This is an iHeart podcast. Use of flavored tobacco by teens is a crisis. Tobacco companies use flavors like cotton candy, watermelon ice and cool mint to hook kids like me. They seem harmless, but they aren't. Addiction to nicotine sets us up for a lifetime of health problems. Organ legislators can do something about it. Passing Senate Bill 702A will keep flavored tobacco away from kids. But there are just a few short weeks left for lawmakers to act. Take action to protect kids like me at flavors. I got a dumb question before we get into Tom Brady, before we talk about WNBA or Chipotle worker, we're gonna play a game.
Tom Brokaw
By the way, you surprised no one brought up Mick Jagger. Last hour, Danny G. And Iowa Sam were like, I can't believe it. No one brought up Mick Jagger. Cool old guys brought up Paul McCartney. I have to say, in older age, in old age, Mick Jagger's cooler than McCartney. Jagger's 81. I know. He's got the move.
Dan Byer
I'll give you one. Steven Tyler's pretty damn cool.
Tom Brokaw
He's super cool. He wears lots of scarves. He's done touring.
Ryan Seacrest
By the way, you know, dude looks like a lady these days.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah.
Dan Byer
I mean, he does. Don't look at his feet.
Ryan Seacrest
He looks like my Grandma.
Dan Byer
They're like LeBron's toes. We did an event where we got to interview Steven Tyler. So pleased. And it was our pleasure to interview him. He's wearing open toe shoes. And I'm like, why would you do that when you got toes that overlap each other?
Tom Brokaw
He's got what people call what vatos call Pobrecitos. He's 77 years old. Yeah. So cool old guys. In tribute to Pete Carroll, we wrapped that up. The rest of your feedback at Covino and Rich.
Dan Byer
Before we get to this Tom Brady story, give away some prizes, random question around the room. I Saw that Patrick Mahomes got to hang with Lionel Messi. They did a Adidas commercial together. They did a jersey swap. They were palling around, bro. Hugging globally. I would imagine the answer is messy. But do you think here in the United States. In the States, is Mahomes a bigger star than Messi or. There's so many young kids into soccer that you'd say, even here in the.
Tom Brokaw
States, I'm going Mahomes. Because, I mean, it's America's game. Nothing bigger than American football in America, worldwide, there's no comparison whatsoever.
Dan Byer
100 middle school and high school kids, hey, kids, who do you want to come to the school? Would they say Mahomes or Messi?
Tom Brokaw
Dave?
Lester Holt
Most of them would say Mahomes.
Dan Byer
I would think so, right?
Lester Holt
In the US in the US Argue other parts of the world.
Iowa Sam
I've never seen a Mahomes jersey out of my grocery store. But I see messy jerseys more than. It's a great point than that.
Dan Byer
That's why I thought it was an interesting question, because my first thought was, globally, Messi, what a big star. And I thought it was a cool moment that they did an ad together for Adidas. The jersey swap, bro Huggin. And I thought, well, here in the States, Mahomes, I'm like, you know what? Maybe not even. Because we love football and baseball and basketball, I feel like the younger generation puts soccer sort of in that category.
Tom Brokaw
There's no doubt. But there's way more Americans watching American football than soccer here in this country. No doubt ratings prove it. Yeah, there's just no doubt. There's no denying that. So just based on that, and the more and more it becomes an international game. But I do think I actually disagree with Dan Beyer, believe it or not. I actually do. I think in America, Mahomes, what would you say?
Dan Byer
I mean, just let me have America. He has the rest of the world.
Tom Brokaw
You know, he has the rest of the world. Messi. There's no denying he is a mammoth outside of America, even in America. But I think. I think Mahomes still edges him out here.
Dan Byer
Can I just give you.
Tom Brokaw
Because of the popularity of American people.
Iowa Sam
But what about if you're under 21?
Tom Brokaw
Oh, okay.
Iowa Sam
That's. That's just the only point that I'm thinking of, like, the youth of America, we all love football. Football is like our fate, you know, our favorite. And I think that there's a lot of people like us, but it's a.
Tom Brokaw
Good debate for sure.
Dan Byer
I'll tell you what. We had the Honor of interviewing David Beckham. We had a sit down with him when we used to work at espn. And when I tell you the vibe in the building when David Beckham came in was like nothing I've ever seen. Like, I mean, like security from coworkers to everyone.
Tom Brokaw
Those big international never felt uglier in our lives.
Dan Byer
That's true. Yeah.
Lester Holt
Yeah.
Tom Brokaw
What a stud.
Dan Byer
Like, man, what a handsome fella. But let me give you one comparison before we move on. I know social media is not everything, but Patrick Mahomes has 6.7 million followers on Instagram. Messi has 505 million. Can I give you those two numbers again? 6 million versus 505 million followers on Instagram.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah. Internationally. Insane.
Iowa Sam
I just googled just this. The meet up. And I saw the picture as well. Arrowhead Addict. So this is a Chiefs fan blog. The title says, Patrick Mahomes finally meets an athlete more popular than him.
Dan Byer
Oh, but that's.
Iowa Sam
But this may be worldwide, like to your point. Worldwide. There's no doubt about it. But I think it's interesting when you talk about the US on what the actual split would be.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah.
Dan Byer
Like, I mean, Danny, your. Your boys that are. Your sons that are in College, were they 20, 22 years old?
Tom Brokaw
Right.
Dan Byer
Would they be more pumped? They're football guys though, right?
Lester Holt
They don't give a. You know, what about soccer?
Dan Byer
Yeah, so. But they really don't.
