You know, go back to August and if I said, hey, by the way, these are the final four teams in the college football playoffs. How about this one? Carolina is going to win their division with a losing record. The Chiefs will be out. The Lions will be out. The Bengals will be out. The Ravens will be out. That's why it's so crazy when you start to predict, try to predict. You think you got a trend, a pattern. You think you figured a team out and you have it even now. You got Seattle figured out. I'm trying to. I said that defense is unbelievable. They run the football. But what's it come down to? Sam Darnold is going to have to prove to all of us In a big game, he can play big. Now you can say that game against San Francisco, he played big. He didn't. His defense did and his running game did. Okay, I give you credit. You didn't have any mistakes. You're going to have to win a game. We did this with Lamar Jackson. We do this with Josh Allen. There are certain quarterbacks where we go. Okay, prove it. Let me see what you can do. Big game. Seattle, you, you got home field advantage. One of the great home field advantages in all the sports. Use it. You should go to the Super Bowl. But if you look at that NFC west, man, I can't remember a division being that dominant against everybody else in the league. And point differential, San Francisco and Seattle, unbelievable this year. But all it takes one of those games. And it seems like every playoffs we go, how did that happen? Like, even look at the Rams are In Carolina, they're 10 point favorites. You know, the Tex there, there's probably four teams, four road teams that could win in the opening rounds of the playoffs here. Crazy. And then you got the college football. If I would have said, hey, Indiana is going to be the team to beat, Miami is going to be in there. Alabama's going to get embarrassed. Georgia's out, Ohio State's out. That's what's great about this. Now, did the college football committee get this right? Because I know we love to pile on. Oh, why do you have those other schools in there? Tulane. And remember, we were worried because Tulane got blown out, James Madison got blown out. Are we concerned about Alabama's future, Texas Tech's future? They got blown out. Wait a minute. I thought just jmu and Tulane got blown out and now you got a Final Four. That Ole Miss has a coach who's an interim coach or he's taken over for a coach who goes and then wants to take coaches and then loans them back and what a mess. But it's great, it's crazy and it's fun and I think it's wide open. If you look at these Final four teams, Indiana, Indiana, Alabama, Alabama, they sec'd Alabama. They have no mistake about that. They dominated them. And even Kirk, Herb street in the game is saying, basically, Alabama. Hello? Where are you? Paul Feinbaum, pick up a white courtesy phone. What happened? But Ole Miss is playing well without Lane Kiffin. And I don't want Lane Kiffin in the booth. I don't want him showing up, taking a victory lap for Ole Miss. Let them have their moment. And I'm glad that he wasn't there. Let Let those kids and that coach have their moment. Not you coming back saying, hey, you see what I did here? Look at what I built here while I go to lsu. Transfer portal is a mess, but everybody, it feels like, is putting their name in the transfer portal. There's over 4, 000 players in the transfer portal at last count. I mean it's, it's crazy. I do have a little bit of information college football from my college football source just sent this to me prior to the start of the show and I'm curious about where we're going to be next year for the playoffs. My source says Momentum remains towards 16 team playoff as soon as next season. The final decision for next season is due two weeks from this Friday. They will make a or have a final vote on if they're going to have 16 teams in the college football playoffs. My source says focus also remains on the automatic qualifiers allocation. With the Big ten in the sec, they want to have more teams in there and the Big 12 in the ACC. Logistics and scheduling matters are also being worked on. So this is fluid right now with college football with the playoffs going on. Where we're going to be next season in all indications are the momentum and even what I was told a couple of weeks ago there would be a 16 team playoff. But I did wonder about this. Did the College Football Playoff committee get it right now? Do I think Notre Dame was better than Alabama? Yes. Do I think they were better than Miami? Yes. But Miami, Miami was awesome. That defense was unbelievable. That that was not a