So if one of my football pilgrimages a couple years ago, I'm. I'm sitting in the back of a. A defensive back room, and every time the coach would say something like, you can't let him get into your face, the whole room would be like, hey, yo, Coach. Hey, yo. Pause, Coach. That's a little bit sus. That's a little bit too much. And this would constantly happen over and over and over again. Every time he was just trying to coach ball up on the board, talking about getting into the box, and everybody like, oh, hey, oh, coach. And it finally got to a point where he was like, guys, y' all have no idea how bad it can get. So every Monday, they would start their meetings with Diddy county as a way to like, break the tension in the room.

[Jonathan]

Yeah.

[Brooks Austin]

And as a way to get everybody, all the kids to laugh and. Yes, they would. He played that for them every single Monday all year, last year.

That's incredible. I love that. That is like the perfect icebreaker for a room full of bunch. Full of a bunch of dudes.

Still a little bit immature. Where you hear somebody say don't take the sack is hilarious. I think the worst one I've ever had was. I think I probably recently, I think I said something about Hummers in The middle. In the middle of a film study and I stopped and I was like, oh, dang, Jonathan, that was gonna get us there. I watched some Gunner one today. I watched the first Ole Miss football game where they scored 43 points. I think he was 25 for 31. It's six total incompletions in that football game.

Didn't have a single incompletion in the second half, I believe.

Yeah, he was absolutely dialed. You know who else was dialed in that football game? Y'.

[Jonathan]

Y' all really gonna hate this. Mike Bobo.

Yeah, brother. Mike Bobo was in his bag. I thought that was his most creative football game. That, like going back and watching it that I had seen in. In recent memory. I mean, the first play of the game, they do that cheat motion with Zachariah Branch and run a hitch. They only did that so they could come back to it in the second half and try to slug or hugo it with a little hitch and go. Yeah, Ole Miss covered it like flies. But they tr. I mean, he set it up to come back and kill it. The other thing that they did, they flee. Flickered early in that football game. Do you remember that? They threw a flea flicker to Colby Young. An absolute dot from Gunner Stockton in that football game, they had a running back pass down in the goal line. It didn't really work out. Cash Jones ran out of bounds. But, yeah, I mean, we're trying. Like, y' all say he's boring. Y' all say he's Mr. Screen Pass, which, by the way, that game had two fox touchdowns, fake screen and goes. Which I don't know if y' all know this, but you kind of have to set precedents with screen passes in order to get defenses to bite on the screen and go, hold on, hold on. I know, right?

You're telling me that's like how you have to actually run the ball to set up play action?

[Brooks Austin]

Well, no, that's actually been statistically proven incorrect play action. Works no matter what. Because linebackers are goofy.

[Jonathan]

Unless you play Michigan.

[Brooks Austin]

Unless you play Michigan. That's a good deep pool. But no, the. The screening goes. You have to make defensive backs worry about coming up to that. I'm checking myself here coming up to that ball carrier in order to actually force them to bite on it so you can get behind them. But no play action is a little bit different. That. That's a. Maybe in the NFL though. Like the NFL came out with that stat a while back because everyone became a Shanahan offense and it was like, well, you can't do this if you can't run the football. No, we. We show the fake. We showed low hats. That creates the suck up from the defense. But no, the screening goes. Were working in that football game. Yes, as were tight end slips for touchdowns. They did that as well. At a 22 personnel. They got lost and lucky with one of those as well. I think Gunner only missed two reads that entire game. One of them was Oscar Delt running butt naked down the middle of the field and the other one was about five people running butt naked down the field. That one was a lot more concerning than it was also a double move to London Humphreys down in the red zone and he was, I mean wide open. We'll show you on the film study come Saturday more or Sunday morning. But yeah, I think it's only two reads that I felt like he missed the rest of the that game. He also made in game corrections and I'll give you two examples of this and you'll see this in the film study we miss Oscar Del running butt naked down the middle of the field. The next series we come back to a vertical from him against a very similar set and we rip it. Now we don't complete it, we throw it a little high, but we actually try. Early on in the football game they run a screen and go and. And Ole Miss covers it relatively well. And he tries to check the ball down to the fake screen. But the nickel, it's taken so long to develop that the nickel has sucked up to the actual screen guy. It's a Kobe White Helton and it bout goes the other way. Yeah, they do something similar a little bit later where he thinks okay, maybe I can check it to the swing to the back. And he sees the nickel just buzz into the flat as hard as can be. Pulls the ball down and goes, picks up six yards on first and 10, turns it into a second and four. They run the football and get a first down on the next play. Then take a shot on first and 10. So his ability to grow not only game to game, week over week, month over month, but that dude was self critical and self coaching within singular drives and I think that says a lot about him and his coachability and his adaptability to continue to grow. Kirby's talked about this. Kirby, our Kirby on vacation. Kirby has talked about this. I still don't know how Josh McCray picked up that first down on fourth and one.

