Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy not quite on Humor Me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier this week. My guests, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an acapella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. We listen to Humor Me with Robert Smigel and friends on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The volume. What is going on Everybody, John Middelkopf, that'd be me. Three and out podcast. That'd be what you're listening to. Hopefully everyone is doing well out there in the real world, enjoying some sun, enjoying some warm. This is a hot one today in Arizona. And I said, you know what, let's do a big mailbag. I was looking at my Instagram DMs and I had a million. I was like, you know, let's empty the clip a little bit here. I couldn't empty it completely, but I tried to bang out an hour's worth of questions. So you guys know the drill. Easiest way to get ahold of me. Sometimes you guys send emails. That's not, it's not typically going to get read on the show just because of the way this is set up. If you ever, some of you guys go through your wives social channels, you don't have social media, which I'm somewhat envious of that ability in life. I'm actually kind of jealous. But if you guys want to get on the show, just hit me up. Obviously it's going to be a huge point emphasis over the next couple months as we, I don't want to say come to a screeching halt, but just less happens, especially after the NFL goes on summer break. But, but anytime you guys want to get ahold of me, any type question, obviously football related, but it could be life. We got a couple life questions today and just hit me up. But you guys know the drill. If you listen on Collins feed, make sure you subscribe to the three now feed. We have a separate feed and if you want to watch the show, it's on Netflix, so just type in my name. If you hit the alert button, you'll never miss a show. It'll pop up on your, on your watch list and you will be able to keep tabs from, from a video standpoint. See this beautiful mug every day in your television or on your computer or on your phone. Because all these apps, you can watch them wherever the hell you want. Or your iPad. Let's just dive into the show. We'll start with Ethan. After the release of the international slate, I think it's a historic nine games like Paris, Munich, Mexico, Australia. It's crazy. I was surprised to see the 49ers on there twice. Especially with how Kyle reacted to the Australia game. Got me thinking, does the quote home team for the international games still get eight games at their home stadium? Hypothetically, if you're the 49ers and you travel twice and are in a year where you only have eight home games, there's only going to be seven opportunities to play in the home stadium. Do owners not care about the revenue generated from having these home games taken away? It also gives fans less chances to watch their games. Well, I think I will see on the schedule Tomorrow with the 49ers, I don't know off the top of my head, is it the, is the AFC or the NFC hosting that 17th game? Obviously if you only have eight home games, you give up one. But I think the 49ers have a huge Mexican fan base and their belief is going to Mexico City is a good business move. So it screws the season ticket holders. Unless you want to fly to Mexico City, which I would imagine a dude in Sacramento is probably not doing right. Or a dude in Fresno. It's just watch that game on television. But it is a big picture business move for the 49ers that one of the biggest cities in the world might be the biggest city in the world. Not up to my, my, my population geos with the major cities in America, but it's, it's clearly massive and they view that as their market and they want to take a stranglehold of their competition which would be like the Cowboys and who, whoever else falls under that umbrella that has a big, big Mexican fan base. So I think with that move specifically they knew part of the reason Kyle was pissed off about the. The Australia game is because the 49ers look at their home slate as the Levi games right in Santa Clara. And then when they go to Los Angeles and then when they go to Glendale and play the Cardinals, they get two extra home games. So when the Rams who got, you know, I don't exactly know how it works, whether they raised their hand or they were told you're going to be the team losing a home game to Australia. Because I don't think anyone would choose that. Right. You wouldn't actively be like, we'll give up a home game and we'll go to Australia. The Jags, they like going to the uk. They want to build a fan base there. It's why they do that. Back to back home games, which is happening again this year, they stay, which they are clearly comfortable doing. And I think one's a home game, one's an away game, but still like they enjoy doing that. The 49ers viewed the Rams actively choosing them because they know that when the 49ers play them, they have to go on silent count that it becomes. I went to a Week 18 game might have been Week 17 at the time back in January of 2022, the Niners had to win to get into the playoffs and if the Rams won they would because the Cardinals lost that week. It was the good year with Cliff. They would have officially won the division. They ended up winning the division I think anyway because the Cardinals lost to Seattle that that week who I don't think Seattle might have been the last Russell Wilson game. I memories a little off, but I think it has more to do with they thought the Rams actively demanded they play the 49ers in Australia and that's why Lafleur was bringing it up when he was on the on the show with with Kyle and Florio and Chris Sims. But I think the Niners want to go to Mexico City. They view that as a market for them, right? It's like Jerry likes going to Oxnard. He views Los Angeles as a big market for the Dallas Cowboys. So I think they're no different than Shot and the Jags being active in across the pond. They view that as a market they can take advantage of. So I don't have an issue with the Mexico City game. Now granted I'm not a season ticket holder, but I understand him being up in arms about the Australia game because we could have an other argument of like should that should the it's one thing going to France or the UK or Germany going to Australia. Like are we really going to make teams fly 16, 17 hours to play on