Dan 'Stuckey' Hanzus (2:19)
What is going on, everybody? How are we doing? Hopefully everyone is doing outstanding out there in the real world, living life like Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins, who just got bludgeoned on Thursday Night Football, 28 to 6 at home by the Baltimore Ravens, who look like they're kind of on fire. Win a couple games in four days, get Lamar back and dominate, throws a bunch of touchdowns. That was a. That was a bloodbath. Now the question is, is Mike lose his job. And if the Pittsburgh Steelers win, are the Ravens really going to win this division? Rough night for Al Michaels. And we'll hit on a couple other things. It's Fugazi Friday, so I got a couple of Fugazi's. One involves candy and the other involves a goat. And we'll also do Stuckey. He will be joining us as he does every Friday, talk about the NFL, talk about the league from a gambling perspective. All of our bets presented by Hard Rock and. And yeah, so we'll go over that. We'll do a little college at the end, but. But a lot of NFL. Other than that, you guys know the drill. Subscribe to the podcast wherever you may listen. Also, if you're on YouTube, which I know everyone is because I see the amount of people that watch YouTube, make sure you subscribe three and out. Type in my name. Subscribe. You'll never miss anything. We go live after all the primetime games. Do content all throughout the week. I got a migraine, an awful one. The other I don't get. I get a couple a year and it was like I was in shambles. So I didn't do a podcast for record on Wednesday for Thursday. So I recorded the Mailbag today and we'll put one out this weekend. So probably put that out Saturday morning, get a little weekend mail back. So I tried to answer some of you guys questions, but first, you know, I got to tell you about my friends, my partners, game time. Here's the thing. Do you guys want to go to a game? Do you guys want to go to a football game? Do you want to go to a college game? Do you want to go to a pro game? Do you want to go watch your team? Well, there is not an app that makes it easier. You can find tickets for as low as $100. When you see the prices on the app, that is the actual price. There's no adding the fees later. That is the actual price you will pay for the tickets. They got flash deals. You can search by the venue, you can search by the team, obviously. Concerts, comedy shows, you name it. It does not get any easier to go watch a football game. So take the guesswork out of buying professional football tickets with game time. Download the GameTime app, create an account and use the code JOHN for $20 off your first purchase terms apply. Again, create an account, redeem the code John. That's Johen for $20 off. Swipe, tap, ticket. Go download the Gametime app today. Okay, let's start with this game because I actually don't think there's much to take away from this game at all in terms of like on the field to place. Lamar looked really good, dominated in the red zone. The Ravens definitely feel like they have life. And the Miami Dolphins took that short lived ass kicking that they gave and handed out to the Atlanta Falcons. Feel like it was more than four days ago because I was like, did that just happen? It's like, yeah, they were just up 31 to 3 literally on Sunday afternoon. It's on Thursday. But it does feel like they resorted right back, played a real team, playing the Ravens, who obviously are playing for something and just got shellacked. So to me the simple question is, is it time? Should Mike McDaniel lose his job? And listen, I would never feel comfortable saying a guy should or shouldn't, you know, have a job. This is how people pay for their families. Feel less bad inside when you're talking about a guy making 6, 7, 8 million dollars who's clearly over his head. This team is falling apart. And listen, it's not all his fault, but I think if you're Steven Ross, now's the time to blow this thing up. Obviously there has been speculation about does the GM have, you know, some dirty laundry on the guy and makes it difficult to not, you know, relieve him of his duties. But there's no way you could hire another coach with that guy at gm. So if you're going to fire him, you got to fire them both. And remember, it kind of happened with Robert Sala and then Joe Douglas last year. If I remember correctly, it was off a couple weeks. To me, now's the time to do it both. And the Miami Dolphins. I think the big picture question mark is can this franchise be saved? And I think there is one consistent theme to this team and I think it's kind of like the jets, you know, the jets and the Dolphins right now are complete embarrassment. Things constantly change, coaches, players, but one thing doesn't the ownership. And they showed. Stephen Ross tonight looked like talking to a son or something. This franchise is just a joke. I mean, it really is. And the one thing that they are like the Atlanta Falcons, like the New Orleans Saints, they're in this southern world where college reigns supreme and most of the best programs beside Ohio State are located in that region. And I've always wondered, theorize a little bit, is it hard to sustain when people care more about college football down there? And I was thinking watching this tonight, is there a worse atmosphere in the entire league than where Miami Dolphin their home stadium Right. I mean think about their division. Like when the Patriots are rolling, that place is rocking. Obviously the Bills are elite. Even if the jets were ever good, the New York fans, like, I just don't think anyone cares. And maybe it's just because they've been bad for a long time. I guess they made the playoffs a couple years ago, but down the stretch they were not very fun to watch. Neither one of those seasons, they peaked