I feel good. I mean, I. I think I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. I mean, it took. It took a while to like. To feel healthy enough to actually train and get to that point, but I feel great. You find your routine the later in your later years in your career, and you figure out what works for you, you know, schedule wise, workout wise, diet wise, all the things that you need to adjust and adapt to as the years go on. So I feel. Feel really good. Yeah. Last year was banged up.

But I mean, the whole team was. And so I feel good about my physical, where I'm at right now. And then just for everybody, like, that we had play last year. They got thrown in the fire. I feel good about where the team's at right now, too.

Question for you. Right. So, you know, I was. I was part of the 20, 21 team, won a Super Bowl. Right. Is there any. Was there any pressure for you coming here knowing that the guy that was here, that set a lot of records. So was there any pressure mentally for you? Like, all right, I'm coming behind somebody who. Who has set the standard. Right. How do I at least get there or pass it?

Yeah, I think there's a couple things there. It's like, I've always been me, and you can never replace Tom Brady shoes. Yeah. I don't care who you are. Only thing I can do is come in and be the best version of me, and that's talking shit.

Making sure that I, like I do. I lead in the way I know how to lead, definitely, and just be myself. Not try and do it the way he did, because, I mean, he was. He was 40 something at that stage. I mean, he probably knew what a defense was doing before they broke the huddle. And so just how can I do it in my own way? And I think there was more pressure put on it from the outside, but, I mean, rightfully so. It's like, who's going to replace them? Guys have been to the playoffs, won the super bowl, into the playoffs, and extra years after that. So it's like, yeah, the standard is high, but that's also why I wanted to come here. That's why I chose to come here, because you look at the pieces that you guys had after that run, after the deep playoff run, it's like, that's the culture. That's the type of place I want to be in. So, yeah, come in and don't try me, Tom. Be me.

And so you got to fight for what's yours. And so I try and do that every day. And, you know, we're playing football, I try to make it fun for the guys when we're out there. Like, yeah, there's a time to lock in, but there's a time that we're competing, we're trying to knock each other's heads off and win.

Yeah. Contrary to like, what people may or may not believe about, like, how hard it is to play quarterback in the NFL. Right. That alone, like you would, like, you must feel like a little bit of a journeyman. A little bit, right?

Definitely. I mean, I'm going into year nine now, fourth team, 11th O.C. so, like, I think people play for multiple teams. It's rare to end up on one team and stay there your whole career. But I think it's more so the different systems that make me feel like I've been everywhere.

Just coaches that have had different stops, different systems, philosophies, what's their bread and butter, fundamentals, what they're calling on first and second down. And so it's that part to me, it's. It's been a lot to handle, but it also. Where I'm at now, where the game slows down, it's helped me out to realize what I really like and like, what the things I'm comfortable with checking in. It's like third and fourth down, gotta have it situation. So it's I know the things I'm comfortable with, and I know if I communicate that with the guys, if we're on the same page, it doesn't matter what system we're running, what play's called. If we're on the same page, good things can happen.

You know, I think, like I mentioned earlier, it was eye opening to see that it wasn't just football for me, going from college to the NFL. It wasn't just about how do we win. There was a lot of people that are involved in it, and not everybody was trying to help us win. Not everybody was trying to do their part and do their role to. To do that. So I think that was the most eye opening part. But it wasn't. I mean, yeah, it was. There was ups and downs for sure, but a lot of downs with. When I came in in 2018, like the amount of high draft picks they had had in the past couple years, the free agent signings that we had before I got drafted, the culture was really starting to change. And that's a credit to John Dorsey, Elliott Wolf, Lonzo Highsmith for bringing in, like, football guys to truly try and change it. Like, you can't. Some things you can't change in a building, but you can change the locker room and the makeup of that. And they did a good job of

building that by you being a quarterback.

The formula is you have to go out there and draft winners. Right. I always tell people, you gotta be careful who you draft, because when you let people enter your team on your building, a lot of people come from losing colleges. That was my biggest thing. Right.

