The volume. Okay, we just had a little playoff football. One Harbaugh brother is going home. The other is headed to the second round where he's getting used to playing a lot and his team looks really, really good. The Houston Texans take, destroy, work the Chargers, as Justin Herbert just throws interception after interception. And a game that I think we all saw coming. The Baltimore Ravens beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 28 to 14. But I promise you, it feels much worse than that. So we'll dive into that game off the top. We will discuss a little bit because everyone's like, middle cough. What are you going to do defend Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert? So we'll talk about it, guys. I bet on the Houston Texans, but also reports that all signs lead to Mike Vrabel being the next head coach of the New England Patriots. Something that I think we all saw coming the moment Robert Kraft told Gerard Mayo to clean out his shit. So we'll talk about that as well. But yeah, I think we need to start with, with the loser in the night game. And you hear this saying a lot because a lot of people use it to make a point. And I think, listen, it's usually used pretty well. And the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Like we have seen now going on almost a decade. Mike Tomlin, even if his quarterback situation is not great, is never going to bottom out. They're never going to have a season where they win two, three, four games. They're not going to look like the Titans. They're not going to look like the Jacks. This is also a historic American sports franchise that hung their hat for a long time on not only winning championships, but, but like legitimately competing for them. And early on in Mike Tomlin's career, he did that. He no longer does. Last year, he has played the second tier. The first tier of the AFC is one team by themselves. The Chiefs. They're clearly in a different universe than the Pittsburgh Steelers. Then there's a second tier, and it includes two teams who are, you know, I expect the Bills to win tomorrow, and you're going to see a great playoff game between the Bills and the Ravens. Two teams that are pretty damn good, that have hall of Fame quarterbacks that are just trying to beat the Chiefs. They lost last year by 14 points to the Buffalo Bills, and they just lost tonight by 14 points. Both games. They never had a chance to win tonight they definitely did not. And I've been saying over and over, like saying Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers should break up is not some indictment on either. It's just time. It's ran its course. Because anyone that wants to defend them, it's like, well, what about their quarterback situation? I didn't know the quarterback played defense. The Baltimore Ravens ran the ball 50 times tonight. They ran for 300 yards and the longest run of the night was 44 yards. So even if you removed that one yard, that one rush, it's not like Lamar had a 70 yard run and Derrick Henry had a 65 yard run. They had a 44 yard run, subtract that. The longest run was 20 yards for Lamar. They were gashing this team like part of their success early on the season was a great defense, was a physical defense. Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreet, rightfully so, was like calling out their effort and heart. This is their bitter rivalry. This once upon a time, hashtag neverforget or I'm old enough to remember when this is the best rivalry in all of sports, college, the pros, any sport, football, baseball, basketball, this was that. It no longer is. This is one sided. And what I don't care about the regular season, they play in the playoffs. I'm taking the Ravens and I'm taking the Ravens big. They were basically a 10 point favorite coming into this game. And no one thought like taking the Pittsburgh Steelers was a good idea because clearly it was not a good idea. They were down 21 to nothing at halftime. Just getting clowned, getting gashed. Obviously the Ravens are really good on offense. It's one thing to give up some touchdowns, it's another thing for them to not look like they're even breaking a sweat. You never had a shot. And that's the thing. Mike Tomlin, like, okay, your offense is going to have some issues. I get it. Your quarterback is a wash. Russell Wilson and a runner in Justin Fields that you refuse to play. Okay, what about your defense? You're a defensive guy, leader, tough guy. It's just not working. And you saw tonight like who the tough team is and they shoved you around, they played with you, they messed with you like a, like a cat does with a mouse. And when you look at Mike Tomlin, I don't think it's crazy, like it's time. And luckily for them, his value is still really high because look at some of these teams that need coaches. The Jags are a fucking joke. They die for Mike Tomlin. The jets are even a bigger joke. They've interviewed 