This is a fantastic conversation and an incredible example of unpreparedness. As we mention in the episode, I met Apolonia a few years back with some work I did with SDPB regarding the Wild West Singer Songwriters Festival. They wanted to make a documentary regarding it and as part of promoting that film, as well as the festival, so I did a writers round with Lacy Nelson and Chris Huisenga on air. Apolonia was the host of the show.

I fell in love with her spirit and vibrance instantaneously. If you ever get the chance to meet her you’ll realize that it won’t be difficult for you to do the same.

We stayed in touch sporadically through social media and not that long ago I got a message from her asking for a video to promote Harmony South Dakota (more on that here). It came at a perfect time as I was also in the beginning stages of re-launching the podcast. I asked her if we could do an episode and she graciously agreed.

So, here I am, preparing to talk about a South Dakota organization with an SDPB employee. I did my research solely on Harmony South Dakota and was taken quite off guard to learn, in the middle of the episode, that Apolonia herself had a depth to her that I was unaware of. This lady has, it would seem, done it all and is going ‘round again for seconds!

It’s ok though. I like being surprised. Just wish I could have a do-over to do her justice. I guess that means I’ll just have to have her back on the show!
