Welcome back to the show. Hope you had a great weekend. Great Father's Day weekend. We're excited about this week because the party continues broadcasting live from Vegas on Friday. So tune in action packed night tonight. So pumped. And we're pumped for our next guest. Guys. Again, Kavino and Rich broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studio. And when you only have two hours of greatness, you only make time for the goats.
Rich
That's how I look at man. Hey, and by the way, we are streaming this all live on the fox Sports Radio YouTube page, the YouTube channel. Let's welcome the goat. He announced his major return to the Nathan's hot dog eating contest. Joey Chestnut, everybody. There he is, our guy. What's up Joey?
Joey Chestnut
Good to see you guys again.
Rich
Good to see you always, man.
Cavino
Hell yeah. So huge announcement and that's why we brought you here. He's back 16 time. Nathan's hot dog eating champion. Going for 17. He holds an eight year winning streak from 07 to 14. He holds the record with 7,600 hot dogs in what, 10 minutes.
Rich
I look at all the championship belts behind you, Joey. First of all, got to ask. Well, first of all, Good to see you. Second of all, how easy was this to get done? Because we talked last year and it didn't end up the way we wanted.
Joey Chestnut
It absolutely didn't end the way we wanted to or expected. But it's, it's been a little bit of work, but it's. We. Yeah, we took some communicating and last year communication broke down and we all kind of. It. Good things don't happen when you're not talking. So this year I think we, we. I saw you right around Super Bowl. Yeah. Yeah, it's. Man, it. Like almost immediately after that, we started really talking and it just took a while to get. For them to be comfortable with the things that, that I, that were bothering them last year and for me to, you know, if we had to meet.
Cavino
In the middle, what was the hurdle, man? What was the issue that you guys had to overcome?
Joey Chestnut
There, there was, there was that issue with, with the plant. Plant based food. So they, we ended up making a deal where, you know what? I, I can still do Meatless Mondays and, and promote another brand, but I'm, I'm, I'm gonna be. I've always been.
Danny G
Dude.
Joey Chestnut
Yeah. Nathan's hot dogs are 100. The only hot dogs I was promoting. So there's not gonna be any confusion. I'm not gonna work with. I never wanted to eat plant based hot dogs on the fourth of July. So there's. We just clarified some things and we. Yeah, dude, I'm back.
Cavino
Well, the competition.
Rich
Yes.
Cavino
He's so back. The competition needs you. Last year, Patrick Bertoletti won in your absence. Is he any threat this year? I think he had about 58 last year. Any threat to you and what's your view on him?
Joey Chestnut
Oh, he's a good guy from Chicago. I've known him since, man, he just turned 40. I'm 41. So we've known each other for years.
Rich
Years.
Joey Chestnut
But my biggest competitor is some crazy guy and he's. It's me. If I get in my own head, make mistakes, it's. But if I, If I'm doing everything right, I can. I'm gonna annihilate everybody.
Cavino
Oh, man.
Joey Chestnut
It's gonna be. It's gonna be. Yeah.
Cavino
So he's a good guy, but you're gonna annihilate beautiful chaos.
Rich
By the way, is he. You got to imagine. Is, Is Patrick mad that you're coming back?
Joey Chestnut
No. We're competitive eaters. We. If we're getting on a big stage, we want to compete against the best. So he, he felt like he did win he earned that win. He got a personal best last year. But he wants. He wants to compete against me, and he's not mad at all. We're going to be pushing each other hard.
Rich
Joey Chestnut, here on Kavito and Rich, FOX Sports Radio. Joey, you're allowed to brag if it's true. So let me ask you, are you more important to hot dog eating than Caitlin Clark is to the wnba? Because when. When big stars aren't part of it, it seems to like. You saw the WNBA ratings attendance when she was out for a few weeks. Joey Chestnut, what do you think?
