Peter Rosenberg
Just don't call it a podcast. The Ebro Laura Rosenberg show. Okay, Ebro and Laura and Rosenberg on a Frau for for Friday.
Ebro Darden
Yes, Laura, is there anything that hit that that you more agreed with in the algorithm of things you saw this week than the video I sent you of the guy rocking out saying the DuckTales theme song had no business being this fire?
Laura Styles
That was so good, yo, the guy.
Ebro Darden
But the way it's a straight up blue eyed soul banger. It literally sounds like a Hall of Notes record.
Laura Styles
I think people forget, but I told Rosenberg. Yeah, I used to dream about diving into gold coins.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, that was Laura's response. I used to sit there and dream of diving into gold coins.
Peter Rosenberg
Now it's a fire intro.
Ebro Darden
Fire intro. Life is like a hurricane. They really nailed it. Who wrote that joint?
Laura Styles
It is fire, Fire, fire, fire.
Ebro Darden
Yo, you know who we might get on the program?
Peter Rosenberg
Who's that?
Ebro Darden
I got a text last week when the announcement came out about my show in development in Hulu at Hulu.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Ebro Darden
Someone reached out who I know through something else who works at A publishing company. And he was like, hey, I saw about your show. It's gonna get flagged, though. It's on. It's on streaming. I checked.
Laura Styles
History.
Ebro Darden
Fire. I'm surprised. You know, it feels like too young for you.
Peter Rosenberg
It is. I think I. I recall I used to go to someone's house after school
Ebro Darden
and like, their little sibling kids were
Peter Rosenberg
watching it, like a little sibling.
Laura Styles
And I was like, too fire for you to ignore?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I don't know. I just heard it a lot for some reason.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, you feel, like, slightly old for
Peter Rosenberg
it, but I can't remember a show.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, the show was good too.
Laura Styles
Fun show. Okay, Rosenberg.
Ebro Darden
So. So real quick.
Laura Styles
Oh, okay. It was written by Mark Mueller.
Ebro Darden
Mark Mueller.
Laura Styles
He wrote the demo in less than an hour airing, aiming for pop radio sound rather than a traditional cartoon song.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I got needs a remix. That sounded thin. I'm gonna keep it on it didn't I? I remember a little bit more oomph.
Ebro Darden
Yeah. Well, by the way, maybe the version available for streaming is not the.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
Anyways, this person reached out because they were like, hey, I have a client who could be interesting for your Hulu show. And I said, oh, yeah, cool. Possibly. I said, would that person be up for doing an interview? And they're going to be in town in October. And that person is, Ladies and gentlemen, John Oates of Hall and Oates. And I said, that would be a fun conversation.
Peter Rosenberg
He's like, who's cooler, John?
Ebro Darden
Or, I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
Didn't they have a falling out yet? Something.
Ebro Darden
They mended it. I think they recently figured it out.
Laura Styles
Okay.
Ebro Darden
I don't know. Truthfully, I don't know. This is one of the things to have the conversation about. I don't know exactly. I kind of feel like it might be Hall. I feel like it's always the main guy. That's often the problem in the situation.
Peter Rosenberg
Daryl Hall, John Oates.
Ebro Darden
Darrell hall is seen as the bigger of the two because Oats the block. Yeah. Oats's crazy mustache.
Peter Rosenberg
Crazy fits. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ebro Darden
But, but, but his, like, harmonizing was fire, too. But Daryl.
Peter Rosenberg
And he did some producing too, right?
Ebro Darden
Or something. I. I don't know who did more producing anyways, though. I said we'd love to have a conversation sometime, though.
Laura Styles
That's pretty cool.
Peter Rosenberg
I like to hear yo things we didn't get to this week. Speaking of Rosenberg's Hulu situation, shout out to my Guy Demizza, who did a little coverage on you in the whole academics kerfuffle this week.
Ebro Darden
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
You saw, you saw that clip. Handy Rasan, what number was that?
Ebro Darden
Griff, the Mizza who's like, he found himself in a new. His. Well, how would you describe what his. His brand?
Peter Rosenberg
He's like a industry. Music industry news Instagram reporter. Yeah, slash. But I know he's doing some other endeavors too, so I don't want to.
Ebro Darden
No, no. But for his social media.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, social media, definitely. Like. And he'll hit you with the. What's his little catchphrase?
Laura Styles
Story developing.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, story developing. Yeah, he'll. He'll close. So he's leaning in on like, you know, this week. He's got a little voice too.
Laura Styles
It's cool. It's cool.
Ebro Darden
But he, for recent years, he hadn't been in front of the mic right. Well, he been behind the scenes.
Peter Rosenberg
So the backstory on Demizza, I met him when he was Assistant Program Director, Power106LADJ and then also ended up putting out producing records and. And putting out records right too. And you know, he's got records with Jermaine Dupree. He's got. Right. Like Mariah remixes. Like he did a lot of. A lot of notable things. You got the clip though, of our guy.
Narrator
Peter Rosenberg is stepping into a new phase of his career after leaving Hot 97 and launching a new show alongside Ebro and Laura Styles. At the same time, he's expanding into television as a creator and executive producer of the upcoming Hulu comedy Double or Nothing. A music driven series centered around generational contrast and creative reinvention. Move marks a clear evolution from traditional radio into multi platform storytelling, positioning Rosenberg as part of a broader shift in hip hop media. You gotta tip your hat to that. He's also been moving across platforms for years, including his role as a regular commentator on the wwe. Now on the Ebro side, it's heating up. A recent on air clash with DJ Akademiks highlights the growing divide between legacy voices rooted in radio culture and relationships, and new digital personalities built on speed, volume and online influence. The feud has gotten personal with Ebro openly questioning academics credibility, while academics has fired back at traditional media, accusing it of bias and gatekeeping, especially when it comes to artists like Drake. But if you zoom out, this is bigger than both of them. While the approaches differ, both represent powerful models in today's landscape, underscoring that the future of media isn't just about choosing sides. It's about understanding how to operate across all platforms. And as the ecosystem continues to expand. Congratulations, Rosenberg.
Ebro Darden
Hey, thanks man, that was nice. I appreciate it.
Peter Rosenberg
Interesting enough, which I. Which is. Which is funny. As long as we've been making digital things, we crack jokes about this. We've been on YouTube at least I have since 2004 or 5. Rosemary, you've been on YouTube doing stuff since oh, 5? Yeah. Most of the stuff that we were putting on the Hot 97 channel when we were there, we allowed them to run that and their teams to run that. So we weren't really able to. Even as much as we push it would be based on staffing and what the priorities of the business are. We weren't able to say, hey, put this out, do this here, do that there. We did take some things under our own kind of management for social media with, you know, certain IG accounts and things like that. But yeah, it's interesting that with the
Ebro Darden
look, the perception that it's all new
Peter Rosenberg
for us, that it's all new.
Ebro Darden
Yeah. I realized when I was having that conversation the other day about how some people are keeping score in a game that we were not playing.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
It's almost as if, when I've had my back and forth with the Vlads and the academics of the world, it's as if they're saying, like. Because I'm sure in insulting them, maybe at times I've been like, whatever, YouTuber. I'm sure I've said something like that while being annoyed, but they're acting as if, like, I'm taking a dump. Like, that's not a good way to handle your business.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, but it's not that.
Ebro Darden
It's that you tried to. You dumped completely on the fact that we enjoyed old media. Like, that is literally what our passion was. No one, no one said, hey, don't do YouTube. In fact, we were on YouTube. It just wasn't our endeavor. I looked the other day when I think Vlad had threatened to. Wanted to box me or whatever it was and in thinking about keeping how we keep score differently, because I remember one of the things he did was he pulled up my YouTube channel and was like, Rosenberg's had this YouTube channel for X amount of years. He has 50,000 subscribers.
Peter Rosenberg
That's pretty good.
Ebro Darden
Well, Ebro. Exactly. I only have a couple hundred videos over the last 20 years.
Laura Styles
Right.
Ebro Darden
So for fun again, just. And not to point out that this is, like, bad, but just how different our approach is to.
Peter Rosenberg
To work.
Ebro Darden
DJ Vlad's popular YouTube channel has 50,000 videos. 50,000 videos. This is a completely different. Yeah, we're playing different games completely.
Peter Rosenberg
Why? But now that we are also at that level, of speed and. And moving. Because the controversy, or a part of the controversy even in this studio that y' all looking at on this family fought Friday, which we're getting to big stuff. The controversy exists that I was building this space regardless of where the Hot 97 relationship was going. Because over years of me pushing and prodding and trying to work with different management, ownership changes, the speed at which and the items that they put out weren't up to par. That was like a whole thing. But I believe in the Hot 97 brand. Like, I think it's a great brand. It serves a great community, and I was glad to be a part of it.
Ebro Darden
Well, and we loved the daily radio that you can, like, just catch people on the radio.
