Just don't call it a podcast. The Ebro Laura Rosenberg show. Oh, no.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, Happy Friday, y'. All.
Peter Rosenberg
I sort of. Happy Friday, everyone. Hope you enjoyed Ebro and the big versus show. French Montana versus Rick Ross.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, look fun. I saw some clips. I mean, but listen, let's. Let's just wait, Rosenberg. Wait till Ebro comes back because he was there. He was running the whole thing.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right.
Laura Rosenberg
So we can get the inside scoop when he gets back. I think that's cooler. Let's do that.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't want to. Like, I'm always nervous to suggest anything different that we do on the show. I never know if Ebro's gonna, you know, get like, defensive. Sort of feel like we should. We upgrade our intro.
Laura Rosenberg
What do you mean? I like this intro.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's a dope beat. It's a dope little beat.
Laura Rosenberg
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Dope little. Okay. Chitty chat, chit cha chat, ch ch chat. But I don't know if it gives, like, intro vibes. Like, it's a little. You do see what I'm saying, Louie, you like it? You like it?
Laura Rosenberg
I like it too, but. All right, we can think. We'll think about it. But I like the intro chat. Do y' all like it?
Peter Rosenberg
I like it. You like it. Don't trust him. He has a distant mic.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah,
Peter Rosenberg
see. No, no, it's cool, it's cool. All right. I don't want to. I don't want anyone to get. I don't want to get bent out of shape. You know, Ebro's very sensitive. Don't let him fool you.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
Especially if you. If we're like. If we say anything too critical about the space, I'm amazed he let me. Didn't freak out when I put the heels hat up behind.
Laura Rosenberg
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, little by little, we're giving it character.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
To where you might. And I actually do think. I didn't think of this at the time, but now. Cause we were having that conversation about like, how hip hop we are versus, like, other stuff.
Laura Rosenberg
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Because we do do so much other stuff. I like that the decorum around it is hip hop.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Because there may be shows where we really don't talk hip hop.
Laura Rosenberg
It's true. I mean, somebody said you guys have a cool variety show. I'm like, variety show.
Peter Rosenberg
I know, but like, how are they? Are they lying?
Danny Funt
Yeah.
Laura Rosenberg
How do you really think about that?
Peter Rosenberg
It's variety show. A jace.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Sometimes it's all politics. Sometimes on Fridays it's like all family related stuff.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, we dedicated to the fonts, but like, for the most part, we cover some hip hop, heavy politics, personal stories, some drama.
Peter Rosenberg
See, we were talking about this the other day and I mentioned on yesterday's show that like the Soros people are like getting into the media game. And I'm like, we literally should be linking with them. Like, that's literally. We're the kind of show that people like that who are trying to put out left leaning agendas.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
That's who we need to get on the radar with, you know, Wrong. You know what I'm saying? I mean, this is the kind of. Because the thing is, I think what everyone's always nervous about is when you do left leaning stuff, it ends up coming off like Air America. I don't know if you remember in the early 2000.
Laura Rosenberg
I don't.
Peter Rosenberg
Al Gore and some other people started this Air America that was supposed to be like the liberal Fox News for radio and stuff like that. And yeah, it ended up coming off as like, boring and just what didn't really pop off.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And they had like some big name like Marc Maron who's now become this gigantic podcaster. They had him there. They had different people who were like of note. It just didn't ring. And that's sort of like. Actually we didn't get to the Obama clip this week. It's sort of like what Obama was talking about though, in terms of trying to approach things in a way that are a little bit less stiff.
Laura Rosenberg
Right, right, right, right. I hear you.
Peter Rosenberg
The Dems are always stiff. You know, we're not like wacky and free. Feeling like fun. Donald Trump.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just, just makes me laugh. I need any anybody tries to like come for us a bit like, oh, look at show. Look at how many dei. How many right leaning shows are there?
Peter Rosenberg
A million.
Laura Rosenberg
So many go over there.
Peter Rosenberg
D Ebro I. That's what we call it. So welcome to the FOT Friday.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes. Bienvenidos, bienvenidos.
Peter Rosenberg
We're going to actually want to start the show. I wanted to bring on a friend of the show and I don't know that you've ever met Danny Funt, but he. I know him because his dad originally was the man behind Candid Camera. And I ended up doing an episode with Sypha sounds of Candid Camera thanks to Danny.
Laura Rosenberg
What?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, who was producing the show, who's done a ton of interesting things, but right now he wrote a book called Everybody Loses the Tumultuous Rise of Of American Sports Gambling. And he reached out about the book and I was like, you know what, this sounds like something we should at least hit on this show because I feel like it speaks to a lot of people.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So with that we bring in Danny Funt. What's up, Danny?
Laura Rosenberg
Danny, welcome.
Danny Funt
What's up? Good to be with you. Big, big, longtime fan of the show.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's what I was gonna say. Cause I don't think you and Laura have ever met, but I know that when you and I originally connected, it's cause you were always a big Hot 97 listener and knew us well. Tell everyone real quick, just your origin story, Candid Camera, all of that stuff. Catch us up to where you became author.
Danny Funt
Yeah, I'm not really involved in Candid Camera. It's just a family legacy thing. And I told them you gotta get Peter to do this gag about freestyle rap. So that was fun.
Laura Rosenberg
I got this.
Danny Funt
I've been covering sports gambling for several years now, mainly for the Washington Post, also the New Yorker, the Wall Street Journal, some other places. And it led me to write this book called Everybody Loses that's out now. It's a major investigation into why sports betting is everywhere. Who's making money off it, who's losing money off it and where it's all headed. Because in sports politics, even hip hop, in some respects, it's just totally a dominant force and kind of hard to wrap your head around and, and I'm trying to get to the bottom of all that in the book.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh yeah, because I, I can honestly say I have seen more advertisements and like, you know, sponsorship deals and just in your face sports gambling in the past three years, more than I've ever have.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Laura Rosenberg
Just being honest with you, like I'm, I'm trying to think and I'm like, all of a sudden we started seeing all of these pop up and then seeing like big figures in hip hop, embrace it and push it out. And I always had like, mm, interesting. Cause I'm like this, you know. Yeah, it's a business opportunity, but there's also a really dark side to this.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. First of all, Danny, how much has it grown over the last decade or so since we got the legalization? And this whole thing sort of became a thing that everyone could have on
Danny Funt
their phone since 2018 when the Supreme Court struck down a ban on bookmaking outside of Nevada, where it's been legal since about the 1950s. But we're really talking about an eight year period during which Americans have bet more than $650 billion. New Yorkers alone have bet $90 billion. And that graph is still going up. New York set a record in January around like NFL playoffs, college football playoffs, all that. The most money bet ever. And New York legalized, I think in 2022. So it's been a while, but it's still growing really quickly. And now you've got prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket that are bringing in a whole other pool of people. So it's kind of hard to wrap your head around those numbers that.
Laura Rosenberg
You blew me away, bro. I did not think you were going
Danny Funt
to hit the billions.