Joey Chestnut
Caitlin Clark, have you. Have you met her? She is amazing. Dude, I'm. I'm. Yeah, I'm nothing better. She really is amazing. And I'm not bigger than hot dogs. People were still eating hot dogs on Fourth of July. I was eating hot dogs last year, even though I wasn't at Coney Island. But, you know, this is Nathan's Hot Dogs, Fourth of July. I'm happy to be back.
Rich
Joey, where do you meet Caitlin Clark? How does that happen? Like a conference of the goats? Like, what's going on? Where do you interact with Caitlin Clark?
Joey Chestnut
At a minor league baseball game in Indiana. And she was there, too. And the people from the stadium said, hey, she's in the suite next to you. You want to go say hi? She's absolutely. She's amazing. She's the best.
Cavino
I like the other story better. It's you, Caitlin, you're all in a room. Michael Geor, Mike Tyson, you know, all the goats just hanging out. Just hanging out as a goat conference. I like that story. What's a bigger comeback again? The headline. I'm back. I think I heard Jordan say that, right?
Rich
Yeah, I believe so.
Cavino
But Joey Chestnut has also said he's back. So what's the bigger comeback or headline tonight? Your comeback show, Hayes comeback Stanton or NBA Game 5? Because you're all over the news today.
Joey Chestnut
You know, tonight I'm going for the comeback. I want. I want the Pacers to get the win tonight. That'd be pretty awesome. This is. This was bound to happen. I'm just happy we did it. And now. Now I just got to eat some hot dogs.
Rich
Yeah. Joey, I'm not even BSing you. Is there. Is there a part of you that feels like in a country where everyone's at odds politically, everyone argues, Is there something about you being back that everyone could be like, that's awesome. Like, do you realize that there is probably a part of that that everyone's sort of pumped about? It sounds ridiculous, but I feel that it's weird.
Joey Chestnut
Yeah, I know. Hot dogs. I don't know. Politics. But it definitely feels like the people who follow me are from every corner of America, and I'm very happy.
Cavino
Well, yeah. There's nothing more American.
Joey Chestnut
Yeah.
Cavino
And you're the face of it. And to back Rich's point last year, not to take anything away from what Patrick did last year, but it just wasn't the same. There was a void there, and it didn't unite people the way. Way it normally does. I didn't hear much of a buzz about it other than, did you hear who won? Because Joey wasn't there. And I say that respectfully. So I think it does bring some fun excitement where the country needs it, to be honest.
Joey Chestnut
Yeah. Pat, I. I think if. If there's something on TV and it's a sport, people want to see the best in the world, and. And Pat's awesome. But on the Fourth of July, celebrating America, we want to see somebody go for a record, and I'm going to be doing it.
Cavino
I have a listener question from Mercer in Pittsburgh says the first time Joey Chestnut got to Coney island, he ate 32 hot dogs. Is that a fact? So you went from 32 to what, 76?
Joey Chestnut
Yeah, that's an absolute fact. Even that year. I remember my first practice that year, I only did 16 in practice. So it's just slowly building my tolerance and just making my body get comfortable, being uncomfortable, and that's the way I push it.
Cavino
He says, as an aspiring eater who ate 17 and a half in his first try, I'd like to know how exciting it is to get the call to be able to compete the first time and how it compares to being asked to come back again.
Joey Chestnut
Oh, it's amazing. It's, you know, the first. The first time I went to Coney Island, I was. I was literally a table ender. The. We call them the table enders, the people who have the lowest qualifiers. And I. I was so nervous. I went there. I was wearing Levi's.
Cavino
A table.
Joey Chestnut
I didn't give it that much thought at the time, but now it's. Yeah, it's. It's. It's a. It's an amazing stage on the Fourth of July.
Cavino
So a table lender is like the weak link of the table. Is that what that is? Kind of. I mean, you made it, but you're sort of the weakest guy. So that would be me when we're out to dinner and I order a steak. Well done, right?
Rich
Rage yeah, he's a team. And lender. Yeah, that's like a debate where the people that don't have a chance are always like the ends, you know? Yeah, it's.