No, I don't either.

I, I watch it over and over again and I'm like, how what, how did you not go down? You're just a man. You're just a man that wanted to get up out of Brett Bielema's system. That's what you are. No, but Gunner's ability to grow within a game and within a season makes me really bullish on what he's going to do in terms of growth year over year because I'm going to show you examples of growth within series, let alone an entire off season of being the guy and building rapport with my team. I'm super bullish on what we're actually about to see because there's some quarterbacks we study that are the same. Oh, they have the same problems over and over again. They never really develop. They don't change their problems. Their habits are their habits and they just are who they are. One of them we're going to watch soon or we just got done watching that. I love John Matiere as a playmaker. I love John Matiere as a football player. He's been the same guy for three years as a starter now or two years as a starter now. Wazoo, Oklahoma. I hope he changes a little bit this year.

[Jonathan]

Yeah, I mean to think that Gunner Stockton is just going to remain the same this upcoming season that he was last season. As I don't want to say it's a foolish taker stance to have, but I would say that I don't think you watched him closely enough last year because you could see it in the middle of the season happening. You could see him learning from other mistakes or shortcomings of his game and him improving upon those. I felt like his, like we talked about it in the middle of the season last year like we got to start stepping through the pocket. Kirby talked about like we got to step through the smoke when we're in the pocket. He started doing that in the middle of the season and like, sure there were some other things that continued needed to be cleaned up by him. But. But I just think it's ignorant to think that he's just going to remain the same guy that he was last year and the same issues that he had last season are just going to overlap into this one because again, like, this guy sat the bench for several years in college and didn't play football like real football for a long time and now he got a full season under his belt and now he's going to have another one. I think he's going to be better in certain areas than he was last year.

I think it's only appropriate that we start this segment with a player that we, as a network at least, have made. Somewhat underrated. Not to say that we have the power of steering every narrative around that football program, but this is a player that we tend to forget as a show. Zaden Walker. When you talk about the linebackers, when you talk about getting after the quarterback, people want to talk about Quintavius Johnson. People want to talk about Gabe Harris or they want to talk about Darren Ikanagman. Or they want to talk about all those guys in that room. Or Chris Cole. What's his role look like, all of that. Zaden Walker by the end of the season was arguably the best player at doing that. And you're. You're probably going to get a full season of it this year. One of the more under the radar

players now, you know, they don't talk about enough about who. Terrell Foster. Fellow content creator Terrell Foster.

I was going to say, like, not only Terrell Foster is such an underrated player to have on your roster, because is he a starter? No. But that guy has sat on the bench at Georgia. Could go elsewhere and get better opportunities, I would imagine, at other programs, yet has remained at Georgia. Has been satisfied with what his role is at the University of Georgia. Got some playing time last year and he's going to get some more of it this year. Like having a guy as a backup who has been within your program the last five years, has been with Glenn Schumann for the last five years. Having that as a backup linebacker is such an advantage, in my opinion.

I will say this. Shaving your head for a thousand subs. A little bit low. A little bit low of a selling point there, bud. I. I agreed a million was ours. And that will only be the preface to the journey to Turkey to plug my back together. You know, it's like the only reason I'll be doing. I'm so terrified. If I shaved my head right now, I just wouldn't come back. It's just like, oh, you decided to get rid of us. Never coming back. Ain't gonna see you again. Gone forever. Aaron Hernandez. Who else is underrated?