Lester Holt
They watch more NHL than they do soccer.
Dan Byer
I love DB's point though. Of 21 and under 21. If I say a bunch of little kids. Listen, when I was a kid growing up, I played little league baseball, I played basketball. I never played soccer. Where I grew up, soccer was sort.
Lester Holt
Of like, meh, yeah, soccer was something they played like in elementary school and one of them in middle school. But then after that they like moved on to NFL.
Dan Byer
Can I say something and not offend people?
Tom Brokaw
Probably not, but go ahead.
Dan Byer
Where I grew up, nerds played soccer.
Lester Holt
Here we go.
Dan Byer
When I was a little boy. When I was a little boy.
Tom Brokaw
You also grew up with no people of color really either. I played soccer. Yeah, I played soccer.
Lester Holt
Okay, that didn't help.
Dan Byer
Proven Whitey.
Tom Brokaw
I mean, I played soccer. First sport I played. But in conclusion, Rich Proven Chat GPT says in conclusion, while Patrick Mahomes remains a prominent figure in American sports, Lionel Messi's recent achievements and influence have made him the more popular athlete in the US at this time.
Dan Byer
So what robots said.
Tom Brokaw
That's what Chat GPT said. So maybe Dan byers, you wasted 8.
Ryan Seacrest
Liters of water on that?
Tom Brokaw
Yeah, I guess so.
Iowa Sam
I just didn't think it was as obvious. I don't know which way it is, but I don't think it's the landslide that it appeared to be.
Tom Brokaw
It says as of mid-2025, Lionel Messi surpassed Patrick Mahomes in popularity among American sports fans.
Dan Byer
Wow.
Tom Brokaw
Maybe because Mahomes lost. Right? Messi's a global superstar. Social media.
Lester Holt
If we did a nationwide poll, I bet you it would be really close. It'd be split, probably.
Dan Byer
You know, it's interesting. I've seen Mahomes play in person. I've been to a Chiefs game.
Tom Brokaw
Well, it says. Hold on. It says, Messi's move to inter Miami in 2023 significantly boosted his profile in the US and he was the first soccer player to be named America's favorite professional athlete, surpassing legends like Jordan, LeBron and Mahomes. So his popularity is continuing to surge.
Dan Byer
I was going to say I've seen Mahomes play in person. And when Messi came here to the States and Inter Miami played lafc, we went to the game and it was an event.
Tom Brokaw
It was awesome.
Lester Holt
I remember you said, we're gonna go all the time now.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah, it was the first and last. How do you top it?
Dan Byer
You can't top it.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah, we had a great time.
Dan Byer
That's true.
Tom Brokaw
So, hey, I. I feel like it's Mahomes, but yeah, it's probably messy based on everything we just discovered together, so. Hey, Dan, I think you were right. If ChatGPT says so, it has to be.
Iowa Sam
Yeah, it has to be. Maybe you're becoming a buyer guy. I'm not sure.
Tom Brokaw
Maybe. All right, now, I think there's an easy answer to this question, but we'll throw it out there, see how you feel about it, and again, we'll come to conclusion together. What's a bigger honor? A statue or a street name? It's a bigger honor.
Dan Byer
It's a great question because Tom Brady is having a statue erected. I said erected. Outside of Fox, he's not erected. We've seen the amazing Kobe statues, Magic Johnson, some of the ones out of outside of Staples.
Lester Holt
Some of them don't look so amazing.
Dan Byer
And that's the thing, too. Sometimes statues don't. They miss the mark a lot of times lately.
Tom Brokaw
This is a 12 foot statue that came to be. Kraft decided this has to happen.
Lester Holt
Six times bigger than AIs.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yeah.
Dan Byer
Yeah. And you know what, Cove? Speaking of soccer stars, we've also seen how bad a statue could turn out. Allah Ronaldo, remember the whack ass Ronaldo And Dwayne Wade. Dwayne Wade's was not good. But then you say, well, we thought of street sign because Danny G. You brought this up. I said, well, what's a bigger honor? You get a statue. Unless you do some terrible stuff, that statue will forever live on outside that arena. Yeah, that town square, that federal building. Like if you're a politician, a president, an athlete, a famous person, that statue will live thousands of years after you.
Lester Holt
We just saw Travis Barker get a street named after him in his hometown of Fontana, California.
Dan Byer
And you know what? When I went to the Dodgers game a couple of weeks ago to see the Mets lose again, because I never go when they win, make a right on Vin Scully way. And I'm like, vin Scully, doesn't Fernando have one too?
Tom Brokaw
Honor, doesn't Venezuela have one?
Lester Holt
Check on that.
Tom Brokaw
I think Fernando Valenzuela has one. Tom Brady statue will be erected outside Gillette Stadium ahead of their first preseason game in August. And they're going to do a whole ceremony to promote the 12 foot tribute. And it is quite the honor. Kraft said that the statue would perpetuate the legendary legacy of this once in a lifetime player. So based on that, we posed a question and I think the answer is obviously the statue because I mean, you go back just into ancient times, that's how they. Yeah, that's how they immortalized their heroes and legends and leaders. And if you're able to do that in today's world with a bronze, a 12 foot bronze statue of Tom Brady, I think that says a lot about his legacy in years to come. And it lives on. And a street name. It always takes me back to the Chris Rock bit of anywhere in the country. If you're on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, run, run. I want Dr. Martin Luther King, like, because it's supposed to be an honor and it's a tribute, but like, you don't know what goes on on that street. It's not necessarily, it's not good things all the time.