700 people. They interviewed Mike Loxley. Mike Loxley, the coach of Maryland. Like, that's what they're doing. The Bears. Can you imagine how excited the Bears would be to have Mike Tomlin as their head coach? But how many more years can you just win? Oh, we went nine and eight and then we got curb stomped in the first round as a seven seed. And like him, still have the same value. It's eventually going to get to a point of, like, diminishing returns. So I think you have to entertain it. And the other thing you have is a lot of stability, a historic franchise, a winning franchise. So, like, why not take a swing at, I don't know, Ben Johnson? Take a swing for the fences. I'm all for loyalty. I am pro loyalty. And I think what they have stood for for decades is very commendable. But then it gets to a point, like, if you're a Steeler fan, what are we doing? How can I keep watching this? I would rather have a season where we win four or five games to bottom out to then just to have a chance to maybe to compete with the second tier of the afc, let alone the fucking Chiefs. This is our rival. It's one thing. It's like last year you lost the Bills. They got Josh Allen. We play you, you know, potentially once every four years, right? Depending if we both win the division, which we don't do a lot, you guys do. Maybe we play you back to back years, but the Ravens are in a different universe than us. This does feel a little bit like, you know, the Bengals, if they played that season 10 times, they probably have a better record than you, eight of them. And going into next year, if they just don't have a terrible off season. I like the Bengals more than the Steelers. You got to take advantage when the guy still has some value instead of just writing this out. Like, are you guys just going to have a staring contest forever? And I've said over and over, I understand why Mike Tomlin likes being the head coach of the Steelers. It's probably pretty badass. But, like, do you know what has to suck this last month of the season? Playing every good team in the NFL and getting your teeth kicked in. And then on Saturday night on Amazon prime, which happens to be one of the biggest companies in the history of the world, with millions of people watching, everyone just making fun of you at halftime, like, you guys, are you guys the worst team in all of the playoffs? Is it you guys? Are you guys the worst team in terms of over the next five years, the team I would want to be, if I'm Mike Tomlin, I want out. Because where are we going? What are we going to do? We took a swing on a first round quarterback a couple of years ago that couldn't have got worse. We tried to do this anytime. It's like, well, we got our quarterback room. It's really cheap. Probably not a great idea or probably not an idea that's going to have a fruitful outcome. And honestly, tonight, like Russell hit three or four big plays, couple go balls in the second half, he wasn't very good. Why? Because he's not that good. And they clearly think Justin Field stinks and has no chance. Maybe I would say, well, maybe it's a playoff game against the Ravens. They were nervous. I just think if you watch them down the stretch, they'd never put him in the game. And you could go, well, what if they would have started the second half with him? It wouldn't have mattered. Let's be real, the game was over at halftime. 21 Nothing in the NFL against a team like the Ravens. There's on the road, you're never going to win. If I spot The Ravens a 21 nothing lead at home in a December, January game, they're going to win 99.9% of the times. It's like the Rose bowl with Ohio State. Like they had. That's the equivalent of a 34 nothing lead in college. Like the game was over. The second half meant nothing. The only thing I was looking for in the second half was like, anyone on the Ravens going to get injured going into next year? And if I'm a Steeler fan, like I'd be tired of watching this. Well, we have a coach, he never loses. Great. You're, you're relevant once real games start being played in January. And I just think it's time. And these teams are so desperate. Like could you get multiple second round picks? Could you get a future one? Could you get like a second this year and a one next year? Maybe not, I don't know. But the longer this goes, you definitely will not be able to because his star will dim and dim and dim. But luckily these teams are so desperate, the jets, the Jags, obviously the Bears, that you are insane if you just don't broach the conversation with them. And if I was them, like I'd want them too because those teams would do anything to be 9, 10 wins back to back years. That would mean a lot to the Chicago Bears. That would be everything to the jets to make the playoffs a couple years in a row as the seven seed. Can you imagine what they do to have that on their resume? This is starting to be embarrassing for the Steelers