Joey Chestnut
It's sort of like either the table enders or we call it the kiddie table.
Rich
Yeah.
Joey Chestnut
Where they put the kids.
Cavino
Right.
Rich
I gotta ask. Joey Chestnut hanging out on Kavino. Rich, he's back. Fourth of July. Nothing more American than hot dogs with Joey Chestnut.
Cavino
Every couple weeks, it's a big story.
Rich
Today I saw one of our pals on the Dan Patrick show. One of the behind the scenes guys did that 999 challenge at a ball game. Is that amateur? Do you think that's awesome that people are trying to do nine hot dogs, nine beers in nine innings. What's your take on that?
Joey Chestnut
It's amazing. I've been doing it. I came close to doing a 20, 20, 27, 27 and nine. But yeah, it's. Yeah, nine is a. It's. I think most real adults can do them and do it. Yeah, it's definitely. Especially these days, they'll serve the beers and cans. It's not even full pints. So it's definitely doable.
Cavino
Now, before we get your prediction, Joey Chestnut, we've heard the rumors, or maybe it's scientific fact, I don't know, that you lose, what, 30 minutes of life for every hot dog. Have you ever thought about that? Is there any truth to that? Because you've been eating, you've been taken back a lot for years now.
Joey Chestnut
I. Yeah, it wasn't 30 minutes. I think somebody said it was like maybe two minutes. And so if you calculate, I've ran the numbers and maybe it's like five years I've taken off. And you know what?
Rich
But for the glory, not a long time. All right.
Cavino
Hey, I like it.
Rich
Hey, Joey, as people get ready for the fourth in a couple weeks, is throwing hot dogs on the barbecue, on the grill the best way? Or you a boiled hot dog guy, if you had to pick your preference.
Joey Chestnut
Is this a joke? Really?
Rich
I mean, I gotta ask the great. Come on, dude.
Joey Chestnut
Boiled hot dogs, they're almost criminal. It's. And, you know, so for a long time ago, I was giving Costco a hard time about their hot dogs and say, actually, we don't boil them, we steam them. So boiling is even worse than steaming. But, yeah, it's. Dude. Yeah, you got to be on a grill, either flat top or griddle or grill. It's a. Dude, you got to get. It has to get that direct heat to get the fat and juices flowing. And it's. That's the way.
Rich
Joey, when you're not competitively eating, what is the proper way to have a dog on the 4th? What are you putting on it? Ketchup, mustard, relish, onions. Like, what's those New York City red onions? Like, what does Joey Chestnut do you if he's wanting to eat a hot dog for actual enjoyment?
Joey Chestnut
Oh, my God. I'm not married to one topping, so I get to go wherever my heart desires. But mostly raw onions and mustard. A good deli mustard.
Rich
Okay, that's.
Joey Chestnut
That's an easy go to. But I'll. I'll mess around. I love a good chili cheese dog. I was somewhere. I had a good Chicago dog recently, so it would just put everything on there.
Rich
What's your thoughts on the. What's your thoughts on the corn dog? I don't think we ever had. Do you like a corn dog or no?
Joey Chestnut
Well, corn dog, it's trouble. I've had some experiences where you bite into a corn dog and it's like, hotter. It ruins my mouth for like two days. So sometimes it's. It's very. I've never burnt my mouth on a hot dog, but a corn dog can be trouble in the deep fryer.
Rich
It's like a hot pocket. It could deceive you like a hot pocket in college, right?
Joey Chestnut
Yeah, it could be magma inside there.
Cavino
Hey, what's the aftermath like? I'm not talking bathroom antics. I'm talking recovery. What's it like the day after a major competition like this? Because you're putting your body through a lot, there's a lot of pressure. This is your big return. How long does it take for your body to get back to normal after this?