Dan Byer
I think there's a tier system and it starts with, oh, you're in the ring of honor or the team retires your number. Then after that it's I think hall of Fame. And then I think after that statue.
Tom Brokaw
You got dogs tinkling on your street pole and bad things going on in that street.
Dan Byer
But I still think. And there are people that aren't even like the greatest dudes that have.
Tom Brokaw
What about street to the city?
Dan Byer
Key to the city?
Tom Brokaw
That means nothing to me. I don't even know what that means. What does that even mean? Does it open anything? If you want to. If you want to go to Dunkin.
Dan Byer
Donuts late at night, it unlocks the bathroom at the. The key to the city. But I think that. I think. I mean, I could be wrong. I think the street name is the ultimate honor where it's very cool, but it's not.
Tom Brokaw
It doesn't beat the statue. I don't think so.
Ryan Seacrest
Can I just say that there is something cool about writing an address and that person's name is in the address and it's like a part of the US Mail system. I mean, that's like forever.
Tom Brokaw
That is cool. Forever, ever. But that I agree with.
Ryan Seacrest
The statue is bigger.
Tom Brokaw
Neither are really forever. Everything has an expiration date, as we already established this week. Right. So the statue could come down one day. They could rebuild another stadium somewhere else. Someone vandalizes it and they can.
Dan Byer
They could rename a street.
Tom Brokaw
They can always rename a street, is my point.
Dan Byer
Because in New York Spot. Our old stomping grounds. Remember the. The Kaziusko Bridge? Isn't that like RFK now? You could rename bridges and streets and all that.
Lester Holt
Usually after they honor somebody, though, they leave that they should alone. Yeah, unless.
Tom Brokaw
Unless, of course, that person does something terrible.
Lester Holt
There is one side of the statue argument, Covina. There's people say there are way too many outside of Staples center. Whereas it's few and far in between when you have an actual street named after you.
Tom Brokaw
So what do you think? I think the statue is the ultimate honor. I really do. 87799 on Fox. Some say the street name.
Dan Byer
I have a question. Why did Chevy Chase get a street named after him? I hear he's not the nicest guy and he's a star. But isn't there like a Chevy Chase street out here somewhere?
Lester Holt
There is. Glendale, California.
Dan Byer
How did he get that?
Ryan Seacrest
Well, he. That's not his real name. He stole that. He took that name, I think, from Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Tom Brokaw
Is it the name of the Pete. Oh, so it's not named after.
Dan Byer
It's not the Chevy Chase. So in. In Hollywood, when there's a Chevy Chase street, that's not. That's not like National Lampoons Vacation Fletch. Chevy Chase.
Tom Brokaw
I didn't know there was one.
Iowa Sam
Is there one?
Dan Byer
Yeah, because I always remember thinking like, how did he get a street?
Tom Brokaw
Well, I guess maybe it's.
Lester Holt
I just looked it up. It says it's named after Chevy Chase Estates, a housing development established in the 1920s, Maryland. So he's a Chevy Chase, Glendale.
Tom Brokaw
Okay.
Dan Byer
But he, He.
Iowa Sam
That's.
Ryan Seacrest
His real name is Cornelius, Cornelius Chase.
Tom Brokaw
I think the only thing, the only edge that a street name has stuck with that. The only edge that the street name has is the fact that the statue could come out weak and therefore it takes away from the honor. Like the Dwayne Wade story. Most recently. Like, yeah, that was cool. Kind of. Not really.
Lester Holt
Yeah. One of the Kobe's. Remember the arm? Too long.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah. But if it's a nice one, then I think. Yeah, that holds more weight, Lucille. It's just the risk of it.
Dan Byer
Lucille Ball had a famously bad one. We've talked about this before. We don't need to really reiterate, but I do think Tom Brady. I think statues should be. Should be held for guys like Tom Brady.
Tom Brokaw
Or how about it, Like a stadium named after you. That's kind of dope. Or an award or a trophy. Is there something that beats the statue or the street name that we're not thinking of?
Dan Byer
But. But when you just said the statue. Right. We're thinking about Tom Brady. I think a statue does need to be reserved for a Michael Jordan, a Tom Brady, like a generational. Not like, this guy was the best guy on our team. I mean, no offense to Dwayne Wade. I love Dwayne Wade. I think he was a great player. Brought the Miami Heat to an NBA title. Like, but do you think Dwayne Wade does. There's a statue, but maybe you're thinking.
Tom Brokaw
It'S getting watered down. Like, not everyone deserves one.
Dan Byer
But see, then I, Then I sound like a jerk. Is Dwayne Wade, I'm sure, is a great guy. And everyone in Miami would be like, yeah, I give him a statue to me statue. It's like, you're right. It's like, you know, George Washington has a statue.
Tom Brokaw
Like, to me, you know, our very own Rob Parker came in really proud one day, and I'm proud of it's coming.
Dan Byer
Is it common knowledge yet?
Tom Brokaw
Oh, he's common knowledge. Let's just say he's having something named after him, not give it away. And I think that's pretty cool if someone names something after you. A strip club. The name of the strip club, after.
Dan Byer
Me, it's a strip pole. It's no longer Spearman Rhino, it's Spearman.
Tom Brokaw
Parker at the Parker booth. So, you know, there's other honors that hold some weight.
Dan Byer
Might be. Might be statue. You know what your thoughts? We'll. We'll take your feedback. Dan by any final thoughts on this?
Iowa Sam
I think it's street. No doubt about it. I am not. The statue is too sports related. You put it within the city of. Go down two blocks, take a left on Danny G Street. Like. Like, that's amazing. Like, to go see the. To see the statue. Like, you're going to the stadium. You're a sports fan. To be a part of the city and the community. Yeah, I got to go. Street name, you know.
