Arman Tsarukian
The Volume Sa. What's up, Arman? How you doing?
Unknown
Doing great. How are you?
Arman Tsarukian
Good, man. Hey, so I was watching Instagram and I saw you just like housing thousands of dollars of caviar. Like, the shit is disgusting. It does not taste good, bro.
Unknown
Really? No. You never tried the good one?
Arman Tsarukian
I tried the good one. I tried the best caviar in New York City. The best caviar in New York City? Terrible.
Unknown
Okay, how many types of caviars you try? Black. How many?
Arman Tsarukian
I tried just one black caviar, but it's so salty. It's like.
Unknown
Yeah, but there is a seven. Seven different kind of them. And you gotta come Russia and I'll show the real caviar. And you're gonn.
Arman Tsarukian
I can't eat this stuff, man. It was.
Unknown
No, no, no. In Russia you're gonna eat it.
Arman Tsarukian
Okay. Okay. Hey, man. So thank you for joining me, Armand.
Unknown
Thank you for money.
Arman Tsarukian
Things are moving fast. Things are moving fast, champ. So obviously the fight with Islam didn't happen in Los Angeles, as is well documented. Dana said something Saturday. He thought. And I made the same mistake also on the weigh in show when I.
Unknown
Said yes, I see it, I saw that.
Arman Tsarukian
Yeah, I go. Him stepping on the scale is a big thing considering he missed weight last time. But you did not miss weight last time.
Unknown
No, I have never ever like issue with my weight and the make the weight is not a hard deal for me, so. And especially how you can miss the weight if you're being. If you're been waiting for that fight like six years. And like I knew about that fight before four months. Like you can bring your body like to that day where you're like good, you know, and it's not like four weeks or three weeks. You gotta jump in on the diet and like could do a lot of cardio and I was lighter than, than the last ones, you know, I was lighter for three pounds. And I was on the, in the pictures how you can, you can see like I was so lean. I was in good shape. You know, this was the worst thing. I overtrained and it hurt my back. Especially when I was dehydrated. I hurt my back and doctors came and checked my bag and yeah, they Said like if you couldn't move, if you couldn't make the weight, just don't do that. So Armen, what do you think?
Arman Tsarukian
What do you think when you hear that for me and then you hear from Dana and you're like, oh my God, this is so bad, right? Because you stepping on the scale is a great thing. But then obviously I have a big voice in mma. Obviously, Dana is the voice in mma. When you hear that, what do you think? Like, as the guy that knows it wasn't a weight issue, it was a medical issue.
Unknown
I'm mad on the doctors because they supposed to tell to Donna what really happened. They checked my back and. Or send me to do MRI or something and made the right decision, you know, and. And Donna, like until nowadays they think like I have an issue with my weight cut, but never. And I'm. I'm professional and like everybody who is close to me, they know me if I'm in the camp or I. If I'm on a diet, I never eat like outside and. And I'm so disciplined for that. And how can I miss that fight for the weight? It's like biggest fight in my life. It's. It's gonna change my life as well. And I'm gonna make a lot of money and like after and I. I could be a champion and then my life is gonna change. You know.
Arman Tsarukian
You get on the scale Friday as the backup fighter for Ilia Toria. Charles Oliveira, going into that fight, what was your expectation? Did you expect Charles Oliveira to be more competitive with Topuria considering you and him had a decent fight in the last one?
Unknown
I thought Tapuria are going to finish him in the third round.
Arman Tsarukian
Why?
Unknown
Because I thought Tapuria is not going to be rushed and he's going to take his time because he's so confident on his feet. He's not going to rush it and. But I like Oliveira has no chin. You know, he. He like a lot of people drop him and he plays guard, but he's getting old now. His chin not there and. And he has a way so difficult weight cut as well, you know, and he's. His time I guess passed and stylistically he's bad matchup for the Topuri as well because he has no wrestling to take him down and on. On how you can beat Tapuria. And Oliver has no good kicks as well. Like he has push key. He started very well with push kicks and. But then he just missed one punch and started like play his game on the boxing distance how you can. How you. You Should. You should work, like, straight punches, you know, stay on the long distance. If you're on the close distance, you gotta, like, just run out or, like, just go to the wrestling, you know, to try to take him down.