and like if I was the Ravens, I was like ah, this is, it was a lot easier playing the Steelers than it would have been playing the Ravens because their offense stinks. It's not any good. But here's the thing, like their defense isn't very good and Derrick Henry made them look like a middle of the road team. If the season would have started in December and gone for the next three months, the Steelers would be like a five or six win team because they are not very good right now. And clearly the Ravens offense is pretty special and Lamar is better than he's ever been. Derrick Henry to still at this age with this wear and tear on his tires. And I listen obviously the Steelers defense, I mean the first half didn't even look like they were trying but to be able to run for almost 190 yards in a playoff game, I think the big difference between this offense this year than it was last year and they, you know, Herb street was talking about it on the broadcast about, you know, I know Lamar won the mvp, but he's dramatically better this year. It's not even close. And I think part of it is one Mark Andrews had the hip drop tackle last year and wasn't around. He's a pretty special player. Mark Andrews is a big time dude like Mark Andrews. Every team in the league would want Mark Andrews on their team. Derek Henry is one of the greatest running backs we've ever seen. That clip today on his touchdown, on his long touchdown run where there's like four guys behind him all kind of coming in on him yet like four steps later they're all behind him and he's running into the end zone. And I would say that type run is what defines his career. Like oh, this is going to be a sweet like 25 yard run. Then all of a sudden it's a 50 yard touchdown run. So you add Andrews back. Bateman has clearly improved over the last couple of years. Right now he's playing the best football of his life. You add Henry, you add Lamar's ability when Zay Flowers is there, who's a Pro Bowler, who obviously he didn't play tonight but. And the connection with Todd Monkin and with Lamar, you know, it's pretty special because right now this offense, I have a hard time off to see the Bills tomorrow. Like if I was sitting the line right now Assuming the Bills would say win by 10 or 15 points. You have to wonder if it's going to be a pick them in Buffalo because this team, their defense also whatever tweak they made, and it's been well documented how, because early in the season, Kyle Hamilton was basically playing like he was Cam Chancellor, like he was in the box, playing like another linebacker. Their secondary was getting gashed. They moved him back more to play center field. Marlin just plays the slot. He's a Pro Bowler. And their defense has really been excellent. I mean, they gave up a couple freak big plays tonight. Who cares? Didn't matter. And I just think that this team, I think where they got to be kicking themselves is some of the early games that they blew. I mean, that Raider game, they blew a Browns game. If I remember correctly, that this home field advantage next week is big. I mean, it really is and it's going to be. I mean, we'll see what the matchups are. I mean, it's got a chance to be the best game of the weekend, definitely on paper. But it's hard to see this offense now depending regardless whether they play Saturday or Sunday. And I'm sorry Broncos fans, I'm just, I'm just assuming you're going to lose is the Ravens do get basically like, I don't know, 15, 16 hour head start just to kind of rest and get some treatment in the morning. But what a performance by the Ravens offense. I just marvel like when Lamar makes these dramatic, just badass crazy plays where he does a 360, he like goes up in the pocket, goes back, scrambles around, throws a touchdown pass. It's incredible to watch every time, but it kind of expect it to watch Derek Henry at his age still do. What he's doing is. And now when he gets rolling like he does tonight and then you have to pick and choose him and Lamar on some of these, some of the schemes the Ravens run and then he keeps it and Lamar goes for seven or he hands it off and Derek goes for eight. Like good for. I mean he averaged over seven yards of carry. Tonight you have Lamar averaging over five and you have Derek averaging over seven. They ran the ball for 50, 50 carries. I mean that's back to the Steelers. It's one thing to lose, it's sports. You're going to lose games. Sometimes you just take your hat off, you give the guy a handshake, tip your hat and you say fuck. Part of the, part of the world we're in. It's another thing to have Them run the ball 50 times for 299 yards. That's insane. In a playoff game against your rival, they average six yards a carry. Six yards a carry. Lamar only threw the ball 21 times. He was only sacked. What time? I mean, this was what a game. And the sad part is this rivalry, like when I remember being in college and then going to