Dan Byer
You know what I always find interesting, Dan Byer? Being that I'm such a fan of history. I love watching Covino's shows on the History Channel. And I actually do find a lot of interest in not only sports history, but just American history, because it really is only a couple hundred years. Like, we forget our. Our country's like three old people old. Like we're only a few hundred years old.
Tom Brokaw
Remember that story from a couple weeks ago about the man who died in.
Ryan Seacrest
His 90s, whose grandfather was born in the 1790s?
Iowa Sam
It's like John Tyler's grandson or something.
Ryan Seacrest
Yes, John Tyler's grandson.
Lester Holt
Because.
Ryan Seacrest
Because the men had children at like 70, 80 years old.
Dan Byer
It is insane to think our country's that young. But when I first moved out to California, we're in Sherman Oaks. When you think of all the street names in the town, Sherman Oaks, Ventura, Encino, these things are all named after people that made an impact. And to me, that's the highest Van Nuys. That's the highest honor. And just a fun fact. It is true. When you go down the 101 here in Los Angeles, when you pass Balboa, that is how Rocky Stallone came up with the name. He was trying to think of a name for the. For the character Rocky, and he was driving down as a good. Balboa.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah, Rocky Balboa. By the way, this is another instance, very rare, where Dan Byer and I disagree. So we'll let Chad Cpt make the final conclusion. The statue. The statue is. Statue is typically considered the greater, the greater personal honor due to a symbolic weight, permanence, and selective nature of who gets one. Street naming is still significant, but you could sometimes be more. But it can sometimes be more about publicly public utility than legacy alone. So if you're aiming for lasting legacy and admiration, the statue wins.
Dan Byer
Danbuyer. Don't you love how Kavino trusts a computer, a robot over you now?
Tom Brokaw
Is that the new thing, artificial intelligence?
Iowa Sam
Yeah. Kavino just wanted to get even, that's all, with the whole messy argument. That's truly what it was.
Tom Brokaw
You're gonna debate this alien intelligence? I just wanted to see. You know, this is a fun debate. It really is.
Iowa Sam
How many non Patriots fans are going to show up to the Tom Brady statue?
Dan Byer
Correct.
Iowa Sam
How many non Patriots fans are going to drive on Tom Brady street?
Tom Brokaw
Well, if you're Tom Brady, you probably get both eventually, right? I'm sure.
Dan Byer
So make a right on Buyer, then a left. Yes, he. That sounds good.
Iowa Sam
Bob Kavino's a dead end. Kino Street. Just kidding. Just kidding.
Dan Byer
Byers a sweet cul de sac. Cavino's a dead end.
Tom Brokaw
What's up, Bob?
Lester Holt
Bob in Texas.
Dan Byer
Cavino is so wrong.
Tom Brokaw
What? Me and Chatgpt are the only guys that think statue.
Dan Byer
Hold on, Bob. I'm going to sit back because you can list. You can list all the things. You can list all the things about, but look at all of the statues that have magically disappeared.
Tom Brokaw
You have to go through zoning and the US Post office to get a street name change.
Dan Byer
It's more permanent and it's more effective. And as Buyer said, people are going.
Tom Yamas
To drive down Tom Brady more than they'll ever see.
Dan Byer
Tom Brady statue. Yeah, I. And I. And I thought about this again, like I said when I went to the Dodgers game and. And your GPS is like, make a right on Vin Scully way or drive. And you're like man legend that deserves. That's the type of. You know, that's the type of guy and name, right? Like forever. Now, Kavino. Well, the Dodgers will be somehow tied to make a turn on Vin Scully.
Tom Brokaw
What says you? Your thoughts? We'll wrap it up with your phone calls next. And we're giving away prizes. All right, so either be dialing 87799 on Fox. That's the number. It's Father's Day weekend. We want to give away some swiggies. All you have to do is not be in last place when we play because Caitlin Clark is back tomorrow.
Dan Byer
Yeah.

But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.

Cops believed everything that Taser told them.

I
Is it wrong to want more?
Tom Brokaw
We migrated our family here. I'm like second generation.
I

I can't believe how many people think that the street sign holds more weight than the statue. The statue looks like you. That's.
Dan Byer
You had your name on it.
Tom Brokaw
It's there.
Dan Byer
I asked Rob G, producer of the Odd Couple and he would, no hesitation. He's like, street sign, street sign, people steal it. Street name.
Tom Brokaw
People commit crime on that street. Like I said, help. I'm on Dr. Martin Luther King anywhere in the country if you're in Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, it's a great.
Dan Byer
Great Chris Rock pit.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah. So I mean the street is cool. They're both cool. Which one holds more weight? Hey, think about it. Let us know at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. And congrats again to Tom Brady who's getting that 12 foot statue as a patriot. But now it's time to play. Chipotle worker or WNBA player. GT's up, Beast.
Dan Byer
Are you gonna get a Marie Brown jersey?
Tom Brokaw
Does she play in the wnba?
Dan Byer
Let's play a game that is clearly sweeping the nation.
Tom Brokaw
Chipotle worker or WNBA player?
Lester Holt
All right, Happy Friday. What a perfect day to bring this game back as Caitlin returns tomorrow against the Liberty. Sam, I'm sure you're excited about that. I'll be watching.
Dan Byer
I'm sure anyone involved in the WNBA where tickets were $3 while she was gone.
Lester Holt
All right, let's go to the studio lines. We're gonna get Our contestant, Cody in Virginia.
