And if you have a gambling problem, call 1-800- GAMBLER yo guys, I'm joined by welterweight contender Sean Brady. Sean Brady, man, thanks for checking in with me. I appreciate it. Another big time fight. You know, watching you compete, it seems as though we should have got here sooner, right? Pay per view, big spots, big time, you know, media obligations. Why do you think it took so long for people to kind of take notice of what you were doing down in Philadelphia and really appreciate what you're doing in terms of your fighting style?
Sean Brady
I think the Leon fight like really put me on the map, but I'm not like one of those super outspoken guys. Like I'm not doing any crazy shit on social media, anything like that. But I think my fighting style is finally starting to speak for me. The Gilbert fight, the Leon fight, and now taking this fight, everyone sees it as like, oh, he's so highly ranked and this guy's behind us, but we're all fighters. A guy who's. A guy who's not even in the UFC could fuck somebody up who's in the ufc, like, rankings and shit like that don't matter. So winning fights is all that matters to me. I'm going to go out there Saturday, win fights, win the fans over, and just keep rolling.
Interviewer / Host
Do you think. Did you ever think at times, like, man, maybe I should be a little bit more outspoken, I should do a little bit more to try to draw people in? Because it's hard whenever you know what you bring. Yeah. And it's like, man, I'm working in silence, and I appreciate it, but I'd like to get some of that shit. Like the new Battle sponsorship.
NBA on Prime Announcer
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
You know they got dudes with monster sponsorships that don't even win.
Sean Brady
I know, I know, but. And I tried that before. I did. I tried it with Ballal, and I tried talking shit on Twitter, and that shit bit me in my ass. And to be honest, when I fought below, I was confident. That was the one fight in my. I'm like, I'm going to beat this guy a million out of a million times.
Interviewer / Host
Why?
Sean Brady
And I lost that fight because I was just so confident in it. Like, I didn't think ball was that good, and. But now I'm like, everyone's good. I treat everything so much differently now. And I learned so much from that fight. I tried to be something I wasn't, and now I'm just true to myself. I do what I do. I train, I post a little bit on social media. I got my own little line of clothes that I'm doing. I got my own shit going, but I'm not. I'm not going outside my wheelhouse. I. I color in between my lines, and I just keep doing what I'm doing.
Interviewer / Host
How. How big of an. How big of a. How big was that? Well, was it of a help for you to be followed as it was before the Leon fight? Because I don't watch that.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
What is that thing called again? Whenever they're following you before?
Sean Brady
Journey.
Interviewer / Host
Journey.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
I don't watch that, but I watch yours.
Sean Brady
Twice.
Interviewer / Host
I did it twice, but I watched the last one.
Sean Brady
Yeah. Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
And everything you were saying going into that fight against the former champion, it came true.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
Do you think that even maybe that allowed for you to be propelled into that spot? Right. Because now you're in the third fight from the top on a pay per view, on a title, on a card that has Two title fights, big time fight card, Madison Square Garden.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
How much do you think that helped? Right. Getting those cameras in front of you and then not only delivering, but being able to go after the fight and go, I told y'.
Zyn Nicotine Pouches Advertiser
All.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
Why didn't you look at the camera and just go, didn't I tell you?
Sean Brady
Yeah, I mean, I kind of did. There's a nice clip on there. It was like two weeks before the fight. They're like, I said, I'm going to submit leon Edwards in the 02 arena, and then they play it back after. So it's cool. But it's just me believing in myself. And now that I'm doing that and I'm winning these fights, I think people are starting to get behind me. And taking the Leon fight on short notice, doing what I did, I feel like that definitely catapulted me up to the spot we're at now.
Interviewer / Host
Yeah. Being the former champion, but then beating Gilbert Burns, too, was also big because of how much people appreciate him. Were you surprised, though, at the Leon Edwards fight? I was surprised. I knew you were good, Sean, but I don't know if. Yeah, like, that was crazy. You just dominated.
Sean Brady
I mean, but if you follow me and my coaches or if you're in the room, like, that's what I do. Like, I'm not. I've never even showed what I'm capable of 100% in the cage, and that's the crazy thing, so. But I'm more confident in myself than I ever have been. So more and more of me just keeps coming out in the future fights. So I wasn't surprised. Like, I knew, like, I'm, I'm about to, I'm about to dog this.
Interviewer / Host
Okay, so how far have we come, right? Think about this.
Sean Brady
You forgot my name, bro.
