddy.
Roy Bellamy
Oh, it's close.
David Drucker
How close?
Roy Bellamy
Less than two hours.
Ethan
It's. Yes. You have to remember this is Europe, guys.
David Drucker
Okay?
Ethan
You can get there. It takes you seven hours to get and you can go like five.
Roy Bellamy
We are single handedly solving this problem on the hockey show right now.
David Drucker
I hope everybody's listening because we have solved your problem. Everybody. But yeah, Torochenko getting hurt like that, scolding burns ed to looser Ryan. And with the propane situation, I got.
Roy Bellamy
A solution for this too. It's a clause in contracts. What do I say when I see a goalie bleep up outside the crease is Stay your ass out of the crease.
David Drucker
Stay out of the kitchen.
Roy Bellamy
Damn right.
It'll be like the most misogynistic hockey rule since who knows?
David Drucker
But what about Jack Hughes? What are you going to do? Stay ass out of restaurants?
Ethan
Stop hanging out with Frank the Tank.
Roy Bellamy
Maybe hockey, you can just like get some kind of endorsement deal where they can. The players can buy their own. I don't want to say a name because I don't know who's sponsored and who's not, but somebody to get them to deliver food, you know what I mean? Just whatever. Just stay out of the kitchen. Stay safe.
David Drucker
Yeah. Last week, by the way, the Sharks and the Senators, speaking of safety.
They got fined by the NHL because the NHL has this rule.
Roy Bellamy
They got fined?
David Drucker
Yeah, they got, you know, somebody got fined. Some. One of the teams got fined by the NHL because they, as you know, the grandfather, the rule saying that during this is during the 2019, 2020 season that those drafted that season and thereafter must wear helm was. Must wear helmets during pregame skate. Ah. Now, the Sharks and Senators last week did not wear helmets at all during pregame skate.
Roy Bellamy
Oh, yeah. They were both in Vegas and neither one wore helmets.
David Drucker
Yeah. Yes. They were both in Vegas. I think the Senators did that for luck because they had lost six in a row in Vegas, they ended up winning that game. The Sharks did the same thing, although they didn't claim that it was luck, but they decided not to go with helmets during pregame skate.
Roy Bellamy
That is a copycat league.
David Drucker
So, yeah, they lost five in a row in Vegas and they lost again. So now six in a row. So that's the situation there. And one of the teams got fined. So what do you think about this? All the. This is the front office in the NHL right now being fuddy duddies because they don't want people getting hurt during pregame skate.
Roy Bellamy
I feel like, like I hesitate but then like my. I just go back. Maybe it's the dad in me. But I'm just thinking, do you want to change it after someone gets clocked in the side of a head with a puck during warm up? So you do want to maybe change the rule ahead of time and save somebody from getting their brain mashed. But I mean, it's a personal choice, right? They are playing hockey. It's not a safe sport.
David Drucker
It sure isn't.
Roy Bellamy
They are grown men and they look.
Ethan
So much cooler when their buckets are.
Roy Bellamy
Off and they're out there.
David Drucker
Well, not all Timmy Panera and he's bald.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah.
David Drucker
All right, it's time for choice though. Yes, it was a choice and it actually worked out for him. He's actually doing better this season.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, he's doing well actually. Dude.
David Drucker
All right, it's time for puck luck. It's sponsored by DraftKings. DraftKings. Crown is yours, David. Well, let's win some money, man. I'm. I'm broke. Let's go.
Roy Bellamy
I got a good feeling about this week and I think maybe it's because I just stayed my ass out of the Eastern Conference. It's enough. Enough with the Eastern Conference. But all right, so puck luck tonight. First off, I like Dylan. Dylan Gunther on the Utah Mammoth. They're having a fun season. Utah has been. It's a fun team to watch. Right, Roy?
David Drucker
Yeah.
Roy Bellamy
So Utah is in Vancouver, who we just love. I'm thinking Dylan Gunther goes over his shot total of 2.5. He's been over that line in seven of his last eight road games and four of his past five overall. Vancouver also allows the seventh most shots in the NHL. So there's that next game. We're going to go to Dallas. I like Will Smith on the Sharks top line to go over the 2.5 shots total as well. He's over that line and four of his fast, four of his past five overall. Speak the English. Language, David.
David Drucker
Hey, you're doing good.
Roy Bellamy
And four straight on the road as well. And in that game, we're going to get a little same game action going. We're going to take Dallas on the puck line over San Jose just because Dallas has been dominant both at home and everywhere else. San Jose, they're okay this year, but I think Dallas coming off a loss is going to hand it to him. Total odds on that parlay, plus 533. Go make yourselves some money, folks.