fluke. When you watch that game, I don't know how good Carson Beck is. Didn't have to be great in that game. He's going to have to be, you know, have one of those moments probably. But that defense, they put some pressure on Ohio State and that was impressive. Dominating. And now you start to handicap this of who you got. Well, I'm rooting for Ole Miss for the story. Indiana's an unbelievable. Indiana is one of the great. This is one of the great stories in college football history. Now, I don't want to go too big and dramatize this and say it's a miracle on ice, because it's not. But it is incredible. If you grew up in the Midwest and knew that Indiana was always the team that had zero, it would be Michigan 54, Indiana 0, Ohio State 44, Indiana 0. Over a century, they, they accomplished nothing. And then in the last two years, you get a coach that any other school could have had, they get a transfer, you know, who becomes The Heisman Trophy winner. You're winning game. You go out and beat Oregon. Like, they're winning games. They're physical. And that's what was impressive. I thought, okay, Alabama, they get a stop, they get a couple of sacks. I'm like, all right, now we're gonna see if Indiana can be as physical. All of a sudden it's like, that's one of those where your brother is bigger than you and he's on top of you and he's beating you up and you go, uncle, Mom. Alabama was calling for mom because Indiana was not letting up. And Mendoza, it was like, I don't know, I'll throw 15 passes, run the football, play good defense. But that was fun. But that's where we try to get into the hot taker prediction game. And man, does it come back, invite you, but it's been fun. All right, so I have a poll question coming up. Seaton will do the honors there. By the way, round of applause for the New York Jets. Yeah, they went the entire season without having an interception.
B
Not selfish.
A
515 pass attempts. The jets are the first team in NFL history to go an entire season without an interception. Once again, round of applause of the day. Start of the day. Start of the day. This is the start stat of the day. Stat of the day brought to you by Panini America. The official trading cards of the program. Oh, we got breaking news. I told Paulie his job on Black Monday is to let us know when somebody's been fired.
B
I'm enjoying it way too much.
A
Okay.
B
All right, we're gonna play. Guess that. Firing Dan. Reported by Adam Schefter of the mothership. Blank is out as the Blank head coach. Raheem Morris, already fired before our show started in Atlanta. Blank is out as the Blank head coach. I'll give you a hint. He's will be in high demand for the next job.
A
Kevin Stefanski.
B
Kevin Stefanski is out as the Browns head coach two time coach of the year.
A
See, this goes back to front office. The front office, the ownership, Deshaun Watson, they should take all of the blame. Kevin Stefanski, you know, was a really good coach. He'll be in demand, but then you saddle him with two rookie quarterbacks who aren't starting quarterbacks and. Spare me the Shador. Sanders let him down to field goal range. He's not threatening there. He's more threatening than Dylan Gabriel. You know, Watson set this franchise back five years. That's on the front office there. They're the ones that made these decisions. Kevin Stefanski didn't draft these quarterbacks either. Now, not surprised. Not surprised. But he'll. He'll be picked up probably as an offensive coordinator, so not surprised at all. I did think this when I saw what the Falcons did. I'm not surprised that they fired Raheem Morris. But I have to go back two years ago and remember when Arthur Blank was told by people in his front office, you don't want to hire Bill Belichick, they made the decision to hire Raheem Morris. So Arthur Blank fires coach and GM Terry Fontenot and basically saying, all right, I listen to you guys now, I don't know if Belichick, you know, would have been that much of an upgrade. I don't know that. But the Michael Penix draft pick, which I said at the time, I didn't understand it. I didn't think he was one of those where you go, oh, my God, somebody let him fall this far. Good college quarterback at two different places, but injuries there. Got hurt again this year. But you have these. All these players that, you know, you keep waiting for. They're. They're the most frustrating team in the NFL for me, because I'm told Bijon Robinson is the next Christian McCaffrey. Okay. And he might be. Or Drake London or Kyle Pitts. All right, they got the nucleus there, and maybe they do, but it just feels like they kind of go 