Interviewer / Host
Think about this. We're sitting here right now, and one time you fought a wonderful fight, and after I finished interviewing you, I knew your name. Trust me, I knew your name. I just had, like, a brain fart. No, because we're fighters, right? Sometimes all the punches in the head, but how far have we come, right? I didn't forget your name. I knew who you were.
Sean Brady
It's all right.
Interviewer / Host
But in that moment, I, I, I kind of forgot your name.
Sean Brady
I was like, all right, I will.
Interviewer / Host
Never forget my name again.
Sean Brady
Well, you just said, you said my name. You said, like, I'm gonna forget my name. You just said you're gonna forget your name, not my name. You just messed.
Interviewer / Host
I would never.
Sean Brady
Sorry. You just. No, you just had a Brain fart. It's all right again, we're gonna keep. We're just gonna.
Interviewer / Host
I'm 46 years old, man. I'm old.
Sean Brady
We're move past it. But no, I mean, I feel like my career is definitely going the way I want it to go. It's kind of slow playing out, but I haven't, like, I had some injuries, I had some bullshit going, like. But now I think I'm in a great stride. I'm not. I'm the healthiest I've ever been. I'm on a nice little role. I want to fight earlier in the year than this, but getting to be on this card, end of the year. End the year, right. I feel great.
Interviewer / Host
When you look around the landscape of mixed martial arts and you see we have no male American champions, we see we have no male Americans ranked in the top 10, found profound. And then when they start talking about the people that could potentially be that, right. You know who's number one? It's Sean Brady. Everybody's like, well, Sean Brady might be that guy.
Sean Brady
I'm already highly ranked. But like, yes, we got me, we got Joe Pifer, we got guys.
Interviewer / Host
Yeah. But even that though, like, even that though, right, you're highly ranked. You just beat a former champion. So it lends itself to the idea that you're on a short list of Americans. Do you enjoy that or does that bring a little bit of pressure? Like, man, I. Cause I did. I felt the pressure of being an American champion when I was fighting.
Sean Brady
No, I enjoy it, but I think Americans need to get behind. We need to get behind our own more. Like, you see all these, the Russians, all these different countries, when they could be one fighter that's not even that good. They're having fucking parties back home, doing all this crazy shit for their guys. And us over here, we're just like, man, because we have all these other sports and I don't think we appreciate what we have. So I'm trying to get behind all American fighters. I think we need to support our own more. And I'm going to be repping the American flag at the weigh ins when I walk out. And yeah, I'm proud to be an American and I will be an American champion. I just don't know when I'm going to get it, but it's coming.
Interviewer / Host
Well, it starts like with beating former champs.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
But coming off beating a former champion, then fighting a highly regarded prospect, very different.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
When you get the call that this is the next fight, how do you take that? Because I would imagine you were expecting something different. Dude, we had conversations that maybe you shouldn't be fighting for the title right now. Before Makhachev came up to challenge for the welterweight championship, what went into the decision to fight Morales?
Sean Brady
Yeah, first, like. And I didn't even think I was gonna get a title shot. I was thinking maybe it was gonna be Usman, Ian, somebody else. And then they said, morales, I'm like, at the end of the day, I'm a fighter, and I'm gonna fight. Winning solves everything. Like, you know, you go out there, you win shit, more shit's going to come. So I'm going to go out there, beat Morales, and then if I get the title shot next, great. I would love to fight JDM if he wins. I would love to fight Islam if he wins. But if I don't get it next, I'm really not, like, I'm not. I'm not going to be upset.
Interviewer / Host
But why. Why are you so patient whenever your resume says that you should be in consideration?
Sean Brady
Because if I try to rush it and I try to do something that's not. If I try to take something that's not for me, something bad is going to happen. So whatever my path is, that's my path, and I'm not going to rush it, you know? You know, I want to fight for a long time, and I want to just keep winning fights, and I just want to. I want to compete, and that's the biggest thing. I just want to go out there and compete.
Interviewer / Host
Have you tried to fight like, the Kamaru, Usmans and those guys?
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
Have you asked?
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
And what happened?
Sean Brady
Nothing. Usman's out till I asked for. I asked for Usman, I asked for Bilal, I asked for Ian Garry. We were matched up twice.
Interviewer / Host
Well, that, that. But you and Ian Garry. We were supposed to, but then Bilal got Ian Garry fight.
Sean Brady
We were supposed to fight in August in Chicago. I said yes. We were supposed to be the main event in Vancouver. I said yes. And I'm not saying he's ducking me.
Interviewer / Host
So what happened then?
Sean Brady
If you don't know, I don't know. I don't know what. I don't know what happened, but.
