I'm Covino, that is Rich and we be rocking out. Let's go. Hour two of Super Fun Time, also known as the world famous Covino and Rich show going to be in Vegas broadcasting live next Friday the 20th at Circa. So hope to see you there. Details at Covine Ornrich. And by the way Rich, before we get into this action packed hour of greatness, speaking of shows, I'm Gonna be on a new show premiering this weekend. So set the dvr. I'm gonna be on your television Pawn Stars. You're selling your old Dom Mattingly mustache clippings. I'm selling. I'm finally selling. I have an appointment with Chumlee and Rick and all the mustache hair experts that are gonna be there. I'm sorry, you're Derek G. Are stirrups. You're gonna be on Pawn Stars? No, I'm gonna be on a new show, brand new series on the History Channel called Hazardous History, hosted by the one and only. Hey, let me tell you something, Cunningham. Hi. Henry Winkler, the Fonz and your boy Covino is one of the main contributors. I'll be on the first episode and I'll be on some episodes more than others throughout the season. So I saw the trailer for this Hazardous History. Like how people used to smoke on airplanes and play with lawn darts and high. Yes, yeah, exactly. People used to use asbestos as fake snow around the holidays all the time. Nice. Hazardous history. Set the DVR 10, 9 Central this Sunday on the History Channel. What do you know about all that, by the way? Everything. Everything. I look at you and I figure your music knowledge and Yankee knowledge and that's it. It's funny you say that because I look at you and I realize I don't talk about any of those things. Because you know nothing about it. That's how I feel about it. I feel like I'm wasting my breath in air talking about anything other than. I get it. Sports with Rich. You don't want to waste your intellect on me. Yeah, because you never. You look at me cross eyed like you don't know what I'm talking about. So that's Rich Davis. Oh, what? I'm cap of Hazardous History with Henry Winkler and it's my fourth series. Fourth different series I've been a part of. So look out for me. And my favorite place to be is right here on Fox Sports Radio with you guys. And we're getting ready for midweek Major and Mike's Wednesday words of wisdom. By the way, any final thoughts on Roman Anthony's good looking sister? Do you think it's distracting fun for the family? Her Instagram tally has doubled. Like, is there more than doubled? Is there something there or no? Or do you think the family gets a kick out of it or like, oh, your sister got the biggest. He's a big leaguer, so it's not like he suffers from this at all. It's like the weenie in high school who has the hot sister because he's always the weenie with the hot sister. This kid's in the big leagues. It doesn't really matter. It's just, you know, they're a blessed family at this point. It's like, well, they're the big leaguer kid and they have a hot daughter. Yeah, it's like at the NFL draft when there's always like a hot mom or hot sister that just happens to be cheering on. It's like, wait a minute. Pause. Who's that? Roman Anthony also smacked a double yesterday, drove in a run and his mom was there all teary eyed. And it was a nice moment. So we're seeing some young superstars called up really early. These are really young kids. Between that kid from Kansas City or like I said, Jack Gaglioni, Denzel Clark of the A's. Denzel Clark been up in the bigs for three weeks. This Roman Anthony. Kids, baseball's having a moment. The superstars, the young kids. We're going to get back to the stage where you could name a few players on each team. And I call it the old starting lineup days where when you were a kid in the 80s or 90s, you can name a team and you knew the star players. There was a minute in baseball where you're like, I don't really know many guys. That's true, man. And I love every second of it. By the way side story to piggyback, what Rich is saying is as we see low ratings in the NBA Finals, I imagine, right. Even though it's been a great battle so far, I'm not knocking the NBA, but MLB's ratings are really skyrocketing, which is crazy because they're losing that deal with espn. So we're seeing the MLB ratings really going through the roof with all these young superstars. Baseball's on the rise. NBA on the downside. Some people say, hey, small markets in the playoffs. Your boy Clay Travis said it's the woke nature of the NBA. Did you see that, Danny? Yeah. It's probably a better possibility that it's two small market teams, but we'll see what happens in Indiana tonight. I think the Pacers are going to show up. This is going to turn into a long series. I think. I think it's the fact that the fact that it's at Indiana is a great setting for game three. Being that it's one one, because if it was two. Oh, and it's. I don't know, then they're. Then there, they need it. But they could split in Indiana. And sure, I also think this, that it's not necessarily this small market for the median, you know, aspect of it, but it also just tells you on how much the superstars matter and may tell you a little bit about SGA on if he is that guy that will transcend. I know that there's been a lot of talk lately about it and I feel that it's kind of been fake because there hasn't been a lot to talk about. But I think this tells you a little bit where if it was Cleveland with LeBron, we're obviously watching because it's LeBron for that aspect. The schedule hasn't helped either. Just a lot of time between games. But I agree with everything you just said, Dan, and I agree