Welcome to Talk the Dog, the show where we find a bone to pick and a take to give. These are not hot takes. These is dog takes. Can I talk that dog? Let's shut up and grab some tape.
Christian
All right. There's a lot of moving parts already to start the local hour as Brooks leaves the room, Christian enters the room. And now the camera is properly placed on me as we welcome us. Oh, yes, us. My apologies. I've been used to the last two shows that we've done where it was just me. My apologies.
Jonathan
No I never got used to the. The month and a half of shows where you were gone.
Christian
Hey, I wouldn't blame you even if you did. But anyways, welcome into the local hour. We're gonna do a couple of things. Hey, there was a scrimmage this past weekend. We're going to be able to talk some notes on that. Most importantly, when Brooks gets in here, we will be able to talk about that. One of Georgia's recruits in the 2027 class has a high school home now, just prior to the season kicking off, that would be one Colton Usmeyer. He found a new high school team to play for this season. Jonah Aguero spoke about the reason why he transferred out of Georgia and ultimately ended up with the Ole Miss Rebels. And we might also preview the Alabama game right here today in the month of August.
Brooks Austin
Oh, we gonna.
Jonathan
We gonna g ner.
Brooks Austin
We gonna. Where do y' all want to start? You want to start with the news? I want to start by making sure they hit that thumbs up button like and subscribe rate reviewing. Let's start with that. Good stuff. Let's start with the news. You mentioned it, Colton. USM has a new high school football home. For those of you who don't remember, Texas high school football deemed him him ineligible because he transferred from one high school to the other. And apparently that's like against the law in high school football in the state of Texas. Basically freedom of movement everywhere else you go except for Alabama and Texas. Alabama and Texas, they will make you sit out for a year. That's not the craziest thing that I've seen. And I want to get this take off right now in the local hour. There is a high school football program, high school athletics administration program in the state of Georgia that is now charging admission for media members to cover their. Their teams. What?
Christian
So did you see the update, though, that they posted?
Jonathan
What?
Brooks Austin
It wasn't true? No, no, no, it's true.
Christian
They posted it. But the update was like, for people that work for legitimate companies, this isn't for you. Like, you don't have to worry. This is.
Brooks Austin
I got a. I got a camera and I'm just doing Instagram reels for a player.
Christian
Yes.
Brooks Austin
Okay.
Christian
That's what they're trying to do.
Brooks Austin
That's what that's for.
Christian
Yes. They put in the message this is all about.
Brooks Austin
I'm glad you said that because I was about to crap down someone's throat.
Christian
I was ready with you too. When I first saw that on Twitter today, I was like, there's no Way, this is a real thing. But that they cleared up the air a little bit, saying, like, no, no, no, that's not what we're doing.
Brooks Austin
Chad saying, sounds like Buford or Grayson or Carroll. No, none of those.
Christian
No.
Brooks Austin
It was a program that in my eight years of doing this, I've been to once. Once. Because they don't have dudes like that normally. Even though. Oh, what was. I don't want to give it away.
Christian
What was.
Brooks Austin
Old buddy with the neck roll from Clemson that constantly got targeting penalties.
Christian
Oh, Skolsky, Scolski.
Brooks Austin
That was the last great player from this place. All right. But I'm glad to hear that it was not that. Okay, that's good to know. All right. Colton Usmeyer. Archbishop Rummel, transferring to New Orleans High school football. This is where his dad's obviously the offensive coordinator at New Orleans or for the Saints. I think it's just good news that we're actually playing ball.
Christian
Yes.
Brooks Austin
I thought there for a minute we were going to have to basically sit out or reclassify, and that would have been bad news.
Jonathan
I mean, that would do so much damage to your development, too, because, like, senior year, if you're going to Georgia to play quarterback, senior year is kind of the last year you're going to play football for, you know, at least two years. Unless, like, you fall into a Jake Fromm situation, which I believe that's the last true freshman start for Georgia. And that was going on a decade ago now.
Christian
Yeah, the last one. Yes, that's correct.
Jonathan
Yeah. So, I mean, it. You're gonna. You're not gonna play a lot of football when you get to Georgia at first. So playing senior year does a lot for you.
Christian
Yeah. So good news that he's going to be playing high school football for sure.
Brooks Austin
You wanna hear bad news?
Jonathan
No, don't say it.
Brooks Austin
I didn't prepare y' all for this. No, don't say it's already started.
Jonathan
What?
Brooks Austin
The Jaden Wade machine.
Jonathan
Oh, what already started? That's not news. No, that's more just like.
Brooks Austin
I was surprised it was this long to get the article of. Yeah. Basically everybody's trying to flip him.
Christian
No surprise.
Brooks Austin
Everybody's trying to get him.
Christian
No doubt.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. That's insane.
Jonathan
This is the.
Christian
This is the equivalent of when the article was put out by Steve Wilt Fong about Miami interested in Keemon Spell. Yeah, no, duh. I'm sure Miami is very interested in the top running back, the five star that is currently committed to Georgia. I'm sure that they are still talking to him communicating to him and saying, hey, we like you, we want you to play here. Yeah. I'm sure there's a lot of schools that are like five star. Jaden Wade, we like him a lot. We want him to play for us. So yeah, you're gonna battle this until the very end.
Brooks Austin
This is like that. Your father doesn't watch the show when you're not here.
Jonathan
Oh, he doesn't?
Brooks Austin
Yeah, he just asked are we still doing diddy counter dang. It's like, hey man, we did it last week.
Christian
You know what respect show up for your son. I respect.
Brooks Austin
Hey, it's respect. That's respect. So.
Christian
But hey, as long as he still
Brooks Austin
hits the like button, he's not, he's not an everyday. He's. He must not be a sicko. He's just sicko for his own kid. Which is great. It's great. We love a supportive father. We love supportive parents around here.
Christian
Yes.
Brooks Austin
Just we, we would like some of that support from your father is all I'm saying.
Jonathan
Oh, you know, we'll see. But now this, this Jaden Wade news is the equivalent of like wrecking your bike and your, your ankle is twisted all the way around. And then the doctor comes like, I have bad news. You've broken your ankles.
Brooks Austin
Like brother.
Jonathan
I knew that. Thank you.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, I rolled an ankle one time so bad that the doctor, it was a high ankle sprain and the doctor was like, you'd have been better off snapping it in half, honestly.
Jonathan
Yeah, sprains, ankles sucked.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. High ankle sprains are gnarly. But yeah, no, this is the like you mentioned the equivalent of the foots facing upward and I'm laying on the ground and the dot coming out there and going, oh, looks like it's broke. Oh, shocker. Everybody wants to potentially sign Jade Wade.
Jonathan
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
He is by far and away in my opinion the best quarterback in the 2028 class. So.
Christian
Yeah. The six four quarterback that runs a four. Four people are interested.
Brooks Austin
That's played at IMG for three years. He's a dude.
Christian
Can't believe shocked.
Jonathan
He's the most hyped recruit that quarterback they've had since Justin Fields.
Brooks Austin
Now as a commitment.
Christian
Yeah, well, I mean since last year.
Brooks Austin
Unless you want to count Rayola or Curtis or. Yeah. Jared Curtis.
