See homedepot.com licensenumbers Are we tankered or not? This is the hockey. That's David Drawer, the Hockey News, Rose and Ethan in the shipping container. My name is Roy Bellamy. This is the Hockey Show. You can find us on our YouTube page at the Hockey Show DLS, on TikTok at the Hockey Show 7 and on X Instagram and threads at Hockey Show DLS. The Hockey show was off last week because I was busy getting beaten by a bunch of kids in a barbecue contest. You can watch that video on The Levitage Show. YouTube. By the way, Dave, Jody and Chico, who were a part of the Meet Dave team, along with myself, we deserve the better fate. We were better than those damn kids. All right, let's get that straight right now. And you can check that video out as I said, because it was produced by and edited by Rosie with the. With the intent on making me look like a jackass. Thank you very much there, Rosie.
Rosie
No, you did not look like a jackass. I'm so sorry.
Rose
Y' all know you're not. You're not sorry.
Rosie
You did you dip. You talked. I just filmed.
Rose
Okay, well, you talked, too. What are you talking?
Roy Bellamy
I talk. I film. It's not that hard.
Rose
No, I mean, you talked, too. You had a microphone next to you.
Rosie
Yeah, yeah, I actually got a fish. Well, Roy got the fish. And I tried to take out the thing. It's very difficult. Like, the spines go to you. And then Roy was like, you just killed her.
David Demoshek
You let Rose around a sharp object.
Rose
She picked it up. I was, oh, my God, dude.
Rosie
But Roy was like, you just killed her. That's how I was. Like, no, don't die on me, fish.
David Demoshek
Nemo. No.
Rose
Nemo. No. So, yeah, I took the hook out and threw the fish back.
David Demoshek
I would have been the same.
Rosie
No, I took it.
Ethan
You didn't.
Rose
I did take it.
Rosie
No, you never. You didn't take it for anyone. Because I did.
Rose
I took the hook out of the fish. Literally.
Rosie
The video says, roll the tape.
David Demoshek
There's one, like, line of demarcation on whether this was a successful trip or not. What did you lose last year? You lost the hat. You lost your wallet.
Rosie
But we had to go fishing in,
David Demoshek
like, the dump for your wallet, didn't you?
Rosie
Yeah. No, this time. This time I was staying in my car. I just had one backpack and my hat was floating. So whenever I lost it, we could go get it back.
Rose
Well, Dave had his hat fly off first, which was not something I was expecting.
David Demoshek
No, that's a rookie move.
Rose
Yeah. That would be her move.
David Demoshek
Right. He probably felt a little embarrassed, but
Rosie
it's my second time, so he's not rookie.
David Demoshek
Well, that's why you didn't lose your hat this time.
Rose
This is sophomore time. Anyway, as I said, there was no hockey show last week. That meant there was no trade deadline talk. So that we missed last week. We might as well talk about the trade deadline now. So what was the biggest surprise and then one of the bigger moves that you thought that happened last week, Friday, David.
David Demoshek
I mean, I was a little surprised, I guess, that the Panthers didn't do
Rose
much, and we'll talk about that more in a little bit. But, yeah.
David Demoshek
Oh, excuse me.
Rose
I'm sorry. I should have said that first. Wondering what was. I was forgetting to say something. Oh, yes. We had Panther then we could talk about the Panthers moves in a little bit. But yes, as you were saying.
David Demoshek
Let's see. Top trade deadline moves. There wasn't really any big splashes.
Roy Bellamy
I was just gonna say there were no big surprises.
David Demoshek
Racking my brain for anything. Jumped out and smacked me in the. Why don't you go ahead then? Because you kind of.
Roy Bellamy
The John Carlson move.
Rose
Yes. Well, that was it. 17 years with the Washington Capitals. He gets traded the biggest. That is Anaheim. I'm sorry, Anaheim.
David Demoshek
But the biggest move is a guy who's, like, been in the lead for two decades.
Rose
Yeah. I mean, there are people, there's a generation of fans that don't know this Capitals team without Alexander or Veskin or John Carlson.
David Demoshek
Right.
Rose
That's.
David Demoshek
They've been around forever.
Roy Bellamy
I mean, I think a lot of the big business this year got done before the deadline. So the Jar A trade, the Quinn Hughes trade, obviously occurred. When was that? Back in December or November. You know, The John Carlson trade was the surprising trade because nobody really had him on their radars. And I love that move for Anaheim to go get some veteran experience to pair with all the young talent that they have out there, there especially at their blue line. Like, I think that move will really help them a lot. But overall, like, it was a pretty quiet deadline, guys. The most surprising thing to me, and you guys can tell me what you think about this, is the lack of movement from some of these teams, especially in my opinion, Carolina. I don't understand why Carolina, they're. The east is wide open. It's right there for the taking for them and they didn't go out and do anything except get DeLaurier. I don't know why the Oilers didn't make another move in net like I thought they might after the jar thing went so south. But yeah, I think the big surprises were the lack of movement rather than the actual movement itself.
Rose
Well, what would Carolina need in this situation?
Roy Bellamy
They always need a second line center and goaltending. Like they still just have been calling out for a second line center for years and they can't get rid of Jesper Cat Coconiemi. They just got Delorier like Ehlers. It looks like he's going to be out for a while. Like that happened right after the deadline where they did again, nothing virtually like, man, they just, they just never go for it. They always hold on to all these prospects that they have and they never go out and make a big move.
David Demoshek
I think the big move or not the big move, but the move Carolina should have made was made by Colorado instead. And Colorado is probably going to win the Stanley cup. And that was acquiring Nick Wa from Toronto. Yeah, like a great two way center can play, you know, middle six type role. He's really what Carolina could use, just depth. You can pop some offense in there. Colorado, I mean last year they got Brock Nelson, now they get Nick Wa. They're already a wagon with Nathan McKinnon, Cale McCarr. They got two amazing goalies with the name Wooden, their last name.
Roy Bellamy
I mean, I thought you were going to say Nazem Kadri. You said Nick Watt, but I thought you were going to say Nazim Kadri for the Colorado Avalanche.
David Demoshek
And a guy that's also a good
Roy Bellamy
move the Hurricane should have gotten because that's another guy that could be there. I mean he would be the 2C on Carolina. He's obviously the 2C in Colorado as well, unless he's playing on the wing. But he's just That's a great player and that was a great move by Colorado in my opinion, to bring that guy back.
David Demoshek
He.
Roy Bellamy
It feels like he's been the missing link for them for a few years since they last won a cup and some of the struggles they've had since.
Rose
Do you have anything else on the
David Demoshek
tree deadline next year will be more fun probably.
Rose
Rose, you just went.
David Demoshek
Yeah, no, really just a blah trade deadline.
Roy Bellamy
It was. Yeah, it was. We were kind of waiting around that
David Demoshek
trade deadline to not be around.
Roy Bellamy
I think we were waiting around for a big move to happen and it was like Justin Falk going to Detroit, you know what I mean? Was the big move.
David Demoshek
I'm excited to see how the playoffs roll out though because like now obviously the Panthers probably not going to be around. We're going to be able to what we haven't done in a few years which is kind of sit back and enjoy it and analyze it a little
Rose
bit different and rest.
David Demoshek
Yeah, well, we don't have to travel, you know, cross continent, multiple flights. We don't have to do that. Yeah, that'll be nice.
Rose
I don't know.
Roy Bellamy
Puncher's chance all of a sudden guys,
Rosie
the most interesting thing that happened in the tread deadline was Roy trying to get service in the. In the boat because we, we didn't have service so we couldn't know anything. So he was like where do I get my service?
Rose
Yeah, I was reaching out in the air.
