stream paradise on Hulu and Hulu on Disney. Hello, everyone. I'm Dana Perino along with Kellyanne Conway, Harold Ford Jr. Jesse Watters, and Brian Kilmeade. It's five o' clock in Washington and this is the five. And we are just hours away from President Trump's first State of the Union address of his second term. And it looks like he's taking a little pause from the prep to bring the men's hockey team into the Oval Office for a little pep talk and celebration. They'll be at the speech tonight. Much more on that coming up in just a moment. But, but in the meantime, get ready for a late night.
Jesse Watters
We have a country that's now doing well. We have the greatest economy we've ever had. We have the most activity we've ever had. I'm making a speech tomorrow night and you'll be hearing me say that. I mean, it's, it's going to be a long speech because we have so much to talk about.
Dana Perino
President Trump certainly teasing a long speech. He says he has plenty of wins to talk about securing the border, foreign policy and lower inflation. The president telling Brett Baier this. The country will see the best three years on the economy in the nation's history. And it's already started. Press Secretary Caroline Levitt laying out more of what to expect. Watch. You're going to hear President Trump tackle that message head on tonight. And I know he's greatly looking forward to addressing the nation. His speech is going to be a celebration of the 250th year of America's independence. He is going to share the stories of great American heroes who exemplify bravery and the speech spirit of 1776. And the President is of course, going to tout his administration's record setting accomplishments over the past year while laying out an ambitious agenda to continue making the American dream more attainable and affordable for working class people across the country. And Kellyanne, it is a chance for a president to say, okay, here's what I've done in the first year and here's where we are going. So it's a big rate. It'll have a big rating. A lot of people watching in a lot of different ways. All the social media, what do you expect?
Kellyanne Conway
I expect that President Trump will review for us his first year in office. And I think the theory, the case, Dana, for year one of Trump, too is investing in America that undergirds his one big beautiful bill. Preserving that corporate tax rate at 21% so that those companies then can invest in their workers, raise the wages, provide better benefits. Go ahead and tell those who are not getting a college degree, you can work also, you can provide for your family in this country. Technical, vocational, educational skills are very much back in fashion because of President Trump, the energy dominance. He was able to unpause those LNG permits that were paused by Biden, stop that war on fossil fuels, on fracking, look at non subsidized solar and renewables. He's also going to talk, I think, about some new things like AI, if not crypto. In other words, here's a guy who's doing the bread and butter center right issues as president and he's delivered on those promises mightily. But I think he's going to dip into AI. He wants those data centers built. He wants us to embrace the next technological frontier in a way that makes us more efficient. Look, this is not aspirational. This is a man who is executed. He's a dealmaker who's delivered. He's a peacemaker who I think is able to enter that hall. I did it four times with him. He's able to enter that hall, feel that moment and feel the gravity of his position. But he also gets a lot of joy on the job. He loves seeing, thinking about the guests. It's a very curated process who the first lady and the President will invite in the box. He will appeal to all of them. He will mention some of them by name. And they're different, I think travels. And I think President Trump is better than most, Dana, at conveying to us the real people impact, what I call the rpi. Who, who is really being impacted by the policies of this first year. And look, we even forget that they shut down the border almost a year ago. It was done so quickly and so efficiently that it's almost in the rear view. But that's a, that's still a big part of his polling. Put the ICE stuff aside for the moment. Big part of his polling is that he kept that big promise for national security and national sovereignty. One last thing. It is America's 250th. He's just going to appeal to the pride and patriotism of every America. We want America's 250th to be for all 350 million Americans, including a lot of the Democrats who aren't even showing up tonight.
Dana Perino
Yeah, we'll talk about that in the next block. Indeed. And Jessie, last year, one of the things I remember thinking is that. I'm sorry, two years ago, the question was, can Biden get through the speech the next four years for President Trump? This time around, it's basically to remind people that President Biden was president and that they inherited quite a lot of problems in terms of the border and certainly the economy and inflation.
Brian Kilmeade
Remember the last time Biden gave this speech, he was 15 minutes late and we thought there was a medical emergency. But there will be no more emergencies tonight. Except you're going to stay up past midnight, Dana.
Dana Perino
Yeah, because it's an emergency.