David Drucker
All right, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for the stat of the week.
Ethan
The.
David Drucker
Hockey stat of the week.
Ethan
Roy, you've got a stat this week, huh?
David Drucker
That's right. The Toronto Maple Leafs, for the fourth consecutive game, have scored on their first shot on goal. That hasn't been done. Two teams have done that, including them for the first time in 15 years.
Roy Bellamy
That's gross as a. That's my inner goaltender talking. But ew.
David Drucker
Of course. Yeah, of course. I mean, of course you're not going to like that.
Roy Bellamy
Well, because after it happens the second time, right?
David Drucker
Tampa is the other team, by the way.
Roy Bellamy
Of course it is. After that happens the second time, then you're aware of it. Like, oh, God, they've scored in the first shot the last two games. Like, the third team is aware. The third goalie is aware.
Ethan
The fourth goalie is definitely aware.
David Drucker
The ebug is aware.
Ethan
Didn't Tristan Jari do the reverse of this last year? He let up, like, the first shot, the goal, a goal on, like, the first shot of the game in, like, four straight games or something. Maybe it was just six in total. I don't know.
David Drucker
He was.
Ethan
Last year was bad.
David Drucker
You have a pit in your stomach, don't you?
Roy Bellamy
I don't like it.
David Drucker
Okay? It's.
Roy Bellamy
I'm going to be watching Toronto, whoever they play next, I'm going to be watching to make sure that they don't score on their first goal. I guess they play Montreal Saturday night.
David Drucker
Oh, that's going to be hockey night in Canada.
Roy Bellamy
They better not give up the first goal.
David Drucker
All right, it's time for Wins and Fails of the week, presented by Jagermeister. Serve a code or don't serve it at all. Jagermeister. Damn, that's cold. For more visit yagemeister.com Drink responsibly. David, what is your win?
Roy Bellamy
My win? Sticking with the goalie theme, It's. It's a double win. Uh, first off, we had in the USHL a goalie fight. Oh, we had a goalie fight. And it was a great One. Oh, my God. Uh, the Green Bay Gamblers and the Sioux City Musketeers. Great name, by the way. Gamblers goaltender Leo Enriquez and Musketeers tendee Ryder Shay went at it, and oh, my God, the Haymakers were flying. The footwork was spectacular. The referees could not get in and rip them apart. It was so good. So we had that. A great goalie fight between the Gamblers and the Musketeers, and then we're gonna go to the WHL because Tri City Americans goaltender.
David Drucker
Oh, wow. Look at the bench.
Roy Bellamy
Oh, we're still talking about the fight.
Ethan
Yeah. My take on this is the guys on the bench were a little bit too excited. They look like they won the Stanley Cup. Man, they're throwing sticks, jumping up and down. Like, a little bit too excited for.
Roy Bellamy
Amazing.
David Drucker
Yeah, I'll be. I would definitely have the same reaction if it was a goalie fight on the bench. I would have the same reaction.
Roy Bellamy
No, it's like when a goalie scores a goal, which we're going to get to in a second, you got to do what players do when you score the goal. You do the bench line. You enjoy it.
David Drucker
Yeah.
Roy Bellamy
So as I was saying, we're going to go to the WHL now. Tri City Americans goaltender Xavier went. Went for it. He scored.
David Drucker
Jesus Christ.
Roy Bellamy
But like credit to the Swift Current Broncos, they're down three nothing. They're still pulling their goalie. You got to go for it here. But, yeah, Xavier went. Scored from behind his own goal line, right down the middle. He scored a goal. I love a good goalie goal. It's just a great week for goalies and some minor pro hockey. He went and he did the bench line. All that.
David Drucker
They off, too?
Roy Bellamy
Oh, hell, yeah.
David Drucker
All right. I won in a week.
Ethan
That was for when.
David Drucker
That was the delayed reaction, delayed penalty retroactive.
Roy Bellamy
I thought that was great wordplay on my part, but whatever.
DJ Bean
All right.
David Drucker
What happened to Cal Palmeri definitely was not a win, Right. Like, he injured himself trying to get a check off along the boards in the Flyers Islanders game. But what happened after he got hurt is the win now. He tried to jack check Jamie Drysdale into the boards. He got hurt. He ended up with an ACL tear. He's done for the season. Flyers cleared the puck. They cleared the puck out of the zone, but it was brought back in via possession by Emil Andrade. And Palmieri just took it off his stick, who's not offside because the flies brought it back in on possession. He was not offside. It could have been Too many, though.