And it sounds messed up, he's going to be a Hall of Fame receiver. But of all the positions, to lose a guy like that, our receiver room was kind of made for it. We had. I mean, Chris is back looking like true cg, looking really, really good. Mecca is a stud. We asked him to do too much last year. Like, we took advantage of how smart he is to try and move him around and do whatnot. So he's going to take a big step. And then Jaylen McMillan, who's been. He's been hurt, got hurt in the preseason last year, but he's. He's probably our best one on one receiver separation wise juice. So we got. We got three really good guys. And then you got young guys like Tess Johnson that played a lot last year. Ted Hurst in the draft. David Sill's a guy that's played a lot of football, that knows the system. Came over with Z, Rob, and then, you know, the other skilled guys. But yeah, to lose to lose Mike stinks. You can't replace that. But when you have a room full of guys that have the capability and potential to move around and do different things, that's how you make up for it.

Yeah, I love that. I also see like, you know, around the league, the last two out of three years, you've been the shock caller of making all things happen. Tampa Bay. Right. You know, I feel like looking at from outside in the community has embraced you, like, and your wife, your family. Right. This locker room has embraced you. Right. We've seen throughout the history of NFL at your position, you know, organizations reinforce that. Right. You know, and double down on that. Right. Like, I know you going through some things right now, but like how has your teammates in this community supported you, you know, through, through, you know, this dilemma? Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, how has that been for you?

Yeah. Going back to the start, like right when we got here, Tampa community welcomed us in with open arms and like shortly after we got here, found out Emily was pregnant with her first, first kiddo and like just realizing that this is our home, that we're raising our daughter. And then a couple years later, now I have a three month old boy. So it's like this is home for us. But they've treated it and made it like that for us in the locker room. I mean you were in it like the O line room. A lot of those guys, everybody's so close. There's no egos in that locker room. It doesn't matter who you are, you just go about your business. And so for me, that feels like home. And so it makes it easy for me to just be upfront and honest. That's why like I've always worn my emotions and my thoughts on my sleeves. If you like that, great. If you don't, that's too bad. I'm not going to change for you.

But the guys appreciate that part of it. It's like we're, there's the business side of football. Yes, we all play this for a job, but they know that when it comes to game days, like it's, I'm ready for a good season like this. I want my lick back in 2026. No. And going back to division, it's like, yeah, everybody views the NFC south as probably the weakest in the whole NFL, and I get that. But we also haven't taken care of business within the division. We've split series with these teams. We've gone 02 against the Falcons and the Saints, whatever it might be. Like, it's. We haven't played to our potential. And, like, you got to take care of those games first.

And that's like, in the back of your mind, if you don't take care of those games, when it comes to a little bit of adversity down the road, you're like, oh, here we go again. So it's. We've played good against higher competition and some of the teams that are branded at top of the NFL, but we have to do that week in and week out. And I think that's, to me, that's the next step. And that's just about doing little things, right?

Doing that consistently throughout the year.

Every day. Every day. When we got back from Pittsburgh at the airport, it's freezing cold, Fans everywhere. Like, we won the Super Bowl. Yeah. Which is great. Obviously. I know you play for your fans everywhere you've gone. And I look at your story, you've been a journeyman in reality since the beginning, right? Like, you know, since walking on at a college, you know, asking to play, not saying, hey, here's your scholarship. Like, you know, you went, asked to play, right? Like, is, is it safe to say, like, the chip on your shoulder is still getting bigger and you know what I'm saying? Like, is it. Is, is that, is that spare?

[Baker Mayfield]

Yeah, no, it is. And I think if it wasn't and I had the mindset of, oh, I've arrived, I wouldn't have a job. Yeah, you gotta. To me, you gotta show up every day trying to earn that, earn that, right? And yeah, I know a franchise quarterback here, but I still gotta show up and pay my rent every day. It's corny, cliche, whatever you want to say, but that's, that's the mindset I have. You got to go earn it each day. And if you're not trying to get better, somebody's doing it. That's true. Somebody's going to beat you. And that's, that's the nature of playing at the NFL. It's the highest level possible. So somebody's always chasing it. Take your spot.