Brian Kilmeade
I interviewed him after he gave the RNC speech and I said, Mr. President, that was a long speech. And he said, jesse, when that works, give you the time, you take the time. So he's going to take all the time he needs and he deserves a lot of time. Because you agree I'm the most objective person on this table, right? Objectively, Dana, this has been one of the best first years in the history of the presidency. Rates, rent, crime, crossings, all down. He got handed 3.0 inflation, got it down to 2.4% with the tariffs, and that's because he kept energy prices low. He's going to try to press his advantage with the Democrats because he's going to announce things that no one can sit down and not clap. He's going to announce all of these great metrics like baby bonuses. He's getting $1,000 for a new baby. How are Democrats going to sit there and not clap at that? He's going to announce Maduro's capture. He might bring Maduro out in handcuffs and say, I got him. How are Democrats not going to clap? So that's going to be the big contrast tonight. But then he has to lay out a very ambitious agenda. What's he going to do next? What is it going to be? It might be a surprise, it might be voter id, but he's got to make sure the House and the Senate keep pushing the agenda forward. We could see some surprises. And then he's got the midterms, and so he's got to frame it. The Democrats, if you give them power, if you have the Republicans keep control, what's the difference? And we saw the difference. The Democrats were just in power and they blew it. So we can't go back to that. He's got to push the agenda forward. And then finally you mentioned it, kellyanne, this is America's 250th birthday and how fortunate it is for the president to be president during the 250 year birthday. So you'll hear a lot of themes of patriotism, of American exceptionalism. And he'll have some personal stories. We can talk about heroism. And you'll see the hockey guys out there and everybody will be clapping for the hockey guys. The hockey guys may not even know what's going on because they're just a wee bit hungover. But if we can just keep this momentum going. I know you're not going to change things right away. Still kind of hungover from Bidenomics. But if he could just make sure the country understands where we were and where we're going, we'll be in a pretty good place to restore the American dream.
Dana Perino
Harold, it's great to be with you at this weirdly shaped table. How do you see a president's second, well, second year and this State of the Union, especially heading into the midterms. Are Democrats looking for anything in particular?
Harold Ford Jr.
First off, good to be with you. I'm always inspired when this is my background. It's the greatest city, one of the greatest cities in the world, and certainly one of the greatest backdrops you could have. I'd say a couple of things. We're in a very different spot than we were a year ago. I remember being here for the president's joint session speech and there was a lot of optimism, a lot of confidence. The president remains optimistic and remains confident. But there's a record here. I think the president tonight is probably looking for a little bit of a reset. You think about where the data is, the polling data. The most reliable polling data are elections. We had some last November. We've had a few sprinkled in between since then. And now Democrats are performing well. If you look at the polling data, two out of three Americans disapprove of the president's job performance and three out of four independents disapprove of his job performance. He's got a lot of time to correct it. And tonight is one of those starts. I thought it was interesting when the president went to Georgia, he said that the affordability issue is fixed. It's not. If you look at the polling data, the number one concern for voters are prices, cost of living. And the president makes the case, as Kellyanne was saying, that we're going to have a great second, third and fourth quarter, that when the tax cuts hit in and when people get their tax refund. The economy is going to boom. I hope for the country's sake that is the case. And I hope for the president's case. I'm a Democrat, but I hope for his case that that indeed is for his sake that indeed is the case. But he's going to have to do a little more. He talks a lot about things, but he doesn't follow through. We talk about reducing drug prices. He put up a great plan two weeks ago. I don't know what he's done. He talks about housing prices, lowering them. He talks about Fannie and Freddie being more in helping to backstop and own mortgages, which could reduce the price of a home. He's done nothing on that front. Health care costs, emergency room costs are rising. People are facing longer waits. These are the kinds of things I hope the president talks about tonight. I know we'll talk about in the next segment, but I hope all Democrats go tonight. Hope all Republicans.
Dana Perino
You are not going to get your wish on that. It's up to over 70 at this point, Brian, in a lot of ways, because the president is doing so much all at once, it is hard to keep track. The Cabinet has been out. They talk about all sorts of things from renewable energies and debris. Some of the things are just like not that exciting to talk about necessarily, but they do make a difference for everyday people that are trying to get their permits done in order to build something. But he also has a lot of geopolitical planes in the air that he's trying to land. Some of them have been landed successfully, but there are a couple of sticky wickets out there.
