The Good Land Project talks with William Dunbar of United Nations University about "satoyama". Satoyama is a Japanese term for the place between arable lowlands and mountain forests, where people traditionally lived and drew resources from both environments. More recently, the definition of satoyama has been broadened to suggest people living in equilibrium with nature - communities that draw on natural resources, but take just enough for their needs.

Mark Schatzker, author of the newly released book The Dorito Effect, talks to The Good Land Project about how the lack of flavour in much of today's food points to a lack of nutrition. Bland food has supported the rise of the flavourings industry which, Schatzker argues, is confusing how our bodies interpret nutrient signals in food. He believes this confusion is a primary cause of the obesity crisis.