a different day? Seems a little crazy and really the only week you'd ever be able to do it would be week one, but my guess is they go to Australia again next year. Curious where you stand now that offensive schemes of the older head coaches Andy Reed and Sean Payton still get the quote genius wizard treatment, but their offenses have looked pretty middle of the pack for a few years. I'm not seeing the run game creativity from Ben Johnson or Mike McDaniel or the passing game precision of Kevin O' Connell when he has a real quarterback. Have their schemes aged a bit? Denver is a strong O line, Kansas City has the best quarterback on earth, so why aren't we seeing top tier results? And to be clear, I think both guys are elite head coaches, but I'm starting to question whether the scheme edge is still there. I think let's start with the Chiefs. Obviously their wide receiver position has been in flux from injuries, from just not being as deep, from not being as talented of a unit. Once they lost Tyree Kill so they shifted to defense like they allocated resources Defensively, Right. So their defense, last year they were a disaster, going 6 and 11. But the previous two years they won a Super bowl and were in a Super Bowl. So that's. We can nitpick the team with, with Denver. If Bo Nix doesn't get injured, they're going to the Super Bowl. So Kevin o' Connell's had some great offensive results. He's lost both times. He's played in the first round of the playoffs. So quote, unquote, wizards. I think that goes back to in their heyday when they had the best personnel. But they're a head coach, so the goal of a head coach is to win. Are they currently the most dynamic scheme guy in the NFL? I think it's fair to say, not based on last year. Right. But the Denver Broncos hosted the AFC Championship Game and if they didn't have to roll out a backup quarterback, they win that game. And the Chiefs had been to five Super Bowls in six years. So I always support anybody, even if it's ugly, if you win. That's the end goal of any head coach in any organization. But I also think Andy Reid's going to try to pivot this year. I think they're going to try to attempt to be much more run centric. They bring back the enemy. They sign Walker. Their offensive line should be pretty good. They're going to ease Mahomes back in. I bet they have running packages for Justin Fields. So I would expect the Chiefs to look a little differently on offense than just rely on Mahomes coming off the ACL to throw 50 times, you know, a week. Now, Denver, like Bo Nix, can be hit or miss. Like, I don't necessarily put that on Sean Payton when Bo Nix is missing. Wide open. Guys, he was clutch. He came through in some big moments, but last year he was underwhelming in a lot of games. For the majority of them that they still pulled out because their team's really good. So. I hear you. I think it's a fair question to have listening to your draft lottery podcast. I think it's a good idea. Just needs a few little tweaks. I think There should be two lottery drafts, one for picks 1 through 5 and 16 through 10. That way the really bad teams can still be picking in the top five and a team like the Chiefs can't get pick one. I think it will create interesting parody and not encourage tanking until the final week or two. I do not hate your idea at all because, you know, if the Bengals or Chiefs got the number one Overall pick in my scenario where if you missed it, I said, what if we did a draft lottery with the teams drafting in the top 10? That that would be must see TV. I don't hate 1 through 5 and 6 through 10. Some people have DM me thinking it's a crazy idea. No one tanks in the NFL. The Raiders literally tried to win right up until like two weeks in the season when they realized Pete Carroll was going to get fired. The Arizona Cardinals and Jets desperately tried to win every single week. So these teams, it's impossible to tank because you can't just mail in a game like you can in the NBA. You can't mail in a game. You know, in baseball you can mail. No one's mailing it in in the NFL like the jets right now. They want a quarterback next year in the draft. They're trying to win. They're trying desperately to win. The Browns are going to try to win week one, week 10, week eight, week 14, maybe if you have two or three wins. Who gives a shit about the last couple weeks. Season's over. But everyone tries. So I. Tanking is not an issue in football. It doesn't exist. But this would definitely make it not exist. I like your tweak. I'd be cool with. Hell, we could have one night Tuesday, Tuesday six through 10 and Wednesday night at the combine is one through five. Would have sucked if you were the Raiders for good things about Mendoza, even though he's been in the Raiders building for like 10 days. But I think they're excited, as they should be. But good, good, good idea. We're always, we're always open to ideas. Here. This is for the mailbag. Please don't use my name on the pod. I won't. I got my undergrad degree at Auburn, but just graduated from uga. Do you have any background knowledge of Alex Goelish, head coach of Auburn? Auburn is the only team year to year to have a returning quarterback and coaching duo to have more than 15 starts together in college football. Also, I'm hopeful but nervous about Auburn in the nil world. The CEO of Yellawood is the richest person in the state of Alabama, so we have deep pockets. But it seems there's been times our administration and boosters have gotten in the way of the elite coaches like John Summerall and Lane Kiffin. I'm an Auburn fan, but for uga. Do you think Kirby will ever go to the NFL? I don't know that much about Alex Golish. You know, it's not like I've watched much when he was coaching in south Florida. I have ran into on the Internet some interviews of him and he does look very very impressive. I think most people in the SEC say if Auburn gets the right head coach they have the backing, they have the support and they have the atmosphere and give a shit factor. They can be really good really fast. You know you could make the argument it's easier to get Auburn good than Florida good. If you just look at the last the Internet era or post urban myriad Florida Auburn's won a national championship. They've been to another. They've had. They play Alabama well. They had some night games this year and a disastrous season that went the. The atmosphere at Auburn is pretty special. They care