Broadcasting live from the True Crime Today studios to the world, this is Murder in the Morning with Tony Brewski and Stacey Cole from the hit killers podcast.
Stacey Cole
Murder in the Morning. Well, the Diddy documentary is out on Peacock making of a bad boy if you want to go check that out. But this isn't even about that. This is about new allegations of sexual assault involving a minor.
Tony. I had to go back and check because I saw the story and I looked at it and it said it was released like two hours ago. And I went, are we sure? Yeah, sounds like one that we had a couple days ago. So then I'm digging and digging and I'm like, oh my God, it is a new one.
It is a new one. And it's hard because it's like, I mean they're all, these are all very serious allegations and if they're true, I mean, very traumatic things that happen. It seems like his, I don't know how to say this, but his heavy years into things with minors, a lot of it seems to be like early 2000s. I mean there does seem to be some stuff later, but there seems to be a lot of allegations that are coming out of the, the era. I mean, it makes sense. It was the era when he had his, you know, when he was on top of the world with his music. When, when we were playing him on top 40 radio back in the late 90s and early 2000s, you know, back when it was mourning the loss of Biggie and he had the, you know, the remake of the Sting song and then it was more money, more problems and all that shit. Yeah, it goes back to that. The new allegations involve a lawsuit alleging the rape of a 16 year old girl in 2000, adding to the growing list of sexual misconduct accusations against him. This time the plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, claims that as a high school student in lower Manhattan, she encountered Combs while working as a babysitter in the same apartment building where Combs then romantic partner resided. That's great. So you're going to go after the 16 year old in the building where your girlfriend lives.
That screams deviant. Alleged deviant.
And around this time he was playing I need a girl to ride, ride, ride I need a girl to live my life I need a girl. Another, according to the lawsuit Combs offered the teenager a ride home on multiple occasions. You know, like everyone has happened when Diddy offers you a ride home and you're 16, which she initially declined. Wow. Okay, good for you.
I wonder if her red flags are going off and she somehow dismissed them, as a lot of young girls do, I'm thinking.
So after persistent offers, she accepted instead of taking her home. The lawsuit alleges a Comb, accompanied by two unnamed male employees drove her to a different location. And during the ride, she was offered a drink to calm her down, which led her to feel groggy and unsteady. This is all sign of kind of good thing was like, hey, you want some baby oil to rub on yourself while you're driving?
Yeah, right.
What the fuck is that? Who does this? Diddy made her feel groggy and unsteady. The plaintiff alleged that Combs then raped her before she was returned to her apartment building and left in the lobby. The lawsuit is among more than 30 filed against Combs, accusing him of various forms of sexual misconduct. Combs legal team has consistently denied these allegations. In a statement to People magazine, his attorneys asserted, no matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won't change the fact that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone, man or woman. Adulter, minor. I don't know why they sounded old this time. They emphasized confidence in the judicial process, stating that Combs is confident he will prevail in court. Yeah, good luck with that. Currently, Combs is detained in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention center, awaiting trial in federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. He's pled not guilty to these charges and the trial scheduled for May 5, 2020. I think we need to help everybody understand in case you're not aware of how this all works, and I don't blame you. I wasn't until I started doing true crime shit. There's civil courts, there's federal courts, there's state courts, all that. Different type of things, civil. This is a civil lawsuit against him seeking monetary damages, and that's even if he's found guilty. He's not. There's no criminal meaning you're going to go to jail with it. But here's the fun part. You already have a federal sex trafficking investigation going on into you, and you've been charged and you're in prison for that. They're going to look at all these things very closely. Far more than just a civil suit would do. That's going to be normally, that's going to be just your attorneys and all that Digging into these things and hiring experts to dig and dig and dig and dig. On this occasion and all 30 of these occasions, the feds are looking at these, going, let's see what we have here. Normally the feds don't get involved in this sort of stuff unless there's this level of deviant accusations going on.
So they've got a lot to do. And some celebrity really isn't on their radar until he has to be on the radar.
And the Feds are not going to move in until they have their case. And that's the big thing to remember here. The feds don't lose cases. It's a very, very steep hill to climb if you're going to beat them.