Jesse Watters
Yeah, Danny, you don't win the midterms in February, just like you cannot win the World Series if you're a baseball fan in April. And whatever you do and you line up in order to be successful when it matters, and that's in the fall. And the one thing I would say to the polls, you're right. Some people are not happy with the polls and WABC and the Washington Post poll. But when they asked, who do you trust more in the economy, Trump still wins by two points over any Democrat. Somehow Trump's got to make Democrats answer this question. What would you do besides we want to make things affordable? We've seen your act. You have nothing except raising taxes and attacking Trump. And a little bit later, we'll talk about Robert De Niro, who cried about it. I also think there's a few other things he could point to. The Maha movement, I think, is going great. You know, the Workers, families, tax cut. He created the Trump accounts, which are strong. I'm not sure they're going to cheer for that. But I will say they're going to cheer for things like the hockey team. They're going to cheer for the fact that I don't know if people know that, know it or not, but in the Maduro capture, one of the helicopter pilots was severely wounded, almost lost his leg. He's going to be there. Are they going to sit on their hands for that moment? There's A World War II vet about 100 years old is going to be there. Are Dems going to sit there with popsicle signs again and ignore that moment? I think it's interesting Trump's going to go 90 minutes, but just when you think it's going to be all about Donald Trump, he's going to bring in other people to make it more of a shell because Trump's got that sense of what you need to sell the story. I think Democrats embarrassed themselves last year. Some will be balking. But I'm hopeful they won't make this because the whole world's watching. Please don't embarrass yourselves again. And the by acting like children, you lost an election, you could win the next one. At that time, I want nobody, no Marjorie Taylor Greene screen screaming out, I don't want to hear any Joe Wilson say you lied. And I don't want to hear what I saw with Al Green shaking his cane. It's embarrassing to the country.
Dana Perino
All right. Well, so we are just getting started with our State of the Union coverage which is under four hours from now. We also want to bring you this, a FOX News alert. Savannah Guthrie posting a very heartbreaking video this morning on the search for her mother, Nancy, and she is now offering a new million dollar reward. Let's go to Max Gordon. He is outside Nancy Guthrie's house today for an update. Hi, Max.
Max Gordon
Hey there, Dana. Well, several new updates on the case today. There are now questions about the timeline of when everything happened in this case. Savannah Guthrie posting that new heartbreaking video this morning. And then new information on the DNA evidence that was found inside Nancy Guthrie's home. According to two federal law enforcement sources that spoke to Fox Digital, the DNA samples from the home came back to people who had reason to be there. And then one partial sample yielded a result that couldn't be checked by the FBI's CODIS database. This comes as a source close to the investigation tells Fox Digital the suspect caught on Guthrie's doorbell camera may have shown up before her disappearance. The Pima County Sheriff's Office has called this speculation, saying all the photos released by the FBI were from February 1st, the day Nancy went missing. But according to the source cited by Fox Digital, one of the images released to the public was taken on a different date. And then this morning, Savannah Guthrie released another heart wrenching video. In it, she acknowledged that her mother may not be found alive and pleaded for anyone with information on Nancy's whereabouts to come forward, announcing that the family would pay up to $1 million for information leading to her recovery.
Kellyanne Conway
Please keep praying without ceasing. We still believe. We still believe in a miracle. We still believe that she can come home.
Max Gordon
It is now day 24 of the search for Nancy Guthrie. Law enforcement still hasn't named a suspect or a reason for her disappearance. Dana, back to you.
Dana Perino
No. Well, we do heed the call to prayer, Savannah. Thank you, Max. We'll be keeping a close eye on all of those developments. And coming up, Democrats will do absolutely anything to avoid President Trump's State of the Union speech, including this.
Jesse Watters
People have asked whether or not I'm going to attend the State of the Union address. I'd rather stick needles in my eyeballs just to say we did.
Kellyanne Conway
Just to feel alive, to take a leap of faith. This is Ainsley Earhart. Thank you for joining me for the 52 episode podcast series, the Life of
Jesse Watters
Jesus, A listening experience that will provide hope, comfort and understanding of the greatest story ever told. Listen and follow now@foxnewspodcasts.com or wherever you listen to podcasts. All right. Dozens of defiant Democrats boycotting tonight's State of the Union address. More than 70 total. Our producers did not have enough space on the screen to fit their faces in. Many are going to not one, but two counter rallies. I hope they could divide their time enough. All in an attempt to stick it to the president. As if it's going to hurt his feelings. Some are racing to social media, posting videos about their protests.
Brian Kilmeade
I will not be attending the State of the Union.
Jesse Watters
I've never missed one.
Kellyanne Conway
I refuse to show up for this fascist. Yes, I'm boycotting. I won't legitimize him.
Jesse Watters
I'd rather stick needles in my eyeballs.
Dana Perino
I would rather stick forks in my
Jesse Watters
eyes than be here tonight to listen
Harold Ford Jr.
to Donald Trump talk about the State of the Union.
Jesse Watters
But this is the People's House, and
Dana Perino
I will not abandon the People's House. All right.
Jesse Watters
Meanwhile, Hakeem Jeffries is telling his party to zip their lips, calling for it to be silent. Defiant. So they avoid embarrassing moments like last year's paddle waving spectacle. Our own. I shouldn't say our own. I should say Congressman Al Green's infamous cane waving shout fest.