93 yards and kick a field goal, and that doesn't mean they even make the field goal. But Bijan is a wonderful player. He's fun to watch. He should be dominating. He should be Jameer Gibbs, like. But I'm not surprised. But I did think back those two years ago when they. It was like. And. And, you know, Robert Kraft may have played a role in that by calling Arthur Blank, saying, you don't want this guy now. I wouldn't want Belichick, certainly, with everything going on, and that's two years ago, certainly don't want him now. But it feels like ownership. Listen to the front. Of course the front office is going to try to hold on to their jobs, and then all of a sudden, you bring in, you know, your coach and it cost you, and now you're in. You're in the market for another coach. And there'll be other coaches that will be fired probably today. There'll probably be some surprises that those who do keep their jobs as well. John Harbaugh lost his game last night, had a chance to make the playoffs. They lost in dramatic fashion, and this is how it sounded. Tyler Luke from 44 yards. Season on the line. Loop's kick is on the way. It is. It is no good. He pushed it wide to the right. Time has expired. And not since Billy Cundiff went wide left in the AFC Championship game has a Ravens season ended with such a gut wrenching thud as a missed field goal. And the season is over for the Ravens. As you might be able to tell, that was the Ravens radio network with the call, but what was interesting was Lamar Jackson asked about John Harbaugh's future as his head coach. I'll have that for you coming up. Your phone calls as well. Seaton will come up with a poll question. We got a busy day on this Monday. We're glad to be back. Miller Brewing Co. Milwaukee, Wisconsin 96 calories, 3.2 carbs for 12 ounces. Kevin Stefanski is out in Cleveland. So he ends up beating what the Steelers, the Ravens and the Bengals and then loses his job. So very Browns ish of them. To get rid of Kevin Stefanski. If you include last night's Pittsburgh Baltimore game, 73 games were decided by three points or less. That is tied for the most in NFL history. Is that a good thing? Do we have a lot of 9 and 8? 8 and 9, 10 and 7? Kind of. Now in the NFC west, you have some great teams, but it feels like this is what the NFL likes. They like that games are not going to get out of hand. You don't have a dominating team. It's hard to keep a dynasty going and therefore your team has a chance. Like Carolina. Wonderful job. Really wonderful. I don't know how good they are. I don't know if Bryce Young is a franchise quarterback. They have to decide if they're going now. Do I want to extend him? No. I'd let him play out this next year. I'd franchise him, but I'm not giving him $250 million. I like him when I've met him. Wonderful kid, but this is business. I want to know, can you win games for me now? You can be a game manager now. Can you do that? Yes. But I need to know if you can win a game because that's what the playoffs comes down to there. You can't win these playoff games unless your quarterback helps you win a game. It's not like Trent Dilfer. We don't have any more Trent Dilfers where you just go out there and you go, okay, just don't screw it up, okay? Let the defense take over. You don't have to do anything there. You got to make plays. And Bryce Young is a nice quarterback. They showed a whole lot of progress. Now granted, they made the playoffs with a losing record. And if you're in the nfc, that's what makes the Falcons situation even messier. All you got to do is have a winning record. You host the playoffs. Here are the lines. Rams are 9 1/2 point favorites at Carolina. Packers 1 1/2 point favorites at the Bears. The Bills are 1 1/2 point at the Jags. Niners getting 3 1/2 at the Eagles. Chargers 3 1/2 at the Patriots. And the Texans, they are three and a half point favorites in Pittsburgh. Wow. Wow. Speaking of the Steelers, after they put away the Baltimore Ravens last night, or did the Ravens put away the Baltimore Ravens last night? Here is the question to John Harbaugh on this season and then we'll hear from Lamar Jackson about John Harbaugh's future with the Ravens. Just how frustrating has this season been to have. You know, there's been a handful of games. You guys have kind in your grass one way or another and this one disappointing. I think our guys fought. We were that close to winning the north and we didn't get a chance to get it done. So all that other stuff is history. Had a chance to do it, we didn't do it. We're disappointed and we'll move on. Okay, then you had Lamar Jackson, the Ravens