Peter Rosenberg
And listen, it's an, it's a, it's a slightly awkward spot for someone like me who's always done reads for these websites. Because to be truthful with you, in the case of both of our radio stations, yeah, some of the business was, was keeping us afloat, you know, and so it's very hard for us who are in the sports world to not end up participating in it. I'm not gonna Say I've had no moral qualms with it. Cause I certainly have. But at the end of the day, in some ways it's kept the lights on for a lot of people, particularly in sports. Danny, what's like, what's the most troubling thing? I know this is like a gigantic issue that we're gonna squeeze into a short conversation. Cause I wanted to publicize this book. But what is like the most troubling pattern and thing that you've been seeing as you've been studying sports gambling's evolution here?
Danny Funt
I'd say state after state. And this is because the industry has been hugely influential in lobbying and getting their legislation passed in one state after another. But a lot of states have basically trusted the sports books to self police. And yeah, there are regulations about like money laundering and you know, you don't want kids betting and all that. But by and large, as far as consumer protections go, the industry has been trusted to handle responsible gambling, as they call it. And I was lucky enough to speak with a lot of people who work at operators like FanDuel and DraftKings and Caesars and Fanatics and all these different sportsbooks. And people there say that just doesn't work. That there are such powerful incentives to look the other way if a customer shows signs of a gambling problem, to egg on the biggest losers, these VIPs who are losing thousands and thousands of dollars every week and are just showered with the most incredible perks and freebies and treatment you could think of to get them to keep betting more and more. All of that is allowed because the states have basically said, you guys police yourselves. And it doesn't, it's not good enough. I remember one executive at a sportsbook said, if you think about it, your job is basically to slowly bleed customers dry. And he also said, if you're lucky enough to be an exec like me, you can make good money, but you don't feel good about it, that's for sure. I heard that stuff again and again and it's why even people in the industry have misgivings or fears that this is going to get way out of hand.
Laura Rosenberg
What are some of the worst case scenarios that you've seen or read about? Like, I'm sure it's going to be people losing homes, blah, blah, blah. But I'm just curious, like what is the worst that you've been like, oh my God, this is terrible.
Danny Funt
There are a bunch in the book. A lot of it comes back to what I mentioned a second ago about VIPs where they're getting not just everything you could imagine with sports, you know, courtside tickets, luxury suites, but also getting to play pickup on an NBA court, getting to throw out the first pitch at a major league baseball game when you're getting that sort of treatment and just thousands of dollars in promotions and all this stuff to keep you going. If you do have a gambling problem, that makes it way more difficult to quit because you're giving up the gambling, but also that first class treatment. The other thing I'll mention, this isn't in the book, but I was talking about the book on WNYC and some middle aged guy calls in and says, I have a son who's been gambling since he was a teenager. He's lost more than $200,000. And my wife and I can't get through to him because he doesn't even think what he's doing is betting. He thinks sports gambling is an investment strategy or a side hustle. And even though he's lost so much money, he can't overcome that mindset. And it's made him and this, this guy and his wife estranged from their son just because it's such a massive problem in their lives. And so the fact that so many people think of sports betting as a way to make money and that yet the sports books do so much and are so talented, I guess, at preventing you from actually turning a profit. That is why this is a recipe for trouble for a lot of sports fans.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's, it's, oh, it's, it's so problematic. There's so many levels to this and it does seem to be getting younger and younger when, when in fact, Danny, it makes perfect sense for you to have you come back on my, once I launch Validate me later in the month to have you come on that show. Because this is such an, this is such a just classic addiction and in many ways just scratches that same itch that other things do of that. But the craziest thing about the gambling addiction, in my opinion is, and I'm sure, Danny, I'm sure you've covered this in the book and talked to people about it is people don't just get addicted to winning, they get addicted to losing also, which is so like wild. Like once you win too much, Laura, it actually gets boring and you need that feeling of being down to find the feeling of being up.
Laura Rosenberg
Right. I never thought of it that way, but yes, yes, it makes sense.
Peter Rosenberg
So, so with all the different random things that I deal with, I don't get Drawn into this, even though I do like to. I do like occasionally. I've been betting on the Knicks recently and been having fun with it.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And I'll play with the money that's in my account and I literally, you know, I'll have the same dollars I go up and down with over the course of a year or two, whatever. And I'll bet 20 here, the hundred here, whatever it is. But I know I used to enjoy it more and I was just always too cheap to put big money on it. Fortunately, same. But I know what that feeling is of like, once, let's say you're betting a football game in the third quarter, the team that you're favor, you picked, the commanders are favored by six and a half and they're up by 20. Once you get assured that the game is locked, the high goes away and you start thinking about like, Danny, is this a common thing you hear about? You start thinking about, well, what's the next thing I can bet? Because once it is confirmed that you won, you don't even feel good anymore.
Danny Funt
Absolutely. You're going to give it right back. I heard about this guy. I mean, that, that happens all the time. It's why, you know, casinos will let you bet and bet because they know the money's gonna come right back to them, even if you're winning at first. It's so true. And one of the things that actually can be the biggest curse for a better is that big win. I've spoken with so many people who were fine, and then they hit that, you know, five leg parlay or the plus 1,000 odds, you know, long shot. And that was a curse because they're chasing that, that money, but also that feeling day after day. And so, yeah, so many. Yeah. This is what's called a progressive disorder. It's not like you do a drug one time and you say, okay, I might have a problem with that, or I might already feel the signs of addiction. It can take years for that to set in. And sometimes it's that big win that does it.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a great point, Danny. The book is called Everybody Loses the Tumultuous Rise of American Sports Gambling by Danny Funt. Go buy it. Because there's so many people listening right now who have people in their lives that are dealing with this or will be dealing with it. So it's an important issue. And glad we could have you on to talk about it a bit. Thank you, man.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes, thank you, Danny.
Danny Funt
Thank you both. Happy early Mother's Day, Laura.
Laura Rosenberg
Thank you. Appreciate that, Danny.
Peter Rosenberg
Thanks, Danny. Have a goin', buddy.
Danny Funt
You too. Peace.
Peter Rosenberg
That's Danny. Fun. But really, it is. I know in the chat, there's some people like, all right, let's get onto. This is a really prevalent thing thing right now. And I'm conflicted by it because obviously, Laura, you know, I've done all these reads. I, I, I, I read fanduel stuff on espn. Like, you know, it's, it's sort of like promoting an alcohol brand or marijuana brand.
Laura Rosenberg
I've been there, you know, I've been sponsored by a major, you know, liquor company. And then I've also seen, like, you know, I, you know, how, how we both feel about people like, drinking and driving and, you know, and yeah, it's
Peter Rosenberg
so it's a mixed bag. Cause you're like, yeah, you can use this, but a lot of people are using it really badly. And I know some people out there who love to throw, like, on a football Sunday. They have 20 bets out there, $5 here, $2 here, $5 here. But then there are other people, and like, I've been at the Garden before for like, a UFC fight night, and there are kids who I could tell are, like, teenagers, 20 years old. Just like, it's all they're thinking about is the next bet.