You know, we talk about the tight end room a lot and for good reason a lot of times.

Lawson Lucky is the most under talked about football player at the tight end position that we have at Georgia. The whole off season has been about Jaden Riddell. The whole off season has been about Elias Williams. The whole off season has been about oh, so we're going to have Ethan Barbour play quarterback. Like it's been like all off the wall. Not understanding that Lawson Lucky is a pro. Lawson Lucky is the leader of this room. Lost. Lucky is one of the leaders of this football team.

Like he's, he's gonna be a captain this year. I would imagine so. That to me is the most underrated player and under talked about player in that room.

Hey, I'm all here for showing Lawson Lucky his respect because Lord knows he deserves it after what he's done for this program over the last several years. But I picked Ethan Barber because I think that all the attention does get put on Elias Williams. All the attention does get put on Jaden Riddell and Lawson Lucky is in that conversation because everybody knows that Lost and Lucky is going to play like they know number seven is going to be out there. He's going to do his job and we're going to be comfortable with it. But I think he doesn't get talked about enough because. And he's under the radar because if you remember correctly, in the first game of the season last year, that was the true freshman getting trotted out onto the field. That was the guy that they were creating opportunities for. That was the guy that all the rave was about was this Ethan Barber guy is going to be a playmaker for us and then he gets injured and he misses majority of the season and, and then number 10 walks out there. But let's not forget about what Ethan Barber was potentially going to do for that room last year as a true freshman.

think McLeod gets talked out enough about. Yeah, I think Georgia fans know how solid he is.

Yeah. And I'm glad that they do because he is just. He's a solid football player for you and rightfully so. Elijah Griffin has taken the mostly attention in that room because there's a lot of expectations around him. He has the potential to be one of these generational defensive linemen. But Xavier McLeod, like it is such an under similar to how Terrell Foster is. It's a very underrated player to have on your roster of a guy like Xavier McLeod who's, who's going to do his job every time. He's going to play sound football. He knows his job, he knows where to be and he knows how to play the position at a high level.

[Brooks Austin]

I know he was preseason first team all sec, but I think that's because he started for so long at this program and he wears the power G. We've talked about this, but I don't think we're talking enough about the fact that Ernest Green appears to finally be 100 healthy. That dude played with such. I don't want to out him, not out him, but I don't want to like explain what he was going through too much in detail last year. But just know he was not 100%. He was in and he was dealing with something that can oftentimes be so painful it's crippling. All right. Whatever lower back stuff last year, that was absolutely insane. And the fact that he continued to play football, it says, says a lot about his pain threshold and his pain tolerance. He was speaking to the media yesterday and I told the discord that's the best he's ever looked. Yeah, I mean he, I, I eyeballed him at about 6430-630-8309. Something around that range. I think he played at 330 last year. Like he, he has lost a ton of weight and I think a lot of that is because last year we, but we probably couldn't go. Yeah, that's what I couldn't work out. We probably couldn't practice like we want to. And when you get older, the moment, even at Georgia, the moment you get banged up, you probably don't need to be going through bloody Tuesdays.

[Brooks Austin]

You probably don't need to be going through Monday and Wednesday practices. You probably need to be rehabbing and getting treatment. And what that causes is you don't lose the weight that most people lose during the season. Most offensive linemen come into camp at their heaviest, and then they get lighter throughout the season until the winter comes and they start packing it on like bears. At least that's my experience. I would show up at Camp 305 in early, you know, late July. By the end of camp, I was 297. By the end of September, I was down to 290. And then as soon as Thanksgiving came, I was already back up to 305. Because once I stopped sweating, I started gaining weight. That's just the way I was as office. I mean, I think that's the history of most offensive linemen from my knowledge in football. Go ahead.

[Jonathan]

I was going to pile on with Ernest Green right there. Of I think too, like, it kind of got overlooked with how well he played last year, even despite his. Despite what he was dealing with. And a lot of people like this happened with both Ernest and Monroe freeing heading into last season. I'm not sure everybody remembers this, but heading into last season, people were terrified about Georgia's offensive tackle room. Like, people were like, monroe Freeling's not good enough because of how he played against Notre Dame.