Yeah, you and, and Emily have been even in Cleveland, you guys are always like, in the community, always doing, doing things. And it's no different here. You guys recently did like the topgolf thing and all that. Like, how has that been? Like, just, you know, being in the community, doing foundation work, you know, supporting, you know, the causes that you guys stand and believe in. Like, how has that been?

I mean, you guys both did the same thing. Like, you realize that the platform we've been given, you got to give back or else you're not using it the right way. So for us, early on in my career, we didn't know what we wanted to do. So we do an event here, do something there. We didn't know, like, what exactly we wanted to target and do, like, truly support and put everything behind it. And so we started the foundation to support just under underprivileged youth, try and level the playing field for them to have the same resources that we did. You know, I was fortunate growing up, but to try and make sure everybody has the same opportunity to chase their dreams, whatever that may be. And so that's, that's a part of, like, when you're, get a new perspective on life, having kiddos, you realize raising your family is a Lot more important than playing football. And so making sure that you make Tampa a great place to raise kids for everybody and make sure everybody feels involved, feels like that. And that's how you get a fan base that'll ride or die for you as well. But it's. We wouldn't be using this platform or position unless we did that.

Definitely. My last question. My last question would be, how good is a healthy Bucs team?

I mean, top five in the league?

Dude, I was, that was the first game I'd ever missed in my life. And I remember, you know, just got, we ran, we ran title back to back against the Eagles. Hit it for like, hit it for like 12 yards. The first play had beat. Run the again. Yeah, let's go. So I pulled again and I'm like driving the guy up in the second level. Just, you know, right on my ankle. The pile kind of landed on me. I remember I was like, I was like, that feels. I was like, I don't like that feeling. That feels weird. I remember trying to like I have a bull rush from like Ryan Kerrigan.

They try to play again and try

to sit on a bull rush and just like, like go. They just like buckles. I'm like, oh my God. I'm like that, like that hurts and there's nothing to it. And I remember Cap was like, he's like, just go down. He's like, just go. I'm like, no, I'm fine. I'm fine. And I think it was like end up being like fourth, you know, third down, third down. So he coming off. I'm like, okay, try to go back out there. Another one, another bull rush. And then my. It's just given out and I, like, I tore some stuff my ankle. go out again or go have the Rams next week at home. And I'm in the hotel room like, like, trying to, like, take past. That's like, I'm good, I'm good. I'm okay, you know, And I get there to stadium early and, you know, my ankle is. My ankle's up. And our trainer was like, you know, hadn't done anything. He's a hop on one leg. And I'm like. I'm like, wow. Like, I, you know, warmed up or like, knowing. Knowing I physically. Knowing, like, knowing I physically couldn't. I'm like, just. I'm like, let me, you know, let me warm up a little bit. And just. He's like, I've got to protect you from yourself. He's like, he's like, you can't. You physically can't go. Go play a football game. And I'm like, that sucked. That was the first game I've ever missed.

How you felt, though, knowing that we had a good chance of going back to back.

And I never. And I. And even after the game, you know, we. We all kind of. We spoke, but we all went out, went our ways. But I never asked you how you, like, how you felt on the sideline watching that when we was down in the first, I think, like, 20 something to seven. Like, it was getting our ass whooped.

Yeah, you kind of feel helpless a little bit. Cause like, we had like, Josh Wells out there who was battling something. Like, he had, like a deep quad brace and. And then he came out and like, got it wrapped up. And like, Nick Lever, like, also a rookie, you know, my boy was out there and it's like Von Miller and like, Aaron Donald. That's like his second, like, time he's seen action all year. And like, he went out and did it, though. But, like, you know, he battled. And it's like you just feel like. Like you just feel like a piece of shit. Like, when you're out, you're like. It's like you're sending your boys out to, like, out to battle. And you're just sitting there, you're like, oh, I'm fine. You know, that's how it feels. And you're like, you're like, I'm just a piece of.