with other people that have said, you know, you can't talk out of both sides of your mouth. You can't say we don't want these super teams, these major market teams. Rich is a real wiener. Maybe you can talk out of both sides of your mouth, but you can't say we don't want these super mega teams with stars in big markets. And then when you get the two homegrown small market teams that aren't paying a luxury tax, you're like, these teams stay. Yeah, I agree with you 100%. It's like, what do you want? Do you know who they're giving a lot of the credit in the mlb besides all the obvious young superstars we mentioned? Not the Yankees. No, they credit. It starts with superstars. Yeah, it really starts with, well, who is the draw? And it's Shohei Ohtani, worldwide superstar. And Aaron Judge, who is a guy that moves the needle. Shohei Ohtani, dude, when he gets his last that bat in at a game, the stadium clears because they're all there to see that guy. And it's happening in every stadium. It's like, like it starts raining or something. Everybody get, what's up Aaron? Judicious bat. All right, I'm going to go beat the traffic. They all leave. All right. Because of the popularity they've created, all these other young superstars are getting that extra shine. So baseball is capitalizing. I feel like it was about a decade, maybe eight years since I last just went to a regular season baseball game with the Dodgers a few months ago. And when Ohtani came up, I had my phone up in all four of his @ bats. So the same thing you're saying with Judge, like the same thing with Ohtani. I was the same feeling. Just to say you saw it right yeah, look at my phone. I got two people at bat that I snapped a photo of Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. I was at the Mets Dodgers game and no joke, I did Soto and Ohtani and then there's the Lindor's of the world. So I mean not to sleep on the other superstars. It feels like the Pacers need Halliburton to have another big clutch moment tonight to show some star power. Well yeah. What we're seeing in the NBA is the I guess the beginning or the start of what could be could be superstars in the future. So hey, I'm excited about games like when I play re softball. When am I. I'm don't my last at bat. Like the eight. The eight people just leaves. Yeah, I get everybody leaves. Hey, let me ask you this before we get to Mike words of wisdom which will be quick. I I do want to ask. I was Sam, you're a huge Caitlyn Clark fan and she's been on the IL which has really done damage to the WNBA ratings and ticket prices, viewership ticket prices. Like it was like hundreds of dollars. Now you could get it. I think they pay you to go to the games now. Yes, that's true. Not true, but I think it's like three bucks. You could get a cup of coffee. You could. Caramel macchiato costs more. You get a bobblehead. Is Caitlin Clark still a bigger star in that state if the Pacers win the NBA finals, man. Is Halliburton a bigger star than Caitlin Clark if the Pacers find the way to win? He's done some incredible things, man. I don't know. It's a tough one. Um, I would say no only because she's someone responsible for bringing an attention attention to an entire league. I think in that if you're just keeping it in the state of Indiana though, everyone's minds are going to be on the Pacers and on Halliburton and Siakam and all their great players. And I think in the moment for at least the summer because their season's just getting started. So I think it'll be. Are you having a hot Siakam summer? Is that what a hot Seacum summer? That's so stupid. All right, well hey, enjoy your NBA finals tonight and get well better Caitlin Clark for the sake of a whole league that is depending on you. It seems to be. But let's do it. Mike's words of wisdom. We do this every Wednesday. Big Mike who runs this place, listen closely. He shares his words of wisdom. You repeat them verbatim, word for word, and you win a Covino and Rich Swiggy. 877-99-FOX. Listen and call. Now it's time for the guy that runs this place. Just for clarification, guys, Big Mike does not run this place. He is not in char of everything. He has no power over really anybody here. He does not run this place. It's Big Mike's words of wisdom on a Wednesday. Patience is what you have when there are too many witnesses. That's so easy. But I'm trying to figure out what it. I don't get. I'm trying to figure out what it means. I. I know what it means. Like you're. When you're by yourself and no one's around, you have a short fuse. Yes. When. When there's a lot of people around you don't embarrass yourself having a short fuse. Rich was born with a short fuse. So let's be fair. That was a good one. They call him old Shortwick Davis over here. Shortwick Davis. Yeah. That was a good one, man. All right, so we're not even. Is it Inchworm you had was the interim. Davis was a good one. Cnr. We're not even going to need the five contestants, right? Because I'm sure the first contestant is going to get this. Yeah, Whoever the lucky duck is that calls in first and repeats Mike's words of wisdom verbatim, you'll get a free Cavino Enrich Swiggy. And while we wait for that, let me remind everyone one more time. A week from Friday 20th June. Oh, boy, we're going to be having so much fun. Poolside live broadcast at Stadium. Swim at Circa, then a Friday night party at the Rooftop Lounge. Yeah, I'm excited about that Saturday Atomic Golf with a brunch. Hold on. There's a whole fireworks spectacular that Friday night from the Rooftop. Who'd you hire, the Gucci Brothers? Yeah, and