Not in this place.

[Jonathan]

Yeah, not this place. But Georgia fans were very critical about Monroe, Freeling, and Ernest Green being the starters last year. Not knowing that Monroe Freeling was dealing with injuries at the end of the season, not knowing that Ernest Green was banged up. People were not happy that those are going to be the two options. And both of them ended up playing very well for Georgia last year, Ernest Green included in that. So the idea that he's now healthy and he looks the best that he ever has at Georgia might get even better for him.

[Brooks Austin]

I think I might have tweeted this. I have a photo of Ernest Green, his red shirt freshman year when the Brock Bowers game at Auburn and they scored touchdown late in that football game. And I take a photo of him coming off the field, and he's got the biggest smile on his face through his face mask. You can see it. Last year he's banged up. Couldn't play against Auburn. Remember, they're a rote. I mean, a Ferris wheel over there at right tackle. It's like, okay, Monroe's got the left side, but I mean, I guess we'll throw Bo Hughley out there. I get, heck, Michael knock. And you go out there and stand up and not, you know, act like both of your shoes are tied together. Like it was a revolving door. And they get out of that football game and they win. And I have basically the identical Picture of Ernest Green, who didn't get to play in that game because he was hurt. And most of the time young athletes are moping their way back to the locker room because they didn't get to play. And he's got the biggest smile on his face yet again. And that to me is the like a testament to who that young man is, how it's all about the team all the time. I think it says a lot about their culture as well. Damn good dog as a chat's talking about.

Yeah, I agree with that. 100. Another name I'm gonna throw out there. I think he kind of just stays on this list as well because like, like Zayden Walker. But London Humphreys is the king of under the radar guys, I think. And the reason why I put him on here is because I think he gets talked about plenty enough. Like I people I know that he's going to be in the mix. He's going to be one of the starters, he's a returning starter from last year, all that good stuff. But I think that people view London Humphreys as just one of those guys are like, yeah, he gets the nod because he's the older guy. Yeah, he gets the nod because he's been with the program multiple years. Like he's the highest returner in production in the wide receiver room. So, yeah, he's going to get the nod this year. But I think people kind of overlook the fact that London Humphreys has made big plays over his time at the University of Georgia and he showed up in big moments and when you need it most. So yeah, he may not be the guy that ends up with 800 receiving this season and he may not have the most touchdowns in that receiver room this year and he may get surpassed a little bit by some of the younger guys and overlooked a little bit. But 16 is going to do his job every single time. 16 will do anything it takes. Much like an earnest Green where if I got a block 30 times a game and I get the ball one time today, doesn't matter to me. We're here to win football games and that's a valuable aspect to have.

I told you going into camp over on Patreon, one of the biggest questions from inside the building and outside the building were who are going to be the six? They travel and really play a tight rotation. At wide receiver. It's normally six bodies, right? It's a starting three and then who are their backups and their backups always play. They might play less than some at some spots, right? Like Zachariah Branch didn't come off the field much last year whereas London Humphreys rotated. Colby Young didn't come off the field last year whereas the slot position might or the Z position might have rotated. But nonetheless they play six in a solid rotation most of the year. It seems like they got a pretty good hold or at least a pretty good lead on who the six are going to be. They know the starting three. It looks like it's going to be Isaiah Canyon, London Humphries and Zacobi White Hilton, Isaiah Canyon at X, London Szacoby in the slot and then I think behind them. If I were to pick it today, it would be C.J. wiley behind Isaiah Canyon, it would be Talon Taylor behind London Humphries and it would be Craig Dandridge in the slot. I Lun Lawson, Lucky said something about Craig Dandridge yesterday during player availability that made me perk up a little bit. He said that Craig walked up to him. He said they had a summer workout this, this off season where Lawson was dealing with a nagging injury and he just wasn't himself. He didn't say this, but he was kind of just getting through the workout because he was hurting and he wasn't being himself. He wasn't like leading from the front. He wasn't being loud, he wasn't, he wasn't being himself. And he said Craig Dandridge, a freshman, walked up to him and said, hey, you can't be a leader sometimes if you're going to lead this place, you got to lead this place all the time. And Glossin looked at him and said, all right, like you're right. Like that's the way it, that doesn't happen. No 19 year old young men do not walk up to redshirt seniors and say, hey, you're being a front runner today. That's not how we do it here. Huh?

