This is an iHeart podcast. Guaranteed human the volume. What is going on everybody? John Middelkopf three and out podcast brought to you by my friends at Zone Pouches just watched the you survive in advance because that is exactly what they did and that's all you got to do in the college football playoffs. Survive in advance. And the University of Miami will host the national championship in South Florida. That's pretty cool. Awesome moment. For all you know the Michael Irvin's and the Ray Lewis is Mario Cristobal who played with those guys way back in the day. Obviously huge night for just a storied program who'd fallen on hard times and is now rattled off three big victories survived by the skin of their teeth. Tonight though, they were in shambles there for a while. Great night, prideful night if you're an Ole Miss fan. Sucks to lose, but incredible run. Trinidad, Kewan, Lacey. It was fun. So we'll talk about that game. The Miami Dolphins fired their coach Mike McDaniel today. I think all signs now it feels like point to John Harbaugh as their next head coach. That seems like the most logical move given that they just fired their coach on a Thursday. A little weird. Had a fugazi with the University of Washington quarterback because it's fugazi Friday, but he's actually not leaving at the 90s. He's going to return. So we'll discuss that as well as the mailbag at John Middle Cop. At John Middle Cop is the Instagram fire in those DMS and get your messages read here on the show. We will be live again tomorrow on YouTube so make sure you subscribe to that. After the Oregon Indiana game, obviously winner takes on Miami. I think Jackson will join me. Jackson went to the game that I just saw he posted on social media. He was interviewing Michael Irvin as they were walking off the field. So he's, he's enjoying himself out in Glendale. More power to him making that drive. But what a night to be there. Cool, cool night to see that game. And we'll just keep on swinging. Subscribe to the podcast as well. If you Listen on Collins Feed 3 and out, Apple, Spotify, wherever you listen, we got you covered. So let's just dive into some football. What a massive moment for the University of Miami. This was a program when I was a kid in the late 90s, early 2000s by far. I would say when I was probably like elementary, junior high going into high school, the best athlete in Northern California was DJ Williams and back. It wasn't that long ago. You know, a lot of people, the best recruit stayed semi locally. Like if you were a great player in California, you went to ucla, you went to usc, maybe you went to Oregon or Washington. He was so good, he went to the University of Miami. I mean, this was, this was like 2000 or 2001. And I ended up, you know, in high school, played against his brothers that ended up playing at Cal. But I just remember thinking like, that's like an NFL program. And they were the coolest thing I would say in America when I was young and even up through high school, heading in, you know, early on into college and 020304 range and then they just haven't mattered that much. And tonight for Mario to rattle off games against two SEC schools and, you know, win that game last week against Ohio State, there is no disputing. His team is built a lot like an NFL team. They're fantastic on the line of scrimmage. They have somewhat of a game manager at quarterback. It looks like they got Tyreek Hill at 18 years old playing wide receiver. They got fantastic running back, they got NFL defensive lineman. I thought that they were working Ole Miss throughout the game. The problem was, is the score was like 17 to 13, 19 to 17, that they, they could never extend the lead. They were losing in the fourth quarter. They had, they dropped four interceptions. They, they had a bunch of penalties from, you know, offensive linemen, holding from offensive lineman, jumping off sides. Clearly they were gassed from targeting penalties, which nothing grinds my gears more. These guys are 18, 19, 20 years old. The majority of them are not going to be first and second round picks. For most of these guys, this will be the pinnacle of their athletic career. Even if they go to the NFL, a lot of them might be like a practice squad guy or whatever. These guys are starting in the Final Four. College football in an NFL arena with 20, 30 million people watching on TV. No one at this point in time is trying to hurt anybody. All these guys are so fast. Everyone knows the rules at this point in time. They've been coached from peewees to not lead with their crown of the helmet. This is not, you know, John lynch and Steve Atwater and guys like that cracking skulls. So I, I'm not even against throwing a penalty. They're the rules. You're trying to get rid of the concussions, mitigate these lawsuits. But to kick these young kids, these guys are kids out of a game is just, it's like criminal activity to me. It's insanity. I think it's Crazy. I. The. The first year, I understand it, but when I watched that, I'm like, you're kicking this guy out of the game and he's got to miss the first half of the national championship game. It really makes me mad. And some of these, to me, like, these aren't like blatant, vicious hits. These are just wham, bam, guys are moving, guys are changing body positions. But everything felt like it was kind of unraveling for Miami. And you look up, they dominated the time of possession. They were running the ball down Ole Miss's throat. But the one thing you will say about the running rebs is there was like a cockroach thing to them. Like, it was hard to kill them. It really was. Even early in the game, it felt like, could Miami just strangle these guys out? It kind of. And I was texting some people kind of had like a Seattle 49er drive feel to the game. Like the first five, six minutes, you're like, one team is just way more physical. They're just going to physically overwhelm them. Then all of a sudden, ke1lacy, who. He'll be an NFL player one day. He's only a true sophomore. Takes 170 plus to the CRIP. You're like, you just can't count these guys out. And obviously, as the game goes on, the best part about Miami is the reason I put a decent amount. You know, I was supposed to cash out all my winnings from my parlay, but I got a little gambler in me, so threw a little on Miami. Problem was I got greedy. I didn't take the three and a half. I went to four and a half to get better odds. Obviously, they only won by four, so that sucked. But I didn't deserve it because honestly, Miami could have easily lost this game. You can't have. And listen, they mentioned this on the broadcast. There's typically a reason defensive backs play that position and not wide receiver. There's a small percentage of guys like Deion Sanders or whatever that obviously could have done both. Most of the guys, their, their hands aren't great, but, like, at the highest levels of Division 1 and the NFL, there are certain interceptions that you and I should be able to make. In Miami, they dropped four, but two of them were ones I think high school kids make. I mean, those are ones that in the film room, the DB coach is going to look at the guy, be like, what? How does this happen? And it can't happen in moments like this because, listen, you're in the final four. You're playing Ole Miss is really good. They really are situational football. Their offense is really explosive. Their defense is just feisty. Their D line, I mean, Saban was talking about Perkins the pass rusher before the game. He's really talented. Coming off the edge, it feels like they just play much better as a unit than they are as like individuals beside him. But I think Miami is going to be like, we played like shit. We did not play well. And if we played a team. Listen, this is why I like Miami a lot in this game. I thought they were just way more talented. They just have way more NFL guys, especially on the line of scrimmage. The other thing is, you could argue Ole Miss's best NFL prospect beside Perkins might be Lacy. And he, he got, you know, he had a hamstring injury. He, hell, he wasn't 100% in the previous game with the shoulder. And then today, you know, he puts on the sleeve and they're working him out at halftime. They kind of used him as a decoy in the second half. But the end of the day, this is, this tournament is like the NCAA tournament basketball survive in advance so you can coach them up, you can figure out the mistakes later. You had more points than they did at the end of the game. And Carson Beck, who is a very bizarre player because he can make individual throws from the pocket that are like, damn, that is a great drive throw over the middle right. That is a great. Just let it rip. Step up in the pocket. He hit a deep bomb today that was scrambling to his right, kind of, you know, stepped back in to avoid the pass rusher, let it rip him, and the guy was wide open, but it was, was a really nice play. And then he makes other throws, like on some of these out routes. He doesn't have a bad arm by any means. I wouldn't say he's Caleb Williams, but some of these