about football a lot. Now you're always going to play second fiddle in your own state because you're never going to be as big as Alabama unless you go on to win seven titles in 15 years which is probably not going to happen in the nil era. But the clips I've seen of Golish in the interviews seems like a very very impressive guy. I've seen some walk arounds their facility. They got a lot of positive momentum it feels like in the program it's just hard and I think this is an SEC problem in general. Are they going to be able to pay the money? Some of the northern teams with bigger pockets can pay. Time will tell. But I, I think one advantage South Florida. I I don't know if like they had some revenue sharing advantage or an nil booster but like they had really talented players. From a financial standpoint they weren't your typical kind of smaller. I know they're not like you know UC Davis but they're. I wouldn't compare them to like Clemson or Florida State and they, they've been very very successful. I, I like I, I kind of bought in what he's selling. I believe in him seeing a lot of stuff with John Sumrall. Very very impressive. The Bob Chesney at ucla. I actually think this crop of coaches obviously Lane pretty polarizing individual but his results speak for themselves. I you never know. Maybe we'll look back in two or three years but sometimes like the Hugh freezes like you just go back to the. Well I like this crop of coaches a lot. I would buy stock in all these guys. And the other advantage Bama had over Auburn for a long was they had Nick right. Well now Nick's gone. I like deboer. I think it's a weird fit. They just gave him a huge extension. Their nil budget isn't massive. He's you know, at Bama they like being a physical run team. Look at DeBoer's history. He's much more of like spread it out, pass the ball around. It's like Bama is the worst rushing offense they've ever had. That's not really Kaylin's thing for for former offensive lineman. He's more of a pass guy. So I I'm buying it. Three weeks later and I'm still apoplectic over the Niners draft. Try to explain me the logic. 1. No sane person after watching Seattle dominate the 49ers offensive backfield would think the Niners needed a wide receiver and a running back with two of their first three picks. 2. After drafting Stribling and Black, Shanahan praises both their ability to pass block. 3. Niners have probably drafted more defensive linemen the first three rounds than any team over the last 10 years. They clearly understand the value of defensive pressure with them needing so Much O line help after both Seattle games expressing that value of pass blocking, running back and wide receiver and knowing the value of a dominant D line. How and why do Shanahan and Lynch completely ignore the offensive trenches? They've told you this before. I disagree with it. I think most people in football would disagree with it. They believe playmakers over offensive linemen. I would have got aggressive for the offensive lineman that the Patriots traded above the 49ers for low to the the Utah offensive lineman who I knew a lot of people in the NFL that liked a lot. The 49ers don't believe in that. Like they go, oh, this guy could be our next Juan Jennings. But he's faster and much more explosive down the field. It's like, oh, he's this is, this is what happens when a coach gets heavily, heavily involved with the draft. I like scribbling a lot, but I'm with you. Would you rather have a tackle, right or a wide receiver? It's a no brainer to me. But when it comes to Kyle Shanahan, he's the offensive line coach. Chris Forester a couple of years ago said this. He is on board with it and maybe it's his arrogance thinking that he can coach these guys up, but like Trent Williams aren't growing on trees. In what world? How are you going to replace this guy? What if he goes down? I, I disagree so philosophically. I can't get on board with it. As long as they win though, it's like we could nitpick their guard centers. They did draft Aaron Banks from Notre Dame years ago in the second round who was a weird scheme fit to me, he's a little bit more of a power guy. Obviously the packers signed him to a pretty big contract. I think they regret that one and it clearly was a little underwhelming and they just haven't gone back to the well. So yeah, I don't know what to tell you. It's not going to change though. And if, if, unless they have disastrous seasons, they're not just going to start drafting offensive linemen in the first and second round. This is not what they've done. It's not what I was accustomed to. You know, I was around Pat Hill, who was an offensive line coach by trade. I was around Andy Reid, who was an offensive lineman when he was young. And when I was there, we drafted, I think linemen every year. Fletcher Cox, Danny Watkins was a bus, but he was an offensive guard tackle. And my first year, Brandon Graham, I make the trenches, but they'll draft. They draft wide receivers a lot. Okay, question for the pod. Thoughts on the doj investigating the NFL and streaming services that people may not have access to football. I saw, I read an article that I don't know if it was Rupert Murdoch. I think it was Rupert Murdoch, who is the patriarch of the Fox empire, I think had said something to Donald about the streaming services in relation to the NFL. And I've been saying this for a while and we're in business here with Netflix and Netflix just said the other day we don't want a full package. Now that could be posturing a little bit. You know, Amazon currently has a full package. If Apple tv, if those companies wanted to dwarf the numbers of Fox, CBS and NBC, they would put them out of business. Think about that. If Fox or CBS were to lose the National Football League, it would be a major, major problem. And a lot of people think that it would put those, it would put those traditional networks out of business. So there is pressure from the powers that be at the traditional networks to use their political influence for their survival. And I was thinking about this today. When it comes, it's like middle cough. What are you politically? It's like, if you with my business or you with my family, you're an enemy. So who's got my back when it comes to my business and my family? If I ran a business, I would do whatever it took the CEO of these businesses to be in with whoever is running the administration because that's all I care about. That's my