Peter Rosenberg
But the amount of content that we were making every day, 80% of it, 90% of it was not being seen or marketed. That was a problem.
Laura Styles
90%.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
For sure. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
For the convers, even just now. Yes. You would see. Congratulations. You played yourself a little bit. You would see Laura talking about whatever's going on in the news. But the conversations that you guys have subscribed to either here on YouTube and you're hitting the hype button and doing all the things shout out to the Yellow army or y' all that are on Patreon and people are walking up like, yo, I love. I love the combos you're having. I'm like, wow, you really didn't.
Laura Styles
Yeah. Some people are just brand new.
Peter Rosenberg
They never heard our conversation. They think we're on this now. They think us talking about you talking about Israel. The way you talk about it is a newfound thing for you.
Ebro Darden
Right. In the last. Since December.
Peter Rosenberg
They can go on YouTube right now. What year was that? We talked to AOC when people. 2018, where we're calling Israel a white supremacist institution. I'm calling Netanyahu a racist. I'm sitting down with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez before she was even really on most of Yalls radar.
Ebro Darden
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So they just didn't know.
Ebro Darden
Yeah. So it looks. So as a result, it makes it look as if we're brand and we are new to it in the sense that this is our place, that we go every day.
Laura Styles
Correct.
Ebro Darden
But anyways, shouts to the Mizza is the point.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. Big up to Dumiza. Another thing I missed this week. Are you. Have you guys been following the mom? Donnie. Transparency on the potholes. And do you like it?
Laura Styles
I saw it. Yeah. I'm with it.
Ebro Darden
What's the transparency on the pot?
Peter Rosenberg
So you didn't see it. Do you have that? Rahsaan. Let's take a look at these slides up here.
Ebro Darden
I apologize. I'm a little behind. Sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
That's okay. He had a pothole blitz. This is from mom Donnie's Instagram account. Not a rush, mayor. There's. But there's potholes everywhere. My time literally crying, hang up. My car tires are hanging on by a threat.
Ebro Darden
Okay. He wrote on it, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you went one too far.
Ebro Darden
Pothole blitz.
Peter Rosenberg
That was Saturday. Pothole blitz one. And then they had a number you could call. And then you have the next slide after that. Or was just those two.
Laura Styles
Okay, okay, okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, they were like.
Laura Styles
He was hiring people for it.
Peter Rosenberg
He was hiring people, investing in getting people out to work, covering potholes. They did some sort of, like 20,000 different potholes. And we're like, yo, hit this number. And with 36 hours, we'll be there to cover Powells.
Ebro Darden
And so what's the. What's the interesting part? Besides, like, that's.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't remember a time when this type of conversation was taking place, because potholes have always been a convo.
Ebro Darden
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And you, as a non New Yorker, but who has been here for a long time, do you remember a time?
Ebro Darden
No, I don't. But there's still a pothole that I'm dealing with every day.
Laura Styles
I mean. Yes.
Ebro Darden
Are you reporting? I didn't report it.
Peter Rosenberg
Got to report them.
Ebro Darden
96th street off the west side High. I would have thought someone would have seen this. Right. As you enter on 96th street to the west side Highway. But not. It is a problem. So it's great to see that.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, and then for the chat, we didn't get to it this week, but are the. Are they. Is this real or is this propaganda?
Ebro Darden
You mean, is it really getting done?
Peter Rosenberg
Is it. I've seen it get done. I've seen some things change. But is it affecting your life? I would love to see in the chat. If you live in the city, in
Laura Styles
New York City, I doubt it's propaganda. Do you know he's being. They look at him with a microscope.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Laura Styles
So they're waiting for any type of, like, you know, lie or, you know what I mean, to come at him. So I don't think I. I think they know that. So why would they put false information out?
Peter Rosenberg
Where are you at on his wife's old tweets?
Laura Styles
I don't know. You know, I was looking at some of them, and I was just like, ew. Yeah, I thought they were gross. I was like, girl. And then you.
Ebro Darden
Ah.
Laura Styles
I, I. To be honest with, the first thing that came to my mind is like, why didn't his team do a better job of, like, going, doing a background check and checking everything that was out there? Because, you know, when he started his campaign, they were already, you know, taking. Pulling him apart. So I just thought that's the first thing that popped into my mind.
Peter Rosenberg
What about you?
Ebro Darden
I'm sending. Sending a text to his team right now.
Peter Rosenberg
What are you saying? We're talking about his wife's tweet I
Ebro Darden
wrote, so how about just so. Because now we're into full.
Laura Styles
Like, I know I'm talking to somebody on his team, too, and I'm just like. They were like, are you okay with just not.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, he's doing potholes, guys.
Laura Styles
And I was just like. I mean, we would like an update.
Ebro Darden
I get it. No, I still see him out. He's still. He's making time to talk to, you know, other influencers and different people. He's got time. He's got time to chat with people.
Peter Rosenberg
We're not influential enough. And you're not from New York City.
Ebro Darden
Facts. And I. I feel that the Weiss stuff is. Yeah. How'd they not clean it up sooner? Her. Her comments on October 7th were not good at all. The N word thing was not good. It was from 2013. You make of that what you want A long time ago. None of it's great. None of it's great, but at the same time, she's not mayor, so I just want the guy to do a good job.
Laura Styles
Yeah. You know, and back to Ebro's point, I don't remember a time when anybody was like, potholes is an everyday problem. We're going to find a solution and we're gonna work on it and execute. I don't remember.
Ebro Darden
I remember Eric Adams saying he was gonna solve the rat problem.
Laura Styles
I mean, yeah, he had a red zar, remember?
Ebro Darden
But it did not happen.
Peter Rosenberg
Congratulations.
Laura Styles
You played out here, giving each other high fives.
Ebro Darden
Where's the trash? What happened to those, like, super, state of the art trash bins?
Peter Rosenberg
I see some of the trash bins.
Ebro Darden
They. Are they there?
Peter Rosenberg
Cuz I. I don't see them somewhere. I see him.
Ebro Darden
You see them in Brooklyn?
Laura Styles
I don't see. I haven't.
Peter Rosenberg
I see them from time to time when I'm driving around the city late. I see them.
Ebro Darden
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Out on people's.
Ebro Darden
Yeah. Near where I'm at. I've not seen them yet. Those trash cans that was supposed to Be such a thing. So congratulations. Maybe it was caught up in the $5.4 billion that was lost. You know what I mean? But I do. I would like to hear from Mom Donnie, though.
Laura Styles
Yes, we. I think we all would.
Peter Rosenberg
Freedom Friday. Friday. Freedom. Fat Friday. Family time.
Ebro Darden
There it is.
Peter Rosenberg
You guys want to get to the emails? Ebro Law, Rosenberg, Gmail, or do you want to go to family matters first? What are you guys feeling? What's the vibes? What are you feeling right now?
Ebro Darden
I'll do. I'll do whatever you guys want. I'm.
Laura Styles
I'm feeling Family Matters. Okay, let's do. Let's do some emails.
Peter Rosenberg
Emails it in.
Ebro Darden
Here we go.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Laura Styles
All right. Can I start?
Ebro Darden
Go.
Laura Styles
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
I just felt like I wanted something
Ebro Darden
coming up on a hot Friday.
Laura Styles
All right, guys, it's your guy, your AI guy, Dennis here. Glad to see you guys are all doing great. Congrats to Ibrah on his birthday and Rahsaan on his newborn. I was wondering if you could extend your condolences to my wife, Hannah. Last week, she lost her father due to old age. Her mother passed at age 50 several years ago. May they finally be at peace together.
Ebro Darden
Aw.
Laura Styles
Sending you guys a lot of love. He passed the moment she boarded the plane to see. See him.
Peter Rosenberg
Damn.
Laura Styles
Luckily, he knew in his last moments that his children planned on flying in for him all the way from Amsterdam to Jakarta. And, of course, you are the favorites. And Hannah especially loves the guru segments. I thought it might be lovely, a lovely gesture if you guys got to, you know, share some condolences and thank you all so much. A man, we're sending you so much love. That's a tough situation, man. Especially, you know, when you're, like, on your way to see somebody.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, that's. I'm sorry, Hannah. That's. That's just terrible. I listen, from what I hear, I haven't been through this. From what I hear, everyone's parents die. And from also what I hear, it's never great. Yeah, it seems to be varying degrees of not great.
Peter Rosenberg
It'll never be great. Not like America. It'll never be great.
Ebro Darden
It's never getting made great again.
Peter Rosenberg
It'll ever be made great to lose parents, it's just.
Laura Styles
But sending you love.
Peter Rosenberg
I will say to anybody out there who has been through it, like myself, who has lost both parents, you're gonna have to go through the process. There's no way around the process. But while you're going through the process, maybe you can remind yourself that it's natural.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And I hope that, I mean that's all you got. That's really all you got.
Ebro Darden
And I hope that helps.
Peter Rosenberg
That's all you got. I was just trying to get you something.