Harold Ford Jr.
Well, listen, it's my expectation that members who choose to attend will be there in silent defiance, of course, skeptical of the remarks that the president is going to try to deliver in terms of his spin.
Jesse Watters
So there you go. Dana. What do you think's going to happen because Dems want to steal the show by not showing up to the show?
Dana Perino
Well, I guess it's one way to get a headline, but it's sort of like cotton candy, right. It melts on contact.
Jesse Watters
Right.
Dana Perino
And it's a sugar high for half a second and then it goes away. But one of the things I think that is happening is that you have to look at who is funding some of these big events. I don't necessarily think about the Hollywood one but you know, Arabella advisors or the other dark money groups that are like George Soros, right. Like they fund all of these groups and then they come in and on the America's State of The Union, America 250, they have a big event and says, well, you were elected to represent your people from your hometown or your home state and you won't go and listen to the President of the United States even if you want to sit on your hands. It's weird to not want to show up for your job. It is strange to me to run for office and then not want to actually be there to be a part of what is a tradition. You might hate it, you might despise the speech, but you could go. I do think that going to see Robert De Niro and Mark Ruffalo is a strange thing. Like Democrats think that some Democrats think that the solace that they could find in Hollywood is going to help them. But what some of them might be able to do, like I imagine this is why Senator Schiff did this, is that these little quick hits get you these small dollar donations. Right. So then what's happening is that you have responses. You have the official Democratic response from Abigail Spanberger. More to come on that if you want. But then you also have a working families response. Then you have a Spanish language response. Like to me the Democrats have a lot of disunity except for one thing. They obviously all got on a conference call and did the bat signal to find out that they were supposed to say they would rather stick needles in their eyeballs than go to the speech.
Jesse Watters
Absolutely.
Dana Perino
That's the one thing they can Agree on.
Jesse Watters
And on Governor Spanberger, your thoughts about the pressure on Fur to do something significant. Cuz everyone's saying she's the star in the so called moderate.
Dana Perino
So two years ago I was like, wow, she's like, she's great. But then Jessie opened my eyes and then she became the governor. And I'm thinking, wait, how can you run as somebody who's going to be this moderate Democrat who is like yelling at the Democratic Party, yelling at the Biden people, saying, you're going way too far left, you're pulling this party too far left. We have to be more moderate. And then the first thing she does when she gets in there is talk about tax increases, not cooperating with ice, all of the things that are going to hurt Virginia and wipe out what Governor Youngkin was able to do, which was a very good job for that state.
Jesse Watters
Jesse, I think the president is coming because he was invited by the speaker. That's the formal thing. I'd like you to come down and tell us the State of the Union. If Hakeem Jeffress becomes speaker, I bet you the next shoe to drop will be, I'm not inviting him. I mean, that's. That's where we're heading, isn't it?
Brian Kilmeade
Dana just said I opened her eyes. So just trying to process that for a second feels good. Barack Obama said, there's not a liberal America, there's not a conservative America. There's a United States of America. Joe Biden always saying, we can do everything we want to if we just work together. Schumer, Hakeem, bipartisanship, reach across the aisle. And the one night of national unity, State of the Union, they boycott. And not only just boycott, it is a historic boycott, and you're starting to see a pattern. Whenever there's a moment of national unity, the Dems don't get down with it. Like the Olympics. Everyone's happy about the hockey and they just dump all over it. Super bowl bad bunny. Couldn't understand it. Okay, Thanksgiving. They tell people not to invite us to Thanksgiving. They say, don't even date a. This is what's going on here. We have to, as grownups do things sometimes we don't want to do, like Brian's book parties. I don't want to go. But you show up, the right thing to do, and I respect that. And these people are getting paid to come here tonight. It's like a game of hooky. And if you're like an AOC who's running for president or you're like an Eric Swalwell, who's running for governor. Don't you want to show the people back home you're in the game? There's 10 million eyeballs on the screen tonight. Show up. Even if you got a little sour puss look on your face, at least show your voters you're in it.
Jesse Watters
Harold, in this world, if you were a Democrat still serving in Congress, it would be probably you and John Fetterman shoulder to shoulder and a lot of empty seats because you are somebody who does bring the country together.
Harold Ford Jr.
