My oldest 17 year old just graduated high school. Yes, I was young. It happens. I'm so proud of him. Man, kids these days. For context, the first 14 years of his and his brother's life. I was a single mother until I met the love of my life who came in and accepted my boys as his own. Now my son has struggled extremely bad with ADHD like myself and learning setbacks since he was 4 years old and refuses to medicate. But I digress. Anyways, he had zero plan for after high school. And I'll be damned if he lives at home as a grown man working a BS job, playing video games with no real direction in life. So we as a family came up with the Navy as an option. He joined Junior ROTC or ROTC of some sort in high school and everything. Well, three ASVAB tests later and he still cannot get a high enough score to get in. He turns 18 in a couple of weeks. Happy birthday. And then can take the test again. This is where I feel like a bad mom. Because it's get a good enough score to enlist or you're 18 and you gotta figure life out, just not from home. As a mom, I don't fully agree, but as a wife to a Jamaican man, I have to back this. I'm struggling and need some words of wisdom or even just validation. Ebro, you aren't a guru, so hush. Haha. The last couple of sentences in there really took the whole thing and shifted what we're talking about, in my opinion, a lot. Because it went from you're. You're not gonna be in this house to my husband says you're not gonna be in this house. Which, yeah, but does change.

I. I don't know. And it's so funny, when I read the subject to this email, I thought it was gonna be the mom panicking because her son wants to join the Navy. That was where I thought it was going based on, like, the subject. Like my almost Navy son. Turns out that's not the case at all, which is fine. She's supportive of this and thinks it's a good idea, which is fine, is cool. But to your guys point, like, I don't know, is it, Is it good? I'm asking legitimately, completely in earnest, is it good to just decide you can't be 18 and be in the house? No, because living here in the tri state. I don't know where they live here in the tri state, particularly in the boroughs and North Jersey. 18 does not mean leave the house. People live in their houses in New York till they're 25 years years old. Like, it's very, very,

you know, that's why I said it needs to be cleaner than just like, yo, you got to get out. You're 18. I think it needs to be more sophisticated than I wonder, like, because he might be depressed. He's not passing a test. He's doing. He's attempting to do something. He's always struggling with learning stuff that's not going well.

And the. And he's not getting the, like, upliftment and support. He's getting like, yo, what are you doing?

But that's your Jamaican man. But now you're telling me that's actually coming from the husband who's been around three years, met him as a teenager. This is not an ideal situation.

And by the way, where is real dad? Is real dad completely out of the picture? Because maybe this is a place where he could be helpful.

I'm assuming as well. But, but again, I, I also assumed it the whole time, till I got to the end, that this was her wishes. Are you sure that it's best for your son? Like, isn't there a world in which, okay, he doesn't get into the Navy? Because she, she even said, guys, this is what I thought was very harsh to Ebro's point about not being that sophisticated. She was like, you're not just gonna work some dead, dead end job job and stay here and play video games. So you're saying even if he has a job, he's only 18, he has to be at a firm. Like he can't just get a job.

Guys, guys, today, literally today, my nephew is traveling to Japan. He's 18, just graduated. He went on this school trip, but it's a small trip with like 12 kids. They do it every couple years. And they're the plans at the airport. I've been texting with them all morning. Everything's gone haywire. We're not gonna make the first flight. Some kids gotta get on this flight. Some kids got.

Anyways, I talked to my brother. He calls my brother and he's like, well, you know, I don't really. You got this. And I was thinking, he's a boy. He's at the airport. Like, I've never even been at the airport by myself. Like I'm going to Japan. So to your point, it's, it's scary, man.

And, and I don't know, look, I'm sure in some communities and households and cultures, they give, you know, boys grace, but a lot of them, clearly in this email you have people who are like, you're 18 now.

Put him in a trade school, you know what I mean? Put him something that's going to lead him to a, a better opportunity in life. That's not a dead end job. But you have to continue to support him. You cannot just, just dump them at the Navy. Like I, I, I don't agree with that, man. I don't. But it seems like we need, we need an update. Right? We want some more answers and hopefully, you know, you guys can figure this out.

He's a kid. This. This is. I don't want to make her feel bad or overly worried, but these are critical times.