I pretty much say I was trying to like get like information and guidance from guys around the league. Like I reach out like the album Camara. I mean, he chopped it up with me. Like you just trying to see the basic on how the league gonna be. Cause everybody say it's gonna be different, but just being able to get them guys experience and just getting here learning on my own for real. But I had like Rashad in the room chase them guys. Them guys led me in a certain type of way. But I feel like when you get here, you got to figure it out on your own. And at the end of the day, just Play ball.

Yeah, man, you ended a drought, right? You know, running back here in Tampa.

[Leonard Fournette]

What should I try to do?

[Jarvis Landry]

Hasn't been over a thousand yards, man. And you did that first season, like, can you talk about like, what that was, what that whole experience was like, what that year was like? And playing on that team with those guys and, you know, being a rookie and putting up those numbers, that ain't easy to do.

[Bucky Irving]

I know, I know. I mean, I mean, I came in like, when I come in a situation, I try to be. I try to connect with the guys as much as I can. Cause, you know, like, at the end of the day, these. The guys that you go into war with each and every week. So I mean, like, it started off in the off season. I feel like as much work as you put in in the off season is going to translate to the games on Sunday. Just being able to come in at first, not getting really much touches, getting like four or five touches. But like my coach at Oregon, we always had guys in the room, so whenever you get your opportunity, you gotta take full advantage of it, no matter how many kills you get. So I always had that motto. So like, when I got in the game, if it was four or five touches, I was gonna try to get busy with it. So just being there, going there, whenever they throw me in there, I mean, they threw me out there. I had figured out, had them guys trusted me and then just let my instinct kick in and play.

[Jarvis Landry]

Yeah, you had eight touchdowns, right? Like, which again, I was pulling up a stat probably like two months ago about rookie seasons. And I'm not gonna lie, we had a conversation in the offseason heading to your rookie year, and you was like, man, I don't know like what the situation gonna be, but I'm ready, I'm prepared. Right. And I saw your name at like number like 5 or number 6 on the all time rookie, like, list of, you know, rushing yards, bro. Like, I know that's, that's, that's a huge. Was a huge thing for you and obviously leading into this season, you know you want to be every down back, right? But you know, the landscape of running back has changed a little bit. Like in this offense now that you're healthier, how do you kind of see things playing out this year? If you can have a crystal ball

[Bucky Irving]

bringing in, bringing in Kenny, I think that'll help me a lot because we got pretty much similar games. And I, I do my best when I got somebody else that's gonna spin with me. And I feel like, that's what running backs at their best. I'm not a guy that want the low and 30 carries. I feel like if it take you that many carries to get off, you're not that guy. That's how I just feel him off.

So I think for people at home, they don't know what it's like mentally when you're going through an injury, right. I know you tore your labrum and especially having a year you was going to have. And we always talk about this where the hard work sometimes doesn't get shown because of an injury or circumstances. Can you. Can you tell us, explain to us, like, mentally, what was you going through? Cause I remember when I was here at 2021 and I got hurt and it's going to my. I'm trying to get a deal. So I'm out there doing this shit, man. I'm crying. I'm like, damn. Cause like, that plays in your mind when you put the work in. And sometimes you don't see the production 100%. So what was your mind at going into that year when you tore your label?

[Bucky Irving]

I ain't gonna lie, bro. It put me in a different head space. Cause like, growing up and stuff like that was my first time ever being heard in football. So I want to thank God for that because I was blessed. But then going into my year after, I just had you try not to pay attention to the noise that people talking about you, but it just somehow pop up and you take that shit in the back of your mind, like, yo, I'm not about to be there. So just hearing people say, like, oh, can he come back off the scene he just had, or he gonna be a bus. So, like, when I see stuff out there about me, it kind of gives me an edge because, like, all my life I've been doubted. So you saying something else about me is just going to give me an edge to go out there and get more. But nah, bro, I just had to lean on people that really care about me. Not as just a football player, but as a person. And I had to lean on my faith, bro. And that Was the only thing that really got me through it because it kind of put me in a different airspace, not being around my teammates. These are the guys that make me happy. And, like, it was my first time, like, damn. So I see what guys going through when they.

