Krista. Welcome to the show friend. We are so excited you're here today.
C
Thank you so much. I'm so thrilled to be here.
A
Oh my gosh. I feel like this is going to be one of those conversations that has me like walking around on like beboping tiptoes for us today. You know what I mean? Like the energy, the excitement, it's going.
B
To be the way you were like.
A
Beboping, wiggling in my chair. I love it. Krista, you are such a gift. We are so honored to chat with you today for maybe anyone in our audience who isn't already obsessed with you and know who you are and in your ecosystem and community. Can you kind of introduce yourself, share a Little bit about who you are, what you do, what lights you up, all of that.
C
Yeah. I am Christa and I live in Northern California, like on the coast. We are a coastal girly. I'm very, very obsessed with all things fashion, style, thrifting related. Thrifting is huge in my life. I. I have come to become, like, it's become my whole entire personality, pretty much. I love just like creating vibes. And if it's not a vibe, it doesn't belong in your life. It doesn't make you feel like a 10. It doesn't belong in your life. I have four boys, and so I'm like, just. I'm a mom and I've always been a mom, but about four years ago, I was consumed with TikTok and Instagram in the midst of, you know, the pandemic. And I'm just like, seeing all of these girls seemingly living their best lives, but none of them have children. And I was like, wait a minute, like, why can't the moms be doing this? So that was kind of where I first started, like, saying, hey, like, let me step into this little gap and show, like, just because you're a mom doesn't mean you lose yourself. Doesn't mean you aren't hot anymore. Does it mean, like, where'd that confidence go, girl? Like, where'd she go? So. So I'm just trying to bring it back. I'm trying to bring it back and just like, empower and share the joy in all the ways. But yeah, Thrifting is my gifting.
B
I love it.
A
We love a rhyme.
B
Thrifting is my gifting. That is the best thing I've ever heard. Well, your energy is well received. We are so excited for this conversation. I know every area said this, but like, our audience like that. Yeah. Every to your hands or no snaps all the things to everything that you just said. I. I guess I want to know, was it in that, like, post Covid season when you were looking, or have you always been interested in fashion or just like wardrobe thrifting? Like, when did that interest start?
C
I mean, it started back when I grew up garage selling with my mom and my grandma. When I was in the middle, I lived. I'm from Minnesota, so the Midwest. And so like, that was life giving. And it even started with, like, going and running to get beanie babies, you know? So like, and like, let me find the beanie babies. Let me find, like the vintage T shirts. Let me find the Levi's. But like, I was so, like, kind of what do they call that tunnel vision? And I wish I could tell you that, like, I was born with style, but when I say looking back, I mean, the early 2000s were not kind to anyone, I don't think. And so. So I just. Like, I was trying to be. But, no, it started when I Pinterest or when social media started. I think there's a beautiful, like, beauty to social media. And so Pinterest, Instagra. I'm seeing just, like, a variety. And then now that I'm an adult, going back and watching 90s movies with my children and being like, oh, my gosh, Like, I'm sorry, Elizabeth James. I'm sorry, Nick Parker. Like, I'm sorry. And so that's kind of where the passion is. Let me bring this back in. And then the discovery of also Mr. Ralph Lauren has absolutely changed my life. Like, I know he's been around longer than I have, but I have just fallen in love with everything that man does for the world.
A
So I love it.
B
I love this.
A
Yeah, you're an icon.
B
Absolute icon. Also, we were, before we hopped on this call, you mentioning characters from the Parent Trap. I told Evie. I was like, I showed up correct today for this conversation because I felt like I was giving some chessy vibes a little bit with this. With this gene. If you're not watching on YouTube, then it just sucks for you because you can't see my outfit, but it's fine. You said a couple things there in there, though, that, like, I'm getting, like, how. I guess, how would you personally describe your. Your style or your personal preference? Because it sounded like 90s, very classic inspired.
C
Is that how you would come that way? It's become that way. I kind of started off kind of being like, you know, my little tagline on Instagram was like, millennial mom with Gen Z style. And that was fun to be relatable to, like, the girlies, to be like, hey, girl, like, I got it too. Okay? Like, you know, it's that little thing like, am I, you know, am I bad? Am I doing better than these little. Like, I don't know, you know, like, and I am, but I don't have to. It's kind of like, realization hit where it's like, chrissy, you can do it. Like, you still got it, girl. But you don't have to. Like, that's kind of. And I just am drawn. Yes. I'm drawn to the classics. Nine times out of 10, you look back at, like, photos or things of yourself, and you're like, if it's like classic, everless, more timeless. You feel I look better or. I think, yeah, so. And then the 90s just did so much, right? They just did. And like, every time I put on an outfit that's 90s related, I'm like, yes. Like, nine times out of 10, I'm like, that's it. You know, I love it.
B
I'm also thinking of when you said. When you said the 2000s wasn't kind to everyone. I'm thinking of the classic, like, the. The frilly skirt over jeans. I'm like, who thought of that? And how did that ever happen?
A
Did they end up in jail as they deserve?
C
Seriously, you deserve something.
A
Yeah, I think they have our derision for. For life, so that's good. Yeah, they have something. Okay. Krista, you mentioned 10 energy. Can you kind of unpack that a little bit? Because I feel like that is. I don't know if I would say that's your tag. Maybe it is your tagline now.