I think it's a tradition that you must uphold. People have a right to do what they want. But I wouldn't do it if I remember privileged to be a member of the Senate or the house out of 10. I think it's an opportunity to give the president a chance to be held accountable. Whichever party the president is in and whichever party you might be in. The president made promises last year. He'll make promises this year. And if you believe he hasn't delivered on those promises, listen to the speech and go out afterwards and say, here's what I want to do. Here's what I think he should do. Otherwise, two, there are a lot of things that the president I hope is going to talk more about tonight, affordability being one of them, the Ukraine war and even we seem to be on the precipice of the military engagement in the Middle east with the Iranians. I don't believe we have talked sufficiently. The president has not talked sufficiently to the country about this. This is the biggest audience he's going to have. As you said this morning on Fox and Friends, the biggest audience he will have between now and the midterm, certainly between now and if there's some military engagement or some military strikes done there. So if you choose not to go, that's on you. But I don't think it's good for, for the body politic. There'll be a Democrat in office. And if Republicans decide to follow this tradition, we're going to find ourselves where, I think one of you said where the speaker may not even invite the president. The president's in the opposite. That would be bad.
Jesse Watters
I would actually that was my, my thought. And, and Jesse, I do think you are bringing the country together. You unified. I think you impressed Dana. The rest is the best is yet to come. I tell you what, Kellyanne, I think that Harold's 100% right about Iran, but I think that's a separate speech. I think he mentions it as a way to salute our troops, but I think that should be a separate speech. What do you think?
Kellyanne Conway
Well, it is front and center. It's hot right now at Davos. When he gave his presentation, part of it was a preview of the State of the Union, in my view. He talked a lot about domestic policy as well as geopolitical strategies, but he didn't do much Iran, because the armada was headed there at the time. Now I think he will dip into it and maybe talk about the Iranian people. Look what he's trying to do with the Venezuelan people, the Cuban people. So he is very focused on their suffering. But I want to get back the Democratic Party are segments about these people who will not show up to a constitutionally mandated event. The State of the Union as presented by a president. This is the modern Democratic Party, everyone. They where are the pro lifers, where the pro second Amendment ones who voted for a tax cut, who's for drag energy dominance, who's applauding lower crime in their cities and states because of President Trump's policies? So they're against all of that by din of not showing up. The modern Democratic Party, Brian, is to protest, perform and then post it. And taking a stand is different than making a scene. You said earlier they're acting like children. That's really mean to children. You didn't take it back. And I'll just say this. The Democrats, Dana said they've got this response, the Spanish response. So Alex Padilla, the senator from California who I think has Kamala Harris old seat, and it was honestly not even an improvement. He's giving the. He's given his response in Spanish. He's the bad bunny of the United States Senate tonight. What is going a working families response. They have a governor's response, but they have no response at all to affordability, to energy, to crime, to the border, no response on policy. And I want the American people to know, just because they don't show up, they didn't do a damn thing today for you on the cost of living, on the quality of life, on your security, your affordability, your fairness, your energy, your kids education. They're all against school choice. They're all against kids in this country being stuck behind the schoolhouse door. They refused to let kids of all backgrounds out of failing schools to go and access a quality education worthy of their humanity and dignity. They all voted against that in the one big beautiful bill. So I want people to see who they are. Last point, Hakeem Jeffries is telling them, either sit there in silence and defiance, I guess, silent defiance, or don't come because he knows it's such a bad look for them heading into the midterms. We don't hear from them ever. That guy Jim McGovern, I'm going to stick needles in my eyes. He should be in a Viagra commercial. He should not be in the Congress. And Hakeem Jeffries knows this is a bad look for the Democratic Party. If they all get up and start hooting and hollering. But make no mistake, they've done it. The kid with cancer, Grace, pediatric cancer, they were against her, Lake and Riley's mom, they're against veterans. They won't stand up for anybody, but they won't show up for you, the people.
Harold Ford Jr.
Brian, I'm going to be curious to see if the president criticizes the courts. He was very critical after the tariff decision. I hope he does not. It'll be very interesting to see if he if he refers to them as unpatriotic fools like he did after the decision.
Jesse Watters
I hope he doesn't either because remember the blowback that President Obama got justifiably.
Harold Ford Jr.
I do. It was wrong then. It'd be wrong tonight too.
Jesse Watters
And you saw it.
Dana Perino
Besides, next week they might go his way in the Voting Rights Act.
Jesse Watters
That's true. Yes, it's true.
Harold Ford Jr.
Or maybe they'll just follow the Constitution. That's what we should be fair.
Dana Perino
Good point.
Jesse Watters
So, Mr. President, please don't comment on the Supreme Court justices. Up next, a shameful new low. The liberal media is dismissing President Trump's event with angel families.