out routes and some of these down the field throws, his like, lob touch, it's just very bizarre. I, I don't know what to make of him. I mean, I, I think he showed enough over the course of these big games. Like he's going to get drafted on the third day, though. But he came through in the clutch when it mattered. Made some big throws, has made some big runs tonight, the previous couple games, keeping plays alive with his legs. They talked about it on the broadcast that the OC has been showing him NFL film. I mean, he's big and trying to teach him like you can fall forward and gain an extra yard or Two. So if you're scrambling on second and five, it can be the difference of you falling down three yards and, and gaining that extra two yards and getting a first down. He's doing a pretty good job of that. He's clearly a pretty tough guy, but he made some big plays and at the end of the day like it'll be a very memorable moment in the history of, I, I don't know, one of the more sacred programs of this great sport of him running that ball in at the end of the game. Now part of it is Ole Miss is completely gassed. They had been on the field, I think the snap before they said 88 snaps so close to 90 snaps and the U took advantage of it. They did a good job on that final drive. Scored a touchdown with only 18 seconds. Because the other thing is, even if the other team doesn't have timeouts, in college football, unlike the pros, the clock, the clock stopping when you, when you get a first down is really can shorten the game. It's also why like when Trinidad throws, threw the touchdown, I think there were Miami got the ball back with 3 minutes and 13 seconds. Well, they also had timeouts that might as well be six or seven minutes when you factor in the clock stopping at first downs. Like college game just goes a lot slower that way. So I don't blame Trinidad at all for letting it rip. I mean they went six plays, 75 yards in a minute, 50 seconds to gain the lead 27 to 24. Like you can't nitpick it at that, you're just trying to score. But they left him a lot of time and Miami did a good job. And part of it is because they can run the ball of, you know, driving down the field, mixing in some runs and scoring with 18 seconds left. And even that being said, Trinidad had a pass with six seconds left, you know, from 40 yards away. So I, I, I, I do think that it was a fun game. It was extremely entertaining, partly because Miami kept him in the game by doing stupid. Part of it because Ole Miss stays in the game because that's who they are. And the other thing is this 18 year old kid, Tony the, the number 10 for Miami, he is a special player. It's different. But remember last year when we saw Jeremiah Smith in every game you'd watch Ohio State and he's playing with at the time a Mecca Buca, who's a first round pick. Tate is going to be a first round pick. I mean he's playing with elite talent. They got A bunch of other guys are going to get drafted. His whole team, he played on an NFL team. It's like that guy's the best player on the team. That's what I felt like, especially tonight. I mean, obviously Macedor and you know, Bain is a top 10 pick, but they, they didn't do that much tonight in terms of the pass rush, I, I don't remember Trinidad really getting pressured by them very often. I don't remember Bane on Trinidad in the backfield at all. From a pass rush standpoint, the best player on the field tonight for Miami was the running back Fletcher, who's, I mean a big time player. He's, he's really good. He had 22 carries for 133 yards. But Malachi, Tony's 5 for 81 do not do justice what we just witnessed, his presence on the field, the catch he made that was out of bounds. I don't know if he's quite as fast because Tyreek is, I don't know, besides like Randy Moss or Deion Sanders, like one of the fastest players in the history of the sport of football. Tony's play speed though is elite. And some guys, and this is what to me makes special players. When we talk about the all time great players, you can go position by position. There's like an instinctive quality to their ability. They just like, this guy was just born to play football. And when you watch 10, you're like, this guy was just born to play football. He was a three star recruit. Now sometimes you can get, you know, undervalued in certain areas for whatever reason, which is crazy being a kid from Florida, but he is, he's elite. I mean he had 95 catches this year. If they are able to get their version, I mean people have been like, well can they get Jeremiah Smith who's also from Florida, get him a transfer. That's probably not happening. But find another guy who can just be, you know, a draft type pick, right? A second, third, fourth rounder to go along with him. They will have an unstoppable wide receiver core because he is going to be right there with Jeremiah Smith next year. Is the best two wide receivers in the country. He is a dominant, dominant player. I, I've been from the jump when they played Notre Dame and he was a true freshman. He played. And you're like, God, this guy's pretty good to where he's at now. Like, I'm the best player on the field. You guys are the best team in the SEC right now. I'm going to run circles around you guys. He feels like he's getting open non stop. They're. They're scheming plays for him. That sweet CFL play when they ran him on that, on the motion, and he got a lot of depth and he just beat the guy to the side. You're like, God, this guy is. This guy is sweet. So that, that was, that was really, really fun to watch him. Him and Fletcher tonight were just. Were pretty special for Miami because defensively, like, they weren't as good as the last couple weeks. They simply weren't. And some of that could be maybe. Ole Miss's tackles clearly held up better. Trinidad gives much more mobility than Ohio State's guy. If Ole Miss was able to pull this off, it's not apples to apples, because before the transfer portal, this never would have happened. The schools didn't have personnel departments funneling tape to coaches. To just look at all these kids at playing at all these schools, you know, from D1, double A to D2, it just. This guy never would have ended up in the sec. But I still don't think that diminishes what an incredible accomplishment it is for this guy to go Division 2 and a year later. It's one thing to even just get an offer to go to the sec, then end up starting and be on a team that had a lead in the final four with under four minutes to go against a team with probably 10 to 12 starters that are going to the NFL, like, going to get drafted. That, that. And he's every bit as good as anyone on the field. I mean, that final drive and really all night, he's always looking to go deep. He's really accurate on the move. He's tough as shit. There were points in time in this game when, when clearly Lacy's banged up. I mean, he only had 11 carries, and if you remove the 70 yard run, he only had 10 carries for 30 yards. So it's not like Ole Miss could really run the ball. It really fell on his shoulders and he had to make plays against, you know, multiple guys that are going to get drafted. A bunch of front seven guys that can fly and hit. It's like, yeah, I'm every bit as good as these guys. And it looked like that. So it's weird, right? If you're Ole Miss, you're thinking, we had a lead to go to the national championship with under four minutes to go. Yet at the same time, it's like, that was a miraculous season. And when Lane left you, you know, it became this kind of crazy story and rightfully so. Clearly everyone thought you were going to be too lame, but after that, like it was going to be over. Not only was it not over, you beat Georgia, you easily could have beat Miami. It's one of those, I think they're probably the one team of the four that if you lose this game, you kind of hold your head high, right? If Miami lost this game, it would have been devastating. It would have been tough to shake for Mario. It's like you dominated on the ground. Pretty sure you dominated time, little time, possession, 40 to 8, 41 to 18. It would have been, you know, Mario's team at 10 penalties. It's like you dominated the game. Should have had four picks. You had the ball for 40 minutes. Somehow you had six more penalties than them. And honestly, it felt like 15 more penalties. This would have been one for Mario. Where even SEC fans would agree, you've got the better team. You are physically dominating them. How do you lose this game? But no one can say shit. It's part of surviving. Advance, you win, I'm in the natty playmaker. Ray Lewis, Edron James, Reggie Wayne, Fire up that PJ and we'll see you down. Where's this game in Miami. It's going to be a huge home field advantage for those guys. I was much more confident on my. I thought Miami might blow them out. I almost, I was looking at some alternate lines at like nine and a half. You get like +225. I'm like, Ah, that's a, that's a little bold. I went, I just went to four and a half. But there are points in time, like if they can just get a touchdown here, like they