Ebro Darden
Well, no, it's that that's the natural order of things. Right. The unnatural order of a child dying we all know is the worst thing that could possibly happen. The natural order of a parent dying is not nearly as bad but still sucks ass. That's the amazing part. It's what's supposed to happen and still sucks. And I feel so grateful to have my parents and I think about you guys when I get to be with my parents that, that how lucky I am and also feel scared and watching them get older.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, and the reason I say like that's all you got is because when you're going through the process or you're thinking about all the good times or you think about the things that you wish you'd done or the, it'll. It's. I also liken it to like lifting weights where there's like, if you've ever lifted before, there's a weight that's like super, super heavy. And if you want to accomplish it, you're going to have to pick it up. Yeah, tough.
Ebro Darden
Over and over again.
Peter Rosenberg
And you have to pick it up again and again and again. So there's no, you can't really work around it. If you want to deal with that thing or accomplish that thing, go ahead.
Laura Styles
I will say, I don't know if this is. Oh yes, it's okay to bring it up. But I will say if you have older parents, have the conversations of how they want things to work out. Do you know what I mean? How they want to be buried. Have all the conversations. Because what you don't want to do is when it hits last minute trying to figure things out and you don't know if this is what they want. So it's a hard conversation to have. But do it, do it.
Peter Rosenberg
Quick email shout to Cap in Detroit. He said the set list. You know the organization of the show's taking shape nicely. Loves it. Laura's rundown low down Ebro's algo but I think we're missing a spot for Rosenberg. What about Rosenberg's ran into the day a couple days a week. He's always about hot about something. Lol. Keep the great content coming. Much love.
Ebro Darden
I'm down for it but it can't be forced so it couldn't be like scheduled. But I could tell you guys, yo, I got one and we could Theme it on social or whatever. But like I'm not gonna. Yeah, I'm not gonna have it every day.
Peter Rosenberg
And does Rosenberg really need a slot? Because he takes all the slots.
Ebro Darden
Thank you. I do the rundown. I do the lowdown.
Peter Rosenberg
You do it.
Ebro Darden
I do Ebro's algo.
Peter Rosenberg
I just go, yo, it's time for Ebro's algo. I throw it up and he's like, yo, here's how I feel about this.
Ebro Darden
That is, by the way, I don't really sit here and thinking I have a need for a segment. I feel pretty good. And you do the gurus and I read the. Well, I'm a great email reader.
Peter Rosenberg
Top notch listen.
Ebro Darden
So validate me. I can't wait to read emails. I'm one of the great email readers you've ever seen. You know, I read emails in the afternoon too. For Judge Legreco on Fraud Friday, I'm the email reader.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, and that's a good. I want you to know this. And I think about. These are things I think about as I get older in the game. What are the things that you could bring to a show just to have a gig read.
Ebro Darden
I could read.
Peter Rosenberg
It's time to read with Rosenberg. You'd be like 70 years old. They got a little intro and you read emails and stuff.
Ebro Darden
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Read the news with some like, you know, with academics. When he takes over everything.
Laura Styles
Oh, okay.
Ebro Darden
I'll be his reader.
Peter Rosenberg
You'll be his reader.
Ebro Darden
Act. That'll be cool if you could look out, bro, that'll be nice.
Peter Rosenberg
Rosenberg, what you got today? Okay,
Ebro Darden
let's read Katie's Katie. Last week I heard Ebro mention the term race obsessed. And it really got me thinking. I'm a white woman in a predominantly white college town in the Midwest. But now what you're picturing, I promise. But not what you're picturing, I promise. I grew up in one of the few black and brown neighborhoods in my city. All of my friends have been black women my entire life. I've always had an immense amount of love and appreciation of black culture, people and community. My homegirls are all single black women. We're all attractive, intelligent, goal driven women. Being in a college town, interracial relationships are very common. My girls constantly bring up how disappointed they feel when they see black men and white women together. I have three biracial black children and have mostly dated black men. I've been single for almost 10 years now. I don't have a physical preference, just a proximity. Due to my social circles, there's a scarcity of good black men for my girls to date. Not only that, but ish is just hard enough for black women in America, let alone our community. Perhaps I am also internalizing some of the assumptions and judgments I hear from my girls in the group chat. I thought it would be good to be more open to connecting with white guys. The problem is it can't be any old white dude. He's got to be like Rosenberg or Seth Rogen. So my question for the gurus is, am I gentrifying the dating market or are we race obsessed? How do I intentionally meet more white guys with good politics and great music taste? Or am I overthinking all of this? And is love truly just love? Signed? Play that funky music, white boy.
Peter Rosenberg
Katie, that's funny.
Ebro Darden
Well, it sounds like your friends. It sounds like on some level I was thinking she might be bothered by the fact that her black friends are all saying how annoyed they are to see all the interracial relationships. She has three interracial children, so she is the white half of the interracial relationship.
Peter Rosenberg
She's thinking they're talking about her. And they may say, no, not you, Katie. But they are. Katie, I gotta let you know, they're talking about you. But honestly, it's also. We're all race obsessed. We live in a race obsessed society. Everything's about race and literally everything. And it's not our fault. Matter of fact, I often tell people, should talk to your forefathers. He's the people on the COVID of your money. Yeah, they set this up. We're just operating in it. And it's not up to the, the, the. The marginalized individuals to figure this out. They're just the victims of it. It's really up to the individuals who dominate the, you know, dominate everything, which tends to be white. But in your scenario, I think you need to just find somebody you like.
Laura Styles
Yeah, that's what it sounds like.
Peter Rosenberg
Because it is. It's hard for everyone. I hear literally everyone from all walks of life talk about how hard it is to find someone.
Laura Styles
A good human. Just a good human.
Ebro Darden
Yeah. And for your kids too. Like, you don't need to think about. I don't think you need to think about what race of person they end up finding. They just need find good people. Yeah, that's what I thought she said because she has. She said. Oh, oh. Maybe I misunderstood it because she said there's a scarcity of good black men for my girls to date.
Peter Rosenberg
She meant her son.
Laura Styles
Girlfriend. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
Ebro Darden
Either way, the point is life's too short, bro. As much as we can have all these theories on what should be. I don't think any one of us at least would begrudge anyone who just met someone they liked.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Ebro Darden
Like, have you ever had a moment when you spent time thinking about, From a. From the, from the viewpoint of judgment, the race of your friends. Partners.
Peter Rosenberg
Only if one of the individuals is disrespectful to the cultural.
Ebro Darden
But again, that has things of. But that has to do with disrespect. Not. Has to do with their.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, only if it's like, oh, you're. You only like him because he feels some like, fantasy. You don't really.
Ebro Darden
But I can tell that you're not
Peter Rosenberg
really on board family. You don't like nothing about who he really is as a person. You just kind of like the idea
Ebro Darden
that that would have not been a thought that you had when they. When they met. You would have been a thought you had when you're like, oh, wow, you're whack. I didn't know that.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And I gotta say, I've seen those scenarios. It usually heats up because of the children. It usually heats up when one or, you know, other side of the parent is like, no, I culturally want my children more engaged in this over here with my family than. And I don't really like your cultural stuff.
Ebro Darden
Right. We don't like how you guys like to dance and have fun at all your parties. We like to sit around and watch television. Small talk and small talk. Or my family's case, not have fun and dance, but have deep political talk constantly. The entire.
Peter Rosenberg
Sounds like a great Friday night.
Ebro Darden
Sounds like. As the British guy standing next to my dad at night. Fernando said, it's like the bloody BBC.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, what?
Ebro Darden
I've told you the story.
Laura Styles
Meanwhile, when I picture this happening in his living room, I picture my family just dancing at all hours of the night, not giving a damn about their children.
Ebro Darden
I told you, my dad was at. My parents were at Nando's in London and my parents were just talking, blah, blah. And at some point a stranger interrupted. It was like, you're like the bloody BBC. Because my dad was just going, so funny. My mom.
Laura Styles
Oh, my God.
Peter Rosenberg
I also want to know. I got a shout out to Omar, bro. Omar says, e Cola. My Rosenberg. Sorry, in Hawaiian. Omar, you sent six emails. My guy.
Ebro Darden
He said it. Oh, no, Griff said that.
Peter Rosenberg
Griff said that. He's talking to me about Jack Harlo. Please stop. He's 30 he's young. He knows better EO something I don't know.
Ebro Darden
And then he's apologizing to me and go. He's going on and on.
Peter Rosenberg
Jack had substantive relationship. Omar, relax. Appreciate the love. Six emails is a little
Ebro Darden
Griff said. He also said it would help if him and I had a phone call. We don't need to have a phone
Laura Styles
call about this phone call.
Ebro Darden
What?
Peter Rosenberg
All right, Omar, in all seriousness, you might need to meet. You might need to get therapy. Better help betterhelp.com and they don't even advertise up here because you can talk to somebody about all of this.
Laura Styles
Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot, Omar.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what I mean.
Laura Styles
You know, a paragraph is fine.