C
Like, it is. It has become. Yeah, I've become very passionate about it. I have a lot of taglines. I think when I am in front of my phone, like, doing videos in my bedroom, I don't know what's going to come out of my mouth. And all of these little random, like, little, like, jingles and slogans and things to live by, but they stick. And I love it. And so, yeah, I started, like, creating the vibe and being the 10 you wish to see in the world is kind of where it started. That's what I want to, like, what do you want to do for the world? I want to help create the vibe and show you how to be the 10 that you wish to see. Like, kind of like be the change, you know, to be the 10. And I. I love clothes. They spark joy. I love adventures. I love traditions. I love nostalgia. And I just. Yeah, it's like 10 energy only, like, what, you know, you want to be the 10 or you see people that are just seeing so confident. For me, 10 energy is like, confident in all the ways. And you're just like, living your best life because life's too short, life's too beautiful. And you deserve to every day be the best and see the best in yourself.
A
Yeah.
C
So that's kind of like 10 energy. And it was one of my little slogans that I just, like, spoke on randomly off the cuff. And now I keep, like, I refer back to it, like, every day. But it's like, it's one of those, like, I'm preaching and teaching myself. I'M like, oh my gosh. Yeah, Krista. 10 energy. Yeah. Like, let's live in that.
A
So I love it. I feel like it's actually, it's. It's one of those things that has stuck with me too because I feel like it's so, like sticky and catchy and so there have been so many times where I'm, you know, purging my closet, you know, being like, I thrifted too much, I need to get rid of something. And I, I literally will sit there and be like, am I feeling like a 10? No. All right, bye. You know, and I literally. It's like it's life changing.
C
It is. It's like a. Yeah. It's like a simple. I mean, who am I? Like, I'm like, like the Mel Robbins and of the thrifting world. No, I'm not at all. But I'm just like, this is, that's my, that's my niche. Like, I, that's where I can. I'm very indecisive. I'm an enneagram7. Like, I don't care about a lot of things, but this, yes, I can help. I can be decisive and it's the best feeling.
A
I love it.
B
For anybody that's listening, that is maybe not where you're at in mindset when it comes to fashion. And they almost have always viewed it as function or they've never felt beautiful in their clothes or, you know, maybe they just haven't found their personal style. What would you say as advice for how to start slowly stepping into using clothing as self expression versus bump?
C
Yeah, I think, I mean, Pinterest is my favorite doom scroll. Let's like, absolutely, like, I will go there and just start kind of like seeing what speaks to you because you want, you wanna. And then just kind of like trying things out. I think that's also why I love thrifting so much, is because, okay, you see all these trends and things that are happening and you're like, okay, cool. Would that look good on me? I don't know. Well, it's like, well, if we try thrifting our trend, like it's like a fraction of the price, you know, and then you can try it if it doesn't work. Okay, well, the shirt was $6, so it's not like the end of the world. It's not like you paid a lot for it. I think though that the biggest thing is I just like Pinterest and seeing what, what calls to you, what are, what are you pinning, what are you looking for and what do you keep coming back to? What do you keep coming back to? And when you. And then again, end of the day, put it on. I mean, like a button down. Never in my life would I think that a men's but would make me feel hotter than like anything else in this world, you know. But here we are, so many of them, and I wear them all of the time and they make me feel so good. So I think that Pinterest is the first step, though. I think that having just like a vision beyond. Because sometimes people just live in different parts of the country too, where it's like, oh, you know, where they don't dress like that here. And it's like, well, that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what they dress like. They're like. Or, you know, I mean, the Midwest, the South, the east coast, the west coast, it doesn't matter as long as you feel confident in your style. And I find that Pinterest has helped me kind of like filter through and I find myself pinning a lot of the same things now where it's like, same, same, but different. I'm like, okay, yeah, this is what you like, this is what you like. So get on Pinterest. Get on Pinterest.
B
I almost have a follow up question. I'm almost envisioning. I'm not this way probably, and I don't think you are either because we're like extroverts and we almost like attention.
A
We're not afraid, right, to be the.
B
Center of attention in that way. But I know there is a lot of people out there that don't feel that way. And so I'm envisioning the person that's listening to this that doesn't necessarily like to stand out, per se. And I think I was actually thrifting with a friend probably like a long time ago, like five months ago or something. And I remember, I was like, oh my gosh, this is so cute. And she tried it on. She was like, I just don't think, I think it was a trench coat. And I just love a trench coat. But we live in Florida and we can never wear them because it's so hot here. But I just like, I love it. And she put it on. I was like, you should get that. And she's like, I can't envision a world in which I would put this on and step out of my house because I feel like you'd be the odd man out or just attracting attention because it's so stylish.
A
Yeah.
B
And I was like, yeah, but it's like, for the person that kind of has that. That thought of, like, oh, I would love the idea. Like, I like. I like that. I like it on my Pinterest board, but the idea of putting it on and having people look at me in a certain way makes me feel anxious. Like, what would you say to that person?
C
Gosh, like, that's so hard because I'm so much like you, Lindsay. Like, I'm like, hello. Like, look at me. Like, it's a vibe. But I think that, like, confidence from within is the most important thing. So, like, you have to love it. You have to look at yourself. I mean, we're packing for a trip right now, and I was helping my husband because these are. I'm not, like, he's good at 98% of things in our marriage, like, better than I am low key. But there's certain things that I just, like, bring to the table. And I'm so glad that he, like, is asking for my opinion, because otherwise he just doesn't need it. And so he was, like, trying on shorts. And we live on the coast. We don't wear shorts a lot. Because, honestly, I know you live in Florida, but no, it's not that warm here, like, most of the year. And he's trying these on. He's like, I don't know if these work anymore. I'm like, do you feel like I literally said, do you feel like a 10 look at yourself in the mirror? Like, what's it giving? And he's like, I said get rid of it. Like, don't even put it on your body. So trends be gone. Like, if you do not feel when you look at yourself, like, I can walk out. No matter how extroverted or introverted you are, just really lean into, like, okay, what is making you feel good? And stick with just, like, classic pieces. Like, that's where I think that finding yourself and your style starts with. I didn't realize how much I use my hands also, by the way, she's everywhere. But I feel like, really, if you're with a friend and it's really fun, thrifting is so fun with friends. But if at the end of the day you're like, no, it's not my vibe, like, just be confident in that. I think if you're confident in your decision, that's all that matters. And little by little, like, you don't have to do. It's not all at once. It's like baby steps, you know, one step forward. Try one thing That's a little out of your comfort zone. See what it feels like?