Arman Tsarukian
So when you watch that, right, they pan to all you guys sitting in the front row, and they want your reaction. What was your immediate thought watching Ilia Toporia, I mean, honestly, knock out Charles Oliveira after knocking out Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski back together? Like, were you impressed by the performance of Ilya?
Unknown
I was impressed because it happened in the first round. But I knew, like, he has one of the best boxing in our division right now, and he's the best weapon. It's a boxing, so. And when he knocked him out like that, I was. Yeah, I was. I was surprised. Like, he just. He just. He just, like, fall. Like, he just falls straight, you know? Yeah. So was. Was. Was good knockout, you know?
Arman Tsarukian
Yeah.
Unknown
What?
Arman Tsarukian
Armin, you were the number one contender going to fight Islam. After the fight didn't happen, Dana famously said he has to fight again. You go and you make the weight, right? So it is assumed that by. If the thought was that you had a weight issue, you make the weight. Now you're going to find yourself back in the number one contender position. But after the fight, Toporia starts to call everybody out. He called you out. He called Gaethje out. He called Patty out. Patty was the one, though, that walked into the Octagon first off. How'd that happen? How did he become the one that got into the Octagon and it wasn't you who was the number one contender?
Unknown
It was a Joe Rogan mistake.
Arman Tsarukian
Oh, Joe Rogan called him in.
Unknown
Yeah, Joe Rogan called him. It was the Joe Rogan mistake. And he shouldn't, like, call his even name, like, bring him to the Octagon or like Petty. He called the Petty to come to the Octagon. And, yeah, I was surprised, but, you know, when Donna said it shouldn't be like that, I said, okay, hopefully he's not fighting for the title.
Arman Tsarukian

Were you upset when you were watching that, like, as you see Patty Pimblett? Because it's hard to erase the visual of that, right? Like, in people's minds, they saw Patty Pimblett and Ilia Thaporia in the Octagon, like, Patty was the next guy. Were you, like, upset knowing that it's going to be an uphill battle now to try and change what people probably expect to happen now? Even though in terms of what's earned, you deserve a championship opportunity much more than Patty Pimbler right now.
Unknown
I mean, for the first, like 20, 30 minutes, I was of course upset because I said, this is not sport, this is wwe. They can do, they can do whatever they want to do. I've been fighting for, with everybody, you know, and like, had a good winning streak with the top, top fighters, you know, and, and, but, and then when I listen to Donald's interview about the Paddy, I said, okay, hopefully he's not fighting for the title. And they, they must put, put me on the title fight because, because I'm number one contender. I most deserved fighters right now. And after me, they can't fight. But next is me for sure.
Arman Tsarukian
Have you heard anything in the days since the fight in regards to what's going to happen in the future at 155 with you and Ilya and Patty and Justin Gaethje who won his last fight and said that he wants a championship opportunity?
Unknown
Yeah, I mean, UFC going to decide who is going to fight for the title and. But if you ask like fans and people, they just call my name and they know, like, I'm real contender and, and I know just me can beat Tapuya.
Arman Tsarukian
How do you think you. How do you think you beat Ilya to pour you, like, what do you make of him? I mean, because he's a guy that, you know, it seems all well put together, right? Beautiful family, great media presence, can fight. When you break him down in the fight side of everything, how do you beat Ilia to Poirier? Is it just a matter of the takedowns? Because the word or the story is that he started as a wrestler and a grappler and he has developed to become this tremendous striker. And if that's the case, that means that it would be difficult to just control him with the wrestling.
Unknown
I mean, I just need the fight and to show everybody, like, I'M a different fighter and I've been improving so, so, so much. And my last fight, my, my last fight was like one year and a half and I'm just can't wait to go there and to show like who is the romance Rukian and why I'm number one contender and that day I'm going to be a world champion. So it's not just the wrestling, it's, it's a, I'm a well rounded fighter and I'm not going to just try to wrestle him. I'm going to strike him, I'm going to kick him, I'm going to upkeep him and you know, and like try to do. But yeah, obviously I'm not going to try to box him. I'm gonna try to do like a real MMA fight to show him wrestling, to punch him, to punch him, wrestling, to show him wrestling, to kick him, you know and like clinch work. Yeah, he, I watched his first fight and he was wrestling a little bit. He got tired so much and he never fought his wrestlers like me, who knows, like freestyle wrestling. He had Bruce Mitchell or what's his name?