David Demoshek
My guy, my phone is going to
Roy Bellamy
help ask you guys one more hockey question real quick.
Rose
No.
David Demoshek
Okay.
Rose
No, go ahead.
Roy Bellamy
Robert Thomas staying. What did you guys think about that? Because that was the big name out there that was kind of like could be moved. St. Louis is kind of in the middle right now. Nobody really kind of knows what direction they're going to go in. There were some teams out there that could have used them. What did you guys think about him saying put.
Rose
Yeah, I mean what are the blues thing. I don't. They're not going to make the playoffs this year, so. No, I mean they're effectively sellers. So the Blues at the moment are.
David Demoshek
They're six points out of a playoff spot.
Rose
I don't think two more games played
David Demoshek
than San Jose who I think I had as a playoff team.
Ethan
Yeah.
Rose
Yes you did.
David Demoshek
But yeah, I was a little surprised too Ethan, because Bennington was on the market. He didn't go anywhere. Thomas has been on fire though. Like I understand like he would have
Roy Bellamy
drawn 26 year old center. I understand wanting to keep him and build around him as well, but they could have gotten. Especially with the prices at this deadline.
Ethan
My God.
David Demoshek
Yep.
Rose
Okay. Several illegal things happened recently. First, the. The Malkin slash on the shoulder of Darlene and the Penguin Sabers.
David Demoshek
Not his face.
Rose
Not his face. It was his shoulder. They said it was his shoulder, but. Yeah. Dude, look at. He just got whacked. What? The pads are on his. On his shoulder. It was not a match penalty for high sticking. It was a slash. That could have been. That could have been. Either way, that was a full fledged two hand chop. That was. That was ridiculous. Uh, so Malkin ended up with a five game suspension on that one. On Tuesday, the oil is an avalanche got together and Nathan McKinnon, while skating parallel to the goal line, tipped the shot wide. Okay. But his momentum carried him through the crease and collided with Connor Ingram. Um, but the refs gave McKinnon a major for goal tuner interference in the game misconduct. The major was rescinded by the NHL, by the way, so he won't be getting a suspension if he had another one sooner or later. And last. I'm sorry, go ahead.
David Demoshek
No, you can't have your heart trophy candidate. Missing games like that, it's just not good.
Rose
No. No. And last night, Racco Gudis trying to poke check the puck away from Auston. Matthews collided with the knee of Matthews. Gudas was given a game misconduct. The Maple Leafs. I just never responded to the captain or the best player on the team getting injured like that. On knee. On knee. Collision. Never responded. Not a single fight. Tussle on Raccoo Goodis. I don't know if they were intimidated by him or anything like that, but you got to step up for your captain and they did not do that. So Gudas got a. Is going to have a phone hearing, not an in person hearing. So that pretty much means there's a suspension coming. A suspension coming, but it's going to be five games or less, most likely. What did you think about these three incidents that happened?
David Demoshek
You didn't even mention Brandon Hagel going after Rasmus Stalin. He got fined. Yes. I don't know what. Rasmus, darling. That people off. Yeah. No, look, this hockey, I mean the McKinnon thing I didn't think was intentional. So I'm glad that like. And look, I'm very hypersensitive to violence against goaltenders, but I. I thought that was okay. The Goudis thing, knee hits are, you know, they're always funky. Radco Gutis, I think he's cleaned up his reputation over the last five, six Years. Like when he, when he first went to Florida, it was like, oh, God, Raccoo Gutis. But he was, he toned it down. Like he's a violent, physical player, but he's not headhunting. Like he may. May have been in early of his
Rose
career, but it wasn't even knee hunting in that situation. It was an attempt at a poke check.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, I don't know about that, boy.
Rose
Okay, maybe hit.
Roy Bellamy
I think colliding with Auston Matthews knee was a light way to put it. He. He kind of stuck his leg out.
Rose
That was putting yourself in a position
David Demoshek
to get hurt too, though. Like, it's not like you can just stick your leg out and you're like, okay, I'll be fine. Like, that's a dangerous place. So when anybody accuses somebody of doing that on purpose, I always. Not saying Ethan's wrong, I just always pause because, like, you could really bleep up your own leg. Your own knee there too. It's happened before.
Rose
I mean, it's like Nikita Kutrov in that knee incident against Matthew Tkachuk. I mean, what we say about that,
David Demoshek
I've put that to the back of my mind. I have plenty of thoughts about sensitive time and just glad Chucky turned out to be okay after that.
Rose
Sure.
Roy Bellamy
Plenty of thoughts about Nikita Kucherov's antics on the ice.
David Demoshek
You're a big Kucherov fan. I'm surprised you didn't wear Kucherov jersey today.
Rose
He's a dirty player.
Roy Bellamy
He's a very dirty player.
Rose
I mean, straight up.
Rosie
Rosie, I got something to say. Matthews.
Rose
That's why you put your finger up.
Rosie
Yeah, that happened to Matthews. That's what's gonna get him out in two years. And he's gonna come to the Florida Panthers. That's why he's gonna be out of the team.
Rose
You're saying that Auston Matthews is gonna be a Panther?
David Demoshek
Auston Matthews, Brady Tachuk, they're all coming down, all the Canadian captains.
Rosie
He doesn't want to be in toront.
David Demoshek
So I think the American captains in Canada, they're coming to the Panthers after
Rosie
the two years, he's got to be like, oh, Panthers, bye.
Rose
Unbelievable. Okay, so everybody's coming to the Panthers
Rosie
in two years, man. If I'm not dead.
Rose
If you're. I'm sure you're going to be. Don't put that on the universe if
David Demoshek
you're not or if he's not.
Rosie
Oh, me.
Rose
Don't put that out in the universe, woman.
David Demoshek
You go to church every Sunday. You're going to be fine. It's us sinners that we got to work on.
Rose
I go to church every Sunday.
Rosie
Dying is not bad.
David Demoshek
Huh?
Rosie
Dying is not bad.
Rose
Well, for you, maybe. Of course.
Rosie
Because I know where I'm going.
Roy Bellamy
This has taken a turn.
Ethan
Yeah, right.
Rose
I mean, he's gonna die from a neon knee contact.
David Demoshek
Ethan, do you have any thoughts on this existential crisis that we're having right now?
Roy Bellamy
No, I've got too much going on right now. I got a lot going on. I'm juggling a lot of things. Let's go.
David Demoshek
Get Percy in here.
Roy Bellamy
Percy's under the desk. Percy's under the desk.
Rose
Let me get her. Percy's gonna live forever. The Panthers.
Roy Bellamy
Correct?
Ethan
Correct.
Rose
I'm trying to talk here. Woman. All right. The Panthers trade deadline saw them lose a player. That was Jeff Petrie. He. The team got a seventh round draft pick from Minnesota for him. They also made another deal with Minnesota, Vinnie Hinestroza. So they got him, but they did not deal with Sergey Pobronski or AJ Greer, and instead they would try to negotiate new contracts with them. They're going to have to decide whether to shut down Brad Marchand or actually play Alexander Barkov at the end of the season just for him to get, I guess, reps or whatever. They still have that protected top 10 pick that they will be able to keep if they, again, are in the worst 10 teams in the league. So there's a lot of variables up the air for a team that seems to be very prideful that do. That does not seem that like they want to tank at all, given the results in both games versus Detroit and last night versus Columbus. What say you, David?