Christian
I mean, gosh, there's Matthew Stafford.
Jonathan
Comps. Yeah. No, I thrown around. Oh man. I guess, I guess those guys didn't. I'm thinking you guys that ended up going to Georgia.
Christian
Okay. Yeah. Then yes.
Brooks Austin
Oh, well, we ain't there Yet.
Jonathan
No, I know. I know.
Brooks Austin
Hold on for dear life. I think this is going to be the. The toughest battle of your recruiting life. I think one thing that will make this a little bit easier is if for some reason the Safe College Sports act is passed, which I don't know if it's gonna. If we continue on this. No. No salary cap. No. No dollar amount is too much. You can give anybody what you want as long as you got a rich booster. This one is going to be an absolute war. All right, so buckle up and get ready for that one. You want to read this Jono Aguero quote?
Christian
Yeah.
Jonathan
So Jonah Guerro was basically, you know, giving an interview initially talking about Trinidad Chambliss and how great quarterback he is, which is valid. And in that he kind of revealed, he was asked about, you know, what did Ole Miss do to kind of win you over and convince them as to that they were the right school for you. And his quote was, if you're a Georgia fan may be interesting. So the quote is, I feel like Ole Miss, they made it really easy. I didn't really have to think about it too much in the process because I feel so welcome here. I feel like they're going to use me how I am supposed to be used. Now, if you're a Georgia fan, you can read that, as he said in the shot at Georgia coaches that they didn't use him the right way, which I don't know if he's necessarily doing that.
Brooks Austin
Go ahead, Jonathan. I think I got the reality on this situation so well.
Christian
I was going to say, like, is that him saying he wants to play deep safety now? Like, is that what he's asking?
Brooks Austin
Because he played Star Georgia, playing the nickel there, too.
Christian
Yeah. So, I mean, I think this is kind of just the generic response that you get from guys that transfer. Like, typically, what they're going to say is, I know. I have confidence that they're going to use me the way that I want to be used. Like, you get it from edge rushers that transfer out from Georgia. You're getting it from Jonelle here. Like, I don't think it's necessarily any shade all that much as much as it is just like a nice, easy way of putting why you're not there.
Jonathan
Yeah. And I think, like, this is obviously something that you can. It happens all the time in life. Complimenting where you're at in your current position is not a slight or an undercutting. It's not an automatic slighter undercut to your last position if you go, if Lane Kiffin goes to LSU and says, I love this job so much, I'm so happy here. That doesn't mean he hated Ole Miss as me. He was happy there or miserable there. It just means he's very happy with where he currently is. So I don't think that this should be someone or something that people look into and say, oh, you know, Jonelle Aguero sending shots at UGA coaches. I think he's just expressing that he's happy with where he is right now.
Brooks Austin
I think the reality of the situation is this. Somewhere around December last year, Jonah Aguero's agent, or perhaps maybe even Jonah Aguero started receiving tampering offers. And whether it be from Ole Miss, whether it be from Texas, whoever it might be, started receiving these offers. And then that agent or Jonelle went into the offices and was like, hey, so and so is willing to pay me this. And Georgia was like, when you're a

With Grainger's vast selection of high quality motors, sensors, belts and hard to find parts, you can get what you need fast and all in one place. So nothing gets in the way of getting the job done. Call 1-800-GRAINGER clickranger.com or just stop by Granger for the ones who get it done.
Brooks Austin
Good luck. And I think that's kind of how that went, especially when you start to hear our practice notes here in a minute about how deep this defensive backfield is. I don't think Georgia was willing to go, you know, out of their way to make sure this happened. By the way, he's not the first player to have this happen. This happened with A.D. mitchell. This happened with Jaymond Dumas Johnson. This has happened time and time again. I would argue this happened with Daryl Smith when he transferred to Missouri. This happens where other schools are like, hey, we're willing to give you the raise that you're seeking and play you more. And that's a no brainer for any football player. And what Jonah Aguero cannot do is say that in front of the media. Right? So he did what he was supposed to do and he said the right things when he was asked about this. And it's not only Wilson, 100%.
Jonathan
Yeah. It's not only the, the idea that he got into better offer. It's also Georgia had already somewhat kind of found replacement like for a Jaymond Dumas Johnson thing. CJ Allen had kind of already taken over that Mike position. We saw Rayshawn Dinkins absolutely ball out in the two games he started at Star. So, like, it's kind of a little bit of both of Georgia didn't feel like he was a guy that they could not absolutely lose. At the same point, if your replacement is a cheaper, younger player, you're going to go with that guy more often than not. So I think that also plays into why he is no longer with the program. I don't think that anyone has anything negative to say about him. Like, he was a very good safety for the time he played. I think he started in every game last year that he wasn't injured and started a bunch in 2024. So nothing negative to say about that at all.
Christian
No. And I don't think really, Georgia fans have ill will towards Joe now either for making that decision for himself either. I think it's just one of those situations where it was. I think both sides are going to benefit from the new situation.
Brooks Austin
By the way, Chad's doing the revisionist history. We on this network believe Jonah Oguero was a really good football player.
Christian
Correct. Really good.
Jonathan
Correct.
Brooks Austin
We thought he was really good.
Jonathan
We often went to bat for him.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. Like now, I think the most shocking thing for us was when he hit the portal. And I think you two were in the car with me when I was on the phone with sources, and they were like, he. Not very good. Like what?
Jonathan
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
Huh. I think they were doing the my girl just left me talk. She.
Christian
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
So I think that's what was going on there to an extent. But the. The reactions from the building were a little bit different than our reactions.
Christian
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
About how I. I never thought he was in a bad spot last year.
Christian
Well, and two, like, the position that he plays at Georgia, number one. There's been two really, really good star players to play at Georgia over the last five years. That being Javon Bullard and. And Tyke Smith did a phenomenal job there. Star is also a very vulnerable position. We talk about that all the time on here. So if there's somewhere you're going to be exposed, it's going to be there. So did Joe now have moments where maybe, like, he wasn't very good? Sure. Because that is a very. Like I said, it's a very vulnerable spot to be in constantly on the football field. But for the most part, like, 90% of the time when Aguero was on the field, I didn't have concerns about him being out there. I Wasn't like, oh dang, Aguero's out there or anything like that. I always thought that he was a very good football player for Georgia.
Jonathan
And I also wonder if the lead up into what, when he eventually got on the field kind of did some damage to his, I want to say, legacy with the Persona of him. Because there was a time where it was like, man, they really want this Jonella girl guy to get out there, but you just can't figure it out. From a mental standpoint, he's still a step slow and far as stiff.
Christian
Yeah.
Jonathan
As far as reading things and turning up field. And I think that kind of followed him to when he ultimately did touch the field. I never felt like we saw it personally. It never seemed like there was a team that was like, we're picking on number eight today, like this, this is the guy that we can go after and stretch them vertically. They did that to Tyke Smith in 2022 and 2023. Like there were areas where they show weaknesses. So I think it's more of just a, it just was not the perfect fit.