Joey Chestnut
It's. It takes two days to start feeling good, and it can. The day after can be really bad. If I got dehydrated it. So the weather in Coney, on Coney island, fourth of July, it's. It's sometimes oppressive heat and humidity. So those are the times where I go in knowing that it's going to take longer to recover.
Cavino
When you say bad, though, like, you bed. It's like a day in bed. You're just laying there.
Joey Chestnut
I'm lethargic.
Cavino
Yeah, I'm.
Joey Chestnut
I'm more bloated. I'm trying to take in more liquids and it's just. I'm getting more bloated. Even though it's. Yeah, it's just hard. It's harder on the body when. When I'm at all Dehydrated, so. But I learned my body a little better. But it's. If once I get. Get moving, I start sweating, smell like a hot dog. It's the meat. Sweats start coming and I. Yeah, it takes. It takes a good two days. You feel close to normal.
Cavino
And speaking of your body and recovery, do you have ring rust? I know you missed a year, but you never stop competing. I know that's your lifestyle. I know it's what you do, and you eat all sorts of things competitively.
Rich
But I love how you're ring rust. Comparing him to a fighter.
Cavino
Are you ready, man? Is the body ready? Are you ready? And what's your prediction? How do you see this panning out? Fourth of July weekend, when you said ring rust.
Joey Chestnut
My. My Britain, the gears were turning. I was like, where is he going with this?
Cavino
Yeah, I mean, it's been a year. You missed a year.
Joey Chestnut
This is. I. I've been really lucky. I did a couple contests already this year. I made a new world record with Baloney and in Knoxville, Tennessee. So I. I not annihilated my old record. So my body's ready. I'm. I feel good. It's going to be. Just gotta. Yeah, like I said, just eat some hot dogs, find my happy place.
Rich
I don't know. I may have eaten more bologna than Joan, than Joey at my grandmother's house in the 80s.
Cavino
Yeah. Baloney and ketchup.
Rich
Baloney sandwiches every day. Joey, continued success. I'm glad you're back. We're happy that you're back and always appreciate you giving Kavino Rich some time, brother.
Cavino
Appreciate you, man.
Joey Chestnut
Oh, great talking to you guys again.
Cavino
Thank you.
Rich
Joey Chestnut, the big return.
Cavino
It's not Shohei Ohtani. When you think about what brings Americans and America together, It's Joey Chestnut, 4th of July. My prediction. Patrick Bertoletti. Never heard of him. But Joey Chestnut's back.
Rich
All right, give me this. What's. What's your. Not over under. What's your point? What's your dog spread? Whoa.
Cavino
If you're.
Rich
What's your. What's your dog spread? How many does he beat second place by?
Cavino
Well, Joey. Joey's record is 76. Patrick won last year with 58. I think both guys improve. I think Joey breaks his own record. You heard the guy. He says the only one I'm competing with is myself. They're not looking over to see what the competition's doing. They're trying to beat their own personal records and do the best that they can. So my prediction is pain and Joey breaks it by one dog, 77 to Bertoletti, 60. I think Bertoletti really pushes. He gets 60 this year. Joey beats him by 17.
Rich
I think Chestnut brings it, but he's not going for his own record. I think he's going to ease his way back in.
Cavino
But, dude, he's trying to make a statement, bro. This is his big comeback.
Rich
I'm going to compare it to tonight's NBA Game five. OKC is favored by nine and a half. So I'm going to set the hot dog spread at nine and a half. Does Joey Chestnut beat second place by 10 dogs in two weeks?
Danny G
You just said hot dog.
Cavino
I'm saying yes. Yeah, he said hot dog spread.
Rich
Danny, what's your dog spread?
Danny G
Yeah, I'm. You know, I'm kind of with Rich. I feel like he's going to have to ease his way back in. I don't think he'll beat his personal record until the next Fourth of July.
Cavino
Okay. Like, you know, one year off, he's not the same. But you know what, Rich?
Danny G
It's like Michael Jordan coming back.
Cavino
I gotta ask you this. It's a lot like Michael Jordan come back.