Dan Byer
What's up, man?
Tom Brokaw
Hey, Cody.
Dan Byer
Hey, man. How are you guys doing tonight?
Tom Brokaw
Good.
Dan Byer
This is a simple game. Danny will explain.
Lester Holt
Yeah, Cody, really quick. What do you do for work there in Virginia? You, Cody?
Dan Byer
Nothing.
Lester Holt
Oh, oh, no. He's having technical difficulties. What do you do for a living?
Tom Brokaw
I look at sterile processing at the hospital.
Dan Byer
Oh, okay.
Tom Brokaw
Okay.
Lester Holt
Nice. All right. All you got to do is not come in last place, Cody. So as long as you don't stink as bad as the rest of the crew, you're going to walk away with a swiggy. You're going up against Covino.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah.
Lester Holt
Rich Buyer Spotty. Samuel L. Johnson. And all you got to do is tell us is this name. I give you. Chipotle worker or WNBA player. All right, Covino, you're going to be up first.
Tom Brokaw
Let's go.
Lester Holt
First name, Rebecca Allen.
Tom Brokaw
Oh, that's such a WNBA player, Rich.
Dan Byer
She's making that new Chipotle chicken. I'm going Chipotle.
Iowa Sam
Chipotle Spotty.
Lester Holt
I'm going to go with Chipotle, Sam.
Dan Byer
WNBA, Cody Chipotle.
Lester Holt
Rebecca Allen is a 62 forward for the Chicago Sky.
Dan Byer
Come on, man.
Iowa Sam
Come on.
Tom Brokaw
Come on, man.
Lester Holt
All right. Covino, Chipotle worker or WNBA player? Cara Doucet.
Tom Brokaw
Cara Doucet works at Chipotle.
Lester Holt
Rich.
Dan Byer
Sounds like someone that should be on, like the Minnesota Links. Is that a team?
Tom Brokaw
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ryan Seacrest
They're one of the best teams right now.
Lester Holt
Buyer.
Iowa Sam
Chipotle Spotty.
Lester Holt
Yeah.
Tom Brokaw
I think you're trying to confuse me. What was it? Is it Daryl Doucette?
Lester Holt
Kara Doucet?
Tom Brokaw
I see what you. Yeah, I see what you're doing. I think you're trying to confuse me. I'm going Chipotle.
Lester Holt
Sam.
Ryan Seacrest
That's the flag football quarterback.
Dan Byer
Yeah. I'm gonna go wnba.
Lester Holt
Cody. Yeah.
Dan Byer
I gotta roll. W. Actually, Chipotle.
Lester Holt
You're gonna say Chipotle. Cara Doucet indeed is a senior manager for Chipotle in California.
Tom Brokaw
Unstoppable at this game.
Lester Holt
All right, next name for your consideration. Bria Hartley.
Tom Brokaw
Bria Hartley is in the wnba.
Dan Byer
Rich sounds hot. Bria Hartley, wnba.
Tom Brokaw
You're a bigger fan of Justin Hartley.
Lester Holt
Byers. Chipotle Spotty.
Tom Brokaw
Definitely Chipotle. I think it's.
Lester Holt
I think it's a dupe, Sam.
Ryan Seacrest
Women's National Basketball Association.
Lester Holt
Cody, come on.
Dan Byer
WBA.
Lester Holt
Bria Hartley is a 59 guard for the Connecticut Sun. Right. Chipotle worker or WNBA player? Covino, the next name here. Elizabeth Kitley.
Tom Brokaw
Elizabeth Kitley is stingy with the guac.
Dan Byer
Chipotle worker, Rich Elizabeth Kitley is stingy with scoring points in the wnba.
Lester Holt
Buyer, Chipotle Spotty.
Tom Brokaw
I'm gonna ride with Cavito because he seems to be doing well.
Lester Holt
So Chipotle Sam. Yeah, give me Chipotle and Cody.
Dan Byer
WBA.
Lester Holt
Elizabeth Kittley is a 66 center for the Las Vegas Aces. You led me astray.
Tom Brokaw
How dare you?
Lester Holt
All right, next name here. Covino. Chipotle worker or WNBA player. Katrina Jones.
Tom Brokaw
Come on. This is a trick question. This is a trick question, but I'm saying wnba, Rich.
Dan Byer
Katrina Jones. Come on, a little more chicken. It's a $15 bowl.
Lester Holt
Fire chipotle spotty. Chipotle Sam.
Tom Brokaw
WNBA Cody chipotle.
Lester Holt
Katrina Jones is a GM for chipotle in North Carolina. All right, Covino, next name here. Chipotle worker or WNBA player. Brittany Branch.
Tom Brokaw
Brittany Branch. Wnba, Rich.
Dan Byer
Brittany Branch sounds like an athlete. That's why I think I'm going the opposite. I'm going. I'm going Chipotle again.
Lester Holt
I see what you did there. Fire Chipotle Spotty. Wnba Samuel L. Johnson.
Ryan Seacrest
She's a branch manager for a Chipotle in Warren, Ohio.
Lester Holt
You took it too far, Cody.
Dan Byer
Chipotle.
Lester Holt
Brittany Branch is a crew member for Chipotle in Ohio.
Tom Brokaw
I mean, Ohio.
Lester Holt
How did you get that right?
Dan Byer
I don't know.
Lester Holt
To get that part right.
Tom Brokaw
Ohio is just the. The backdrops default state I name.
Lester Holt
All right, Covino. Chipotle worker, WNBA player. Erica Wheeler. Chipotle Double Talk Davis.