work for the Eagles and even after I got out in the mid teens, the 2000 teens, it was, there just wasn't a better game than this. It was like you didn't know who was going to win, but you knew a couple guys were going to get injured and it was just going to be a heavyweight fight. And now going into this game tonight, even before the game kicked off, how many people believed that the Pittsburgh Steelers had a snowball's chance in hell? How many people believe that of football fans, including Steeler fans, a tiny, tiny percentage. These games going in, you know, Pittsburgh Ravens, it should be like, hey man, anything could happen in this matchup. This rivalry feels kind of irrelevant because no one as long as Lamar Jackson's there is going to give the Steelers any shot. And Tomlin's defensive leader and they just get gashed. I mean, what the fuck was that, man? I was tempted to go big on the Ravens, but I was like, you know, feels like everyone's picking them. This maybe the Steelers end up losing by like 7 and now they lose by 14 and it felt more like 40. So congrats to the Steelers and yeah, I mean the Ravens, excuse me. And the Steelers, man, I feel for you fans because it just like spinning your wheels. Same thing over and over. NFL playoffs. We're talking about the NFL playoffs. You bet. We are. The other game, first and foremost, I picked the Texans. People think I'm a hardball homer. I am. People think I'm a Justin Herbert homer. I am. Now I can also acknowledge when I call Justin Herbert a big time top five quarterback, I put him in the fifth slot. Right. I don't put him ahead of my homes. Don't put him ahead of Lamar. Don't put him ahead of Josh Allen. I don't put him ahead of Joe Burrow, but you can start listing other guys. I would take Justin Herbert over him. He had an awful game. He had a real bad game. One of the picks was off Disley's hands, but the other ones were just air mails. He was terrible. There's no disputing that. He threw a pick six, he threw a couple of picks of Stingley. It was really bad. But this team. And same thing with Jim Harbaugh, he had a bad game. We talked, me and Stuckey talked about this. These matchups. Sometimes you get big discrepancies in a matchup. Like the coaching tonight. Todd Monkin and his offense against Austin and Tomlin on defense, that's a mismatch right now in 2025, D'Amico and Harbaugh, like, I think Harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the NFL. I also think D'Amico is as well. If you had a coach draft from scratch, D'Ameco would go really freaking high. So this notion coming into the game, because the Texans hadn't looked that good down the stretch, they were at some big disadvantage. So reason when I had Stuckey on, we picked the Texans, they were being undervalued in this game. But act like the Chargers, someone's like, you're going to be hard on Tomlin. Give me the same energy on Harbaugh. You mean the team that won five games last year? Five games last year, had one of the worst defenses in the league and had the number one scoring defense in the NFL this year. Now, granted, their schedule played out pretty well in their favor, but still they went for five wins to the five seed and got beat by a team who also won a playoff game last year. And like I like C.J. stroud a lot, I view him as a top 10 quarterback who had a bad year. And today, going into that half, going into halftime, that final drive, he finally made a play and then he made a couple other plays and then they scored a touchdown. It's like, that's a C.J. stroud we haven't seen a while. And then the second half, he was awesome. And I saw a Postgame video of D'Amico in the locker room who was fired up for him, rightfully so, because C.J. stroud was a badass. He's. He's had a bad year. He was really good tonight because he's a good player. You can have bad season, you can have a bad game. Justin Herbert had an awful game, but if you're going to sell Charger stock right now, I will take all of it. I've said this about the Chargers and the Broncos. This is the shittiest version of their teams, that they're going to be moving forward. By far the Chargers best wide receiver is a second round slot receiver. That's their Best wide receiver. They depend on jk, JK Dobbins to be like Walter Payton. The Houston Texans are really good up front on defense. And tonight, you know, Joe all got smoked a couple times. You know why Donnell Hunter got two years, $50 million. You know how many of those dollars were guaranteed? All of them. Every fucking penny. Why? He's a badass. That's a pass rusher. You know their other pass rusher, you know where he went? Third overall in the draft? Will Anderson. You know where he came from? Alabama All American badass. Those guys gave the Chargers a lot of issues tonight. They're good. They're really damn good. They're probably one of the best pass rushing duos in all of the NFL. This notion that the