Christian
Yeah, I mean I can remember after the 2023 Auburn game where fans walked away and were like, ah, Tyche Smith might be the weak link here in the secondary. Tyke Smith was a phenomenal football player. It just happened to be. Oh, they have two really good football players. They have Kamari Lasseter covering and they also have Dalen Everett covering and Some other good DBs and Malachi Starks and Dan Jackson. Where are we going to attack? Well, maybe we'll try out Tyke Smith. Maybe that's where we'll go. And sometimes he got got but most of the time he played, he made really good plays.
Brooks Austin
Jonathan, where's this too deep website? Because I, I, I've searched two tw O I've searched two so just like
Christian
just look up, just type in oh, search up the Too deep.
Brooks Austin
The two deep.
Christian
Yeah. Tw.
Brooks Austin
Oh, apparently Jonathan has found a replacement for OWL ads, which I don't, I've never thought is that good.
Christian
It's just what we had, you know?
Brooks Austin
Yeah, it's what we had. And now you saying there's, there's a revolutionary website.
Christian
They even have predictions for quarterback battles and everything. Like they'll give you an indicator there to tell you how many players are currently on an NFL roster from that year.
Brooks Austin
Their SEO is weak.
Christian
They're starting up right now.
Brooks Austin
Okay, okay, okay.
Christian
I think it's a relatively new thing.
Brooks Austin
I can't find them.
Christian
I have it right now what do you want to know?
Brooks Austin
Yeah, where's Jono playing at? Ole Miss. Where are they projected to play? Is he going to play a safety or is he going to play a nickel? I think he's more of a safety. I thought he was playing a little bit out of position, but they don't think he might not be able to turn and run.
Christian
They have him as a safety, but they also don't have a star nickelback listed on here.
Brooks Austin
So they got a base personnel.
Jonathan
Yeah. Hmm.
Brooks Austin
Nobody's really playing bass. Ole Miss doesn't.
Christian
That's just what they have on here.
Brooks Austin
Again, found my first area of concern for this new revolutionary website.
Christian
Everything now here, let me go check out Georgia. Let me see what they got.
Brooks Austin
Maybe you can put them in a package where you like nickel, make them play five. Anyways, it's something to note. You want some scrimmage notes?
Jonathan
I think he was about to find anybody.
Christian
Okay, so they list. So for Georgia, they just list Khalil Barnes as another cornerback on here.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. So we've. We found an error in this.
Christian
That's okay.
Brooks Austin
He said you can change it to nickel and dime.
Christian
Oh, you can. I see that up.
Brooks Austin
Change it to nickel. See what happens. We're about to test the value of this system right here on main. I mean, my. My phone is just going outrageous right about now.
Christian
Very interesting.
Brooks Austin
Interesante you say, huh, I like this. How do I get the defense? This is really great.
Christian
Well, I was gonna say you might want to just like, fill some air time.
Brooks Austin
Make sure you hit that thumbs up button. By the way, ladies and gentlemen, we got a lot of people watching right now. Not enough thumbs up. We'd appreciate you guys if you do that. That's how we get put in front of brand new people that have never found us before.
Jonathan
Well, Jay was looking at that. There's scrimmage on Sunday.
Christian
They still have Aguero listed at safety in those formations as well.
Brooks Austin
All right, let's take a look at it. I'm going to give you the general overview. If you want the full rundown. Patreon.com forward/brooksaustin. There's injury notes over there. They didn't come out of it completely unscathed, but I think they'll be. I never do. Head over there. Patreon.com forward/brooksaustin We've had a lot of new subscribers over there recently and for good reason. Let's do it. Scrimmage notes. I feel like the offensive line dominated all day. Ooh, Dominated all day. And Kirby, you've been. You've done inside run periods.
Jonathan
Yes.
Brooks Austin
Inside run periods should not average six yards of carry.
Jonathan
No. God, no.
Brooks Austin
They should not. Unless you are that good up front.
Jonathan
If you're running. Look, inside run periods is literally. If you're a defensive player, you're cheating. It is a run. Now you know what's happening. You're running the ball.
Brooks Austin
There was one play action pass in each set of plays. So they had to remain a little bit honest. Okay. As a defense, they couldn't just sell out for the run. They did the first time and they got hit with an explosive. And then after that, they were like, whoa. So it wasn't truly a run only period.
Jonathan
Okay?
Brooks Austin
That being said, for the most part it was. And they were still running, like, not like as if it was on air, but they were running with creases in the run schemes over and over and over again. Now, you can be optimist or a pessimist. Which one do you want first?
Jonathan
I would already.
Brooks Austin
You want the optimism. Optimism. Offensive line, Freaking great.
Jonathan
My God.
Brooks Austin
Running backs. My God.
Christian
Joe Moore. Ward.
Brooks Austin
Joe Moore award pessimist. What's going on with the defensive line? Oh, um, I don't believe that to be the case because as you will see in the Patreon notes, I didn't sit there and count reps all day, but, you know, I. Xavier McLeod and Elijah Griffin are not getting all the snaps as they rightfully should not. We gotta keep those guys healthy. So your best two defensive tackles didn't take a bunch of burn.
Jonathan
So when they're. When you're getting gashed, is it.
Commercial Announcer
Granger knows. When you're a procurement manager for an office park, you're not managing one building, you're managing all of them. Jonathan
The holes are just that wide open. Or is it. We can't. We cannot tackle the first man.
Brooks Austin
Well, Jay Lamar banged his head on a goal post on a play that us three could have scored on, so there was that.
Jonathan
Okay.
Brooks Austin
But no, I think the other note about this was that is by far hands down the best I've ever seen. Nate Frazier.
Christian
Look, let's be an Optimist about the pessimist. This is just fuel for Kirby Smart and Glenn Schumann and Trey Scott to just light into these boys like we still can't stop the run, guys. We've talked about it all last year, talked about it all off season. This year, still can't do it and got to get back to it.
Jonathan
And playing devil's advocate, I've been around a ton of fall camps in my time in Athens. I've heard rumblings around fall camps from Kirby Smart's time at Georgia. Stopping the run has always been a concern early into the fall season. It's always been even in 21.
Brooks Austin
Have you seen this super chub?
Jonathan
Yeah, from Brazil.
Brooks Austin
I've been watching your channel to learn about the game. Shout out from Brazil. Hell, new college football and random App State fan here.
Christian
Respect.
Brooks Austin
You need to take a trip to Boone, North Carolina. That's what you need to do.
Christian
You know it, I'm sure.
Brooks Austin
Just don't do it in the winter. You know what I said it's code. It is real code up there in Boone, North Carolina.
Christian
Christian, would you like to guess who the starting quarterback for App State is this season?
Jonathan
It's not. He didn't play. It's not the Cherokee Kid. He's in Mississippi.
Brooks Austin
No, it's at Mississippi State. You are correct.
Christian
This is a former five star, I believe.
Brooks Austin
No, not a four star.
Jonathan
I did know this and it's blanking right now. Give me a hint.
Christian
Played at Boise State at one point.
Jonathan
I got nothing. Who is it?
Brooks Austin
Malachi Singleton did not play at Boise State. Put at Arkansas.
Christian
I thought he did at one point.
Jonathan
Well, the hit was bad so that's why I didn't get.