Laura Rosenberg
And that's what creeps me out, though, how young these kids are starting to, like, try it because there's so many, like, apps right now that mimic it. So it's like, it's a perfect gateway, you know.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, there's so many other things, man. So, yeah, listen, validate me. Coming soon. I'm gonna have to deal with that, too. This is all, all these. There's so many different things to deal with. All right, Laura,
Laura Rosenberg
let's go. Family matters. Time.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a rare condition this day and age to read and get good news on the newspaper page. Love and tradition. Some people say it's even harder to
Ebro Darden
find
Peter Rosenberg
so many things happening this week with the families, including our audience. You guys who can send your emails to Ebro, Laura Rosenberg. What is it? Ebro Laura rosenbergmail.com that's it. That's it. See, this is the problem. Love of the family. You hear this song and you picture, and then you look at Instagram and on Instagram, all you see is everybody having the best time. And then you're having a moment where you're like, this is the worst time. I am friggin miserable. And nobody else is miserable. It's just me. I am just here to remind you, everybody is equally miserable and everybody is just equally not posting it on their Instagram page. So don't compare yourself to other people. Don't compare your inside to other people's outside.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Because that's what Instagram is. You're just seeing their outside, but you know, your own inside. So it's like, I just, you know, I say that as someone who's come out of. We had the four months of in the other apartment, the finding a nanny, the adjusting to being new parents. Like, it's just, there's hard things about this, this life, of course. And no one really talks about that.
Laura Rosenberg
And Instagram is a highlight reel. That's all it is.
Peter Rosenberg
Yo, bro, look how dope everything is.
Laura Rosenberg
Look how great we are. Everything is awesome.
Peter Rosenberg
And trust me. So that's why when I see Rihanna, like, we talked about this yesterday. When you see Rihanna and ASAP Rocky having an argument, it's like so, so right. God, don't you. You ever have that feeling, though, when you're, like, getting into it with Ricardo and you're like, somewhere semi public and it will cross my mind, like, I hope no one's watching here as we clearly, like, granted, I'm not screaming in the street, but you can clearly tell we're annoyed.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Yeah, of course. I think about that all the time, but. All right, well, show me something positive. What's going on with baby Maya?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, baby Maya. Well, I'll start with. Should I start with the positive video or the story? Bascom, I know you were curious about the tackling story.
Laura Rosenberg
All right, let's go.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, all right. Here. Natalie sent me this, like, yesterday or the day before during the show.
Laura Rosenberg
All right, let's see how cute.
Peter Rosenberg
I hadn't even seen this yet in person. Put it on the screen. We can't see Bascom. Thanks, Ron. Little Ringo Star, let's go.
Laura Rosenberg
This is so cute. Oh, my God.
Peter Rosenberg
Both hands playing a drum kit. It's so freaking cute. I haven't even seen this in person yet.
Laura Rosenberg
I like how she, like, hits it. I was like, you saw that?
Peter Rosenberg
You saw that? I love her so much.
Laura Rosenberg
So funny.
Peter Rosenberg
God, I love her so much. She's so cute. This week. Let's see what else happened this week. We had our 15 month doctor's appointment.
Listener/Caller
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
I was very disappointed to learn that she only weighs 20 pounds.
Laura Rosenberg
Why?
Peter Rosenberg
Because how hard it's getting for me. I assumed she was closer to 30.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Which means I need to get in there and do these biceps more.
Laura Rosenberg
Family.
Peter Rosenberg
You Think it's biceps, right?
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Is that the main.
Laura Rosenberg
It's your biceps. And also, like, I. I suggest you hit that cardio because you think that right now she's speeding, right? Just wait. Just wait. Because it.
Peter Rosenberg
Get.
Laura Rosenberg
It turns up when you're. Yo. Do you know what I felt? I was in the playground with her, and Kenza went all the way up, and she's like, mommy, I can't get down. I was like, how the hell am I gonna get up there?
Peter Rosenberg
I gotta climb up this.
Laura Rosenberg
And I had to, like, weave in and get up there. Peter. I was like, I'm not gonna embarrass myself. I got this. But, you know, I was scared. I was shook and insecure.
Peter Rosenberg
But you were able to get up there and get her.
Laura Rosenberg
I did it. But next time I'm like, yep, ask your dad.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, and. And what does Kenza weigh now? 50 pounds.
Laura Rosenberg
No, Kenza is like, she's 39 pounds. She still hasn't hit 40. And then I.
Peter Rosenberg
She could still be in a Duda, bro.
Laura Rosenberg
The amount of shame that I get from, like, you know, the grandmas. But she eats. The doctor was like, so what? She has a fast metabolism. She's perfectly healthy. She's taller than most kids, and she's just going to be a slim kid.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, it's great news for Rick in particular, who I'm guessing does the bulk of carrying her.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, when you have to. Because she's four.
Laura Rosenberg
She's five.
Peter Rosenberg
She's already five. That was her fifth birthday.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. Yeah, bro. She's going to be six this year. I know.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, she's five.
Laura Rosenberg
She's five. She's going to be six. October.
Peter Rosenberg
I know. We know what the next number is. Don't. Ebro.
Laura Rosenberg
Okay. Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
That's Ebro.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, how old going to be? Six. Five.
Laura Rosenberg
She's five. Yeah, she's five.
Peter Rosenberg
That's me. Like, I. And I like to hang on to each moment. So anyways. But what I'm saying is. So I obviously don't carry her as much anymore, but on a day where she's tired or whining. And I'm sure she's like, daddy, at least the fact that she's 39 pounds, he can carry her some. But I gotta do these bicep curls more because the £20. So otherwise. Yo, this is crazy. And this clearly shows that she is half a.m. rossi and not all Rosenberg. 94th percentile for height.
Laura Rosenberg
Mm.
Peter Rosenberg
She has been. She's learning to, like, take instructions more. The main thing we have going. The main instruction is a good one. We're big on. Put it back, put it back, put it back. And having her put the books back after she throws the ball on the floor.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But the doctor was telling me though, it's a good time to try to teach her more.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Instructions.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
She loves her ABCs. She's starting to like repeat the sounds of them. Like Q, R, S, T, W, X and X. She's starting to copy the sounds more. No, she's doing great. But we took her to our friend Zach and Amanda's house the other day in Jersey. And Zach and Amanda have an adorable 3 year old boy named Henry. And Henry's a very sweet kid and he loves baby Maya. He's always interested in baby Maya. Oh, baby Maya this, baby Maya that. Yo. At one point, Laura, we're in the backyard and I hear like a. Oh. And I look over and Maya's feet are just sticking straight up on the ground.
Laura Rosenberg
What?
Peter Rosenberg
And I'm not being dramatic here, I'm telling you honestly, what happened to my brain. I looked over and my baby is laying flat on her back. And all I see is like, Henry is on top of her. And I'm like. My brain could not process why is my child lying flat on the ground. And I'm not gonna lie. I paused. I really was. I was like. And Natalie and Amanda both like jumped to them and picked them both up, right? And Maya was just like. Now fortunately, it was in their like little garage, which is cement on the floor. Fortunately, Maya's head, they were in front of trash cans. Like plasticy trash cans.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So Maya's head, I guess hit the plasticky trash can. Thank God almighty. And Henry obviously meant nothing by it. He loves her. And I guess was excited and just ran and crashed into her and took her out. But I. And I love Henry. He's a great little kid. But this bascom, I mean, no offense by this. Are boys idiots? I'm sorry, Are little boys idiots? Like, he's such a sweet little. I'm just like, why? Hold on.
