So coming back now, it's like such a different situation, right? Cuz the first time we did it in Vegas, it was all love. Everybody was in love with Patty the Baddy. And then we talked when Jon Jones was fighting, I think, and I said, Patty, like fame, right? There's two sides to it. And you're like, yeah, it sucks. And then you said to me the funniest I've ever heard, he said, thank God for Ian Garrett. You like, Were you like thank God he ends on that. Cuz everybody's kind of like leaving me the alone. How's it been now, right? Cuz it's almost like you had this resurgence, right? Cuz you had the, the, the mental awareness where you you talked about mental health and everybody's like, yo, now I remember why I love this kid so much. Like, how's everything been now since all that?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Well, as you say, like fame and whatever you'd call. There's a double edged sword, isn't it? You know what I mean? Some people love you, some people like you. It's. I'm used to it like that being getting like trolled and stuff like that for years, since I was a young kid fighting amateur. So it's, it's not new to me. I just take it all on me stride.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Yeah, it's been good to watch most times. Patty, when a guy comes in with a lot of hype, right. Conor McGregor for one. You another, any when guys come in with hype, especially when you guys are European, we as Americans are, as MMA fans, is like, when are they gonna fall? When are they gonna fall? Somebody's gonna get this dude. He's not that good. Somebody's gonna beat him. Conor ultimately became the champion. You, it was Bobby Green's gonna get him. Because look at what Bobby did to the kid from American Top Team. What was the kid's name? American Top Team that he knocked out?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Grant Dawson.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Grant Dawson, who was like another young prospect. You didn't only beat Bobby or King Green, you beat him in a dominant way. And everybody still wonders when's he going to get got. But I don't know that you're going to get got. It's like everything you said, everything you said is really coming, coming true.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, that's it. You've got to, you've got to speed things into reality. You've got to like visualize, as people say. I like when I've done a little game with some before name like winner stays on, Paddy Pimblett and like they named every lightweight. And I said me every time.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Yeah.

[Paddy Pimblett]

I always think, what's, what's the point in doing this sport if you think anyone in your weight division can beat you?

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Yeah.

[Paddy Pimblett]

You've got to know and think that you're the best in the world. And that's what I do. I think I'm the best in the world. People laugh at me for it, but it's one of them. I think I am the best in the world. And over the coming years, I want to prove that.

Take me back to that night though, when you fought Green and he's a tremendous striker, right. And you didn't look nervous. You look big. You look real big in the octagon. Big and strong. When you took him down, it looked like you guys were on, like, just a completely different level. And I don't know, Patty, that you had submissions in the ufc, but it never looked as clean as it did in that fight. What, on that night back in Manchester, like, walk me through, like, what you were feeling going into that fight and when the fight started, why you fought so well and did you feel it all coming together? Like, this is going to be my performance that people will talk about until ultimately I think I'll become the champion.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, I felt good going into the fight, you know what I mean? Everything was once after was having a bad time, about six weeks out or something, but then after that, everything went a bit more smooth. That it wasn't the smoothest fight camp, this has been a smoother one. But I just know levels, you know what I mean? There's levels to this game. And everyone said I was going to get knocked out on the feet and piece up, and I think I was winning the cycle on the feet, you.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Know what I mean?

[Paddy Pimblett]

I was like kicking them off. I hit him in a couple, couple of jobs. I don't think he got it with one head strike. And then obviously I kicked his leg out and he ended up. People keep thinking he shot in, but it was.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

It looked like he shot because it looked like you heard him.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, I leg kicked him and he. He had the decision to either try and grab my leg or end up on all fours and me take his back. So obviously he went for the option of taking me down and triangles. My submission.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

That's such a nice.

[Paddy Pimblett]

As soon as I jumped into that guillotine and I had his arm there, I was like, yeah, triangle. And it was crazy, cuz we were saying all the way through camp, like, if I get his arm, I don't think he'll tap. I'm gonna have to snap it, put him.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Yeah.

[Paddy Pimblett]

And then. But he was asleep, know what I mean?

[Daniel Jeremiah]

He went straight to sleep.

[Paddy Pimblett]

I think it was a late stoppage by the ref, to be honest.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

That is happening a lot lately, Dude. There was one a few weeks ago that was really bad with the hits on the side of the head. I can't remember who it was, but there was one recently, it was in Mexico. It was really bad. One kid was out, Drew Dober was out so bad. And then Drew gets up and he starts complaining.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, yeah.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

He's like, he's fighting the ref, dude. I'm like, yo, it's over, bro.