Arman Tsarukian
Bruce, Bruce, Ike's Mitchell. Bryce Mitchell.
Unknown
Bryce Mitchell. As, as the world, he's the worst fighter in 145. He took him down and like hold him like with the crazy, from the crazy position. He got his single leg and he even, he took him down like, I mean and he couldn't escape like one minute he just, he was pulling the guard. If you're, if you're good on the ground, you never pull guard. You're just trying to sleep or like get out, get out, get out from there. I mean I can tell he's not high level. Yeah. On the video he hits pass very well and like defend the wrestling. So like beautiful but I mean it's not double W. I can't wait to share like everybody.
Arman Tsarukian
You're funny. You said Bryce Mitchell's the worst fighter at 145.
Unknown
I mean, I mean he's a, I mean. Did you watch his fights?
Arman Tsarukian
I did. I've watched his fights. I cool.
Unknown
He's like, his kicks like he think he's kicking the ball.
Arman Tsarukian
I think like soccer.
Unknown
Like soccer? Yeah.
Arman Tsarukian
You're so crazy, Armin. You're crazy. Oh, okay. You said that you would be the backup fighter to weigh in for the BMF title. Fighter Armin. Why?
Unknown
I mean if they call me, if I need, I need to be a backup. I'll be back up.
Arman Tsarukian
No, what are you doing now? Where are you Are you in Thailand?
Unknown
I'm in Thailand.
Arman Tsarukian
What are you doing? Training? Yeah, this guy's on vacation.
Unknown
No, no, I'm in vacation. One week. I'm coming back on Sunday.
Arman Tsarukian
One week vacation in Thailand, come back, start getting ready for a BMF championship. I mean, come on, Armand.
Unknown
But no, no, no, no, no, no, no. They didn't tell me like you're gonna be back up. Yeah, yeah. I'm saying like if they need you, if someone pull out, if something happened, I'll be there and like try to make my weight and fight for the title because that's a good opportunity as well, you know?
Arman Tsarukian
Yeah. All right, man. Well, listen, Islam, when Islam vacated the belt to go to 170 people thought that 155 might have a little bit of time to like recover. But it seems like with Ilia Toporia now being the champion, you being here and all those other contenders, the division is just kind of waking up again with the change. And honestly today, Armand, I'm going to tell you this. Ilia Toporia is now number one pound for pound in the ESPN MMA rankings. What do you think about that?
Unknown
He deserved it to be a number.
Arman Tsarukian
One because he's a two division champion, right?
Unknown
He's two two division champion. He like knocked out, lost his fights and like he knocked out the goats and I mean how he went there and like knocked out Charles all over in the first round and. And Islam just move up. If Islam gonna win the title in 170, he's gonna be pound for pound. Yeah, for sure. Because, yeah, it just takes time. But I'll, I'll send the, I'll, I'll send Tapuria back to top 15. Pound for pound.
Arman Tsarukian
You're confident against Ilya. It's hard though, because I would, when.
Unknown
When the fight started, I wanted to Tapuria win because for me it's easier to fight Tapura than Oliver for my style.
Arman Tsarukian
I don't understand that though. I don't understand that. Armin, like, how can you say that?
Unknown
Because, Because I like, I like to take down people. You know, when you take down Charles Oliveira, he still can like choke you or some like do some mission. Yeah, but Tapuria is gonna try to get up. Just. He's gonna like defend. He's not gonna like. And then you can like just go like thousand times to the take him down because there is a. No, no problems on the ground. He, he's not going to try to choke you or something, you know, he.
Arman Tsarukian
Well, that Bryce Mitchell fight that you were Speaking about, he won that fight by submission, Armin.
Unknown
I mean, Bryce Mitchell. Bryce Mitchell. He was. He was. He used. He grew up with wrestling.
Arman Tsarukian
No, no, he didn't. No, he didn't.
Unknown
He didn't. I mean, maybe he's a good guy, but not the best fighter. I mean, I watched his last fight. I mean, he's striking is. It's crazy where he trains, even.
Arman Tsarukian
Enjoy your vacation, champ. Thank you for joining me, man. I appreciate it. Hey, have fun. You can keep that caviar to yourself. I don't want that. I don't care if it's the most expensive caviar in the world. I'm not eating it. That is terrible. Salty.
