Hey, what's up guys? It's Levar Arrington here from up on Game. Wanted to talk to you about a serious issue. Hate. You know, something personal that I have experienced and witnessed and watched is how the hate in our country is getting so out of control. It's at an all time high and people are facing way too much hate. A lot of people don't think it's a problem, but I do. I can recall growing up being in high school. One of my high school teammates, good dude too, just happened to wear a shirt that was a derogatory shirt towards my racial group. It depicted Malcolm X moments after he was assassinated and it just made me feel really, really sad. It made me feel upset and so many other emotions. And it's really because we're supposed to be a team, but it's going to take all of us to stop that sort of hate. As I mentioned, we are a team in this country. So let's take a break from hate so our team can regroup and regain our momentum. We need to take a time out against hate. Visit standuptoallhate.org to help and join me in calling for a time out against hate by following at what's up with Hate? Or posting the Blue Square Emoji Apple.

Find your local station for the herd@foxsportsradio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports Radio. Here we go. Great Friday show planned. We can't wait. Best Blazin 5 of the year in one hour live in Los Angeles. It's the Herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, thanks for making us part of your day. Carson Palmer stops by blazing five I love the picks. J Mac so many. You know, I gotta tell you this. Next Friday, Notre Dame, Indiana, the College Football Playoff star. So you look at this weekend and you're like, well, it's the calm before the storm. But the LA Rams separating from the old Brockster. I'm mentally ready for the Brock Purdy slander. And listen, there's no defense. He didn't play great. What do you want me to do? So but that's not the lead story today. The lead story is Debo Samuel. Look at me. Take care of me. And that's what The San Francisco 49ers did. Spent the early portions of the game trying to make sure Debo was happy. Just like Brandon iu. Same thing to the Niners. Held out when he came back. Six games, no touchdowns. Stop pandering to wide receivers. 49ers Build your O and D lines. Your best receiver is a seventh rounder who came into the league with no ego and still doesn't have one. Joanne Jennings, you start drafting these wide receivers in the first and second round about couple years in. Get me the ball. Deebo isn't washed, but he's not what he used to be. And clearly, inarguably, Brock Purdy was forcing the ball to Deebo Sweeney to make sure he was okay. Don't be shocked if A.J. brown and Jalen hurts, and they waste a first half doing the same damn thing as they faced the Steelers. And if Pittsburgh wins and Philadelphia's first quarter and a half is trying to get A.J. brown the ball, that's what happened last night. Brock Purdy went into that game. And in fact, I looked this morning. First 12 offensive plays, 4 of 12 drawn up for Debo. You should have had 8 of 12 drawn up for George Kittle. He's still elite. Kittle's amazing. And you're having to take care and babysit and coddle. This is not the NBA. It's the NFL. You play to win the game. And it was an ugly night. It was a wet night. Matt Stafford couldn't do anything right in the first half. But the Rams came to play a game and win. No agendas, not trying to placate anybody. I mean, listen, Cooper Cupp could be upset. He's been unseated by Puka Nakua. Clearly, Cooper cup blocks as much as he goes out for a pass. But it was Matt Stafford, Kyron Williams, Sean McVeigh, Cooper Cup, Havenstein, all about winning a game, no agendas. Stafford had a very bad opening half, right? I mean, he almost threw about nine picks. But you know what they did at halftime? They're like, you know what? Let's just run the ball. Let's just run the ball. Did Puka get upset? Did anybody pout? Did anybody go into the locker room? The Rams came out and said, it's all about ball. Let's just run the football. Stafford was off his game. And then eventually, Matt couple nice escapes. Kyron Williams, terrific young player. Just a terrific young player. Blake Corum getting snaps. Puka Cooper Cup, I mean, it was just all about