Rich
We're having fun with it because Joey's a great guy, and it really is something so American. Fourth of July, Joey Chestnut, Nathan, Tony Island. Like, when he wasn't doing it, it did feel sort of whack.
Cavino
It felt empty.
Danny G
It did.
Cavino
But boiled hot dogs? What, are you kidding me? I agree. You would choose a boiled hot dog over a grilled hot dog?
Rich
Hey, ask clown. I like to throw them on the grill. But how many times have you made hot dogs for your kids and your mom? Or someone threw in a bun?
Danny G
Who likes that?
Cavino
What do you like? Do you like boiled Brussels sprouts?
Rich
Brussels sprouts? No, I do not.
Cavino
That's what I mean.
Rich
But, Danny G, you're telling me as a kid you didn't have boiled hot dogs? I mean, didn't we all?
Cavino
But it doesn't mean you didn't like it.
Rich
You broke at the grill every time you went.
Danny G
Sure. No. Sure was different than a family grill. Cause that's when you were like, oh, this is what hot dogs are supposed to be like. And the Dodger dog, famously, at Dodger Stadium, one of the reasons why it went downhill a little bit is they started boiling some of them rather than grilling all of them.
Rich
Kavino. What about when you go to New York City? You got a great hot dog. Like Rob Parker would say, you get that the red onions on the hot Dog. And that's a boiled New York City hot dog.
Cavino
What up, Sam? All right, get this, guys.
Danny G
So next year is America's 250th anniversary. 1776 to 2026. His record is what, 76 hot dogs? Yeah, it'll be the 4th of July, the 250th anniversary of next year. What if he breaks that record of 76 on America's 250th birthday?
Cavino
So maybe he won't break his own record.
Danny G
He can still win it without breaking.
Cavino
Purposefully to bring the heat next year.
Danny G
I'm seeing a lot of synergy here. I'm seeing a lot of things syncing up.
Cavino
I feel you. 16 time champion. Bound to be your 17 time. Nathan's hot dog eating champion is back. What a day of returns. And you only get the legends here on Cavino and Rich now. Danny G
I don't got it.
Cavino
Put your electronic devices down and pick your sports knowledge.
Rich
It's CNR's last one standing. Last one standing.
Danny G
All right, I have four categories ready to go and if needed, a tiebreaker. Each contestant gets five seconds to stay alive in the round. If you run out of time or you answer incorrectly, Iowa. Sam will escort you out with his big bad buzzer. You do not want to hear that.
Rich
Not the buzzer.
Danny G
We keep battling until you are the last one standing. If you win two of the rounds, you're the top dog. Here are the contestants. Seven time winner, Steve Cavino right over there.
Cavino
All right, let's go for eight to his right.
Danny G
Ten time winner, Rich Davis.
Rich
You will forever be stuck at The Tom Brady 7.
Danny G
Rich Davis boils his hot dogs in for 29 time winner, Dan Byers, the great Steve Decaga.
Rich
Hey, Steve, it's been a minute.
F
Thank you.
Danny G
And watch out, guys. Steve has a pretty brilliant sports Mind.
F
So I know I'm a zero time winner. Eternally excited.
Danny G
Better come with it today. All right, let's go to the studio lines. He's playing for one of our stainless steel C and R swiggy water bottles. Steve and Orlando.
Rich
Steve.
Tom Yamas
Steve.
Cavino
Wow.
Danny G
Two Steve's playing three Steve. Three Steve's.
Rich
Well, Steve's a popular name again because of Minecraft. Right. Steve's not a chicken.
F
Hey, Steve.
Danny G
Steve in Orlando. What you do for a living there?
Joey Chestnut
I actually do food inspection.
Tom Yamas
Oh.
Danny G
Oh, all right.
F
They still exist.
Danny G
Very important.
Tom Yamas
How are the hot dogs that make.
Rich
One of my favorite. One of my favorite Kirby enthusiasm episodes is when Larry saw the owner change the inspection rating.