take a 11 point lead, you can kind of smother them. But that's not really Miami. I mean, they're not going to blow out the good teams. They're going to play in games. I mean, all three of their games have kind of looked somewhat similar. They're all really close. If a bounce goes here, bounce goes there. It could go the other way. And some of that's Mario. And listen, I'm not saying he's not doing a good job. He's doing fantastic. He's resurrected this program. But you kind of felt them getting tight there for a little bit. Maybe there was a little fatigue, the offensive lineman part of it. You run the ball so much. But if Miami had lost, I. It would have been devastating. Like that crew of all the legends, it would have been tough for them to hit the town tonight. In Scottsdale that being said, Scottsdale better watch out because the playmaker and that crew, they're coming. So the clubs in Old Town buckle up. The. And honestly, the run of reps probably coming too, and they should. It should be celebrated. Pete Golding and what he was able to do with all the guys leaving was pretty incredible. And the fight and the heart this team showed the last couple of weeks, I mean, last week they were down nine points at halftime. This, this week, that was score 17 to 13 and a half. It was 17, 13 a half at Miami. Their kicker, who feels like Adam Vinitari or Justin Tucker in his prime, missed a kick, had another one that goes off the uprights. Miami's guy missed a kick too. This field can be a little weird. I mean, clearly it's. It's not great. Honestly, I hate everything about this stadium. It's out in BFE and Glendale. Pain in the ass to get to it. Looks pretty good on tv, but I've never. The field always feels just not great. Remember a couple years ago with the Eagles and Chiefs, they hated the field. I do think there's some. Some situation there with. The owner is kind of cheap. I mean, he's probably getting cheap grass, refusing to pay for water. But from an entertainment standpoint, it was really entertaining. And Trinidad is one of the coolest stories in college sports in a long, long time. Division 2 to starting at quarterback for a team in the final Four, college football. And that team's not Alabama, that's Ole Miss. I mean, I had people texting me like, how do you do this? I'm like, well, the starter that replaced Jackson, Dart got injured. Then he came in, they started rolling and he just never pulled him out. And clearly his running and he's got a big arm. I mean, he's not very big, but his touch on the move is just. Is elite. He was. He's really, really fun to watch. And clearly he's trying to get another year of eligibility because one of the years at Ferris State, I think one year he redshirt and the other year he was injured. So he's fighting it. We don't have clarity there. Hopefully, for an entertainment standpoint, he gets it because I do think that'd be pretty cool. You know, Lacey's already committed to come back, kicker's committed to come back. Trinidad is committed to come back. As long as he gets it. I don't know if Ole Miss is back in this spot, but if Trinidad gets granted another year eligibility, they're going to be good. I mean, Lacy's clearly one of the best running backs in the country. Trinidad is clearly one of the best quarterbacks in the country. You just play in a lot of close games when you're in the Big Ten or the sec. They have this weapon at kicker. So I mean their coach, one of the cool visuals in the pre game was Pete Golding. Like when he got hired Alabama, he just had this brown curly hair. Now he just, I mean it's all gray. Shows you what the SEC will do to you. Meanwhile you look at Mario, he looks fantastic. But that, that was, that, that was fun. Really, really enjoyed it. I hope tomorrow's game is just as entertaining close even if it's some penalties and some, some interceptions. I mean the one interception on Carson back was not necessarily his fault. The ball gets tipped and they catch it. Meanwhile Miami and he's got to be like how do my DBs can't catch. And the answer is yeah, they can't catch because some of these are just like Willie Mays dropping in their hands. They're dropping them. I mean the one deep bomb that Trinidad threw that bounces off the DB and the wide receiver to 24. It literally right in his hands. And it's not like it's flying. I mean it's just, it's a little lob right into his hands. It just hits the ground. That, that was by far the worst one. Now granted that would have been at like the 10 or 5 yard line, but still that was, that was rough. But Miami's in the national championship. We'll see how they came out health wise. Messador got injured, but he came back in the game. They lost loft in the tight end when he got smashed across the middle. There were some big hits in this game. Miami was laying the wood. Ole Miss was, was hitting. Ole Miss was good. You know, I think I was guilty of being like, you know, Ole Miss is kind of like the little engine that could. They have a good offense. But their defense, their defense not bad. They're, they're front pretty good pass rush, linebackers tackle well, even though they missed some tackles tonight, I think missed tackles have been a problem for them. But they're also, I mean look at the teams they're playing and their defensive like their safety's hit corners try hard. They, they play their ass off. So that, that was. They earned a lot of respect. As someone that bet against them tonight, I, I leave that game with a lot of respect. And Miami makes me nervous. They definitely have the high end talent to win the national championship. There is no disputing that when you can run 50 times for 200 yards. Control the ball on the, on the ground. Obviously it'll be more difficult against Indiana or Oregon, especially Indiana, but that's what they're going to do. Like they're going to run the ball and both, I mean Fletcher is really good, but the backup running back was running his ass off. Like that's, that's their formula. Run the ball, control the clock, play like an NFL team, play like Seattle, play D. So I just think at home it's going to be a crazy home game. Very, very cool night for, you know, once very proud program. We had some breaking news today that Steven Ross I assumed just because everyone that covers the sport was like, yeah, Mike McDaniel's coming back. And then Monday goes by, Tuesday goes by. By the time you get to Wednesday, you're, you're not even, you're like, yeah, just think he's coming back. I. I didn't even think they were going to announce it. They were just kind of out of sight, out of mind. And then to this morning, when the news breaks, everyone goes, whoa, what does that mean? And then you realize, like, yeah, he's going to want John Harbaugh. And Steven Ross has tried for a long, long time to get big name coaches to take his job for a long time, specifically Jim Harbaugh multiple times and has never been able to land him. And his advantage now is over all these other teams. He doesn't have a general manager because well, before he fired Mike, he fired his GM in the middle of the season. So he has a clean slate. It's the only organization that can offer that because the New York Giants, which feel much more like John Harbaugh, right, they feel much more presidential, buttoned up. I mean, they haven't been buttoned up on the field, but in terms of the weight, Judd Harbaugh has some like Tom Coughlin type vibes. But here's the problem. When they fired Brian Dabel, they didn't fire Joe Shane. And if anything, they've doubled down like, Joe Shane's our guy now. Part of it is the owner is has cancer and I think he's in the middle of treatment right now. So firing him maybe would make things a lot more complicated if you trust him to run the process. But at 63 years old, John Harbaugh has the opportunity. Now because of the leverage he possesses, he can say, no, I don't want to work for that guy. Hell, last year Liam Cohen told the Miami Dolphins, yeah, I'm not working for Trent Balky. Now here's where the Jags realize, okay, Trent, see ya. I don't think the Giants are going to do that, though. I think they should. If you could get John Harbaugh. And listen, I'm not wanting to like, just give all the power to the coach, but John Harbaugh wants to go tandem with another guy from the Ravens. And there is not another organization in the league that I trust more, their scouting department and the guys that have learned under Ozzy through Dasta, than that organization. And John's smart. He's at a front row seat for 18 years. How to run a personnel department. And he's not going to work for Joe Shane. So unless the Giants are going to fire Joe Shane, he's not going to be there. I googled John Harbaugh's resume because I was like, obviously he's been in Baltimore for 18 years and he was In Philadelphia before that. And I, we. I never crossed paths. He was gone before I got there. But he showed up in Philadelphia in 1998. So from 1998 till Tuesday, he has spent his entire professional life in Philadelphia and Baltimore. I forget. I mean, I've made the drive before, but it's not very far apart. And I'm pretty sure Baltimore is actually a little colder than Philadelphia. Both of them miserable, freezing winters. Not an enjoyable experience. I wonder if Miami, when you're 63 years old, when you've made a lot of money, think how many people over the last decade, 20 years, migrate from New York area, Philadelphia area, Washington area, down to Florida. Why? Has some advantages. One, winners are paradise. Two, you don't have to pay any taxes. Three, for him in Miami, kind of just a chill job, not that much pressure. When you take the Ravens job, it was win or go home. When you take the Eagles job, it's win or go home. We take Miami job. Go to the playoffs a couple times, everyone will be happy. Haven't won a playoff game since 2000. It's 2026. 