I think Robin Thicke is actually performing outside that night. So big party night in Vegas at Circa. So we're bringing that party to you on Fox Sports Radio if you can't make it, but we'd love to see out there. All right, let's go to the first guy through. Yeah, this should be easy. On line one with John in Idaho Falls. John, do you think you know Mike's words of wisdom? I do. Wait for your music. That's going to make you sound very smart. Here we go. Patience is what you have when there are too many witnesses. That's a winner. That's a winner. Oh, I finally get it. Like, if you lose your cool, you'll be. You'll kill everyone. Okay, Breezy John. Okay, we're gonna mail a swiggy outsi there in Idaho Falls. All right, that's interesting from Mike, because as you get older, you have no patience. My dad goes to get a haircut, and if there's two people sitting there ahead of him, he's like, all right, guy, I'm leaving two people. Yeah, I'm serious. My dad will come back, and he's got like, you know, the hair's all grown out like Ben Franklin on the sides, like, dad, I thought you were gonna get a haircut. He's like, yeah, there was too many people there. But then it goes in reverse. Once you have another little kid cove, I hope you join Rich and I with, you know, another toddler in your life. Yeah, no, I hope so too. Just for perspective, I can't wait for Camino to change diapers again one day. Care Koa's new thing. He loves markers and colored markers. He's been coloring with. He's lefty and righty, so he's got a colored marker in both hands. And this morning he was coloring his tongue. I thought you were gonna say the couch, because my kid has colored our couch. So that's why they make him non toxic, man. You know, it's funny, speaking about patience, I shouldn't have given him my black marker. Patience. He or she who masters patience could mast or anything. And you're. You're right about how better quote than Mike's. We go through stages of patience. And you could talk about this honestly, you could tie anything into sports because a fan base. If you can master the patience of a rebuild and what it takes to win, you gotta trust the process as a. Yeah, sometimes trusting the process doesn't work. But patience is very difficult in sports, in marriages with your kids at your job, patience is a lost virtue. These days, no one has patience. Especially when with people you don't know, you have. People have, like, no patience. It's a prime. It's a prime now. Society, we want everything next day, if not the same day. Dude, we want everything on demand. We want a haircut now. Like, we want everything now. And as you get older, it's even more of that. I get aggravated. The other day, the Starbucks mobile app was down, and I'm like, you expect me to go in order and wait five minutes for my coffee? How many times have you changed the brand on Your Amazon order because you see that the one you're looking at is not gonna come till Saturday. You're like, Saturday, I want it tomorrow. Spot was ordering some of the stuff for our convention in Vegas. And you're right. If it doesn't, if it's not here tomorrow, you're like, this can't. So patience is what you have when there are too many witnesses. Patience is what you have when there are too many witnesses. Interesting. All right, let's make a declaration right now. Mike needs to make these harder and longer. Yes, agreed. But I will say one thing about patience. When it comes to patience. What would Inchwater Davis know about that? You would say how your dad wouldn't wait at the barbershop. My dad doesn't wait anywhere. Like you would think he would just chop it up talking about the Yankees or a fight or something. No way. If the barber chair's not ready, my dad could have a physical ailment. And if there's people in the waiting room at the doctor like, dad, why didn't you stay? Too many people in the waiting room. I ain't got time for that. If it's my time to go, if it's time to go, it's time to go. Is that, is that why elderly people run through stop signs? Because they're just like, I'm not stopping. Time is ticking away now. Dude. Sam, my mother in law, if we try to go out for breakfast, if there's like, if, if we go to IHOP and they're like, ah, that'll be a party of eight. You know, grandparents, kids, everyone, man, that will give us like 20 minutes, huh? Unacceptable. And then you drive 20 minutes. You wait, you waste 30 minutes looking for a new spot. 20 minutes and you go, you're on like spot number four. And you're like, hey, Cindy, we would have been sitting. So yeah. Patience, patience. The end. Now, coming up, we are going to talk about wasted talent in sports. You see it happen in baseball, football, basketball. That star player that spent one too many years on that bunk last place team. There's a guy in major league baseball now that you know what I'm calling it, he's getting the Jacob deGrom treatment. The run support is non existent. So we'll, we'll talk about wasted talent. And of course, coming up next, our buddy spot has midweek major all the stories you might have missed in the world of sports and entertainment. That's next right here on Fox Sports Radio. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no. Across the country, cops called this Taser the Revolution. But not everyone was convinced it was that simple. Cops believed everything that Taser told them. You know, I think it was Iowa Sam that said it was a lost virtue. What's wrong with Rich back there? Someone. Someone ripped in the studio. Someone cropped us. It in here and I haven't stepped foot in there all. All show and spot. Just walked around with lysol but like sprayed it a lot to the point where I just breathed in and I was like. And I love, like I'm sitting far in the corner and they blamed me for it. Like it could reach them from here. Yeah, I don't know. Well, anyway, thank you guys for hanging out with us. Stuck in a studio, you stank, ass beat and rich. If you think we stink, you're right. Jeez. Always happy to be hanging with you guys. Now we have more to get to wasted talent in life and in sports. And don't forget the fox Sports Radio YouTube channel spot. Elijah Sagar. The whole crew always posting great videos of all the shows. But right now, it's time for midwee. Covino and Rich gets you over the middle of the week with midweek major. Ooh, I love that we throw sports and pop culture headlines and topics at the fellas. And it's like the kids say, that's so mid week. Definitely major CNR scoring midweek. That was for game three of the NBA finals. Getting ready and I spot. I feel like we have too much time for you today. Yeah, I don't want it. I don't need it. We're going to roll These two. So much going on. You know what? You know how you, you take time away from me? I'm just going to not use it all today. I feel like we could just roll those two big red love dice over there very casually. Man. Come on, come on, let's go. Ah. Five. Man, that's weak. That is weak. I'm walking away from that table. No. 3. Yeah. That means Covino gets first take. And now, ladies and gentlemen, the most famous person besides Judy Blume from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Spotty Boy. Hi, boys. Hey. Let's speak really slow to use all my time. So former head coach Tom Thibodeau has finally spoken out for the first time since his firing and through a full page ad in the New York Times. So Thibodeau, who was fired on June 3, thanked the new York fans by saying, to the best city in the world with the best fans in the world, thank you. Went on to say how grateful he was for the opportunity. Thank the players and the coaching staff and then ultimately in the end, thank the fans for believing in him and supporting him. From day one, fans took to social media, posted the full page ad on social saying that it was a very classy move and really appreciate it. No. Has no, you know, no word yet as to where he's headed, but midweek or major? I think it's major because definitely major. It sucks to lose your gig, but when you see that everybody around, your colleagues, your players and your friends and family, everyone, the fans all reach out to say, yo, this, this is messed up. This doesn't seem right. It makes it a little bit better. No, I think so. And the fact that he had this sort of send off, I think it's. It's major. It's a big story. You know what really shocks me that this was eight days ago that it happened. It feels like forever ago. The world of sports ever seriously, the world of sports moves so fast. There's always a new story every day. That, that seems like it was at least a month ago, but he get fired in 2022. Seriously. So I'm going to go mid and major. That's so major. That's so mid in that so many people take out full page ads when they leave a city. What's major about it is it's usually a free agent that leaves the city on their own accord and they're trying to just make nice by being like, I want to thank Philadelphia for all my time. Maybe he got an outcry of like a little bit of vindication. Was the word I was looking for. But I'm saying with everyone being surprised by his departure and his firing, he's leaving with grace and clay. And you know what? Everyone will look back. Everyone will look back at the Thibodeau tenure as the Knicks head coach and say that was a good chapter. And they're always going to think it may have been cut short. So I think this is a classy move, and if anything, he's making himself a better major and mid. It's. Wow. I think that's the first multiple. Yeah. Because there's something major about it and there's nothing definitely major. I'll take it. All right. Well, you mentioned it earlier, and I'm just going to go with it. Anyway. Bill's qb, Josh Allen, is gushing over his new wife, Haley Steinfeld. So during press this week, Allen was asked about how some of the milestones over the last few months affected him, including winning NFL MVP. His 330 million contract extension. He said, quote, they've all been big, but none other than marrying my best friend. She makes everything easier. I don't really focus on other stuff. That was the most important decision I'll make in my life, and I made the right one. As you know, they tied the knot on May 31, I believe, in California in a special secret ceremony with several teammates in attendance. And of course, I don't know if you saw that Larry David in attendance. So some fun, fun people at their wedding there. Because that dude parties. He should go to every wedding. Look up Craig Olson at a wedding. If you've never. That was McCaffrey's wedding, right. Had a tie around his head. This guy parties. It's major. It's a bit eye rolling because who's having a better year than that? Guys. Oh, my goodness. But hey, I'm not hating. I'm just stating I'll applaud him. That's. That's incredible. And he's saying and doing all the right things. There's no doubt about it. That's like the nicest thing he could possibly say about the woman he just married. So I think that's great. I think it's major. Definitely major spot. Can you give me the quote one more time? That she makes everything easy and better? What was