We'll try to answer some of those questions. And I still go back to the and I've been covering drafts for over 35 years now. Best available. You hear that a lot. But then you're going to get a team at the top of the draft. Tennessee Best available. Is that Cam Ward or is it the best available quarterback? Because if I said to you Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter are going to be hall of Famers, let's just say, let's just have fun with this. But to understand the philosophy of NFL GMs now, they're going to be a Hall of Famer. You can take a guy who will be a Hall of Famer or you can take a guy who's the best quarterback in the draft, but you're not sure if he's the guy, if he's going to be a franchise quarterback. He played for three different colleges and now you're going to get him. And yes, he's got athleticism, he's got. He's got what you want. But he would probably have been the fifth or sixth quarterback taken last year. But you're going to at the top of the draft knowing you got to get better, you're going to take him. That's what I don't understand. Like Miles Garrett. Browns took him at number one. He's going to be a Hall of Famer. I don't know if Abdul Carter is Miles Garrett, but boy, he's different. And look at Travis Hunter. By all accounts, he's going to be a Hall of Fame type talent. But you're going to draft a quarterback number one overall and even the Giants at three. Hey, we need a quarterback. Okay, is he the right quarterback for you? And you're there at three. You took two quarterbacks and Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson. But then you hear this. Well, you know, the Giants like him, but they might trade back into the first round. Okay, if you like your quarterback, take your quarterback because you're. Now you're going to run the risk of is he going to be there? And if you're going to trade up to get Daniel Jones and look what happened there. But if you want your guy, get your guy. You're at three. You're at three for a reason because you're not any good. Does that guy make you better next year and he doesn't, will he make you better in year three? Boy, you better hope. Or year two? You better hope because you don't want to be in these situations again. How do I avoid being in this situation again? How about I get some guys who are going to make us better right away? I don't know if Cam Ward is that. I don't know if he's that guy. I know that he's got intangibles and everybody loves what they see and he's got athleticism and a great. I understand all of that. The draft is littered with guys like that. Are you getting the right guy and is he the right guy for your team right now? Wasn't Will Levis your guy? That's how quickly it ends. It could be one year. I mean, the Colts, they might be moving on from Anthony Richardson. I don't even think he's 22. Josh Rosen, one and done jobs are at stake. Giants coaching staff has to win. They have to win. That might be first half of the year. They have to win above.500 records in a division that's got, you know, three other good teams, one great team, one very good team, and one team that could be good, they got to win. So you factor that into the draft, that what makes it really interesting here. And you don't have the marquee talent in the draft. You know, you'll have guys that five years from now, 10 years from now, you go, oh, he was in that draft. But Travis Hunter feels like you can't miss. Wouldn't you want the guy who can't miss over the guy who might miss? What's the poll question, Todd?

Okay, the poll question has to do with the Thunder and how far they're going to go. We've got. I think the Thunder will win the NBA title. Sure. As a 25%. Too early. 75.

Yeah. I think that that's a, you know, it's an easy cop out for people. Just. Do you think they're going to the finals? Yes or no? Not. You know, Are you sure? How sure? Not sure. So I would change that. What else do we have? Poll question wise?

I mean, Oklahoma City starting five is probably 23, 324 average age. And you're asking them to go out there on a big stage. And in some cases, you're facing really experienced teams, hall of Fame coaches. And that does factor in. All right, we'll get phone calls. Yeah.

They're pumping it up and having a good time. And every time you two would go another shot, Dirk would go the practice. He was very frustrated.

Yeah, I was shooting against Avery, Avery Johnson, and we were playing horse and Avery could hit a 15 footer. He never missed. And I tried to take him out deeper and he thought he put me away. And then all of a sudden I make it and you hear Nick Van Exel, he's like, oh, God, like he couldn't believe. It's like back the bus up, you know, basically roll over me. And then Navitsky would get so upset because get it over with the hairdo. Who, Rolando Blackman? Yeah, I was shooting against him. Now, Ro is a good shooter, but I dusted him off and his teammates were roughing him up. I'm like, anybody else want a piece of me? I had nothing to lose because these guys are all NBA players. But Ro Blackman was a really good shooter and we played some game called knockout. Uwe Blop was in the knockout game. I knocked him out too. Oh, come on, get out of here. Media, the circus is in town. Oh my God. Joe in Grand Rapids. Hi, Joe. What's on your mind today? Good morning, Dan. First time, long time. What 5 7-199-Sally-soft? Hey, just about my Detroit Pistons. Too bad they only lasted three quarters. Hopefully they'll put a four quarter game together tonight. I had a suggestion for the manu. He's got a movie with Zac Efron, and I thought, if you want to have some eye candy, me and Zac Efron. Hello. But he just doesn't, you know, Bill Hader. I reached out to him with the, you know, the great show Barry on hbo. I thought I was going to be in. I said, look, I'll play a corpse. I don't care. Crickets. Didn't hear anything back. So it's. I'm grateful for Sandler, but I would love to see maybe another movie set. I'd like to expand my range a little bit, maybe have a love interest.