Brooks Austin
I don't believe so it was Arkansas then App State. It is Malachi Singleton. I thought you were going to say play at North Cobb, so that would have given him the hint.
Christian
So when you say no, I didn't know that either.
Jonathan
So when you say Nate Frazier is the best. What? What was it that made him?
Brooks Austin
Cuts.
Jonathan
The cuts were just that.
Brooks Austin
The patience never once bounced. Is the only running back all day that didn't get yelled at for bouncing the ball. Kirby was, and rightfully so, very adamant about the fact that in this conference and in power for football nowadays, you bounce that thing to the sideline, you ain't going nowhere. Dude, they running you down. Nobody can do that. Nobody can run horizontally and then get vertically. That's just not what happens nowadays. It's not what happens on Sundays. You have to get in the crease. North And South.
Jonathan
So. So he's still Nate Frazier in the sense of, like, he hasn't changed the way he plays at all. He's just the best version of Nate Frazier, just better. That's great to hear.
Brooks Austin
I mean, made really, really subtle cuts that were impressive. So. Yeah, that's the best I've seen him look. Speaking of best, this is the best defensive back core they've had since I've been here. Really, since I've covered Georgia, I have not seen anything like this.
Jonathan
It's better than 20, 23, because I think that's kind of the best.
Christian
Yeah. Collectively, that's what people would probably say is the best.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. Because I thought QE could get attacked every once in a while.
Jonathan
Well, that's 23.
Christian
That's just Malachi, Dan Kamari, and Dalen and Tyke.
Brooks Austin
Because I felt like Dalen could get picked on occasionally.
Jonathan
He could.
Brooks Austin
That was his first year starting. Correct. There. I. There's not a. I mean, guys, I think DeMelo and Ellis Robinson are gonna be top 45 picks. They're. They're. Obviously Ellis is labeled a first round.
Jonathan
So now.
Brooks Austin
And he is that.
Jonathan
So now here's the pessimistic side.
Brooks Austin
We're gonna get there in a second.
Jonathan
DBs look great.
Brooks Austin
We're gonna get there in a second.
Jonathan
Okay.
Brooks Austin
We're get there in a second.
Jonathan
So then we'll stand.
Brooks Austin
Let me continue with this, though, because I think Khalil Barnes is a pro. Cool Barnes, the only football player out there Sunday that did not get yelled at because he never did anything wrong.
Jonathan
Did he ever get praised?
Brooks Austin
It didn't have to. He just make a play and it's just like. That's business as usual. Keep it moving.
Jonathan
Hell, yeah.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. No, I. I did not hear KJ or Cool Barnes's name said once over the microphone.
Jonathan
Good.
Brooks Austin
And it was because it wasn't because he wasn't making plays. It's because he's just. And they've said that about him from day one, just doing his job. Just a pro, just an absolute professional. Don't know if he'll be drafted inside the first two rounds, but he's going to play NFL football. And I thought sometimes he got played out of position last year at Clemson, but it is what it is. Everybody knows KJ is a future first rounder. So you have two corners that I think are absolutely elite. You have a first round safety and you have a nickel. Now that I think is an NFL football player. And whoever plays the other safety spot doesn't really matter. It doesn't. It doesn't really matter. Everybody else around them so great that I don't think it's going to matter. So that there. There are four names there that I think that could play.
Jonathan
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
Zion Branch, Jamali Riddle, Kyron Jones. Looked really good. Still doesn't miss tackles. It looks like himself. Yeah, he's back practicing. I know you said that off camera. He's back on a rep count. Doesn't get to do conditioning at the end, but yeah, no, he's out there practicing.
Jonathan
Great.
Brooks Austin
And then of course, Dinkins is in the mix too. And I didn't even mention Tyreek Boogie.
Christian
Yeah.
Jonathan
Green does.
Brooks Austin
They have so many options.
Jonathan
So obviously that's a lot of players for what we assume is one position. Is there a world where KJ Bolden comes off the field?
Christian
No.
Jonathan
So he's. That there's. There's no.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. I thought there were two players that were very clearly the best players on the field. Maybe three if you include Nate. It was Chris Cole by a mile. Good is the best at everything. He's your best edge rusher. He's your best off ball linebacker. He's your best football player.
Christian
He's just.
Brooks Austin
He's great. And somehow continues to get bigger. He looks thick now and then. KJ is the other one. That's just elite. By the way, Blake Stewart's going to play for Georgia for a long time.
Jonathan
Good.
Brooks Austin
That guy. That guy can play ball.
Christian
Now, I don't want to jump the gun too early, but I mean, so far this 20, 26 recruiting class seems like they feel pretty good about quite a few options that they have in that class.
Jonathan
Huh. And it was not a very highly. They finished what, seventh?
Christian
Something like that. Yeah.
Jonathan
Worst Kirby Smart class they've signed in a long time.
Christian
Interesting.
Jonathan
But seems like they've got more hits.
Brooks Austin
I mean, there's two that are already in the rotation offensively. Three if you want to count Craig Danger. It's the Kai Held and Kaden Prothro and then Dangerous is going to play
Jonathan
this year and then, I mean, God knows where. But you have to imagine Boogie is going to take some.
Brooks Austin
He's going to get on the field at some point.
Jonathan
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. I was really impressed with Blake Stewart. Ellis Robinson picked off gunner, Ruben or Terrell fought Ruben Foster. Terrell Foster picked off Ryan Puglisi and Chris Cole picked off Ryan Montgomery. So all three got it except for Bryson Beaver, QB1.
Jonathan
Oh, no, don't do that.
Christian
While you were QB1 while you were gone. So we got into this discussion about quarterbacks and, like, Bryson Bieber, and I think Brooks asked a question of, like, how does this happen? Like, what is it about Bryson Beaver that, like, everybody has fallen in love with? And I talked about how I witnessed it firsthand at G Day.
Jonathan
I said it. I said it.
Christian
How passionate were you about Bryson Beaver when you saw him in the spring game?
Jonathan
I was like, he looks really good. And I even said he was. He was one of my off the bus type of guys where literally people are going to see him go, who? Who is that? And then he's going to throw the football. People go, oh, my God. And I figured out why this happens. People want to be the first to take.
Brooks Austin
Yeah.
Jonathan
When the, when the day comes. If the day comes that Bryson Bieber is starting for the University of Georgia and balling out, someone wants to say, I was saying back in 2026 that we needed to start this kid. I was saying that we needed to start Gunner Stockton over Carson Beck long before. Or I was saying that we need to start Brock Vandergripp, get Carson. Like, they always want to be the first. They always want to be right. They always want to be. Seem like they're smarter than everyone else. Like, oh, Stetson Bennett does not need to be starting. J.T. daniels is the guy. They have to be the first to the take or they have to be the ones to say it.
Brooks Austin
You know who was the. You know who was the most yelled at football player out there? Offensive defense, offense, period. This guy. This guy was getting smoke in warm ups. This guy was getting yelled at in warm ups.
Jonathan
Was it Drew Bobo?
Brooks Austin
No, it's some. I don't know who started the hype on this guy, but I think this was maybe part of the. There was two reasons why I think Kirby was getting after. One, he missed spring ball.