[Leonard Fournette]

Not only that, right? You have just, like, people have expectations of you have high expectations of yourself, right? And this outside of football, right? What was your biggest hurdle in life you had to face and overcome? Whether it's now where you're at now, cutting people off, or making the decision that's best for you in your future, Whether it's friends, family, like, can you tell me what was some of those biggest decisions you had to make now that you know you're going into, what, year three right now, year three of your career. And what have you learned as far as saying no to people when they ask you for certain things and just trying to manage or balance your life as a football player and, you know, as being human?

[Bucky Irving]

I pretty much say what really motivate me every day. I mean, I lost my dad when I was two years old, so I never really got a chance to meet him. So I always keep that in the back of my head, like, what if I had a dad? How. How would my life be? Just, like, growing up, seeing people, AAU people. I mean, my guys and stuff, Parents taking them to practice. I lost my grandma going into my. I think it was my senior year when I had committed to Minnesota, coming right out of high school. And then when I was in school my freshman year, I had got a call and my little brother had been killed at 15 years old. So just being able to, like, the environment and the area that I grew up in, like, my house being shot up, it was just a whole bunch of things, but I was always around that stuff. But I always tried to go a different route because, like, I used to ask my mom, like, yo, like, how did my dad die? Like, and she said, from gun violence

[Jarvis Landry]

and being in the streets.

[Bucky Irving]

So I think it was just, like, the environment that I grew up in that I try to go a different route. And like, you say the hardest thing is, like, growing up with your close friends. And then, like, it come to a

point where it gotta separate yourself.

Gotta separate yourself. Cause they not on the same thing that you want. And it hurt.

But at the end of the day, like, as you start getting older, things try to go your different ways. And then, like you said, like, it ain't easy, bro. Saying no to your family members that been there for you. But at the end of the day, like, y' all gotta understand, like, I'm the one that getting up at 4:50 in the morning.

That's great. What would you say heading into the season? I know there's all. We always talk about team goals, but shit, I'm trying to get off too. I ain't gonna lie. I ain't gonna lie. So, you know, like, what's some of your personal goals heading to? Heading into, you know, into this season?

To be honest, bro, I never really like set goals for myself. I always just try to be better than the year that I had. And coming off the injury that I had, I gotta stay healthy and pretty much spin like I spin, bro. Yeah, yeah.

But I'm gonna be real though. Sometimes it's a good thing to set goals. Cause you know, my goals was especially being like an every down back. Whether it was to catch 80 some passes or I was never gonna reach a thousand yards. Cause it was a passing team like my dog say I 30 carries. Yeah, you asked.

So I take my 10 or 15 and. And going about my day. But when it comes to goals, I think my goal is for you this year.

Was it a mindset that I'm a third round pick, I'm just going to do what it is? Or was it before that?

Honestly, it was before that. Like, when I first started playing football, like my first two years, I played linemen, like, I was like a taller kid. But like, we had like, bro, we had weight classes and like, we had like stripes on our helmet. So if you had like one stripe, you could be like a tight end. And two stripes, you. You can't touch the ball. You touch the ball to play dead. He was on the line. That was me My first two years. So, like, when I fell in love with the game, I couldn't even touch the ball at all. So I learned quick, like, if you want to be a part of this, I guess, about the team. And so, like, I'm kind of, like, had to have my fun on defense, and I'm like, yo, once I. Once I'm able to touch the ball, it's a rap. It's a rap. And so I've always understood, like, the team perspective of it. Like, I'm just like, it's. It's more than about me. Which is probably why, like, my approach is, like, how it is. Like, I'm never, like, giving the ball, giving the ball, giving the ball. I'm like, it's gonna come. Like, if I do my thing, it's gonna work. But I also know, like, on pass plays, like running backs, y', all blocking, making sure that the quarterback got time. Linemen block. Everybody doing their job. Yeah, it's up to me to do my job on Run Place.

