Hello everyone, and welcome to the focus group podcast. I'm Sarah Longwell, publisher of the Bulwark, and I apologize for my voice. I've been down with the flu and so I sound like this. But I'm still going to bring you a great podcast because I want to talk through a couple of things that I'm finding really interesting at the moment. And first, I want to talk about our political divisions because there's a lot of chatter about how to have better disagreements. I move in a nice world often of democracy, folks, and they really want us to learn how to disagree better. I want to get into how and whether and when we should be doing that anymore. Is that still a thing we need to do? Really talk to people we disagree with? Second, because I've been throwing a lot of Republican voters at you who are down on the Trump administration, and because his approval rating is down at 39% in Nate Silver's average, and it's as low as 32% in some polls that came out this week, which, as you know, I call the Bush line. That's where we're trying to go. When Bush left office, he was at 32%. And after that, the Republican Party was transformed. And so if we're going to transform the Republican Party again, Trump needs to leave office as unpopular as possible. People often Ask, Ask. Then who are these 32% of voters who think things are going well right now? Well, we're going to listen to some of those people who still approve of how Trump is handling things and talk maybe about how we get below that Bush line. My podcast partners cannot, will not let me say those things. Can I say them here?