prerogative, people. That's not right. What about that's. This is the private sector and survival, especially when you're talking about numbers that are this big, are the end all, be all. So if Fox were to lose the NFL, it would be night night. If CBS were to lose the NFL, it would be night night NBC. Peacock like they need Peacock to survive. But the only way for its survival is if NFL games are on Peacock. Like they ain't gonna survive with the NBA. So it's all about these traditional networks, you know, going to battle with these streaming services that have more resources. You can fight them off for so long. But it's. If you just look big picture, 10, 20 years, it does feel somewhat inevitable. And listen, I've been, I've benefited from inevitable change. Like I'm currently on Netflix. Our podcast audio numbers are big. Why? Because of the phone. I. My career started in radio and it was clear early on you're like, this medium's fucked up. So I got lucky. It was kind of forced into it, but pivoted into something that was trending the right way. And if what I do now ever started trending the other way, I better look for a life raft and go, well, what's going to work? That's the way business is, especially if you are tied to technology. And that's. I got two TVs in my office that are hardwired. We don't have a cable box in here. I have Internet wires running from my house. The fiber optic cables, it's all just hardwired. There's. I press a button, boom. Pull anything on from my phone. That wouldn't even have been possible probably 10 years ago. It wouldn't have been. Not to do what I needed to do, watch all the games, but I also have all the apps on the tv. Like all you do, but I don't have a box. It's all based on the Internet. So I think that's really, really changed the game. And I think it's just survival. And I never blame anyone in business trying to survive. It's the fucking name of the game. Question for the mailbag. Is Netflix ever gonna allow you to go live after the games like you did on YouTube? Love the content. We. We actually had a meeting would be strong, but I was on a text thread with the powers that be on my side. And we are. We have been discussing that for months now. When we. When we started the deal, it was. When was it? Middle of January. Wasn't as important. Not that it wasn't important, but it was, you know, a lot happened fast. I didn't know all the details. Not that would have changed anything in terms of being able to go live, how it was going to work. But that is a point of emphasis. Let me just put it that way. I will. If I ever have news, which I hope to have, we will report back. But we got a little. We got a little Runway May 13th. So we got several months to figure this out. But that is. That is a prominent talking point here in, in my office. You know, something we are very, very passionate about doing. And clearly they have the capability because other people do it. So, yeah, that is. That is something we are currently working on in discussions. Hear me out on this one. Guys like Andy, who are dynamic play callers and quarterback whisperers or Ben Johnson, dynamic play caller with an almost scientific run scheme, but no one really talks about them as offensive line gurus. My question is this. Is there something these kind of guys understand about blocking an O line that make them special or is it a scheme thing or a coaching style? Sorry for rambling. Big fan. We'll start with Andy. Andy's an offensive lineman. He played offensive lineman or he played o line at BYU. His teammate was Kyle Whittingham in the early 80s and then as his career took off, he coached that position. It is something, if you've ever met Andy, or obviously all you guys have seen him on tv, he, that that's who he is at his core. He just kind of wishes he was also a quarterback and could throw deep, but the trenches mean a lot to him. So most offensive linemen, like there's a big gap between a high end starter and just an average guy, right? So when you get Jason Peters, Joe Tooney, Creed Humphrey, a Trey Smith, whoever the talent Josh, Josh Simmons possesses, the advantage you have when you got elite talents on the front make your coaching look a lot better. I think all these guys would be the first to tell you. They also emphasize, you know, when I was with in Philly, Juan Castile was the offensive line coach for a decade and at the time he was viewed as one of the best online coaches in the league. And he's had Andy Heck, I think his entire time since he's been in Kansas City. I'm pretty sure Andy Heck came with him in 2013. So you, you emphasize that position in the draft, free agency, whatever, and you have a, an offensive line coach, you're paying a lot of money. Jeff Stouton was the highest paid offensive line coach in the league for a long time. So they drafted players in Philly, they signed players in Philly and they paid a premium to their own line coach. So it's emphasized with Ben, I would love to talk to him about this one day. I think in your core, like you kind of are a run game guy or you're a pass game guy as a, as a play caller. And I think Ben is probably why him and Dan Campbell hit it off like they fucking love shoving it down your throat, handing the ball off and obviously schemes a huge part of that, the zone running scheme, the, the timing of play calls. But like they've had some pretty good backs over the last. Obviously the Bears this year with, you know, Swift looked fantastic. Manon Jai by the end of the year was one of the best seventh rounders in the league previously with Gibbs and Montgomery. So it's like you need a good offensive lineman and you need good backs. You need to consistently call the run like part of being a good run game. Play caller George Kittle has talked about this Kyle will call plays when they're humming and he wants to call run plays that he knows will not work or eventually will be like jabs and kind of wear you down. So he will take a couple 2 yard gain, 2 yard gain, 3 yard gain to get that 15 yard gain to get that back. Breaking play. And a lot of play callers I think will pivot away from the run because I's not working a run game. I don't even want to say coordinator, but a guy that emphasizes that that area in his offense is just willing to play the long game. And I think that's what any good run game coach does. And obviously Ben, I think him and Kyle are the two best offensive coordinators who love to run the