Laura Rosenberg
Rahsaan, put your mic on. Because you're in tears over there.
Peter Rosenberg
Cause baskin my mom out of bounds. You're like, what's wrong with these little boys? No, boys are crazy. They will do the wildest things. But I was laughing because the pause in his, like, it sounded like he wanted to say more. He wanted to kill this little kid. No, no, no. He said he, like, I love him. I'm like, why did you just tackle my year and three month old little girl? She's a baby. She's a baby and she was flat on her back. I was so proud. And I think it is a sign. I think Maya likes him. Not like she's years. She doesn't know what that is. But I think she's obsessed with little kids.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So I think rather than be upset, I think if she'd fallen on her own, she might have been more likely to cry. But it's almost like she thought it was fun in some way. I don't know. I'm playing with a little kid, but yeah, it did. And there were other moments where Henry was like running around with like a bat of some sort and I'm just like, I'm also not. I'll be honest. We are underdeveloped, Natalie and I in this like playing with other kids thing. We're just not there yet. We haven't done enough with her outside. This summer will probably be a transformative period. Lots of beach play.
Laura Rosenberg
Cause you gotta let her rock, man. You gotta let her do it.
Peter Rosenberg
I know, but it's hard.
Laura Rosenberg
You can watch. And if you can say hey, hey, hey. Cause I constantly on the playground with like she's three, watch out. She's three years old. I would tell other kids that's a baby.
Peter Rosenberg
Cause they're six or something.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes. And they're pushing her out of the way as they're running, throwing things. So there's going to be times where you want to toss a kid but you can't. So you just got to remind them of, you know, she's one. Yeah, she's one years old. Yo, wait, wait till you start.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I can't, Laura, I'm not.
Laura Rosenberg
There's another parent, there's another parent and they're not checking their kid. Like there was a scenario where it's like. And it's going to happen. Kids some, some a hole kids, they love to block the, the slide.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I know, I've heard of the slot.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes, yes, yes. So there was this one kid who kept elbowing Kenza when she was trying to go down is. She's an older. She was like maybe like five or six and Kenzo was like three. And the mom is watching it. Yep. So I would tell her hey, she's three, be careful, she's a baby, you know. And then after when I see, I'm like, I see the mom right doing. And I was like, hey, can you tell your child to let my 3 year old go down and she's like, oh. She's like, honey, like, halfway says it. The little girl does nothing. And I said, hey, you need to let her. You need to let her through. That's when I started getting, like, angry. And the mom was like, oh, you know what I mean? But you got to turn up sometimes. You have to. And you're going to, knowing you watch, you're going to.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it was a funny. It was an interesting situation. I know I'm going to. And I know we need more experience, but it was an interesting situation because, like, obviously, everything turned out fine, and we laughed about it. Whatever.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But, like, if, God forbid, she lands it on the cement.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Now you have, like, this awkward, like. Because nobody means anything by it.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But kids are kids, and you're just like, yo. Anyways, so as Natalie and I continue our conversation about when. When it's time for a kid, do we want a girl or a boy? Because we can choose. I just go through these moments where, like, Laura, I go back and forth between. Having a boy would be so meaningful for me because my relationship with my dad, like, I can't identify the. Me and my mom don't replicate me and Maya. We replicate Maya and a dad, which is not in my family because there were no girls. The only thing I could identify with in that very direct way that I'm guessing would hit me in a different way. And I'm sure you've had this because you're the mom of a daughter. The way your mom is a mom to you and your sister is. You can be like, oh, that's what my mom. I am curious about how that would feel, because my dad is the father of boys. And I'd be like, oh, this is not my dad. Okay. But then sometimes I'll be, boys are idiots.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, I know. But I'll tell you this, okay. There's a video that I sent. I sent in. This is. Check this video. It's really cute. It's. We were in Greenport.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Laura Rosenberg
By Shelter Island. Yeah. Yes. Look at this. That's Kenza.
Peter Rosenberg
I love her throwback Yankee sweatshirt like
Laura Rosenberg
a little baby goats. Okay. I did it quick because the other. So the other little boy is my girlfriend son. His name is Santos. He is the sweetest, most just loving child. And he reminds me. I'm like, yo, this boy is such a beautiful soul that I'm like, I am thankful that she's just raising, like, good boys. And that's. And that's how, if you decide to go that way, you will be raising wonderful young men. Rasana is raising a lot of wonderful young men.
Peter Rosenberg
One of them. One of them could go awol, though. When you have four, you never know.
Laura Rosenberg
It could. It could happen.
Peter Rosenberg
And listen, basketball tells which one's the most likely right now.
Laura Rosenberg
But look there, listen. You could also pour everything into your child and do everything right, and then they turn out a mess. So it's a gamble. You never know.
Peter Rosenberg
My. My nephew Alex, who is 18 now and going to Emory next year. Nah, he's such a sweet boy. Like, he makes me want to have a boy because he's such a good boy. And I'm like. And to your point, obviously, my niece is a great girl, but, like, you don't worry about girls in the same way. The world needs kind of gentlemen. Gentlemen for real. And, like, my nephew is one.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. And so smart and compassionate. You know what I mean?
Peter Rosenberg
But it's hard. Like, man, so I hear you. I go back and forth. I see a. But, man, I'm not gonna lie. The daddy daughter thing is special. And in that sense, you know, it would be nice for Natalie to get to have that boy the way boys love on their mom's thing, too, you know?
Laura Rosenberg
So we'll see.
Peter Rosenberg
Because in the teenage years, there tends to be. Not always there can be a thing where girls clash with their moms.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, I was the opposite. I actually. Me and my mom have always been tight, and me and my dad were like oil and water.
Peter Rosenberg
I wonder if your dad, God rest his soul, I wonder if your dad made that better for your mom in the sense that he was such a pain in the ass that it forced your mom to be like, no, we're good. I have to be you and I have to be good.
Laura Rosenberg
It could be, right? Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
But every situation is different.
Laura Rosenberg
It's different. But anyway, yeah, I spent the weekend at Shelter island, and it was the nicest thing I did for myself. Now, I had planned this already, so obviously you guys know that my best girlfriend passed away, right? So I was like, do I cancel? And I was like, no, let's get out of here. I just need a different energy, some fresh air, baby goats, you know, baby
Peter Rosenberg
goats is the thing.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. So we had a really wonderful time, and it was beautiful. I saw the most beautiful pink sunset.
Peter Rosenberg
You guys stay there?
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You stay the night at a hotel? I just got a hotel. Like a cute. I went on hotels, you know, Got a little cute. By the way, the hotels are all expensive over there. They're crazy expensive. But anyway, it Was just a much needed weekend for me. And this weekend, I got so many beautiful messages from the El Army.