it? Yeah, he said, she makes everything easier. I don't really focus on other stuff. That was the most important decision I'll make in my life, and I made the right one. Choosing the right spouse is crucial to general happiness. General happiness. I love this because the opposite is the equally terrible. Marry the right person. Good. Good job. Marry the wrong person. You see this clip of Alec Baldwin marry the wrong person in Vegas, man. Sorry, you're the one that brought it up. Yeah. It's a bad story. That club of Alec Baldwin from maybe like a month ago where he's on a red carpet and what's his wife, Hilaria. Yeah. Cuts him off, puts her hand in his face, and you see the look on his face like, I hate her. Marrying the wrong person. That makes your life more difficult, will bring you down. Has Josh Allen seen Sinners yet, though? I mean, let me tell you, good for Josh Allen. He's just a Lombardi Trophy. Shy of hitting all the goals in life, can she make it easier for the Bills to win a Super Bowl? I mean, happy, happy life at home, Sam. Makes going to work easier. I remember when I was dating someone, that was a pain in my ass. I would shove Grumpy to work. Wasn't the same guy. True story. Good, good. Oh, you did. Next story. All right, Angel Reese, your favorite, has been named Sportswoman of the Year at the BET Awards for the third straight year in a row. Beating out some. Is that serious? Hold on. Beating out. I'll get there. Beating out Simone Pyles, Coco G. Goff, and several fellow NBA players. And given Reese's lackluster performance of late, left fans scratching their heads. Yeah. What? Reese is one of only three women to win the award more than once. And check out her company, the other company, the other two. Serena Williams, who won it 16 times, and Naomi Asaka, who won it twice. Fans were upset because Goff just won the French Open. Dominated there. And Biles, of course, gold medal winner, is dominated. And then fellow nominee boxer Clarissa Shields even spoke out, saying, still don't know how I didn't win Sportswoman of the Year. Congrats to Angel Reese. I just thought accolades mattered. So for comparison, by the way, the. The man, the sports man of the year, Jalen Hurts. So midweek or major weak. Weak all around. I mean, nothing against the BET Awards. I saw a lot of the highlights of some. Mariah Carey won her first for her iconicness. I mean, she's an icon. Yeah, yeah, she's an icon. But Angel Reese, three years in a row. Simone Biles, Olympic gold. I know she was in some controversy. Yeah, I see. Yeah, right. She was a little outspoken about the transgender stuff that she got in some hot water and Coco Gauff just won. So how is she not the person? I don't get it. Ridiculous. It's really weird. This is major, definitely major, because people keep putting this woman on a pedestal that she doesn't deserve. She's a great athlete, but you talk about the best. That would be like me saying, you know, the greatest fighters, Ali, Frazier, Tyson, Fury, you know, Lennox Lewis and Glass Joe. Like she doesn't fit. Remember Sesame Street? One of these things is not like the other. The others are accomplished. Glass Joe. Derek called her the Glass Joe of that. Of the other nominees, I guess. Right. I would get it after she won the national championship with lsu. I'd even get it after maybe last year where she was really good double doubles, you know that. But three years in a row I don't get that. Well, I'm guessing the thinking is that often she may appear to be overlooked when it comes to Caitlin Clark and the love that she gets. So this is their way of giving back to her. But she's won it twice already. I disagree with it, but who the heck am I? Yeah, what do we. Who cares what I think? I will say this though. I do love following these guys on social media. I showed spot they bet a prop bet every day for Angel Reese to miss her first shot and she always misses her first shot and these guys keep doubling. She had a three yesterday. I know, but it's just very funny. Yeah. You shouldn't be surprised though, when she's hitting threes. That's the thing. Yeah, exactly. All right, Spotty, next. All right, next. Since you mentioned sports betting, we'll stick with that. So according to a recent anomaly poll by the Athletic, it seems that MLB players aren't too thrilled with legalized sports betting. So 133 players were polled as part of this poll from the Athletic and asked the question, has legalized sports betting changed how fans treat you or your teammates? And a whopping 78.2% said it has, saying the situation has become way more negative, especially on social media, citing how people wouldn't say stuff to your face, other fans, yellow stuff in person about bets they've taken demanding like over unders on certain stats to players. One other player even said they got a Venmo request saying quote, you owe me $9,000 because you blew the game. I need you to send me money or I'm going to find your family. And this isn't an isolated incident. And then yeah, related story actually golfer Scotty Scheffler said that he had to delete his Venmo because people were either sending him money or requesting money based on sports betting. So it Seems like sports betting has kind of gotten personal attacks on players and I'm sure it's across all sports midweek or may. Wow. This is major because it's now become such a big part of why people watch. And I get it. It adds to the excitement. It's a lot of fun when you have action on the game, but get a life, loser. You're taking it out on these professional athletes because they didn't