Can you explain on a game day, what is it like playing with playoff London?

Nah, it's different. Like, playoff lending was different, bro. And, like, I remember he was talking about it, like, before. Like, before we got into playoffs. Like, he, like, he about to turn up, and I'm like, we'll see you, huh?

I'm like, we'll see. And then he playoffs hit, he clicked a different switch. You feel me? And it was going crazy. But it wasn't just the run game. It's pass game, too. So I got a lot of respect for that, Leonard.

Yeah. You know, I just had a great balance. And obviously a part of that balance, right, was your guy Mike Evans.

Right.

You know what I mean? Like, this your first time actually. This is gonna be your first year actually taking the field without him.

Yeah, it is weird. Like, it's even weird just seeing him in a different, like, shade of red. Like, he in a different number. He had a different shade of red.

And for me, like, I feel like people think that, like, my role's gonna change, but my role's never been dictated off of what Mike has done. You feel me? Like, our roles have been, like, complimentary to each other. Like, all of my best years. It's not like Mike was hurt or any of those. Just, like, we was side by side.

You know what I'm saying? So as I keep doing what I do, and obviously Mike gonna do his thing, but I'm excited to see what these young guys can bring, man.

So from this. From. Can you talk about what you learned from Mike? You know, I know my years, my. My quick three years here with y', all, and I've seen how we have practice. You teaching them a few things. He's teaching you. Can you tell me from, like, a teacher standpoint where. What did you learn the most valuable thing from?

[Chris Godwin]

Mike?

[Bucky Irving]

I think.

[Chris Godwin]

I think the biggest thing I learned from Mike was, like, how aggressive he was at the catch point, but also his ability to catch the ball down the field. He was one of the best on goal balls ever. Because when he's running his routes, when the ball's in the air, he's not decelerating. Everybody looks for the ball, and they slow down. He's taking off, so it looks like he's going faster, but it's like him and the db, they both look. The DB slows down, and he's still running the same speed, and so he's, like, easily, like, making these plays. So it's a little stuff like that. It's like you got to keep running to the ball, and then at the catch point, you got to be ridiculously physical because these guys, they fighting for their lives, too.

[Jarvis Landry]

Yeah, man. You've had a lot of stretches over the last decade. We were just talking about it, right? Like, you know, playing, like, really, really, really good football, especially at the receiver position. You know what I mean? And I would say in. And in some cases, right. Being the benchmark, right. Of, like, what that looks like at the receiving position and how the game is played from a physical standpoint to being a monster in the red zone, third down, situational stuff. Right. And then obviously, a couple injuries, sideline injury, you know, it slows your momentum down in a way. Like, can you talk about maybe when you're playing your best, then, you know, going through those injuries.

[Leonard Fournette]

Yeah.

[Jarvis Landry]

What you learned from it, what you took from it, and Then where you are now going into this year, right? Because, you know, once you get year over, year eight, year six, they're like, you, the old head in the room, like, you're slowing down. You know what I mean? Can you talk about all three of those different phases of, you know, maybe aspect of your career?

[Chris Godwin]

So, like, for me, like, I've always believed that I can be, like, at the top of the top of the top, right? Like, best in the world. Like, I've always believed that I can reach that. Like, that level. And, like, I got to that point, like, my third year, you know what? I'm like, I'm all Pro. And then, like, two years later, like, I'm having arguably, like, my best year. Like, the year after we win the Super Bowl. And then to your point, like, take a bad hit, blow out my knee. You feel me? And then people don't realize how long it takes to come back from an injury.

It still brings together, even in the midst, like, the season's over. Him. And which I tell people, I promise you, if Chris, we never got here, we'll be back. Because that's what we was missing. Then when AB Pulled what he pulled off, right? He was the long, he was the deep shot.

I'm like, bro, that was our best team.

And, like, even with the injuries, bro, like, you said something that kind of, like, really spoke about your character when Bobby came on. Bobby seen you on a stretcher and you said, gotta get back to work. Where does that come from? Like. Cause you wasn't negative, you wasn't crying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Elaborate on that for me, man.