Roy Bellamy
But it's the best assist ever.
David Drucker
Took it off Andre Stick, gave it to John and Duran Druanne and he had a drop pass to Emil Heineman who ended up scoring. So that means that Colin Palmeri ended up with a secondary assist. That was the last act of his season.
Yeah.
Roy Bellamy
Who's got an assist with a torn acl? I. I'm. I think it's a win of the week. Just the fact that you're giving the Islanders any flowers, like, that's.
David Drucker
Well.
I'm not done there. Because once we get to the fails, you'll see why.
Roy Bellamy
Cya. Very good.
David Drucker
Yeah. Ethan, what's your win, guys?
Ethan
You know, I love Connor Bedard so much and he's having such a good year. And it continued the other night in Vegas with not one, but two spectacular moments. Let's roll the clip here. First, this breakaway goal here. Just shows everything he's about. His speed has been so improved this year. And then watch this release.
David Drucker
Bam.
Ethan
Top left corner, right over the shoulder of Carter Hart.
Roy Bellamy
And then.
Ethan
This is just so dirty. Let's run these back again here, this first goal. Breakaway speed again, the fire. He has had some insane releases this year on some of his goals. Snapped it off. Top corner. And then. This is just absolutely filthy. This kid's amazing. Put him on Team Canada. Everybody wants to see him at the Olympics. Put Celebrini on there, too. Both of these guys deserve to make Team Canada. It would be. I'm not going to say it's a shame because it's going to be Olympic hockey, but it would be really upsetting if we don't see Connor Bedard in Milan or Torino.
Roy Bellamy
Nobody in the league can change their release point the way Connor Bedard does.
David Drucker
It is.
Ethan
It's awesome.
Roy Bellamy
The one that you just showed the way. He brought the puck from out where it's normally to all the way nets to his skates and then he fired that ridiculous shot. Top cheese.
Ethan
Yeah, Normally like that. Earlier this year, too. It's amazing. He's spectacular.
David Drucker
Normally, nobody, nobody in this league shoots with the puck that close to the skates.
Roy Bellamy
Like that.
DJ Bean
No.
Roy Bellamy
With that velocity, with that accuracy. While moving to his right, he brings it back to his left. What's it special?
David Drucker
What do you think the flex on his stick is? I. I have no idea for him to do that.
Roy Bellamy
Goalie sticks don't have flex, Roy.
DJ Bean
No.
David Drucker
I'm kind of a darn.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, I know, but I don't. What do I know about it?
David Drucker
Yeah, I mean.
Roy Bellamy
Well, you Know, I'm not ripping slappers, okay? You should be out there saving them.
David Drucker
Yeah, I don't know about saving shots. Oh, that'd be different.
Ethan
I would love to see Connor Bedard up against you, Dave.
David Drucker
That would be great. No, no.
Roy Bellamy
I can't even stop, Roy. I'm gonna stop.
David Drucker
Ball down.
Ethan
You went bar down on him.
David Drucker
I did.
Roy Bellamy
There's video evidence.
Ethan
Oh, man. How have we not seen this yet, dude?
David Drucker
Well, drop it in. Rose didn't do the video, but, yeah, I think it was Jordan. Jordan McPherson. Yeah, we got that video.
Roy Bellamy
My lovely wife.
David Drucker
Yeah, she laughed at your ass. I remember that. That was hilarious, man. She just. She pointed and laughed at you.
Roy Bellamy
Happy wife, happy life.
David Drucker
All right, what is your fail?
Roy Bellamy
Other than that we're gonna go to the ECHL this time. Roy, I think you might join me in this fail, Ethan. Maybe. I'm not sure, actually.
Ethan
Maybe 100.
Roy Bellamy
Okay. The Kalamazoo Wings had a themed night last night. Another one of these themed nights. They're fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it was for the movie Wicked.
David Drucker
They painted the ice.
Roy Bellamy
They painted it pink and green.
Ethan
Cosmo and Wanda. What are you doing there?
Roy Bellamy
What in the world is happening?
Ethan
Do you guys get that joke?
Roy Bellamy
I did not get that joke.
Ethan
Fairly odd parents.
Roy Bellamy
You said Cosmo. I thought you were talking about the Seinfeld.
David Drucker
Very odd.
Ethan
Very odd parents.
David Drucker
Dude, I am 41 years old. I did not watch the Fairy Odd parents.
