The prophetic is for today. And I want to give you biblical signs that you may be prophetic. First, let's take a look at Revelation 19:10. And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, see thou do it not. I am thy fellow servant and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus, worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. So it's important that we lay a foundation first. Before we get into these signs. I want you to understand that Jesus is the center of prophecy. Not the prophet, not the gift, not the wow factor, but Jesus. And then in 2 Peter chapter 1, verses 19 through 21, we read we have also a more sure word of prophecy. Whereunto ye do well that ye take heed as unto a light that shineth in a dark place until the day dawn and the day star rise in your hearts. Knowing this verse that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. So the Holy Spirit is that source. The Holy Spirit is the voice behind the voice, if you will, of prophecy. And we have a more sure word of prophecy. So Jesus is the central figure of prophecy. He's the purpose of prophecy. Prophecy is to point to Jesus prophecy. Prophecy is to glorify Jesus. Prophecy is to give us a clearer look at Jesus. And then we see that there is a more sure word of prophecy. So we rely and we base our lives not on the gift or the gifted. We base our lives on the Word. The Word is that more sure word of prophecy. So this has to act as your foundation. Now, finally, let's take a look at what prophecy does 1 Corinthians 14:3 says, but he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification and exhortation and comfort. Those are the purposes of prophecy. Edification, which can involve correction. Exhortation, that's encouragement and comfort, that brings peace to the heart in times of suffering. Now the first sign that you may be prophetic, number one is discernment. First Corinthians 12:10 says to another the working of miracles. And this is listing the spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit to another prophecy to another discerning of spirits. Now remember that being judgmental, suspicious or negative or critical, or cynical is not prophecy. How many times has someone said, I don't know, I don't like that person, my discernment's going off. What they really mean is I personally have an issue with that individual. So the gift of discernment isn't just the gift of criticism. The gift of discernment isn't just saying, I don't like this person, I don't like that person. The gift of discernment isn't just suspicion. If you're suspicious of everyone and someone ends up betraying you, then of course you're going to be able to say, ah, I discerned it. But that's not impressive when you're suspicious of everyone. No, discernment is not suspicion. Discernment is a spirit led and clear instruction that's biblically based that warns you against other spirits. There's the spirit of God, there's the spirit of man, there's the demonic spirits. And therefore discernment is being able to distinguish between the source of the power. Discernment is the ability to distinguish between the sources of the message. Discernment is the ability to distinguish the that source for any expression, whether it be in word or indeed. And this helps you to be guarded. Now, if you experience this where, where you can, you can see things before others can. Again, we've already clarified. I'm not just talking about suspicion. I'm talking about a genuine gift from God where you notice that, that you get along with mostly everybody. But every so often you, you kind of sense something in someone and, and something just doesn't feel right. It's off and, and you know it's demonic. It's not some vague idea of, I don't know why I feel that way. You know it or you know they have bad intentions. Well, that is discernment. And that could be a sign that you're prophetic. The second sign you should be looking out for is words of knowledge. Now in 1 Corinthians 12, 7, 8, we read, but the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the spirit the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge by the same spirit. Think about the woman at the well. In John chapter 4, Jesus has a conversation with her. He reveals details about her life. She knows right then and there that he's a prophet or that he's prophetic. He was more than a prophet, of course. But this gift has to do with divine inspiration and the divine acquisition of knowledge regarding the present and the past. So if you're able to know things and you don't know how you know them, you just knew that was their birthday, you just knew that was their name. You just knew they had a certain sickness. But that's more than just knowing. That's more than just intuition. Don't just dismiss that. Don't overlook that. Don't say, well, sometimes I just know things about people and it's just so random. No, take a very good look at that because it could be a sign that you're prophetic. Same portion of Scripture we'll use for number three. That is words of wisdom. Now, just like the word of knowledge is the supernatural acquisition of knowledge, so the word of wisdom is the supernatural acquisition of wisdom. In other words, divine reasoning, God's wisdom flowing through you. Others have a hard time figuring it out. You take one look at the situation and everything clicks. Others are confused and frustrated. You pray about it a little bit, and all of a sudden you have a solution that fixes the problem and everything moves with ease after that. That is the word of wisdom. Number four. Prophetic Dreams and Visions. Many of you are dreamers. And by that I don't just mean that you have big goals. I mean that you have dreams and then in the morning you wake up to find that something in your dream had come true. Or like maybe you dream about a person. You wake up and you find you have a text from them and you haven't heard from them in years. Or you dream about a certain incident, or you dream about a certain person betraying someone, or you dream about a certain illness coming into a family. And you just know these things from your dreams. And then in visions, it's the same way I would say a dream is like a night vision and then a vision is like a day dream. They're very similar to one another in their nature. In job 33, 14 and 15, we read for God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds. Well, this is interesting because we see here that, that the Lord speaks again and again. How many times have we just dismissed our dreams or the visions? I want