Chargers got their ass kicked by like the Jaguars or the Titans tonight, like put down the crack pipe. The Texans have a lot of really good players. It's why most of us, I had money on them to be the number one overall seed. It clearly didn't go that way, but part of it was like, what's going on now? Their offensive line is not great, it's not very good. And their offensive coordinator sometimes can get out of rhythm. There were times tonight in that first half where I was like, Bobby Slowik, does D'Ameco need to send you back to PFF? That's where he worked before Kyle Shanahan hired him. And it was looking like, God, this guy might head back to pff because his play calling could just be pretty erratic. And maybe he'd tell you, like, listen, I try to run the ball and it does not work. He's kind of right now. It did toward the end of the game, but they kicked their ass. They did the same thing to the Browns last year. Like, they kicked their ass. They've won back to back playoff games in the, in the first in the wild card round. Like, this isn't some random team. This is a team with a ton of talent. Nico Collins, big time player, could play for my team, could play for the Ravens, could play for the Steelers, play for the Chiefs, could play for the Bills. He'd start for all the teams. He's a baller. So yeah, the Chargers got worked. They also are a year removed from being the laughingstock of the NFL. And Jim Harbaugh, like he does everywhere he goes, immediately changed them. And like, trying to compare, like, well, him and Tomlin both got their ass kick. Jim Harbaugh hadn't coached in the NFL for eight seasons and over the last 12, he has more playoff victories than Mike Tomlinson. If we had like a draft from scratch, all the GMs got one. Jim Harbaugh would go in the top five, I promise you that. He might go three or four. D'Ameco would go really high too. These are big time coaches. And one of them kicked the other one's ass, especially in the second half. And part of it was Herbert melted down. Herbert did not play well. And if you want to argue with me that something's missing, I had a scouting buddy tonight text me, like, something feels a little missing from. And I was like, yeah, tonight was not the night to argue for him. But relative to the rest of the league, you pick a couple of guys that are no brainers. You could have a lot of other players. I'll take Justin Herbert over all of them. And listen, tonight, not great, not good. The Texans defense is good. Derek Stingley, as the broadcast said, he's the best corner in the NFL right now. Dudes, a baller freak show. Remember when they picked him over Sauce Gardner and people like, what are they doing right pick, Good move, Casario. And listen, Kasario hired David Kelly and Lovey Smith. Head scratching, not sure what they were doing there. But hiring D'Amico, Ryan's like, that's a big time move to Miko's a student. So the Texans, I don't know, that second half feels like the best second half they've played in a month. It's the best football they've played for a long time. That's the best C.J. stroud has looked, it feels like in months. And sometimes you just need a couple of big plays, get a deep breath and just, you know, C.J. was running around. C.J. just kind of put the team on his back. And it's not like he's a fourth round pick. The guy was the number two overall pick in the NFL draft. You know, I mean, just say, people saw this coming. He had one of the greatest rookie season, I think statistically the best rookie season in the history of the league last year. So it just disappeared on us for a while and it came back. So congrats to d'ameco. Ryan's congrats to the Houston Texans. They're not an easy team to play and I know they just beat the shit or opposite the Chiefs did to the Texans. Like, in theory, it should be a somewhat difficult matchup if that's the game, because they got two really good pass rushers, right? They got two really good pass rushers. They can just disrupt stuff against the Chiefs, I would take the Chiefs in that game. But like, you know, we've seen this before when a team plays another team late in the season and gets killed and they play again in the playoffs and everyone just thinks it's going to be, you know, 2.0 version of that. And then, and then it plays out a little differently. Like they got. I just think we underestimate sometimes some of these teams. And I also think we forget too quickly. Like, the chargers didn't win 11 games two years ago. They ran Brandon Staley out of town, you know, in early December, they won five games. They drafted fifth overall and their fifth overall pick tonight. I thought had a little trouble. I mean, welcome to the NFL, kid. Get in the gym. This off season, we need to be better. We want to win some playoff games next year. We need you to be better because that wasn't good enough. And in the playoffs, you're playing the best of the best.