Roy Bellamy
My fail of the week is Ethan referencing the Fairly Godparents.
Ethan
Very odd parents.
David Drucker
Thank you.
Roy Bellamy
But I don't know. I just. I feel like Rose might have liked that. Stranger things. But you can't do red and black because the puck is black. So I don't know. I just, like. If you want to do a theme night, I'm all for it. Bring the fans and get them excited. But that, like, yuck.
David Drucker
So the left side of the rink was pink and the right side was green.
Ethan
It looks like a. Do you guys. Okay, here's a reference you might get.
David Drucker
Yeah, I remember which of the west situation.
Roy Bellamy
I think, like, one of them represents Glinda the Good Witch, and the other one represents Elphaba. We remember that. Honestly, like, when I'm looking, looking back at it, it looks like this rink is brought to you by Pepto Bismol.
Ethan
It looks like a gogurt. Like. Like, you have it mixed up, you know, like. Like the two yogurts, one on either side. And then Cosmo and Wanda, they were Timmy's very odd parents, and they used to disguise themselves in things and you would just see pink and green. So there's Cosmo and Wanda.
Roy Bellamy
Remember those yogurts that came out with like the toppings that you can mix in for a minute? Like you had sprinkles, like.
Ethan
Oh, yeah, the Oreos. We've got some of those sometimes in here.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, those are good.
David Drucker
Yeah. I'm sure you're happy about that. My fail of the week comes from same game as my win. And I am very happy. And I get to do this because it finally happened. The on ice reason why no sensible team should sign Tony d' Angelo happened during the Flyers Islanders game.
Uncomfortable here. Bobby Brink pressure on d'. Angelo.
DJ Bean
D' Angelo thinks on his forehand. He's got a. An easy play to make.
David Drucker
No looks it.
DJ Bean
His partner's not there.
David Drucker
It's Couturier. No look pass trying. No look pass trying to get that puck to Alan. Adam Pellich and did not see a flyer. It was a tape to tape pass Deshaun Couturier and Couturier made damn sure to score on that goal. And I'm very, very happy that because I get to talk shit once again about Tony d' Angelo and what a bonehead move it was for the New York Islanders to sign this man. What were you thinking? What were you thinking? And now you get to pay for it by giving up a stupid ass goal by. Oh, my gosh. Oh, Roy.
Ethan
My fail of the week is how you put it out on how you put her. That rant. No, you. You tapered out, man. You had it. You were. You were doing so good. You were doing so good, and then you just. Totally, totally, totally.
David Drucker
Peter, you left the pot on for the video.
Ethan
Threw it off. That's my bad.
David Drucker
All right, fine, Whatever. But yes, I am very happy that I get to talk about Tony d' Angelo yet again because of something stupid he did defensively as a defenseman.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah. You get a job at Papa John serving pizzas like that?
David Drucker
Yes, you can. Extra large. Some shack, extra large pizzas.
Ethan, what?
DJ Bean
You feel all right?
Ethan
I actually do have something. I went to. I went to the game last night. Yeah, it's a one nothing game in the third period. Were you guys there? No there last night.
David Drucker
I was there. Yeah.
Ethan
They started the Wave in a one nothing game in the third period. And I want to ask DJ about this because this goes on under the behavior report column. That's bad behavior by the fans there. It's a one nothing game. I'm trying to watch the game and people are doing the wave like it's, you know, we're up or something.
David Drucker
They played Peppers before the third.
Ethan
Oh, maybe that's why we lost.
David Drucker
So yeah, a double whammy by the by the Panthers entertainment staff and the fans.
Roy Bellamy
Faux pas.
David Drucker
Yes. Losing to what? The second worst team in the Western Conference.
Ethan
I mean, you could make an argument.
Roy Bellamy
There aren't many that have less points than the Panthers, but Nashville is one of them.
David Drucker
Yeah, that's. That's not good. You got 11 games and 11 game 11 home games and 12 games.
Roy Bellamy
Four teams in the west with less points in Florida.
David Drucker

DJ Bean and Pete Blackburn are co host of the what Chaos podcast. It is produced by Shonda Paz. Is an excellent, excellent podcast. They do a better job than we do. All right. And the one thing that I can swag.
Roy Bellamy
We don't get swag.
David Drucker
Yeah, we don't exactly.
Ethan
It's my favorite hockey show.
David Drucker
I aspire to getting free stuff. Yes, they get free stuff. I don't get enough free stuff. We don't get enough free stuff around here. How do you guys do it?