David Demoshek
As it stands, the Panthers are the 12th worst team in the league, but they're only two points, two points out of dropping all the way to, like, seventh. It's a tough situation to analyze, just be. Or to predict, rather, just because, like you know, as you said, the Panthers are full of pride. They're going to go out there and they're going to give whatever they have every night. It's just how much do they have to give and who can they put on the ice at this point? We've seen Sam Reinhardt miss time. We've seen Anton Lindell miss time. We know that Brad Marchand's gonna miss extended time. Barkov is skating, but is he gonna play? I don't know. Does it matter? Like, getting reps maybe? You know, you're gonna have to deal with the salary cap soon because Seth Jones is about to come back. That's going to cost them money against the cap. I think they've got like two and a half million. They're gonna have to make like another 1.3 or whatever it is to make room for Seth. But it's just so many balls are in the air right now for a season that's, you know, essentially over. I think at this point you're just setting up for. You're setting yourself up as best you can for next year.
Rose
Yeah, we saw the lineups against the home game versus Detroit and last night they are. They are playing the young players right now and yeah, good on Benning coming in for his first game. He got the game winning assist in overtime.
David Demoshek
Yeah, that was nice. Look, he's somebody who was drafted in 2020. So he's been around for a while. High high end prospect as the Panthers brought him in. He's been really good for Charlotte. He's been a consistent source of offense from their blue line over the last I think like three or four weeks. He really turned it up in terms of offensive contributions. So it's good to see that they're giving him a chance to show what he can do at this level. They could use young guys that are going to be cheap moving forward. So the more ahl, the more draft pick type guys that they could bring in and they can have contribute at the NHL level, the better.
Roy Bellamy
Percy has a lot of thoughts.
Rose
Hold on, we don't have time for this.
Roy Bellamy
No, I actually have a lot of thoughts on the Panthers. First of all, I think just drop Percy. I think Bill Zito sent a clear message that the Panthers truly believe that if they had not suffered all these injuries this year, especially the Barkov one, they could have and would have won the Stanley Cup. Yeah, and I think he sent a clear message that they think they can just do it again next year with pretty much the same exact squad. They'll have little bit of financial flexibility to make some ads probably at the bottom of the roster, I would assume.
Rose
Oh, by the way, the cap's going
Roy Bellamy
up and the cap's going up and they're probably going to have to add another goaltender next year. So we'll see what they try and do. And obviously if they end up with the top 10 pick, maybe the ball's bounce away and you get somebody really special. But anyway, that's besides the point. I think the other point is just.
Rose
That's besides the point.
Roy Bellamy
No, that I think Rose just stumbled
David Demoshek
into a situation that's going to piss the entire world.
Roy Bellamy
It would be amazing. It would be the greatest thing.
David Demoshek
It'd be worse than when Crosby and Flower went to the Penguins back to back.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, it would be amazing. They ended up. You. You miss out on the playoffs, you take a year off in the middle of your window and you end up with the number one overall pick and a player that some had compared, like put in that generational type tier in Gavin McKenna. But I think it's pretty clear to the Panthers they believe in what they're doing. They believe in Sergey Bobrovsky. Look at how he's played in the last two starts since the trade deadline. Look at how the Panthers have played as well. And. And they're coming back and they're going to remind everybody. They're going to use the rest of this year to remind everybody we're not going anywhere.
Rose
All right, so let's say they do end up in the worst 10. They keep the pick. They don't get number one pick. All right, so they don't get Gavin McKenna. Do you go after. Do you draft the goaltender or do you go with a position player in whatever spot they're going to end up getting?
David Demoshek
Honestly, I think if the Panthers end up keeping their end up with their draft pick, if it ends up being a top 10 pick, unless the McKenna situation happens, I'd actually be kind of surprised if they ended up making that pick. I agree. I think that's a pretty solid asset. This offseason is going to be a little funky in terms of free agency. It's not like a huge market. So it would not surprise me at all to see that turn into a movable asset for Bill Zito. However, if they do make the pick, I would say you get the like right now, this draft are going to be some decent talent in the top, top half of the top draft, the top top half of the first round speed. David.
Rose
Christ, it's been a long morning.
David Demoshek
Yeah.
Ethan
So.
David Demoshek
But no, like, I think ultimately the Panthers are in such a win now mode for the next several years that bringing in somebody that couldn't contribute fairly soon almost goes against what they've been trying to do. So hopefully they have that asset to move, but we'll see how it plays out.
Roy Bellamy
That win. No, now mentality is why I think you saw guys like AJ Greer and Jesper Boquist and others stick around because they know that AJ Greer is more valuable to winning a championship next year. Should he extend with the Panthers, which all signs point to the fact that he wants to. They know he's more valuable to winning a championship next year than a first round pick would be. Unless obviously that first round pick is Gavin McKenna, which if you're trading Greer for a first round pick, that's not happening. You know you're getting a late first round pick probably because you're getting it from a playoff team. The other thing is I think they should move that, use that first round pick. Like I would go after Jesper Walstead. That's a guy I would go after because there's a little bit of clutter in that goaltending situation in Minnesota right now. He's a young goalie. He can be the future of your team and he has shown he can be the number one in net in Minnesota in my opinion this year. That's a guy I would go after with a top 10 pick.
Rose
All right, it's time for puck luck brought to you by DraftKings. DraftKings. The crown is. The crown is yours, David. Go ahead.
David Demoshek
Only two games on the slate tonight, but I think we dissected some value. So let's get started with the Edmonton Oilers St. Louis Blues game. We're going to go. Evan Bouchard over two and a half shots on goal. He's hit that in four of his last six. The Blues give up 28 shots per game and the third most shots on goal. Two defensemen. We're also in that game. Going to take Robert Thomas getting a point. Edmonton has given up the most goals in the NHL over the last 10 games and Robert Thomas has points in eight straight. 13 points during that span. Roy, third leg. Joel Hofer over 25 and a half saves. St. Louis is allowing over 30 shots a game over their past 10. Just under 30, 29 and a half shots per game over the last 10 at home. And Edmonton likes to put pucks on that. And just to add a little bit of value, a little sprinkle a little bit of extra to this, we're going to take Bo Horvat in the Kings Islanders game. An alternate line over two and a half shots on goal. He's hit that number in eight of his last nine. The Kings give up the fourth most shots on goal to centers and the seventh most shots to forwards. Total odds on this parlay is plus 575. Let's go make some money.
Rose
All right, it's time for wins and fails. Go ahead, Dave.
David Demoshek
Man, give me a chance to breathe. Goodness.
Rose
I'm sorry. We got.
David Demoshek
We got my win of the week. It's kind of a sad win. Colin Dorgan, this young man lost his mother, his brother and his grandfather in the shooting at the Pawtucket, Rhode island hockey rink a couple weeks ago. He went out and scored the game winning goal for his high school team in their playoff game last week. It was a double overtime goal for Blackstone Valley, sent them to the Rhode Island Interstholastic League Division 2 Boys Hockey Championship game. A very happy moment. The rink went crazy. His teammates just totally mobbed him. It was awesome. So good on Colin. Good for you. Take whatever happiness you can get right now. It's nice to see that the community is really rallying around this family.
Rose
Jared Kisso plays the title character on Shozy. That show has become a giant hit.
David Demoshek
Settle down.
Rose
Yeah, I mean, if you look at my laptop, I got a whole bunch of stickers over here dedicated to the show. So, yeah, that show has become such a giant hit that is now taking the advantage of being a giant hit. They are now barnstorming hockey arenas. They are playing games called the Shoes Classic in the United States and Canada. And Kiso got emotional when the Shorsey Classic hit the destination of his favorite NHL team.
Ethan
Holy smokes.
Rose
This is where my favorite team on planet Earth plays. Hi, everybody.
David Demoshek
My name is Jared Kiso.
Rose
I'm from Listoville, Ontario.
Roy Bellamy
I play Shorzy.