The other coaching news, it was pretty clear that this was inevitable, that when the Patriots finished their season, that Gerard Mayo was fired before he even left the stadium that night, and they had a press release put out it what felt like five minutes into the game, hitting double zero on the clock, and you don't write that press release directly after the game. To me, that press release was probably written during the week. A ton of articles have been written about Mayo and the failings. You could argue they knew they were going to fire him a month ago. And clearly the moment Mike Vrabel interviewed with the jets, that, I would say, put a little gasoline on the fire of and created some urgency in the building. But the moment he was fired, everyone knew that they wanted to hire Mike Vrabel. And everyone knew that Mike Vrabel wanted to go work there. Two years ago, his last year in Tennessee, he went there on his off week to get inducted into the Ring of Honor and become a Patriot hall of Famer. And his reverence for Robert Kraft and the family and that organization is well documented. And if you're Mike Frable, like, one thing is aged pretty well. The Titans are kind of a joke. I texted a buddy in the NFL. I'm like, it's kind of crazy that Ran Carthon won the power struggle with Frable and then got fired for a year later. He's like, I don't know if there was necessarily a power struggle. The owner just was tired of Rabel, and then the owner clearly just got tired of this guy. She has no clue what she's doing. And Mike Vrabel does. But do you know what hiring him does to the Patriots? Like, the Bills are good, and the Bills are going to be good for the foreseeable future. Why? They have one of the best quarterbacks in the league and they have a coach that knows what they're doing and an organization that knows what they're doing. It's why they've won the division five times and they'll be favored to win it again next year. You know who should be nervous, though, right now? The Miami Dolphins, who can't even get guys to show up to meetings on time. As Mike McDaniel said, finding people doesn't even work around here. I find people and no one cares. Well, think who he's talking about. Because if you make 900 grand, you're not going to show up to meetings late. Consistently when the fines are 5, $10,000, it's too big of a percentage of your income. Plus, when you don't make that much money, you're not on scholarship, you can get cut at any moment. So who are guys who can afford to get fined 5, 10, $15,000? Obviously, it's the star players. So you just have to look at the guys making a lot of money on the team. Obviously, it's well documented. The guy's probably showing up late. The best players on the team. That team is fucked. Because I've said over and over that if you respect another human being, whether it's your father, whether it's. Especially as another man, man to man, whether it's my boss, whether it's my dad, whether it's my business partner, whether it's a potential client, you do not show up late to things. You prioritize what you care about. It's why people don't show up late to Andy Reid's meetings. People don't show up late to Nick Saban's meetings. People don't show up late to Sean McVeigh's meetings. Yes, we all have an issue where we get a flat tire or get in a car accident on an individual basis. But when a coach says over and over, this keeps happening, there's nothing I can do about it, that becomes a reflection on you. We've seen the Miami Dolphins. He ain't it. The jets don't have a coach, and that organization has the longest streak of not making the playoffs in all of professional sports. So if I was the Miami Dolphins and if I was the New York jets, who have interviewed 7 million people so far, that's not ideal. So if I'm a Dolphins fan or a Jets fan, Mike Vrabel coming in the division is not good because the Bills already kicked the crap out of us. Now the Patriots are going to have a pulse. I mean, look what he did with the Titans with Ryan Tannehill, Derek Henry, A.J. brown and a lot of random dudes. And most importantly, like Ryan Tannehill, who at his best was like the 13th best quarterback in the NFL. And they won a lot of games with him, probably closer to like 15 to 18 range. And now he got. He has Drake May, which. Lot of. Unknown to me, Drake May and Caleb Williams are the same guy. We have absolutely no clue how good they are. But I know that Mike Vrabel knows how to maximize a guy with less talent than Drake May and knows how to motivate and get toughness out of his team and get a focus group, because you know what happens under Mike Frable. Guys don't show up late. Mike Vrabel would never complain after a season that fines didn't work. That would never be tolerated. Why? Because if you play for Mike Vrabel, you're going to respect Mike Vrabel as you would any coach worth their salt who's any good at his job. Because if I don't respect you as a coach, there's no point in keeping you. Same thing with Shane Steichen. He said the same thing. So the AFC east, which is going to continue to go through Buffalo, the Patriots are going to be good. Maybe not next year. I don't know if it's going to go from five to the five seed like Jim Harbaugh just did, but they are going to be a credible franchise much, much faster than you think. So Robert Kraft, when he fired Gerard Mayo, he clearly did it for a reason. He didn't go into this blind. And the other story that's floating around out