quarterback. The question about his head coach's future. Now listen to the words that he uses. Do you want to see John remain the coach for next year? You asked me about next year. Jameson. I'm so caught up in what just happened tonight. I can't focus on that right now. I just told you like he asked me. Are you still. I'm stunned right now. I'm still trying to process what's going on. Like I know we lost but you know, that's all okay now I'm going to be fair to Lamar Jackson because it's right after the game, a game that they thought they were going to win, they were in perfect position, game winning field goal. You go into the playoffs, then it doesn't take long, the cooling down period. Then you go meet with the media. He is asked, do you want John Harbaugh back? All he has to do is say of course I do. But I'm stunned by what happened here, man. I'm still trying to process. He didn't, he didn't answer if he wanted John Harbaugh back. Do you listen to the question again, do you want to see John? It's it, I mean it's there on a T. Even if you don't want him back, you have to say yes, I expect him back next year but man, it's going to take a while for me to get rid of this bad taste that we should be in the playoffs here. Like then it goes away. So now that just kind of lingers there. Even Lamar Jackson's future in Baltimore, it just kind of hangs there a little bit until something declarative comes out of the front office. There is John Harbaugh done in Baltimore. You know we, we focused on Mike Tomlin the last two months and I. There's still no guarantee. They're not even favored at home. If they lose that game to the Texans and they're three and a half point underdogs, what happens? What's Aaron Rodgers future Rogers played better than I think people thought he would, but I don't know if that could have been his last game. Last night I felt like it could have been his last game. It's like Travis Kelsey, Man, I watched that should be his last game. Here's Travis Kelsey talking about possible retirement last year. He wanted you to take some time away from the season before you came to a decision. Do you feel like you probably do that again where you want to get away from the emotions of this particular season before you come to a final decision on next year? I mean, who knows? Who knows? Either it hits me quick or. Or I gotta take some time. I think last year was a little bit easier. I think I. I knew right away I. I wanted to kind of give this one a.
E
A shot.
A
So. I don't know. We'll. We'll see. Okay. Whatever his answer is, he's going to hold it for his podcast with his brother.
B
Yeah.
A
I mean, he's a businessman. Yeah. Seaton.
E
He didn't walk off the field like a fellow who had just played his last game.
A
He played like a guy who was playing in his last game.
B
Yeah.
E
But he walked off like, yeah, see you next year.
A
He didn't.
E
He didn't look emotional. He didn't even really, like, stand and take it in for a second. Be like, is this it? Is this how it's all going out? He walked off, you know, deuces to the crowd.
A
Yeah.
E
Sign some real quick.
A
All right.
E
See you later. Walked off with his typical Travis Kelsey.
A
Swagger, but they wanted to make sure he got over 13, 13,000 receiving yards, and he. And he did so. He and Jason Whitten and Tony Gonzalez, the only tight ends with over 13,000 receiving yards. So it felt like that was really important for him to get that or them to get that for him. Would I be surprised if he comes back? I would be. And you also have to factor in Patrick Mahomes, what is going to be his time frame. And I know he hopes to be ready for the regular season. You know, he might not be ready until October, maybe November. And if you're Travis Kelsey, do you want to come back if. You know, Mahomes might not be there for you, Maybe you're not going to be a playoff team again, but it felt like that was maybe the final game that he was going to play Aaron Rodgers. I felt like this was going to be his last year no matter what. And if they lose this opening round game against the Texans, how's that going to. How's it going to play in Pittsburgh where it's already. It feels like a tenuous situation. I mean, they would love. It feels like collectively that city to move on from Mike Tomlin. And yes. You know, these Insiders. I do that in quotes. Telling me, though, he's got a great TV future. No kidding? No kidding. I mean, he'll have a great TV future the following year. If he coaches one more year. Tomlin will be hired immediately. In fact, I know one network who's already talked about that. Sources close to me tell me, yes, Paul.