ball and will just stick with it. And then I think it just your offensive linemen love it and your, your running back stay dialed into the game and then it opens up play action. And you know, if you have good offensive personnel, you can just and you have a good play caller, it's fucking on like Donkey Kong. Is it better for a player to be the last pick in the first round or the first pick in the second round? The fifth year option seems more team friendly, but I'm not sure. Seems like players that have success like Devin H. And get to hit free agency earlier. I've made comments on Twitter before and have agents come at me because I went, God, that contract feels low. The one thing they've always said when I'm getting yelled at and I'm like, yeah, I disagree, but I'll take it, is that when you have the fifth year option and you're a good player like Hn, right? He would have been a guy that had his fifth year option picked up. That is guaranteed money. So when you're going to give me a contract extension, my number is typically higher. The amount of guaranteed dollars I get. And if I'm going to sign an extension with you, you got to make it worth my while. So it's why you usually see first rounders that get extensions are usually massive. And sometimes the middle round guys that get a contract, sometimes they can be kind of hit or miss. And I don't mean like miss, like they don't get any money. But relative to JSN's a first rounder. So when he gets a big extension and the guarantee is huge, part of that is that fifth year option is built into that guarantee. So people go, he's got $110 million guaranteed. Well, whatever his fifth year option number would have been, that's part of that total number where when you're Devon Hn, it's not really because you're like, well, the franchise tag. Well, JSN would say, well I have two franchise tags on top of the guaranteed number. So you would rather, if you're going to be a good player and get a contract extension, you would rather be a first round pick because you have a fifth year option which is fully guaranteed at a high number and then a franchise tag and then a second franchise tag. So you have a lot if you're an elite player that like hey, you can year by year, but these are the numbers. So if we're going to do a long term contract, it kind of starts with that where if you're a Chan, you only have the two franchise tags to go off of. So again we're nitpicking millions of dollars but you would rather be the last pick in the first round than the first pick in the second round. Plus if it doesn't go well, you know, we're talking best case scenario. If it doesn't go well, you sign a four year fully guaranteed contract. Who are the Niners targeting this summer with $67 million in cap space? I was watching. Who was I watching? Wasn't the Colts. I was watching some press conference and he mentioned that his salary cap guy keeps a fund that they call the August fund. So they keep some extra cap space. Just because you never know who's going to become available. You want to have flexibility, hey, we could trade for this veteran, but his cap number is going to be X and if you don't have it, it can be complicated. So I think part of it is optionality. It gives you options. It also allows you to roll over money so you can roll it over into the next year. Maybe the free agent class is better. It doesn't guarantee that they're going to sign some guy this summer, but if a deal comes available that they view worthy, maybe they could sign a second round pick and land. They're not going to do this, but like AJ Brown. But that guy ideally would be like a guard, you know, or center. But those guys are never available. I think it's just teams like to be flexible. They didn't see, just because you have money doesn't mean you need to spend it. But you always want to have in your back pocket, hey, Micah Parsons available. Max Crosby's available. You know, you pick. It's just a cycle. There's going to be a new group of players available and the more flexibility you have to pull the trigger on stuff like that, the easier it is to make a move. But I don't think nothing's guaranteed. I know this happened a month ago and was withdrawn, but why do you think the Browns made the proposal to trade picks five years in the future? Do you think they had a specific trade in mind? My understanding was they're an analytically driven organization. They probably study basketball, I'm sure, and go that they have the ability to trade future years, years into the future. Right. You see, right now in the NBA, a team owns my 2031 or 2032 pick. And in the NFL, you can only go out three years. So again, back to the Niners cap space. I think they were just looking. It gives you more optionality. And who knows, maybe someone's willing to trade them picks in the future. So it's not even just a trade they're willing to make. What if someone offered you this? We will give you a second next year, a first the following year and a first in five years from Miles Garrett. Stuff like that. That's not even available, which I think would happen a lot. It's why I think the owners voted it down. Because, hey, you can give two ones and a two for Miles Garrett, but your two ones are in four and five years. You'd be like, yeah, it. Let's do it. I. I wouldn't blame anybody. Problem is, in four years, what if you're a disaster? And that's the number two overall pick. A bit of a life question. Good question, though. I'm 25. Want to ask this girl out, but we work in the same place and have some of the same friends. I don't want to crash and burn and then make life weird at work and socially. I don't a don't shit where you eat kind of situation. What do you think I should do? Ask her out, since I really love hanging out with her. Or pass. PS As a Pats fan, I wish Vrabel thought about the consequences of his romantic actions like this before making his moves. Yeah, ideally, if your situation goes well, you're in a different situation than Brable, but I hear you. Full disclosure, I've never dated anybody where I've worked. I, you know, for a couple years worked, you know, at Fresno State and then the Eagles. They were Fresno State. There actually were a lot of girls around. They were like either coaches or the student athletes, which I just wasn't willing to up the opportunity that I had. So I was not even saying that it would happen, but I was pretty Focused that way. And then with the Eagles, there