Yeah, I don't know, man. I think it's again, it's just like, how, how I'm built and I went through the first injury, like, with the knee, so I knew it's like, it's gonna be a process, you feel me? And I knew that in that moment, like, I talk about with my wife all the time, like, it's not about, like, what happens to you, it's about how you respond. And like, that was like, that's me in the moment. I can be here. Like, what was me like? Sad as shit. Like, everyone, like, you know, like, like, we pray for all that, but at the end of the day, like, we gotta get back to work. Like, your dream's not gonna work if you do, if you don't, all that kind of stuff. It's like I gotta be able to look at myself in the mirror and say that, like, I am who I, who I say I am. And if I'm telling young guys, like, about the work they gotta put in, if, if I'm preaching all these things to other people, who am I? That when trouble comes my way, I just fold, right? So in that moment, it's like, shit, it's back to work, man.

[Jarvis Landry]

You guys mentioned the back to back chances that you guys had. We had Gronk on the show a few times and he said the same thing, bro. And I think also when I hear Leonard talk about it just now, what spoke to me is like a testament of the team player you are. And truthfully, that link that bridges everything together from an offensive perspective, right? As being a team guy, being a blocker, you know, being a leader. Right. Whether that's by example, because he always say, he's like, man, Chris is quiet, but he's going to do his thing. That's what, you know, lead by example. Right. That year, obviously you get hurt. Like, what was your support system like? You mentioned your wife. Like, you know, how is that going through that process, you know, getting to get back healthy to be the person that you said you, you were talking about. Yeah. You know, what was your support system?

[Chris Godwin]

Yeah. I mean, to your point, again, as my wife, like my parents, my siblings, I got like a close group of people that have been with me like the whole way and just like continue to motivate me, to push me, but like, at the end of the day too, like, I'm the type of person, like, even with all the support that people give you like, you still got to do the shit. Yeah. And, like, that's the. That's one thing you really learn about rehab is, like, when you out there, like, on your own. On your own, like, you gotta actually.

[Leonard Fournette]

Hard.

[Chris Godwin]

It's hard.

[Jarvis Landry]

Yeah.

[Chris Godwin]

And most people, like, if you guaranteed someone like, that they would make the money that we can make, right? Just to go through. But you have to go through this rehab to get to it.

[Jarvis Landry]

They probably wouldn't.

They wouldn't do it.

Yeah.

[Chris Godwin]

But it's not worth it. Like, you doing the conditioning on your own, like, it's hot as hell out there. You know what I mean? And you by yourself, and it's tough to continue to push yourself when your body's not feeling good.

And, like, what I was saying earlier, it's like when you're going through rehab, like, you're rehabbing your body to get back to baseline.

And so people don't understand how long it takes to get back to a high level of play. It's like, we're going against the best

in the world, especially mentally.

And it's like you. You trying to get back to, like, 75%, but it's like, where the greatness happens. Like, it's in, like, from the 75 to, like, 100%, like, where you're able to, like, work on your refinement of your skills, of your game. And so it was like, after a year of an injury, it's like, it probably take, like, another year to really get back to ball. You know what I'm saying? So, like, after the Knee, it's like 20, 24. Like, again, like, that would have been my best year.

Right?

[Chris Godwin]

And, like, people forget, like, when I got. When I. When I broke my ankle, I was 1, 2, or 3 in all the major categories. It's like week seven of the year. I'm like, yo, I'm about to go crazy again. And then it happens, and then, bam, you restart. And it's the same thing. Like, last year was me trying to bounce back, trying to get everything back. And to your question earlier, Jarvis, like, I'm excited about this year. I had a full year to, like, train, to prep my body, getting to do training camp where I didn't. I didn't get training camp last year. Like, I didn't. I was doing everything on my own last year. And, like, it's tough to. When you miss those reps, to. To really get going, and then you get thrown into the mix and you a month behind everybody.

[Jarvis Landry]

Right.