Christian
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
Because he wasn't enrolled. Two, maybe they found out that there was way too much hype already about a kid who's just gotten on campus and it's the Trey Shields kid. A wide receiver Branch. Yeah. Like. Or. Yeah, what is it? Fields. Trey Fields.
Christian
No, Trey Shields.
Brooks Austin
Trey Shields, Absolutely. From Jump Street. Oh, my God. Somebody help Trey. Trey has no idea what we're doing. Somebody please. Somebody please help Trey out. The next five minutes later. Trey, what are you doing? Trey. And like, to the point where I. I'm sitting next to the. The person I went with T. Rice, and I'm like, who the hell is Trey? Why? Why? Like, he's not talking About Trey Scott. Who is he yelling at? And then come to find out it's Trey Shields. Yeah, he was getting smoked by Kirby. But I think what that was was he wasn't here to the spring, so he hasn't gotten broken in like the rest of these people have.
Christian
Oh, yeah.
Brooks Austin
So he got all of his comeuppance right then and there. I also think the other thing that's funny is when there, I mean, dude, there was like, I don't know, 7,000 people there. I mean, the whole. Yeah, the whole away side in the shade underneath the overhang filled from. From the zero to the zeros.
Jonathan
So you've. So you have Kirby. You can hear Kirby on the mic.
Brooks Austin
Oh, yeah. Until he put the microphone down because he's about to say the F word. But every time he cussed or every time he yelled at somebody, it was like he was doing a stand up comedy show. Like, everybody starts laughing, everybody starts chuckling, and you can hear it in the audience. I thought that was funny.
Christian
Now, I don't want to put words in anybody's mouth, but I do remember when like the first day of practice happened and then I start getting on social media and I see people saying stuff about Trey Shields. That to me means someone gave insider information that Trey Shields had a good day today.
Brooks Austin
Correct.
Christian
Watch out for him. So I would imagine that's where that started of like, oh. Because then I started seeing people ask us like, hey, what have you heard about Trey Shields? And that means someone else has given information. Not to say that information's wrong, of course. No, but no, yeah, that's where that
Brooks Austin
started out in my imagine. But yeah, that was funny to me. Zero verticality in this offense right now. Zero outside the numbers running vertically. I think the direct quote from Kirby at the end of practice was we are o for infinity downfield today.
Jonathan
And that was kind of my pessimistic view of that. Like, you know, the defensive back room. Yeah, there's a lot of really talented players in there. Was it they're that good or is it we just didn't have any more.
Christian
We'll just say that means no explosives on defense.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, I mean, I said it in our Discord Lounge on the way back from the scrimmage yesterday. I felt like coverage was so good it would have taken Jeremiah Smith coming down here to get open. Like that's. I, I do think they are that good at corner, specifically corner, because that's what we're talking about. The verticality outside the numbers running, running a go ball and Getting on top, stacking corners, winning at the point, point of attack, winning at the catch point. That's all.
Jonathan
One on one.
Brooks Austin
That's all. Like, it wasn't. It wasn't a lot of zone coverage. Hey, you know, get down and we're going to throw you a back shoulder. Like, it was all man to man. Go, go beat that guy in front of you. And I don't know how many. I don't know how many wide receivers you're going to line up against this year on your schedule that can stack and get on top of Ellis Robinson that can stack and run by Demelo Jones. I don't know how many people are going to beat Braylon Conley like that. I don't know how many people are going to beat Jonte Gilbert like that. Like, that's why I said. What I said about the defensive backfield is like, that is the. This, particularly at corners, the best four that I've seen at Georgia since I've been.
Jonathan
Well.
Christian
And to flip that around, that also means how many seconds and not to do this thing because I know Georgia fans have done. That's about to ask this question, like, how many secondaries is Georgia going to face this year that are as good as the ones that they have on the roster? Alabama going to have a really good secondary this year. Outside of that, like on Georgia's regular season schedule right now, how many secondaries are going to face that are that talented?
Jonathan
I'll do one better.
Brooks Austin
People saying Nick harbor has a speed he ain't getting off the line.
Jonathan
Go ahead. How many secondaries is Georgia going to face this year? Where the defensive plan is. You know what? We can, man, these guys, we can walk down and man coverage them.
Brooks Austin
Pamela. But they're more of a zone football team nowadays, right? Oklahoma doesn't play a ton of man. They're his own football team.
Jonathan
But those are two of your own own problems. Like, they disguise coverage.
Brooks Austin
Ole Miss ain't gonna do it.
Jonathan
No. Auburn. No.
Brooks Austin
He's a. He's a disguise coverage.
Jonathan
But what I'm saying is, like, how many of them are just gonna say, you know what? F all this we're dropping. We're just putting. We're cover one. We're bringing four. Get open. Good luck.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know how many people will.
Jonathan
Okay, so then I, I mean, I'm trying to see like, it's obviously like. And this is kind of the. The downside of when you scrimmage because when one side looks that good, the Other looks that bad. So I'm kind of trying to gauge like, where is the wide receiver room at? Did they have any explosives? Because the DBs are really just that good and you weren't going to have them anyways. Or is it the problems that we had last year start still bleeding over into this year?
Brooks Austin
You know who should be QB1?
Jonathan
Who? Go ahead.
Brooks Austin
Coulter.
Jonathan
Again.
Brooks Austin
I was. I was absolutely just mad that I didn't get to see him actually take reps yesterday.
Christian
He's the Terrell Fosters of quarterback rooms.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, he's the Jackson mush champ of quarterback rooms.
Christian
Except there's only one quarterback. So the odds of Coulter actually getting to get some burn like Terrell Foster will this year. Small chance. Not going to say zero. Not going to say absolutely zero, but unfortunately just one of those things. But six around could go play somewhere else.
Brooks Austin
That guy would throw for 5,000 yards for Charleston Southern. 5,005,7000. It would break passing records for Charleston Southern.
Christian
Wants to be a dog.
Brooks Austin
Just. I. I think he really wants that Georgia degree. That's what I think he wants.
Jonathan
Don't blame him.
Brooks Austin
Ballad Peach county kid maybe don't want
Jonathan
to leave home to good degree.
Brooks Austin
Colter getting stocked to the moon. I'm with you. I'm with you. Travis. Yeah. No verticality. Run blocking was superb. No doubt. Pass rush was suspect apart from Chris Cole. Chris Cole got yelled at for getting too close to the quarterback too many times.
Jonathan
And that, I mean, and that's kind
Brooks Austin
of so good, man. He's so good.
Jonathan
And that kind of aligns with what we were a little bit worried about of. Hey, you know, Amaris Williams went down this year. He was supposed to be your. Your win now, third down guy. Obviously Chris Cole's gonna have to be that, but Chris Cole's so damn good at everything that he's got to be elsewhere at some at times. So I think that's going to be interesting. What did the interior pass rush look like? And I know that they don't always go balls to the wall, especially in scrimmages when you.
Brooks Austin
Nasir Johnson won a good bit.
Jonathan
Okay.
Christian
Okay.
Brooks Austin
And I'll give you this one. I was going to leave it on Patreon, but at one point Kirby said, nasir, if we get you down to 330, you will be lightning and we will be great.