B
Aaron Rodgers stats were pretty good this year. He's 66% passer, 3,000 yards, 23 touchdowns, seven picks. Those are probably better than expected.
A
Yeah. Yeah.
B
Could he play on another team for one year? More likely than the Steelers.
A
But what team would want him for one year?
B
Hypothetical. I'll throw this out there. Raiders have the number one pick. They do the smart thing and develop Fernando Mendoza and sign Aaron Rodgers to a one year deal. And now you're thinking long term. You take Rodgers for one year, see what happens. And Mendoza takes over. And everyone knows that's the plan.
A
Yeah.
B
Just a thought.
A
Yes, Marvin, but if you're the Raiders.
D
Do you want Aaron Rodgers against the Chiefs, the Broncos and the Chargers twice a year? So just so they can get beat up and still just win four games?
A
Yeah. I don't know if there's a scenario where I go, man, that team needs Aaron Rodgers. Now you're taking a team that is terrible and now you're going to be a bridge quarterback, not a team that's on the cusp of, you know, he wanted to go to the Vikings and the vikings decided on J.J. mcCarthy. Maybe the Vikings will have Aaron Rodgers next year. That's not nuts. All right, your phone calls coming up. Seaton, what's the poll question for the first hour?
B
That's not nuts. Could be a new segment.
E
That's Not Nuts.
A
I think is going to be the name of our new hot take.
B
That's Not Nuts.
E
Brought to you by Pistachio.
A
He's nuts. Yes.
E
That's not nuts. Hold on. Just jotting that down. We got one here from Paul. Actually, I'm going to give him credit for both of these, even though he sent one. The second was implied. Most surprising playoff miss. AFC version. Bengals, Chiefs, Colts, Ravens. Okay, then we're adding in and giving him credit for most surprising playoff miss. NFC edition.
B
I was gonna write it.
A
Oh, that's gotta be the Lions.
E
I figured that's where you were going. Cowboys, Lions. I put Buccaneers, Falcons, Commanders. Not really sure about Falcons Commanders. Is a little surprising.
A
Well, they had injuries. I didn't think they were gonna make the playoffs. Who doesn't this time of year? If Jane Daniels was healthy, I'D say the Chiefs, but I don't. Well, even if Mahomes is healthy, I still don't think they were making the playoffs. So I don't know how much of a surprise that is you want to do.
E
Most surprising playoff miss. We could say, like Chiefs, Ravens, Notre Dame.
A
Wow.
E
Lions.
A
Yeah. Well, the Colts, because they got off to that great start. Tampa Bay got off to a great start. You know, we had Baker Mayfield in the hall of Fame. Jonathan Taylor was winning the mvp. Yes, Paulie, the Colts needed to lose.
B
Their last seven to miss the playoffs. They had. I mean, they. They were still in it as of two weeks ago. I mean, the Colts are now in that category when another team misses the playoffs. Well, but then the Colts.
A
Yeah, it's Buddha and San Francisco Buddha. Best and worst of the weekend. And thank you for my Christmas gift.
C
Felizano Nuevo dp. Welcome back, boys. My sports show, Binky is back. And like they always say, Dan, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Miss you guys. Even you, Fritzi. Let's ride. Okay, I think I remember how to do this. Best and worst of the break, Dan. So many things have taken place. I mean, you know, me and me, my Niners and Paulie's Bears gave us the game of the year so far, in my opinion. I mean, that was like defense was optional. It was like a heavyweight slug fest. So that would be my best of the break and the worst of the break, Dan. My Niners, it's. It's sad and it feels a little bit like fool's gold. Like we just don't have the weapons or the depth, Dan.
B
Like we.
C
Like, especially with this whole super bowl being in San Francisco. We could have had home field advantage, but Seattle came into Santa.