Dan Byer
Yes. See, she's on the New York Liberty.
Lester Holt
WNBA buyer, WNBA spotty. Chipotle Sam.
Tom Brokaw
I'm very confident she's in the WNBA.
Lester Holt
Cody.
Ryan Seacrest
WNBA.
Lester Holt
Erica Wheeler is a 57 guard for the Seattle Storm.
Tom Brokaw
Yes.
Lester Holt
All right, and one more name here. Last but not least, Covino. Chipotle worker or WNBA player. Artesia Martin.
Tom Brokaw
Chipotle Rich.
Dan Byer
I'm gonna. I'm gonna go too. Artesia Martin is a Chipotle worker.
Lester Holt
Fire Chipotle Spotty.
Iowa Sam
I'll stick with it.
Lester Holt
Chipotle Samuel. Chipotle Cody.
Dan Byer
I guess I'll roll with Chipotle.
Lester Holt
I think you're all onto something with Artesia Martin. She's a server for Chipotle in Florida.
Dan Byer
By the way, speaking of Chipotle, their dressing. Have you ever had the dressing?
Tom Brokaw
Yes. Fantastic.
Dan Byer
If you get a burrito bowl, you.
Ryan Seacrest
Get a burrito bowl.
Dan Byer
You ask for a side of that dressing.
Tom Brokaw
Oh, you know, they changed it, though. They did change.
Dan Byer
It's very greasy. It's like very.
Tom Brokaw
So good, though.
Lester Holt
All right, now, Spotty, it's his job to tabulate my tally sounds. Yeah, Sam, thank you. As long as Cody and Virginia didn't come in last place, he's gonna win.
Tom Brokaw
I'll start with second to last place, and that would be Mr. Steve Covino, who started out strong. Man, I really fell off. Really fell off at the end. I was in the zone. In third to last place, or I guess that would be third.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah. That would be a tie for Mr. Dan Byer and Iowa. Sam.
Iowa Sam
All right.
Tom Brokaw
In second place, Mr. Rich Davis.
Dan Byer
Yeah, I missed the first two. Then I got six in a row.
Lester Holt
Right.
Tom Brokaw
And in last place would be none other than myself. I did horrible at this game. So in first place, Cody with a total of seven. Being that he came in first, you got to throw some koozies. Yeah, he gets koozies. You got to give him. Give him a little extra.
Lester Holt
Yeah. Cody, we're gonna get that package off to Virginia for you.
Dan Byer
Thank you guys so much, man.
Tom Brokaw
Love you.
Dan Byer
Love the show.
Tom Brokaw
Thank you. Have a great weekend. That's awesome. So not only did he not come in last, he came in first. So he gets the swiggy and some koozies. And hey, nothing says happy Father's Day weekend like a victory here on the show.
Dan Byer
Nothing says happy. Nothing says happy wnba. With the return of Caitlin Clark this weekend, something to watch out for. All right, thank you everyone for playing. Let's go to Dan Byer. Let's an update as we get into the weekend. Db.
Iowa Sam
What up, db Guys wrapping up the second round of the US Open. Projected cut line, according to the broadcast, has now moved to plus six. There's a reason that that is important because that could be the difference on if we see Rory McElroy this weekend. Yes. The Masters winner who completed the career grand slam earlier this year is currently at seven over par through 16. Television broadcast is saying plus six. The scoring on the official U.S. open website is saying plus seven. So something to watch right now. Bryson DeChambeau likely not going to make the weekend. He's at plus 10. Ludwig Oberg is not going to play. He just finished and is at plus eight. Now Sam Burns is your leader after shooting 65 today. He's at three under par, one shot better than J.J. spawn, your first round leader, who's at two under par. Victor Hovland is two back at minus one. As for Burns, his round of 65 is the third lowest round ever at Oakmont in a U.S. open. Now, some notable names, including Scotty Scheffler, John Rahm and Colin Morikawa will play the weekend. They played early today and are at plus four. Phil Mickelson right now, teetering on that cut line. He's at plus six through 15 holes. Thunder Pacers, Indianapolis tonight, 8:30 Eastern Time in game four of the NBA Finals. Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook's expected to decline the option on his contract, according to ESPN, and become a free agent. Pirates beat the Cubs today, 21 in 10. College World Series Coastal Carolina a winner against Arizona in Omaha's play. Open today 7 to 4. And some WNBA news you guys mentioned. Caitlin Clark returning tomorrow against the Liberty for the Feedback Fever. Asia Wilson out tonight for the Aces against the Wings as she's in concussion protocol. Guys, back to you.
Tom Brokaw
Thank you, Dan.
Dan Byer
Have a great Father's Day weekend.
Iowa Sam
Yeah, thank you.
Dan Byer
Did Brody get you a little mug that says number one dad? Because I'm the number one dad.
Steve Cavino
All right.
Iowa Sam
I'm world's greatest. Yes. Greatest dad. That's the entire world. Yes, it's the whole world.
Dan Byer
That's better than a street sign right here.
Tom Brokaw
Wow.
Dan Byer
All right, thanks, Denbigher. Listen. Coming up next, we got Weekend Hobnob and what to watch in the world of sports and entertainment this weekend. A lot to a lot to check out, to be honest. So we'll get to it all next right here. Covino and Rich.
Steve Cavino
Use of flavored tobacco by teens is a crisis. Tobacco companies use flavors like cotton candy, watermelon ice and cool mint to hook kids like me. They seem harmless, but they are. I'll then be joined in conversation by guests such as Western historian Dr. Randall Williams and best selling author and meat eater founder Stephen Rinella.