Kellyanne Conway
Ray Charles, President Trump is set to tout a very secure border at tonight's State of the Union. Yesterday he was honoring angel families at the White and in an emotional ceremony remembering loved ones lost to criminal, illegal, illegal aliens. But the liberal media world would rather play down those families. White House press secretary Caroline Levitt is calling out the New York Times and the Washington Post for pushing the same tire Democrat talking points on how the quote, data shows immigrants are less likely to commit crimes. And check out the dismissive way a CNN guest referred to to the grieving mothers.
Dana Perino
We're actually getting a little preview of
Kellyanne Conway
kind of the theme of his address later today at the White House when
Dana Perino
he hosts the so called angel moms.
Kellyanne Conway
And so really focusing on immigration as
Dana Perino
he kicks off his big state of Union week.
Kellyanne Conway
You know, Brian, they've been referring to them as the so called angel moms since the first term. Laura Wilkerson, I met her during the campaign, she said yesterday, this man's been there for 11 years for me. Why can't the media just say angel moms and take a moment to honor them.
Jesse Watters
Yeah. I mean, you could honestly say, well, I don't like the idea of you chasing down people who are on roofs or in the back of pickup trucks who are landscapers. At the same time, understand that the president's primary goal is and the image that he has in his head is people and families victimized by fentanyl. The number two is the angel moms. People who are their kids were tortured, killed by illegal immigrants who owned business here, who had criminal records and it didn't seem to matter. The other thing that you know, and most people may not understand is the President has sustained relationships with all these families. It goes back years and you don't see it in front of the camera. It's phone calls that are not on camera that shows people are still in touch. It's hey, why don't you come to the White House? Why don't I give you a tour? When he calls to say we're going to actually do a ceremony, they would bring the other side of the immigration debate out. They rip cnn. They said, why do you not cover this? You cover everything, but you choose not to carry any of this live. He said the same thing about NBC too. That's called a balanced wave approach. You could be as critical as you want. Can you at least approach the balance to this issue? And just so you know, this is sustained. Robert De Niro might not understand sustained relationship with families that he simply cares about and for them he's following through on illegal immigration.
Kellyanne Conway
No question, Jesse. I think the Democrats are reminding everybody they're soft on crime. They didn't say so called Russia collusion, but they say so called angel mobs.
Brian Kilmeade
Well, I know this trick because I've used this trick. I used to say Barack Obama's so called birth certificate. I've had this trick used on me. You so called helped around the house, Jesse. It's when you purposely delegitimize whatever the other person's issue is. And they don't like to talk about angel moms because it humanizes the issue of illegal immigration. And they don't want it to be humanized. They want it to be an abstract issue that they don't have to process with their so called hearts. It also humanizes Donald Trump because as you've so rightly said, he has forged a deep emotional connection with these women and it cuts against the stereotype of him as this crass, evil, unempathetic gentleman who doesn't care about women. And children. And everybody knows that's not true. And so I just hope that they can find a place in their so called hearts to just be an American and care about whoever passes away. Savannah Guthrie's mother could have been abducted by an illegal alien. What are they going to say then? Is that going to humanize the issue for them? I hope that's not true, but that that is a possibility.
Jesse Watters
They'll stop carrying. They'll stop covering it.
Kellyanne Conway
Harold. In a past State of the Union Democrats did not stand for angel families. When they were acknowledged, they should have.
Harold Ford Jr.
We should honor not only these families, but we should honor families, moms and families whose kids have been shot by anybody. Shame on anyone for not for calling this so called. Although in our setting in the thing here, I didn't see any Democrats. I saw a reporter saying so called. I can't find in our notes here. Maybe some Democrats have done it. I'm not saying. But I'm one Democrat that believes and remembers that the last time that the Congress and a president signed a crime bill was a Democrat named Bill Clinton. I remember the last election in 24. I was supportive of President Trump's call to end no cash bail. We've yet to end no cash bail. These are the things the Democrats should be talking about. But let me be clear. I don't want to get worked up here. We should honor these families and we should honor every American family. Whether your loved one was, was assassinated or killed by an illegal or an American. God bless those families.
Kellyanne Conway
Dana, the so called reporters won't do that.
Dana Perino
Yeah, I've dealt with the so called thing as a press secretary for a long time and I would just recommend that every reporter take the. So if it's, if it's dealing with people, eliminate so called from your vocabulary. Put it in your spell check that says make sure that I don't ever refer to a human as a so called something. Now you could say, you could call it the so called inflation reduction act as I did making fun of it. But I think that that would just be a good practice when it's. People set that aside. I thought the President's event was moving and smart, right? Strategic. One of the things you can do as a president is you can make sure you can get all eyes on me. Right? So years and years ago we did an event for snowflake children. These are children who were frozen NBOs that were then adopted by couples who couldn't make their own and brought these babies to full term. And then we had this all These snowflake children in the White House. Do you think the media would ever have covered snowflake children if we hadn't brought them to the White House? But they did and you forced them to do that. And that's what the President was able to do in addition to keeping the bonds really strong. The other thing is when you say when you have your number one issue as closing the border or dealing with illegal immigration and you become President of the United States on January 20th and on January 27th, the issue is solved, then you have to remind people what you have done. So that's, I think that was also part of it leading up to tonight.