just weren't women around ever. So anyone I was going to date was going to be outside the office. And then when I worked in radio, same thing. There were no women around really. They were definitely worth dating. So I have no experience being in a situation where you've dated someone at work. Now I've known a lot of people that have done that. And clearly there are HR rules that can be a little risky. And even before you get there that that's assuming things go well. Right. It's part of asking anyone out is it's like a beat. A salesperson, you might hear some no's, but you're never going to get a yes if you don't try. So I'm always pro, like, what do you have to lose? Your situation could be a little more complicated. I don't know the company rules. I think most people have a pretty good feel. Like your gut reaction of like she's feeling this or not. Now listen, sometimes people can be overly friendly and it's not as flirtatious as you think. But I think most of us have some like animal instincts to know. Like, yes, she's kind of, we're kind of vibing here. Again, it can be complicated with hr. I don't know the rules for your individual company. I think most of them. I do feel like growing up, a lot of people I knew even, you know, 15 years ago when I got out of college, a lot of people met their significant others in some work related thing. I guess meeting someone at a conference is different. Meeting someone in your office. But historically a lot of people have met in the office. I guess my advice would be this. You never know when love's gonna strike. So what if this is your future wife? If you would. I, I didn't know who Maria was 10 years ago. Five years ago, because maybe five years. Yeah, I didn't know her five years ago. Now I live with her. We have a child. So things change really, really fast. You never want to look back. God, I wish I would have done that. Who knows? I mean your generation changes jobs like every five months. I would just try to be pretty confident that you're going to get a yes. And you could even do like a sly. You don't even need a full on date. Like, let me take you to dinner. You guys are 25. Like you want to get some cocktails. But then if she goes, well, can some of our friends come along? Then you, you just got to feel it out. You just got to Feel it out. I would trust your gut. I wouldn't be overly aggressive though. I would ease into this one. It's easier to be more aggressive with a girl you meet at a bar with, you know, mutual friends that have nothing to do with work related. I think you got to tread lightly here. But if you're confident, I mean, this could be the future mother of your children or it could be someone that says no and turns you in and gets you fired. So it's a pretty big risk. But that's, that's life. Life's one big coin flip. And if you're not willing to try, you never know. But again, I've never dated anyone at work. Obviously it can be complicated. Known a lot of people that have a lot of great relationships actually. 19 year old debating going to become a college football coach or going into construction management. I've had a deep love for football, but value family and friends as well. Just curious on your advice, I would guess that you're, if you're 19, are you in college trying to get a construction management degree? I actually knew a bunch of guys at Cal Poly that I went to school with that did that and started making big cash right out of high school or college. So that's, it's a, it's a lucrative profession, that's for sure. One way to kind of just wet your beak a little bit and dip your toes in the water. Coach high school. Like get on with the high school where you live and you can go to college or work towards your degree or work and still coach high school. And if it's one of those things like I love doing this, that's what Mike McDonald did when he went to UGA. He was a finance major and coach high school on the side. Kenny Dillingham did the same thing at asu, so. And who knows, maybe you're the next Kenny Dillingham. Or maybe a couple years in you're like, I don't like it as much as I thought. I, I love watching football. I don't like coaching it. I think high school is a pretty easy route just to, just to dip your toe in. One of your takes from yesterday's episode was about Bill always coaching Tom, like everybody else screaming at him. And it made me think, I think the Chiefs bringing back the enemy is exactly what the offense needs. Andy isn't the loudest, over the top coach anymore, from what I can tell. I think Maggie was also a little easy on Mahomes in the offense. Even K9 came out and said EB is already on his case. Could this OC change be exactly what they need? I think one big point of emphasis for the Chiefs moving forward is like everyone's going to be held accountable. Patrick was not. I know he tore his ACL at the end of the year. He had a bad season relative to his standards. Like it just he didn't play well. And at this point in time, you know, Andy's not wired like Belichick. He's not going to rip his ass every single day. It's not his style. But you can bring in some reinforcements to kind of play the bad cop. And E.B. that's just his natural. There's a viral clip that always goes with him on Adrian Peterson after his, you know, his rookie year. He ap was one of the great running back prospects of all time. He was on his ass and I think he's going to be like that with everyone on the offense, including Patrick. So yeah, I mean I think it was very, very strategic. You get a guy that's unafraid to piss people off but also love him up too and I think they're comfortable with them because they know him, the players know him. I think there's also players don't mind getting yelled at if it's valid. You know, it's like the new generation. I actually was texting with an assistant coaching buddy the other day and he was like the day and age of the dictator. Like the true Belichick type dictator are done in this modern day age of the type players and the type people that the new generation. It's not really possible, especially with the money but there is still a place to get on guys in college, in the pros and I think it's probably more likely with assistant coaches and head coaches. Kind of be not the easy one in the NFL, but they kind of play the father figure role of this whole operation and clearly that's always the role Andy played. And I, I think EB is going to light guys up on