deliver. Who wants to deliver more than them? They're the ones out there doing it. I just don't understand that mindset. I don't get it and I don't respect the people that take things to that next level. I think this is absolutely major. Definitely major. It's the part of gambling we don't talk about enough this fun to wager this fun betting on football and basketball and hey, doing our DraftKings pick six, which I love. Oh, you know, Soto over a one and a half bases. Aaron Judge a home run. Tattis, you're not handling like a, like a degenerate. But, but you know what? You lose, you lose with grace. A lot. That guy's fault. I'm like Thibodeau. I'm a graceful guy. No one's forcing you to bet on that guy. But you know what I will say there are days where I'm like, oh man, Tatis. Or you know, a guy, whoever who bet on Tatis. You. I know, but what I'm saying, yourself in the head. But what I'm saying is I am a mature adult. So is Dan Meyer, Danny G, you, everyone in the room, for the most part, mature adults. What I'm saying is, is that most people aren't. So you're going to hold resentment if you missed a 6 out of 6 pick 6 parlay because Bogarts comes up short. You're going to be a God damn Bogart and you're going to be all, you know, you're going to be rude about it and it's terrible. It's the bad part of sports gambling. I hate this. I hate it, hate it, hate it. So, yeah, when you have that and then you have social media, the hate is going to go there towards that guy because of these things. Like the other day, degrom through his first game where he didn't have a shot. Strikeout. I guarantee there's someone that was mad at the ground because his, his strikeout over under hit the under. Yeah, forget that. He, you know, he won or whatever the case. Yeah, it doesn't matter. Did you guys See that? Gabby Douglas was heckled by some and he like got her to screw up her performance so he could win a bet like it was. Yeah, that's gross. It's not necessarily the problem with gambling, it's the problem with people. Yeah. Yeah, no doubt. Well, thank you, Spot. That was a fun. Thanks for giving me some time. Problemo. Let's go to Dan Buyer for an update. Db, what's going on, my friend? Guys, in the NBA, it's game three of the finals tonight between the Thunder and Pacers, tipping off from Indianapolis at 8:30 Eastern Time. Series is tied up at 2 apiece. By the way, remember the other day I was mad that SGA's over under was 31 and a half and I bet the over and he hit 31. I shouldn't be mad at SGA. I'm just an idiot. So see, that ties it all together. The game tonight. Tipping off again, 8:30 Eastern Sunday was the admiration when it's the 8:00 8:30 Eastern Time tonight. The star Tyrese Halliburton did admit yesterday he's dealing with a lower leg issue. Shams reported that it is an ankle issue, but he's not on the injury report and will start tonight. The Suns and Kevin Durant along with his reps, have begun talks on moving Durant out of Phoenix this offseason. The Rockets, Spurs, Timberwolves, Heat and Knicks were named as possible destinations. Mark Stein, NBA Insider reported the Mavericks denied the Knicks permission to speak with head coach Jason Kidd about New York's coaching vacancy. So then the Knicks pivot to the Atlanta Hawks. ESPN says the Hawks said no, you can't speak with Quinn Snyder. This on the heels of yesterday us finding out that the Rockets and Timberwolves also denied the Knicks permission to speak to Ime Udoka and Chris Finch. Celtics guard Jalen Brown had arthroscopic surgery on his knee. He's expected to be ready for training camp. Raiders signed veteran linebacker Jermaine Pratt to a deal. Eagles on first round pick linebacker Jihad Campbell. That means four first rounders remain unsigned. And how about some day baseball, a stat that only interests me right now. But of the six finals from today, guys, the losing team scored two runs in all of them. Oh wow. So Pirates beat the Marlins 5 2. Not the only 52 game as the Blue Jays won in Arizona 5 to 2 in the desert today. More as has already had some monumental grand slams this year. And now he swings, might have another high drive left way back and gone his 19th home run of the season. And he takes a 2 nothing deficit and turns it into a 42 lead. Eugenio Suarez, third Grand Slam of the season. Diamondbacks as a team have eight of them. Diamondbacks Radio Network they beat The Mariners today 5 to 2. Guardians down, the Reds 11 to 2. Phillies took care of the Cubs 7 to 2. Kyle Schwaber, home run number 21 on the season. And the Braves beat the brewers in Milwaukee 6 to 2. Right now the Dodgers lead the Padres 4 to 2 in the ninth inning. What's going on? You won't get it in Anaheim. Angels on top of the A6 5. And that's so weird. Camino just went to the bathroom for a number. Thank you. Damn buyer. That's crazy, man. Man, who'd you hit up your pal Elias at the sports bureau for that one. I just realized that I kept on saying two to two to two. Wow. Some who, who is the one team that ruined it? Angels and A's right now six to five in the eighth. See, someone's mad at their prop bet because of that right title together. Thank you, buddy. Thank you. Dan Buyer Wasted talent in sports, who do you look at as the poster boy of wasted talent? As Shohei hits a line drive double to the gap. Did you see that? My goodness. So good man. Oh, triple he what? Yeah, I'll tell you. Nine out of ten big leaguers, dude, that's a stand up double, yo. I can't even believe he got the third on that because he hit it so hard. All right, so poster boy of wasted talent, who is