Kellyanne Conway
I hope he reminds him, go to the border.
Jesse Watters
Go to the border. Make everyone look at the wall.
Kellyanne Conway
Yes. Up next, America's gold medal hockey heroes hanging out with President Trump before his State of the Union speech.
Dana Perino
Tonight.
Jesse Watters
AB I'm never, I'm not giving it back.
Dana Perino
I'm not giving it.
Jesse Watters
I'll trade you that for a pen. Hey, that's cool.
Harold Ford Jr.
There we go.
Jesse Watters
I never thought I'd ever have this on my case.
Harold Ford Jr.
Congrats to those boys. Tonight's State of the Union is going to feel extra patriotic. The gold medal winning men's hockey team and congratulations to the women's are now in D.C. for Mr. Trump's speech meeting with the President himself in the Oval Office. Star player Jack Hughes says attending tonight is not political, it's patriotic. Watch this.
Brian Kilmeade
Everything is so political. We're just, we're athletes. We're so proud to represent the U.S. and when you get the chance to go to the White House, meet the President, you know, we're proud to be Americans and you know, that's so patriotic. So no matter what your views are, we're super excited to go to the White House tomorrow and just be a part of that.
Harold Ford Jr.
Brian, you've written about sports. He said the USA Hockey is, the brotherhood is so strong. How did you feel watching that game?
Jesse Watters
It was great seeing them there tonight. I noticed when you hear their post game interviews, they never talk about themselves, they always talk about their teammates. It's not just the Goudreaus who tragically were killed while riding their bike. And at least one of them would have been on this team, possibly the captain, but they put the jersey up
Harold Ford Jr.
there as they stepped to the ground
Jesse Watters
and then they brought the kids down. It's unbelievable. And the Quinn brothers are a great story. And every time people try to make it political, they push back effectively. I want to salute USA Hockey. USA Hockey is going out of their way to say make the most of these moments instead of holding these guys back. I'm afraid of go out there and talk. And they're not coaching. They say be yourselves. And the reason why people like walking into hockey locker rooms when I used to cover all this more than any of the locker rooms is because they look you in the eye. I'm talking about everybody, the highest level. They answer your questions and they appreciate, they appreciate the coverage and much different from baseball and football. And we're seeing that today. The women aren't going to be there, but the women gave a nice statement after. We appreciate it. We just have previous. We have other commitments. There's no controversy with the women.
Harold Ford Jr.
Dana Perrino on sports, what do you think?
Dana Perino
Well, I don't know about so much about sports. I love it and I think, you know, it's a time honored tradition and it's wonderful. And I do love the fact that they're like the tennis players that were down in Australia who kept getting asked about ice and they never fell for it. They just continued to represent America, say, I'm focused on the game and I love my country. And that was really great. I will say that for all those hockey players, there are many, many single ladies of your age that I've been talking to that are interested in meeting
Harold Ford Jr.
you prime time, your thoughts.
Brian Kilmeade
And they don't care how many teeth
Dana Perino
you have in your mouth. That's true. They're excited.
Jesse Watters
They all have dental. They just don't use it.
Brian Kilmeade
Seventy Democrats, Harold, are not showing up to give a round of applause for the gold medal winners for American hockey. I just have to. And these guys have handled it with such class and maturity. It's just I'm so proud of them. And they're not wearing red hats, they're wearing red, white and blue. And that's what it's all about.
Harold Ford Jr.
Kellyanne.
Kellyanne Conway
I was a couple doors down from them in Miami last night and the crowds were electric. They were so excited to know they were there. Good for them. 250 years of grit and perseverance and resilience and the Davids being the Goliaths. And I think these young men are the least example of that. USA all the way.
Harold Ford Jr.
We can all learn something from Jack and Quinn's mom, Ms. Ellen Hughes, who said that athletes focus on humanity, unity and their country. God bless these boys. Congratulations to them and the women. Coming up, the one thing Trump, President Trump needs to do tonight,
Dana Perino
All this
Brian Kilmeade
aggravation and satisfaction in me, President Trump telling Bret Baier that tonight's speech is a celebration of America 250 and how well the country's doing. Now. Kellyanne, what are you looking for tonight?