2026. I was 14 years old the last time the Miami Dolphins won a playoff game. I'm 40 fucking one. So if you're John Harbaugh, not that much pressure. And I've been saying this theme over and over. A lot of these guys, you know, part of his brother, this thing that he's really chasing, he's trying to win the Super Bowl. Like, John doesn't really have that hanging over his head at all. Knocked that bad boy out a long time ago. Now, obviously he would like to win another one. But you can't really argue like just from a job standpoint. Night. Listen, I get it if you're him at 63 years old, when you're as rich as him, you're like, I'm not just going to go and create some relationship with Joe Shane when he's proven nothing. Like, I'm not in the. I don't want to do that. I don't have to do that. But they do have players on their roster. You look at Miami, they're going to have to cut a quarterback that is owed a ton of money. Last time I checked, their roster is not exactly loaded. The cupboards aren't exactly full pole. So it actually has some, I would say, parallels to what Sean Payton had to do in Denver. Now it did feel like Sean Payton again, also super bowl champ, had this big chip on his shoulder. And listen, maybe John Harbaugh will pissed off that he got fired and will just be driven that division. I mean, Josh Allen's not going anywhere. Mike Variable. Drake may. They're not going anywhere. The jets might be like a high school team, but the other two teams are pretty damn good. Last time I checked, they want to combine like 25 games. Drake may probably going to finish second in the MVP. Josh Allen is the reigning MVP. Kind of a problem when you don't have a quarterback. So it's. It's one of those jobs. Like it's not easy to figure that out. You can always go, we will try to figure it out. Yeah, great in theory, but it would be extremely challenging. And listen, maybe he wants a nice challenge while he gets some sweet house on the beach in South Florida. Wouldn't blame him at all. I hate the cold. I don't know how these guys do it. I mean, I get it. They're getting paid a lot of money and they get to coach sweet teams in the NFL. But for all you guys living in the cold, I mean, it's like 52 degrees in Scottsdale right now. It's so cold I can't feel my hands or my feet. I've never liked it, but I just think that it's pretty clear. And I know Jeff Darlington, who knows Miami pretty well. That organization was like, they didn't fire Mike McDaniel to just hire John Harbaugh. I mean, come on, guys, what are we talking about? They fired him to hire Robert Sala. 100%. And I also think this. You know Mike McDaniel, who knows? I mean, there are some organizations that I don't. It's pretty clear. Don't really know what they're doing. But he is going to be extremely coveted and there are a ton of. It's already been reported. Dan Campbell's called him. Obviously he knows Dan Quinn. Well, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need an offensive coordinator. There'll be teams lined up to hire Mike McDaniel, but he just signed an extension last year. Mike Mcdaniels, I'm just going to guess. 9, $10 million, 26, 27, 28. So he doesn't even need to worry about money. Like, in a weird way, he's on easy street. And that's. I've been mentioning this theme for a while. I talked to a lot of coaching buddies who are a little like position coaches. They say you'd be shocked how often guys like just do not give a shit if they're fight. How many human beings do you know that are making this much money? It's like, most of us are always on edge because, hey, if this goes sideways, we're in trouble. Well, if you know, you got 20 million, 30 million, 40 million. If shit hits the fan tomorrow, head hits the pillow every night. Pretty. You don't have that much anxiety. Stress levels are pretty low. So it's going to be fascinating how this all shakes out. Wouldn't shock me at all if the Miami and Harbaugh thing, if that's the way it plays out, is kind of sexier in title than it actually plays out to be. Because it's be a challenge to turn that. It'd be a massive challenge to turn that around. When John Harbaugh got hired for the Baltimore Ravens, Google some of the guys on the roster. One of them was at the game tonight. His name was Ray Lewis, one of the greatest players I've ever seen. Ed Reed, not bad. Terrell Suggs, like, they had dudes on that defense. They had to get a quarterback. Well, they drafted Joe Flacco right away because they had a high pick. There's no Joe Flacco in this draft. This quarterback draft sucks. Now, you could say maybe next year, maybe a couple years. Yeah, things change, but you never know. There's no guarantee. So I guess my. If I'm a betting man right now, I just kind of expect John Harbaugh to go to Miami because I don't expect him to work for Joe Shane. And if they're not going to fire Joe Shane, then he's not going to work there. He's not going to work at Arizona or Tennessee or Cleveland. So. And I could see one of those type places hiring Mike McDaniel, which I don't really think is a head coach. But I don't blame the guy if someone offers him a head coaching job for taking that coaching job. I guess we'll get out of here on this. It's fugazi Friday, and my fugazi was going to be the quarterback at Washington. His name, Desmond Williams, was signed a contract for $4 million to be the quarterback at Washington last year. But here's the thing. I've learned this. I guess I kind of knew this, but I've watched so many podcasts and read some articles. These aren't employment contracts. So if I sign a contract as a college football player for a million dollars, that's just them giving me a million dollars for, like, my image and likeness. Right? It's not an employment contract like most of us have with whoever we're in business with or work for. So that's where the gray area of, like, are any of these contracts binding? And Doug Hendrickson, who actually represents a lot of coaches and players, tweeted out today, and I know Doug a little bit that he dropped him. He just like, I. I'm out of business. He also represents Jed Fish. So when he did that, I'm like, God, this thing's going to get really ugly. And obviously, if you're Washington, you know, in the transfer portal, you can sign multiple wide receivers, multiple linemen. You're only signing one big quarterback, especially at these prices. So once you sign your guy, you stop looking at all the other guys. And if you're willing to pay millions of dollars for your guy, well, if you didn't have a guy, you would definitely be in the market for the top guys, because you're paying a premium. So they were completely fucked. I mean, and they knew it. It's why they immediately start leaking out. We are gonna go to war. We'll go to court. And the funniest part about this is that Lane Kiffin was involved. The kid was gonna go to Lane Kiffin, which is hilarious. And they were clearly gonna sue lsu. Sue the kid. They were gonna have to. You were gonna have a choice. And I was thinking about today. Do you know what's funny? Is, like, in the NFL, if something like this happened, it never would. Teams don't sue other teams because they're all business partners, right? They might hate each other on the field like the Ravens and the Steelers, but when the Rooneys and the Shotties, they all see each other at the owner's meetings, they're all friends. You know why? Because they're all getting rich together. That's not the way in college football. Because I was thinking, like, do you think lsu? Because my first thought was, like, oh, Lane's going to be a pain in the ass for LSU. You think LSU's administration, nil people, their management gives a crap about the University of Washington. You think they give two shits about Jed Fish? If Lane wants his quarterback and he's able to get this quarterback, let's sign him. We don't care what his situation is in Washington. And that's the problem. That's the whole fugazi with college football. You have these, the two most important conferences, the Big Ten in the sec, that they don't even care about screwing each other, let alone inside the conference. We've seen with ole Ms. And LSU, the business is all out of whack because no one's working together. And I, at first, I Kind of wanted to defend the kid because I was thinking If I