football. And the Niners, by the way, here's another thing about the Niners, that devondre Campbell, a linebacker because Dre Greenlaw was healthy, came in and played and was great. And they let him be the starter. And Devon Drake Campbell pouted, refused to go into the game in the third quarter, pouted, took his ball and went home. Can you imagine that? Suddenly now San Francisco's not just old and expensive and brittle. They got a culture issue. Get Debo demanding the ball. Yet Brandon Iuk holding out a camp. You got Campbell the linebacker. Does he think he's Fred Warner? Does he think he's Dre Greenlaw? Hufunga Bosa. How many Pro Bowls? I mean, give me a break. So, you know, it was a classic example of this, by the way. A very young Rams team that defense Nobody's making any money. That Rams team, it's like a college team. No egos on the road, sloppy and wet, ugly first half. I think even their kickers are rookie. I mean, everybody's young on the Rams except old Matt Stafford, who was absolutely great when it mattered the most. But. And by the way, the Rams now are finally healthy. They're getting their tight end. Their number one tight end is coming back. So the old line's finally healthy. And by the way, Stafford wasn't sacked. When Stafford isn't sacked, the rams have won 10 straight games. So this Rams team, no turnovers last night, no sacks. But more importantly, no pouting, no taking my ball and going into the locker room. No building a game plan to placate and pander to a wide receiver who's not what he once was. Here's a couple of the Niners. George Kittle, who is still amazing, and Charvarius Ward talking about devondre Campbell quitting mid game. It's more of a one person making a, like Mooney said, a selfish decision. And I'm with Mooney on that. And I. I've never been around anybody.
John Mittelkoff
That'S ever done that.
Eric Mangini
And I hope I'm never around anybody that does that again. So for him to do that, that's some selfish stuff to me, in my opinion, like, it's probably going to be cut soon. So, you know, it is what it is with that. Say this for Devo. Devo didn't go into the locker room now. He had a terrible drop. I could not. As a football coach, I do not believe the culture of the NFL. They don't do load management in the NFL. They don't do that. You play hurt, everybody's hurt. By week three, everybody's backup quarterbacks are banged up for practice. Everybody's banged up in the NFL. The Niners have great linebackers. The guy that left is their third best linebacker. But to quit on your team in the middle of it. Bye. Bye. Take care. See you. I mean, Debo, I don't like that stuff either, but he's playing. He's not what he once was. But you can't quit in your team. Can't do it. Can't do it. Meanwhile, yesterday I came on the show and sometimes I see the comments. You folks can be a bit hurtful. I suggested, I thought it was just reasonable. I am America's honesty broker. I said, I think Belichick's going to stay one year at Carolina, get exhausted by the tedium, which is known as college athletics. And Go back to the NFL, because I do think next year he'll get a job offer. And this is all rehabbing college tv. So did you see the little addendum in Bill Belichick's contract? The Carolina job? It's just. It's just a little footnote. What's that in fine print? Belichick can leave June 2 this year, back to the pros. Now, he's not going to this year. Nobody hires A football coach June 2. But Bill Belichick can enter the portal, as they say, June 2nd. And that may be a little footnote, little fine print, but I can assure you the legal teams fought over that. Bill demanded. That was in his contract. And Bill got it. Because this job, the top agents in college football. I noted this yesterday. Jimmy Sexton's the powerhouse. He's not sending his best clients for this job because of the administrative, chancellor, academic, athletic, you know, fissures in the athletic department. So basically, Belichick can be off Tobacco Road before he's finished with his first cigarette. This addendum is not about this year. He's not going to leave. Now, my prediction, he'll stay a year and Belichick goes to the NFL and will get an offer because there's seven openings a year. And Belichick had a quote yesterday. He said, it kind of came to