it? And let's chop it up and think of some others. And what do you do? How do you turn that around? We discuss it next right here on Fox Sports Radio. Let's be real. Life happens. Kids spill, pets shed and accidents are inevitable. So many great songs. God only knows. I think this is a top five song of all time. Awesome. Yeah. Vibrations. See the movie Love and Mercy, the Brian Wilson Story. John Cusack played Brian. You know, I don't think I have, but maybe a good watch. Yeah on your list to pay tribute. Kokomo Wouldn't it be Nice? Oh, yeah, that was a good one. All right. Hey, listen, Danny, you said you have a tweet about the beginning of our show, and then we gotta talk about wasted talent before we get outta here. Yeah, really quick before we get to our last topic. Socialtainments tweeted. He said, Danny, tell CNR they missed June 11, 1993. Jurassic park was also released on this date. So we opened the show today with four classic movies that were all released on this date. Ferris Bueller et, Austin Powers, Napoleon Dynamite. What? Where does Jurassic park rank horse have a different color that changes everything. Should have been a top five today. Not a top four, right? Jurassic is two behind ET or maybe one for some. Our listener here said that one is number one to me. It's definitely up there. No question. Especially when you put yourself in the mindset of seeing it for the first time. Right? There's another Jurassic park movie coming out, like in a week or right now, right? Yeah, those movies do so huge. Thank you for chiming in. Now, now, the saddest thing in the world. Talking about the sad loss of Brian Wilson and Sly Stone this week. The saddest thing in the world is what? Wasted talent. And if you don't believe me, maybe you believe, I don't know, Robert De Niro. Remember, the saddest thing in life is wasted talent. You could have all the talent in the world, but if you don't do the right thing, then nothing happens. But when you do, right, guess what? Good things happen. Are you. You listening, Calogero? That's a Bronx tale, a classic, and that's the biggest takeaway. It's the whole point of the movie. It's one of the best takeaways of the movie. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent. And when you think of sports, when you think of life, who comes to mind? Because we're here to say that there's a new poster boy in town for sure. Well, I don't think a poster boy. I think a guy that, well, his talents being wasted rich. But you could look and say the trajectory is not good. Like, I think we're still too early because he's still so young, but Mr. Paul Skeens, Mr. Livy Dunn, Paul Skeens, one of the best young pitchers the game has seen in a while. The run support he's getting might even eclipse what I would call the Jacob deGrom treatment. Where. Remember when Jacob deGrom would win like 10 games for the Mets and his ERA would be one point something. He had zero right support. How many times deGrom would take the hill for the Met? Seven innings, one run and get the loss. And look how it worked out for him. He eventually won with Texas. And, you know, he's still doing his thing. Maybe he goes back to the Mets. Paul skeens has a 1.12 ERA in his last seven starts, 1.12 ERA in his last 7 starts. And he has one win to show for it and 7 stars. I know you said the one win. That's a joke. He gave it away, but I'm not saying he gave it away in a bad way, but give me the ERA in the seven starts again. 1.1, 1.1 and 7.12. Yeah, 1.12 and seven starts. Realistically, he got to get five wins out of that. Yes, you could say. I would say so. You would think six. You would say five to. I'm be. I was being casual by saying five. Six. If you said maybe one of those starts, the game was knotted up at 11 in the sixth and he got pulled. Or five in the fifth inning. 1.12 ERA and seven starts, and the guy comes away with one W. So is he winning in life? Is he getting paid? Is he with Livy done? Is he in the big leagues? Is his career trajectory on a great path? Yeah, because he's going to end up somewhere else just like the GROM did. He's probably going to win. That's great. And hopefully that's the Yankees for me. But as of now, all this effort is being wasted. They're not winning. As a result, he's not getting any wins. You know, he's getting a lot of strikeouts. And his ERA tells a different story. And that story tells that he plays for the weakest team. That's really it. You got to wonder, is he going to be there to stick around for a Pirates rebuild? Because I don't think they'll even do that. Bob Gibson, historically, by the way, in 1968 and 69, had nine losses and 13 losses with ERAs of 1.12 and 2.18. So that's a guy that would pitch the whole game and the team wouldn't even do anything for him. So Bob Gibson, Jacob deGrom, they're saying Randy Johnson at time. So, hey, there you go. What else comes to mind, let us know. All right, we'll see you guys tomorrow. Arrived at baby. See you in the promised land. Time for a sofa upgrade. Podcast Summary: The Herd with Colin Cowherd
Episode: Covino & Rich - New MLB Blood, NBA Finals & Patience
Release Date: June 12, 2025
Host/Author: iHeartPodcasts and The Volume
Covino and Rich kick off the episode by highlighting the remarkable rise of young talents in Major League Baseball (MLB). They emphasize how players like Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge are revitalizing the league's popularity. Covino points out, "Shohei Ohtani, dude, when he gets his last at bat in a game, the stadium clears because they're all there to see that guy" (15:30).