early. And there's just something about this franchise that seems off to me. So even if I answer my own question, so they fire if I say, yeah, fire everybody in the building. Who's taking this job? Who are you getting? Because to me, if you hire the next up and coming coordinator, nothing's going to change. I mean that's what's been happening. Mike McDaniel, Adam Gase, this is a job. The only chance you have for success and football survival would be to kind of get a crazy ass veteran coach. You're going to need to come in here and kind of drop the hammer because whatever has been happening down there not only is not working, it's an unwatchable product most weeks. Obviously the investment into TUA is a debacle. I mean he's not like some all time scrub. He's obviously a starting quarterback in the NFL, but you can't win with that. And then the way they built the team, going back with a bunch of little players and you watch them against the Ravens that look like I want to say varsity, you say jv, I would say varsity versus like the peewee team, the junior high team. So I think this is the type situation of like you're going to need ideally last year, Mike Vrabel, that's the type guy you need a no nonsense, no bullshit hard discipline guy because you keep going with these offensive, innovative, up and coming coordinators, you got no shot. And obviously you need a GM and people with a vision to build a team down in the south beach because it's clearly hard. You have things going up against you, right? I mean from the weather to the women to the, to do. The, the Bills have a huge, the packers, they have massive advantages over you. They can pay the same amount of money, but they don't have to worry about their guys Monday through Friday, a lot less for them to do and screw up around. And clearly there is a focus issue. I mean this is a situation. I have been saying this about Thursday night games. I don't really judge you on the outcome. If you would have told me the Ravens won this game like 17 to 13. I'd be like, hey, short week on the road, congratulations, you move on. There's one, there's no style points in the NFL, but there are definitely, I mean it's October 30th, we're in week eight, nine. Like once you get midway through the season and on a Thursday night road game is just a win and get out of there. It's like, it's like college basketball survive in advance. Yet the Ravens came in short week. Now granted the quarterback had some fresh legs, hadn't played, came in and looked like this is, this was game one. So I listen the Dolphins, I was thinking like could they go college? It's like well even Lane Kiffin and Sark and Ryan like those guys are offensive guys. Like to me this franchise probably needs a defensive guy. I think the last time they had any success in the playoffs, wasn't it Dave wanted defensive guy. You know, Bill Parcels was there for a minute, Tony Soprano, I know he was an offensive line coach, but the old school mentality, I, I, I just don't think this innovative soft upand coming young guy, they have no chance, I mean none. So when you blow this thing up. Listen, I, I've already seen some of these rumors like Rex Ryan for example. And I'm not, I just use that name because it comes up. But some of these, you know, if Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers like to me he would be a guy something like that. But I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole an offensive guy. And to a first time head coach because whoever they hire, he could be the sexiest name the next Kevin o'. Connell. The next like you put Ben Johnson Miami, I'd be out like he's got no shot, zero, none, zilch. So I just think the Dolphins are you know a franchise for older people that used to be kind of just a legendary, you know, brand right? In the 70s they were big time. Obviously with Dan Marino they just mattered in the league and they just feel like they don't matter and they have no identity and their coach is completely over his head and this thing is just falling apart at the seams and the GM drafted sign just terrible players and even the good ones are like flawed players. And I just think you're, you're seeing this thing fall apart and it felt like the Ravens might have ended his tenure. So if, if Friday morning or this weekend would not shock me at all. And speaking of the Ravens, I think the last four days they've, they've kind of Said the Steelers. Because, listen, I was kind of out on them because I'm like, Pittsburgh's going to get to like 11 wins. And now I'm starting doing the math. Like, maybe they're not. Maybe the Steelers are not winning. Maybe Vegas, when they kept the Ravens as the favorite, knew what they were doing. Because I'm kind of on board. Because right now, if the Steelers played the Ravens ten times, I'm taking the Ravens eight and a half of those. Like, I mean, what you saw out of the Ravens tonight, an elite quarterback. And I get it, it's Miami, the team's not that good. But still short week. Derek Henry, look lively defensively. Kyle Hamilton, Kyle Van Noy flying around making plays. So, like, this is a team now that I thought tonight officially put the Pittsburgh Steelers on notice. And if you tell me the Pittsburgh Steelers lose this weekend against the Colts and have lost two weeks in a row to good teams, like, I'm out on them. I am simply out on them. This is a must win spot for Pittsburgh come Sunday, mainly because of this, because the team we've seen the last couple weeks, one with the backup quarterback four days ago, and then the Lamar version tonight, like, that's more the real Ravens team. And I just thought, like, hey, we've seen how bad these guys are playing. Listen, John Harbaugh is a $15 million coach for a reason. He's done this before. They've been flipped a switch. They've made