Interviewer / Host
So what happened when you're matched up and then the fight doesn't happen? Is he getting injured?
Sean Brady
I don't know. I don't know.
Interviewer / Host
What do you mean, you don't know? The kid just say shut.
Ryan Seacrest
The fight's off.
Interviewer / Host
We're gonna have to ask.
Sean Brady
Lloyd, get over here.
NBA on Prime Announcer
Lloyd.
Interviewer / Host
Lloyd, get over here. We're gonna ask Lloyd what happened?
Sean Brady
Didn't happen.
Interviewer / Host
Why didn't it happen? Lloyd, was it. They were Matt. You guys were matched up. Pen the paper.
Sean Brady
Not pen the paper. It was. It was close to pen the paper.
Interviewer / Host
And then what happened?
Sean Brady
It just never came there. It just never.
Interviewer / Host
Oh, look at Joe. Joe will say something just never had.
Sean Brady
I see. And I. People try to say. I say, ian scared. I don't think Ian's scared of anybody. He fought shotgun shortness far protest on shortness. I don't think he's scared of anybody. I don't know what he was trying to do.
Interviewer / Host
Get.
Sean Brady
I don't know, but it just didn't happen. And then now here we are, and now I'm fighting Morales and he's fighting Bilal. So, yeah, I don't know, but I asked for Usman, I asked for Gary, I asked for Bilal. Who else is ranked? I asked for Shavkat here. I asked for all of them.
Interviewer / Host
Yeah.
Sean Brady
And then I get Morales, and then I'm like, all right, fuck it. I'm gonna go beat this kid, and then I'll get one of you guys later.
Interviewer / Host
So, yeah, taking the Morales fight, he's a very good young prospect.
Sean Brady
Yeah, for sure.
Interviewer / Host
But in terms of style matchups, it would seem to be one that suits you.
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
Do you see that? And go. There's dangers in this fight, but not necessarily as much, because I think I can control him with my wrestling grappling.
Sean Brady
There's dangers in everything. Like, I've watched a lot of your career, especially getting ready for this fight. You're shorter for the division, but you go out there and you implement your game, put the pressure on guys, and no matter who you were fighting, you got the job done. And that's exactly how I think of it. Like, no matter who it is, I know I stack up better. And I'm going to do exactly what I do to the guys in the gym. I'm just going to go out there and do it to him, and I'm going to win, you know, And I think I can do that to anybody in the world, I think. And even if you stuff my takedowns, I know how to fight on the feet, I know how to win fights, and I'll make it dirty and I'll win. I think I'm the best at knowing how to win. Win rounds. And, yeah, I think. I think I stack up well against anybody in the world.
Interviewer / Host
So what does Saturday night look like for you?
Sean Brady
Domination. And then I get my hand raised, and then hopefully The UFC lets me sit right there and watch the title fight and not kick me out, and I get to see what happens in the total.
Interviewer / Host
Did you see when Bilal. Did you see when Bilal was trying to get in the ring after that fight? Yeah, that was crazy. Was that the craziest shit you've ever seen?
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
And Rogan goes. He's the champion.
Sean Brady
Don't, don't.
Interviewer / Host
I'm just asking, Jon. Did you see that?
Sean Brady
Yes. It was crazy.
Interviewer / Host
What were you thinking? Like, oh, my God.
Sean Brady
It was crazy. It was just. I think the law gets a lot of hate for no reason.
Interviewer / Host
He's good, though, man.
Sean Brady
He is good, and I think he gets a lot of hate for no reason. But that's a fight that I want to get back just as a competitor. I know. I want to fight him again.
Interviewer / Host
If you were the champ and then you were trying to get in the ring and the security was stopping, you.
Sean Brady
Probably forget my name.
Interviewer / Host
No, that was one time, bro, but that was like, yo, who's crazy trying to get in here? Say this. We were in the apex. It was kind of boring.
Sean Brady
It was.
Interviewer / Host
The fight wasn't boring.
Sean Brady
No, I get it.
Interviewer / Host
I was tired and I had a brain fog. It's hard, but, you know, sometimes I forget my own name, bro. See, I just did it again.
Sean Brady
I'd be cutting weight. I began punching the head. I know how it goes.
Interviewer / Host
I was shorter for the weight class. I got hit a lot.
Sean Brady
I get hit. You expect Joey be punching me in my shoes.
Interviewer / Host
You accept my apology?
Sean Brady
Yeah.
Interviewer / Host
All right, man.
NBA on Prime Announcer
We're good.
Interviewer / Host