A
Yeah, 100%. Okay. Speaking of thrifting and the fun of it.
C
Ooh, are you going there?
A
You are a legend at thrifting. The. The piles of hauls that I have seen you accumulate over time that are score after score.
B
Can you.
A
Do you have any tips for the person who's listening to this, who's like, okay, start with a Pinterest board, then maybe start experimenting with some thrift.
B
I also think there's some people out there that. That are like, oh, well, she probably lives in, like, a rich area that, like, all the thrift stores have good options. And I live in a place that.
A
Oh, my gosh. The number of times I've heard in my life, I'm sure.
B
Krista YouTube, I feel like no one stylish is giving their clothes to Goodwill.
A
Or just people being like, my thrift stores suck. And I'm like, how. How often do you go? And they're like, like, once a year. I'm like, interesting, interesting. Anyways, Krista, your thrift unpack, thrift tips.
C
So here we go. Here we go. So the Pinterest board is the first thing, because you don't want to walk into a thrift. I mean, I love walking into a thrift store being like, what's gonna happen? But if it's overwhelming, the Pinterest board kind of, like, helps you be like, okay, these are the vibes I'm looking for. Like, I don't have any button downs. Like, I. I kind of want to try, like, finding some, like, flowy, wide, like, linen type pants or something like that. That first step when I go into the thrift store, every single time I head straight to that men's section, I head straight to that men's section because it's the smallest section. More or less like women's. There's a lot more usually. And I love, like, men's clothing because it's amazing and it's better quality half the time. Like, it's just so button downs or men's button downs are so versatile. The most versatile piece of clothing in your, like, in your wardrobe, in my opinion. I have quite a few of them, but that's where I go. And then also men's jeans. Oh, my gosh. Like, I can't even. So. And then men's, like, sweatshirts, like, in crew neck. Like, I just. So men's action. Okay. That's the first place you're gonna go. Then you just kind of, like, let the Flow. So if you want to keep going with denim, then you go women's. But I say focus on the smaller sections and focus on what you're actually there for. So if you want to kind of do dresses, like, then go to the dresses. I have the neck trick that I use all the time, which is another thing that I get on Instagram and TikTok, where it's like, it doesn't work for me. It only works for you because you're so skinny. And I'm like, well, that's not true. Like, sometimes, you know, it doesn't always work. And it depends on the fit of the jean. But it's just a helpful tip of, like, okay, you find a jean. There's no dressing rooms anywhere here in California, or at least where I live. And it's like. Then you do the neck trick. Okay? This says it's gonna fit. And the neck trick is where you put the waist of the jean around your neck, and if it touches, like, if it barely touches, that means it's gonna fit. If it overlaps, it's too big, and if it doesn't touch, it's not gonna fit. It's too tight. And I've learned that from my mother, who probably learned it from hers. And it's just like, it's something that's been so helpful for me, like, life hack when I'm shopping. Also the rich neighborhood of it all. Oh, when I tell you. I hate that comment because I have found the best stuff. I mean, I will say, okay, we live in. I live in the Bay Area. Okay, yes, there is, like, affluence here, but the one that I go to the most, the Salvation army, it is in a little bit of a sketchy part of South San Francisco, and it's not in the best neighborhood. I think the best ones have, like, are the ones that are like, what's going on? Where did this stuff come from? It's like, just magic. I think you have to know what you're looking for. Okay, We. We don't want. We don't want, like, cheap, like, and obviously thrift store. That doesn't make sense. But, like, kind of fast, fashiony brands. I refuse. I refuse to buy Shein. Like, I do. Like, I. I will. Forever 21 is low key giving vintage these days. So, like, I want, like, Forever 21 in H and M. I will like, if it's really good. And, like, the getting better at the fabrics. We're mindful of the fabrics these days. We don't do polyester. I don't know if you know, but we don't do polyester if we can help it. Like, 100 polyester. Go away. But I think that, like, fabrics. Thrifting boyfriends. Can I just, like, rant a little bit on my thrifting, Please Rant? Because I love talking about my thrifting boyfriends. Okay. When you go into a thrift store, there are brands that you look for that are not like, like, typical. But it's my thrifting boyfriend. So it's Levi, it's Ralph Lauren, it's Calvin Klein. I have my thrifting. I don't know if you're readers, but if you've ever read, like, acotar, you have the. The. The bat boys. Well, the bat boys of the thrifting world are Mr. Lands End. That's what this one is. Land's End. L.L. bean, which is Mr. Bean of the L.L. variety. And then Eddie. Eddie Bella. Like, so those are the guys. I'm telling you, the quality and the fit and the style is fantastic. Who else is on that list? Russ Boy. Russell. Russell Wilson. I almost said Russell Athletics. Best vintage crewneck sweatshirts. Like, incredible quality. So just, like, be mindful of if the tag is a man that you heard, maybe, like, lean into that, you know, So I love it. And they've never left. I always say, like, they've never let me down. Just like my thrifting. Or just like my book boyfriends. Like, thrifting boyfriends. They never let you down.