And you've got a federal indictment in front of you. Yeah, they have done their due diligence.
And you are screwed because you probably did what they said because they have the proof in front of them. Literally in front of them. Yeah, that says this. I mean, they didn't indict him the day that they raided his house. They raided his house. They found the stuff. He was free for a while. He went on those European vacations and all that stuff. And then they got through the tapes and everything, they went and go, we're gonna indict you for all these things because it's right here. The mounting legal challenges have significantly impacted Combs public image and business ventures. Once a dominant figure in the music industry, his reputation is obviously been marred by these serious allegations. Everybody is watching the details of where this is going to go. Combs attorney have reiterated the stance, stating, we live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find truth. And Mr. Combs is confident he will prevail in court. Really? How about when they show the fucking videos? I don't know how. Although R. Kelly survived it, I've said that a thousand times, like he was there having raping a child with his fucking Soul Train awards in the background in his house. And in the 90s or whenever the fuck that trial happened, he was found innocent. So I guess anything's possible.
But I feel like times have changed. I think people are a little bit less tolerant of the whole it's a celebrity concept. And I think our minds have changed that. You know what? You gazillionaires, fuck you. You do something wrong, you're gonna pay.
Yeah, I would agree. I think that there's a lot less leniency to celebrities than there used to be. But you have your hardcore fans, but it's. I feel like the. Here's the difference. We live in a world where you can be a fan of pretty much anything. Now. We. When Diddy was coming up, when Diddy was a superstar in the early 90s, social media, it didn't exist. We didn't know what the fuck it was because it wasn't a thing. So there was much larger concentration of attention to single individuals or single TV shows or single movies or whatever. And then everything broke apart with social media and ways of consuming content. And suddenly all these giant tribes of people that were just for one person or this or that broke apart into all these different interests and such. So your army of people that were behind you now suddenly like, oh, it's not as big as you thought it was, because people have other options of what they want to be interested in and can follow. And so now your tribe of backers is slim to nil. I mean, look at this. I mean, it said. It speaks fucking volumes that there has been no celebrity yet that has stood up and said, I don't believe these charges against Sean Combs. This is injustice. This is not right. Even fucking Jay Z, who's in one of the civil suits, has not disowned him or said anything. I mean, it's. Or has said, you know, this is. He's a horrible human being. Everybody is kind of silent about all of this because I think they know there's a lot of truth to this.
I think they've known for a long time. I think there's been a lot of discomfort around him and knowing that he's a celebrity and he can get away with stuff. And now that he's been called on the carpet for this, they just are sitting back going, okay, we're going to let the system handle what we. What we've known all along. Allegedly.
Yeah. In the new documentary that's out on Peacock, you can watch it right now. The. One of the bigger allegations in it that I found very interesting comes from a childhood friend of. Of Diddy. And he talks about life when Diddy was a kid. And basically, and I'm going to kind of just ad lib and summarize. Diddy, he didn't grow up on the streets. He wasn't like on the streets of Compton, like Dr. Dre or anything like that. He lived a very privileged life. He had money, his mom had a big settlement and everything after his father was murdered, which that's traumatizing in itself. But then we learn more about Sean Combs. As a kid and he would get beat up and people didn't take him seriously. So there's a lot of insecurity coming from childhood. And add into the fact that there's allegations now that his mom was having sex parties at his childhood home while he was a kid. If that's true, it certainly doesn't wash away anything and it certainly doesn't justify anything. But it tells you more what's in the recipe and why we have who we have today. And yeah, I mean, I always say that what's in the recipe doesn't excuse anything, but it certainly makes you go, oh, okay, I understand this more why this person is the way they are. Because, I mean, that's abuse in itself. And if that's all he's known and this was a normal thing to him. And then when he was young and got celebrity status at a very young age, kind of just keep going with what you know, and you never. He's never really lived much of a life outside of what his, you know, mom brought him up with. And if this is true, it's not a great upbringing. And then straight into celebrity and doing whatever you want, however you want, whenever you want, with who you want. And so there really never has been the bumpers in life for him to say, this is wrong. This. You should not do that that most of us have. And if you add, you know, narcissism, everything else in there, you have the perfect cocktail of a really horrible human being potentially. And he seem to go down that road. So those are interesting allegations. And there's also other things in there from former bodyguards talking about what they saw. Al B. Sure is in there as well. Speaking about Combs relationship with the late Kim Porter, who is the mother of several of his kids. She was also in a relationship with LB sure as well. Thinking about it night and day, providing new insights into the personal dynamics. Three people got what I just did there.