Ebro Darden
Aren't we voice note time? We.
Peter Rosenberg
It is voice note time. Let's see what we got here. We got what about Isaac?
Laura Styles

Isaac Wayne
Yo ELR family, what's good? It's Isaac Wayne checking in from California.
Peter Rosenberg
What music is that playing Friday?
Isaac Wayne
Yo, I just want to go ahead and make this real quick. The age old question that usually comes up on the show, is landline still available for people or do you got to use that Internet phone. Well, for somebody who's in the telecom industry, or used to be, straight answer is, yes, you actually can. Just depends on your infrastructure. I think Rosenberg touched on that. But, yeah, if it's your. If it's in your infrastructure and you're in your community, if you're premium needs older, more than likely you do have it at your home or out just outside in those little pedal stools. And a tip for y', all, just because we are in war. And I don't know if anybody's prepping,
Peter Rosenberg
but why is he talking over instrumental? Am I bugging or is he talking over instrumental?
Isaac Wayne
Like a big old 80s phone, cell phone has clips on the end of it you can eventually find on the wires. You clip on the wires, you find a dial tone. That's important because if there is any power out, there's a central office again, to that infrastructure somewhere in your neighborhood. You probably never see it, but that has the dial tone and will have power because it has battery backup for some time, even after we have no power. So y' all be safe. And I hope y' all just never going have to catch that butt. You feel me?
Peter Rosenberg
Congratulations. You played well.
Laura Styles
He had his own production and everything.
Peter Rosenberg
I knew this guy had a whole beat going on in the background. Production. Isaac. What? What? What was he talking about?
Laura Styles
Yeah, but I'm mad that you talked over.
Ebro Darden
Talked over the best part about the survival phone.
Laura Styles
What are you talking. You're Bunker Ebro.
Ebro Darden
Why would you not want to know that?
Peter Rosenberg
He said.
Ebro Darden
He said there are phones that have, like, clips and you can clip them to the phone.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Wow.
Laura Styles
I was like, really? I'mma Google that.
Ebro Darden
I kind of need this stuff, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
You're feeling like you need to know what's going on?
Ebro Darden
Yeah, bro. I don't know, man. So I'm in watching Paradise. I'm like, is this the time for me to be watching this show?
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, is there a new season?
Laura Styles
Yes, fam. Where have you been?
Ebro Darden
Whoa.
Peter Rosenberg
Hit me with the button, yo. Bang. Congratulations. What is what? How long does it wait?
Ebro Darden
Episode seven aired this week.
Peter Rosenberg
Say what?
Laura Styles
I can't wait. When is the next.
Ebro Darden
I gotta tell you, I know this is this.
Peter Rosenberg
Congratulations.
Ebro Darden
This is for Family Friday. Ebro lives so deep in his own algo. When we talk about it, he is the example of his reality is not reality. No, I swear, Laura, he didn't know anything about the Bachelorette thing. I don't watch the Bachelorette.
Peter Rosenberg
Saw the headline. I just.
Ebro Darden
That was everywhere.
Peter Rosenberg
I didn't read it. I didn't read it.
Ebro Darden
Sterling K. Brown. I've been trying to get Griff. We've been trying to get a hold of. He's doing everything.
Peter Rosenberg
He is. I haven't seen.
Laura Styles
Did you see him in a spirit tunnel?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Ebro Darden
He's effing outside, bro. For what, Laura? A month. It's been a month straight.
Peter Rosenberg
Haven't seen everything to do everything but this show.
Ebro Darden
Sterling K. Brownette. We. And we watch you on the show, Sterling. He's done everything, promoted.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you guys sending out our metric? You know these people only come if we send them metrics. Do we have a new one sheet.
Ebro Darden
I don't know if our metrics are enough though to be like that.
Peter Rosenberg
But you got to send it.
Laura Styles
Producer Griff's sister went to school with him.
Peter Rosenberg
So I'm like, yo, company, you got to send.
Ebro Darden
No, no, we found. I found the public. You think I didn't find the public,
Peter Rosenberg
but did you send a metrics?
Ebro Darden
I don't know if we sent metrics, but.
Peter Rosenberg
Because remember when we were on the. On the, on the. The big logo. When we had the big logo on the plantation, they would just come up. Because it was the plantation.
Ebro Darden
Correct.
Peter Rosenberg
And they wouldn't know nothing about us. They may have seen it depends though.
Ebro Darden
But I think Sterling, I think Sterling knows what time it is. I do.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I have faith. I have faith.
Ebro Darden
I faith.
Peter Rosenberg
But you guys haven't secured it. So as as of now.
Ebro Darden
Well, I mean at least we knew it existed. 7. Your man didn't know.
Peter Rosenberg
No man. But I'm happy.
Ebro Darden
It's good. Season two.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I'm happy because that means I have seven episodes or something and that, that, that's hard to find.
Ebro Darden
Are you watching or no? Laura, do you watch or no?
Laura Styles
Yes.
Ebro Darden
You're up right now.
Laura Styles
I'm in. Yes.
Ebro Darden
I have to say though, I really prefer the EP that are about Xavier and his wife more than I prefer about Katie and like the inner workings of the bubble. I care more about Sterling and his wife than I care about the.
Laura Styles
Yeah, I do too.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but I think that's. You guys. I gotta watch. Let me watch.
Ebro Darden
You think it's a this is us connection?
Peter Rosenberg
I think you guys are holding on.
Ebro Darden
Well. No, I'll also say this. The show's very good. Sterling K. Brown is kind of head and shoulders in my opinion, talent wise on a different level than everyone else. Like they're good people on the show. But he's. Sterling K. Brown is.
Peter Rosenberg
He's the bee's niece. No, he's special Yo, Denise.
Laura Styles
Oh, that was gonna go there.
Ebro Darden
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead, Laura.
Laura Styles
Okay. Okay. Good, Denise. Proof that guru's worth.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the one.
Laura Styles
Salute to the El army generals. This email is a Freedom Friday thank you. And a little family matters. I wrote in when y' all were at the plantation, and it was Ebro and Shawnee's reminder that helped me. Ebro is a guru.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Laura Styles
For those of us that need tough love. And no, not the garbage guru. A real deal. My current life situation has pulled inspiration, motivation from you three. And I had to say thank you. I'm fighting the masters and making my exit off a major plantation. A government employee who is in the process of medical retirement due to a serious medical condition that I want to bring awareness to because it can happen to anyone. I develop Kata Aquina syndrome and have been partially paralyzed for over a year. Oh, my God. Guys, Someone close to us. Okay, I'll tell you afterwards. I am still pushing for a full recovery. I can walk with a cane and walker so far. Oh, congratulations on the progress. I have been at it for almost a year now post surgery, and I got plans. My former supervisor, sadly, another woman of the diaspora made it impossible for me during my FMLA attempts to return to work with accommodations and other situations I won't get into. She wanted to take me out, y'.
Peter Rosenberg
All.
Laura Styles
Point blank, period.
Peter Rosenberg
Damn.
Laura Styles
It's caused me so much added stress on top of the medical situation. But I'm from around the way y', all, so punks jump off to get beat down.
Ebro Darden
Wow. Strong.
Laura Styles
I got mentally ready and started fighting back, filing my EEO and retirement before attempts to remove me with nothing. I saw how y' all are navigating your situation on the air over at the place and we shall not name and more importantly, your immediate comeback and future plans. I want to thank you for your transparency. And it reminded me, don't stop. Pause for grief, but don't dwell. Always, she said. Although there's always blood in the water, ELRV is ready to take over and the people are with you. Thank you for continuing to give us conversations on the things that matter and in the way that it should be done. With discernment and respect. Respecting the opinions of others. You teach the youth. Shout out to all the parents who expose their kids to this. And you are helping the Fox raise. Future Fox. It's a family affair. My children have grown up with the show. 23, 18, and 14. My oldest called me with joy when you guys brought back her favorite button. That's racist. And Many times our evening family conversations come from topics on the show. The plantation.
Ebro Darden
Maybe that's racist.
Laura Styles
The historical institution where it started, but you are the heartbeat and the pulse of the people. Thank you for keeping it going. This is an amazing email, yo.
Ebro Darden
I'm so sorry that you're dealing with that and so impressed that you're just like. She's just. She's just battling. She ain't. She ain't messing around.
Laura Styles
But I love her outlook on life, though.
Ebro Darden
That's a push.
Peter Rosenberg
And if there are young people watching this, and even, you know, even if you're not, you know, as. As old as I am, or maybe this emailer who has a 23, 18, and 14. There were always. We used to. And I don't know if you guys felt this way growing up where your parents were like, yo, get a good job, get your. Go to college, get a good job, buy a home, retire. That was kind of like air quotes. The American dream, right?
Laura Styles
That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
That is not necessarily the order it is. College ain't necessarily gonna get you a good job, especially if you don't get a degree or something, you know, certification in something that's a growing business that can get you an actual retirement. And so you have to actually be more knowledgeable about investment property ownership, you know, making sure that your investments lead to your retirement than I think any other generation.