B
You know, I. I wasn't sure where you were going with the thrifting boyfriends. I was like, oh, is that. Wait, a boyfriend? And then when you went off on the. On the male tags, I. That was the best, most iconic thing I've ever heard in my life. Well, because before you even said that, I was like, oh, what. What brands do you look for or what brands do you avoid? Which I feel. I feel like you answered. Are there any others that you avoid other than Sheen?
C
I mean, like, it depends. Is like, no, I don't fully. Not that I'm like, where I'll turn away if the vibes there. The vibes there. Even, like, I was gonna say, like, Old Navy sort of. But no, like, Old Navy is low key. Amazing. I'd have to, like, physically, I'm trying to, like, picture myself in the physical store, trying to go through. But no, pretty much just like Sheena's the one that stands out the most.
A
Yeah.
C
I feel everything. I'm such a feeler. And so I will try and just feel it and you can kind of just tell, okay, how does this feel?
A
Yeah.
C
Because I don't again.
A
You always know, you know when you grab a sheen thing though.
B
Yeah. Like so I get so upset though when it looks good and then I like flip it over and then you see it sheen and I'm like, worse.
C
I find that with like the denim because the shape of denim is like really, you know, there's a bunch of skinny jeans in thrift stores these days. But then when I see like a silhouette that's like, oh yeah, it's giving like wide leg, you know, high waisted. And then I see that dagum tag and I'm like, yeah you, you sneaky, sneaky, sneaky.

I've shared with a lot of people who have asked about, like, how do you. How do you thrift? I'm so overwhelmed. I'm like, first of all, go consistently. Like, that's a big thing. If you're. If you're really wanting to find certain items. It's not like a standard store where you just walk in. You're like, okay, I'm gonna, like, find. You know, I feel like I have.
B
To commit to actually, like, digging versus just like, yeah, just like browsing quickly. I find, like, I never find it.
A
Unless you're looking like I. There are like, okay, let's say you're looking for a white button down. Yeah, you. Yes, you can go straight in. Straight to the men's section. Dig through. Be like, there's not a single white button down in here. Awesome. Great. I'm gonna, you know, go to my appointment. That was all I needed for today. Like, there are times and exceptions for that. But, like, if you're starting and you're like, I have a list of 10 things, it's like, budget, two hours in the upper store, minimum, grab a coffee.
C
I love a two hour minimum thrifting day. I mean, I was just thrifting a couple of days ago because I have thrift bundles that I do now, which is so fun. And so I was like, I think I just need to go in summertime. I'm with my kids all the time, so I don't have that. Like, I don't have that window of when they're in school to go, go. And so I told my husband, I'm like, I think I'm just gonna go like on a Sunday. I don't do that anymore. When I tell you, like, unintentional, like, oh, my gosh, just the high. I didn't even put an airpod in. I was like the, like the squeaking of the hangers just giving me life. I love it so much. And like the random songs that come on the radio.
A
Yeah, I'm thrifting. If you. If you fall in love with it, it truly is so addictive.
B
It's therapeutic.
C
Yeah, it is. All the above. Do you.
B
When you mention you make Pinterest boards, do you. Because I think style and like, brands, fabric is one element of it. But I feel like color could be also another part of the conversation. Are there certain colors that you look for either seasonally or just like always? This almost maybe butts up against kind of like the color, like your season conversation almost of just like how somebody know what colors they look best in or that they are attracted to. Is it like, what, What. Do you have any tips on that?
C
Gosh, I don't because like a million and 1,000 people have asked me, like, do you know your color season? Do you know? And I haven't gotten it done. I haven't gotten it done for me. I just run so much off vibes. So I. I just lean into, obviously, like, in the fall, we love. I mean, we love red all year round. I love red. Oh, my gosh. But I love browns. Like, and so in fall, I will lean more into. Into like, browns and like. But I just love. I love neutrals. So browns, beige, white, black, black. Not as much like brown is the new black for me. Low key, which I absolutely love. But, yeah, blues. I kind of just like, put it against myself and look in the mirror and say, you know, and then I think, again with thrifting. It's just so fun because it's like, you can take a chance. Chance. Just take a chance. Like, what if you just, you know, what's it. Oh, why not take a crazy. I was like, there's a song. There's a song in my head.
B
Did you just quote Hillary Duff? You are my soul sister. I love it.
A
I think that's so good too, because it's. It's like, hey, experiment and. And hold it up. That's a, you know, a huge thing. I. Beginning of my thrifting career. No thrifting journey. I definitely. There were multiple times where I had seen, like, I Had friends who wore, like, specific, specific shades of, like, beiges or, you know, neutrals that I loved. And I was so drawn to them on other people. I was obsessed with them. And so I thrifted multiple of those pieces. And then I began to realize every time I would put those pieces on, it washed me out. And I can still do neutrals, but it was like, something with, like, the undertones of certain neutrals or whatever just, like, did not go well. And so now I figured out, like, hey, if it's a neutral, I'm immediately holding it up to my face, holding it up to my, like, my arm. And obviously, you can do it with any color, but kind of identifying. Does this wash me out? Does this, you know, is this wearing me? Am I wearing it, like, you know, kind of, like, assessing, but it's thrifting, so take a risk. Like, maybe. Maybe you'll grab something and then you don't ever actually end up wearing it out of the house and you gift it off to a friend, donate it back, whatever. So there's so much flexibility.