Peter Rosenberg
You did?
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, so many thoughtful messages. And I'm sorry if I just gave you, like, a little heart because I was very overwhelmed. I'm still very overwhelmed, but I just appreciate all the sweet messages.
Peter Rosenberg
Did you get me and Natalie's gift?
Laura Rosenberg
I did. Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
I think it's very. It is very useful when you're ready for it.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes, yes.
Peter Rosenberg
It might take a little bit of time.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. No, no, no. I'm gonna go in. I'm gonna dive in. I told Natalie's, like, you could return it if you want to. It's a wonderful digital frame. Yeah, I always wanted one.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you never had one?
Listener/Caller
No.
Danny Funt
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Perfect.
Laura Rosenberg
It's perfect.
Ebro Darden
Yeah.
Laura Rosenberg
So I'm gonna pull in some wonderful moments.
Peter Rosenberg
Here's my digital frame. We have a digital frame that Natalie is filled with pictures of everything, but a lot of Rocky.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And literally, our life is. We're sitting around watching tv, and the frame is under it. And this is every day.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God, Look. Rocky. Every. Every 10 minutes. Look. Remember when Rocky met the baby goat? Remember when Rocky. But it is nice. And. Because with people, you know, with the people and animals that we love the most, like, yeah, they stay in your life forever, so you just want to kind of keep seeing them.
Laura Rosenberg
So that's it. All right.
Peter Rosenberg
Anyways, let's read. You want to hear a voice note perhaps?
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, let's do it.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Ozzy hits us on this family Friday.
Danny Funt
Yeet.
Ebro Darden
What up, fam? Out of here. Checking in. Yo, I don't want that, man. I'm just checking in to show some love. I love the show. As per usual, every morning, checking in, listen to yalls conversation with my cup of coffee ready for work. You know what I'm saying? Yo, Rosenberg, congratulations on Wrestlemania, bro. Every time I see you on wrestling, dog, I just. I feel a sense of pride, man.
Peter Rosenberg
Aw, that's so nice.
Ebro Darden
Really doing it, man. Keep doing it, man. Keep. Keep up the great work. Don't listen to the haters. Or keep listening to them and keep crashing out. Either way, we love it. Laura, keep being your perfect self, you know what I'm saying? Love hearing stories about young Kenza in love with blood and death and. And all that, man. Love that Queen of the underworld. Soon come, you know, Ozzy. Ebro, my spirit animal, my brother. Yo, man, I do have one complaint, one gripe with you, Ebro. Me as a person that needs corrective lenses every Day of his life. Just seeing you sitting there with your, with your fake smart glasses on, knowing you have fine sight, you're a fine sighted person. I'm just like, look at this dude taking up all the frames for us.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he's a fraud.
Ebro Darden
He's a fraud anyway.
Laura Rosenberg
He's a fraud.
Ebro Darden
Love y', all, man. Keep doing your thing. Keep up the great work. Shouts out to the chat, by the way. What up, chat? I mean, that's me down there. Illmonger Gaming. That's me. Subscribe or not, whatever. It's all good. Shouts out to y'. All. And I'm gonna leave y' all with this. Three letters, one show.
Peter Rosenberg
E, L, R. Yeah, he's a big wrestling fan now. He's, he's. He's USOing. He's LA knighting. He's doing it.
Laura Rosenberg
All right, fire Ozzy. Thank you. That was sweet.
Peter Rosenberg
Now I'm gonna say something contro right now here on the show because I'm looking at the screen up here and I've seen this in the chat before. I'm gonna throw this out here. And this is controversial and this caused problems, but I'm gonna say it. The show does look good with Laura in the main in the seat. And like Ron, you just. You, you, you nodded your head like, ron, am I wrong? Because you're the, you're the, the, the viewer. There's something like, nice about Laura in front of the logo. Am I wrong? No, I hear what you're saying. I do. I don't hear you.
Laura Rosenberg
Hold on.
Peter Rosenberg
Can you hear me now? Yeah, I got you. Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I do like it as well. Go back to her. Take it off me.
Laura Rosenberg
Let me see.
Peter Rosenberg
The chat agrees.
Laura Rosenberg
The chat agrees. Oh, my God. April's like, no fam. This is my seat.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, here's the thing. I would argue because, like, this is Family Friday. It's a good time to discuss this.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
One problem we know we have on the show. Yeah, unquestionably, is that Ebro and I over talk and talk over Laura. Yeah, that is a problem. It's something I know, I work on. I assume Ebro works on also, but it happens. It's sort of the way I feel about my afternoon show. So, for example, if the Knicks, like last week, the Knicks had a huge game and Don was out the next day.
Laura Rosenberg
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Allen is part of the Knicks broadcast. So when we go to do the show, and Ron, I know you, you guys both listen pretty regularly. If it's a Big Knick show. And Don, because Don often. Don usually leads. If Don's out and it's a big Knick show, I lead. I lead so I can set up Allen, because Allen's already going to be talking a lot because it's Knicks. So if Alan were to lead and it's a big Knick show, he basically is never shutting up. That's sort of what we face here to a certain extent, is that Ebro and I both talk a lot.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So with Ebro being in that chair and being first voice and setting himself up, it just ends up being a lot of us. And I just wonder if there's a world that we could ever work to. And this would probably require communication because Ebro does lead a lot of our ideas of what we want to talk about, which, to his credit, I mean, listen, he will tell you every time he gets a chance that, like, all I want to do is talk. This man, he says he don't want to talk in his personal life. When it comes to here, my man wants to talk. And by the way, to his credit, I have realized I would not be good in that spot because, like, there are days when I come in, I'm like, I don't know what we're gonna do today. And he always has a lot of ideas.
Laura Rosenberg
Same, same. There's sometimes like, oh, God, what are we passionate about today?
Peter Rosenberg
So it would require him being able to, like, tell you, like, here's what I'd like to be set up on, blah, blah. But I do think there could be a nice aesthetic to, like, Laura sort of leading the way to setting us up, because me and Ebro are always gonna talk more than you, because it's just who we are.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyways, anyway. And I also like it when I think guests should sit here too. I really enjoyed the guest being in the seat.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, because. But also, when the clips go out, it means that they're showlore again.
Laura Rosenberg
Chat. Right, right. You agree?
Listener/Caller
Chat.
Laura Rosenberg
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Although I. Although I do wish there's a. It's still. It's still our logoing, even if you only get the bottom of the logo.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I do sort of wish there was a way to have the logo lower so when you go to that single, you always see Ebra. Laura Rosenberg.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, chat. You guys are family, so you're part of this convo.
Peter Rosenberg
So Louis will throw a little. He threw a thing up there. Threw a poll up there.
Laura Rosenberg
All right, so let's hit some of the emails. Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Here we go. Go ahead, Laura.
Laura Rosenberg
Let me see. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. Here we go. This is from Tara. Just sending an email to say thank you. Currently on maternity leave for my second child. No matter how tired I am from the several middle of the night wake ups, I make sure to be downstairs by 8am to watch you live with my cup of coffee and newborn while my toddler is in school.