offense. Maybe not Kelsey as much even though I don't think Kelsey would mind it. Like the Kelsey's been getting yelled at their whole career. I always get fired up in the group chat when a new episode drops. Fellow AZ golfer as well. Catch you at tpc. This is Jake. It looks like he's in a San Francisco Giants uniform. I could play a little as a Vikings fan. Why shouldn't I be optimistic about the improved quarterback situation? KOC and B Flow are one of the top coaching duos in the league and somehow managed nine wins with the corpse of Wentz, JJ and Max Brosmer. Forgot about him. Let me know your thoughts I got to miss in the playoffs. I think the Vikings take a major step back next year. Could be wrong, but I'm definitely not picking them to make the playoffs. You went nine and eight but you were also four and eight and I think won your last five against the bad teams. So I don't see it. I I don't see it at all. I just don't think Kyler's good. I don't think Kyler's good. I think Carson Wentz falls apart and obviously JJ is a disaster so that your quarterback position isn't improved that much. Like are we sure Kyler's any good? Because clearly Arizona thought Jacoby was way better by the end. Your comments on Green Bay. Look at who you lost. Who we lost aside from Dobbs. It's addition by subtraction. Rasheed Walker especially. They're making way for the first round of Jordan Morgan to start at left tackle Arizona Zone. I don't know if he grew up in Arizona, but he went to U of A. As long as Jordan Love and LaFleur exists, they're going to be a playoff team. I would agree. I picked the packers to make the playoffs every year. Probably will do it again. Shit, I had them in the super bowl last year and then Micah's ACL tour and Tucker Kraft's ACL tour and my ticket went to shit. Even though they actually still play the Bears. The Bears games. Those of my if I had to rank my top five games of 2025, all three Packer Bears games would be in the top five. They were riveting television. I wonder if LaFleur still lost sleep over that playoff loss. That hurts. Congrats on Jack. New dad. Myself son is 10 months old. Definitely a grind. Grind would be an understatement. If you had to rank four major professional leagues in order regarding which is best run league, where would you rank them? Trying to keep bias for your favorite sports out of it. NFL is for sure 1. I feel like the NBA used to be the clear 2 with their growing popularity worldwide, but not so sure now. Baseball has done a great job with the pitch clock. NHL isn't for everybody but hockey is growing and the Olympics were a huge deal. I'm not talking TV ratings and viewership, but more what leagues are more highly regarded just seem to matter more in today's sports world. I think the NBA could be in big trouble once LeBron Curry and Durant are done Star driven league. I think the NBA was a clear number two because they had David Stern and David Stern is wired like he was running the NFL. He was a fucking killer. Adam Silver, he got a great television deal, but his leadership during the NBA has not been great. The viewership loss, and it's not just viewership loss. The league does not culturally feel as power, as popular as it once was. And they haven't created new stars after LeBron, Steph and to me, LeBron and Steph are in a different planet than Kevin Durant. I mean they are two of the most profitable stars in the history of the league. I mean they're on the list with like the Magic's, the Birds and the Michaels and the Kobe's and the Shaqs. They are cash cows. You couldn't pay me to watch okc. I guess you could, but the number would have to be high if I'm going to give you a Tuesday night. Like, I just don't find them very interesting. And I think I heard Nick Wright say this, like, obviously Shay's resume speaks for itself, but like, do I feel like I'm watching one of the greatest players of all time? I don't. He's an awesome player. Their team's incredible. They do nothing. For me, I think basketball and bay, I think it's this. The NFL is so head and shoulders above everyone else. It's not even comparable hockey because it's still, you know, more niche in this country. I'd have to put forth. Even though the NHL playoffs are incredible. I, my, my wife loves hockey. She grew up going to Sharks games. I turn on an NHL hockey game, I don't even know the guys playing. It's the Minnesota playing Colorado. I'm glued. It's fantastic action. I would put that fourth and then I would just say, depending on what's going on, if you told me LeBron and Steph were in the Western Conference finals playing each other, basketball would be number two. If you tell me it spurs, okc, like, like you said, don't factor in ratings, but it's just not going to be that culturally important. The NBA media is going to try to make it. The Webby is next. I just don't believe you. I don't think he's going to matter the way that those guys internationally, you know, that could factor in. These guys aren't from America. But as long as if the Dodgers and Yankees play in the World Series, it'll just be dramatically more important than the fucking Thunder playing the Pistons. So now if you tell me. It's, you know, the Knicks are in the, in the NBA Finals. We can have a different discussion. But they're very, very dependent on the markets. So is baseball. So I would put them similar buckets. Both make a lot of money. Both have really rich owners, both have really rich players. I enjoy big games in both. But I don't think in terms of cutting through the noise, the casual sports fan either is remotely as popular as it once was. I mean, basketball 10 years ago, in the peak of LeBron versus Steph. I mean, just look at the ratings. You just, it just felt more important. I remember being at events where people turn, you know, turn on Steph Curry against okc, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. I don't, I just don't think if I went to the same thing now, I would get that turn on spurs versus the Thunder. Like, it's just not happening. But I don't think you'd get that. If you're saying the Twins are playing the Rangers now, if it's the Dodgers, Padres in the first round, like, a lot of people are watching. If it's the Cubs. Verse, I almost said the Mets, they're terrible. So I think both leagues are in a similar world. They're kind of fighting for number two is honestly college football. College football is bigger than either one of those sports right