Let's talk to Chris Haynes, senior NBA insider and host of the Haynes Briefs show on YouTube. He is covering the Bucks and Pacers and then he's going to go to the Rockets and the Warriors. Worst first round loss so far turned in by who?

Well, I mean, I think he definitely got. I mean the worst. I think you say the worst by a point differential. You can say the Memphis Grizzlies, you know, the way they lost to Oklahoma City. But I think most people believe that Oklahoma City is going to get out of the first round relatively unscathed. But the team you just talked about right now, the Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves, even though that's not. I understand the Lakers have the higher seed, but I think that's a pretty even matchup. And I think when you look at the athleticism, you look at the dog of Anthony Edwards and you just look how they went into LA and took care of business in the threes. Those threes were opened up by driving penetration over helping. Anthony Edwards would be able to get to wherever he wanted to get to on the court. And it was setting up guys. And guys found the rhythm, and once they found it, they didn't let go of that rhythm. So the Lakers have some issues for sure.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

The Memphis loss, like, it was laughable. Like, after a while you're just going. I mean, does Memphis have any pride here? And I know we see teams turn it around, get blown out, then they come back and they'll make it competitive, maybe win that game. But OKC seems to have learned something from last year. Like, they, it feels like they understand, you know, how to be a playoff team. I don't know. If you have them going to the NBA Finals.

[Clayton English]

Put me on the spot, dp. I haven't made a selection. Nobody, nobody's ever asked me yet for my prediction. I got them.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

Wait, you know, the playoffs have started, though. Chris, you know how this, this works. You can't wait till, you know.

[Clayton English]

Well, usually, dp, usually that's how it works. Like, if you don't get asked, because now you get to see these games go on, you get to see a trend, and then somebody, they might ask you in the semifinals round, then I'll have a better gauge. I'll look much more smarter and brighter then.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

Okay, but give me your. Give me your two favorites to win the title. Two favorites.

[Clayton English]

Two favorites. Two favorites. I would say OKC come out the west and Boston to come out the East.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

Okay, then give me your other two following them.

[Clayton English]

The other two. I would have to go with. God, it's tough. I, you know, I want to say Denver. I want to, but there's been so much. The team is different, changing of a coach. I think that series with the Clippers is going to go seven games. I don't know who's coming out. I want to say Denver. DP don't hold me to that. Please don't hold me to that. I want to say Denver, but in the East, I understand Cleveland had the best record over there for the most part. Oh, boy. There are about a few other teams that I can see making noise in the East. I think if New York gets on a run, they can do Some things, I think if Damian Lillard gets back, I think the Bucks and Giannis can do some things. It's tougher in the east for me. DP I, I will say, I will say, between New York and Milwaukee, a.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

Team not in the playoffs, the Atlanta Hawks, the Trey Young situation, you know, you look at his numbers and you go, God, those are great numbers. But I don't know what kind of player he is. I mean, I can watch him play and, but it just seems like he's going to put up really good numbers for a team that nobody really cares about. And I wonder, does he need to be on another team to show how good he can really be, how clutch he can be playing in big moments? And I, and I don't know, like Dame Lillard, and maybe it's not a fair comparison, but we'd look at Dame and go, God, he's playing great and meaningless games for the most part, and then all of a sudden he gets traded and it's at the latter part of his career. I don't know if the Hawks are at that point where they go, you know, maybe we're better off without Trey Young. What do you think?