Danny G
Yes.
Rich
It's a good one.
Danny G
All right. By the way, spot is the fact check. So much a lot of pressure on him.
Tom Yamas
So much stress.
Danny G
When I say your name, the clock is gonna begin. Here's the first category. Bigger wood. The biggest wood. You have five seconds to name a player who leads the MLB in home runs. In 2025. We will take the top 20. All right. MLB player leads the majors right now in home runs. Covina are going to be up first as soon as the timer starts.
Cavino
Now, Cal Raleigh.
Tom Yamas
Cal Raleigh, number one.
Danny G
Number one, Rich.
Rich
I mean, let's get the easy ones out the way.
Tom Yamas
Aaron Judge tied for number one with.
Danny G
26 to Sager Ohtani.
Tom Yamas
Shohei Ohtani, number. Thank you. 25. Just a lot.
Danny G
Steve in Orlando.
Rich
Beavers.
Cavino
Let's see.
Tom Yamas
Yep. Number 15 with 15.
Danny G
Nice.
Cavino
Covina polar bear. Pete Alonso.
Tom Yamas
Pistol Pete. Number nine with 17.
Danny G
Rich.
Rich
I'll go. Freduardo Freeman.
Tom Yamas
Freduardo Friedman. Not on the list.
Rich
Wait, Freddy doesn't have 15.
Danny G
Desegro.
Rich
I'm out early. Geez.
F
Kyle Tuck.
Tom Yamas
Kyle Tucker. Not on the list.
Danny G
Steven Orlando.
Cavino
Bets.
Tom Yamas
Mookie. Not on the list.
Danny G
Oh, that means Covino wins that one.
Cavino
Can I give one Schwarzer?
Danny G
Yeah, go for it.
Tom Yamas
Yeah. Schwarzer's on the list with 22. Let's see.
Danny G
Soderstrom from the A's.
Joey Chestnut
Yeah.
Tom Yamas
Corbin Carroll has 20. Yeah. Crow Armstrong has 18.
Rich
On the Cubs PCA. I mean, that's the one I hate the Most.
Tom Yamas
Taylor Ward, 18. Yeah, you might as well.
Cavino
I'll tell you what. The chances of Steve winning have just increased.
Rich
Lindor is not at 15 doors.
Tom Yamas
No, he's at the bottom.
Rich
He's at the bottom.
Tom Yamas
Yeah.
Rich
Danny G. I was going to say pca. Who's tearing up for the Cubs. You know when fans don't like to talk about when the player got away, The Mets. Let him go for like a bag of peanuts. And. And you know when you always watch that player your team gave up for nothing.
F
Oh, yeah, he's the PCA trade. Not as bad as the SGA trade.
Rich
Yes, those are both equally terrible, I think. Seems to say.
Danny G
Let me give four number one picks for Bane. All right, second category here. What's your five year plan not to die? You have five seconds to name an MLB team who has the most wins over the past five years. MLB team with the most wins over the past five Years. We'll take the top 16. Steve and Orlando, you're going to be up first as soon as the clock starts right now.
Rich
Dodgers.
Tom Yamas

Danny G

F
They split.
Rich
So is Manny Ramirez on this list?
Tom Yamas
Manny Ramirez is on the list at number 19.
Cavino
She.
Danny G
We have a four way tie, which means we're going to come back after the update and have overtime, which is going to be our.
Tom Yamas
Yeah, yeah.
Danny G
Our tie break.
Rich
I love overtime.
Tom Yamas
The only one you missed in the top five was pool holes.
F
I hate that number two side out of mind.
Danny G
Yeah. Steve and Orlando. Hang on for us, okay?
F
And each team gets a possession in overtime.
Rich
Yes, we all get possession.