Peter Rosenberg
I thought she said Newport, but I was high four.
Laura Rosenberg
Newborn. Newborn while my toddler is in school. Sometimes my husband joins too. And I already know this will be a favorite memory mine for years to come when I look back and remember my maternity leave. But don't worry, once my leave is over, I will go back to listening on my commute to work via YouTube or Apple Podcasts. I just love y'. All. Oh, Tara, that's so dope. Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
That was really, really, really, really dope.
Laura Rosenberg
I love that. All right, what you got?
Peter Rosenberg
Let's see. Here we go. Yeah, this guy asked a lot of questions.
Laura Rosenberg
I know, bro. Some of them are like damn, guys, can you just.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, summarize? I won't get to all of them, but Tut reaches out to us. All right, thoughts and cipher sounds in Rosenberg days. Love you guys and followed you from the radio station. Want to share some thoughts and have some questions? One Usually catch you guys on the Apple podcast. The sound is really low and I'm not sure if that's the same for all the other platforms. I have to put the volume all the way up when the commercials play and then when the commercials play, they're much louder. And when compared to other podcasts, I need to significantly lower the volume for those shows. Also, the sound level within the show needs to be leveled out. For example, Laura is usually very low compared to Ebro and Rosenberg. Big shocker element. Well, and when you guys play clips, the sound is even lower than Laura's volume. I I guys, I've had this. I I, I really would love our engineer to like hear this and try to address it there. There's something off in how we are processing and it's not a Ron issue. It's this is a sound issue.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So I, I do want us to figure that out and I appreciate your patience with it. 2. I think it'd be nice if you guys had your phone of thoughts calling just to say hi. I really like them. I was one of the phonofots a few times and your regulars were much better than me. Caswan picked me once and Ebro said Tut is labeled boo. Thanks, Grif. 3. Do you push all of your content out to the Apple podcast except the Patreon exclusive episodes? I asked because I thought listening to all the podcast episodes would cover all the non Patreon stuff, but I realized I never heard the Rhea Ripley episode. Do I need to weed through all the YouTube videos to see what's on the podcast? That may have been a mistake. Full Ria never made it to podcast.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, Full Ria should be there if that.
Peter Rosenberg
If, if Full Ria didn't go. It was a mistake.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I would say that.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, last one he's got here. I ended up reading all of them. These are pretty good, though. Thank you, Rosenberg, for addressing one ep. I supported the ELR Patreon the same day you guys started, and I decided to finally start supporting the 1up Patreon that same day, only to find out you guys were kind of going on a hiatus with new content. I'm still supporting anyway just because of how much content you've given me from when you guys started the very first hip hop podcast. I hope you and Saifa figure it out because Billy June needs you guys. Lolly June, keep doing what you guys are doing. I love it. I miss Laura. Never loses. Because I miss Laura nerding out about space. Not a joke. I love Laura and I love space. That is very, very funny.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, my God.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I'm in a quandary about Wanapp.
Laura Rosenberg
I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know exactly how to handle it all.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, we'll see though.
Peter Rosenberg
I definitely don't think it'll be the end end. You just like, I have to prioritize things. I want to do things for the one at patrons that are still there besides just old episodes. But you know, Seife is very busy and doing his thing and even Billy June, God bless him, I have to like be on him about producing throwback episodes to put out. And I just like how much bandwidth do I have? Yeah, this show takes up a. This show takes up a good amount of bandwidth for all of us.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And then I have all the other stuff. So I feel bad about it, but I. And I don't think it's over, but I don't know where it is right now.
Laura Rosenberg
All right, we'll see. Here we go. Hey, family. Been fought since Rosenberg was with Siphon K Fox and Ebro was the PD at this point. You guys are family. I just wanted to big up Lady Laura for setting the guy straight during family matters on April 10 as both kept with the quote, unquote, the wives. And this is what the woman that to clean up. Peter's attempted explanation to repetitive complaining. Role of. And the problem solver role are featured in most relationships, but to Laura's point, neither is gender specific. And relax, Peter. I'm not coming for you neck here. You're actually my favorite on the show, so this is a friendly ground for you, my guy. Nothing but respect. Oh, and Ebro, don't ever play yourself. You're still not a guru. I will say you guys have gotten better at that. And I appreciate it. I've caught Ibro catching himself, and I've seen you do it too, and I appreciate it.
Peter Rosenberg
Which one?
Laura Rosenberg
Just like, little things. Because, you know, it annoys me when you guys get really super like, oh, all the wives do this and women in this. And I'm just like, yeah, but not every woman does that. I feel like. Although, yes, people generally stereotype. But I appreciate that you've caught yourself a couple times and, like, said, yeah, because women do this. Yeah. But men do it too. And da, da, da. Just little things like that that I've caught and my girlfriends have caught too, and they're like, wow, we appreciate that.
Listener/Caller
Aw.
Peter Rosenberg
For me.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. For me and for Ebro.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you.
Laura Rosenberg
I paid attention.
Peter Rosenberg
I was hoping more for me, but yeah. No, I appreciate it. No, I try. We still end up doing it to some degree. And, like, there is a. All women are different. Vary, but. But it seems like all men go through some certain. Yes. Some certain things that are. And, like, being a dad now has definitely turned the. Like, that. I did not. I have to say this, and I did not appreciate Ebro when he used to, like, come up here and bitch about, like, not feeling appreciated. And. And don't get me wrong, he sounded like an absolute unmitigated bitch. But I feel him. I feel him. Because there are days when you're just like, it does feel like dad has to do a lot. And don't get me wrong, mom does more. And because mom does more, it feels like it's hard to feel appreciated for what you do.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And you're like, mom does more at home. But you're like, I'm dad. I'm still out here doing a lot. I'm running around. I'm trying, but, you know, but every household is different. But just shout out to the dads, especially this weekend, guys, because let's be real, it's Mother's Day, so you're a bitch. And it's hard to figure out exactly what to do.
Laura Rosenberg
I know people. Ricardo asked me, what do you want? What do you want to do for Mother's Day? I'm like, I just want to hang out with y'. All. That's it?
Peter Rosenberg
That's all you want?
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, that's it. I just want to go to a nice restaurant and just spend it like a fun day. Like, he took me one year, we went to the Stardust Diner. Oh, yeah, the diner where all the, like, the people sing, the food was trash. But we had an amazing time.
Peter Rosenberg
And it was fun.
Laura Rosenberg
And it was fun. Like, Kenza could not believe that people are just standing up and singing. And we just had a great time. It was cheesy, corny, and we had a great time.
Peter Rosenberg
I wonder. I feel like I should. I feel like I should do two things. Feel like there should be some sort of meal thing or park thing or both. I got to check weather for this weekend. And then I'm thinking I should also maybe try to get her to a spa for a couple of hours.
