You're listening to the Encounter Podcast featuring the latest messages and teachings by David Diga Hernandez. Don't forget to subscribe the Encounter Podcast Encounter the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit Once you've experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit, and I mean really, truly have had an encounter with the glory of God, it basically ruins you for anything less. You don't want the counterfeit. You don't want what's cheap. You don't want what comes easy. You'll settle for nothing less than the true presence of the Holy Spirit. And here's the good news. This may not sound balanced, but I don't care. You can have encounters with the Holy Spirit every single day of your life. You don't have to settle for less. And I'm going to show you how to do that. The first thing you need to do is is walk in an awareness of his Presence. In Colossians 3, 23 and 24, we read this and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as to the Lord and not unto men, knowing that of the Lord, ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ. In other words, everything that you do should be done with the Lord in mind. Everything that you apply should be applied knowing that it's unto God's glory. Often we in our minds restrict the moving of the Holy Spirit to just a revival meeting or a special service. Or maybe during the worship portion of a Sunday morning gathering. You can have encounters with the Holy Spirit in your room. You can have encounters with the Holy Spirit while you're enjoying a meal. You can have an encounter with the Holy Spirit at school. In fact, this ministry began with with me praying for the sick and ministering to students at school. I can recall instances where the power of the Holy Ghost moved in my classroom where people would weep in the power of the Holy Spirit on our lunch break as we pray right there at the school grounds. So there's no limit to where the Holy Spirit can move. The Holy Spirit can be encountered while you're driving to work. The Holy Spirit can be encountered while you're at work. He can speak to you. He can show you visions. You can sense his presence. And I'm not just talking about the faith of knowing that his presence is there. That's important. But I'm talking about the manifestation of his presence to where you can sense Him. I've had moments with the Holy Spirit where I felt like I was pressing into his presence. That's wonderful. There's the seeking of the Lord, but then I've had moments where I felt like the Holy Spirit pressing onto the room where the love of God, the glory of God, the power of the Holy Spirit was so glorious, so intense, so beautiful, that it was almost like a smoke that filled the atmosphere where you felt like you almost couldn't breathe. Not in an unpleasant way, but the air was thick and heavy and the atmosphere was electrified with the presence of the Holy Spirit. Those are encounters that you treasure. Those are encounters that you hunger for. Not that feeling things is important, but anything that has to do with God, I want it. Anything that has to do with the Holy Spirit, I'm open. Anything that has to do with his nature, I want to conform to it. Live a life that says, welcome Holy Spirit by living aware of his presence, aware that he is near. You see, Psalm139.7 tells us that the Holy Spirit is everywhere. So the Holy Spirit is omnipresent. We understand that. But when we say things like welcome Holy Spirit or Come Holy Spirit, or Move Holy Spirit, we're not saying that the Holy Spirit literally shows up because he's everywhere at all times. Rather, we're talking about the influence of the Holy Spirit, the increase of the influence of the Holy Spirit. And as you live a life aware of that presence abiding near you, yes, you're in his omnipresence, and his omnipresence is his awareness of you. But his manifested presence, that is your awareness of Him. Every aspect of your being was designed to respond to God. You can fill him in your emotions, you can feel him on your physical being, you can sense him in your spirit, you can think about him in your mind. And that's part of the discipline of awareness of the presence of the Holy Spirit is choosing to keep the Holy Spirit in your mind, is choosing to think about his nature, choosing to think about his instructions, choosing to be aware of the fact that he's not distant, he's not off a million miles away. He's right there with you. That's why I often tell you he's in the room with you. He's looking at you right now. He's listening to you right now. If you put your hand in front of your face, he's closer than your hand. He's right there with you. And. And when you live in the awareness of the manifestation of his presence, when you live in the awareness of the fact that he doesn't leave you or forsake you, he doesn't abandon you just because you make a mistake. He's right there, right now that brings you into that awareness. And that awareness of his presence opens you to daily encounters with the Holy Spirit. He's not just looking for a visitation, he's looking for a habitation. You won't have to go chasing experiences with when you live in one. You won't have to go chasing encounters when you live in daily encounter with the Holy Spirit. Number two, you need to reverence Him. So there's the awareness of his presence, and then there's a reverence for his presence. Awareness of. Reverence for awareness of is me being aware that he's near, me thinking about his nature, me. Me having him on my mind, no matter what it is that I'm doing. But reverence is obedience. You often hear people say, well, I'm sensitive to the Holy Spirit. I can sense Him. I can hear him. And that's wonderful. But do you obey Him? Do you heed his instruction? Do you submit to what he's asking you to do? Reverence for the Holy Spirit says, welcome, Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:30. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Don't grieve the Holy Spirit. Think about that. That means the Holy Spirit has feelings so that when you do something you know you're not supposed to do, it hurts Him. And when you don't do something you know that the Holy Spirit is asking you to do, that hurts him too. Don't grieve him. Let your life be comforting to the presence of the Holy Spirit. You are his dwelling place. Does he feel at home in you? Does he feel at home in your life? The atmosphere that you set with your attitude, with your actions, with your thoughts. Does that atmosphere honor the Holy Spirit, or does it grieve Him? Here's the good news, though. The Holy Spirit loves us enough, yes, to be grieved by us. But that means he loves us enough to be pleased by us. You may have experienced this before. And if you've been in prayer or you've been studying the Word, or devoting your life to him, then maybe you've had moments like this to where maybe you're going to pray and suddenly the phone will start ringing. And you go to pick up that phone, but instead of answering it, you decline it. Because you say, holy Spirit, I'm with you right now. You could actually sense the joy of the Spirit. Or maybe you're. You're wanting to say something, someone's really making you mad, and you really want to get back at them and. Or you want to post something online. And you go to say it, you go to post it. And then there's that moment where there's. That the Holy Spirit speaks and you don't want to grieve him, so you say, okay, Holy Spirit, I will refrain. And the moment that you refrain, there's like this holy relief that rushes over you. That's the joy of the Holy Spirit. He's pleased with that action. Or maybe the Holy Spirit is telling you to witness to someone or to speak a prophetic word or to exercise a spiritual gift in some way. And you're wrestling with yourself and you're saying, well, I don't know if I want to do that. And there's this back and forth in your mind of questioning whether or not it's God or. Or questioning whether or not you have the proper motives. And finally you just say, okay, Holy Spirit, your hand is weighing heavily upon me. I'm going to obey you. And you obey him. And suddenly you sense that joy, that relief. It's because you obeyed him and you pleased him instead of grieving him. There has to be this reverence for his presence. What would you change about the way you live if God constantly stood before you in physical form, like to where you could see him with your physical eyes? What would change? Well, that reverence toward his presence is what needs to be applied to your life. Whether you can see him physically or not, because the Holy Spirit is there. So you want to have daily encounters with the Holy Spirit. Number one, it's awareness of his presence. And in being aware of him, you're not going to miss him in the details. Number two, it's reverence for his presence that is thinking and acting according to his nature and his word that you might not offend or hurt him. The third thing is confidence. That is confidence that he's with you. Now, this confidence is different than awareness. Awareness of his presence is being aware that he's there. But confidence in his presence is awareness that he's there for you, that he's not just present, but that he's for you. That he lives within you, that he intends to do good things in your life. That confidence in knowing that you've been accepted by him, not just that he's helping, hanging around, or floating in the atmosphere around you, but rather that the Holy Spirit is active in your life, that you are his child, that you belong to him, that you truly are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Listen, I pray you get this in your spirit. I want you to say this out loud. Say I am a carrier of his glory. Think about that. You're a carrier of his glory. This means that his presence and your presence have become one. First Corinthians 6:17 says, he that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. Where you step, the Holy Spirit steps. When you speak, the Holy Spirit will give you the words to say. When you pray, the Holy Spirit will back you. Watch this. First John 5:14. We read, and we are confident that he hears us. Whenever we ask for anything that pleases him, that is, he backs those prayers. Why? Because he dwells in you. Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost? Romans 8:11. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead dwells in you. The Holy Spirit lives in you. And you need to live with the confidence of that. Not just a distant, abstract idea where you're saying to yourself, yeah, I kind of am aware of this idea. The Holy Spirit's near me. Yeah. The Holy Spirit is everywhere. Yes. The Holy Spirit is present. Yes. Everything I do can be done unto the Lord. Yes. I need to be reverent toward His Word. But recognizing that he is actively with you, that he is for you, that he is working in your life, that he is influencing the world around you through your life and obedience, awareness of his presence. When you walk into rooms, the Holy Spirit goes with you. When you walk into rooms, the atmosphere changes. Whether you see it or not or feel it or not. In the spirit, the atmosphere changes. When you walk into rooms, demons start to tremble. When you walk into rooms, sickness starts to lose its hold. Why? Because you carry the presence of God. Not searching for an encounter, becoming an encounter where? Now you know that the presence of the Holy Ghost rests on you in a manifested way. And that when people come into contact you, they'll be able to sense the love of God, the peace of God, the joy of the Spirit, the power of the Holy Ghost. This is what rests in you. But there has to be this confidence. Because. Because faith and doubt conflict with one another. Think about the man whose son was demon possessed. And that man had gone to Jesus's disciples. Jesus's disciples could not drive this demon out of this man's son. And so when Jesus comes on the scene, the man tells him, lord, if you can do this, please do it. And he says, what do you mean, if I can? Anything's possible to those who believe. And the man replies, lord, I believe, but help my unbelief. So, yes, it's true that sometimes there's a little bit of doubt inside of us. But I'm saying we mustn't allow that doubt to influence us to the point where there's no room for faith. Don't allow doubt to dominate. Don't allow doubt to become the lens through which you see everything. Instead, see everything through the eyes of faith. Recognizing that the Holy Spirit is there. Believing that his presence abides with you even after you've made a mistake. Even if you're not doing the best performance in prayer. Even if you're not doing the best performance in. In. Study of the Word doesn't even depend on you. It