Laura Styles
Yeah, I would think. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, it's not like it used to be. Like, look, you work for the big company, they're going to give you the pension if you join the union, and you're kind of good. I remember I was looking at the pension for the union we was in. I was like, I can't live on this.
Ebro Darden
Right? Nope, it's not great.
Peter Rosenberg
It was like $150 a month.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Literally, it was something crazy. After I retired, Craig, luckily I started my own retirement because I had a friend who was in finance, and he encouraged me to get involved, and I put up my. Start my own retirement when I was 28 that I've just been paying into all these years that'll start paying me back money when I'm 60. Yeah, bro, you gotta really be on it, bro. And I wasn't putting a lot of money. It was like 150, you know, if I could raise it, maybe I was doing good. I was putting 400.
Ebro Darden
But adds up.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, it adds up because they're taking that money and investing it, and you're making 5% on it every year.
Ebro Darden
Right. And then you stop thinking about It. You're just putting it in, and then it's just.
Laura Styles
It's compound interest for your kids, like starting your 529. Like, I've been putting a lot into that 529 I logged in the other day. I was like, oh, wow. Yeah, my kid's gonna be okay. You know what I mean?
Peter Rosenberg
So I. Other way. Other than a 529. Where you got. What's going on over here? Griff's distracted me. What happened?
Ebro Darden
No, no, it's. It's. It's not useful information.
Peter Rosenberg
Got it.
Laura Styles
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Other than a 529. I actually talked to my guy, was like, if my kid decides they don't want to go to college, what happens to this money?
Ebro Darden
What does happen?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you can pull your money out, you're going to get a tax hit, but you can't use the money that you made on the investment. He explained in my. The way I understood it, so that means I invested in something that if it's not used the way they tell me to use it, I can't use the. The. The gains.
Ebro Darden
That's correct.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't like that.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So why don't I put the money in something where I could do both.
Ebro Darden
Yeah. Do anything you want.
Laura Styles
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So I did a money market account instead. I'm just putting money in that.
Laura Styles
But I believe it's 529. You could also go, like, as long as it's under the education. Umbrell asked about trade schools and stuff.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. That you could do that. That's.
Laura Styles
I don't care about that. Ken's getting an education. That's. You're doing that.
Ebro Darden
Right. Although, you know, these days, my feelings on education.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, so the. That's why when Issa was up here, remember, she was talking about the corporate job that comes from a convo I've been having for her for years, where I'm just basically like, yo, I want you to be happy first and foremost. But you got to know to survive, you have to have some sort of trade, something you can do that can always make you money, that you have a certification for, whatever that is. Find the thing. Nursing, you know, cosmetics, whatever it is. But you also in. And in that process, it's just. Yo. But you might actually also want a corporate job that you could do that if that's where you're. Makes you happy, where you get to go at nine. Because she sees me working all hours, and it's like, yeah, because my job is not your regular 9 to 5. Some people wouldn't be able to do what I'm doing. Right. They want to show up at 9, they want to leave at 5, and they don't want anyone calling them full stop when you're after business. Yeah, like I don't want to talk to you on Saturday. Like, she sees me taking calls on Saturday morning at 9am or sitting up at 10pm because I'm talking to my. In Japan or something. Like, she don't someone. She may not want that. So it's me talking. You got to talk to your kids about all of this.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, yeah.
Laura Styles
Wait, you guys. So this is what I. I don't know if you guys saw, you know, our friend deja vu.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Laura Styles
At wbls, guys. She woke up and half of her face is paranoid.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Laura Styles
Yes.
Ebro Darden
Bell's palsy.
Laura Styles
I. It's something else. But she's been wearing a mask. And the reason I'm talking about it, because she put it on social media. So she's been talking about it, but it just. Just to remind you how common it is. Whoa, guys, I know two other people who just woke up and half of their face was paralyzed. They had Bell's palsy. My two other friends.
Peter Rosenberg
And did it go stress now? Bell's palsy could go away though.
Laura Styles
Yes. But one of my friends, like you could. Could still tell like on the certain areas of his jaw that didn't. He's like 85 back.
Ebro Darden
Okay.
Laura Styles
Yeah. My other friend recovered pretty good, but.
Jazz
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
And so what's going on with deja vu?
Laura Styles
Facial paralysis. She's taking it day by day, and
Ebro Darden
all you can do is take it. Can you eat when that happens?
Laura Styles
I mean, yeah. I mean, it depends on how bad it is, but I think it's.
Peter Rosenberg
It's happening on the other side of your. Your mouth. Nah, man. Yo, sending love and light to our friend, man, that's terrible, Deja. But you'll get through it, man. You will get through it. And by the way, stress is toxic for your body. Super toxic. Stay on top of all your health, you know, stay active, cardio, get all the things. Do as much as you can. Change your food. Listen, because some of us are dealing with super stress and you don't even know it because your neighborhood was stressful, your family was stressful. Everything you know is stress.
Ebro Darden
So you don't even know. Right. Being completely stressed is normal. And you don't know that.
Laura Styles
So many people have that reality. You know, when I, I had to drive back to where Ricardo is from in the Bronx, I Physically could see him change. He tightens up, and he's always like. And he's like, I got to get out of here. He's like, I just don't feel good being here.
Peter Rosenberg
Damn.
Laura Styles
And he's like, I never realized how toxic my environment was until I left.
Ebro Darden
That's so crazy. Think about, like, how literally reverse that is of my life. If I go home to visit my parents, I may be bored, but when I pull into their neighborhood, it's literally
Peter Rosenberg
like, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, twee.
Ebro Darden
Quiet sky. Nothing to the opposite of something. I could fall asleep outside on the lawn, wouldn't think about it.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's why I keep telling you, not from New York. That right there, they sense that on. You go home. You go home. Relax.
Ebro Darden
I thought it would be a statement about, like, privilege. Well, like, that's what I was trying to get to is the difference.
Peter Rosenberg
You ain't from New York. You ain't stressed enough.
Ebro Darden
But what if you're not on edge enough? Wait, but what if that neighborhood was in, like, Westchester still?
Peter Rosenberg
They would still might be, like, Queens. No, no, no.
Ebro Darden
Or like, somewhere in Queens, Long Island.
Peter Rosenberg
Might get you a pass. I'll give you a pass. I'll give you a pass. But that's like Flex going at P Rock from Mount Vernon. Less stressful up there. Yo, we got another voice note. Let's go. We got Steve. Hey, ELR show. This is Steve in the Bronx, bx. I want to give Rosenberg his first flowers.
Ebro Darden
Yes, I love flowers.
Peter Rosenberg
Being an Al, not for being a hip hop purist.
Ebro Darden
Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
But for those damn impressions. Always cracking me up. So my top three are Russian Rosenberg. Oh, yeah. Russian Rosenberg. And Racist. Not racist. Redneck Rosenberg. Redneck Rosenberg.
Ebro Darden
Blurry line.
Peter Rosenberg
And then finally, real, real rap Rosenberg. Rosenberg. You know when he's like, you ain't real. Those are my favorite Rosenberg impressions. So keep up the good work, bro. And hold your head, man. These people are haters, man. And it's only because you're white. Because that whole thing about not being from New York. Cause Charlemagne is not from New York. Yeah, exactly. They don't give him grief. But he also got bopped, and you didn't get bopped, so always keep that in mind, man. All right. I love the show, guys. Keep it up. Wait, he said real Rap Rosenberg, Redneck Rosenberg, and Russian Rosenberg. That was it.
Ebro Darden
Russian Rosenberg is Trump's wife. Is.
Peter Rosenberg
Is really, you know. But it was also the Nets owner before.
Ebro Darden
Oh, Mikhail Prokrov.
Peter Rosenberg
Exactly.
Ebro Darden
I forgot about that.
Laura Styles
Yo, and he was the.
Peter Rosenberg
He was the owner of the New Jersey Nets.
Ebro Darden
New Jersey Nietzsche. Yeah. I forgot about the Brooklyn Niats. I totally forgot about that.
Laura Styles
Oh, my God. What about Mexican sports reporter Rosie Brooks, my friend?
Ebro Darden
I think that was private. I think that was just me and you. I think that was behind the scenes.
Peter Rosenberg
Yo, Laura trying to get you.
Ebro Darden
I was wearing an actual wig and just going up to pop. Laura.
Laura Styles
Ebro. Ebro. When he crossed the phone.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't believe Laura keeps going. She's still going.
Laura Styles
The photo of him in the wig pops up on my phone wearing a
Ebro Darden
Lakers shirt with the hat. And I'm like, yo, Mahina. Laura Styles.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, yo, listen.
Isaac Wayne
Love it.
Laura Styles
They love it.
Ebro Darden
Yo, it's mahi.
Laura Styles
So funny.