Christian
What do you think he's at right now?
Brooks Austin
340.
Christian
Okay.
Brooks Austin
Maybe 340 plus 10. I thought Namdiyag Boko was going to need an oxygen.
Jonathan
Oh, no.
Brooks Austin
At one Point.
Christian
Because he was out there so much.
Brooks Austin
Oh, no, no. Just because he was gassed.
Jonathan
Oh.
Brooks Austin
I also loved, I think my favorite quote from Kirby was there they had to do conditioning and instead of doing gassers, he made it easy on him. So we got 10 tens, which is bro. Running 10, 10 yard sprints is cake money. Even after. Even after doing a two and a half hour practice like it is, burst for three yards and try not to raise your pad level and finish through the line. Like it is the most basic of conditioning as we possibly can get. And Kirby goes. And I swear, if one human being takes their knee braces off, we're running gassers. And as he's saying that, he points to Namdiyagboko. Namdi's already right, like in the middle of taking his knee braces off. I was notorious for that back in, in college. I get these things off me as soon as possible. I freaking hate practicing the knee braces because they just slip slide all over the place. If you don't have pants on, they're just all over the place.
Jonathan
Yeah. The big one for us was don't unbuckle the pads. You be in the group huddle and everyone's unbuckling while coaches talking is like, no, no, don't do that, please.
Christian
No, stop.
Jonathan
I know what this means after. So no, but yeah, I mean, I mean, is conditioning an issue? You think that's something to worry about now? Because, I mean, we are three weeks, you know, 25 days away from kicking off. Like, if you're not in shape at this point, you're not going to be for the season. So is that something that should be a worry?
Brooks Austin
Sorry, I'm read. Yeah, I just got a text message that's going to be sent over to patreon.com/forward/brookshausen right after the show. These are additional nugs from sources. Very nice throw up over there. But they do agree with me, by the way. Best secondary we've had in some time.
Jonathan
Good. So that's good.
Brooks Austin
Just blowing smoke.
Jonathan
Do they still think it's the deepest running back room they've had since 2019?
Brooks Austin
Don't see any notes on the running back room right now. Oh, wait, yeah, we got, we got a note there. We got a note there.
Jonathan
So go ahead. I heard a lot about how great Nate Frazier looked. Did Chauncey just not look great or is it just Nate Frazier was so good. It's. It's kind of his.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, Chauncey looked good. Chauncey physically looks the best. He's ever looked good. He's got to be 232 pounds.
Jonathan
Is the number change.
Brooks Austin
Oh, no. I liked him in 33.
Jonathan
I loved it in 33.
Brooks Austin
He looks good in five, though. But physically looks really, really good. The Nick Peele kid was a tremendous addition. The fact that Georgia of all places gets to have that kid, it's like, what are y' all doing? I'm looking at all you coaches that listen to this network. What were y' all doing? That kid had like 4,000 career yards at Roswell. What are you doing just letting Georgia add him for free?
Christian
Yeah, like, just goofy.
Jonathan
Like, what.
Christian
What do you think other coaches reactions to that are like, when you see
Brooks Austin
that, I'll tell you what it was. Oh, yeah, that's what it was. Oops.
Christian
Like, how big of a screw up is that for you to be? Like, maybe not a Georgia. Like a smaller school than Georgia. And there's an in state kid if you're one of those programs or even out of state. And here this kid is that just racked it up in high school and it's like Georgia just got him in the month of May. Like that's, that's where he's going to end up now.
Brooks Austin
Y' all want some Andrew Smart nugs? Oh, most important, I didn't give these to Patreon.
Jonathan
Most important part of the show.
Brooks Austin
Y' all want these right here?
Jonathan
Yeah, let's. Let's hear that, kids. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What did they let him throw?
Brooks Austin
Yes. In practice during indies.
Jonathan
And please, please share.
Brooks Austin
Obviously you can spin it. Here's what I was really impressed with because, you know, I'm a process guy. I like to see kids work. As soon as indies got done, he went down to the end zone and started running 50s and running them hard. Now first world problems. The trainer was down there stretching him out after he got done. And I was sitting there going, man, what a life that kid lives just out there. 14 years old, practicing with Georgia inside Sanford stadium. All love 6 5, by the way.
Christian
Yeah, he's huge.
Brooks Austin
He is. Massive genetic lottery pool.
Christian
Right?
Brooks Austin
Is what that kid got. Because, I mean, Mary Beth's a tall woman.
Jonathan
She played basketball.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, but like Kirby's five, nine and a half, five ten. Like he's not like the biggest dude in the world. His son is massive. Absolutely massive. Almost to the point where I'm like, can we stunt his growth somehow? Can we just stop it from going any further? Because there ain't many 6 foot 7 quarterbacks that are great and right now it looks like he might end up being that. Like he is so big and so long. His feet. He's got to wear a size 15.
Christian
I remember seeing his.
Brooks Austin
Got to wear a size 15.
Christian
God, like what size he wears my shoe size.
Brooks Austin
I mean, huge feet on that.
Jonathan
Pick up the round ball.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, but he can spin it.
Jonathan
He can spin it.
Christian
So Athens Academy. Is that where he's at?
Brooks Austin
Athens? Yeah, Athens Academy. Okay, there's Athens Christian. Athens Academy. Athens Christian is blue and gold or purple and gold. Athens Academy is green and white. Yes, he plays the Athens Academy.
Christian
Okay. I was just curious about that.
Brooks Austin
Along with like three quarters of the coaching staff's kids.
Christian
That's about it.
Brooks Austin
They either go to Prince or Athens Academy, so. But yeah, he gonna be a dude. I see why Tech did it. Yeah, sure, get in. You're not gonna win, but just get in. Sure does.
Jonathan
Do you even wait for a Georgia offer at that point? They're, they're.
Brooks Austin
They might not ever formally offer that kid.
Jonathan
That's what I'm saying is like, is that.
Brooks Austin
Is there just don't even. There's no need. If he's good enough to play at Georgia, he will play nowhere else. He'll play Georgia.
Jonathan
You think so? You don't think he'll be like, I don't know.
Brooks Austin
I. I think you want. I would want to play for my dad if that was my dad.
Jonathan
Yeah, that's true.
Brooks Austin
Maybe he's part of anti Bobo gang, though.
Jonathan
You know? You never know.
Brooks Austin
You never know.
Christian
Could you imagine that, like sitting down with your dad and Bobo and they're talking about you coming to play a joy. He's like, yeah, dad, I love Georgia, but Bobo kind of trash.
Brooks Austin
Uncle Mike. Uncle Mike's.
Jonathan
Yeah, Uncle Mike don't know what the hell fam.
Brooks Austin
That's crazy.
Jonathan
That's something Andrew would say too, but
Brooks Austin
nah, he's gonna be. He's gonna be a dude. I, I like that. It could be very easy. The. The 50s were important to me because it could be very easy for that kid to just.
Jonathan
Yeah. Take the, Take the rest of the
Brooks Austin
practice off, hang out.
Jonathan
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
And he was out there working, working. So that was awesome. You're more of a traditional defensive tackle football team now. I. I haven't seen you play mint front as a base defense in a long.