DJ Bean
Well, first of all, I just caught a glimpse of a jersey. Is that a Seth Jones winter class?
Ethan
Dude? I'm telling you right now, dj when you guys mentioned on the show that you're buying a Seth Jones Winter Classic jersey, I had already purchased a Seth Jones Winter Classic jersey, and I was like, I cannot wait to have DJ on the show so that we can talk about the fact that we both have Seth Jones Winter Classic jerseys. I want the story of why you have a seth Jones Winter 2 now. Seth Jones Winter Classic jerseys.
DJ Bean
Absolutely. First, I'll answer Roy's question.
David Drucker
We.
DJ Bean
A lot of people don't understand that, yes, we do get some stuff sent to us, but so much of the stuff on our set has been purchased by Pete. And I, like, it would be embarrassing if I told you how little I've netted from this show relative to what we could have netted if we did not buy stuff. At every turn we go, we're obsessed with team stores. We love it. I mean, who doesn't? Sean's caught the bug for sure. We go like, we went to a Chargers game, My Chargers. And we went nuts in that team store. I'm a Chargers fan. Those guys don't even care about the Chargers, and they're going nuts in there. So, yes, we have. We work with a lot of good companies and brands, so we certainly do get some stuff. But you would be surprised by the percentage of the stuff on our set that is just no sale. Just, like, bought out of pocket, 100% price from Pete and myself. As for. As for the Seth Jones Winter Classic jersey, I'm a Seth Jones guy. Always been a Seth Jones guy. We had Emily Kaplan on last yesterday, and she was saying, you know, like, nobody thought the Blackhawks were going to trade Seth Jones. And I was like, hand up, two years running, I've been saying a playoff team like the Panthers should go out and trade for Seth Jones. Like, I love Seth Jones. He eats minutes. I'm very. I'm very big into Very good players. Like, I love elite players. I love like top end players. But like, Seth Jones is a very good player. And when a big name or a high draft pick is not elite, people decide they stink. And that's just wrong. Seth Jones is a very good player. So. I love the Winter Classic jerseys. Last year got that Seth Jones one after the game. Oddly, he was terrible in that game and demanded a trade. Following it, not long following it, but I still got it and I loved it. I got the A sewn on it. It's one of my favorite jerseys. And then when these Panthers Winter Classic jerseys came out, which I think we can all agree are beautiful, I was like, I gotta get one. I'm gonna Marchand and Pete and Sean were like, the hell you are. You're getting another Seth Jones Winter Classic jersey. So before I knew it, in the mail was a Seth Jones Winter Classic jersey. And I love it. You're rocking it.
Ethan
Are you coming? Are you coming for the Winter Classic? Like, should we. Is this a matching scenario? Should we match for the Winter Classic? If you're coming down.
David Drucker
What the hell is the matter with you, brother?
DJ Bean
I'm. I'm not as of this moment. But something's come up where we might be able to go. I think Pete has a scheduling thing so he can't go. And we don't really do stuff without each other. So I would guess I'm. I would say that I'm doubtful. But if I go. We said the last winter class we went to where like, we gotta also get tickets. We do the. Of course we go with credentials and we sit in the press box and it's nice, but one of these, I'm like, damn. Like, I just want to be among the, the people in my Seth Jones Jersey. Just looking 100 out of a hundred.
Roy Bellamy
I like it.
David Drucker
What you think about the. The Rangers win a Classic jersey? I mean, all it is is just the road version of the Centennial jersey.
Ethan
Yeah.
DJ Bean
I mean, first time for everything. The Rangers did not do something interesting. It's. It shocked me. I. I could not believe it. It is a good jersey. We have to say. It's not very creative, but it's good. It's just like, I don't know, like, would you rather be the Rangers who have a 10 out of 10 jersey and will only generally do kind of slight variations of it, or would you rather be the Celtics who have a 10 out of 10 jersey and every now and then they'll be like, we got gold jerseys now. We got, we got like black and green jerseys now. And everyone's like, worse, yeah, that's worse. Don't do that. So you're kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Roy Bellamy
So D.J. something happened in the Panthers game last night. They lost to Nashville in overtime, but I think it was in the third period. Philip Forsberg tried something that is becoming fairly common these days and it's a Michigan goal. And we'll put it up here for you. Bob defended it beautifully. It was almost reaction for Bob to just pop his glove as soon as he saw what's going on right here. You see him snap before he's even snapped his head around. He already had his glove up. I thought that was perfect. My question to you is, is the Michigan now outdated? Is it over? Are we over it? Is it so easy that goalies have it in their repertoire to stop it? Do we need the next Michigan?