Laura Rosenberg
You could do that. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe a combo of both.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. That's nice. Anyway. All right. Do you have another one?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Marion says, oh, we have some videos to play too.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, yeah, I want to watch them.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Marion says, hi, family Rosenberg. The vampires and sinners represent the cultural appropriation of white people. Ryan did not just throw vampires in the movie just because Smh and Peter. The quote, jews in Hollywood were not included in my thoughts when I made the comments. I referenced America strictly thinking about the good old boys down south, especially in that time slash region. I do not equate the two groups. Am I incorrect in not doing so? No, you're not. That sounds right. Listen, I get that you don't get it. Our backgrounds differ. I spent time with my families in the south and listened to the stories. The characters in the movie were very familiar because I watched the different portrayals, thought many of those family members and thought many of those family members and the represented culture. I've said more than I meant to. 61 year old tends to do that. Smile, please. Don't think I'm angry or dismissive of your viewpoint in any way. We're two beautiful human beings on this planet just trying to live happy and successful lives. Love to you, Ebro, and the wonderful Laura Stiles. She needs to be more spicy with y'.
Laura Rosenberg
All.
Peter Rosenberg
Fact. Thank you for that. I hear you. Totally. And I'm overdue. Maybe when I'm traveling this weekend, I'll watch Sinners again because I'm overdue to watch it a second time. What I always tried to say was, it's not that I disagree with you about what the vampires were intended to represent. It's that as someone who likes vampire movies, I couldn't help but sort of mix it into the way I view vampire movies.
Laura Rosenberg
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
And maybe I wasn't thinking enough about what was intended. I just took it. And to your point, and I think this is a hard thing, even for myself, who, at 46 years old and actively trying to know how to be an ally and someone who's always thinking about issues of race and treatment of black people in America, I still have my own experience and biases, so I still will go in a movie. And not. No matter how much I want to be thinking of it the way black folks would think of it, I still mean. And so those. They're just implicit. Have you seen that girl yet who I love in my algorithm who's like, I'm not just any white girl. I'm a cool white girl?
Laura Rosenberg
No, I have not.
Peter Rosenberg
She's so funny. It's, like, mocking. It's just like mocking white people.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And she's like, I know I'm not black, but I get it. She's so damn good. But anyways, as much as I want to be that person, we still have our shortcomings.
Laura Rosenberg
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Laura, should we watch a video?
Laura Rosenberg
You want to read? Yes. No, I want to watch a video. I'm excited for this. Send us more. Send us more. Ibrozenbergmail.com yo, what's up, y'?
Listener/Caller
All? Ebro, Laura, how y' all doing? Jonathan, Olympia, Tom, Water Washington, Big father. Y' all been listening. Plus now. Glad you're off the plantation. Just wanted to send you all the love, say a couple things. Number one, we need instructions for the coffee cup. Sounds ridiculous, but I want to put it in the dishwasher. But do I have to hand wash it? I want to keep the logo. Y' all gotta let me know.
Laura Rosenberg
I don't know hand washes, it's not that hard.
Listener/Caller
Love the new version of the show, but can we have, like, a celebrity step in by celebrity? We need DJ Castle, and that's who I miss the most. We need.
Laura Rosenberg
I know.
Listener/Caller
Cast one to set in or jump in. I haven't listened to the plantation since
Peter Rosenberg
y' all left, so how long is this? I can't watch this man in the sauna for that long.
Listener/Caller
How much longer in here? And lastly, Ebro. I know you've talked about the K Pop and how it's moving around out here. Blackpink is the go. Definitely check out blackpink. But I know you said Jazz is the R B fan, man. That Ruby album by Jenny, it's worth the spin for all y'. All. Okay? And then Rose's album, Rosie, fire, Fire. Y' all gotta check that out, so. All right, love y'. All. Keep doing what you're doing, please.
Peter Rosenberg
What a great message. And please put your shirt on.
Laura Rosenberg
I know. We appreciate you sending the video because I want to see you guys, but. Yeah, you guys, you caught me off guard. I was like, is he in a sauna?
Peter Rosenberg
He definitely was. Oh, he gave us a music rest.
Laura Rosenberg
I know, I know.
Peter Rosenberg
Who else we got over there on video?
Listener/Caller
What's up, family? Just wanted to send you guys some love.
Peter Rosenberg
Everyone's sweating in these videos.
Listener/Caller
You know, I had to follow you over here. I used to listen to you guys every morning on the way to school. And I would literally shut the door on my students when I would get to school because I was trying to finish listening to Yalls radio program. But now here, faithfully listen every day, watch every day. So thank you for what you do. I am a former career teacher. One of the things that drove me over out of the classroom were these parents. Parents for those of us who have decided not to have children. Please be mindful that we want to help you. We need to help you. A lot of these parents put so much pressure on themselves. They need to do everything perfect. They need to have everything in order. And it's like they take it as a. An affront in if you give them some objective advice. Now, obviously use your discernment. If somebody comes at you with unsolicited advice, that's one thing. But, you know, I have no. I did not birth your child. So if I'm giving you a little bit of advice, something that I've seen from your child, because I've spent the last, you know, several weeks with them for eight hours at a time. Please know that it's nothing personal that you are doing. We all have blind spots. We all have things that we can do better. That's just my little soapbox to stand on real quick again. I love you guys. I love the show. Keep doing what you're doing. Peace out.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, well, yes, you guys shout to all the teachers, man, you guys do so much work. And now as a parent dropping my kids off to school, I see the amount of work. I mean, I always knew. But, man, like, they really care for all these. Rosenberg, you're In a classroom with. With like 20 kids, sometimes 30, sometimes 40. That sounds like a nightmare to me.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no. It's insane. Are you serious?
Laura Rosenberg
And these people care for our children, and they do such an incredible job, and they're underpaid. So, yeah, the worst thing I will say, if your kid is sick, man, don't take your kid to school all snotty, spreading germs. Like, then you're risking the entire classroom and the teacher who's supposed to be there every day, but they don't get enough support and love. And I just want to say again, you know, here on this show, we love the teachers, so thank you. I know you're an ex teacher, but I appreciate your time. I appreciate your bid.
Peter Rosenberg
And, yeah, your bed is real. And I appreciate you as someone who's not connected to a child, yourself, your own child, wanting to do this for other people and their kids.
Laura Rosenberg
Yes. Yes. So shout out to you. All right. I have an interesting email I want to read.
Listener/Caller
Okay.
Laura Rosenberg
All right. Hey, Ebro. Laura Rosenberg. I've been a listener supporter since the late 2000s and immediately transitioned to your new brand since your first episode. A question sparked my interest because I recently was making a visit to a bakery far from where I live, but my guy decided to meet me. He was cycling from Long Island. I believe he may have cycled in the same group as Ebro a few times. And last summer, he accomplished the 100 miles up the Hudson Valley. Shout out to him.
Danny Funt
Wow.
Laura Rosenberg
All right. Anyways, to spare time, I went for a walk through the neighborhood. I usually try not to look or stare at people passing, but as I'm walking by, I see a baby carriage. I was looking up because the baby was so cute. But then the baby looked familiar. By the time I glanced up, the lady pushing the stroller was a faded face with black hair blowing. Also, it was super sunny out, so the glare of the sun was blocking. I did one of those look backs and thought to myself, was that Rosenberg's wife and baby Maya? I say all of this to ask, have any of your partners encountered thoughts of the show with your children present? I personally would have never said anything even if I had the opportunity. But number one, that's a little awkward for me, and two, out of respect. But would you like to discuss with the listeners, how do you guys feel about them? If you're out with your family, is it okay for people to walk up to you? You know, just let us know how you feel? Apologies if this was long, but I wanted to give the Full picture. Wishing you much, much success.