was 19, 20, 21 years old, I would probably. And have people offering me this much money. I would think rules didn't apply either. Why would you? I mean I remember getting parking tickets like when I was in college in 20, 21, I would just throw them in the trash. Throw them in the trash. I wouldn't even care. You have to understand young men's minds. I saw a lot of like older big Js. Like I understand the chaos that is going on and this is a bad look and embarrassing and clearly the agent was, didn't love it. But like I, I think we underestimate like I. There's a lot of responsibility for 19, 20 year old guys to think they're like ramifications. Why would he think they're ramifications? They've never seen ramifications in their life. They've dominated football. This guy's offering me most money. This guy's offering me more money. See ya. They see it with coaches doing it all the time. Why wouldn't they? So obviously it looks like he's going back to Washington. He's like, my bad, I'm sorry, bad guys. And I also think in this day, and I don't think anyone's going to care, I really don't. It's one of those things was probably a big deal on social media. If he goes back, it'll all be forgotten in a couple weeks and Lane will deny it and everyone will just move on. So the one of the biggest. It was going to be an all time just story that feels like it went away. And other than that, I did watch F1 last night. It was fantastic. It was excellent. I don't talk about a fugazi. They say like age you look worse and get in your 60s. My wife looks at me, she's like, how does Brad Pitt still look so good? I'm like, damn, I don't know. He's a good looking dude. I'm like, maria, how old do you think he is? I was gonna guess like 55. Guy's 62 now. I get it, you get work done. But he, some guys get work done. Especially at that age. You can really tell, like can't really tell. He looks, I mean he looks like he's like 48. He looks fantastic. But excellent movie. It's kind of a throwback. Jerry Bruckenheimer who did a lot of the sweet movies in the 90s, especially Days of Thunder with Tom Cruise back in the day. It's kind of like a 2025 version of that with better graphics, just similar kind of better story a little bit, I guess still a little cheesy, but it was, it was an excellent watch. So I I've actually roofman F1 seen two good movies in the last week. I can go months without finding a good. I mean I subscribe to like 17 services. Just looking around, it's like there's nothing to watch. And whenever you find a good movie, you feel now this is a movie everyone's been talking about. But I would highly recommend it and God, I just, I will. I'd pay good money to look 20% as good as Brad Pitt on his worst day at 45, as he does at 62. So congrats to the University of Miami. Congrats to the Miami Dolphins that look like they're going to get John Harbots. It's just a good day to be in South Beach. What is going on everybody? John Midkopf three and out podcast. Make sure you subscribe subscribe to the channel. Most of you guys that are watching are not subscribed like the video. You guys can scream at each other down in the comments. Share with your friends. We appreciate you to we'll be live Friday night for the Oregon Indiana game. Saturday night we got Packers Bears. Sunday night we got Vrabel against Harbaugh, Herbert against May. Monday night Aaron Rodgers. I think next week I'll have more updates this weekend but starting Monday we will be on Netflix video wise so buckle up for that and very excited but I I will have more information in the reaction video to Oregon Indiana. We have a meeting on on Friday mid morning. So today right now we're gonna do a little mailbag at John Middlekopf. At John Middlekopf is the Instagram 2F's fire in my DMS. Questions answered right here in the show. Very very easy to do. Recording this before the Thursday night game Miami taking on Ole Miss. I I kind of like Miami a lot. Still have you know, from that parlay last week. I haven't cashed out yet. My wife's like take that out. I'm like oh you know my devil on Miami tonight. And before we dive into the question, so many of you guys have fired me. The video Instagram reel of the video of the conspiracy that's going around about the 49ers that they practice next to this power plant which the power of that plant, the whatever it emits is bad for like muscles and tissues and directly correlated with all the 49ers injuries. This like, guy went as close as he get, used some contraption to get the power of it. It's way above the legal limit. It went viral on Instagram, it went viral on, on Twitter. Slash X. Clearly it's out there. And people have been kind of alluding to this for a while. I'm no scientist. Got a couple degrees, they're pretty meaningless. Never used them a day in my life. All I can say is from experience, I've been going to practices there since Jim Harbaugh, Vic Fangio, Bowman, Willis, Frank Gore now, so. And they've been practicing there, I'm pretty sure, well before I ever got involved in this business, I think since like the late Walsh days. So they have been situated down in this area, their practice facility for decades now. They move the stadium from Candlestick, which is very, very close to San Francisco. Technically it's in San Francisco, but like up toward, you know, north of the airport. And obviously their practice facility now is just right next to Levi Stadium. This video goes viral. I. My only take would be clearly in the last 10 years and definitely of the Kyle Shanahan run, which started in 2017, where they've led the league in injuries. You would imagine the power, the focus we have in society of everything we use has never been higher coming from this place. But I can't pretend to know if that's the reason. You'd be crazy to go, is this something? The 49ers have to look into this and if they already haven't, they just don't have a choice. They got to look into this now. What were they like? Where are they going to go? Are they going to move their practice facility because of this? I think if you could prove that this is the reason or a factor, I don't think you'd have a choice. You couldn't continue to practice there now. And the other thing is, the 49ers practice facilities are not like state of the art. Right? They're very old. I think they've redone them, like updated them, kind of like a remodel. But this is not some brand. This isn't the jets, this isn't the radio. This is a brand new facility. Yeah, that's my thoughts there. Love stories like that though. Okay, let's just dive in. Mailbag question. Not a Giants fan, but I'm super impressed. After looking at dart stats. 15 passing touchdowns, nine rushing, only to five interceptions and a couple fumbles, all without neighbors, a functioning head coach and a run game. I know he's injury prone. But what's been your take on him? He rhymes. He reminds me a lot of Baker Mayfield in Cleveland with the fire and passion he plays with but a lot more athleticism and less turnovers. Interesting to hear your thoughts. I'll be honest, the last couple weeks the Giants were unwatchable. It's I don't even think you can take anything away from it, good or bad. Over the course of the last three or four weeks in his before he got the concussion that knocked him out for a couple weeks which kind of ended Day Ball's career, I think you saw everything you wanted to see from a physical trait standpoint. I think one key with Jackson dart is his skill set. He's a dual threat quarterback. Not like in the sense of Lamar Jackson, but let's view now Caleb is much more physically gifted but he should be playing like that. Get him on the move, roll him out, use his legs to continue drives. I think the next coach like you, you he is not just going to sit in the pocket and dice you up, right? That's not really not saying that he can't but to me part of what Ben Johnson didn't and listen he had to kind of adapt sometimes you just got to let Caleb cook Now Caleb has proven to be pretty durable. The dark thing now part of it one of the concussions came they're running like quarterback power, like he's Cam Newton. I think there's a fine line but he is a dual threat player and his athleticism is going to be a huge part of his game. So we'll see. Obviously there are a lot of rumors with coaching potential hires. Looks like John Harbaugh probably more likely to go to Miami because they're not going to get rid of the GM Stefanski. I do think one thing if Stefanski were to get the job and implement kind of his version of the Shanahan type offense is that utilizes the athleticism of the quarterback on boots, on nakeds, gets them on the run. Obviously the running game is going to be huge. Hopefully Scatter Boo can come back and be fully healthy but they, they do have a bunch of pieces there. I think he's pretty interesting prospect that that's for sure. Now I, I, I wouldn't put much stock into the stats. Their games have just been meaningless for a long, long time and like you said the coaching turnover, it was hard to even watch him and there'd be games where he looked bad and I