[Paddy Pimblett]

12 strikes to the side. Yes. And he was basically already out.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

He was Out. But yeah, we gotta be a little better about that. So you beat, you beat King Green and you were very adamant early. I'm not going to do nothing I'm not comfortable with. I'm going to fight the guys that they put in front of me. But when it's time to fight the best guys, I want to be, I want to be paid for it. I want to be fighting when I'm ready. You start getting names. Was Michael Chandler the first name you got?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

To fight coming back?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, he was. A few of the ones got mentioned, know what I mean? But Chandler was the one what got said and I was like, yeah, definitely, let's do this. Yeah, like me manager said you could. You. You may end up fighting him. You may end up fighting him. But then he spoke to Hunter and he got mentioned Chandler and I got the phone call. I was like, yeah, definitely. And I had to wait a few days to see if he said, yeah. And then like three days later and then we're getting the phone call, like a week, two weeks before Christmas and just celebrating this.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Yeah, that's what I was going to wonder. Like, were you excited?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, I couldn't, couldn't stop walking up and down in the house, like jumping up and down, ringing people like fighting Chandler.

Why?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Just cuz it's finally someone in the top 10 and finally stepping up to where I know I deserve to be. And I'm gonna take rank seven and I can't wait for it. Like, I really can't.

The thing that's surprising to me is that we're finally starting to get or feel like we're getting to a point where the guys at 155 are willing to kind of look down to say, okay, I guess it's my time to fight these guys. And if they're ready, I guess they'll pass me. Gaethje did it with Fizzie, right. And I was very surprised. Poirier did it with Benoit St. Denis. I was very surprised on that one because when he. I made fun of Benoison Denis for calling him out because I was like, there's no way it's happening. Then he got the fight. Now you and Michael Chandler, for so long, 155at the top has been those names, right? Oliveira, Chandler, Poirier, Gaethje. Now that it feels like we're changing over, like, how quickly do you think that you can start to not only get through Michael Chandler, but starts to play in another guy and then work your way ultimately to a championship fight?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, Well, I think I could be fighting for the title next year. Beat Michael Chandler, and my plan is to come back and fight in Abu Dhabi on that pay per view in October, beat Charles Justin Poirier, and then I'll be number one contender as long as I beat one of them. But I think the old guard is starting to phase out. Like I was talking about it before, think about eight fighters in the top 10 at over 35.

Yeah. So that's hard at that. It's hard at those weights.

Heavyweights you can fight till you're in the 40s. Right. But down at 155 and below, being in your mid-30s is very difficult.

Yeah.

Do you think it shows itself this weekend, you and Michael Chandler?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, I think it shows itself this weekend. You know, Chandler's already been always been known as like, fast and explosive. Explosive. And I think I'm on an expose that he's not fast anymore. He's not as explosive as he once was. His knees are terrible. He's not going to be able to have as good movements. And I'm going to take that away from him also. Everyone as well thinks that he's a better wrestler than me, though. Maybe when it comes to like American wrestling.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Yeah. Put some wrestler shoes on.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, he is a better wrestler than me. But when it comes to MMA wrestling, I think Charles exposed him.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

You think you can out wrestle Michael Chandler?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah.

Seriously?

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, if I want to take my.

At the body. You mean like go to not. Not grabbing his legs? Like grabbing him.

You think you could single leg Michael Chandler? Yeah, Patty, come on. Yeah, dude. Charles took him down with body locks.

I took him down with a double leg at once.

He double legged Michael Chandler.

He actually did them. And then he grabbed a single and pushed his head and took him down that way. We've studied a load of tape. You know what I mean? I've got a breakdown of Michael Chandler there. And his wrestling isn't as good as everyone thinks it is.