DJ Bean
We've been trying to figure that out on our show for a while. Like is the Michigan over? I think it will honestly get cooler the more like Philip Forsberg is no spring chicken. He's not old, but he's no spring chicken. I think that if it's not just the Trevor Zegras and Connor Bedard's doing it, I think that it actually becomes cooler and not in the way that like I think it's cool when I do 6, 7 as a 5,000 year old. I think that if you have older players trying the Michigan, it's kind of interesting, but you hit on. What I like about it are our friend Steve Peters, who's one of the former Coyotes video coach, like the best hockey analyst in the world. For my money. He has been very big on stand up. Just like yelling at the goalies like stand up.
David Drucker
Reverse.
DJ Bean
VH has taken over the world and you don't always need to be in that position. Sometimes standing up is the better play. And Bob didn't stand up, but at least he was accounting for the top corner of the net there because you see so many goals that are now scored by players banking on a goalie being down. So I like that players are trying to out think it. And I like the goalies now finally we saw it last night with Bob, are kind of starting to answer for it.
David Drucker
Dj, your team, the Edmonton Oilers, they beat the Seattle Kraken 9 to 4 last night. But the way the season is going, what are they doing?
DJ Bean
It's weird because the Panthers and Oilers obviously are intertwined for a lot of reasons. Reasons that you lot probably prefer.
David Drucker
And.
DJ Bean
That don't make me super thrilled. But going into the year, I was pushing the idea of a fallow year, which in agriculture is when you don't plant anything and you don't grow stuff and you say, you know what, this year we're gonna let the soil like get all its nutrients back, be in tip top shape for when we grow stuff again. And I didn't know if it was going to be this year, but I knew it had to happen at some point. I didn't know if it was going to happen this year, next year, whenever. But at some point during the Marchand contract, we'll say the Panthers were going to need to take a year off and, and a year off from like a deep playoff run and then come back strong and with a couple of new guys and kick the ass they typically, typically kick. What I did not expect is that like a lot of playoff teams seem to be doing that. I don't know why. Panthers, you can at least understand it, given their injuries. The Oilers have been weird. The jets have been weird. In the case of the Oilers, no one's going to remember this, but before the season, the athletic put out rankings, like statistical researched rankings on all of the strengths and weaknesses of all these NHL teams. And the Oilers were ranked the number one defensive team in the NHL, which I was like, I love the Oilers and I kind of see why. You mean they're a good defensive team, especially in the playoffs, because they shut that the hell down. I don't know if they're the best defensive team, but I guess we'll find out. They have been defensively dreadful this season and there's been a lot of nights where the offense hasn't been there, there. I mean, when Jack Roslovic, who was basically a free player, they got, after the season started, got injured, I was like, oh, no, there goes one of their best offensive players. So the short answer is the kind of cliche of not enough guys have really shown up this year. They were without Zach Hyman for a while, but he's back and he's really starting to get going. Ryan Nugent Hopkins was a big miss because he's been playing some of his best hockey of the season this year. So without him, that really, really hurt. They've been without Jake Wallman for a long time. Everybody makes it about the goaltending and yes, I would love to upgrade the goaltending if I'm the Oilers, but it really is not their biggest problem. And I think it's such an oversimplification to blame everything on Stuart Skinner, like, yes. He's got probably like an.890 save percentage, which is not good. Calvin Pickard's been way, way, way worse. But ultimately the issue has been team defense. It's been dreadful the first half of last season. Darnell Nurse was one of the best defensemen in the NHL. That's not happening right now. Matthias Etcombe has his good days, he has his bad days. Evan Bouchard, as you know, has. He doesn't have good days and bad days. He has best player on the ice days and he has unemployable days. So they've been inconsistent and, or hurt. I think they're going to turn it around. I think that they'll. They'll probably have a harder time turning it around and they haven't played good hockey the last few games at least, but I think they'll have a harder time kind of recovering from their early season slump than say the Panthers will. Because I think the Panthers have some catchable teams in front of them. I don't know how many. Like, there are some obvious ones in the west that'll drop out, but not a lot.
Roy Bellamy
DJ One last thing before we let you go as we're getting shooed out of the studio here.
David Drucker
Yeah, the dono's out with pitchforks over here.