Peter Rosenberg
Where did you say. Where would you say where this was?
Laura Rosenberg
No, no, no, no, no.
Peter Rosenberg
Was it my wife and baby Maya?
Laura Rosenberg
I think she thinks it was baby Maya. And, you know. But anyway, so I've had this happen a couple times, and I'm. I'm. Listen, I'm always.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what Laura says, you better shut your white mouth.
Laura Rosenberg
I do not say that. I'm. Okay. The only thing that sometimes I feel a little weird about is when people want to take pictures with my kid.
Peter Rosenberg
They said that.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. Like, hey, can it. Can. Can my kid take a picture with your kid? And I'm like, like, I've said, yeah, it's cool. But I.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, because you figure it's fine because it's their kid.
Laura Rosenberg
Their kids, you know? But sometimes I'm just like. Or, like, if I'm taking a picture with somebody and I have Kenza with me, I say I'll hand her over to Ricardo so I can take a picture with somebody. Even though my child is public, I post her. Sometimes I just feel a little like, let's have a little, you know, with my child. You know, you can say hi. I'm not saying you can't acknowledge or anything, but I don't know. I don't know. Is it stupid? Because I post my child.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm very mixed on this, and, like, I'm still very confused on it, so I'm still deciding how I feel about all that stuff. But my wife, though, is public in her own way, so you could, Like, Natalie was a big deal in her world before she met me. So, like, you could be like, Ms. Hatton.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
She's like, that's not. Like, that's never happened. So. And no. And I'm fine saying hi. You know, if I had my baby, you know, I'd still. No, I'd still be fine. It just. It's situational.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Depends what the person with the. Obviously, you're someone who's, like, kind and polite because you're worried about this.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So it depends what the person acts like, you know, But I'm always okay
Laura Rosenberg
with you saying hi. You always say hi.
Peter Rosenberg
So. But the three of us are all in different situations, because the kind of people who approach Laura, obviously there's some. In the. In the Venn diagram, a bunch of them are the same. But then there's, like, me and Ebro have, like, these hip, hoppy people who could be approaching us in a way that, like, oh, yeah, is different and could be, like, a little Bit more fraught that maybe I'd be a little less into.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I've had weirdos too, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no, I'm sure.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I just mean they don't hate. Well, I guess maybe they could.
Laura Rosenberg
Sometimes I get hate by association.
Peter Rosenberg
True. But also, I'm mixed, even about, like, the showing of, like, the kid. Like, I look at all of our posting, and depending on the day, like, I'll see a random post from Ebro and be like, that's too much. Like, this is too much about Issa's life on your ig. And, like, Ebro's IG is big. It's bigger. Much bigger than either of our GS. And I'm like, yeah, I don't know. I'm still. And I'm saying that being honest, because I'm still working out. Like, my daughter's private.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
My wife has been like, no, she should be public. She's so cute. And I'm like, I don't need people to appreciate her cuteness.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, my God, you haven't. So I used to have my daughter's Instagram public, and I was like, why not? You know? And she's cute. And everybody was like, yes, yes, yes. And then one day, I started going through the people that followed her, and then I was like, yep, block, block, block, block, block, block, block.
Peter Rosenberg
Why?
Laura Rosenberg
Because they're random men. Why is this rando men following my toddler?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, like, it's. It is a real gender thing.
Laura Rosenberg
You know what I mean?
Peter Rosenberg
It's like, women following, like, I get it. You want to see cute kids. Do men really want to follow cute kids?
Laura Rosenberg
And then I've seen certain men that I was okay with because they're. I could tell they're family men. They're with their children in the. In the. In the profile. Pig. Their whole Instagram is about family. But when you're just like, this weirdo, I don't know that you could tell. Trust me. And I was like, yeah, you know what? After I went down the blocking, I was like, private.
Peter Rosenberg
But I think it's hard for Natalie because we post this amazing content on her page, and it gets like, 12 likes. And she's like, but this content's so good.
Laura Rosenberg
I know.
Peter Rosenberg
And I'm like, for sure, she's the best. But, like, we'll figure that out.
Laura Rosenberg
But mind you, I post my daughter on my feed, and I have a bunch of weird men following me, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
That's, of course.
Laura Rosenberg
So, you know, I'm still trying to figure out where I feel, you know, okay with it, but. Yeah, but always say, hi. I'm okay with that.
Peter Rosenberg
You have less people. I at least have less people following me than previously because yesterday I ran after our show randomly. I looked, and I'd lost 4,000 followers on Instagram.
Laura Rosenberg
Really?
Peter Rosenberg
I guess there was some sort of purge.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, sometimes they.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but, like, I've been. I've been fighting and scrapping to get every. Like, it's hard out here. And I just lost 4,000. You're like, oh, I made it to this number. Now it's 4,000 less. That's trash.
Laura Rosenberg
I know, I know, I know. Mine's just kind of been stuck in the same place.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's. It's. It's. That's the funniest thing. I love when Ebro occasionally. That's why IG doesn't grow me. I'm like, my man, your account grew a lot.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll show you what it looks like to not have an account grow. It ain't like that. We love you guys. We hope you enjoyed Family Friday. I will be doing Backlash this weekend for all my WWE fans. The Countdown show starts at 4:00, clock on YouTube and the ESPN app, and the Backlash PLE starts at 6:00'. Clock.
Laura Rosenberg
Nice.
Peter Rosenberg
That is in Tampa. And then I'll be back for Mother's Day on Sunday.
Laura Rosenberg
I love that. Happy Mother's Day.
Peter Rosenberg
All the moms.
Laura Rosenberg
All the moms. All the mom figures.
Peter Rosenberg
To my mom and to Natalie and to you, Laura. Happy Mother's Day. Love you all very greatly. By the way, my dad loves you so much. He arbitrarily was just like, I love Laura Styles. What an amazing. She's amazing. I love Laura Stiles.
Laura Rosenberg
So sweet.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he felt the same way. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Hey, Ron, make sure you do something nice for your lady.
Laura Rosenberg
Got to you.
Peter Rosenberg
Had her back from the hospital 12 hours later cooking you dinner.
Laura Rosenberg
Oh, my God.
Peter Rosenberg
We never seen anything like this.
Laura Rosenberg
You better get in that kitchen.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you better get her something she needs, Ron.
Laura Rosenberg
Something special, though. Happy Mother's Day.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, and I need the drop next week. You guys remember. Are you a fan of Carlito's Way?
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
There's this character Sasso.
Laura Rosenberg
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Remember that?
Laura Rosenberg
Yes, yes. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And he's like, Sasso. They call him Ron. Need that.
Laura Rosenberg
We need that. We need that. All right, bye, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Just don't call it a podcast.