didn't really hold that against him. So I think I saw Enough early on in the season when they had some structure, they went, there's a lot to work with there. There's a lot to work with there. He's going to be the, the implement the implementation of whatever scheme they do for him. If you get the wrong scheme, you can make players look really, really bad. Look at Darnold. Like, they let him move kind of like that. Like, let him use his. Like, look how good Darnold is. O' Connell with Seattle, like, get him on the move, but I don't want him running like he's not Lamar and he's not. Not as smart of a runner as Caleb. Which coach you think is a good fit for the Raiders? Harbaugh, Stefanski or even Tomlin? Congrats on becoming a father. Not quite a father yet, but I appreciate that. Technically, I guess, are you considered one when they're still inside the belly. He's getting big. You can, you can feel his head. It's kind of. It's kind of trippy. I would say. The thing with the Raiders now that they can move on from the Pete Carroll disaster, I mean, pretty embarrassing kind of ending to his career. For Pete, who's a legend. I mean, I love Pete Carroll, but that was, that was rough. Is part of the, the regret, I'm sure of that higher is like, you got to break this thing down to the studs. And Spy tech had this 30,000 foot view of this big picture macro version of his team. And he gets Pete, he's like, I win 10 games a year, I'm going to win right now. It's like, no, Pete, you're not going to win right now with this team. So to me, you get a coach, one. Leadership is really key. Leadership. Like, to me it's less about scheme with the Raiders and get a guy who can lead. The problem with Pete is peak and lead people like Pete. But he can't. Like, he's not into the rebuild. How could he be 75 years old? And clearly he's obsessed with having his kids on the staff, which some of these articles come out are just pretty embarrassing for, for the family. There's no way around it. And I don't even put it. I put a little on Pete. But also like once you get in your 40s, like, come on, man. It's just, it's an embarrassing situation for the family name, I think. Like, to me, if I'm Spy Tech, I'm interviewing some of these guys that have gotten a shot before because I want a guy that has been there and done that. But like Robert Sala to me would make a lot of sense. He's a great leader. People like him, he's going to get a quarterback because they have the number one overall pick. And then you got some offensive guys like Matt Nagy, Arthur Smith, who again failed, quote unquote, Nagy went to the playoffs twice. Arthur Smith went 7 and 9 every year. But like those guys have sat in the chair. I think it is a tough job to just throw in a first time coaching. Just with all the, I would say the, the dysfunction that that comes along with that franchise. Now once you start winning, you can get rid of it. But I think there's a huge benefit. Like John Harbaugh is not coming there. I would be very shocked unless there's some connection. Like if Mike Tomlin was available, he would come there either. But I do think some of those guys who have been head coaches before, I think a guy like Robert Sala would make a lot of sense. I really do. And other guys that are, I mean, that's why they want Brian Flores. Right? He's a tough old school leader of Met. Now my issue with that is I would say I feel better. Like Brian Flores is probably a. I would put him above Salah when it comes to X's and O's. You could argue floors as good as it gets in the NFL on defense. But I'm sorry, it's hard for me to forget the situation with the offensive coaches. And I know people in the league that were telling me stories about the way that he dealt and treated the offensive coaches. I'm not even counting the two of them, which is public hard for me to get around that quarterback's the baby. I mean, I don't mean like the treat them like a baby. I mean like they're the most important part of the franchise. Without them, you're. You're done. You have no shot. So like it's hard for me to get past that point of looking back of like that whole situation. And the other thing is the Patriot guys, they just struggle to deal with people. There's no way around it. I mean, let's face it, they have all gotten a ton of jobs, a lot of them, multiple jobs. And it's been a disaster because they just struggle with managing up, managing down. They like try to copy Bill now. Maybe he's changed working for O', Connell, but I thought Josh McDaniels had changed. Turns out he didn't. They couldn't run him out of town fast enough. Congrats on the upcoming baby. I appreciate that. We have a girl coming in mid to late April, so trying to get ready. Buckle up, baby. With. What's funny is my, my wife was just talking to her brother's wife and Emily, who has a little daughter who's probably close to six months right now. It's just crazy how big they get. And even Maria was like, you know what's crazy is I've been so focused on like that first month or two I haven't even thought about. Once they get to the age of, they start crawling and moving around. I can't even wrap my head around that. Like, yeah, they're going to grow fast out of all the clothes we own. With Mike McDaniel getting the ax, do you think he should look for another head coaching gig or step back into the offensive coordinator role at a place like Detroit or possibly Philly, depending on how their run goes? I was just reading an article about Mike and he got an extension in 2024 and that extension kicks in next year. He's under contract in 26, in 27 and 28. Well, let's just say when the Dolphins hired him, they gave him five or six million dollars a year. If you're getting a contract extension, I would guess that number's nine or $10 million. He is owed a ton of money. And I was talking to a younger assistant coach in the NFL and he's like, do you know what's crazy about a lot of these guys? They're not afraid to get fired anymore. They don't really care. The money is so massive. How many human beings do you know? I'm not saying like no through the Internet. I'm saying no personally that have just made 40 or $50 million, especially a lot of them before they're like 50. That's, you know, every once in a while you might know a guy that built a business and sold it, but unless you know a pro athlete or something, you probably don't know many. And that amount of money is, changes the way you think. If I had $50 million in the bank, I would still be podcasting. But it's like, yeah, maybe this Thursday night game I'm not going to do. It's. I don't care who you are. It's human nature. And he was like, he was telling me some stories about some like high paid assistants that just don't give a shit. Mail it don't, don't even take time to deal with other people. If they don't like a player, it doesn't matter. Money has, I've said it forever. This league is Wall street on grass and the if you get to the top you become a GM. Hell assistant GMs now make a million bucks if you become a high pay coordinator and definitely a head coach. The money's generational. I think sometimes the media doesn't have a great idea what generational wealth is. They're always like with the NBA, like can he get his max contract and get generational wealth? Like guys he just signed a 4 year 40 million dollar contract as a rookie. I don't know where you guys come from but that's, that's generational wealth. Like that's where it started. So you start making the type money. I think it also gives you options. So if you're Mike, why would you want one of these crappy head coaching jobs? And the answer is, well, money. Well he doesn't need it because they would it offsets. So it's not like he's getting a raise. He would get the same amount just who pays him. So to me like can you resurrect your career now? I don't know. I don't know him personally. I don't know what his ambitions are. Like he's dead set. Like I'm going to be a superstar head coach. But there are some awesome offensive coordinator jobs. Obviously Detroit, I mean they got some serious weapon power. Look at Tampa just fired their offensive coordinator. Mike Evans, Godwin, the Bucky Irving, you know to resurrect Baker, you get a lot of credit. So I think Salah is a pretty good, pretty good example of a guy that was, I don't want to say laughed at because the jet situation but like he wasn't going to become a head coach immediately goes to the Niners. His stock comes soaring back. So I my guess would be if you're going to take the Browns job then that's on you. But and I get he's worked there before with Kyle way back in the day. I would personally Dan Quinn do they Dan. Dan Quinn needs an offensive coordinator. Atlanta doesn't. I mean they're going to be a lot of options for the guy. He would be a very, very in demand play caller. That's for sure. He'd be pretty nasty with Bijan Robinson. What are the odds Garrett gets a head coaching gig? I hope he gets fired so that he won't have to. So we want to listen to him on Sunday Night Football. I would be stunned. I really would. I would be