Roy Bellamy
But no, I wanted to get your take on. You know, they're talking about how the Olympic ice rink might be too small or smaller than they expected. We talk about all the time how much we love NHL playoff hockey, Stanley cup playoff hockey. Could we be getting ice the size of the NHL Stanley cup type intensity, but with the Olympic, like, type of gravitas attached to it? Like, I'm trying to spin this into a positive here.
DJ Bean
Well, I believe we're getting ice the size of the Stanley cup, shrinking it, just getting smaller and smaller and smaller, which Pete's very happy about that because he's like, small ice, small boys. Put Cole Caulfield on the team. He's rattling off all his short kings he wants on the team. Sean Moore wants like a bunch of Tage Thompsons kind of crashing into walls, having stuff on that doesn't fit them. But I think that this is going to be. I mean, we all saw four nations set the table for what could be an incredible Olympics. The biggest problem, of course, other than the dinky ice, is that you can't fight in the Olympics. And I personally don't like fighting in hockey. I loved the fighting in four nations. It seems so much more genuine. And the Kachuk of It all. I, I know that we're, we're mad that the Kachuks have a podcast and that's the end of the world. But I think the, like, the just the emotion that so many players across multiple countries have brought to this, it's gonna be amazing. I cannot wait. Pete said something yesterday about like, we should do an event. We should do a watch party for these. And I was like, no, we shouldn't. I want to go to a bar and watch with the people and scream my head off. I don't want to have any responsibilities. I want this to be a blast. And I think it's gonna be.
Ethan
I want to be drunk at like 11:30. I want to be drunk at like 11:30 in the morning, you know, watching us play, like, Latvia or something.
DJ Bean
Proud to be in America.
Ethan
That's a crazy accusation.
David Drucker
That is a crazy accusation. Well, you can't drink at 11:30 in the morning.
Roy Bellamy
Flood of cornflake in it.
David Drucker
All right, well, dj, we appreciate you joining us today as they just like that they're coming in. They're throwing us out, man. I don't appreciate that. But doing the work.

David Drucker
Yeah, everybody's wearing them. Yeah, yeah, they're everywhere.

All right, it's time to go into the Panthers den in Florida is a shell of themselves. They have now lost five of the last six and four of those came in regulation. If, in fact, if it wasn't for Nashville, they would have zero points in the last three weeks.
Roy Bellamy
They're all on home ice.
David Drucker
Like, what happened I said two weeks ago, you know, when the Panthers came off of that west coast trip, that this would be this section of the season would be the one that turns it around for them. Excellent home team at the beginning of the season. 11 home games in 12 games.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah.
David Drucker
And it has not worked out.
Roy Bellamy
It started out well. I mean, they won three of the first four and it seemed like they were starting to get some build some momentum. They were playing good hockey. They were figuring things out just in terms of getting the puck in the net. And whatever happened around Thanksgiving, I mean, it started with the Edmonton game, but Bob was just bad in that game.
David Drucker
Yeah.
Roy Bellamy
So he put them behind the eight ball right away. Then they got that big Win in Nashville and you're like, okay, you know, we're okay. They're going to be fine. And four straight home losses where two of which they had two goal leads.
David Drucker
Yeah. One of which did not have a top six forward in Carter Verhegee as he went on paternity.
Roy Bellamy
Yes.
David Drucker
For about two days.
Roy Bellamy
Congratulations to the Verhadi family on the birth of a little boy.
David Drucker
Yeah. Came back strong. As. As I mentioned with dj, you knew he was the baby bump. The baby bucket.
Ethan
Knew he was gonna do it.
David Drucker
Yeah.
Roy Bellamy
Yes.
David Drucker
He ended up with a goal. He ended up.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah. Four or five shots in the first period.
David Drucker
Yes. In fact, I told everybody on Twitter X as it's called now, apparently, the baby bun theory. Like, bet on shots.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah.
David Drucker
Bet on anytime points. Got a goal and hit the shot.
Roy Bellamy
Threshold in the first place.
Ethan
He did.
David Drucker
He won money in the first period. Yes, in the first period. So he got out of the way. Maybe you should have scored in the third period. But yes, he got all the way. So, yeah, the Panthers right now just not looking good and hopefully they'll try to climb out his hole.
Ethan
Yeah. It's just. You can only survive so much. Right. Like, Barkov and Kachuk is one thing, but then you add in loose Orion and Kulakov, Gadjevic, Nosek, Schwint. There's one more. Is there one more?
I think I got all of them, but anyway. Yeah, it's just too much right now. It's just too much. There's too much depth missing. There's calling up guys from, you know, rookies. Jack Devine, they're playing stud. Nica, who hasn't played in the NHL in two years.