Rose
I want to thank everybody for coming out tonight.
Roy Bellamy
Guys, we are 8, 400 strong in this beautiful, iconic barn. I can't wait to see how loud you guys get.
David Demoshek
Like, he's got such a thick accent.
Rose
Yeah.
Ethan
You know, we've done about a dozen
Roy Bellamy
of these across North America at this point, but this one is particularly special
Rose
to me as a lifelong fan, particularly Flames.
Roy Bellamy
There's a lot of guys on this bench right here that I idolize growing up.
Rose
Gentlemen, I just want to say it
Roy Bellamy
is an absolute honor to share the ice with you tonight. Thank you so much for doing this
Rose
with us as the Flames alumni.
David Demoshek
He's so serious, but I'm just laughing. I can't.
Rose
I never thought I'd get to play in this barn.
Roy Bellamy
And just in case I never get
Rose
to again, I want to say Calgary Flames.
Roy Bellamy
I love this team.
Ethan
I will always love this team. It's Calgary Flames till I die.
Rose
So that was nice. That was nice for Jared to be in a barn, the Saturn Dome, with all the Flames players that I used to look up to and idolize. That's pretty nice. Ethan, what's your win?
Roy Bellamy
My win of the week?
Rose
You got to think about that.
Roy Bellamy
I got to think about it. What was my win of the week this week? Oh, yeah.
David Demoshek
Okay.
Roy Bellamy
The sound is I'm just going to run through this. We were on the. I was watching the broadcast of the Red Wings game on Monday night. The sound is in, but it's going to take too long to download. Sorry, I got thrown off. I'm doing a million things at once right now. Okay, so Bob was shoes in. Friend of the show, obviously legend in the Hockey Chat. The Hockey Chat got its first ever shout out on ESPN from Bob was shoes in. It was a great moment during. Yes, I swear to God. During the Red Wings game. During the Red Wings game on Monday, Bob, they. They Arda did a highlight of the crazy, you know, Lightning Sabers game and they came back to Bob. And Bob told the story of how he got a text in the Hockey chat. I promise the sound is in the system, but we just totally forgot to grab it and whatever. So anyway, Bob, we're playing the clothes. We love you, Bob. You're the absolute best. The voice of the NHL Bob Washoes and giving the chat a shout out. It was awesome.
Rose
All right, we'll play that in the close of the show. Rosie, what? You win. What's your win, Rosie? What are the questions?
Roy Bellamy
It was not that.
Rose
Whatever.
Roy Bellamy
That was.
Rosie
My win is. This is a new movie that is gonna be. That's Sydney Sweeney's mom and it's mom.
David Demoshek
It looks like Sydney Sweeney's mom on the left.
Rosie
No, no, no, that's Angelique Boyer and Barbara. It's a comedy, guys. Go watch the. If you speak Spanish. Woohoo. That's my win of the week.
David Demoshek
I can't appreciate beauty.
Rose
Okay, what's your fail, David?
Ethan
I appreciate beauty, thank you.
Rosie
Come on.
David Demoshek
My fail. Former Sabres enforcer and current TV analyst Rob Ray is not a little guy. He's six feet tall.
Roy Bellamy
Roy.
David Demoshek
He. Yeah, that's nothing to sneeze at. But the other night he had to do an in game interview with Sabres defenseman Logan Stanley, who stands 6 foot 7 without skates on.
Rose
Oh, he's on a box.
David Demoshek
He was on a box. Many little guys. Ethan, we're familiar with the box. We know the box.
Roy Bellamy
I know all about the box, so do you.
David Demoshek
Please play the clip so I can forget that he just said that.
Rose
Yeah. Sound up.
Ethan
No.
David Demoshek
Well, he's talking to him. No, I didn't ask for sound. But look, you see the background shot? He's standing on a good foot and a half tall box. So they can, you know, be eye level and everything. But that's. I don't care if you're an NHL enforcer or a 5 foot 7 podcast host that hurts your ego. My fail is for you, Rob Ray. I'm sorry.
Rose
My fail of the week is Charlie McAvoy's face.
Roy Bellamy
Poor Charlie McAvoy.
Rose
It has been a rough season for McAvoy's mug. Back in November, he took a puck to the face, breaking his jaw. Early February, he caught his Sanders Bill Manus elbow to the jaw when they broke when the Bruins played the Panthers before the Olympics last week. Thursday, called a puck to the face on Tuesday before scoring the game winner versus the Kings. He went to the locker room after Sam Helenius hit him into the glass face first, losing some more, some more of the remaining teeth that he had in the face. In the face. So this is what he had to say about playing through it. You know, I wish the hits would stop coming, honestly. You know, just.
David Demoshek
It's tiring
Rose
my mouth, honestly.
David Demoshek
Can't even feel worse, so.
Rose
But I'll get some work. We got a really good dentist here who's great.
Roy Bellamy
I'm just really happy we got two points tonight.
Rose
Honestly, I didn't feel greater have my stuff tonight and just to see it
David Demoshek
go in at the end and, you
Rose
know, I kind of feel like all's
David Demoshek
forgiven and, you know, I just need
Rose
to get some rest and, you know, I'll be.
David Demoshek
Be better on Thursday and we just
Rose
keep this thing going. I can hear you laughing with your mic off. Rose, this is not funny. This man's mouth, this man's head has been injured so badly this season.
Rosie
Yeah, but my timing with the sound effect was great.
Rose
It's not even funny. He's hurt. This is a painful situation. Oh, my gosh. Ethan, what's your fail?
Roy Bellamy
My fail was me last.
Rose
All right, so that's your fail. Good job. What's your fail, Rosie?
Rosie
My fail? This is not a fail for me. It's a fail just for Roy because he thinks it's a fail for me. It's very funny. And I am giving you culture, people. I gave you culture in my win culture, Mexican culture, and I'm giving you culture. So
Rose
they're weak. I look like we're getting beaten by a bunch of children. That's fantastic.
Rosie
So we went to Oki west and sadly we got bitten by a bunch of children.
David Demoshek
So were they actually children or were they.
Rose
Yeah, they were the 10 year old youth team.
David Demoshek
They were actually kids.
Rose
Yeah, they were lower. Teenage, like high tens or whatever.
David Demoshek
The bar mitzvah boys took you down.
Rose
All right, so I don't know if they were Jewish or not.
David Demoshek
Sorry, I just. Where I went with it, but the age sounds about right.
Rose
All right, quickly, let's talk about the Oscars. Rosie, what do you have?
Rosie
Well, I actually don't enjoy that very much. The Oscars, because it's very.
David Demoshek
Is it this week, the Oscars?
Rose
It's Sunday.
Rosie
It's Sunday. Which I'm not gonna be here.
David Demoshek
You're gonna add Nan soon to break everything down.
Rosie
Yeah, no, I know we're gonna break it, but the thing is, 16 Oscars for sinners.
Rose
Nominations.
Rosie
Nominations. Sorry. For sinners. I don't like it. Because you know what? More than Lord of the Rings, it broke my heart.
Rose
Oh, that. That's. Oh, good Lord.
Rosie
Yeah. And I don't think Michael B. Jordan should win Best Actor.
David Demoshek
I like Ryan Coogler, though.
Ethan
Oh, yeah.
Rose
He should win Best Director.
David Demoshek
Good director.
Rosie
As director.
Ethan
I think it'd be a shame if
Rose
Sinners won Best Picture. But he didn't win Coogler.
Ethan
He works here.
Rosie
Oh, yeah. Well,
Rose
nobody knows he's talking about Matthew Coogler.
Roy Bellamy
It's a great joke.
David Demoshek
The rails.