stunned. I would not expect him to become the head coach of the Titans, which I think he interviewed with, but hell you never know. Big fan of the pod and congrats in advance on the birth of the baby. Have a bone to pick with your good friend Stuckey on Caleb Williams the other day when you were stumped by another viewer's question. Admittingly I'm a biased Bears fan, but isn't it time to stop looking at all these advanced quarterbacks metrics and evaluate the quarterbacks with our eyes? With the PFF stats Stuckey was throwing out there for CW18, you would think this guy is playing like Jamarcus Russell, but when you watch the games that is very obviously not the case. I think using advanced analytics can get tricky when looking at a single season stats due to the extremely small sample size compared to a sport like baseball that heavily uses advanced analytics over a larger sample size. Whatever happened to the good old eye test? The one thing that Caleb brings to the table that is undeniable is the big plays. So let's say he has four shitty plays or three shitty plays, an average play and again I don't even know what metrics you're referring to necessarily. And then hits a 40 yard bomb of a guy in stride like there is this is the thing with the numbers and the numbers people in general is this is the thing with baseball. They don't believe that momentum and pressure matters. That an at bat in a playoff game in the eighth inning at Yankee Stadium is no different than a bat in June against the Twins. Like are you high on drugs? Like telling me hitting a golf shot by yourself on a Thursday afternoon, screwing around and then playing in the US Open is the same as a pro golfer. Of course it's not. So his big playability to me makes up for a lot, missing a lot of the layups. Josh Allen did that for a long time, Lamar Jackson early on in the career. So I think his big playability this year masked a pretty inaccurate stretch of football. I mean he's not the most accurate guy, but I can live with inaccuracy if you're making big plays. I can live with interceptions if you throw a lot of touchdowns. I know Shuck replaced him and he looks to be the Saints long term quarterback, but do you think Rattler could succeed elsewhere? Maybe in a Vikings offense with Oconnell? I don't think he's worse than J.J. mcCarthy. He's impressed me in his time playing and I think he could succeed with other systems in the right place. I would imagine they keep them like I don't see why you wouldn't want them. You know shuck 25 or 26 year old rookie. But like Spencer Rattler for a guy anyone that watched that Netflix special a long time ago when he was in high school my first take was what in my buddy Drew that hired me at Fresno State has been at Oklahoma for a decade. They recruited him and they signed him and he loved him as the player coming out of high school. But the and sometimes hard to judge a 17 year old as you get older. But I've watched some of his interviews. He seems like a pretty high level cat. If I was a Saints I would keep him around. Well what's my rush to get rid of them so I would keep them both. This is from Josh or Joseph. Congrats on the baby. My wife and I are expecting our first on the 19th so please share. Any parenting hacks? Trust me, I have none. Question for the back As a Bears fan, I find it crazy the packers could let LaFleur go as a head coach. I'm praying it happens, but what candidate would you want over him? Also, is it crazy to say the Bears win two home games and then Darnold gets turnover happy versus the best turnover team to make the Super Bowl? This game's big. I if you win this game, to me you get to free up a little bit and play with house money. There's a ton of pressure on this game. You're 2 and 4 in the division. You easily could have lost to these guys a couple weeks ago, but the end of the game was crazy that all the pressure's on you. You win this thing and beat them two out of three times in the last month. I think you have a ton of confidence moving forward and let's assume Philly beats the Niners. Like you have a lot of confidence against them now going on the road to Seattle. Little different, different animal I would say, especially against their defense. But hell, if you shred Philly's defense in two weeks and the packers defense still solid, yeah, I would say that you would have definitely have a shot to win that game if you were playing Sam Darrell. Definitely have a shot. It is really difficult and this is why I think a lot of people are going to take the Packers. Your defense isn't good. No pass rush can't cover anybody. It's hard to win playoff games with that. It just is. So part of the reason, like I'm not that high on the Bears going into the playoffs because I have a I have a philosophical belief that will never Change, no defense, no success in big games come January or college football playoffs. You got to the reason Ole Miss beat Georgia, you know, in the last round was because their defense came through. They had a ton of TFLs. I think they 3 or 4x Georgia on tackles for loss. You got to make plays, the line of scrimmage with your defensive line and obviously your DBs. Now your DBs. You guys create a lot of picks, but you also. I'm watching the game last week against the Lions. It's like Jameson Williams and St. Brown look like Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin. That's. That's just going to be a problem. I mean, I'm so excited for that game. I'm probably as excited for that game. That's the. I think that's the most intriguing game. When you factor in the home field, when you factor in at night, when you factor in the history. That's sweet. I'm fired up for Bears backers. First off, wishing and praying everything goes well with your baby next week. I appreciate that. Question for the pot, who do you think should be the Lions next? OC I just saw Mike McDonald. Mike McDaniel got fired and the Dolphins, I think he should pursue heavy. Do you agree? It's funny, when they fired Johnny Morton, it's like, well, they fired him three months ago when Dan Campbell took the play calling and what happened. And I think I saw this happen with Steve Wilkes, with the 49ers. The players turned on him. The players go to their head coach and just say, this is not working. And it was clear that the players did not think Johnny Morton was good. And the problem for Johnny Morton is he was replacing a guy who was elite. So they know what it looks like. Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, they were used to being around Robert Sala and d' Amico Ryan and Steve Wilkes came in and they just, nope, this ain't working. And you know it right away. And players, this isn't a dictatorship like the 90s and the 80s in football. These players have a lot of juice. And once you got elite players making big money, they start going to the head coach like this guy doesn't. Because I remember it was communication. So to me, if you're Dan Campbell, you're going to have people interested in this job, right? And I think if Mike is willing to be the offensive coordinator, you should be right near the top of the list. So I now would Dan want to work with that guy? I mean, the last two guys he's hired, Ben Johnson, he had known from Miami and Johnny Morton had worked with them, I think, at a couple different places. So will he go outside of his fear, which is hard for coaches to do. Most of them don't. Right. I mean, I just use Kyle Shanahan. Kyle Shanahan, like Robert Sala. D', Amico. Ryan's. He known him from Houston brings Robert Sala back. I mean, he kind of sticks with his crew. He's got Kubiak Now Sean McVay, who's his defensive coordinator. Shula, who's his good buddy from college. Look at Andy Reid, like Spags, who he's known for 25 years. I think these guys like comfort. I do wonder if how bad that season went and Dan was forced essentially by his own players to become the play caller. If he goes, I don't have a choice. I gotta hire the best guy available. Now, who that guy is, I don't know. And this is. Here's another question. I think Mike should be interested in Tampa, because lifelong Bucks fan, they just fired the oc. Does the media still realize how insane it is that. That Baker will now have his 10th OC in 10 in 8 years? I remember this convo when he was in Cleveland, but it's gotten way worse. 18. Haley fired. Then Freddy Kitchens. 19 Munkin, 20. 21, Stefanski, Van Pelt. 22, McAdoo, 22. McVeigh Cohen because he got cut. 23, Canales, Liam Cohen, Grizzard. Now who? Pretty wild. That's. That's pretty nuts. Now, part of the reason, you know, Canales and Liam cone, like, you get credit. I always said this about Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson. If you became their offensive coordinator, you got fired. They all got fired in Seattle. Hall of Fame quarterbacks, their guys get jobs. Baker Mayfield got guys back to back head coaching jobs. Look how many guys got jobs off Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees or Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. They should be the ultimate catapult to being the boss and making money. And there are certain places you got to be careful. Now, Baker has kind of been. I mean, part of the reason is when you're playing well, people come to the good teams. Patrick Mahomes, right? Josh Allen. So I think Baltimore Ravens on defense, how many of their defensive coordinators over the last 25 years have been head coaches? 