David Drucker
Petrie got scratched.
Ethan
It's just. Petri got scratched for Sobrango. It's just too much right now. Like, there's too much attrition for the Panthers to handle. I mean, you. You see a lot of these games and it's like. Like the Philly game I was at, they go up to nothing, and then they get dominated for two periods in. You know, they go up to nothing in the first period and you're feeling really good. And then they get dominated for two periods, end up losing 4, 2. The Calgary game, they go up to nothing. Right out of the chute, they get dominated. They end up losing five, three. Like, it's. It's the same game right now, and it's very frustrating.
David Drucker
They do not have the players to play their style of game correct.
Ethan
They're Gadjevic. Like, it's so key at the bottom of the lineup, like, you know, they're doing as good as they can, but when you miss gadget and no sick and then greeters playing up on the third line, which has been effective. Like, I, I love AJ Greer, the way he's able to flip between the third and the fourth line, but it's just. Yeah, he had a rough night last night. One really bad shift. The one where he took the penalty.
David Drucker
At the end of two turnovers before.
Ethan
Yeah, penalty, yeah, that was, that was really rough. But, guys, you know, I, I, the last time we had a show, I said, let's take a deep breath because they were playing well. Let's take a deep breath because when you really look at it, they're five points out. It's December. A lot of these teams are playing at ridiculous paces, and they're not going to play at these paces all season like the Flyers and the Penguins. You look at it right now, the Metro Division is the stronger division in the Eastern Conference, which is never really the case the last few years. That won't last. The Panthers are only five points out in the division to the Montreal Canadiens. I don't know.
David Drucker
Is that sustainable?
Ethan
Is The Bruins having 32 points? Sustainable?
David Drucker
No. They're already in the middle of the division.
Roy Bellamy
We're at the point now where, like, you can't just not write off teams saying, well, they're having a good start 30 games in.
Ethan
Like, you're right about that.
Roy Bellamy
We got to start looking at some of these teams like serious contenders.
Ethan
The Panthers also have three games in hand on the Bruins, and they're six points back.
Roy Bellamy
Oh, we're back.
Ethan
I know we're doing it.
Roy Bellamy
We're back.
Ethan
But if they win all three of those games in hand, they're even on points. So it's like we're doing the math again. I know it's boring. It's annoying. Nobody wants to do it, but you have to do it. And like I said earlier in the show, if they can just get to the Olympic break and be in striking distance, they'll make a charge late, they'll find their way into the playoffs. But right now, it's frustrating. They're a hard watch. I don't enjoy watching the 20, 25, 26 Florida Panthers right now. And how could you? They're missing seven regular players in their lineup.
David Drucker
All right, they close out the home stand against Columbus and the Islanders. Now, that's far and away two better teams than the Nashville Predators, who they lost in overtime, too. So whatever. We'll see if they bounce back from that. That lawsuit. They could not close the show against Nashville, even though Bob played pretty damn well. It's just too bad. Thanks to Mike Fuentes and Jason in the back. Thank you to GJ Bean for joining us. I appreciate you, brother. Thank you for joining us. And Ethan, Good job, Rosie. Feel better. That's David Drawer. My name is Roy Bellamy. We have two shows left this year. Two shows. So.

This episode of The Hockey Show dives into NHL standings post-Thanksgiving, ongoing injury drama, the Olympics rink fiasco, and the evolving world of fun and fails in the hockey universe. There's lively discussion around food, NHL quirks, injuries on and off the ice, rule changes, jersey talk, and a full dose of banter. The show’s highlight is an extended interview with DJ Bean from What Chaos, who brings wit and deep hockey knowledge to conversations on topics like the “Michigan” goal, hockey fashion, and the peculiar vibes of 2025 NHL.
The episode is lively, irreverent, full of sharp one-liners and long-running inside jokes—balancing deep hockey insight with a fun, fan-focused, sometimes chaotic energy. Hosts are knowledgeable but playful, unafraid to poke fun at themselves, the league, and each other.
This is an energetic, informative, and highly entertaining edition of The Hockey Show—the sort that covers not only the news and stats but also the culture, oddities, and personality quirks that make hockey unique. Whether you’re tuning in for Panthers pain, quirky NHL stories, Olympic drama, the latest on goalie fights/goals, or to hear why Seth Jones jerseys are a must-have, you’ll find something to love.
Special thanks to DJ Bean for elevating the episode with his expertise and humor!