Jonathan
They don't have a monster. Really.
Brooks Austin
Bingo. I talked about this with our Patreon audience in Discord a couple days ago because somebody was arguing with me about whether or not Jordan hall is a nose tackle. And I'm like you don't, you don't really play a nose tackle anymore. You don't play a true zero. Hell, even if you're, even if you're a shade tech and there's a three tech out there, if they happen to flip the tight end, you guys are sliding anyways. So who lined up as a shade ends up as a three Tech and who lined up as a three tech ends up as a shade. So you have to play both and you have to be able to play both. Whereas used to you just play the zero and you'd have a 4i and a stand up jack and a and a 3 tech next to him. And that's how you guys play defense. Y' all don't do that anymore. Y' all are bigger and longer at defensive end. You don't recruit 6 foot 2, 265 pound edge rushers anymore. You recruit nothing but Chase Linton, Darren Nick and Nogbun, Gabe Harris, Quintavius Johnson, Isaiah Gibson. Like you recruit nothing but big Joseph, Jonah, Jon, J.J. han. You recruit big long bookends is what we called them back in the day. You recruit two big standup or rush ends. That's what you have. Whereas used to, you'd have this like hybrid outside linebacker guy. And that's, that's no more. You don't, you don't play defense like that anymore.
Jonathan
It's not a Nolan Smith rolling.
Brooks Austin
Correct. So now you do have two nose tackle bodies.
Jonathan
Sure.
Brooks Austin
Namdiyag Boko and Nassir Johnson are this. But I just got done telling you they want both of them to lose weight.
Jonathan
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
They don't want them being out there playing £350, £360.
Jonathan
What influences a change like that?
Brooks Austin
Personnel, I would imagine. But to me it was time to release on, on the football.
Christian
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
Because I mean we remember. I can't remember who they were playing a couple years ago, but Kirby came in there with a time to release stat. He was like the last five games, quarterbacks have averaged, I think throwing the football under two seconds. Was it Alabama?
Jonathan
I think so.
Brooks Austin
And basically saying like we couldn't get home if we had freaking prime Miles Garrett out there. Right now everybody's just catching and throwing, catching and throwing, catching and throwing until we get them on automatic passing downs and then they actually have to run traditional downfield passing concepts and then we have a chance to get home. So if that's what it's going to be, then we better start getting length and we better start clouding passing lanes when we get hands Up. So I think that's what you're saying.
Christian
Gotcha.
Jonathan
Because, I mean, I understand why we would go from a base to a 4 to 5. Like we're getting killed in the slot right now. We don't. We need more speed than we need brutality. I just never, like, defensive line is not my strong suit. So understanding, like, why we would go from a true mint front with a zero to, hey, we're probably just gonna be a shade and a three at the closest is. I don't fully understand that. So that makes sense.
Brooks Austin
More available over on patreon.com forward/brooks. Awesome. Sign up today for all those inside nugs. Let's do this. Bama preview, shall we?
Jonathan
Let's do it.
Brooks Austin
We've gone through all the SEC matchups to date. No offense to Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, but we previewed. Let's see if I can do this in order. Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Jonathan
Check.
Brooks Austin
And then Vandy. And now it's Alabama, your fourth SEC football game.
Jonathan
That's right.
Brooks Austin
All right. Who's the quarterback? That would be my biggest question, number one. Obviously the other question is, whoever the quarterback is, is that guy actually tested before you go to Tuscaloosa? Because I looked at the schedule and I've been looking at the schedule. It's Eastern Carolina at Kentucky, Florida State, South Carolina at Mississippi State.
Jonathan
Not a lot of room for it.
Brooks Austin
No, I don't think there's a defense on that list right there. There's anything the caliber of yours.
Jonathan
No.
Brooks Austin
Maybe. South South Carolina is always decent on defense. They're never bad. Yeah, they're always a worthy, respectable bunch. There's no doubt. Okay, so I don't mean to be demeaning to the Gamecocks, but I think it's pretty safe to assume that whether it's Austin Mack or Keelan Russell, they're probably going to coast through those first five games. I mean, unless deboard the DeBoer thing happens.
Jonathan
For that matter, do they even really know for certain who their quarterback is coming into that game?
Brooks Austin
So they've. They've been very adamant, this coaching staff has been out there at Alabama about wanting to name a starter early. Okay. And riding with one until the wheels fall off and then we have to play the other guy. So maybe Mississippi State makes some score.
Christian
Would you like to know what Too Deep says about the QB battle?
Brooks Austin
Sure. Jonathan.
Christian
Alabama. So let's see.
Jonathan
We go to battles.
Christian
Okay. It says that Austin Mack has an edge right now in the QB battle.
Brooks Austin
I would have to agree just because if I went as far as I did as they did to make sure Austin Mack early enrolled to Washington, make sure Austin Mack came from Washington to Alabama, make sure Austin Mack stayed on this roster despite the fact that we've signed a gazillion five stars of the position the last couple years. I would want to know that I was right about my evaluation as a coach. Selfishly, I would want to know that like, prove to myself that we selected the right guy. We've gone about all the. We've gone through all these links to make sure this guy's on our roster. I want to know that he is our guy or is the guy now.
Christian
And.
Brooks Austin
And the future is Keon, no doubt.
Christian
Oh, for sure the future is Keon. But I. I also think there's probably a part of Deborah not to say that this is going to completely suede his decision and who is the starter, but I'm just saying, like there's a part of him, I'm sure that being Debor that wants to reward the loyalty that Austin Mack has shown to him. I mean obviously loyalty to. Shown the he showed in Alabama. But like specifically to coach Deborah of like. Like you said, following him to Alabama, waiting his turn, still giving him his opportunity for like being loyal to Kayla.
Brooks Austin
Wait a minute.
Christian
Process.
Brooks Austin
We got two Brazilian fans in the chat.
Jonathan
I guess so.
Brooks Austin
I love that Maroc has. I butchered that name. I know. I love that Maroc has joined the club and would like to stake my claim as the first Brazilian to make the board last year. Now let's go recruit some more Brazilian ball knowers. Go Dogs. Bill Villi, man, W.E. worldwide. Mr. Worldwide. Mr. 305.
Jonathan
Knew that was happening.
Christian
Known FIU fan right there.
Brooks Austin
That being known FIU legend. I don't think he went to that school though. I don't think so either. But hey, $3 million I get to put my name on a stadium. I'd do it.
Christian
That'll do it.
Brooks Austin
I'd do it.
Jonathan
If I had $3 million to throw away, I'd have my name on a lot.
Brooks Austin
Oh, Mr. 305 got way more than three milli to throw away.
Jonathan
I would have my name on a lot of things. Worldwide disposable income like that.
Brooks Austin
Can they run the ball?
Jonathan
That's a major question. That's why like it plays into who's the quarterback.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, that's why I would probably go Keelan.