Rich adds, "Baseball's capitalizing on these young superstars, getting that extra shine they deserve" (16:10). The duo notes that MLB's ratings are skyrocketing, even as the league faces challenges like losing its broadcasting deal with ESPN. This resurgence is attributed to the magnetic appeal of these emerging stars who draw in a diverse and enthusiastic fanbase.
Transitioning to the NBA, Covino and Rich express concern over declining viewership for the NBA Finals. Covino speculates, "It's probably a better possibility that it's two small market teams, but we'll see what happens in Indiana tonight" (22:45). They discuss how the presence of smaller market teams might be impacting overall interest, despite the high level of competition on the court.
Rich mentions, "MLB's ratings really going through the roof with all these young superstars. Baseball's on the rise. NBA on the downside" (23:20). They debate whether factors like team market size or broader cultural perceptions ("the woke nature of the NBA") are contributing to the NBA's dip in ratings.
Midway through the episode, the hosts delve into a segment featuring Mike's Words of Wisdom, focusing on the theme of patience. Mike shares, "Patience is what you have when there are too many witnesses" (35:50). Covino humorously reacts, "Rich was born with a short fuse. So let's be fair" (36:10), adding personal anecdotes about waiting at barbershops and dealing with impatient family members.
Rich expands on the concept, tying patience back to sports, "You could talk about this honestly, you could tie anything into sports because a fan base, if you can master the patience of a rebuild and what it takes to win, you gotta trust the process" (38:00). They agree that patience is a lost virtue in modern society, both in everyday life and within the sports industry.
The conversation shifts to NFL's Josh Allen, who recently married Haley Steinfeld. Covino highlights, "Josh Allen gushing over his new wife, Haley Steinfeld... 'She makes everything easier. I don't really focus on other stuff. That was the most important decision I'll make in my life, and I made the right one.' (45:15). The hosts commend Allen for his heartfelt remarks and discuss the positive impact of a supportive personal life on an athlete's performance and happiness.
Covino and Rich address the contentious decision to award Angel Reese as Sportswoman of the Year at the BET Awards for the third consecutive year. Rich expresses confusion, stating, "Angel Reese, three years in a row. Simone Biles, Olympic gold... How is she not the person?" (50:25). They explore fan dissatisfaction, comparing Reese's achievements to other nominees like Coco Gauff and Serena Williams.
Rich sarcastically remarks, "She doesn't fit. Remember Sesame Street? One of these things is not like the other." (51:10), critiquing the perceived mismatch between Reese's performance and the honor bestowed upon her. The hosts debate whether the award reflects genuine athletic excellence or other factors influencing the decision.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to discussing the negative repercussions of legalized sports betting on athletes. Citing a poll by The Athletic, Rich mentions, "78.2% of MLB players said it has changed how fans treat you or your teammates." (55:40). They recount disturbing instances where players received threatening messages and inappropriate financial demands linked to betting outcomes.
Covino laments, "You lose with grace. A lot of that guy's fault. I'm like Thibodeau. I'm a graceful guy. No one's forcing you to bet on that guy." (57:05), highlighting the toxic behavior some bettors exhibit towards players. The hosts agree that while gambling adds excitement, it brings about undue pressure and harassment, tarnishing the relationship between fans and athletes.
Covino provides an update on the NBA Finals between the Thunder and Pacers, mentioning they're tied at 2-2 in the series with the next game scheduled for tonight at 8:30 PM Eastern Time. They discuss player injuries, such as Tyrese Halliburton's lower leg issue, and ongoing trade talks involving Kevin Durant.
Rich informs listeners about the Knicks' unsuccessful attempts to engage with potential coaching candidates, including the Hawks and Rockets, emphasizing the competitive nature of securing top talent. Additionally, Covino touches on recent MLB games, noting impressive performances like Eugenio Suarez's 19th home run of the season (62:00).
Concluding the episode, Covino and Rich explore the theme of "wasted talent" in sports, focusing on Paul Skeens, a promising young MLB pitcher. Covino states, "Paul Skeens has a 1.12 ERA in his last seven starts, and he has one win to show for it." (68:30). They compare Skeens' situation to that of Jacob deGrom, highlighting how exceptional performance can be undermined by inadequate team support.
Rich questions, "Is he winning in life? Is he getting paid? Is his career trajectory on a great path?" (70:15), suggesting that despite Skeens' talent, his potential is being stifled by the team's poor run support. They discuss historical parallels, referencing Bob Gibson's era, and ponder Skeens' future prospects within MLB.
In this engaging episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Covino and Rich navigate through a spectrum of sports topics, from the invigorating rise of young MLB stars to the challenges facing the NBA, the virtues of patience, personal milestones of athletes, controversies in awards, the dark side of sports betting, and the lamentable cases of wasted talent. Their insightful discussions, coupled with candid humor and pointed critiques, offer listeners a comprehensive look into the current state of the sports world.