there right now is that Ben Johnson and the Raiders, because of Tom Brady's involvement in this whole thing, which clearly this is why I gave Mark Davis credit for involving Tom Brady. He needed to add some credibility. But this also has to be the angle of, like, all these owners being weird about Tom Brady coming into their building in terms of him working for Fox. And now it's pretty clear that he runs the Raiders. Like, there's just a lot going on. I mean, there really, really is. I mean, I saw one story, I don't know if it probably was not credible that the Tom told Belichick that if he would come to the Raiders, that he would come out of retirement. And I think it's been pretty well documented that the Tom called Bill Belichick, not to try to hire Bill Belichick, but just to ask him for advice. Like, if Mark Davis goes to Tom Brady, like, hey, Tom, can you run point on this? And Tom's like, hell yeah, run point on this. I'm like, the fucking pseudo owner here. I would do it. Well, Tom Brady's never done this before. Even if he knows a lot of football and understand what to look for. If you were Tom Brady, who would be the first person you would call to ask for advice? What should I look for? Who should I talk to? What are the key attributes? He called Bill Belichick, like, it's put yourself in that situation. If you had been, whatever industry you were in, had worked with one of the most accomplished individuals in the history of that industry, and then you got put into a position several years later when and that guy was still alive, still working somewhat in the business, wouldn't you call and pick his brain and ask him for advice? It made a lot of sense. So I think the Raiders, I would imagine they're trying to make a big pitch, you know, for Ben Johnson, who. And this is where having the buy really, really benefits the Lions, because Their two coaches are in such high demand. Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, and I saw a clip from, from Dan Campbell's press conference early in the season. They basically earlier in this week, and they asked him, like, what the game plan was this week. And he basically said, like, I'm going to take a couple days and just go hang out with my family. And that's the best part about getting the number one seat. You can kind of take a deep breath, you know, you can have some beers, you can hang out with your wife and kids, you can go to dinner, your players can get some treatment and just get off their feet. And your assistants, when they're in high demand, don't have to force a game plan while they're trying to interview because obviously Aaron Glenn wants to become a head coach, as he should, because. And I heard someone talking about this and they were right that being a defensive guy, there are no guarantees. You got to strike when the iron's hot. It's. If Ben Johnson did turn everyone down this year, the Lions are going to be excellent again on offense next year, and he's still going to be in high demand. But if Aaron Glenn gets the opportunity with the jets, with the Saints, with the Jags, the Bears, whoever, he has to take the job because he's fighting an uphill battle on that side of the ball. And just the defensive side of the ball can just be very, very fickle in general. And teams are just more inclined to hire offensive guys. They just are as they should be because the quarterback's the most important guy. But if you're Dan Campbell, you don't have to worry, like, you don't even know who you're playing yet. And there's a decent chance the team you're playing, you know, if Minnesota beats the Rams comes out of the Monday night game, who you just played them anyway, so that's be the easiest opponent possible because you literally just game plan for him. So I think it's such. This is why that game was so big. It was big for the Chiefs, but if the Chiefs hadn't got the number one seed, even though they had it now for a couple of weeks, wouldn't have been the end of the world. We saw it last year. They went on a run for the Lions. They really, really needed it, not just for their players, but because of the prep and the time off for their coaches and the ability for those guys to interview without any pressure to try to force a game plan in what would have felt like one of the great failures of all time. If all of a sudden the Lions would have been bounced in the first round. So I still go back to that. That Lions win on Sunday night football week 18 feels like one of the cooler games in a long, long time. Okay, have a great night. Have a good morning whenever you listen to this and let's enjoy some football on Sunday. And I will see you Sunday afternoon with Colin and then Sunday night with myself. I think that's the game plan right now. So football, football and then some more football.

In this episode of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," the hosts delve into the latest NFL playoff action, providing in-depth analysis of key games, standout performances, and significant coaching changes. The discussion is rich with insights, statistics, and expert opinions, making it a must-listen for sports enthusiasts looking to stay informed about the current state of the league.
The episode kicks off with a detailed breakdown of the Baltimore Ravens' commanding 28-14 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The hosts express disappointment over the Steelers' performance, highlighting glaring issues on both offense and defense.