me, this college football thing. No, it did not. It did not come to him. The NFL left him. And so he's a pro football coach, and he. He is going to get an offer next year, in my opinion, and he'll bolt. And all this for Belichick has been about rehab. So Brady leaves and win a Super Bowl. Belichick looks out of touch. Matt Patricia to offensive coordinator. So then you go into rehab. So what does he do? He gets on tv and Bill's smiling. He's fun. He's got fun stories. He is showing the NFL. I'm not the old curmudgeon you think I am. Then he's got the young girlfriend. He goes to college, he looks youthful. It's fun. He's again showing the market. Hey, I'm not some old crusty guy. I'm gonna relate to kids and the transfer portal. I am here to stay. Except for the fine print. The fine print says he can get into the portal June 2nd. And you fight over stuff like that. The legal team spent hours on stuff like that. Sometimes a day or two on stuff like that. Here was Belichick yesterday when asked about it, Belichick basically said, I did not come here Just to leave. Then why is that in the contract? You think he asked for that and Carolina said, sure, we'll pour 30, 40, 50 million into it and you can leave in an hour. It's not the way it works. I've had a few contract negotiations. So anyway, that, that I thought was something, uh, it. The, the. The details always look at the fine print and there you go. Um, you know, it's interesting. I am going to talk about Brock Purdy now, Jason, I want you to get ready because if I've said before, in our business, you know this to be true. In our business, you and I can not love a player and we're immediately marginalized as haters. And that's not the case. Like you could sometimes you could. Like I've always said, I really, really like Jason Tatum of the Celtics. I don't love him late in games. I think Jalen Brown's the guy I trust to want the ball more. And he's shown it as an MVP of the Eastern Conference and of the finals in the two biggest series in the Celtics in the last decade. Jalen Brown was viewed by the team, the coaches, as the guy that we give the ball to. So I don't hate Jason Tatum. He's one of the 10 players in the NBA I would start my franchise with. But I would also put Jalen Brown on that team too, because he is a killer late in games. And so with Brock Purdy and Dak. I've never hated Dak. He is Kirk Cousins with a star in his helmet. That's what he's always been. He's Kirk Cousins with a star in his helmet. You can win a division, you can go on winning streaks. The intangibles are amazing. Quality guy, smart guy, leadership qualities. But let's not pretend it's Mahomes. So you can't pay him like Mahomes. And truth is, both cousins in Minnesota, he got paid more than he was. Probably his real value was and Dak the same. And now the Cowboys are out of money. So that now here's where San Francisco's in a spot. They haven't written the check yet to their Kirk cousins or their dac. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, weekdays at noon Eastern, 9am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the iHeartRadio app.

LeVar Arrington
Hey, this is Levar Arrington here from up on Game and listen, I want to talk to you about something very serious for a minute, all right? Something personal to me and right now something that should be personal to you as well. In our country, the hate is at an all time high. It's like we're going backward. The hate is winning. We can't allow that, all right? It's out of control. So many different people, so many different groups are facing too much hate. And it's enough. It's time for it to stop. We need to stop, regroup, change the momentum as a team. Because that's what we are. Everyone in this country is on the same team, so let's act like it. And when a team can't get it together, what do you do? You call a timeout. And that's what we need to do. Call a time out against hate. Let's think about what we say and do. And when we see hate, when we see someone doing or saying those things we know are wrong and hateful, we need to call it out. I'ma call it out. You need to do the same thing. Desks on fire almost. I got to get this through this thing. The Blazing five is hot. Here we go. That's a hot one. Let's blaze it up.
Doug Gottlieb
Fire it up.