F
All right, we got the Chohei Otani starting on the mound tonight for the LA Dodgers. Now, he's just the opener. Don't get too excited. He might only throw an inning for all we know. But the Dodgers are hosting San Diego in The start of a four game series, Louisiana first in the NL west two games over the idle Giants. Padres are three back. Ohtani has not pitched in a game in nearly two years. Houston has won five straight. They're at the A's. In one of the late games. Houston pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. Was scheduled to start tonight. He goes on the aisle with a sprained foot. Instead. Boston has won five in a row. It has a late game at Seattle. The Red Sox last night traded DH Rafael Devers to San Francisco. By the way, Devers had a large voting lead for the All Star Game at DH in in the AL but was just traded to the nl. So now he's behind Shohei Ohtani.
Rich
That's so weird. So hold on now who's, who's he screwing over in the nl?
Danny G
No.
F
Second?
Rich
No, but I'm saying so is because he's a. What would he be a third baser in dh? What would he be in the nl?
F
Most definitely dh. So Ohtani is the leading vote getter overall in the NL and Aaron Judd's the leading vote getter overall in the al. And starting up shortly, we got Philadelphia at Miami. Phils have won four in a row. Of course Game five of the NBA Finals is tonight. We're still a couple hours away from that. Oklahoma. Oklahoma City hosts Indiana series tied at 2. WNBA is off Stanley cup game 6 is Tuesday. And at the FIFA Club World cup, Chelsea beat LAFC 2 nothing in Atlanta. And we had a no hitter pitched at the College baseball World Series. Arkansas eliminates Murray State 3 nothing. Gage Wood struck out 19. The only other no hitters at the College World series occurred in 1950 and 1960. But back to you.
Cavino
Thank you. Steve to Sager.
Rich
Been a minute. We got overtime in last one standing and we'll get a get you hyped up for tonight's NBA Finals. Plus the return of Shohei. We'll get to that all next right here on Fox Sports Radio. Wow.

Danny G
It'S a four way tie and last one standing today.
Cavino
Oh man.
Danny G
Steve in Orlando. Let's get him back on the line. Steve. Yeah. Three, Steve. All right, tiebreak. The way this works, no multiple choice. It's whoever comes closest. Just buzz in with your name to go first. And I'll give you guys a few seconds to think about this little math involved in your heads.
Cavino
Oh, no.
Danny G
In 22 seasons, how many total touchdowns did Tom Brady throw? Regular season and postseason, 22 seasons. Total TDs thrown by Tom Brady. Tom Brady.
Rich
Okay, I'm using my calculator. I'm not looking it up, just so you know. Calculate. All right, hold on. This Steve is gonna now. Okay.
Danny G
Yep. Steve in Orlando, you can go first. What's your guess?
Rich
87. I'm sorry, what?
Cavino
In 22 seasons?
Danny G
Yeah. 22 seasons. Total touchdowns.
Joey Chestnut
Counting playoffs.
Danny G
Yeah.
Rich
How many touchdowns in 22 years? Not 22 games. 22 years. Oh, my bad, my bad.
F
88. Then how about this?
Danny G
Steven Orlando. You wait, we'll let you guess in a second.
F
Who really wants to go 522?
Danny G
522 for to Sager. Okay, who wants to go next?
Rich
I am going to say. 759.
Danny G
Okay. Covino.
Cavino
807.
Danny G
806. Okay. And now Steven Orlando.
Joey Chestnut
843.
Danny G
The actual retail number is 737 touchdowns. Rich is the closest. 759.
Cavino
Pretty close, Rich.
Danny G
Yeah. Not a bad guess.
Cavino
Wait a minute.
F
But everybody went over. Do I win both showcases?
Danny G
No, it's just whoever comes closest. Great job by all you guys. And double talk Davis. The question is, since it went to ot, do you still want to send your, your Swiggy to Steve in Orlando?
Rich
Of course I do, Steve. We'll send you the Swiggy and we'll throw in a koozie because you're a nice guy, right?
Cavino
All right.
Joey Chestnut
I appreciate you guys, man.
Rich
Appreciate you.