10. I mean. I mean, seriously. I mean, going back to Brian Billick through John Harbaugh, their defensive guys have become stars. So it's going to be an intriguing job because he's proven he can play well. I think the question you would have to ask you'd call Jason Light if you're interested in the job is like what's it was he injured last year Was just the play calling what's going on here so another thing is you get to run the offense. It's not like Todd Bowles a defensive guy. I I I think he's I think that's a really good offensive coordinator job divisions it's not like the Panthers are that good. The Saints still got a long way to go personnel wise Falcons don't even have a coach with the coaching hires in site The I can't even read with a coaching hiring cycle in full swing. My question is about coordinators getting poached. Are they not bound by contract? I assume they don't need to be free agents like a player would the NFL is not college. You can't just steal a coordinator. So like if if I wanted part of the reason Brian Flores is so talked about right now his contract is up but last year you couldn't take Brian Flores away from the Vikings even if you were going to double his salary. Happens in college all the time. Penn State took deann Lynn, Anthony Lynn's son who USC had stolen from ucla. These guys bounce around constantly. Right? That's not what happens in the NFL. If a guy is under contract I'm trying to think of a top offensive coordinator. I don't even know who that would be. Let's use defensive coordinators easier. Like I couldn't steal Robert Sala or Jesse Minter to be my if I was the Cowboys and wanted to give Robert SALLER, Jesse Minter $8 million to be my defensive court. I can't do it if they're under contract. So you can't poach. This is not the transfer portal. Okay, we'll end on this. Bill's fan Darius Slay said he'd only play for the Eagles, yet Brandon Bean picked him up and cut corner Jamarcus Ingram. Ingram was claimed by the Texans and Slay hasn't played a game. Last week McDermott led first round pick and second best corner Max Harrison in the game while 30 against the Jets. Harrison got hurt with nine minutes left in the fourth and will miss most of the playoffs. The Bills now have a secondary issue thanks to their coach. NGM you've spoken on Bean but what makes you think McDermott is a good coach? This is the same guy who ran a fake punt in the playoffs against the Chiefs with demar Hamlin who technically died months earlier. He's not a motivator and his defense sucks in the playoffs. Average coaches can make the playoffs with Josh Allen, but good ones win Super Bowls. That's a hypothetical that we don't know the answer to. I think, you know, he's a Super bowl level quarterback, but you got to do it to be a Super bowl winner. You got to win it. So if we lose before the championship game, both the GM and coach should be canned. Agreed. I gotta see how it looks. I. You're acting like Sean McDermott's, like Freddy Kitchens. I, I think he's been pretty damn good, you know, I. What's his record this year? He's 98 and 50 in his career. He's 7 and 7 in the playoffs. I think five of those losses are the Chiefs. I mean, let's just. I know Josh Allen plays a huge part in it, but in this decade, he's 13 and 3. 11 and 6. 13 and 3. 11 and 6 dot 13 and 4, 12 and 5. Now the, the Sleigh personnel move is an embarrassment. You can't cut a guy who is then going to be claimed by a playoff team to take a guy that's not going to play. You got to have that information. And that to me, whoever someone's responsible for that, someone pounded the table. Darius lays an upgrade. He'll help us out. That's embarrassing. I don't know who that's on. I think McDermott gets somewhat of a bad rap. I think he's been pretty good. Now there's. This Jags game would be one of his biggest playoff wins. I know he's technically favored, but they're playing as well as anyone in football. He's on the road. Most people like you think the team's not that good. I'm with you. If you're going to fire McDermott, the GM has to go because there's no way you could say the GM has been better than the coach. This is one of those situations, but it doesn't happen that often. Why? Because these owners get close to the gms. Like how does Dable get fired and Joe Shane survives. Right. And. And who knows? That could end up costing them John Harbaugh. Because he wants his own gm and they're not going to fire Joe Shane. Now, part of that, right? The owner's sick, so it makes situation a little more complicated. But yeah, I mean, I. Listen, I, I'm biased. I've. I've known Sean since I worked for Philly. He's always been cool to me. When I see him at the combine, he's come on this podcast before I think like 2022, he just came over and came on. I, he's always been, I like him personally but it's results oriented business. The pressure gets amplified when you have, you know, let's face it, John Harbaugh got fired because he couldn't win a Super bowl or get to the super bowl with LaMar Jackson, Sean McDermott. If he gets fired it will be because he couldn't get to the super bowl with Josh Allen. So with a great player it almost becomes like an NBA situation. Like if I give you Jokic, if I give you Luca, the pressure on you gets turned up tenfold. That's what I said the other day about the Ravens. It's an incredible job organization, the structure, how well they just operate the owner. It's also a pressure pack job. Part of the reason John kept it for so long is went to the playoffs a lot. You know, I mean was, was just the one seed a couple years ago. You can't just like oh a couple nine and eight years. Like that shit is not going to fly. You will get fired. I think with the Bills, yeah, I guess I could see them firing them if they're one and done. But my, my question to you would be who would they hire? Would John Harbaugh just take that job? Maybe he would. Mike Tomlin. Would they want a guy like that? Now I would say like he's been beating those guys. Literally he's been beating those guys you're going to fire just because they've won a Super Bowl a long time ago. That's the thing with Sean. Sean played John Harbaugh last year in the playoffs, second round. I don't think anyone would argue Baltimore had the better team. Sean won. Didn't he play Mike Tomlin a couple years ago in the playoffs. Curb stomped him. So it's like those are the type guys because you're not going to just be like let's hire Clint Kubiak. You know I, you, you cannot risk that. So you would need if you're going to this thing with same I would say the same thing with Lamar and the Ravens. The risk they took with John Harbaugh a long time I don't think they can make right now. They need a guy that unless mentor who's been in their building they know but I think it'd be difficult to hire a first time coordinator. Excuse me, a first time head coach coming from a coordinator to pretty risky. So I, I, I think Sean's proven to be pretty good. Pretty good now Relative to his scheme and his personnel. To me, the GM has not done a great job. Now, he's actively involved in that, clearly. But I, I, I just don't necessarily agree with the way they've built their team. They look, I was talking to a scouting buddy who's advanced them. He's like, they're just kind of small. They, they look small on tv, but they have the trump card in Josh, who bails them out a lot. I mean, the Keon Coleman thing, how many times he been inactive? I wasn't really paying attention. Cause that game was a joke. I, I didn't realize Harrison was in the game at the end and got injured. But I, I also think it's football, those things. I hear what you're saying. I think we can nitpick that stuff a little, and I'm guilty, too. But I think we act like sometimes Sean McDermott is like, everyone's given Kevin Stefanski getting on their knees and be like, oh, my God, Kevin Stefanski. It's like, Kevin Stefanski would sell his left leg to have the resume of Sean McDermott, I mean, would give anything. Kevin Stefanski this year led, I think, statistically one of the top 10 worst offenses of, like, the last 30 years. I think I heard someone say it looked even worse. So, I mean, I don't know. I mean, Bills have won a lot of games. They have. At the end of the day, that's your job. Your job is not to draft, is not free agency. It's not the higher coach. It's just to win and lose. And when you win, all that stuff, like, it's harder to nitpick when you lose, will attack the hell out of your draft strategy or free agency strategy, who you're hiring. If you're winning 12, 13 games a year and find yourself in the championship game a lot. Like, what am I gonna say? You suck? I can't. Because you don't. Adios. The volume. This is an iHeart podcast.