Eric Mangini
It's Collins Blazing five. Chiefs and Browns I have the Browns plus four and keep your eye on a possible upset. Number three offense in the league since Jameis Winston arrived and the number two passing offense, Miles Garrett tied for second in sacks and the Chiefs 07 against the spread in their last seven games and three straight games decided by a field goal or less. Their offense is not delivering big plays in Kansas City and Mahomes has been sacked a career high 35 times. Kansas City struggling four points. It's in Cleveland Browns to cover the final 2827 Chiefs. I'm taking the points, Steelers and Eagles. I'm taking Pittsburgh plus five and a half. They held that great Browns offense to 14 points last week because they were so great. On third down they are tied for first in the league in turnover differential. They don't give it away, but they take it away. Their offense leads the NFL in time of possession. Their defense is the second best in the league on third down and Russell Wilson since week seven. Top five and six in everything. Meanwhile, the Eagles Jalen Hurts held under 25 pass attempts three straight games. Kicking issues with Jake Elliot, A.J. brown drama. Mike Tomlin is the best underdog coach in NFL history. Not an opinion, a fact. I think it goes down to the end. I will take the Eagles to win narrowly again. Five and a half. Way too many points. Take Tomlin and the Steelers here to cover. Bills and Lions. I've flipped. I like Detroit first. They're coming off rest. The Bills are coming off a highly emotional game with the Rams. Jared Goff at home last five games. 78% completion percentage. You thought Stafford ate the bill. Secondary alive. Their defense is top even since the Hayden Hutchinson injury. The Bills highly emotional on the road again, limited practice time. They couldn't practice yesterday because of 30ft of snow. So here's a team that has to go on the road again. To the best home team in the NFL. By the way, the Bills are 2 and 3 against teams with winning records. I thought I liked Buffalo. The more I went and looked at this. Jared Goff's last five games. I'm going to take Detroit to win a great game and cover 33 to 28. Buccaneers at Chargers. You know, I really like the Chargers. Tampa Bay's all beat up. The Chargers coming off a two point loss to the Chiefs had them beat five and two over their last seven. Their defense is fantastic. It's number one in the league. Fewest touchdowns allowed. Number one in the red zone. It is hard to get into the end zone on the Chargers. And Justin Herbert. Holy moly. Eleven straight starts without a pick. That's tied for the longest streak in league history. The Bucs are beating the Giants, Panthers and Raiders. Baker Mayfield back to back games with multiple interceptions. Their defense is not good. This is a mismatch of defenses and I get the better quarterback and I think I get the better coach and it's in la. What don't I get here? I'm going to take the chargers to win it. 28, 23. Coach, defense, quarterback, home field edge. Packers at Seahawks. Green Bay is a better team. I'll lay the two and a half points at Seattle. They're just a better team. They're coming off extra rest. I love offensive coaches off extra rest. They're 7 and 2 since the start of October. Both losses to Detroit. Detroit's pretty good 9 and 1 when holding opponents under 30. Seattle's not going to score 30 points. Josh Jacobs. This is now a power run team. Four straight games for Jordan Love. Over 100 passer rating like Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia. They're saying, listen, you don't need to throw at 38. We'll throw at 26. Seattle. They're an average home team, 3 and 4. Geno this year. I know we all love Geno. 14 touchdowns, 12 picks. Hasn't been very effective at home. They're beat up in the backfield. I like the packers to win and I like the packers to cover in a wildly entertaining game. 28 to 24. So if you look at my picks again, I really like these. We're getting down to the home stretch. I'm taking the Browns and I'm taking the Steelers as dogs. But I like the Lions, the Chargers and the Packers. I think in all those games. Buffalo I liked initially, but now they can't practice. Now they're off a highly emotional game. You saw how bad the Rams were in the first half last night. You can't have teams playing highly emotional games. Then crank it up and say, do that again. And Detroit is absolutely great at home. That's my blazing five. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, weekdays at noon Eastern, 9am Pacific.

What would be the solution?
Doug Gottlieb
You get rid of them.
Eric Mangini
Yeah.
Doug Gottlieb
You move on. It's bad on so many levels, Colin, because it's not just that he quit. It's that you go into the game and you inactivate someone that could have helped you. And then this guy quits when he's supposed to go in. So you don't even have the replacement player for it. And he quits during a game that is close. And that's your last chance to really have any shot at the playoff. I mean, it's terrible. Yeah. I think you suspend them first and then don't really give them an opportunity to go play anywhere else.