Peter Rosenberg
No, they might give you a pass. I. I can't. I can't help.
Ebro Darden
But you can't coach. You can't. Laura.
Peter Rosenberg
Laura's Guatemalan.
Ebro Darden
She ain't from New York, and she
Peter Rosenberg
don't even get along with Juanito right now. We're done. You're done. You're done. Yo, let's get to Family Matters.
Laura Styles
Okay,
Peter Rosenberg
You're done. Hey, same guy from the ducktale.
Ebro Darden
I saw. I saw a skit on the algo using this song this week. They took this theme song and applied it to, like, 1999 raw. So it was this song with the characters like Vince McMahon and Stone Cold Trish Stratus.
Isaac Wayne
It was awesome.
Ebro Darden
It was really good.
Laura Styles
That's cool.
Peter Rosenberg
So real love bursting out of every scene. It's the bigger love of the family. Who wants to go first? Who's got Family Matters? You'd love to share?
Laura Styles
Okay, I'll go. So you. I don't know if. Yeah, the audience knows that. When I had Kenza, I lost a fight with my partner. I wanted to pierce her ears as soon as she came out. I wanted to do it early because that's what my family does. Like, two months. Bow. And Ricardo was like, no, it has to be her choice. We're mutilating her. And I was like, oh, my God.
Ebro Darden
Why you gotta go? Hit him with a button. We love you, Rick.
Laura Styles
But, you know, I was like, fine, we'll wait. And I was like, how long are we gonna wait? He's like, until she wants to do it. So I'm like, damn it. Then it's gonna hurt. And I was like, whatever. So the time has come. Kenza was like, mommy, I'm ready. I wanna get my ears pierced. So I asked her on a Thursday no, she brought it to me on a Thursday. I said, are you sure? Okay, let's see how you feel tomorrow. Friday, she woke up. I'm ready. Can we go today? I said, no, I can't. We have to make an appointment. She was like, tomorrow? I was like, all right, we'll do it tomorrow. And we finally did it, guys.
Isaac Wayne
Wow.
Laura Styles
Check this out. And she was so proud.
Ebro Darden
This isn't gonna make me dead, is it? Will we see any dead people there?
Laura Styles
No, she. Is there going to be blood coming out?
Ebro Darden
Will there be a shark that's on fire and bleeding and dead?
Laura Styles
So watch this and start getting her ears. You going to look at me?
Peter Rosenberg
One, two, three.
Ebro Darden
Wait. They did them the same time.
Peter Rosenberg
That was cool. You did it. She ain't cry. They did.
Ebro Darden
Same time. Wow. Now.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead, Kenza.
Ebro Darden
Now flip the script. How about this? That's Saturday. Sunday morning, we went to a. Our friend Megan and Josh. Their. Their baby atlas had his first birthday. We went to Addie's birthday, and on the way home, Natalie's like, the place that I want to get Maya's ears pierced on the east side. Let's just drive by. And I'm like. I said to her, I'm like, nat, you know, you keep talking about it, you're gonna be annoyed because she keeps thinking it's too late, that she's getting to an age now where now she'll be fussy. And I said, you're gonna keep. We should just. If you want to do it, do it. So she said, let's just drive by and see. We didn't know anything about what's happening with Laura. We drove by, no line at all. We popped in, and here is the video of me holding Maya during the ear piercing.
Laura Styles
Perfect. Ran the dot.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't believe you guys hurt my niece like that.
Ebro Darden
Look how serious my face is.
Laura Styles
I know. Did you want to cry?
Ebro Darden
I know it hurts.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, man. Y' all are torturing. It's mutilation.
Laura Styles
Perfect, Rick.
Peter Rosenberg
You're right on the dot.
Ebro Darden
No, we're all done now.
Laura Styles
You told. You did it, mama.
Ebro Darden
You did it now. By the time Natalie comes and picks her up, it basically stops.
Peter Rosenberg
This is the end. I can't believe you guys tortured her like this.
Laura Styles
Her giant tears slowly fall.
Peter Rosenberg
Ricardo's right. It's mutilation. Literally within four.
Ebro Darden
No, within 10. Swear. Swear to you within 10 seconds that we handed her a little spray bottle.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
And she was like, never thought about
Laura Styles
it again, but it is lastly when you did it.
Peter Rosenberg
Same, same.
Laura Styles
Okay, okay.
Ebro Darden
It is. It does suck, though. They can, like, issu was the same even though she. Even though she'll cry like that about whatever. Baby can cry like that because you took a toy away from them.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
It's different when, you know you're choosing to do something physical to them.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Ebro Darden
You know what I'm saying? It does. I'm not gonna lie. Like, when I play that video back, her cry, it hits you. Even though, like. Like I said, I could take away her Ms. Rachel Tony and it would make her cry that much. But it's the. It's the principle of it.
Peter Rosenberg
So I got two for Family Matters today. The first one comes from Jazz.
Laura Styles
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
This is what's going on in my house right now.
Laura Styles
All right, let's see.
Jazz
Good morning, elr. So sometimes I come up with these segment ideas, and when I try to run them past Ebro, he doesn't show favoritism. He's like, just send me a voice note. So here it is. What if for Family Fridays, there was a segment called do for Love. And the intro music would be Bobby Caldwell do for Love, of course, which pulls in that whitish window they vibe. Right? Then people tell the crazy thing they did for love. And then we find out at the end if they're actually still together or if they broke up. And we hit them with a congratulations. If they made it. But we hit them with a congratulations. You played yourself. If they did not make it after doing all that Crazy is for love. Right. So I think that could be fun for Family Fridays. The other segment would be called your mom is in my business. And the intro would be that.
Ebro Darden
Pause it for a second, please. Yo, let's just. Let's just, like, be clear about how old school a hip hop head eo is with that. She just said the other statement's called your Mom's in my business is literally a K solo song from 1990.
Laura Styles
I love it.
Ebro Darden
That song is 36 years old. All right, go ahead. Sorry. Let me see.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think I paused it.
Jazz
Right, right. And people tell the crazy thing they did for love.
Ebro Darden
Okay. That's the end of do for Love, by the way. Where did that come from?
Jazz
But we hit him with a congratulations.
Ebro Darden
Why did she think of if they
Jazz
did not make it at the door?
Laura Styles
Yo, Ricardo comes up with stuff I'm sure Natalie does, too.
Jazz
Family Fridays. The other segment would be called your mom is in my business. And the intro would be that classic hip hop song that we all love.
Laura Styles
Right.
Jazz
By K. So I don't think Anyone would mind hearing that, right? On Fridays. And then we go into stories. People calling in or writing in and telling about their mother in law who just won't stay out their business. We know there's a lot of crazy mother in laws out there, and I think we would enjoy hearing those stories. So let me know your thoughts. Thanks for listening.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me know your thoughts.
Laura Styles
I love it.
Peter Rosenberg
We got homework.
Ebro Darden
Okay. Okay. A couple things.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Ebro Darden
One, both are great ideas. Two, the your mom's in my business. While it was never a segment, I feel like we did something whenever gurus were like that. Shawnee would play your mom's in my business every time. Like, so that was. She may not have even realized that that happened before, but like, we were always playing it. Or I'd be like, no, you got to play your mom's in my business.
Peter Rosenberg
So.
Ebro Darden
But conceptually, it's a lot of fun because guess what? Mother in laws do in the business. Me in the business.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
The first one, the do for love is interesting.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, I can't believe you guys are actually talking through this. I didn't think this was gonna go this way.
Laura Styles
It's a good idea.
Ebro Darden
It's more like. It's more like.
Peter Rosenberg
Cause I was ready to get up here.
Ebro Darden
Like, the do for Love for me.
Peter Rosenberg
Congratulations. You played yourself.
Ebro Darden
Both. Both. Here's the only issue I have. Both of them actually fit kind of more inside the gurus as sub gurus than their own segment, if you know what I'm saying. Because.
Peter Rosenberg
Because that's a time for a Do for love guru.
Laura Styles
Right?
Ebro Darden
Like, I want to tell y' all my story.
Peter Rosenberg
It's time for your mom's in my business.
Ebro Darden
Moms in our business right now. Like, it just kind of feel. They feel guru.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not its own thing. Could be.
Ebro Darden
Could not. We also can't play the songs, babe.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm a bad guy. Because I was ready. Look, if Natalie or Ricardo came with an idea, I'd have been like, out of here. Yeah.
Ebro Darden
I thought those were great ideas.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I like it.
Laura Styles
I like it. I like do for Love a lot.
Ebro Darden
Yeah. And I just. I like it. I like it. I like that she's like. And it has gives the vibes of Whitish Wednesday.
Peter Rosenberg
Because she'll be talking to me and
Ebro Darden
I'll be like, babe, I'm not thinking about the show right now. I just want to go to bed.
Peter Rosenberg
It's 8 o' clock at night.
Ebro Darden
Right.
Laura Styles
But she hasn't seen you all day. She wants to talk about it.