C
There totally is. And, Lindsay, you said this before, like, with people who, like, function, I think, like, knowing your color season, if. If you are more of a functional person, functional type A, like, you need this to work and not think about it. Like, I think that having your colors done so you don't have to think about it. I'm just so on the other side of that, like, in all the ways. But I. I do. Like, I have friends who know their colors, and. And I love that they lean into it. Because, again, it's like, at the end of the day, it's whatever like, pushes you to have that confidence. Confidence.
B
Yeah.
C
And, like, what, you know, what is giving you 10 energy? Like, what is making you feel like a 10 so. And your closet should be full of that. There shouldn't be anything in your closet that you're like, like, why is it there? Yeah, go.
B
This is inspiring me to go purge my clock. Because there's so many things that I, like, haven't worn in, like, a year plus. And I just keep thinking, oh, maybe. But no, it's like, if it's not giving you life, get it out of there.
C
Get it out.
A
Because it's causing more stress too. Like, I. I've been purging my closet the last few months. I don't know if it's pregnancy or what, but I'm at the point where I'm, like, gone, gone, gone, gone. And I literally have been like, this is causing me more stress. Because I feel like I have way too many options, and I'm not obsessed with, like 60% of them. That's so unnecessary. I would so much rather trim my closet down by 60% and have, you know, this options that everything pairs with each other or like, I just, just everything I'm going to pull from gives a 10 energy. So it's like you don't even have.
C
To think about it. Yeah, you don't have to think about. I mean, even me who, like, I, I. There's not a piece of clothing, like, I, I kind of want to do this challenge. There's not a piece of clothing that I put would put on that I could not make a vibe I really like. It is a funny, like, thing. People do say that. And I'm like, no, I think I should try, like, you should wear a potato sack. No, I think I should style a potato sack.
A
Please do.
C
But I think even my, even my closet, I mean, I just went through and tried on every single thing in my closet, which was beyond time consuming. But when I like. And I just got rid of so much that was like, either so similar to something else or where it's like, okay, I don't, I don't reach for that. I really don't. I love it. And every time I, like, do the closet purge, I'm like, yeah, I love that. And then I put it back in. But, like, you don't wear her. And so I think that is so, like, it's just so important. The less it's like, the less is more. Like, the less that you have, the, the more creative that you get to be with it, which is great.
B
I love that as an exercise of.
A
Like, try on everything.
B
Take a Saturday try on everything.
A
Yeah, yeah. Or spread it out. I know, Krista, like, you did it. You created content around it and you started with, like, categories. So you did.
C
Yes.
A
Like, your buttons down, button downs and then your shorts or something. So even.
C
Right.
A
Doing something like that, I would assume is. Probably makes it a little bit more attainable.
C
Oh, like bite size for me, I need accountability. Honestly, that's why I created the content was because it's like, I'll say I'm gonna do it and then I don't do it. Sure, I'll do that tomorrow.
A
I love it.
B
Okay, well, I feel like we've you talked, obviously you're a mom and you mentioned at the beginning of this conversation of just like, the concept of like, all of these, like, hot 20 somethings that were, like, didn't have kids. And they looked so fashionable and fun. And you were like, why is there not, like, why don't I see of moms also, like, feeling like a 10. And all the things for the person that's listening to this that is either maybe pregnant and struggling with their own, like, just like the transition of their body in. Because obviously it changes and you kind of have to maybe. I'm speaking for personal experience. I love a high waist and I just simmer with rage when I can no longer wear them. Or they're either in a postpartum season where it's just like their body's going through so many changes and they almost feel lost. Lost in their style.
A
Yeah.
B
Do you have any advice for the mamas out there or the pregnant postpartum season mamas and ladies that don't, like, almost feel like they had style or they, they had, like, they just don't know how to navigate it while their body is changing?
C
Well, first of all, you have to give yourself grace because you are freaking rock star that you are giving life and providing life. So you have to give yourself grace because, oh, my gosh, like, I could go on a Tinder. I don't realize how passionate I am about this until, like, I realized that I went through that four times. And like, oh, my gosh, like, women are freaking incredible. So grace is important. Button downs are also second important. Okay. Like, you need you. They are so forgiving. They are. So I always say that the decollete is the sexiest part of a woman. This doesn't change if you are with child largely postpartum. This is still she's hottie. Okay, Wait, can you.
B
If you're not watching YouTube, decollete is like your chest, but like, but like the, like, not, like, collarbone and like.
C
Like, like the call. Yeah, the collarbone kind of like this up, which. That's like a 10 point word. It just gives a little bit of sass. It gives a little bit, you know, iconic princess of Genovan times. I think I refer to it as a lot of times, but like Lena. And then also, I mean, I'm currently wearing, you can't see, but linen pants, like flexible waistband, drawstring. I'm not even pregnant or postpartum and I live in this. But I think leaning. Yeah, A wide leg, flowy bottom. Like, just things that are more forgiving and gracious and just knowing that this is a season and this is a beautiful season that you will get past. I mean, I didn't have style at all until I had three children. Like, I was, she was, she was lost and confused. Like days beyond had no clue. And so I think that if you had it before, like, you are 10 steps ahead of where I was. So, yeah, go to the men's section of a thrift store and grab you a handful of men's button down. Like, just trust me. That's what I would say.
B
Amazing.
A
I'm like sitting here like, okay, I think I have like six or seven button downs. I'm just going to start rotating this through the last few weeks of the cuff.
C
Yeah, the cuff and the like just, you know, make it style. Otherwise you will drown in it and you will be like, wait, am I wearing my husband's, you know, like, shirt out of his closet? No, no, you can make it your own. Yeah, don't worry about that. You can.