Eric Mangini
Yeah. All right. Bill Belichick, I thought it was interesting. It was in the fine print of the contract. He can leave for virtually no penalty June 2nd. Now, he's not going to leave this year, obviously. Right. Nobody's hiring a coach, but he may be entering the transfer portal much sooner than we thought. I've said this, Eric. I said this. He's a pro football coach. Ten years ago, maybe the NFL left him. Not just him leaving the NFL, he's rehabbing his image. He's on television. He's more fun who he's dating. College is younger. I feel like it's a rehab. I'm not to be cynical, but how does it land for you?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah. Well, in order for it to be a rehab, it's got to be successful. And I think the real edge that Bill has and his staff is going to have is going to be From a strategy standpoint, they're going to win some games that they shouldn't win because he's going to be better than some of the coaches that he's facing, and that's huge. But we all know that it's not always about the exes nos. It's about the Johnny's and Joes and whether or not he can get the players in. Okay, that's one component. Can you get the players in and the nil. The money helps because it's not just recruiting. I don't think he'd have any edge whatsoever from a recruiting standpoint. And then the second part, which I think is going to be really challenging, Colin, is that's a hard program. And in New England, you're under contract. You can't leave. In college football with the transfer portal. If those guys don't like the way it's going, they can leave. So you're not just recruiting the players to get in. You got to keep recruiting them to some degree to keep them at the college. So it's layered there. And that, to me, is going to be a huge challenge for them.
Eric Mangini
So last night it was very clear the Niners made a point in their first 12 plays of getting the ball to Deebo to appease him. A.J. brown's complaining about his touches. And I look at it and I'm like, Eric, if you go in the NFL, if you go to a game with any other plan, then win. If you're trying to prove, like Ohio State a couple weeks ago played Michigan, they were trying to prove how physical they were. Michigan was trying to win. And I look at last night with San Francisco, I think the train goes off the tracks when you're trying to get touches for somebody. Did you ever deal with that in the NFL?
Doug Gottlieb
Oh, you'd be, you'd be shocked, Colin, how often that happens. Pretty much anywhere there is a wide receiver that has one of those personalities that's very demanding about how much they get the ball and all the things that go with it. And we've seen it a thousand times, inevitably in that first 15 play script, there's some place where he's going to get a touch. And the touch may not necessarily be because we think that's the best play. The touch is just so we don't have to listen to him complain on the sideline in the first quarter until the game gets going, and it's disappointing. The challenging thing for San Francisco is they've got a young quarterback. So young quarterbacks are even under more pressure in the huddle by guys like that. Hey, give me the ball. Give me the ball. Get me the ball. Where when you've got an established veteran, whether it's Stafford or Brady or take your pick, those guys, those guys can actually calm the huddle down and calm guys like that down and not feel the same pressure to force the ball to him like they obviously were trying to do last night.
Eric Mangini
So it's interesting. I think the biggest mistake you can make in this league, you have to know who to pay. But because quarterbacks are the highest paid, when you pay a B2B plus quarterback, A plus money, Dallas, you're trapped. I'll have no problem paying Lamar Jackson then or Josh Allen Mahome, no problem. But you can't go B plus to A. You can overpay for a right tackle, but you're not paying a right tackle 60 million bucks a year. I look at Purdy's numbers. We put these up earlier as a fourth quarter quarterback in his career. The numbers don't lie. What we first saw from Mahomes was trailing or leading. He was the best quarterback in the world late. Brock Purdy isn't. I can't give him $55 million. I would rather give franchise tag Darnold for one year and get 40 million and live for another day. What do you do with Purdy?
Doug Gottlieb
Well, it's really hard because look at Dallas. Not only did they sign Dak the first time, but then they doubled down on it here this past offseason. And I think Jerry was trying to figure out whether or not he really wanted to make that commitment. He waited and then it cost him even more. And the problem that you run into is what are your alternatives? And San Francisco has done a good job to some degree. When they went and got Garoppolo, obviously that worked out for a little bit of time, but then they tried to solve the problem in the draft and that's terrible. And that's terrible in a historic way. To some degree. How bad that trade was for Tre and Brock comes in and saves him. So what's your alternative in terms of getting that quarterback and maybe Sam? A short term answer is okay, but they're trying to find a longer term answer. And the thing is they don't really have to do Brock's contract this offseason. They've got him for another year. He may not like it, but they still have him on their contract for another year.