Peter Rosenberg
I know. And that's why I was like, you know what? Send a voice note.
Laura Styles
Yeah. He's so foul.
Ebro Darden
He's like. Ebro's like, I don't have time to talk to you about this. I need to send the group eight emails for my. For Ebro's Algo right now.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right.
Ebro Darden
Okay. I'm busy doing other. Other things for the show.
Laura Styles
I'm trying to see if netting I was alive.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, I know. And also seven fingers.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, yeah, exactly. And also if I came in with those ideas, it would have been.
Laura Styles
No, I don't think so. Do for Love is a really good one.
Ebro Darden
That's. That's a fun one.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Liars. You guys are liars.
Ebro Darden
Why?
Peter Rosenberg
Because coming from her, I'm watching you guys be like, it's so nice. We love jazz because, yo, Griffin, my lion, yo. He knows it too. If I'd have came in like, yo, guys, let's start a new segment called do for Love. Roseburg, shut your ass up. Oh, you all in love now with your wife? Do you want to cheat about everybody? Love. Yeah, right.
Ebro Darden
I definitely wouldn't say it like that. Ebro would say that if we had come in with that idea. Listen, as I said. But hold on, I'm keeping it real. It's a good idea. I don't know if they warrant their own segments or they just fit within segments we already have. But they're good. Those are good little bits.
Laura Styles
They're good, too. So, okay, for the audience, if. If you feel like, wow, like, this is really talking to me, like, write us. Write us to the.
Peter Rosenberg
In.
Laura Styles
In the gurus.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, either one of those.
Laura Styles
And just title is do for Love.
Peter Rosenberg
The only problem is I don't know if we could play.
Ebro Darden
We can't. That's the problem. We can't really play them.
Peter Rosenberg
We can't play Bob. Well, right.
Laura Styles
No, no, we won't play the songs.
Peter Rosenberg
We definitely can't play Pot.
Ebro Darden
No Interscope. Stop that stamp. And by the way, it may be my favorite Tupac Zone. I stopped that, too. Yo, Bobby Caldwell. For the record, he. He should not be as, like, niche a name as he is, because he's kind of a niche name. His big records are Big Bro in the Remind me.
Peter Rosenberg
Even in the yacht rock doc.
Ebro Darden
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
They didn't big up Bobby Caldwell.
Ebro Darden
No, not really.
Laura Styles
Was he in it at all?
Peter Rosenberg
He's not considered. But he is, though.
Ebro Darden
But he's the ult. I mean, that's why yacht rock is stupid as a phrase. He's not yacht rock. He's Blue Eyed soul. That's where it gets.
Peter Rosenberg
But Michael McDonald was also considered blue eyed soul and got the yacht rock.
Ebro Darden
Yacht rock thing. But then because. But Bobby's stuff was more straight ahead. He's just soulful music. Whereas I think Michael McDonald played in the like happier soft rock. Same with hall of Notes.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
Like Sarah's smile is super soulful. But then kisses on my list. And, and, and the other one that sounds like the DuckTales theme. Like some of the bit super big ones. Man Eater are like, that's yacht rock. That's why on our show the main character Sam Hart, he. He will fight.
Peter Rosenberg
What show is this?
Ebro Darden
Oh, it's one we're talking about earlier. Double or nothing's. That gonna be it? We don't know but. Well, if it's anywhere, it's Hulu.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go.
Ebro Darden
We don't know if it'll be there, but that's what we're hoping for.
Peter Rosenberg
You better act like it's called watching it.
Ebro Darden
No, I believe it'll be there.
Peter Rosenberg
Sam, say thanks to Hulu for giving you a shot.
Ebro Darden
I already thanked them, didn't I put up a whole post last week. You know, that was a really funny experience, by the way, the posting about the show. Because, you know, I don't, I don't generally like to do that, the like pat on my back post. But after Deadline put out their story after two years of work and all it did was throw in a little Mark Ronson and Peter Rosenberg. And I was like that. I came up with this whole thing. You gave me one. No one even cares. And I realized, and this is about all of us, honestly, all three of us are in this category because we're so annoyed about the concept of social media being. I use it to pat myself on the back and show how cool I am. And because the three of us kind of, I think, live by the idea of the coolest things we do, we don't post. It's like, nah, this is real life cool. I don't need to post it. Yeah, it's also a fail though, because again, they're scoring a different system. That whole social media thing, the amount of congrats I got, I'm like, y' all don't even know really how legit what I posted was. Like, all I did was post a source article. It wasn't even the Deadline article. The Deadline article was the third thing. The source article was a little blurb. But I figured if I don't put this up now, if this show never Gets made. I'll never get credit from anywhere that I created a show that was sold to Hulu for development with Mark Ron.
Peter Rosenberg
I always feel like if I share with people the things I do or.
Ebro Darden
You look like an a hole.
Peter Rosenberg
I look like I'm poo pooing on everybody's life. My life's amazing.
Ebro Darden
Well, maybe if you don't go into it with that as the sound of
Peter Rosenberg
it, but that's what it would be. That's when I post about something.
Ebro Darden
No, but you could do it with a caption that's rather. Y' all dickheads out here losing. Look at me. Sorry I'm not in my basement. I was too busy hanging out with. But if you were just like, hey, had an amazing opportunity this weekend.
Peter Rosenberg
But you don't really do that. I don't. Well, but that's because some. Also, some of the things are just like, not.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, it would be weird.
Peter Rosenberg
It just feel. It doesn't feel.
Ebro Darden
I agree. The coolest moments, I'm always like, if I was a douche, I'd take a picture right now. But I'm not, so I can't. Yeah, but sometimes I thought this was one where I'm like, push yourself. Put up the post telling them what you did. Otherwise you won't.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I always feel. I always hear this thing in the back of my head going, so what? Ebro, we're tired of you, right?
Ebro Darden
Who's that? Who's that voice?
Peter Rosenberg
Whatever that. I think I'm tired of myself. That's the voice. Like, it's like, I'm tired. I'm tired.
Ebro Darden
You've been Ebro for so long.
Peter Rosenberg
But even with us doing this thing, like, where it's like, yo, you weren't on the Internet and you didn't do the things. You didn't do a podcast. I was doing two radio shows a day. I felt like I was talking enough. I needed to now do another podcast and talk more and. And do more and more and more because you don't care enough to go see the things I'm doing. And I'm. And I'm supposed to chase down the algorithm and like.
Ebro Darden
And also. So I just signed the paperwork on my. My new Real Late situation. Right. I'm gonna announce that in a few days or whatever. And again, I have to announce it. Cause I'm grateful for the opportunity. I'm excited to be in a place where I can play music again. All of those things. But to your point, it's like, oh, announce another thing here. I. Oh, Rosenberg. Really? Congratulations. It's like. Nah, I'm just saying, for the people who like my underground thing, I'm gonna keep doing it. But you have to announce it.
Laura Styles
You have to. You want them to find you.
Ebro Darden
Well, yeah. And the people who are bringing me on, the reason they're bringing you is. Cause, like, we want you to tell
Peter Rosenberg
people you're doing it. Yes.
Ebro Darden
So it's like, don't you congratulate me. Just send your music when I announce it.
Laura Styles
Just.
Peter Rosenberg
It's cool. Congratulations. I think we do. I think we do get sick of ourselves, though. And we get. And I think.
Ebro Darden
Because I know my wife gets sick of it.
Laura Styles
All right.
Ebro Darden
Oh, Peter, you're so great.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I gotta thank my lady, though. She's the best. She's like, tell people. Tell people. No, tell people. People need to know. I'm proud of you. You look great. This is awesome. She's on that type of time for sure. 1000% rule.
Ebro Darden
That's why I think. And. And she brings great ideas to the show.
Peter Rosenberg
Look at that.
Ebro Darden
Unlike you.
Peter Rosenberg
So done. I got. I got a clip. That's right. Young Issa, cross the middle. Touchdown. This is stuff I like bragging about right here. My children.
Ebro Darden
This you can brag about.
Peter Rosenberg
Is that a little trot into the end?
Ebro Darden
Why is that why the kids all did the jump? Celebrate the jump.
Laura Styles
Oh, my God.
Ebro Darden
I didn't see it again. I didn't see it again. I wish you could have zoomed it. That's your video.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. That's all I had. I know. I didn't take that video. I got that from a parent.
Ebro Darden
I just want to get a tighter.
Peter Rosenberg
Can you zoom in on it? Rahsaan, let me see it again.
Ebro Darden
Anyway, though, in stride, extend, avoid the flag. Yo, did she watch the flag football game? The fanatics flag football game?
Peter Rosenberg
No, we were out there. I think it was the same time.
Ebro Darden
It was Saturday. I'd be curious or her thoughts about it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
So, you know, the NFL players got mopped.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. I saw the score. And no worked.