Yeah. Especially like two a guy that's not necessarily in your position group. Like that's not a guy that he's probably running around with all the time. Like I'm sure that him and Lawson cross paths certainly because they play offense, but it's not a guy that he's rooming with or something like that. Like that's. That's crazy. That's awesome.

It's making my remember. Do you remember who I comped him to? And I don't know if it's gonna happen but God, he looks like him. He looks like Devontae Smith. Don't shoot the messenger, but like super rail thin but somehow has all this strength, electric speed, but never looks like he's fully sprinting. Just kind of jogs away from people running 22 miles an hour. That guy has a potential to be really, really special at the University of Georgia. A sub 11 second hundred meter runner multiple time 1400 yard plus in high school. The dude's got all the production in the world. I think that guy is going to be an absolute dog for a long time. Running backs look good today. I'm not going to tell you which ones, but they were. They were balling out now should be taken with a grain of salt. They were in spiders. I heard the operation is way ahead of where it normally is at this time of the year. And I think a lot of that is a testament to Kirby Smart and him. He did something with that OTA that he didn't. He didn't like what they did last year. He wanted to change it a lot this year and it seems like guys are up to a much higher speed from knowing what we're doing, knowing where we're going, knowing how we do it and getting it done. That's important early on in the year. You don't have to sit there and yammer through practice on why are we not lined up right? Why are we not doing this right? Why are we not this, that and the other. If guys know where they're supposed to be because OTAs were done correctly, that's a hot start that gets you off and out of the gates really, really quickly.

Yeah. So I mean, you know, any type of fall camp intel, we say this during the spring as well. Some of it you do have to take with a grain of salt as well. Like, we talk about it all the time. You can't take it all verbatim. All you know is like, hey, if we're saying so and so's looking good, hey, that's good news. That's great news. Take it with that way. Don't take it as well, why is this not happening? Or why is it that way? Just take the good news as it is.

I do want to say I know that he's considered the greatest wide receiver ever to play at Georgia, but AJ Green, I I is. The story always sticks in my head when I think about A.J. green. It was Muhammad Sanu talking about, I play with both Julio and A and he said when I was in Cincinnati, I could ask AJ Questions about route running or catching the ball or anything because AJ had to do those things. He had to work at that. He felt like he had to be great at those things and know the nuances to be great. When Bryson Beaver got in the game, that's all Christian wanted to talk about was, holy cow, I like this Bryson Beaver guy. And I think it's just because when you have like with a guy like Gunner Stockton, you know what you're going to get. You know what to expect from him. We know the names about Ryan Pisi. We know the names about Ryan Montgomery. And despite the fact that we haven't seen a whole lot of Ryan Pisi or Ryan Montgomery, those are familiar names. Bryson Montgomery or Bryson Beaver was the new toy on campus. That was the new name, the fresh name, something that we had not seen. And he played relatively well. So people really attract to that.