Cavino
But great battle. And of all the Steve's battling the one Rich, the one Dick wins. So congrats to Dicky David with the wow and great playing with you, Steve to say you're. Great to see you man.
F
And you.
Cavino
You know, for people new to Covino and Rich, we were on the air quite often with Steve Desager on our weekend show. So it's great to see him here hanging out with us today.
Rich
So it's like an ex girlfriend we haven't seen in a while.
Cavino
It is. Hey, Steve, do you think about it?
F
There was no breakup.
Rich
I know.
F
Aside from that, it's just like, you.
Rich
Know, he Just moved. He moved to another town. He was our junior high girlfriend that just left town. Thanks, Steve.
Cavino
That was a nice battle, though.
Rich
You know what? I did the simple math. I just did 22 seasons and I just averaged 35, and that was 770. And I said, let me knock off like 10.
Cavino
So I'm not good at math, or else I may have had a chance. All right, so what do you want to wrap with Rich?
Rich
I know what I want to wrap with.
Cavino
Raphael Devers.
Rich
No, I want to rap with a stat or maybe a rule that not everyone knew about that Danny G. Just showed us during the break.
Cavino
Well, it's the simple rule that if Shohei's pitching starting tonight and he pitches about two winnings or so, he's able to jump right back into the game as a dh.
Rich
Well, if he. Because here's the thing. He's the only person in Major League Baseball now. The DH is optional. We got to remember that until a few years ago, in the National League League, the pitcher hit. In the American League, the DH took the pitcher's hitting spot. I know I'm giving you, like, baseball 101, like you're 5 years old, but let me follow.
Cavino
Yeah.
Rich
When they did the universal dh, the DH took over that pitcher's hitting spot. But you could, if you really wanted to say, I still want my pitcher to hit. They weren't. No one ever said, you can't have your pitcher hit. It. Just why would you ever opt for your pitcher who's going to bat 120 right to hit?
Danny G
That's why we don't think about this.
Rich
Yeah, show him. Jorge being the one exception to this will hit. But he could stay the DH the whole game. It's irregardless of which isn't a word. Regardless of where he is in the field or not even playing a position, he could hit the whole game.
Cavino
That's the beauty of Shohei Ohtani. So he's in the game. It's not like once he's pulled, he's out.
Rich
Like, you forget the dh.
Cavino
So talk about getting your money's worth. This is the game to go see him hit and pitch.
Rich
The DH didn't take the bat out of the pitchers. No, the. The dhs said, hey, you have a chance. If you're going to bet nine, who do you want to bet? Your pitcher or one of your position players. And every team is always going to say one of our position players at dh. Unless your pitcher, Shohei Ohtani, he would bat. But since it's not the traditional National League pitching rules that DH could hit the whole game, regardless of whether they're in the field defensively or not.
Joey Chestnut
Yeah.
Cavino
But you know, we're going to see some history in the making. First time on the mound as a Dodger. You just hope as a baseball fan that everything goes smoothly because there's a difference between warming up and and practice games and simulation versus really putting it out there, giving it your all on the big league mound, pitching all out for the first time and what, since 2023?
Rich
Yeah.
Cavino
So you just hope everything goes smoothly just as a baseball fan because he's one of the. The best baseball has, if not the best.
Danny G
Don't hurt your arm. Don't hurt your arm.
Cavino
Yeah, right. I mean, it's scary. It really is, just for any fan. But it's the big return tonight of not only Giancarlo Stanton and as we said, Joey Chestnut who was here earlier, he's back. But Shohei Otani on the mountain night versus the Padres. So quite the battle.
Rich
Division battle. Enjoy that. Enjoy your NBA Finals Game five and we'll see you back here tomorrow. And don't forget this Friday if you got a chance and you're in the area, Vegas circa our big pool party. See you there and we'll see you tomorrow. Arrivederci, baby.
Cavino
See you in the promised land.
Rich
Goodbye, everybody.
Cavino
Thanks again, guys.