Kellyanne Conway
I think she'd break out into the YMCA at some point.
Dana Perino
That's a great idea.
Kellyanne Conway
Little bit of levity just came to my mind. But basically he, he ran on they broke it. We'll fix it. He's in the process of fixing it. That takes more than a year, but what a phenomenal year it's been. So he'll tick through the list. There he is. But I think he's going to have some fun up there. He's a performer. He understands the stagecraft. He understands the substance and he loves his country and he wants everybody else to love this country in this historic America 250 year.
Brian Kilmeade
Hey, he was a TV producer. Harold, what do you think's going to happen?
Harold Ford Jr.
He will be, as everybody said, a great showman tonight. I hope he gets specific about how to lower prices. We've been rightly critical of Democrats not having a problem plan. But what we've seen over the last year is the president's implemented a plan with tariffs at the heart of it and it hasn't lowered prices. So I'm looking to hear how the president's going to do that over the next year. For that matter. Next to it.
Brian Kilmeade
Well, the inflation rate has gone down.
Harold Ford Jr.
Harold, since actually has gone back up.
Brian Kilmeade
Well, actually it's 2.4%. It's lower than any year Biden was president.
Dana Perino
Dana, I like all those things. I would add draw contrast because the polls might not be great, but as Brian pointed out in the first block, if you compare President Trump and the economy, immigration, you can go down the list. Energy. The people still trust Republicans and President Trump over the Democrats. So I would draw the contrast and they're. Well, he could actually point to the empty seats.
Jesse Watters
That's right.
Dana Perino
That's empty of ideas. Empty seats. There's no reason for them to be.
Jesse Watters
I would real quick. I would point out what's not working. I'd say, hey, beef is too high. I'm working on that. It's a lot to do with no cattle because they thought they would destroy the ozone later. That was wrong. There's some drought that's hurting bananas and the coffee. We're working on that. But here's what I'm going to do. And somehow bring up Iran. I agree with you. Also enjoy yourself and also do not attack the Supreme Court justices. Don't give everyone a layup. Don't say don't do what President Obama did and most of all, just Mr. President, enjoy yourself. This, this is what you work so hard to get.
Brian Kilmeade
You know, if you tell him he's not to do something so many times, he's going to do it. Just let it maybe not let it go. One More thing up next.
Dana Perino
Now it's time for ONE MORE Thing. Jesse.
Brian Kilmeade
All right. Tonight we'll have special coverage of the State of the union, 8pm Eastern. Check it out.
Dana Perino
Okay, I'm going to do just show you here in Brooklyn, you got to see Snowman Henge. This is a historic blizzard. It's like over 20 inches of snow there. It was incredible. They made a ton of snowmen, not just one snowman. But look at this in Brooklyn. Only in New York would you see that. Also, tonight's special coverage of the State of the Union speech. Harold and I will be a part of that.
Harold Ford Jr.
Harold St. Francis, the namesake of the late Pope Francis, has its skeleton on exhibition in Italy. Last time this was seen was in 1978. It will be on display until March 22nd. God bless the Catholic Church.
Dana Perino
All right, Brian.
Jesse Watters
All right, Real quick, I'm going to be talking about America 250 in Reno, Nevada. I'm streaming on Fox Nation along with Evansville, Indiana. Also, we love bald eagles. When they're in distress, we are there to help them. A bald eagle was spotted in distress, stranded on a chunk of ice and calling for help while floating downriver. Officers from the NYPD harbor unit saw the injured bird and saved it. We now have another bald eagle that's been saved along with millions of others. But they are it's good we have their symbol and he's still alive.
Dana Perino
Thank you. The NYT America great again.
Kellyanne Conway
Kellyanne, a heartwarming ending to a terrible story. The dog was tied to a baggage Sizer outside of JetBlue terminal because the owner didn't have the proper paperwork. The pup, now nicknamed JetBlue, was taken in by rescue group and the same officer that rescued him adopted him.
Dana Perino
Can we get an interview with them?

This episode of The Five centers on the anticipation and analysis of President Trump's upcoming State of the Union address in his second term, falling during America's 250th year of independence. The hosts—Dana Perino, Kellyanne Conway, Harold Ford Jr., Jesse Watters, and Brian Kilmeade—discuss the President's achievements, policy priorities, the optics of inviting the U.S. gold-medal men's hockey team to the White House, and the divisive decision by many Democrats to boycott the speech. The panel also covers media reaction to Trump’s honoring of “angel families,” updates on a high-profile missing persons case, and the broader themes of patriotism, unity, and political spectacle.