A
I love it. You, I mean, you are the prime example if anyone's sitting here, like men's button downs.
C
Really?
A
I'm sorry. Just look at Krista's stuff because iconic. It's gorgeous. It's so sexy. It's so chic. It's so like timeless. It's beautiful. You pull it off so well.
C
And then I mean even like the chessy moment of it all, the button downs and even like Elizabeth James in them. I mean like every single, not every single, but so many like of those old movies. I am so just like, like mouth open, like jaw on the floor with how attractive these people are. Men, women, all shapes and size sizes in the freaking button down. So anyway, do you button down or 10?
A
Or 10?
B
Do you. How? Because we're talking about button down so much. Do you like, how would you recommend styling it? Like when I think of a button down, I think of, I think of tucking it into like a high waisted pant with a belt situation. Obviously that's one way to do it. So then my pregnant pessimistic self currently is like, what? Can't do that. Obviously. Like, I guess I'm, I'm styling a button down in a, in a way with a dress. But like how would you personally, for anybody listening, how would you. What are the ways that you can style a button down?
C
Oh my gosh. Like I feel like I want to like, like stand up. Like I'm literally. Okay, I'm just gonna do this right now. Okay.
B
Okay.
C
We love two button situation. Okay, Two buttons, button. Then just like let the flaps fly. Okay.
A
I love it.
B
That's amazing.
C
Gonna fold it over because I know that some people say they look like a waiter over. They're like, it just doesn't work for me. And I'm like, okay, we'll just fold the flaps over and then we cuff. It's cuffing season and so it just like gives like shape and dimension and you look, you look like you're effortless, like an effortless queen. So that is, that's one of the ways that I would style it just like kind of casually, the tuck in belt. I love it. Men's button downs are sometimes harder because they're, they're bigger and like a little bit of fabric. But when you. Oh my gosh, I'm literally bringing up all of my jingles. But when you tuck it in, you're going to tuck it all the way down your leg and then you button and you out. So it always comes back to a song.
A
Always.
B
I love it. This is iconic. If nobody, if you're not watching YouTube, first of all, you should. But just to give a verbal visual to what she just modeled for us, she has like a, like an oversized button down and you had it like two buttons in the middle. In the middle and then open over like linen white pants. So she didn't have it tucked in. It was very much like oversized, loose.
A
And flowy, but still gave that like it.
B
She shape.
A
It still has shape.
B
It has like the center buttons and then the decollete. I'm getting so inspired.
A
Chris, I have a very, very, very specific question for you on the, the collar and neck because I have personally also experienced this and I'm curious on what you've done. There are some shirts button downs that I will thrift and I don't know if it's because they have always stayed like there's. They're the ones with like the button by the collar that like they have starchy, like buttoned and straight up and down.
B
Yeah.
A
What do you do in the. Do you iron them like I have done like iron them.
C
I know I don't own an iron. I'm sure that's probably not surprising. But what I do is I kind of. So I look for with the button downs, just a really quick like tips on when you're thrifting button downs. I look for non iron. I look for non iron. It says it in the tag like wrinkle free non iron. Also with the whole feeling of all of them, you can kind of feel ones that are a bit like just like stiffer, just naturally. And so I tend to leave those like just because knowing the way that I want to style a button down, it's like that's that's a bit too much. That's giving like businessman special. And I'm a business woman, so we're not. I'm not gonna like. I know sometimes men's clothing are really just meant for them. 90% of the time that's not the case. But. But I will say so, like, yeah, if it's a really. Because I know exactly what you're talking about. And I've tried to thrift some of those sometimes and then just sit in my closet because I'm like, you' versatile. You're not giving me anything. You're being a bit of like, particular. I don't like you.
A
You're being particular. I love it. Okay, that's good because you're like, just flatten the collar. And I'm like, I have definitely had some shirts.
C
Yeah. So you need, you need it to be like wrinkle free iron. Like I non iron. Those are really helpful. And then again, it's just like the touch. I just. And again, Mr. Lance, this is Lance. So like, go with your boyfriends. Okay. I love it.
A
Amazing. Okay, Krista, I have a question for you on the person who I almost circling back to, like, hey, create a Pinterest board. You know, hone in on your style. For the person who has ever felt that they waffle between multiple styles and they feel like they cannot nail it down. And so they're like, I've tried the Pinterest thing and I end up with like six different styles. I have the really baggy Gen Z. I have the really like, you know, classic 90s. I have something really bohemian on there. Like the people who are just feeling like this whole conversation, they're like, I'm inspired. But I keep coming back to that. I do it every time. I have six different, like, fashion senses that I am drawn to. Is there anything that you would almost say or encourage or recommend to the person who's like, I've tried the Pinterest board and it just didn't give me clarity. It made it more confusing.