And what, because, well, he's an all American, so it's like, oh, my God, he's a great wrestler.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Exactly.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

But what is. What do you see when you see Michael Chan, especially Charles Oliveira fight? Because this is my next question and I don't want it to be. I don't want it to feel disrespectful to Michael Chandler. Because I. I know Mike for a long time. I like Mike. What did you see in that Oliveira fight? Because it did seem to me like Charles kind of just beat him up.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah, right.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

And then Mike had that moment at the end, and he's kind of gotten into this place where it's almost like the Diaz brothers, where no matter what happens, you remember poor Leon Edwards beats the shit out of Nate Diaz. He gets caught, he gets pointed at. It's like that's all anybody talked about.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

So he's kind of like, entered into that area of where it's almost like everything's forgiven as long as he has a moment.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

But when you break him down, truthfully, what did you see in that fight?

[Paddy Pimblett]

As you say, he got dominated. He had that one moment in the fifth where he dropped him, but he then got his back, took and controlled that.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

He jumped up and threw him backwards.

[Paddy Pimblett]

If he tries to jump up him backwards with me, I'm gonna choke him.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

Yeah.

[Paddy Pimblett]

There's so many. Like, I know Charles gets called the best submission artist ever in the UFC because he's got the most submissions, but I. I will submit Michael Chandler.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

You said that somewhere that you feel like you're submission skills are on that level with ol Are better.

[Paddy Pimblett]

Yeah. I've got a more of a killer instinct when it comes to submissions, where he's more like. He's more jiu jitsu, where I'm MMA grappling. Like, I'm not as good when it's straight jiu jitsu.

So Mike Mike's in, Michael Chandler's in a bit of a very tough situation. He's 2 and 4 in his UFC career, right? So he's a big star, but he hasn't won at the level that he needs to. So it's a little bit crossroads for him and it happens to a lot of fighters as they age. They get a Patty Pimlet or another young up and coming guy. You're more of a established guy, but that's trying to break his way into the championship fighting. Then you have the veteran, the grizzled guy that's been around forever. But when you have lost more than you've won inside the ufc, at times that can cause some desperation. Do you expect Michael Chandler to be more aggressive, more desperate on Saturday night? Because he needs to win and he needs to win. He's got to win impressively. So do you expect him to give you more openings early because of that pressure that he's going to feel to get a victory?

[Paddy Pimblett]

He gives everyone openings. He comes out very aggressive in every fight and blows his load a bit toward the end of every round. He's tired, know what I mean? I know his cardio is good and I know he's an absolute machine. But if you watch his fight, the first minute, he's twitchy, dead, explosive, dead movie. But towards the end of the round, he's labored and he's slow and he's flat footed and it's going to play into my hands. As you say, he loves to entertain the crowd. And I know we all know his game plan. He's going to come out and throw over on right, left hook and right on the body, left hook. He's going to sign, copy what Jared Gordon done. But it's not going to work for them, you know, got a perfect game plan. It's going to get implemented on them. I can seriously see myself knocking them out on the feet. They never migrating the floor.

What's the excitement level to fight here in Miami? This is a great dude. It's great. The fights here are great.

[Paddy Pimblett]

I've never been to Miami for before and it's, it's beautiful. It's a great city. Yeah, we've been here since Thursday night and fully enjoyed all of it. Just can't wait to be able to to eat a Cuban sandwich once I beat Michael Chandler.

[Daniel Jeremiah]

That shit's good, Patty. Yeah, I know how you get big after a fight, dude. Cuban sandwiches, like that's part of the reason I come to Miami every year. They're like, yo, we're going back to Miami. I'm like, Cuban Sandwich, Cuban food. The is fantastic.

Mexican food there. Looks delightful as well.

So good. It's so good. It's actually perfect. Patty, last one for you. Chill. Son and I were talking on our show the other day for espn and I said, I posed this question because he's a massive Paddy Pimbler guy. Like, he's your guy. He's rooting for you and pushing you to a championship as much as anyone I've seen. I said, is there a world where Paddy Pimblet gets a title fight now because you beat Michael Chandler? Makhachev has beaten just about everybody in the top five already. Armand, they're not giving the title fight because he pulled out of that fight the night before. So he essentially has to fight again. Is there a world where you get a title fight off of this? And if not, I know you and Armand have some history. Would that be the guy that you'd want to fight in Abu Dhabi?

[Paddy Pimblett]

It'd be amazing if I got the Islam fights off finishing Chandler life. But I don't see it personally. You know what I mean? As you say, lost his last fight to Charles. He's lost to Poirier Justin. And people keep, people, people keep thinking that, like, Justin might get the title shot. So personally, I don't see me fighting Islam next. I'd love to.