Rosie
Yeah. So that's that. That's my only thought. So people were gonna do a live show on Sunday. Well, they're gonna do it. I'm not gonna be here, so watch it.
Rose
All right. For those of you watching on DraftKings Network, check out our YouTube channel because we have Dave Demoshek from Football America to share hockey stories. That's David Demoshek coming up next. What are you reaching for?

Ethan
I pull out the Miller Lite. Miller Lite made that casual hang a
Roy Bellamy
memorable good Miller time with my good friend Mochetta, because Miller Lite brought us together. We took that first sip after we toasted our beers, and we knew we

made the right call.

Rose
Listen, I'm old, okay? I'm turning 42 this year. David's old. He's turning 43 this year. And this is why our very young producers in the other room are.
Roy Bellamy
I turned 27 this year. I'm old.
Rosie
I'm 30. I'm old.
Rose
No, you're not. No, no, you're not. You guys don't relate to us because you're too damn young. All right? So we brought in a ringer. We brought in a man who's older than all of us. We brought in Dave Damoshek, who is. I'm not. I'm not gonna reveal his age.
David Demoshek
Is he still here?
Ethan
This is some setup. I didn't come on here to be attacked.
Rose
I apologize.
Ethan
What are you, Tom Wilson?
Rose
Listen, I. I mentioned all of this because you have a lot more experience than us. That means you have a lot more hockey experiences, experiences that you've gone through in your life. So that means you have stories, and you are on here today, hopefully more often to regale us with your hockey story. So, Dave, tell us the story.
Ethan
Well, I go far enough Back that I remember what real dynasties in the NHL really more than any other sport, I guess, in the span of my lifetime, even more than the Chicago Bulls re the NBA or the Patriots or Chiefs did pro football. It used to always be. When I was growing up, I vaguely recall the Montreal Canadiens completing their fourth straight Stanley cup run. And then that gave way immediately to four straight Stanley cup runs for the New York Islanders. And then the Oilers won four out of the next five. That was the. That's what I grew up steeped in. So this. I'm. I'm still trying to get used to the idea of what Roy said on the LeBatard show this week, which was. Which is the reality. Like if you win two in a row, you should be happy. Florida Panthers fans or any other fan base. Three in a row is just about impossible because of the elevated nature of the playoffs now and how many games you have to run through to. To complete the feat. It's. It's just about. It's borderline impossible to do these days. But that's not really a story. What, what story? Can I regale you with the time I drank from the Stanley Cup? How about that?
Rose
Yes, we can go with that. Because I didn't do it.
David Demoshek
Well, now that we have an understanding, we kind of know now we have some experience that we know how hard we're not even allowed to hold it on our own. Like, if you don't win the cup, you're not even supposed to hold it without somebody who's actually allowed to be holding it holding it. So let alone drinking out of it. That's tough.
Rose
Yeah.
David Demoshek
So who'd you pay?
Ethan
Well, you're allowed to now. Now you are.
David Demoshek
No, we need somebody who. They have to hold it for us. We can't just go, you know, grab it.
Rose
Yeah. Phil Pritchard would kill us if. If we did.
Ethan
Oh, shame the devil. I think you will see. I like that, though, because now it makes me think you're aspirational enough at least to think like it's within the realm of possibility that I will be on an NHL roster at some point. And maybe if things break the right way, my team will win the Stanley cup, my organization will bring it home, and then, and only then, will I drink from the Cup.
David Demoshek
Maybe not on roster, but in the front office somewhere. Like an intern, an assistant GM in 20. I don't know. Like, I. I'm 43. I feel like I got another 20, 30 years before I can finally retire. So who knows where this is going
Rose
to lead I mean, hell, in 2023, I was definitely afraid to touch the cup. I. I could not do it. And then the Panthers lost in the cup final. I still can't do it. And then they finally won, and now I'm hugging the thing.
David Demoshek
Yeah, well, that's okay.
Ethan
None of us are favorite.
Roy Bellamy
Sorry. Go dig.
Ethan
Well, I was just gonna say Roy's favorite player in today's game, the savior of the NHL, Sidney Crosby. I thought he ruined that. I thought he spoiled all that foolishness when he handled the. The. The Prince of Wales trophy on more than one occasion. Everyone. Oh, can't touch it. It's gonna be a pox. I mean, how about my. My. My greater skill than yours is gonna win the day and allow me to hoist the cup in a fortnight from now? And that's exactly what he did, Roy.
Roy Bellamy
Well, the Panthers. The Panthers famous of Wales Trophy in 2023 and then lost the cup final. So the next year they were all like, we're not touching it. We're not touching it.
Rose
And then it went back.
Roy Bellamy
So they did it again the next year and then they won again. So I don't think the Panthers will ever be touching the Prince of Wales trophy because they also touched the Prince of Wales trophy in 96, did they not?
David Demoshek
Yes, they group hugged it in 96.
Roy Bellamy
Also, none of us are going to play in the NHL, so I think we're good to touch the cup.
Ethan
Let's establish this right now.
Roy Bellamy
We can touch the cup when our favorite team wins.
Ethan
Are you goons all in lockstep? Well, now I hear Ethan bringing some sense to the conversation. Would you guys really not drink from the Stanley cup or presented to you?
David Demoshek
Oh, hell yeah.
Ethan
Favorite grog thrown in there?
David Demoshek
I wouldn't.
Rose
I would now. Yes, obviously. I mean, I'm dry, but it's hard
David Demoshek
to get your hands on it, hard to get in the room with it, hard to be able to physically embrace it. So having the opportunity to be in that situation where somebody's got a beverage, probably preferably an adult beverage, put it in the cup and drink out like that. That's a lot of balls falling into place at the exact right way. Dave. I'm not saying we wouldn't. I'm just saying it's impressive that I
Ethan
don't want any balls. Anybody throwing their balls or any. Any kind of ball. We use pucks that has no, you know. Yes, thank you.
Roy Bellamy
I have some buddies that drank from the cup during. At the Elbow Room.
Rose
Congratulations. But wait a minute. Poured the beer from the cup on top of that.
Roy Bellamy
No, no, no, no, no. Like Josh Appelle was up there with.
Rose
Seriously, how am I. How was I not able to go up in the elbow room because you,
Roy Bellamy
you didn't try hard enough.
Rose
Unbelievable.
David Demoshek
That follow.
Ethan
I was in. I'm going to tell my story now.
Rose
Okay.
Ethan
I was once in the summer of 1991. That's how old I am. I was sitting in a bar with my pals. It was Brett, Richie and Josh, I think is. Are the three guys I was with. Very important to include those details. We were sitting. It was a. It was a two story bar docks. It no longer exists. And in the shady side area of Pittsburgh. And we were sitting there and it was round closing time. And the bartender upstairs said, you guys should wrap up, wrap it up with the picture. We're closing down. We were dragging our feet and sipping our beers a little too slowly. And then five minutes later he said, well, if this gets you to. If this motivates you a little bit, the Stanley cup just showed up downstairs. It was with a person. It was. Didn't just show up on its own.
Rose
Had legs.