[Clayton English]

So I had Trey on my show, the Hangs Bruce show on YouTube. Everybody check it out. I had him on my show last week and I, I asked him about that dp, just about where he's at with the organization, with his, his career, and he said he's in a good spot. He said he, he knew that there was going to be speculation once the Hawks went to a younger core, had the number one pick. He knew there was going to be speculation about his future. But he said he, he bought in. He took the, you know, Zach number one pick. He brought him to his hometown of Oklahoma to show him around and spend some time with him right after Zach was drafted, just to get him engaged. And so he's somebody who, again, just, just told to me about a week and a week and a half ago that he's down with the process. He wants to see this Atlanta Hawks squad turn the corner, and he wants to be a pivotal part in that. And, and then dp, he changed his game this past season like he was more. I think we know that Trey's a great facilitator, but he modified his game like it wasn't just shoot first trade. You know, this was a guy who was getting guys involved. And so that, that speaks to his maturity and that speaks to, you know, him trying to empower his teammates. But with that being said, there definitely are teams out there who are monitoring his situation and, and trying to see if there's going to become a point this allseason where that he can be had and where he can't be moved. Because he's definitely a guy who want, like Trey is one of the most competitive guys in this league. When he went to that conference finals a few years ago, played against the, you know, he, he wanted, he wanted to continue on. He wanted the organization to do things, to make moves, to keep the team on a trajectory. Now they took a little back step, you know, in recent years. He wants to get back to that point. But as of now, DP I can say I haven't heard anything on Trey side that will lead me to believe that he wants out right now.

Will Giannis finish his career in Milwaukee?

[Clayton English]

I don't think so. I don't think so. I, I, I just, you know, this is going to be a pivotal playoff. This 20, these 20, 25 playoffs for the Milwaukee Bucks. It's going to be pivotal. You know, we'll, if they don't get to the Finals, win the Finals or even make a deep run, you can probably see some wholesale changes going on in Milwaukee from, you know, you can go from coaching staff from front office to the players. Like, it can be a pretty big significant wholesale. If Milwaukee Bucks don't make a significant.

Run this postseason, could you see them trading Giannis?

[Clayton English]

I could see them going in a different direction and yeah, I can, I can see that possibility if things go sour this postseason, for sure.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

He's Chris Haynes, senior NBA Insider, host of the Hanes Briefs show on YouTube. He's covering Bucks Pacers for Game 2 and then heading to the Rockets and the warriors, you know, the warriors winning the game against Houston and then we see that playoff experience that they have in Golden State, to me, is a fascinating situation because can you do this? Can you win four games? Can that group, you know, because that's what it takes. Every one of these series, you, you can say, are you able to win four? And I think they, I think they could go to the Western Conference finals. And I don't know if anybody would be surprised, but would you be more surprised if the warriors went to the Western Conference finals or the Lakers did?

[Clayton English]

I will be more surprised if the Lakers went to the Western Conference finals because the Golden State wars, they still have their nucleus in place and they've upgraded and Jimmy Butler, somebody who fits seamlessly in what they're trying to do on the offensive end and defensive end. The Lakers, we Knew there was going to be some growing pains. You're talking about two hall of Fame basketball players, but they have very similar ways of playing the game and they both require the ball. And it's worked better than what I, what I thought when I'm talking about LeBron James and Luka Donkeys. But we talking about going to State, man, they're just plugging in. You know, Jimmy Butler was somebody who could fit in. You saw what he, what he did. Clutch baskets after clutch baskets, making plays. And he's somebody that doesn't have to take a lot of shots to be efficient. And so I, I think if I, you know, I'm talking about the Lakers and Warriors, I think the warriors will have a easier path to get to get to the finals then the Lakers.

Best tandem in basketball right now is.

[Clayton English]

Who Are we talking about tandems in the playoffs or overall?

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

Let's do playoffs.

Dp. You know what, dp, you're really good at what you do because, you know, this is, this is why. This is why you get a lot out of Charles Barkley. You know, you know how to answer, you know how to ask the right questions. You never know what you're going to ask, and it requires an answer. So let me say now you were.

Yeah, but I don't want safe. Do you really feel that right now the best tandem in basketball is Tatum and Brown over Jimmy, Stephen Luca, LeBron.

But which team did the best job of tanking for Cooper Flag?