Eric Mangini
Yeah. So I have this opinion that sometimes the Green Bay packers have a coaching opening. You can go get A scheme guy. He didn't have to have a history as a culture guy because their culture is good. But if you're the Chargers and you're broken after Brandon Staley or, you know, you're the Lions, you go get Harbaugh Campbell, bigger than life, physical presence. They're culture guys. They're not scheme wizards, Green Bay scheme works and Matt's great as he develops into a guy that can change a culture. I look at the Bears, Eric, Mike Vrabel a tough. He's kind of Mike Tomlin tough. No nonsense, no bs. Doesn't he feel like the fit with the Bears?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, now I'm a little biased because I really love Mike Vrabel. I think. I think not only is he one of the smartest guys that I've ever coached from a player perspective, the type of recall that Mike Vrabel had as a player and the things that he was able to do, not just in terms of his position, but in terms of everybody else's position to help me out. The defense was incredible from a coaching perspective. So now to have him as a coach bringing that same sort of intelligence and perspective, but also to have the legitimacy of being a former player, I think that helps a lot. And then he's had success as a head coach. So you're not going to go through all the learning curves that you have with the new head coach. Look, I think Mike is a great fit, whatever opportunity he's going to get, and people should be trying to get him in the mix. And for him, it would be a great situation because I think Caleb Williams has a great future.
Eric Mangini
Yeah, I really like him. What would you do? Similarly, I think he'd be a great fit with the Jets. But I would say, Mike, there's too much. I think actually Rex Ryan kind of kind of works there in a way. You know, he knows Woody. Do the jets have a perfect answer? I mean, what do you. What do you do? You got Aaron, whereas the Bears have a young quarterback need to fix the culture. They got some pieces. The jets have some pieces. But the quarterback situation is, you know, as you have detailed, is beyond high maintenance. Now, what do you do with that situation?
Doug Gottlieb
Well, you've got to. You've got to be honest and objective in the off season and look at it, because he's going to cost you a lot of money if he's not there. So. So whoever you bring in, can you sit down, have a conversation with Aaron and have a strong enough head coach to say, this is the way we're Going to do it. If you want to be part of that, that's great. If you don't want to be part of that, go ahead and retire so we don't have to eat all of his dead money and force him to make a decision. But you got to get a young quarterback, and I think a young quarterback with Aaron could be a positive thing in the sense that when Zach Wilson went there, he didn't have anybody to look up to from an experience standpoint. Now, you don't necessarily want some of the other traits that Aaron brings to the table, but I don't think you just throw it away without really studying it, analyzing it, and see if there's some way to get something positive out of this. A guy that I like in New York is Aaron Glenn. Aaron Glenn played for us at the Jets. He's been part of that Detroit program. He's a former player and very successful. He's tough. So it's a nice mix. It's a new head coach, different from Vrabel, but he's a guy with experience in New York as a player, and he brings a mentality from Detroit that New York really needs.
Eric Mangini
Yeah, it's good seeing you coach. You know, you're in New York, it's like you're like a coach. You're our coach at FS1, and I love having you on the show. And I'm taking your Browns to possibly upset the Chiefs this weekend.
Doug Gottlieb
I don't. I don't think that's bad. I don't think that's bad. That with the Jameis Winston show is fun to watch. The Bronze do a better job than you think at putting pressure on the quarterback. Mahomes has been hit a ton and they. And look, they're excited in Cleveland with James. He's the antithesis of what they were dealing with. DeSean Watson.
Eric Mangini
That's right.
Doug Gottlieb
People love Jamis with all his flaws. He loves Cleveland. Cleveland loves him. It's going to be exciting one way or the other. And to go have a chance to upset Kansas City in Cleveland this time of year. I like it.
Eric Mangini
If the Browns beat the Chiefs, I don't care what your schedule is. Get on a flight and go sit next to Nick Wright. Monday. I'll pay to watch it.