Ethan
And that per. That person was Paul Staggerwald, who at the time was doing the. The TV color analysis for the Pittsburgh Penguins. And so we, we hurried ourselves along. We ran downstairs immediately, and there it was sitting on the corner of a bar. And I swear there were not more than four other people in, in the joint. There was the bartender and there were. So it was the Stanley cup alone. And, and you know, a mouthy, as you guys may have noticed. So I said to Paul Staggerwald at some point, like, hey, man, would you mind if we gave it a feel, if we hoisted it, you know. And he said, hey, that's what it's all about. And then he referred to the guy next to him in a blazer who was there to guard the Stanley Cup. And he said, as long as it's all right with him, it's good with me. And the next thing you knew, we were like without skates on. Otherwise though, just like the fellas down on the ice a few nights before. We were handing the Stanley cup to each other and then to the two or three strangers around us and giving a feel for kind of heavy. Not, not, you know, you think like, ah, because you see him like they're little heavy, but not overwhelming even for weak. Weak arm Dave. I was able to do that. And then I worked up the nerve to say that to Staggy. Mind if we put a little Iron City beer in there? And see what it tastes like. And once again, it's okay with him, and so it's okay with me. And then we. Next thing, we're drinking in a line like going around Cannonball and Iron City. Beer from the Stanley cup, taking our turns. And then we. This is before cell phones and easy photographs and everything. So we had a semi sincere debate about, first of all, Brett lived closest to home. So he's like, should Brett run and try to get a camera in time, but it'll probably be gone before he gets back, so he didn't want to leave. And then we thought maybe, I mean, there are four of us. What if we make a run for it? What if we just make a run for the Stanley Cup? Not, not though, like, to steal it and to do some grand heist and like, hold it hostage for millions of dollars or anything.
Rose
Platinum move.
Ethan
Just to spend the night with.
David Demoshek
With it.
Ethan
Just spend a night with it.
David Demoshek
Well, we'll.
Ethan
We'll give it back or we'll leave it out somewhere where it's easy for you to find, but just one night so we can have our pictures taken with it for all of time. We, we ultimately decided not to go that route, but it was, it was sweet enough. The reality of it was good enough for us.
David Demoshek
Is that the worst idea that you're glad that you've never pulled the trigger on in your life? Because you may not be here talking to us if you had done that.
Ethan
Yeah, I think you're right. I mean, I've always thought, like, I'm just, just athletic enough that I wouldn't be able to, like, if there were a, a military draft, like, I wouldn't get, I wouldn't get out. It wouldn't be like, oh, no, flat feet or whatever. It's like, ah, he's too infirm to, to, to, to, you know, to go out there and fight the enemy. I would be just good enough to pass muster on that. But I'd be the first one they get. I'd be like, I'd be the first one. Like, at the end of the war, they'd be like, remember that guy on day one that, that loudmouth guy who they took out? Like, he was the first, like, in the first three minutes of the war, they were like, run, here come the guys. Like, I'd be the first one down. They'd be like, yeah, that loudmouth. I remember him vaguely from the start of the war. That's who I would be. And that's what would have happened to me with the Stanley Cup. My friends would have all escaped, but I would have been the one who they caught and I would have done time.
David Demoshek
But you would have been the one that would have just hung on to the 40 pound trophy instead of running away like a smart person. And you'd be trying to schlep this thing down the street under your arm. Not easy to get away with. Yeah, exactly.
Ethan
Just long enough to etch my name in. Now what are you gonna do? Now what are you gonna do?
Rose
Your Pittsburgh Penguins are currently second in the Metropolitan Division via tiebreak. They have the same amount of points as the New York Islanders, but they have lost two in a row. And things are looking a little bit down right now for them. Nobody's gonna catch the Carolina Hurricane, so they're really going to have to hope that they can either get the two spots in the Metro or wild card spot. So I'm looking at the standings and there is a glaring, and I mean a glaring stat that I'm seeing here. Not a single team has double digit shootout losses. Except for the Pittsburgh Penguins. What is going on with them?
Ethan
Roy, we were talking about this previously and it really is weird and ironic for anybody who's paid attention to the Pittsburgh Penguins for, you know, for three minutes, let alone for the last 20 years. It's bizarre looking at the entirety of what that team has done and how they've done it, that they are the worst shootout team you've ever seen in your life. It used to be a decade ago that, oh, we, we, we, we got, we survived three on three or shootout. Well, give us the two points now. I mean, look at, look at our weapons. We're obviously going to win pretty much every shootout. Now it's the opposite. They are an atrocity and half the time Artur Shilobs is between the pipes and he is like, like he's never been on skates before. When the shootout starts, it's really weird to watch how bad he is as a goaltender, specifically in the shootouts. If they were merely, if they were merely league average, they, they would be a lock for the playoffs right now. We would not be talking about can they survive? And what's the math on all this? The math instead would be be that it would be like, who's going to win that division? Is it the Canes or the Penguins? But as it is, the reality is they, they suck.
Rose
Yeah, I mean, shootout, those 10 losses represents 2/3 of the overtime losses this year.
Ethan
Think about that, Think about that. I mean, like, do the, I mean it's pretty simple Math. I don't know it off the top of my head, but I mean, just apply 5 extra points to him, which is about what it would be. And we're having a very different conversation about. About who these Penguins are and whether or not they can make a deep run or otherwise. Now it's in question of whether or not they'll even get to the postseason. I mean, I'll give them the obvious grace that they don't have their best player in Crosby. And then Malkin, you know, coming suspended, rightly. And you could see he's vexed. You know, he's an emotional guy and always has been. And, you know, he's vexed that he hasn't been extended by the Penguins. And he lashed out for a couple games in a row after he met with GM Kyle Dubas to try and negotiate some sort of an extension. And instead they shelved that until after the season. So now it's real murky for what a guy, 39, what his future is going to be with the organization or in the NHL at all. And as an emotional guy, he kind of lashed out and he swung a stick at. At Darlene's head, and now he got shelved for five games. So they're behind the eight ball in terms of not having, you know, the two of the two of their better players. That mall can still count as being that. Yeah. What I've been assured by experts, and I turn to you guys as. As more experts. I. People are trying to talk themselves into this. I feel like, like more than this being the case is like, oh, the Pens will make it because the Columbus Blue Jackets, these aren't just random fans. These are experts say the Blue Jackets are due a cold spell here. They're going to fall off a little bit. They've been way too hot of late. Do you buy that?
Roy Bellamy
I. This is exactly what the Blue Jackets did last year. They got really hot at the end of the year. And the Senators are doing the same thing as well. Like, the Sens got really hot at the end of the year last year, too. They got into the playoffs. The Blue Jackets just missed out on, like, the last day of the season. This might just be their thing. That's a good team. Zach.
David Demoshek
We.
Roy Bellamy
Rensky, we all know from Team USA now, great player. Like, I like that Blue Jacket squad, but I don't. I just don't know that they have enough. Like, there's some firepower missing with that blue jacket squad.
Rose
23 regulation wins, by the way, for Columbus. That's not going to get done.
Ethan
No, no, that's bad. But Roy, as you point out, you know, if it comes down to it, with the tiebreakers, regular season wins. The Pens are behind the eight ball there.
Rose
Yeah, actually, they have 27. They have 27. That is. That's a far cry from 23. Detroit has 25.
Ethan
That's okay, but. But look at every. I mean, the aisles.
Rose
The Wings, The Islanders have 23 regular regulation wins, so that's four above them. The Wings, they have 25 regulation wins. That's. That's two above them. So tiebreaker is going to work in the Penguins favor as far as the other three spots in the playoffs.
David Demoshek
Just looking at the. The teams that are fight. They're fighting for in the division. The Islanders 23, the Blue Jackets 23, the Flyers 20. And then you get Washington at 28. But Washington's also six points behind Pittsburgh right now with two game. Pittsburgh's got two games in hand there. So Capitals, man, that. That's a spiral out of control, man, that's been rough.
Roy Bellamy
The east is funny because it's still so wide open. Like, you could see any of these teams getting in, but also like 2 out of 5 of like New Jersey, New York, Pittsburgh, Columbus, and maybe even Philly. Like, Philly's kind of coming on the last week or so. Like, all of these teams could kind of get in. And any of these teams. Are you really, like, wow, that's like a playoff quality roster. Ottawa, I would say.