You know what it was? It was a lot of teams that had a really good job. You know, I'm going to go with the Utah Jazz, they let it be known pretty early on. They put out a. They put out a release and just basically said, these seven guys aren't playing for the rest of the season. You know, it was these. These minor injuries.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

The NBA awards season, you have to play at least 65 games. I was wondering, Jaren Jackson Jr. I thought, was going to win the Defensive Player of the Year. He's not one of the finalists here.

[Clayton English]

How many games did he play?

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

It's. He played 74, but he's not one. So, yeah, it wasn't even one of those where. Because he gets that super max deal if he wins Defensive Player of the Year again. And I thought with Victor Wembanyama out, then he was the favorite. He's not even one of the. I got Dyson Daniels, Draymond. Oh, come on.

[Clayton English]

Evan Mobley.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

What, do we put Draymond in there?

[Clayton English]

Well, hey, dp, Draymond's had a phenomenal season. I know, but, you know, Dyson Daniels leads the league and steals Evan Mobley. I. I would have. You know, I. I felt like all along Evan Mobley might have been the front runner to win that award. What he's done with.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

I think. I think he's going to win it.

[Clayton English]

Yeah, I. I do think. I think so as well. I think he's the favorite. But Jaren Jackson, you know, it was a tough. This was a tough one this year. And. And dp, I'm telling you, I don't have a vote this season, which I'm glad, because DP around this time, you know, players that have those clauses in their contract, they start to call me around the last two weeks of the season. Hey, you know my situation. Who you voting for? And it just puts me in a tough spot. I'm not gonna name names, but I've had multiple players call me constantly over the past, you know, the lab. About the last two weeks of the season just to get a gauge, and I'm like, damn, man, that's. That's tough spot to be in.

[Brendan Patrick Hughes]

Anybody try to buy your vote? Like saying, hey, Chris, man, I. I got these new Jordans, and what size do you wear? And. Or, hey, you know, why don't you go out. Go out to dinner? You know, maybe. Maybe go to Cabo. I'll make sure you take care of it.

No, no, they. They haven't said that. They haven't tried to buy it, but what they did do. They. They do. They do try to propose an appearance. You know what. Hey, you know, they. The way they say it, like, hey, you know what? You have a nice show. I could think about coming on if.

Now I'm going to start with obviously the unicorn, Travis Hunter. Maybe, maybe he plays both sides of the ball, but I'm just looking at him. But I'm just looking at him. As far as a wide receiver, where do you see him making the biggest impact going into the pros?

[Todd Fritz]

I see that as well. I think he'd be make more of an impact as a wide receiver. I'm very curious. With whatever team picks him, I gotta believe they're gonna at least early on try him out in both spots. I know you increase the risk of injury and all that, but as you said, being a unicorn, how do you have someone that has that kind of special talent and not let him try both sides of the ball? I definitely think he's more of a wide receiver as far as for the NFL. I think he obviously could be great in the secondary, but I'm excited to see and I hope whoever picks him will let him play both offense and defense.

And another guy, we talked about him a lot during the college football season. Tyler Warren, the tight end.

Ooh, good call.

I love him. I think he's going to make a Brock Bowers like impact going into whatever team he goes to.

I like that analogy a lot.

He's a football player in every sense of the word. You want him to run the ball, you want him to catch the ball. Look, he'll even throw the ball. So I love him going into the pros.

I wish Denver would get him. Whoever gets that guy is going to have a stud and I think he's going to make an immediate impact.

Oh absolutely.

And then there's Genti, Boise State. How can we not talk about him? And are you convinced that right out of the get go he's going to be able to live up to expectations and become one of the all time great running backs? Is there too much hype? Is that going to hurt him that the expectations are kind of through the roof?

The only reason why I'm really not worried about Genty is because running backs, that's the one position where you can make an impact on a team right away and become an all pro as a rookie in the pros.

Love it. And I don't think they gave them that many jerseys back then. So I'm guessing that was his jersey. You know, for half of the games that he played in that year. The home and away. All right, how about we go around the room? Best and worst of the weekend. Todd, I'm going to start with you.