A
Thank you, Buddha. You know, this feels like one of those years where you're ahead of schedule with the Niners. They had the injuries and they're not ahead of schedule, but they, they. They carved out. So I said Kyle Shanahan may have had his best coaching year. I mean, really, I didn't. I don't think they're a great team. And even McCaffrey, you know, that's your go to guy. Brock Purdy banged up his hand. Who knows? Maybe Mac Jones is going to be playing in the playoffs. But you lose your two best defensive players. Can Fred Warner come back? Marvin, did you see any headlines that there's a chance that. I guess depending on how far the.
D
Niners go, Yeah, I think best case scenario, NFC Championship game.
A
All right. Chris in Syracuse. Good morning, Chris. What's on your mind today?
F
Hey, thanks, Dan. I got a best and worse and a comment. My best congrats to Miles Garrett getting the single season sack record. And the most impressive part was he did it without any assistance from Brett Barbara. And I love this stat line. The Oregon Ducks 47 rushes for a total of 64 yards. Yeah, it wasn't pretty, but they won 23 zip. And my worst assistant coaches at Ole Miss. Pulling double duty coach in Ole Miss and also helping their future boss lsu, Lane Kiffin recruit players in the transfer portal. Yeah, the NCAA really just has to change the timing of the transfer power portal. And my comment, the Miami Dolphins hired broadcaster for ABC ESPN Troy Aikman to help in their GM search. You think that move would come under some scrutiny similar to Tom Brady's dual roles with Fox Sports and the Las Vegas Raiders?
A
Well, Brady is, you know, a minority owner. They're just bringing in Troy to help for the search. It's kind of like you're hiring a consultant. Do I like the look of it or as we love to say, the optics? No. And don't you have Dan Marino for this? That's what I thought. Like, if you're Marino, you're like, wait, I'm the Hall of Fame quarterback in here, but Troy is going to help you.
B
Yeah, Paulie, but people on social media were crushing the Cowboys. You've had Troy Aikman, who's probably wanted to do this for a while. I think you and he talked about it.
A
Yeah.
B
And the Cowboys have never asked.
A
Yeah. Years ago when I talked to him about it and you could tell that he was kind of like waiting. Like I. I'm waiting. It almost felt like he was like an open letter to Jerry Jones. Okay. Yeah, I'd like to get involved with a team. I don't even know if he said it with. With a team he gave a little. Jerry Jones. Yes. Yes, Todd. And why wouldn't they? Jerry just wouldn't want to share the spotlight with it. Probably not. The name is Troy Aikman. Is that what it is? Probably. He probably wouldn't want to share. I mean, that that led to the separation of him and Jimmy Johnson, who got credit. I mean, crazy. Yes.
B
Paulie, why would you want a three time super bowl champion and one of the best football minds helping out the team for basically free.
A
Yeah, that's true. All right, let's go around the room. Did Joe Burrow play a role other than being the quarterback being sacked for Miles Garrett's record? Todd.
D
I felt like he could have made.
A
A little bit better of an effort to get out of the way. I guess that's how I'll pose that. Okay. Seaton.
E
I think it was less about any type of record and more just about the game that they were in at this stage of the season. So I'm going to say no, he.
A
Did not play a role.
E
I think he would have done that whether it was for a sack record or not.
A
Okay, Marvin.
D
Yeah, I think he helped out Miles a little bit. Took a little nap.
A
All right, Paulie.
B
I'm watching it again. Miles is right on top of him. It felt like Joe could have squeaked out and maybe decided, I don't need to squeak out. I'd say he helped like 10%.
A
It felt like Miles Garrett was helping him to his seat in a restaurant.
B
Pat him on the back.
A
Just kind of like, you know, I mean, it wasn't Brett Favre, like, where Favre just basically fell down for Strahan. You know, the thing about Miles Garrett is he probably could have had 35 sacks this year. Now, I'll explain. He's always double teamed. Now that when he wasn't. So one of the biggest plays of the season for you, you don't double team Miles Garrett. That was. That's where I go, wait, what are we. What are we doing?