Ethan
That's a great question, Ethan. I think that's a great question. If we assume. Which is assuming too much. But I'm going to do it. Like the Flyers and Caps are and Panthers, forgive me, are they. They could conceivably play themselves in, but there's enough to look at without even involving them about who is going to sneak in there. It's fascinating to me that the two conferences. And by the way, as an old man, I refuse to call the Campbell.
Rose
Campbell Conference.
Ethan
Why did we do that? If we can do anything as a group, let's get in Bettman's ear. By the way, I have gotten in Bettman's ear about this 15 or 20 years.
Roy Bellamy
Of course you have.
Ethan
I don't understand how. Why is it more appealing? What? Do you think there were any casual sports fans or casual hockey fans who bought into the NHL who otherwise wouldn't have? Because. Because I can't understand what is a Patrick Division. Oh, that's. Count me out. Oh, now it's the Atlantic. Okay, now. Now it's the Metro okay, now I get it. It's such a foolish math. It was a distinction from every other sport. It was such a cool thing that the divisions and the conferences were named after luminaries. The only failing is with. You know, we found out on the Le Batard show this week. Week. That ten day Tony has never heard of Dances with Wolves. Not.
Rose
Not.
Ethan
Never seen it. Has never heard of the movie.
Rose
So maybe he wasn't born in.
Ethan
I don't either.
Rose
He was born.
Ethan
What do I care?
David Demoshek
So what references for his whole professional career.
Ethan
Like I wasn't alive when. I wasn't alive when. When Lady Bing was around either. But I. I've heard of the Lady Bing.
David Demoshek
I wasn't alive when they made Gone with the Way, but you bet your ass I've heard of it.
Rose
That's true.
Ethan
I was a person to the Lady. Well, right.
Rose
Lady as the actual. Actual person. You've heard of the actual person, Ms. Lady Bing? I don't know.
Ethan
I know it's a funny. I think it's a funny message delivered by the hockey gods. That. Or who the framers of the NHL that they were like, oh, gentlemanly doesn't fight, lady.
Rose
Yeah.
Ethan
I think. I think they're trying to insinuate something about. About who you are. If you're in the NHL, but you're not getting any penalties, you're not dropping the gloves ever. Oh, there. Here you go. Here's a trophy for you, lady.
Roy Bellamy
The trophy.
Ethan
I think that's what they're saying.
Roy Bellamy
The trophy was donated to the National Hockey League by Lady Bing of Vimy, then vice regal consort of Canada. If have you got the hockey trophies are ridiculous. They're all too giant to transport around. Like the NFL MVP is like a tiny little award. The. The MLB MVP is like a plaque. Like these trophies are all silver.
Ethan
You're upside down, Badowski.
Roy Bellamy
It's the up.
Ethan
You have it exactly the wrong way. Yes. You want a cool, distinctive looking trophy. The stand. The only two trophies that anybody that. That. That universally, maybe with the exception of 10 Day Tony, that everybody recognizes are the Stanley cup and the Heisman Trophy. Why?
Rose
Why?
Ethan
Because they're cool looking and they have cool names and they're named after people from. From history. The NFL MVP trophy, by comparison, it's the most popular sport in society. Nobody can tell you six years ago, you don't know what it looks like.
Rose
It's such a football on top of like a shot.
Roy Bellamy
Is it even still?
Ethan
Yeah.
Roy Bellamy
I thought it's the shield now.
Ethan
No, the Lombardi, you know?
Roy Bellamy
Yeah.
Rose
It's the conference trophies that look like the shield. I believe now which is relatively new.
Roy Bellamy
No, this is the MVP trophy. Now hold that up there. That's the. You can't even see.
Ethan
It's nothing. That weird silver circle thing. Yeah, there.
Rose
That.
Ethan
There are a lot of cool. The Art Ross isn't the most attractive. But the point is we should go back. Let's meet in the middle here.
Rose
Okay.
Ethan
Okay. I don't know who Patrick is and I don't know who Norris was or Adams. I don't know who all those. Who all those Lester long gone people. Okay.
Rose
I.
Ethan
That. What we should do is let's start fresh with the new legends of the game. I think.
David Demoshek
Oh God.
Ethan
That there should be.
David Demoshek
I know where this is.
Ethan
I mean. Oh God. What?
David Demoshek
I know.
Rose
No, you are not going to name a division after Cindy Crosby right now while he's still.
Ethan
No, I'm not. No, that would be silly. It would be the Lemieute. It'd be the Lemieux Division. That would be a good division. It should be the. You know what it should be? It should be the best player from that division. So it'd be like the. Or division. Yeah, the Lemieux Division. The. So the Hawks. I'm trying to think of who would be the. The. The. The person from.
Rose
Then it would not be Bobby Hole.
David Demoshek
The Makita Division.
Rose
The Makita Division.
David Demoshek
The Glen Hall Division.
Rose
The Duck. Grand Division.
Ethan
Well, let me. There's got to be a good one.
David Demoshek
If we're doing Lemieux, we can do Chelios.
Ethan
No, why would. Why would one. Why would that. What's.
David Demoshek
They were the same.
Ethan
You think they there same air. I thought you were gonna say same caliber.
David Demoshek
No, of course nobody's at that caliber as Lemieux is like five guys that are up there. I'm just saying in terms of like, you know, big to his team. You were talking about naming Blackhawks. I'm trying to name a good Blackhawk.
Rose
I'm getting Denny Savard.
David Demoshek
Guys are killing.
Ethan
And then I guess like the. The Western Conference. Who's the best player like King. So we. I guess we would call that like the Bernie Nichols division.
Rose
Yeah, the Luke Robitail Division.
David Demoshek
Bill Ranford, good.
Ethan
But that. Right.
Rose
I mean who.
Ethan
Who wouldn't be down for that? I guess the rivals wouldn't like it. I guess Flyers fans wouldn't like playing in the Lemieux Division. But they'll deal with it. That's what they. That's what they get for not winning a Stanley Cup. Since 1975.
David Demoshek
One thing I got to ask Dave about before we go. We were talking about it before the show, but we're talking about Tony hadn't heard it. Gone with the Wind. Did I hear correctly that you've never heard of. Heard a song sung by Mariah Carey you've never heard during Christmas time? All I want.
Roy Bellamy
The only one he's got. That's the only one.
Ethan
I did know that.
Rose
I mean, he's walking plenty of cbs.
David Demoshek
Well, that's what I'm saying. Like, it's ridiculous to say you've never heard Mariah Carey sing. So. Okay, we're good.
Ethan
Well, there are a lot of ridiculous things. And my wife, who has ridiculous things, too. Well, that sounds bad out of context.
Rose
Don't let her listen.
Ethan
All her things are all right. That's what I mean. Kind of things I don't know about are like, I'm fascinated by the, the men, the, the celebrities that she finds attractive. Like, like, I know Brad Pitt is handsome, man, but she, she said the other day, like, that Rose, the Godfather was on. And she said, rose, weigh in on this. She says, what the. The first scene from the Godfather, you know, at the wedding and everything, and Kay and Michael are sitting at the table having their. Their talk about, that's my family. Okay, that's not me, that's Luca Brasi. She says, oh, she says that. Oh, oh, young Alpacino. There's no. Nobody better than that. I was like, what?
Rosie
What? Al.
Rose
He looks all right. He's all right.
Roy Bellamy
Is he not handsome in that?
David Demoshek
Dustin Hoffman?
Roy Bellamy
He's got like the nice hair, like, fair.
Rose
Not Dustin, though.
Rosie
Him? No.