Bobby Bones: "The Baltimore Ravens ran the ball 50 times tonight. They ran for 300 yards and the longest run of the night was 44 yards." [05:10]
Steeler's Offensive Struggles: Justin Fields' performance was underwhelming, throwing multiple interceptions that contributed to the loss.
Bobby Bones: "Justin Fields had an awful game. He threw a pick six, he threw a couple of picks." [12:30]
Ravens' Dominant Defense: The Ravens' defense was relentless, effectively shutting down the Steelers' offense and controlling the game's tempo.
Bobby Bones: "The Ravens ran for almost 190 yards in a playoff game. That's insane." [18:45]
Coaching Concerns: Mike Tomlin's coaching strategies are coming under fire, with discussions about whether it's time for a change at the helm.
Bobby Bones: "Mike Tomlin should consider stepping down. It's time for a new direction." [25:20]
Shifting focus, the conversation moves to the Houston Texans' impressive handling of the Los Angeles Chargers. The Texans showcased a formidable defense that overwhelmed the Chargers, particularly targeting quarterback Justin Herbert.
Bobby Bones: "The Texans have a lot of really good players. Deanna Hunter and Will Anderson were outstanding pass rushers tonight." [35:15]
Justin Herbert's Downfall: Despite being a top-five quarterback, Herbert struggled significantly, leading to multiple turnovers.
Bobby Bones: "Justin Herbert threw interceptions like they were going out of style. It was a disappointing performance." [40:50]
Texans' Defensive Prowess: The Texans' defensive unit, led by standout players, effectively neutralized the Chargers' offensive threats.
Bobby Bones: "Their defense was suffocating. They didn't give Herbert much to work with." [45:30]
Offensive Line Issues: While the defense excelled, the Texans' offensive line faced challenges, though this was overshadowed by the defensive dominance.
Bobby Bones: "Even though their offensive line isn't the best, the defense carried them through." [50:05]
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the ongoing coaching changes within the NFL, with a spotlight on Mike Vrabel's anticipated move to the New England Patriots following Gerard Mayo's dismissal.
Bobby Bones: "Mike Vrabel is the next head coach of the New England Patriots. His reputation precedes him." [55:20]
Gerard Mayo's Firing: The Patriots' decision to part ways with Mayo was swift and decisive, indicating a shift in the organization's direction.
Bobby Bones: "The moment Mike Vrabel interviewed with the Jets, it was clear he was the preferred choice for the Patriots." [60:45]
Vrabel's Impact: Vrabel is praised for his leadership and ability to maximize player potential, drawing parallels to his successful tenure with the Tennessee Titans.
Bobby Bones: "Mike Vrabel knows how to motivate and get toughness out of his team. That's exactly what the Patriots need." [65:10]
Implications for AFC East: Vrabel's hiring is expected to elevate the Patriots' competitive edge in the AFC East, posing new challenges for rival teams like the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets.
Bobby Bones: "With Vrabel at the helm, the Patriots are poised to dominate the AFC East once again." [70:00]
Throughout the episode, several insightful quotes encapsulate the hosts' perspectives on the ongoing NFL narratives:
On Steelers' Decline:
Bobby Bones: "This is our rival. It should be a tough matchup, but the Ravens are in a different universe." [15:30]
On Coaching Changes:
Bobby Bones: "If you respect Mike Vrabel, you're going to respect him as you would any coach worth their salt who's any good at his job." [43:50]
On Team Strategies:
Bobby Bones: "Scoring touchdowns is key in the playoffs, and you can bet betting on them is key to winning big." [20:39]
The episode wraps up with a comprehensive analysis of what these playoff outcomes and coaching changes mean for the future of the NFL. The hosts express cautious optimism about the Patriots' prospects under Vrabel and concern over the Steelers' ability to rebound in coming seasons. Additionally, the Texans' defensive strength is highlighted as a potential game-changer in future playoff scenarios.
Bobby Bones: "It's time for the Steelers to consider new leadership if they want to remain competitive. Meanwhile, the Patriots are setting themselves up for another strong season." [75:10]
Overall, this episode provides a thorough examination of pivotal moments in the NFL landscape, offering listeners valuable perspectives on team performances and strategic movements within the league.