B
Yeah, Paul, maybe the offensive line coach helped. Miles Garrett, number 75, the left tackle. He seemed like he had money on Miles Garrett to get the record.

But if you think about it, how many games are the Browns ahead in where, you know it's a passing down. Imagine if he was on a team that was good. Now, granted, you know, he got his money and you stayed with Cleveland, so there's no sympathy there. Not that he's asking for it, but you're always. Chances are the team that you're facing is leading you and they're not going to be an obvious passing down. And you double team Miles Garrett. Yes. Yeah.
E
I feel like it was not at all about. Let me throw Myles Garrett a bone here and just give him the record. I think he more about Joe Burrows exhaustion and being like, I don't feel like doing this. I'm not good. What am I going to squeak out to try and pick up a couple of yards?
A
Forget it, dude.
E
I'm just going down.
A
It was just kind of a weird play. Yeah. That's all.
E
It was almost like so little of a sec that Miles Garrett shouldn't get credit for it.
A
I know.
E
Well, I had my hand on him, so I guess that means I Get.
A
Well part of me was hoping and you know those other defensive linemen were not going to get involved in that because they didn't want it to be a half sack. Yeah.
B
Paulie, the top three defensive players in the league for being double teamed or Micah Parsons, Miles Garrett and of course Max Crosby. Percentage of times double teamed. Now there's a thing called pass rush win rate. It's how many times you're being blocked and you beat the blocker. Micah Parsons was number one in the league. Nick Bonito from Denver, number two. Will Anderson 3. Miles Garrett 4.
A
But think about that. Max Crosby's team was all is always behind and still to be able to put up double digit sack totals pretty much every year that he started for them. Now they might be parting ways because he wanted to play and they deactivated him. Also Brock Bowers, I don't know if he was injured but that he was just. He might have been a healthy scratch. Like the Raiders were going to make sure they were getting the number one pick in the draft and you would think with Ashton Genti and Brock Bowers and maybe Mendoza. All right, that's a pretty good nucleus. Here's the problem I had with the Raiders. You know what, I'm going to take a break. I'll take a break. Play the day coming up and then I'll give you my problem with the Raiders this past season. We're back after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows@foxsportsradio.com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. Oh my God. The play of the day. This is the play of the day. Check this out. Four man rush coming. Rogers back lofting left has a man wide open. It's touchdown Pittsburgh Steelers with 55 seconds remaining. What?
B
What?
A
He was wide open. That's your play of the day. Play of the day brought to you by. Well, who do you think they're brought to you by? Tire rack. For over 40 years they've been helping you find the right tires for how and what and where you drive. Ship fast and free backed by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerack.com the way tire buying should be. All right, I was mentioning the Raiders. I liked Ashton Genty. I liked him a lot in college and I have no problem if you're going to draft somebody and make him sort of your Christian McCaffrey. Jameer Gibbs, you know this hybrid. Now I don't know if he can be a hybrid. But I did like him. He's great after contact. But the thing that I always have said, and I go back to Andrew Luck, I can have a great quarterback, but if I don't have a great offensive line, my great quarterback might be just a good quarterback. Look at what happened to Patrick Mahomes in the two Super Bowls where he got blown out. He didn't have a good offensive line. So one of the three greatest quarterbacks of all time looked average because he had an average offensive line. The Raiders were in the bottom five in offensive line. Now this is PFF rankings, bottom five. What did the Patriots do? When you get a quarterback, you got a franchise quarterback. You go out and you get Will Campbell. That's your left tackle. Penny Sewell with the Lions. That helps Jared Goff. Like, there are certain teams who have done it right now. The Colts did get it right eventually. And then Andrew Luck said, I don't want to play anymore. Where they had a really good offensive line, but you got to build from within with your line. Offensive and defensive line, it's everything. Now you're wasting a running back. You got to have a good offensive line and maybe