[Chris Godwin]

You feel me? So to me, I'm just, like. I'm always just trying to keep my head down. Always trying to work because, like, it'll come. I believe that everything that happens to me is, like, for the betterment of. Of me as a person and as a player.

Yeah. Tell me about. Tell me about. You know, you've also been a guy where we look at other guys around the league, like D Hop, you know, a few other guys. Larry Fitzgerald was another guy that came to my mind that have played with multiple quarterbacks. Right. But their play has never changed. Right. You've seen what Jameis, Tom Baker, Fitz, Fitz. You know, you've been through a couple different ones. Couple different ones. Right. But your play has always been the same. What is it? I know for me, I don't feel like I'm a receiver, quarterback, guru. Like, I always feel like for some reason, me and a quarterback have always been the same page. Like, what do you think? What do you think? I can tell you where it happens for. I feel like that happens for me. But tell me, where do you think that. That you think that happened for you with, you know, with. With the string of quarterbacks that you've had?

[Chris Godwin]

Like, I've always, like, tried to tell the quarterbacks that I've been, like, fortunate enough to play. I'm like, I'm not here to fool you. Like, for me, I want to be able to. To have the clearest body language possible. You know what I'm saying? So, like, I want you to know that, like, if I'm like, if I'm a breakout, like, even if I'm gonna do, like, a rocker step at the top or whatever, like, I don't want you to be confused as to what I'm going to do. And so it's like that. And then whenever I come out of my break, I'm always going to be friendly, you feel me? And, like, presenting myself as a. Like, as a catchable, as an easy target for the quarterback to throw to. And then at the end of the day, too, it's like, the more catches you make, the more trust you build.

You know what's crazy? What stand out to me about what you and Mike, like, even before I got here, I knew y' all was good, right? But y' all don't brag, y' all don't talk. That's probably. Well, for me, like, initially, like, it's me just, like, getting in touch with the earth. You know what I mean? Like, the earth itself has its own energy, and it kind of balances out the energy that you have in your body. That's kind of where it started for me. And then everything starts from the ground up in your body. It's like. And I really learned that through, like, this ankle injury. Like, everything is from the ground up. And, like, our feet are confined in these cleats that are, like, super narrow, and, like, our toes get kind of bound up like this. So it's like, between, like, wearing, like, toe spacers and walking around barefoot, you got to, like, really train and build up the muscles in your feet to allow them to be able to do what we needed to do. It's like, if you got weak feet, it's going to lead up to a host of other injuries, whether it's ankles, your knees, your hip. It's going to work its way all the way up, all the way up the system.

No, I'm a firm. I'm a firm, firm believer. I'm a firm believer in that, bro. Because, you know, I would say my years in Miami, when I was a younger player, I didn't adopt the ways of some of my bets. And, you know, and I don't think either, like, taking care of your body was a huge thing back then. We've seen it develop a lot more through other Sports. Like with LeBron James, you know, I remember seeing a stat he said he put, like, a 2 million in his body. And then from there, I think that that switched. This flipped the switch in everybody's brain a little bit. A lot of players, but I was Big on the grounded thing, too, bro. I was every walk through, whether it was on turf, grass, no matter what, you know, it's all connected, right? And it is, bro. It's all connected, you know, and in a way, too, like, bro, I would say, especially in Cleveland, like, it was. It contributed to a lot of, like, you know, my success and my readiness to go to practice, to be ready for a game, like, rolling your feet out, you know? But outside of that, man, like, obviously, you've been on a championship football team, right? You've won the highest honor. I'm sure you've won leadership or best receiver on the team a few times as well, right? Like. Like, what's special about this locker room? Like, what's special about these guys, you know? Or maybe is very, you know, similar to the championship teams that you've played on in this team.

I would say, like, the interesting thing about this team is, like, we don't have anybody that's, like, super egotistical. Like, everybody is all, like, for the unit. And, like, if you want to be a great team, like, you need that. Like, you need guys that's pulling the rope in the right direction. And I think that, like, honestly, I mean, I think a lot of the world is, like, sleeping on us, but, like, for sure.