So I want preface the conversation with that. Like, this is not me saying that the window closes after this season for Georgia, because I would agree, as long as Kirby Smart is here, the window should always be open for a national title. The expectation should always be winning a national title. But I think it might be one of those years where if you don't get it done this year, you're definitely going to be disappointed. Just off of the sheer talent, obviously, that this roster has, but also because you know the amount of talent that you could that you're going to lose after this season. Like, just to rattle them off the top of my brain, let's just start with the defense. Chris Cole going to the league. Xavier McLeod is going to be done, I think, after this year. Joshua Horton going to be done after this year. I think he might have one more year. Jordan hall going to be done with eligibility this year. Gabe Harris and Q, both of them are going to be off the roster this year. Raylan Wilson is going to be done after this year. Justin Williams could come back, could go to the league. Ellis Robinson probably going to the league. Demelo Jones could come back, could go to the league. KJ Bolden going to the league. More than likely. Jamali Riddle, I believe, has the opportunity if he has a big year, going to the league. Khalil Barnes going to the league. Average here. That's just the defense that I talked about offensively. Gunner Stockton is in his last year. Nate Frazier is going to be up for the draft. Chauncey Bowen is going to be up for the draft. Isaiah Canyon could go to the draft this year. London Humphries could go to the draft this year. So Kobe White, if he bangs this first year, he could end up going to the draft if he wants to. Lawson Lucky, going to be done after this year. Tight end room, though, like Jaden Riddell could go to the NFL this year if he has a big enough season like we think he could after this season. Now you get Elias Williams, you get Ethan Barber, you get those guys. Juan Gaston gonna be hanging around. Donnie Glover gonna be hanging around. Zakai Helen gonna be hanging around. Ernest Green, though, gonna be off the roster. Drew Bobo could be off the roster after this year. Just like the amount of talent that is on this team and knowing that a lot of your starters are going to be leaving on both sides of the ball. It just feels like it's one of those years where it feels like you need to capitalize on it. Not saying that those guys that are coming back next year or could come back next year won't just line it back up and be one of the most talented rosters in all of college football, because I believe that they will be. But knowing the type of talent that you have, the type of players that you have, the type of difference makers that you have, it just feels like it could be one of those years where if you don't win a national title this year and you look back and like, those guys are in the league and we're seeing how great they truly are, it's like, dang, man, we, like, we really had one of the best rosters in college football. We didn't get it done.

What if you. What if you bring in like a top three quarterback transfer, though?

[Jonathan]

And that's the other thing, like you're gonna be in a QB battle, so. But yeah, I mean, if you get one of the best arms in the transfer portal and you hit on that one, that certainly probably alleviates some of the concerns that you have for Georgia going into next season. But I don't know. You don't know. You. Like, that's. You don't know the future of the room at the moment. Like right now, the assumption is Ryan Puglisi will be the leader of taking over that room, but we truly don't know the answer to that question. We don't know who's going to really separate themselves or if somebody will separate themselves in that room. If Jaden Wade gets in the mix next year, what does that do to the room? Do you get a transfer quarterback? Who is it going to be? You can't forecast. Forecast those things just yet, but there just be some questions at some major spots, if you will. I think that's the best way to put it.

No, I agree. I agree with that. Not saying that it's going to close this year, but it could be one of those years. You look back and like, dank. That should have been a team that did it.

I want to see Ryan Puglisi play though, this year. Like, first two weeks, I want to see him actually be able to run the offense. Offense, it's really not even gonna be the second week either. I can promise you right now they will not embarrass Western Kentucky.

Yeah.

I can promise you right now there are five football coaches, at least on that staff that worked for Kirby Smart. It will not happen. So when the backup gets in up 35, nothing in the second half, if they're going to score 45 points, it's going to be because they ran it down their throat.

And they wouldn't stop them. Tennessee State, on the other hand, you might get it ran up on you just because we're in a day and age of college football where if you don't know your future at the quarterback position, you're in more, you're, you're in more dire circumstances than ever before because you actually have the opportunity to address it, whereas in years prior you just, okay, well, this is what it is. We gotta go like, this guy's got to develop this offseason. This is going to be our dude. And I've always said this about quarterback, like, there is no way to truly know in practice. Yeah, there's just no way to know. I thought the most, most reassuring thing that like, I knew Carson Beck was going to be really good the moment he was going to start at Georgia, and we talked about that all off season. It's one of my greatest preseason predictions. I said Carson Beck will lead the country in completion percentage his first year starting before he ever took a snap as a starter. And he went on to do it. Now, I knew that because you could see all of his abilities as a like pure progressive passer, as in mop up duty. Because that 2022 team was beating the brake drums off of everybody. So we actually got to see him really run the offense. That's the last backup quarterback to have that opportunity. We haven't had that since then.

So I think it's very important that you guys handle business to the point where Ryan Puglisi or Ryan Montgomery, whoever it is, can actually go in there and play offense multiple games.