C
Yeah, I would say, like, you do you bro. Like, if you, if you actually wear all of these different styles on a different day, just depending. Because some people are like, I just feel like this person, like, I feel like this person today. Go for it. But I, I mean, I feel like more often than not it will be harder because you'll have much more to like, figure out. I don't know, like, make less decisions, like, for yourself. You know, I think that honing it down, down, if everything makes you Feel so good when you're wearing it. Okay, like, great. I always. I too, really like to do seasons. A little bit of boards where I lean into a different style because I'm kind of the same way. I mean, I. I love a baggy jean moment with like a tighter top. I love Ralph Lauren. I love Nancy Meyers. They kind of overlap. But I also am very obsessed with Parisian, like, vibes like Cezanne Beyond. And so I, um. For me, I'm like, okay. That's why I kind of. I have like a, you know, I do a Ralph Lauren fall. I did a Nancy Meyer spring. Like, I kind of am like, okay, I'm gonna lean into this. If you wanted to lean into something for the season, that kind of was like, well, I'll get to. I'll get to kind of like express what I love in this way for fall or whatever. That kind of has helped me because, yeah, I'm. I'm a girl just like that in a way where it's like, well, I like. But then it's like, what do you reach for? What do I also find myself reaching? A lot more of the same things that I realized, like, in the moment when you're thrifting or shopping and you're like, oh, yeah, let's try this, let's try this. But at the end of the day, what are you reaching for on the daily. And I find that that is where I've fallen into. Oh. I do kind of lean more this way. So I think just being mindful of what you do reach for, if you reach for it all, great confidence and 10 energy is the goal at the end of the day for yourself and for life. So if it's. If it's like you multiple personality clothing, like, that's a little bit exhausting, but, like, it works for you. Like, go do it. I love it.
B
That's amazing. Krista, is there a quick mindset or styling shift that someone can make to instantly elevate, like, a simple outfit?
C
Yeah, like, get a belt, tuck, belt, sandal, boom. I just like, like, I have, like, tucked in my shirts belted. If you're pregnant or postpartum, ignore that. Okay. You don't need a belt right now. No, you don't. It's not going to work for you. But I really, really love, like, instant elevation station is a belt. Like, it really just like, adds a pop. And I love a cuffing of the pant moment, if allowed. I hate an ankle pant, but if it's cuffed, it's better make it make sense. I don't know. But very much like instant elevation to me. Also, like, maybe add some jewelry also show off that dec. There's just like, there's my kind of like my go tos where it's like, okay, I really want to spice this up. What can I do? But, yeah, belt is my favorite way to, like, elevate like a moment where it's like, oh, yeah, that really makes the look feel more polished. Yeah, I love it.
B
That's amazing.
C
Yeah.
A
Okay, final, like, tip for the woman listening who's like, I'm so inspired. Krista is. Is my. My muse in fashion at this moment. I'm. I'm ready. What is like, I guess one small thing that a woman listening to this could do this week to make herself feel more like a 10. Is it. Is it to go thrift a button down? Is it to put on a belt? Like, is it to start the Pinterest board? Like, what would you recommend?
C
I would. This isn't like an easy. I would recommend purging your closet. No, because I think, like, before you go out, you need to go. And I think that 9 times out of 10, 10 times out of 10, women have plethora of things in their closet that it's just like, before you bring stuff in, you gotta get stuff out. Get that ish out. You know what I mean? So. But if that seems overwhelming, yeah, you need to go get a men's button down. That will absolutely bring you joy. But I think just taking the time, putting on a playlist, listening to a great audiobook or a podcast, I think is very much kind of getting yourself. I don't know, I love to have that kind of, like, me time where it's like, you, you're just, you know, that you're taking care of yourself and this is going to benefit you so much. So, yes, I would say absolutely. Purge your closet or get a men's button down. So it's whatever your preference is for sure. Yes, those are the. But it's so. It's so much easier than just take care of yourself. Put yourself first for a day. You know, get up, move your body, drink that water. Oh, my gosh, I'm so inspired. When I see, like, videos on Instagram and TikTok, mainly of older women in their 70s and 80s who are living their best lives, they still look gorgeous. You can tell they're so confident and they're telling you what to do. Like, yes, please. Like, I am sat. Tell me what, like, you have done. That is still bringing you this energy and this confidence. So. Because every day, every day, like we deserve. I'm encouraging myself. I'm like, okay, what are we doing? I'm taking my kids to an amusement park today. But like, okay, how can I feel like a 10 while I'm doing it? I think it's just like, take a time for yourself because you can't. You can't give before you give to yourself. Like, you are the most important thing. Give to give. You got to give to yourself. Yeah, it's just really important. And I think I feel like as, like, as a mom, you don't put yourself first. I mean, and when you're in that thick of a season, when you're pregnant or postpartum and you got littles running around, like, that's definitely something that I did put to the wayside. And if I can like, go back and tell my old. My like younger self, not old self, because old self knows what she's doing right now. But younger self, it would just be like, take. Just take a day. Take a day, a week. Take a couple of hours. You know, you do have a partner nine times out of 10. And if you don't, you do have someone who can just help you step in and be like, get. Do it for yourself. Because you will in the long run be so thankful that you. You did. Because it's so easy to lose yourself in just like life and like the race of what's going on. And it's like, you just gotta come back and be like, no, like, this is important. And I will feel like a 10 when I do.
A
I love it.
B
Wow. Mic drop moments all around. Krista, Krista.
A
Delivering.
B
Oh my goodness. I am selfishly going to ask this question purely because you mentioned ACOTAR earlier. Do you have a book recommendation for the ladies that are listening? I just, I get this sensory.
C
Can we go there? I'm obsessed. What genre do you want? I just read three books this month that are all five stars.
B
Oh, wait, we want all of them.
A
Give all three. Yes.
C
So Carly Fortune, is it One golden summer every summer. And the first one was every summer after which was Slay. Slay obsessed. This one that she just wrote this summer is called One Golden Summer and it actually has characters from that book. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Like, I was envisioning my. Myself at the. Like the entire. I'm like obsessed.
B
That's on my TBR bucket list.