personnel changes in the middle of the. In the year, tweaks that have worked year after year. And it feels like they've done that right now. And the way the Ravens team I'm watching looks like they're getting nine or 10 wins and looks like they could go on one of those runs. Damn. They just won, you know, eight of nine games. And we know the Steelers can't, but they definitely can if they lose this week. Because to me, if they do, like, this Ravens thing is real, and all of a sudden they went from one in five, they're three and five and they got momentum going this way. And you had the Steelers, who started whatever 4 and 1 and 5 and 2 or whatever the fuck their record is and they're there for. They were 4 and 1. Now they're 4 and 2. They could be 4 and 3. I think I'm screwing this up. Let me look this up. Kind of all amped up here. Standings. We got the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are 4 and 3. So if they lose this weekend, they're 4 and 4. And if the Cincinnati Bengals were to win, they'd also have four wins. So all of a sudden you'd be like, we had this great start, we had this huge lead, and now we look behind us and. And there are the Ravens with one less win, and there are the Cincinnati Bengals with the same amount of wins who obviously beat us a couple of weeks ago. So I think if you're a Ravens fan, you can take a deep breath. These last four days saved your season, and your season was only savable as long as the Steelers didn't win. And it turns out they did not win against the packers, they did not win against the Bengals. So they were 4 and 1. And now they got a chance to lose three straight games and all of a sudden be 4 and 4 and you're right behind them. And this is one of those races where it's like they had you lapped and now you're seeing their tail lights and now you're coming on them and you still play them a couple times. So I would like my chances. The other thing is, like, I just trust the Ravens down the stretch way more than I trust the Steelers. So this is a division that. Listen, I was wrong on a couple of weeks ago. I said this was crazy. But I don't see how you watch the Steelers the last couple of weeks and then watch the Ravens these last couple of weeks and just know the infrastructure. Like, one team's used to winning 12 to 14 games, the others used to scratching and clawing to get to nine or 10. And it does feel like they're headed back toward those paths. Now, obviously the Ravens aren't going to win 12 games this year, but right now they feel like they could go on a stretch of just rattling off some W's because you have that quarterback, you have that offensive firepower, and if their defense plays good, that was a problem. Their defense was atrocious if it's going to play good. And even tonight, like they were giving up yards, made some big things happen, created turnovers, got off the field on fourth down. Obviously the dude missed the kick early in the game, which was a big swing because then the Ravens went right down the field and scored. It's like a 14 point swing. But I think it's, I think it's fair to declare. Like, I don't want to say the Ravens are back because you're three and five, but the Ravens feel like tangibly real again. I love this guy. Al Michaels has been a huge part of my life. Anyone around my age or obviously older that has Been watching sports for decades. He's played a massive role in a lot of these events. And I mean, there are a couple guys, you know, Brett Musburger, Marv Albert, those type guys that when you're young and you first start watching games, it's a big deal, especially for those of us, you know, started watching games before we ever had cable in our house. So you had to be on network tv and these guys were stars. And Al Michaels is a legend. And it goes back to like the 70s when he was calling Pete Rose games with the Cincinnati Reds, to calling the hockey game in 1980, to obviously calling the NFL for a long time and working with John Madden and playing a major role in Sunday Night Football. But I think it's over. And a couple years ago, it could be longer than that. Now I remember watching games on TNT and thinking Marv Albert, like, couldn't tell what was going on. And obviously basketball, the pace of basketball is a lot different than football. It's much faster because it never stops. There's not a stop in the action between a miss and a fast break and pushing it back. So you really got to be on. But even tonight, like early in the game, there was a play where, where Al goes, oh, you just stopped a bit short. And it turned out it was like 4th and 5. It's like, can Al see? And I haven't noticed it as much, but I've heard buddies or people in the media talk about this. He's slipping and he's slipping hard. And listen, there's something to the name value of Marv Albert, of Al Michaels. And for a long period of time, that not only has mattered, that's been important. Like, those guys were the best in the business. But like an athlete, when a running back can no longer run or a pitcher can no longer throw strikes, it ends, it ends for everyone in the business. You know, coaches get fired, players get cut. And I think we're at the point where, you know, Al just needs to hang up the mic because I try not to be too negative when it comes to like legendary people, because I do respect it and I could never do look, just like most podcasters couldn't dream of what they do From a play by play standpoint in his heyday, how good he was and I was just a smooth cat. But at 80 years old calling these games, it does feel like if his fastball was much once, 100 miles an hour, it feels like he's throwing about 72 right now. And like it might take a second for the hitter to get adjusted from 100 to 72. But once they do, that thing's gone and it's, it's, it's ugly.