if you can have a couple of great offensive linemen or even one great offensive lineman. The Eagles won the super bowl because they had a better offensive and defensive line. That's where it starts. It's same thing with college football. You can talk about everybody in the transfer portal. I've said all along, man, give me offensive and defensive linemen, because there aren't that many to go around. There are a lot of quarterbacks, there are a lot of running backs, a lot of wide receivers. Man, it's hard to get good offensive linemen. There's good defensive linemen, but you got to spend the money. And that's what the Patriots have done with Drake May. Now, if Mendoza is going to be your quarterback, you better bolster the offensive line or he's going to be David Carr. He's going to be back there where you go, guys got a lot of talent. He just doesn't have any time. So that's what the Raiders did. And look, do I like Pete Carroll? I do. Was he the right guy? No, because it feels like that that was a team that's rebuilding and Pete's got a lot of energy, but that's where you get somebody younger who's going to grow with them, who's who you're going to be committed to for five years. But you know, Pete's not going to Survive. And then, you know, maybe you bring in Brian Flores, who deserves another chance. Defensive coordinator. But, you know, the Raiders do have some pieces. But the Raiders could turn out to be sort of the Atlanta Falcons of the afc, where you go, man, they got a really good running back. They got some, you know, a good tight end, and you got a good quarterback or you spend a high pick on a quarter. I mean, that's what the Falcons do. But the Raiders bolster the offensive line. The, the old Raiders were built on that offensive line. They had an unbelievable offensive line back in the day. Look at dynasties, look at the offensive line, look at defensive line. It's not a fluke. I mean, it's not sexy to talk about it now. There's. There's no hot takes off of this. Let's talk will Campbell for 20 minutes. Yes, Marvin.
D
That was always my issue with the NFL draft, when people will be like, oh, and we're drafting a defensive tackle. It's like slow clap. No, no, no. That's how you win Super Bowls. Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, Jalen Carter. In the past, what, five or six years, defensive tackles have won Super Bowls.
A
Yeah, Paulie.
B
And you go back to. You get a little offensive line, then you don't need to spend on the running back position. When the Chiefs had the good line, they drafted Pacheco seventh round. He's still not gotten paid. And Lamar Jackson, I'm sorry, if you go back to the Raiders, Ashton Jente is now pricey. He's pricey at that position, and he's just going to be going backwards for the next two years.
A
Well, you know, you can turn your team around, but you got to. You got to get offensive lineman. You know that it starts there. And I think that that's, you know, the shame of all of this is sometimes you'll get a quarterback. We go, man, what a bust. I kind of. Sam Darnold failed in New York. Therefore, he has that label of he's a failure, and it's not fair to him. You play for a bad team, bad organization, and all of a sudden they're asking you to be a savior. First six seasons, he had 21 wins as a starter. The last two seasons, Sam Darnold has 28 wins as a starter. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Stat of the day. Here comes that. What? Stat of the day brought to you by Pimit Panini America. But also, he's playing on better teams. Therefore, Sam Darnold. Now do I think he's a great quarterback. No. Do I think he's a good quarterback? Yes, I do. I think he has the potential to be a good quarterback. Still comes down to what's going to happen in the next couple of weeks. That's it. He gets to the end no matter what happens. Unless he's holding the LA Marty trophy, people are probably going to say, yeah, I knew it. Can't win the big one. Not fair. But that's the sports landscape that we live in. Josh Allen, AFC Wide Open. Now, you got your chance. Not their best team. Now is your chance. Yes. Marvin.
D
And this is his second straight year on being on a really good regular season team. So now he's got to prove it.
A
Yeah. These are big games and your quarterback has to make some big plays at some point for you to advance. Albert Breer on the Browns decision to fire Kevin Stefanski. Who's next today? Steve Young a little later on. And the great college football analyst, Gary Danielson. Two more hours on this Monday. We're back after this. This is an I Heart podcast. Guaranteed human.