depends on his grace. Confidence that the Holy Spirit dwells in you. Confidence to cry Abba Father. Confidence to walk aware that the Holy Spirit is not just around me. The Holy Spirit dwells in me and he's for me, and he's working on my behalf. So far we've looked at awareness that is thinking of him, reverence that is acting with him in mind, obeying him. Confidence, resisting the doubt that says that he's not for you, but instead embracing faith and saying, he's not only for me, he dwells in me and his influence is touching my life and touching others through my life. And here, this is the next key. This is intention. And this is going to be especially challenging, especially in this generation. Intention. Two simple words. They're not going to sound very spiritual, but you need to receive them. You ready? Slow down. Think about the fact that everything we have these days is instant. We have fast food, we have fast cars, we have fast shipping. We have entertainment on demand. We even have AI to where if we want to understand a concept or ask a question, we just enter it into the search and all of a sudden we have all the information that we need. People don't even have to do much research anymore because these AI things will do the research for them. But here's what hasn't changed the dynamics of the spiritual realm. Here's what hasn't changed the ancient path into awareness of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Here's what hasn't changed the discipline of prayer, the discipline of studying the word intention. Slow down. John 5:19. So Jesus explained, I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. That is, Jesus lived as a reflection of the Father. Go look in the mirror and try to outpace your reflection. First of all, it'd be kind of scary if your reflection actually lagged behind. But think about the fact that you can't outpace your reflection. It copies you exactly. Jesus was a reflection of the Father. He was that light reflection that did exactly as he saw His Father doing. He didn't jump ahead of God's will. He didn't lag behind God's will. He walked the pace of grace. He flowed with the Holy Spirit. He didn't fight him and he didn't try to force Him. Some of us, we do that. We, we fight the Holy Spirit because He's asking us to do something that we don't want to do, or at least not in the time that we want to do it. We say, later, Holy Spirit, I'll do it. And then we try to force the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit is saying, wait, we're saying, no, we want it now, now, now. Don't force fight him, that is, resist him. Don't force him. That is, try to rush him. Instead, float with him. Be that reflection. Just as Jesus was a reflection of the Father or is a reflection of the Father, so we should be a reflection of the Son. And we do that by walking with the Holy Spirit. But you're not going to be able to walk with the Holy Spirit if your life is too fast paced. Worry and hurry go hand in hand. People who are hurried are usually worried and people who are hurried are usually mean. It's very difficult to be rushed and to be kind. It's very difficult to be at peace and to be rushed. It's very difficult to walk in the awareness of the Holy Spirit's presence. It's very difficult to host him in a way that's meaningful. It's very difficult to live under the influence of his power. And if you are constantly in a rush. And I'm not just talking about inaction because some people just sit there all day scrolling through social media. I'm not just talking about physically moving quickly through the world. I'm also talking about your mind, where the mind is no longer disciplined to meditate. Think about this. How, how social media today, I'm all for social media as a tool for the kingdom, obviously, but. But I think what's happening is we are seeing this shift to where people are so quickly moving from subject to subject to subject. I mean, think about just scrolling through your feed. You could see something that makes you laugh. In the very next instant you're crying, in the very next instant you're angry. And in the very next instant, maybe you're seeing something violent that comes across your screen. And you go through all these emotions so quickly, you never settle on one for long enough to really let it settle deep. And in the same way we're trying to rush past the spiritual, we're trying to move on quickly with it because we've had our mind so undisciplined where we can't meditate the mind anymore, we can't get it to focus on one thing for too long, and then it goes off to the next thing. And it's almost like mentally painful to try to hold that thought for an extended period of time. We need constant stimulation of the mind, and that's dangerous. It's dangerous. I mean, how can you be mindful of the Holy Spirit if you're always filling your mind with the things of the world? And I'm not just talking about things that are sinful. Look, you can call me legalistic. I know some people have an issue with this, but. But I'm trying to help you here with, with. In terms of encountering the Holy Spirit, you're filling your mind with things. Maybe they're not blatantly evil or blatantly sinful, but it's just junk. It's just the things of the world. And, and how are we supposed to have our minds filled with the influence of the Holy Spirit if we are filling our minds with distractions and junk? I'm not saying you can't have entertainment. I'm not saying you can't listen to music. I'm not saying you can't enjoy some time with your friends where you're joking around. That's all fine, but I'm saying that. That your life as a whole, you've got to slow down. You've got to slow down. I believe the Holy Spirit brought you to this message because I'm telling you as your brother in Christ, you've got to slow down. Things are just going to get faster and faster and faster until there's a wreck. Slow down. Be intentional. Take moment by moment. You know, in those in those moments of pause, that's where the Holy Spirit speaks. Often the Holy Spirit speaks in split seconds. And we're so quick rushing past his voice that we don't hear his instruction. And so we do something foolish or unnecessary or wasteful. Awareness of his presence, reverence for his presence, confidence in his presence and intention for focused on his presence. Thank you for listening to the Encounter Podcast.