Ebro Darden
And part of it was that, you know, flag football is a different game.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
They operate a different way. They avoiding flags, the kind of plays you run, everything is different. I'll tell you one thing, though. Jaden Daniels played in that game and he didn't do very much. He really just threw the ball a little bit. Yo, do you see the play of Joe Burrow running?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Ebro Darden
Yo, there's. Yo, if I was a Bengals fan, Joe Burrow running and spinning.
Peter Rosenberg
What? What are we doing?
Ebro Darden
Saquon running and jumping in the air for a flag football game. I mean, yo, listen, I know those guys like Michael Rubin a lot, but my God, man, I mean, you got a season.
Peter Rosenberg
And I think probably in their minds they play like that practice though, right? So it's, it's like no contact, right? So in their mind it's not.
Ebro Darden
But as a fan, it's nerve wracking to watch like Jaden, you know, obviously he had a really rough year last year with the injury, so. Yeah, scary stuff.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, guru time.
Ebro Darden
Oh, boy, Here we go. Hey, yo. It's time for the gurus.
Peter Rosenberg
Rosenberg. Laura, you know you are a beautiful queen. Ebro, don't ever play yourself. You're not a guru.
Laura Styles
All right. Do you original gurusmail.com the original gurusmail.com where the gurus unite to fight for what's right. Burn this age, Ebro. Hi, Rosenberg. Who's writing to us?
Peter Rosenberg
Zen.
Laura Styles
Who needs us?
Peter Rosenberg
Zen.
Ebro Darden
So many people are in need of the original gurusmail.com. the original gurus at. Send your message today. You never know when you're gonna hear it. Hey, hey, Bob, Bob, Bob. All right, here we go. I'm just deciding where I want to go with this one. All right, here we go. I'm going to read this one about a woman's job and her mother. A mom that hates my job. I'm a 32 year old mother, fiance and daughter working in the hospitality industry for about 10 years. Started in management at a young age, and while I still consider myself early in my career, I've never experienced a situation like the one I'm currently facing. We recently had a new manager join our team back in December. One day I had to call out of work because my daughter got sick at school and needed to be picked up. I communicated everything and even offered to come in for part of the day once my fiance got home. I was told not to worry about it, just come back the next day. However, when I came in the following day, I was immediately pulled into the office and given a write up for being late over a half hour four times in February. What's confusing is that managers at my job don't clock in. So the only way to track lateness would be by reviewing camera footage or documenting on a said day. No upper management documents. How I know because they make me do it. It feels unsettling to think that someone went back and reviewed nearly a month of footage, especially on a day when I had just called out to care for my child. For context, I'm not the only manager who's been late. There are others who have been significantly later than me by hours at times or have missed time altogether with no communication. My lateness at most has been around 15 minutes. This situation makes me feel like I'm being singled out or used as an example, and I can't help but question if the timing right after I called out for my daughter plays a role. I guess I misunderstood the title here. Sorry. I'll also add that I'm the only manager of six at my level with a child, which adds another layer to how this feels. The other managers with children is two tiers above me. What's different this time is how I responded. In the past, I might have reacted emotionally raged or spoken out immediately, but this time I stayed quiet and processed everything in plain terms. I'm a Taurus and I might have dragged everyone down with me. I'm realizing that I'm growing professionally, even if I'm still figuring out how to navigate situations like this. I recently completed my master's degree and I'm actively looking for new opportunities because I'm not happy in my current role. We have an anonymous HR portal and corporate HR office I can email, but no HR present at my job. My question is should I keep my head down and focus on finding something new or is this something worth addressing? Now, how would you handle this in a professional and strategic way? I truly appreciate your perspective. P.S. i love your show. Thank you for moving to YouTube. You're part of my daily routine after dropping my daughter off and I really enjoying listening to your honest, genuine conversations. Sincerely, just a working mom.
Peter Rosenberg
Hey working mom. And all the other working moms. And and I would. I got a sneaky suspicion that what you're feeling is probably accurate, but how you gonna prove it?
Laura Styles
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
And then once you prove it, I don't know what industry you're in, but once you prove it or whatever and the other CEOs and executives start sharing that this is happening and whatever the lawsuits and the fallout is, is it going to be will there be retaliation? Because while retaliation always happens in there some protection. Can you once again, will you be able to prove it when you go out to get another gig and your name has kind of been circulated around amongst the individuals because you know that's happening.
Laura Styles
Yeah. I mean because even if you ask, I'm curious. How did you guys get to the conclusion that I was late on these days? What method did you use to find this information?
Ebro Darden
Yeah, I'm just curious like how you got.
Laura Styles
I don't clock into. So I just want to know, how do you know that I was late on these days snitches. We can't get you that information, miss. We can't get you.
Peter Rosenberg
And is there any fob? Do you. There's no fob on a door.
Ebro Darden
Here's the problem though. As someone who, when it comes to my daily jobs, can be a little bit on the late side when you're the person who does run late. Even if, you know, my lateness isn't affecting anything. That's the problem with being late. You're not in a position to really make arguments.
Laura Styles
Yeah.
Ebro Darden
Because the fact of the matter is if you weren't late, they wouldn't have anything to say to you. So it does put you in a tough spot because you're already. You're already arguing from a point of weakness, which is that you're you. You know, there's some level of lateness. And if she's telling us it was only a few times and the latest was 15 minutes. As someone who's late, I know that we have a tendency to scale that back a little bit. You know what I'm saying?
Peter Rosenberg
What are you saying? It's probably 25.
Ebro Darden
There's probably a little more times. And there was probably that one time when it was 30. And there was the one time when it was. You know.
Peter Rosenberg
And then didn't she. But didn't she point out she had to go out? Cause of.
Ebro Darden
Well, that's the really whack part. So the really whack part is you took a day. They told you to take a day because of your child. And then when you came back in, that was when they decided to tell you, you know, why are you late all the time?
Laura Styles
Right.
Ebro Darden
So it kind of made it feel like they were waiting on you, which it seems like they are. All of this says to me, keep your head down and find a new gig.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Laura Styles
Cause you gotta op on the inside.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, there's. There's. What I would do is, in fact I might go the other way with it. If you wanted to play the game, just to be safe. Was thinking about our conversation. I heard you loud and clear. I know I've been late a few times. Not going to happen again. I assure you of that. And then make it your business to not be late again. So they don't even have a way to do anything with you. But I'd still. Then be working on your way out the door. But the idea of sitting down and being like, hey, I want to Know how you know Ebro? There's no win here. I do not see the win.
Laura Styles
No, because you were still late.
Ebro Darden
You were late. You don't have a real good leg to stand on.
Laura Styles
So. Yeah, sorry, I just say I like your advice. Just tell me it's not gonna happen again. Don't let it happen again and find a new gig. So say the guru.
Isaac Wayne
Wow,
Laura Styles
she got an op.
Ebro Darden
Listen, I know because I'm the last one who's at my meeting, my pre show meetings every day from my other show. And every once in a while I'll hear like the little jab about it. Even though I know our pre show meetings are literally us just making fun of each other and hanging out because we've already figured out what we're going to do that day. But guess what?
Peter Rosenberg
Connect with you.
Isaac Wayne
And they.
Peter Rosenberg
It might be important for another player to have that bonding moment and loosen things up. But if you not here, but if
Ebro Darden
you give them the reason to have something to say, then you.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, and for everyone else, there's cameras in parking lots. There's a fob that you use to unlock a door.
Ebro Darden
There's still nasty work though.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but they gonna do it. If they trying to figure out a way to save money. They trying to figure out a way to save money. Or someone else is lacking. You're not lacking. And they use your inconsistencies or lateness as to point as a. What about ism? Oh, no, I was trying to finish that, but she wasn't hit. Nah, we would have went over that if Rosenberg was at the meeting.
Ebro Darden
Ah.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you heard? Nah. But why were you guys on doing this talk break so long and. And I thought we weren't going to go talk, but Rosenberg wasn't there. Yo, er, Rosenberg. Another phenomenal week. Shout out to all the love, man. The haters sharing our content and the people who love us. You know what I mean? Sharing our content. Shout out to the Ellipse Army. Shout out to all the guests and artists that we get support from. Been a great week, you know, I mean, that travel this week was a little hard, but I'll see y' all next.
Laura Styles
Listen, get that merch because it's not going to be up for too long. Hey, get the merch.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, I'll be trying to close it quick. I'm trying to close it right after the show.
Ebro Darden
Too quick. Nah, this one. Give them a couple days.
Peter Rosenberg
This is a forever, not a manual fulfillment system.
Laura Styles
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Two days, bro.
Peter Rosenberg
There's one two people putting boxes and stickers on things to get it in the mail, bro.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, we might have to figure that out. That's tough.
Peter Rosenberg
Just don't call it a podcast.
Laura Styles
This is the powerful new single from Daughtry. It's called Antidote.
Peter Rosenberg
Train. Going off the tracks looking by. It's hard to watch the poison take
Ebro Darden
control
Isaac Wayne
when you don't have the energy.
Laura Styles