Jonathan
Yeah. I mean that talked about that. We've discussed that. But I mean that's. Those are two of the big questions. Like I feel like we Have a pretty good idea that Alabama's defense is going to, for the most part, hold Georgia. Likely two under 30 points. They've done it in the last two games and great defense outside of 2024. They were doing it before Carson Beck just started throwing caution. The wind said, hey, we're down 30. Might as well just keep throwing it deep so they have a good defense. It's. That's not going to be the issue for them. I don't think it's going to be. Ken. Our offense scored 25 plus points, so I think that's an eight major point here. One thing I would say, and this isn't necessarily schematically, is can you punch first? Because the last three games, and it's a smaller sample size, but it's basically all the Kalyn DeBoer games. The team that punches first has won this game. Obviously. Alabama in 2024 went on a tie rate of points. I think they were up 33 at halftime. Alabama in the second game or the game in Athens, marches down the field up 7, 0. They're up 14 0, I believe. And then obviously in the SEC championship, block, punt, George is up 7 0. They win that game. The team that punches first in that game with the K in the Caitlin DeBoer era of this rivalry has won the football games. It's a small sample size, but it's worth noting.
Christian
Interesting. I mean, I would also say too, like the two times that Alabama beat Georgia, it was also because their offenses just got off to an insanely hot start.
Jonathan
Yeah.
Christian
Like Jalen Milroe and the. And them in 2024 played perfect the entire first half and led to a major lead going into the second half. And then Ty Simpson was just unconscious for the first half, too. But then second half, both games, Georgia's defense made adjustments, are able to get themselves back into the football game and then a really winnable spot.
Brooks Austin
I think it's a defensive struggle, honestly.
Jonathan
God, definitely.
Brooks Austin
I think you have a real strong possibility to run your way to a win, though.
Jonathan
They should have done that last year. There's a. I don't remember. I don't have the stat readily available.
Brooks Austin
Chauncey was ripping them.
Christian
Yeah.
Jonathan
I mean, there.
Brooks Austin
There was a 135 in that game, didn't he?
Christian
I think so. This is around there. Yeah, he was having a phenomenal game.
Brooks Austin
They were running the football at will, but I feel like they got to a point where they felt like they were down a little bit too much.
Jonathan
Yeah. Yeah.
Christian
It gets to a point where you can't keep running the football because you got to conserve time.
Jonathan
I'm trying to find a tweet, but there was a stat I had of basically the. The first team. I think it was this. The first team to reach 100 yards rushing had won like nine in a row prior to the 2026 match or 2025 matchup. Last year, Georgia had reached 100 yards rushing first in the first half alone. So, I mean, running the ball should be what wins you that football game outside of obviously last year. So, yeah, if you can run the football, which we think that Georgia sounds like, Georgia's gonna have a great offensive line. It sounds like the running back room, despite some injuries, despite losing one of their, you know, presumed key players, is going to have really solid running backs. I don't know necessarily what Alabama looks like from a defensive line standpoint and then the front seven of stopping the run. So you would feel good about that. But again, it is Tuscaloosa. It is Alabama. There are still all those voodoo things that play, even though you did hand them a massive L last year. So it's worth noting all those things. What else do you have for.
Brooks Austin
I don't think you'll see very many passing explosives in that football game on either side.
Jonathan
You don't?
Brooks Austin
No. I think these are two of the better defensive back groups in all of college football.
Christian
It's funny because when you say that, that makes me think, oh, Austin Mack might be better suited for that game. But then you also throw in the wrinkle of got to be able to run the ball well. Keelan's probably the better option there. It's funny how that works.
Brooks Austin
Yeah. I would go Notre Dame, Miami, or not Miami, Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, and then find another defensive back group that looks like those guys.
Christian
Maybe Oregon.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, just the other safety spot in Oregon. I don't know. The other corner spot at Oregon, I don't know.
Christian
But they got two great players, but
Brooks Austin
they have the best defensive line of those three that I just mentioned. So the defensive backfield might get protected a little bit.
Jonathan
Sure. So what I'm hearing is this game is going to look very similar to the blueprint of the SEC championship where neither offense is really moving the football. Yeah. But turnovers and short fields are what's going to win you that game. Yeah. Because Georgia boxed Alabama in that SEC championship, the score also suggests that it was a just drumming, when in reality it was a slow burn where Georgia took advantage of two or three short fields and won by 21 points. So not taking away from Georgia beat the hell out 21 points is an ass whipping. At the same point, a lot of that was short field induced and turnover induced where it could have varied very easily. Happen the other way around. And who knows what happened in this year's game.
Brooks Austin
Does it worry about you, worry you guys about going to Tuscaloosa?
Christian
I mean, yeah, I mean, I mean
Jonathan
playing Alabama, I mean, if this game was played in Athens, Georgia at night, I think it would still worry you to a certain degree.
Brooks Austin
You know what worries me? What's that actually having to pick the game this year.
Jonathan
Yeah.
Brooks Austin
Not just rolling in the week of going, well, this will be easy Alabama until you don't or you can't mail
Christian
it in this time.
Brooks Austin
Well, I'll get to do that in the SEC championship game of Georgia and Texas meet and I'll get to pick Georgia and just be like, no analysis needed. I'll give you the film studies. We'll talk about the matchup ad nauseam. But Georgia, Chat want.
Jonathan
Chat wants you to pick Alabama.
Brooks Austin
Okay. I mean that's, that's fine. We'll see when we get there.
Jonathan
Yeah, I mean we've got.
Brooks Austin
I do have Georgia losing a regular season football game this year. I just don't know who it's going to be.
Jonathan
I mean, there's three where they could very easily catch enough for some reason.
Christian
The one that I, I think it's Oklahoma. I don't see first. For whatever reason, that's not the one for me. It's Ole Miss. That's going to be the one that I'm like, there's a game that I'm
Brooks Austin
thinking that can't wait to go out there. Yeah, I might get spit on this year. I felt close to getting spay away from barstool.
Jonathan
Mincy seeds will be flying.
Christian
The best.
Brooks Austin
That's his favorite tweet of last year, wasn't it?
Christian
Oh, it's one of the best uses of AI ever.
Jonathan
Yeah. It really is.
Brooks Austin
Just him spitting all over.
Jonathan
It was right when it was right before AI took off. Really? Before, like, you were like, ah, that's AI.
Christian
It was in the era of like, is that real? Is that, Is that real? That might be real. And it's like, no, it's definitely not real.
Brooks Austin
And I don't watch a ton of their content, but I see it on my timeline all the time. He would be that type of person.
Christian
Right. That's why it's kind of believable.
Brooks Austin
He would just be so drunk that he's. He's. Unconscious to anything around him and he's just spitting seeds all over the place.
Christian
Right.
Brooks Austin
So I. I could see that happening.
Christian
I think you did miss a Super Ch from 910 Cooper.
Brooks Austin
Yeah, let's get it. 910 Cooper. He's just trying to give me that money back I gave to him. I did show up and give him that. Use the other 50 for my fantasy football dues. Just be careful. Next time I'm in the chat and it's trivia time, shout out to 9:10 Cooper. Man, that's big time stuff. Appreciate the super chubs tonight. All right, ladies and gentlemen, we appreciate you guys for being here tonight. We had great numbers on the show tonight. We appreciate that. Very thankful for it. Make sure you hit that thumbs up button on the way out. I love you. Most importantly, Jesus loves you. We'll see you next time.