to say this again because I think it's important you get it. A dream is like a vision in the night. A vision is like a daydream. And on that, let's take a look at this verse in regards to visions. Acts 18:9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision. Do not be afraid. Keep on speaking, do not be silent. So here we see that a vision is a New Testament concept. You see, you might find those moments where you're kind of just. And I hate to put it in this type of terminology, but I think it'll help you understand it better, where you're just kind of zoned out, where you're aware that you're here, but you're not really seeing the world around you, the physical world. You're more so focused on what you're seeing in your mind. You're daydreaming, you're spacing out a little bit. You're zoned out. And that right there in those moments, sometimes you will get divine visions. I know that I've received outlines for sermons in this way. I know that I've received strategy for ministry in this way, where I'll see just the direction, in small general directions for certain problems I'm having. And the Lord will just help me work it out in a vision. And so I don't want you to be dismissive of this. Now remember, we have the more sure word of prophecy. That's the word of God. But that doesn't mean we can just dismiss this expression of the Holy Spirit's voice, which is that he speaks through dreams and visions. Number five is foresight. In Mark 8:31, we read, he then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. So here Jesus is able to foresee what's going to happen. So the word of wisdom has to do with the situation or navigating a problem. The word of knowledge has to do with the past and the present. Prophecy has to do with the future. And so you're able to get these impressions from the Holy Spirit about things that are coming and not just maybe directly surrounding your circumstances. Sometimes it's family members, sometimes it's the church in general, sometimes it's the city. Sometimes you might get a prophetic impression regarding a nation or the world where you know something's coming and then something big hits the national scene. Number six, Insight into minds and hearts. Let me clarify this here. I'm not saying that we as believers can read minds, but I am saying that the Holy Spirit can read minds and we as believers can hear from the Holy Spirit. So watch this now. Matthew 12:25. Jesus knew their thoughts and replied, any kingdom divided by civil war is doomed. A town or family splintered by feuding will fall apart. So there. Jesus knew what they were thinking. Now this actually applies to the New Testament church as well. 1 Corinthians 14:24 and 25. But if all of you are prophesying and unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say. As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed and they will fall to their knees and and worship God, declaring, God is truly here among you. So one of the aspects of prophecy is that insight into minds and hearts. Not saying that we can just do this on command, but the Holy Spirit will give you glimpses of this. He'll. He'll open up the spiritual realm and cause you to be able to hear and to see. Number seven Passion for God's Word Prophetic people love God's Word. It is their foundation, and they're willing to submit their lives to the Word. Often you'll see people who claim to be prophetic ignore the Word. There's no discipline in the Word. They say things that contradict the Word. They get things from their own minds and hearts. They prophesy from their imagination. Look at this. Jeremiah 28:10. This is a prophet speaking now. But when I speak, the words burst out violence and destruction. I shout so. These messages from the Lord have made me a household joke. But if I say I'll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, His Word burns in my heart like a fire. It's like a fire in my bones. I am worn out, trying to hold it in. I can't do it. I have heard the many rumors about me. They call me the man who lives in terror. They threaten, if you say anything, we'll report it. Even my old friends are watching me, waiting for a fatal slip. He will trap himself, they say, and then we will get our revenge on him. Here Jeremiah is saying that despite the fact that he's somewhat humiliated or in the minds of people, he's a humiliation that he can't help but speak these words. He can't help but love God's Word. He can't help but declare the truth of that word. That's how true prophets are. And as a true prophet who submits to the Word, can I. I'm going to say this now. True prophets can admit when they get it wrong. If you get someone who's arrogant, prideful, I know the voice of the Holy Spirit. I never miss it. God always speaks to me. You're wrong, I'm right. That's a red flag. Because true prophets are humble. True prophets recognize there's a more sure word. And if there is a more sure word, then by default there is a less sure word that should be questioned and measured and weighed and discerned and filtered through the Word of God. And so true prophets have a passion for the word of God. Number eight, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. In Ephesians 4:30, we read and do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. So the Holy Spirit grieves when we disobey. Prophetic people can sense this grieving, not just with their own mistakes, but they can sense the grieving of the Spirit even around other people. Where you hear someone gossip and it grieves you. You see someone compromising and it grieves you not in a judgmental way to where you think you're better than them, but in a way where your heart breaks for them and your heart breaks for the Holy Spirit. You're sensitive to the Spirit. You're just very aware of the activity around you and you just know something more is happening. Something beyond this world is at play. And I can't quite see it with my natural eyes, but I know something is happening in the world beyond that sensitivity to the spirit. That sensitivity to the spirit realm. Number nine, that is boldness. I'm not talking about people who say, I'm always right, you're always wrong. I know the voice of God. I never miss it. That's arrogance. That's immaturity. I'm talking about true boldness. That when you've received the Word from God in humility and love, you can deliver that with the fierceness of heaven and not back down and not worry about what other people think and not be concerned about being labeled as weird. That boldness is a sign of being prophetic.