now by a wide margin. In terms of interest, especially when you factor in his connection to the NFL with the draft. I'm just a great example. I grew up watching everything. I watched every Giants game. I loved the NBA. I never missed the TNT Tuesday and Thursday night games inside the NBA. I remember staying up late constantly in my 20s and 30s watching Chuck. I just don't do it anymore. Now I'm unique. I mean, this is, you know, my business now is so heavily football and passion projects. Doing golf stuff and watching golf. Get it, Family, your life changes. But it's like, I, I don't feel like I have to watch those anymore. I, I, I've used this example all the time. Like, I'm not into Dungeons and Dragons. If you have dragons in your television show, it's probably not going to be for me. But, you know, what was the, what the hell's the show almost? Game of Thrones. That's what I was. Game of Thrones felt so culturally important. I felt I had to watch. Now it had enough killing and sex and nudity. I was fine. But you're never gonna hear me say at a dinner party or, you know, BSing with some friends. On the golf course. Game of Thrones, my favorite show of all time, but I watched every episode because I felt like I had to. And that's how it used to feel like with the NBA, Kobe and Shaq. Kobe's latter years with Phil LeBron, Kevin Durant, Steph. These guys don't. I don't feel like I have to watch Victor Women Yama. Just like there aren't that many guys in, in Major League Baseball that I feel are that important that I have to watch. And that's what I think. When I was a kid, Barry Bonds, like everyone watched, you can say it was steroids and, you know, cream in the clear, but I think that's plays a huge, huge impact on the way I look at it. Hey, John. My bald boyfriend named Luke doesn't have any socials and he wanted me to reach out to you. I'm going to glaze you for a bit real quick. Then he says, some compliments. I appreciate you, Luke. Question for the pod. Do you think the NFL would ever consider a Super bowl series? I know the NFL's whole thing is scarcity and the super bowl is the biggest TV event on the planet, so maybe they risk diluting the product like that, but could you ever see them expanding to something like a short two or three series? No, because that's not football. Football's a one game scenario. It's like March Madness. If, if college basketball ever went best of seven, we no longer have March Madness. Just like the NFL playoffs. Like it's the wild card round. You lose, you're gone. Jags lost, The Bills, they go home, The Bills move on. You know, I mean, that's Eagles. Like if it's A best of three, the Eagles probably beat the 49ers because the 49ers were dramatically underman and needed a double pass to Christian McCaffrey to win the game. But it was a one game scenario. Niners one. And that's what makes football so powerful, right? I mean, you saw it in the college football playoffs. It's, it's really football. It's football's secret sauce right now. One game a week. Every game matters. The bigger the games get, the more's on the line because there's no tomorrow. Like in baseball. It's like, oh, I lose Friday night. Well, I play the team Saturday and Sunday. What's your take on Russell Wilson? Some chatter, him retiring, going to a broadcast role. I'm a lifetime Bronco fan and Russell trade was one of the worst times of being a Bronco fan. Of my life. He was getting made fun of constantly with Denver and Sean Payton got sick of his shit and everyone felt bad for us. I can't feel sorry for the guy. Paid around $140 million to suck. I'm a little biased because I went to his games against the Niners in the. In his heyday and he was one of the more electric players I've ever seen. He was incredible and he owned them. So he. I was at these games. It's like he's having the best games of a season against them. It's like this is one of the best players I've ever seen. And then he just falls off a cliff. Always a little weird that, like Sherman and that crew never really liked him. I think I had a take the other day. Like I don't really understand television execs. Like I get Russell on television. He's a good looking guy and part of TV is looks. You notice there aren't a lot unlimited ugly people on television. Like looking good on TV matters. It's not radio, it's not podcasting. Most movie stars aren't fat and ugly. Not saying there, there can't be. James Gandolfini was a star at Tony Brighton. He. As the season went on, I actually was watching season three the other night. Kind of bored, didn't have anything to watch. He gets bigger as the, as the. As the kind of Sopranos goes. He actually isn't that fat. He looks pretty good. Like season one and season two and Tony or Gandolfini wasn't a bad looking guy. But I understand just Russell Wilson. He's famous. He looks the part. He's never said a word. So he's going to go on TV and say what? Like he was a cliche machine. And players have said that's kind of how he talks when he's in the building. He's not a bad guy by any means. And I think people give him a lot of hate just because, I don't know, it's easy to hate on people. Which, listen, you're a little bit more of a. Some people are square, some people aren't. I think people would call me probably a nerd. Some of you guys listening are nerds about certain things. I just always really appreciate people that are authentic. We all can be different. But I hate people that I think are being fake. But then more and more people said that's not. He's not fake. That's how he is. Thank God. This is a little weird, which is bad television. So my guess he probably goes into television. I do not think it's going to go well, though. Let's end on that one. We'll send on that one. We'll do a couple mailbag questions tomorrow after the schedule release and yeah, good questions today. Still battling these allergies. I've never gotten allergies in my life in this year. It's been brutal. I had it so bad the other day. We didn't have any Kleenex. I was like wiping my nose with paper towels, like ripping my nose skin off. That's not a good idea to tell you that much. But it's just brutal. Now my son has a little runny nose. So we're just, we're just in shambles here. We'll just keep swinging our pick and we'll try to keep our head above water and keep moving forward. Audios Talk to you tomorrow. The volume this is an iHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human.