Unknown
No, no, you gotta. You gotta come Russia, bro, and try there, brother. And you're gonna change your mind, brother.
Arman Tsarukian
I might as well take a thing of salt and just pour it in my face. That's how this tastes.
Unknown
No, no, because. Because he. He don't try the good one. But okay, one day. One day. When UFC comes to Russia.
Arman Tsarukian
Yes.
Unknown
We go and try all Cavs black caviars. Yeah.
Arman Tsarukian
Guys, thank you. That's Armand Tsarukian, the number one contender for the lightweight championship of the world, is hoping he gets a shot against Ilot Toria. Go. Follow everything Arman's doing. He is the man. Yo, your Instagram is hilarious, bro. I don't know where you get the cars from. I don't know where you get all this stuff, man, but your Instagram is hilarious.
Unknown
It's a thing, brother. Fake.
Arman Tsarukian
All right, Arman, thank you.
Unknown
Thank you. Bye Bye.
Arman Tsarukian
My man.

Podcast Summary: The Herd with Colin Cowherd
Episode: Daniel Cormier TV - Arman Tsarukyan on Ilia Topuria KO vs. Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev
Release Date: July 2, 2025
In this episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, hosted by iHeartPodcasts and The Volume, Colin engages in an in-depth conversation with Arman Tsarukyan, the number one contender in the lightweight division of the UFC. The discussion delves into recent developments in the lightweight rankings, Arman's experiences with weight cutting, his views on top fighters like Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira, and his aspirations for future championship bouts.
The conversation kicks off with Arman addressing the cancellation of his anticipated fight with Islam Makhachev. He clarifies that the fight was not called off due to weight issues but rather due to a medical problem. Arman states:
“They checked my back and made the right decision. It wasn't a weight issue, it was a medical issue.” [04:15]
He expresses frustration with how Dana White and Joe Rogan handled the situation, feeling misrepresented and sidelined despite his readiness and discipline in training.
Arman emphasizes his disciplined approach to weight management, countering rumors about his ability to make weight:
“I've never had an issue with my weight cut. I'm professional, disciplined, and I never eat outside my diet.” [05:00]
He recounts the physical toll the weight cut took on him, including overtraining and dehydration that led to back pain, ultimately resulting in medical advice to withdraw from the fight.
A significant portion of the discussion centers around Ilia Topuria’s recent knockout victory over Charles Oliveira. Arman offers a technical breakdown of Topuria’s fighting style and his own perceptions of Oliveira’s vulnerabilities:
“Topuria is the best boxer in our division right now, and he’s a formidable striker. However, Oliveira has demonstrated weaknesses like a lack of a strong chin and ineffective kicks.” [06:51]
Arman expresses surprise at Topuria’s swift knockout, acknowledging the latter’s impressive first-round performance while maintaining confidence in his own abilities to potentially overcome Topuria’s strengths.
Colin brings up the topic of rankings, highlighting that Ilia Topuria has ascended to the number one pound-for-pound spot in ESPN MMA rankings. Arman concurs with the ranking but remains focused on his path to the championship:
“Ilia deserves to be number one, but I believe I should be fighting for the title next. I'm a real contender and can beat Topuria.” [22:56]
He critiques the UFC’s decision-making, particularly Joe Rogan’s role in matchups, and expresses his desire to face Topuria or other top contenders like Justin Gaethje and Pat-Pimblett in future bouts.
Arman delves into his strategy for combating top fighters, emphasizing his versatility and well-rounded skill set:
“It's not just about wrestling; I'm a well-rounded fighter. I'll strike, kick, and utilize clinch work to control the fight.” [18:49]
He contrasts his approach with other fighters, highlighting his ability to adapt and exploit opponents’ weaknesses, particularly in grappling and takedowns.
Throughout the episode, Arman shares personal anecdotes that shed light on his character and dedication to the sport. For instance, he humorously discusses his experience with tasting caviar, reflecting on his cultural ties and personal preferences:
“I can’t eat this stuff, man. It was terrible. So salty.” [25:30]
These moments provide a glimpse into Arman’s personality outside the octagon, adding depth to his profile as an athlete.