C
There's nostalgia. Like, you won't he's like a tall bronze God of the Thor variety. Love to see it. You know what I'm saying? Yes, please. Yeah. Second one that I read. Oh, was. I don't know if you guys know who Jessa Hastings is. Jessa Hastings wrote Magnolia Parks, which is a series that is, like, beyond. I'm obsessed. It's like toxic Gossip Girl of the British variety. And, like, you hate it until you love it, and then you can't get enough of it. She wrote a book called Conditions of Will, and it is.
B
She's.
C
Her writing is so fantastic. The way that she just, like, like, punches it, like humanity. I. I love her so much. Like, I will not now not read a book that she has. Not, like, anything she writes. I will read. She's one of those authors for me.
A
Wow.
B
Amazing.
C
Second or the third one is rewind it back, which is, like, low key, sweaty a little bit, but it's like a sports romance. And it is the fifth of five books. Liz Tomford.
B
Is that the Windy City series?
C
Oh, yes.
B
I haven't read them. I just. I've heard of them.
C
No, I'm telling you, I'm telling you. I'm telling you. I'm telling you. It is incredible. Like, the friendship. It's in Chicago. I want to live in Chicago now. Okay. I want to live in Chicago. Her next series that she's writing is in Northern California. Hey, O.
B
Like, I can't freaking wait.
C
Let's go. So, yes. And then, I mean, fan. And then fantasy romance. I mean, like, I love me a fae man. I love me a vampire, and, like, and I love a witch hunter. I think those are three favorite men of the fantasy variety. So I mean, how much, like, I could do a whole podcast.
B
I'm like, she just keep going. This is iconic. This is just story hour with Kristen after fashion hour.
A
Fashion hour shifted into story hour.
C
So, yeah, I'm very. I love an audiobook. It's. I have one airpod in my ear. I mean, this is like my little life hack to being a mom. You just put one earpod in your ear the whole time to drown out the sound of your children. So you're, like, half paying attention. You understand what's going on, but then also, like, you have a moment for yourself to, like, fully be like, yes, okay. Okay.
A
Back to your fantasy world.
B
I like that better. I just wear, like, literally these, and then I'll just, like, pop the. The headphone. But that's a little bit more obvious that you're not listening.
C
I know. And I want Headphones like that, like, you see them. It's a vibe when you're like, you know, walking down the street and like, you know, just like strutting and everything like that. But I just, I haven't, like, taken the plunge because I kind of like being under the radar with the one and then my hair covers it. So it's like you don't know.
A
You're like, yes, yes, my dear, absolutely, 100%. And then you just go back to your world.
B
Exact.
C
Hold on, hold on. Rhysand, he's talking.
A
Oh, my gosh, Krista, you are such a delight. And I know you just inspired so many women listening to this and encouraged just finding your own sense of style and what makes you feel good and feels like A10 and practical tips in there and also like permission to go purge half your closet. Whatever's not serving you, like, get it out. Oh, I love it. Chrissy, you are such a joy for everyone who is obsessed, obsessed with you now who maybe wasn't before, didn't know you, didn't follow along. Where can everyone find you? Learn from you, purchase a thrift bundle from you, like all of the things.
C
Oh, my goodness. Well, I'm, I'm Crystal of Rusick everywhere. I think there's a dot in there on it on TikTok, but whatever. It's so fun to have my Instagram. I didn't get TikTok until like two years ago and I don't know why, but the girlies on TikTok just make me feel. They make me feel so old and so young at the same time because they're, they're over here like, oh, my gosh, I want to be you in 20 years. And I'm like, what?
B
Say that again. You're like, I heard that incorrectly.
C
Time out, time out, time out. Are you a child? They are, but yeah. Krista La Russick. And I'm, I'm on YouTube as well. YouTube shorts. My husband works for YouTube and I'm over here like, oh, yeah, that's like my least favorite. I love YouTube. I love YouTube, but it's just like, it's different. It's different, it's different. So I'm, I'm on YouTube shorts as well. I'm trying to make, you know, make more content there, but it's just not as fun for me as Instagram and tick tock. But yeah. Krista Laversik. Kristalavusik.com is where you can buy my thrift bundles. They're super fun. They're personalized. You Make a Pinterest board for me. You share your sizes and your vibes and I create like a little, you know, five piece board of your dreams of items that will make you feel like a 10 and bring you so much joy. So that's it. I just, I can't believe that, like, I have this platform now. It's kind of wild. I like, I share things on my Instagram stories where my husband is like, krista, why are you sharing? And I like where it's something random and it's something I would share FaceTime with a best friend. I'm like, what? He's like, you don't realize how many people see these. I'm like, no, I don't think about that. No, it's like my best friends. Yeah, these are my best friends. I love my DMs. We sure they see me like, be unhinged with thrift hauls. Like, what are you talking about?
A
I love it.
C
So I think it's a beauty of how unhinged and wild I am. I've leaned into that a lot more and I'm so thankful that I have because at the end of the day, if you bring yourself to the table, your authentic self, that's what's gonna shine. I don't know why I'm deciding that I'm going to like, have this little like mini TED Talk, you know?
A
So good.
C
That's where like, yeah, it's just like the joy that comes from within. Just like, let it out, girl. Just let it out.
B
Well, your joy is infectious. Like, I know every single person listening, listening to this wants to now be your best friend. So we will include your links in the show notes so everyone can go stalk you, follow you, get your thrift boxes, whatever. How did you phrase a bundle? There we go. I thank you so much for coming on the show, giving us your time and your wisdom and your spark and your energy and all your fashion and even book advice. We love it all. We're here for it. Thank you so much for being here today, Krista.
C
Thank you so much for having me. I had the best time. The best time.
A
I love it.