Roy Bellamy
James Khan?
Rosie
No.
Ethan
Was the other Marlon Brand.
Rosie
Marlon Brando, I even think so.
Rose
That's Godfather.
David Demoshek
Godfather. Godfather too.
Rose
Godfather too.
Rosie
Yeah.
David Demoshek
But.
Rosie
But we're going to say someone handsomer than like when he was young. Him.
Rose
But no, it does look good. He.
Roy Bellamy
He.
Rose
He look good.
Roy Bellamy
He looks better as.
Rose
Look good.
Roy Bellamy
He looks better older. He kind of like, aged into being like a. In my opinion.
Rosie
Okay.
Rose
Around that time.
Rosie
What about Jacob Elordi?
Rose
If answer, I've never seen him.
Ethan
I think I get it, but I feel like he's already been. I feel like, because he's been like, he's been presented to me. I don't think I was ever given a choice in it. He's always been volunteered to me in the movie with. What's her name? The fox from Margot Robbie.
Rose
Wolf of.
Ethan
Yeah. Margot Robbie, by the way, herself, like a year or two ago. Remember when that was an online Thing when that was a social media thing. Like, she's mid, like, what world are you living in? But, but with that. But, yeah, yeah, I, I, that's what stands out to me. Rose, to answer your question, oh, my
Rose
God, that man has a strong, tall drink of water.
Roy Bellamy
Tall drink of water?
Rose
Yeah, that water is tall. That's a tall drink.
Roy Bellamy
Saying tall drink before you go, then
Rosie
who do you think is handsome? Him.
Ethan
Give me, give me Harrison Ford. Han Solo. Han Solo. I mean, who better than that Dr. Indiana Jones. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that, that's a man. Yeah, man. Looks like.
Rose
Yeah, that, yeah, that's, that's pretty good.
Rosie
Yeah, I cannot, yeah, I cannot debate that.
Rose
Patriot games. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's pretty good.
Ethan
You know, else is a looker.
Rose
Who's that?
Ethan
Mario Lemieux. Okay. He's a nice looking man.
Rose
All right.
Ethan
That's a nice looking man.
Rose
Okay, that's about enough for you, Dave. We shake. You can find him on Football America. He's the host of that show that is expert produced by the Fuentes brothers, both Mike and Gino, who happens to be back in the video studio. How you doing, Gino? Thank you for producing that show and all show. And Dave, thank you for joining us, showing one of your hockey stories.
Ethan
Sure thing. Mariah Carey, I think that Christmas song is overrated. And for the wife who I was mentioning was a shame when I was like, these guys are giving me the business, like, why would I know Mariah cares? She's like, what are you talking about? And I said, I don't know, Mariah. You know, I don't like that. I think that Christmas song's a little overrated. And she said, but yeah, you've been. What are you talking, you know, Mariah care. I'm like, I, I really don't. They were playing some songs for me and then she didn't believe it and she played three or four and I was like, I've never heard this song in my life. And then she played one with odb and I was like, okay, that one I recognize.
David Demoshek
Recognize me and Mariah.
Ethan
Mission accomplished.
Rose
Go back like babies to pacify.
David Demoshek
That's like in 10 years saying I've never heard of Beyonce, though. Like, Mariah was huge for like over a decade also.
Rosie
You don't know.
Roy Bellamy
I know exactly what song you're talking about.
Rose
Just off of that. Yeah, that's the Emotion song. That's Emotions. Yeah.
Rosie
Emotions.
Rose
Yes. Dave, thank you for not knowing who Mariah Carey is.
Ethan
Hey, no trouble. Thank you for the little, the little break I'm going to return now to. To sweating it out to see if the Pittsburgh Penguins can get into the playoffs. That this is going to be a nail biter from. Now the other thing I was going to say, and I'll leave you guys to talk about this is the two divi. The two conferences are so interesting that they are all. Every team on one side of the bracket, almost a couple teams stand out, but otherwise it's just everybody's the exact same level. And then on the other side, it's like two heavyweight teams and a bunch of direct. It's fascinating the. The differences between the two and I can't wait to watch these playoffs and see how it all shakes out. With that said, good night.
Rose
We have to
Roy Bellamy
play them out.
Rose
Sun's still out. Thanks. I said thanks, Dave.
Roy Bellamy
I love you, Dave.
Rose
Thanks again to Dave Damashek for joining us. Ethan, sound. Let's get to that rope quick, please.
Ethan
21st of the year. 4 power play goals in this game for the Sabers. First time in eight years. 87 with under a minute to go, Bob. Wow. Hockey group chat that I'm a part of on my phone and I looked
Rose
down and there was a text message
Roy Bellamy
from one of the guys that said,
Ethan
is Sabers Lightning the greatest game in NHL history? And I said something very interesting must be happening there. And sure enough, there's Ara Johnny on the spot to keep. Keep us updated.
Rose
One of those guys on the phone.
Roy Bellamy
Do you know who one of those guys was?
Rose
You.
David Demoshek
Now we're getting to why we're playing the sound. Hey, guys.
Roy Bellamy
Oh, it's the hockey chat. Shout out. Dude, come on, man. One of the week.
Rose
Yeah, that. I'm not a part of the thing.
Rosie
We are nothing.
Rose
Yes. Yes, apparently we are nothing. Shout out to the. The men to the. I'm sorry, was it the United Statesman? Yes.
Roy Bellamy
United States Men's Paralympic hockey team. The sled hockey team won 61 today over, I believe Czech to advance to the gold medal game. So shout out to them. Shout out to all the Paralympians out there. They deserve our support just as much as the Olympians.
Rose
Yes, please, please do not allow Cash Patel into your locker room. Thanks to Geno and Jason in the back. Thanks to Ethan and Rosie in that studio.
Rosie
You're very welcome.
Roy Bellamy
What a show this was, boys. What a show.
Ethan
You're welcome, Dave.
Roy Bellamy
Rambling charge.
Rose
That's David Drug. I'm right. Bellamy. I'm out of here. Goodbye.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz - "The Hockey Show: Story Time With Dave Dameshek" March 13, 2026
Broadcasting from the Elser Hotel in Downtown Miami, this episode brings together hosts Roy Bellamy (“Rose”), Rosie, Ethan, and special guest Dave Dameshek. While it’s “The Hockey Show,” the wide-ranging conversation injects signature humor and sidebars on sports, pop-culture, and personal stories, with a deep dive into the NHL trade deadline, player suspensions, Panther’s season, and memorable hockey moments. This week features “story time” with Dameshek, who regales the crew with his own Stanley Cup tale, and the group debates legendary trophies, playoff races, and hockey culture—sprinkled with friendly ribbing and passionate fan chatter.
“The bartender said, ‘the Stanley Cup just showed up downstairs.’ …There it was sitting on the corner of the bar… and the next thing you know, we were without skates on… We were handing the Stanley Cup to each other… And then I worked up the nerve… ‘Mind if we put a little Iron City beer in there and see what it tastes like?’ … Next thing, we’re drinking in a line…” ([38:01])
“Just one night so we can have our pictures with it for all of time…” ([40:12])
“It’s bizarre… they are the worst shootout team you’ve ever seen… Now it’s the opposite. They are an atrocity…” – Dameshek ([42:23], [43:38])
“It was such a cool thing that the divisions and conferences were named after luminaries…”
“That’s like in ten years saying I’ve never heard of Beyoncé, though…” – Dave ([57:28])
Friendly, irreverent, and fast-paced, the show mixes serious hockey talk with comedic asides, pop-culture riffs, and inside jokes. Guests and hosts alternate between analysis and storytelling, making even the stats and playoff math feel lively and personal.