My best of the weekend was the Nuggets. Russell Westbrook in Game 1 against the Clippers Saturday. Clutch three point at the end of regulation. Scored 10 points in the fourth and overtime in the win over L. A. Made a huge defensive play to clinch the victory. So I like how that played out for Russell Westbrook and the Nuggets. Worst of the weekend Found this interesting. Sadly. After initially announcing Only the first 20,000 fans in attendance would receive a Paul Skeens bobblehead, the Pirates brass decided to give a voucher so that all in attendance can receive one. So that started out very nice. But as the Pirates lost three nothing to the Guardians on Saturday, wasting a very strong outing from Paul Skeens, the sellout crowd started chanting sell the team loudly echoing throughout the Pirates ballpark.

You know, it's a shame. It's a great city, they love their baseball, great ballpark, but they're not going anywhere and they've got young talent. They're just not going anywhere. And if you're a fan, you hate to be sort of a. A pit stop. A. A You know, a truck stop. Hey, just dropping off some players. I'll be back to pick them up and take them to some other team. I mean, Skeens isn't going to end his career there. And you know, I get it. Like how much do you support a team that is really a minor league team? For some other teams you don't spend money. You're in the bottom, like bottom seven payroll. They haven't been to a NLCS since what, 92? When's the last time that they made the playoffs? Like over a decade ago, maybe 12 years ago. Was it 2013? Yeah. Paulie. Yeah.

The Pirates made the playoffs 13, 14 and 15.

Okay.

In the past 32 years. They made the playoffs those three times.

Yeah, but this is baseball. I mean, look at what's going on in Sacramento and they don't even have the camera angles. Aaron Judge hits a home run. The, the Tampa situation as well, the Sacramento situation. You know, you got a home run, it's not a home run. Wait a minute. You know, you're trying to get the right angle here. Aaron Boone gets tossed from the game. It's just, this is. This isn't as many great things as baseball has done. This is an embarrassment. It is. You're going to be in Sacramento for another couple of years. It's major league baseball. It's not like the Kansas City Chiefs are playing their games at Southwest Missouri State. I mean, come on, what are we doing? Okay, Marvin, best and worst of the weekend.

Our best of the weekend, the New York Knicks going on a 210 run in the fourth quarter against the Pistons led by Cameron Payne. That was not on my bingo card. Worst of the weekend, the Baltimore Orioles. They're a major league team. They lost 242 to the Cincinnati Reds. Embarrassing.

Did the Bengals score 24 points against the Ravens in a game this year? I'm curious. Since The Reds scored 24 against the Orioles. Paulie, best and worst of the week.

Staying with that Yankees games you're talking about this week down at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the minor league park. Yankees left handed ace Max Freed finished what appeared to be the seventh inning hitless, no hitter. But then a play a couple innings earlier got changed from the six inning and so he lost to no hitter while sitting on the bench.

Okay, there, there has to be a window here where you go. Okay, we're going to go back and look at something. How about you get a half of an inning. If you want to go back and change something, if you want to look back, you want to look at replay. But the ball was bobbled. And then the umpire said, well, they thought that maybe the runner was, you know, would have beaten Goldschmidt to the base. Okay, if he doesn't bobble the ball, does the runner get to first base? He bobbled it. Therefore, it brings into question of can he get to the bag before the runner? That's an error. And then you wait two innings later. It's just not fair to all involved there. And I know that baseball changes a lot of hits to an error, error to a hit. I understand that. But this is a no hitter. Can we get, like, what else is a higher priority than this? I mean, I'd love to hear it. Yeah. Pauling.

I still have had best of the weekend, and this is going to go back because it has to be mentioned. Rory McElroy at the Masters. That was beyond just Rory and a lot of people rooting for him. And he had it. Then he didn't have it. Then he had it, and he didn't have it. Then he had it. CBS did a fantastic job. Whoever the director and camera person are that followed rory off the 18th green with his emotion, they should get a raise. Beautiful broadcast. Beautiful day. One of the easily top 10 sports viewing days of my life. And I think a lot of people would agree. Just a beautiful day of watching sports.

Well, it was emotional. It wasn't good golf. No, because they didn't. I mean, Rory was his own worst enemy. I was disappointed in Golf channel because the four hours leading up to the final round was 95, 90% Rory, 5% DeChambeau, and 5% the rest of the field. I. It was just way too top heavy. And again, yes, Rory ended up winning. Nobody gave Justin Rose any chance going in the final round. It was DeChambeau. I just think, you know, be fair to what could happen at Augusta.