I got it.
I'm excited, too.
I got it. I went, hey, I see what you did there.
Thinking about it night and day. Yeah, it was like his only hit, wasn't it?
Yeah, I think so.
LB sure would have thought we'd be saying his name again at some point in time. Then you have also Sarah Rivers account for making the band. She was a winner on making the band back in the day. And she has allegations of instances of misconduct during her time under that mentorship. So there's a lot in this new one that's on Peacock. It just keeps getting darker.
God, it's nighttime. Isn't it?
Mm. It's. It's not gonna get better. So that's where that is. Those are the new allegations. That's the latest on Diddy. I'm sure there'll be something new tomorrow as. As there always is. I haven't seen a case like this where it's just this. It's certainly bigger than Epstein. It's. I don't know. We've seen a sexual assault or a case where you have this level of. This amount of people that are having horrific claims about somebody who was such a mainstream superstar. I mean, we've had it against people who've been like, you know, I kind of question them a bit. Like, they're kind of a little bit shady. But, like, this is. He was fucking mainstream. He was on Nickelodeon on shows with kids at this point in time.
Oh, God, that hurts my heart.
And it was just. I mean, he. He played the facade. He had everybody believing he was a different person than he is allegedly. And I think we're going to certainly see that come out here in the coming months if we have the trial this year, which I highly doubt.
But I. I really feel like I want some of my. My teen years back because I've lost Bill Cosby, Diddy. I mean, there's. There's just so many people that you.
And your 20s growing up with these.
People, and it's like, ew.
Yeah, it's. It's. It's shocking. I mean, if you would have. You look back on things from back then, it is shocking to see how many people have gone down from that era that were looked at as very, you know, upstanding or just not. Not necessarily upstanding, but just not. Not people who do this.
No. And. And Bill Cosby was America's dad.
He was upstanding. Yeah.
Dad was. Yeah. I'm not even going to say it.
I mean, fucking blaze fucking trails. And. And you can't deny the impact of what he did, especially for the people of color, black community and such. I mean, that's. He did. He opened fucking doors. We didn't know what he was doing behind the scenes, I guess. But without that, I mean, there probably would have been somebody else that would have blazed it. But at the same point, it's just so sickening to see that somebody that they're aware, they're blazing these trails and the example that they. They are setting and they've such. Such high regard with society that they are able to go and do these things and think there'll be no, no repercussions and that, or if they did get caught, just the repercussions to what they've done and how it damages that image and how it damages just people's thoughts and feelings about them. But the thing is, they don't care. They're only thinking of themselves. And once you reach a certain level of stardom, you know, I guess it's probably really difficult to, to not be a raging fucking narcissist. I don't know. But some people pull it off quite well. And some people go down the narcissist road and live a life like Diddy did.
You know, I think we extend a bit too much power and admiration to our celebrities. I think we also elevate them to a place where they start to think they can get away with everything.
Yeah, Diddy ain't fucking Rosa Parks and neither was fucking Bill Cosby, but they had a very big fucking micro, big, big spotlight on them for many years. And they let everyone down to such a tragic extent. And I don't know how you contemplate that. I don't know how you make that square in your mind. If you are that person. I don't think you can. I don't think the brain allows it, quite honestly, for most people. And I think that's how they're able to kind of sit in their denial eternally until the people around them go, you can deny this all you want, but here's what you did. It's like fucking Lori Valo Daybell. In a way, she still is in her delusional land even though she knows what she did. But I think the brain copes in weird ways. And then it goes to denial and kind of rewrites itself or overwrites the, the tragedy of what they did in their own mind. And so to them it's not real, but to everybody else it is. And that's what makes it so confusing and so damaging and so just abhorrent to the outside world because you're like, holy shit, why can you not take like any sort of responsibility for it? They're not capable.