Dan Byer
I'll correct my kids now and then.
Tom Brokaw
Where they'll say when cave people were.
Dan Byer
Here and I'll say it seems like.
Tom Brokaw
The Ice Age people that were here didn't have a real affinity for caves.
Tom Yamas
So join me starting Tuesday, May 6th where we'll delve into stories of the west and come to understand how it helps inform the ways in which we experience the region today.

Rich Davis
But not everyone was convinced it was that simple.
Tom Yamas
Cops believed everything that Taser told them.

Live from the Fox Sports Radio Studio. Ready for a new job? Let Express employment professionals help. While Express helps people in all industries find work, our sweet spot is logistics roles. And Express never charges job seekers a fee. Go to expresspros.com and now it's time for our Express Pros Pro of the week. And the winner is. Denzel Clark of the A's. Yeah, man, he's been in the bigs for three weeks and he's been making circus catches. And the highlights every night. And that robbery we established this week, it was the greatest home run robbery we've ever seen against the Angels this week. And again, that's just one of many great catches he's made in three weeks.
Dan Byer
Call me crazy if it doesn't work out with the ace. He could be a Savannah banana.
Tom Brokaw
I mean, insane.
Dan Byer
No, seriously, the guy is a ridiculous defensive player.
Tom Brokaw
Not just the catch, though. Everything about it. The. The sort of mid air pirouette he did over the wall, the little swoop de dupe and the way he landed it and growled and that's the official.
Dan Byer
Term swoop de do.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah, I named that this week.
Dan Byer
And not only that, he's had other great catches. And again, Danny, like you said, only in three weeks, right in the big crazy.
Lester Holt
I guess four now, but yeah, just got called upon.
Dan Byer
I'll give a backup. Can't give a backup, though. Pete Alonso, the guy's been ripping it up.
Tom Brokaw
He's been a beast. And Soto's had a nice week, too. But Denzel Clark, when you think about who we talked about the most this week, you know, he was a big headline for me.
Lester Holt
And not just being a prisoner of the moment, we established that that catch is right up there. As far as a home run robbery. It's got to be top one too.
Tom Brokaw
For real. So congrats again to Denzel Clark of the A's. He's your Express Pros Pro of the week.
Dan Byer
Your boy Aaron Judge is.
Tom Brokaw
He's climbing.
Dan Byer
He's leading the league. Leading the league in batting.392. Now, if he were to get a.
Tom Brokaw
Second to Raleigh in home runs.
Dan Byer
Oh, well, you gave my answer, so there you go. I know Raleigh. Second to who in rbi? Pete Alonso.
Tom Brokaw
Oh, in mlb.
Dan Byer
Yeah. So Raleigh would be what stands in the way of an AL MVP Triple crown? If it would be the case, that's how dominant Aaron Judge has been. But somehow Pete Alonso has 63 ribbies as of right now. All right, it's time for some weekend hobnobbin. Living for the weekend.
Tom Brokaw
You're winning bets for talking points. If you get stuck socializing, you ever done anything dangerous?
Rich Davis
Ever Dance with Devil in the Pale Moonlight.
Iowa Sam
That is dangerous.
Tom Brokaw
Friday brings us weekend hobnob.
Iowa Sam
All right.
Tom Brokaw
Of course, there's great basketball and hockey, but I'm kicking it off with UFC Fight Night. Usman, Buckley, Namajunas, Maverick. Enjoy some UFC this weekend on HBO Max. Not the Hulu one that Rich keeps talking about on HBO Max. It's a documentary about Sherry Papini of Redding, California, the woman that they said faked her own kidnapping. This is the story from her side. Her side of the story. She tells you what happened in those 22 days she went missing. It's called Caught in the Lie. Sherry Papini. Worth the watch. I'm gonna finish that. So far, so good. Yankees, Red Sox. Let's go. You know, it's a dying rivalry, but I feel like it's coming back. Do you think Yankee rival rivalries? Now it's the Mets, it's the Dodgers, but the Red Sox one is heating up again. Plus, you got the young star Anthony on that team. And I'm gonna be tuning into that and over promised episode 96. That's our bonus podcast. We want you to check that out on fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. We talk about wasted talent. Saddest thing in life. Wasted talent in sports and life. Plus the party information because we're broadcasting live from Vegas next Friday. And great father son moments in sports for Father's Day weekend. That's over promised with Covino and Rich on fox Sports Radio's YouTube page.
Dan Byer
Now, you know, I always think that the best shows are on Apple tv because Danny G, would you agree? For the most part, they are. Apple TV brings it.
Lester Holt
Yeah, there's like 10 shows that you have to watch from that streaming service.
Dan Byer
The latest might be Stick. Owen Wilson, you know, essentially walked up.
Tom Brokaw
Story of Jean Michael Walk, washed up.
Dan Byer
Golfer finds a young kid. And it seems like a dark comedy. It's funny, it's emotional. I watched one episode. I'm sort of pulled in. So Stick is great. And if you watch Tires with Shane Gillis on Netflix, I thought season one was good. What was the. What was that?
Tom Brokaw
Cause you're just one of those guys that everything you have is a bad boy. Like, just because you have Apple tv, you think everything's great on it.
Dan Byer
Well, this is on Netflix, dummy.
Tom Brokaw
Yeah, well, I don't like him either.
Dan Byer
You don't like Shane Gillis?
Tom Brokaw
He's alright.
Dan Byer
I think he's really funny. And Jon Lovitz, who we mentioned before, he's a big part of season two. A lot of funny cameos. And season two so far for me, way better than season one. So tires. Very funny. There's a lot of great rando documentaries to check out. There's one about. There's one about this cocaine plane. Have you seen this? There's a cocaine plane documentary.
Tom Brokaw
And the guy that survived in seat 11A in that plane crash.
Dan Byer
Oh my God. It's called Cocaine air smugglers at 30,000ft. That looks awesome. And I'll give you one more. Taraji P. Henson, who I think is great. She's in a movie called Straw on Netflix that looks really emotional and action packed.
Lester Holt
Looks corny.
Dan Byer
You think it looks corny?
Lester Holt
It does look corny from the trailer.
Dan Byer
All right, thanks, Danny.
Tom Brokaw
What you got, buddy?
Lester Holt
Keeping it real.
Dan Byer
Oh, and by the way, in the theaters, how to train a dragon. Live action.
Lester Holt
Yeah, every time that commercial comes on, co goes nuts. I've been telling you guys now since last weekend when I finished it. This Dale Earnhardt documentary, it's a docu series, four parts.
Tom Brokaw
I heard it's a tear jerker.
Lester Holt
Dude, 10 out of 10. It is an in depth look at his life, his son's life. The stepmom is a big part of it. And it's about. We talked about this topic yesterday. Rich balancing a professional sports career with personal relationships.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Lester Holt
And I'm serious. By the time he gets into that crash, which by the way, played out like a movie with all this real footage and everything from nascar. What an amazing story. And I didn't know a lot about this because I wasn't watching race racing as a kid or anything. But you don't even have to be a race car fan. Watch it. It's on Prime. Amazon Prime.
Dan Byer
Okay.
Lester Holt
Earnhardt, four parts. Going to love it.
Tom Brokaw
So no one watching me on the History Channel. Hazardous history of Henry Winkler.
Dan Byer
I'll watch Sunday night. I'll watch for Henry Winkler Sunday night.
Tom Brokaw
9:10 Central. Man, I see where you guys stand.
Dan Byer
But that I waited to see if.
Tom Brokaw
Anyone would say me on the History Channel this week.
Dan Byer
Kavino on the History Channel.
Tom Brokaw
Sunday night, new Henry Winkler show. What else you got, Danny?
Lester Holt
Just, of course, NBA Finals and hockey, NHL, Stanley Cup.
Tom Brokaw
All right, enjoy your final and thank you guys for enjoying this show. Catch me Sunday night, History Channel and here on Fox Sports Radio.
Dan Byer
Until then, Arriba. Dare Chi, baby.
Tom Brokaw
See you in the Promised Land.
Lester Holt

The episode kicks off with a spirited debate comparing the popularity of American football superstar Patrick Mahomes and global soccer icon Lionel Messi. Hosts Covino and Rich explore the differing fan bases and cultural impacts of these two athletes.
Dan Byer brings up a fascinating angle: "Patrick Mahomes, I'm like, you know what? Maybe not even. Because we love football and baseball and basketball, I feel like the younger generation puts soccer sort of in that category." ([05:50])
Tom Brokaw cites recent data stating, "As of mid-2025, Lionel Messi surpassed Patrick Mahomes in popularity among American sports fans." ([09:00])
The discussion delves into social media influence, with Dan Byer highlighting Messi's massive Instagram following compared to Mahomes: "Patrick Mahomes has 6.7 million followers on Instagram. Messi has 505 million." ([07:56])
Lester Holt counters by emphasizing the enduring popularity of American football: "There's no doubt ratings prove it. Yeah, there's just no doubt." ([06:13])
Despite the differing opinions, the hosts acknowledge that Messi's move to Inter Miami significantly boosted his profile in the US, making him a household name beyond traditional soccer fans.
Transitioning from popularity, the conversation shifts to how athletes are honored, specifically comparing the significance of statues versus street names.
Dan Byer poses the central question: "What's a bigger honor? A statue or a street name?" ([11:11])
Tom Brokaw advocates for statues, arguing their historical significance and permanence: "If you're aiming for lasting legacy and admiration, the statue wins." ([15:08])
Lester Holt and Iowa Sam discuss the practical aspects, noting that street names can sometimes be more susceptible to change or vandalism: "They could rename a street, is my point." ([15:25])
A highlight of the debate includes the upcoming statue of Tom Brady: "Kraft said that the statue would perpetuate the legendary legacy of this once in a lifetime player." ([12:57])
Iowa Sam counters by emphasizing community integration: "Street name is the ultimate honor... to be a part of the city and the community." ([19:00])
The discussion also touches on historical precedents and the potential for streets to embody a living legacy, as opposed to the static nature of statues.
Ultimately, while recognizing the merits of both forms of honor, the hosts lean towards statues as the more prestigious and enduring tribute to an athlete's legacy.
Adding an interactive twist, Covino and Rich engage in a game where they guess whether certain names belong to Chipotle employees or WNBA players. This segment highlights their camaraderie and adds a fun element to the discussion.
Dan Byer remarks humorously: "Where I grew up, nerds played soccer." ([09:05])
The game concludes with participants awarding prizes and teasing future show segments, maintaining an engaging and lively atmosphere.
As the episode wraps up, the hosts encourage listener participation, promote upcoming events, and reflect on the day's discussions.
Lester Holt summarizes a key takeaway: "If you're aiming for lasting legacy and admiration, the statue wins." ([15:08])
Dan Byer emphasizes the sentimental value of street names but acknowledges the superior historical weight of statues.
The episode concludes with a heartfelt Father's Day message, tying back to the theme of legacy and honor.
