Danny G
Got Puka Nukua to talk about some NFL. By the way, speaking of the NFL, I mean maybe we misunderstood it yesterday. We did break the news but originally we thought it was or should I say Dan Buyer broke the news. But on this show, Russell Wilson, one year, $21 million.
Cavino
It's really $10 million with the possibility of 21 mil. So I ask you this. I look at him and Justin Fields as the two headed quarterback in Pittsburgh that went their separate ways, right? Cause remember, it was like we were all sort of confused like would you go with Russ or would you go with Justin Fields? It seems as though the Rest of the league thinks there's way more value in Justin Fields. Two years, 40 mil with the jets where Russ gets a one year deal, 10 plus incentives, that could be 20. So do you look at Russell Wilson as like that much less valuable than Justin Fields? Because apparently everyone else does.
Rich Davis
How crazy that both of them wound up in New York.
Cavino
I thought about that after we left too yesterday.
Danny G
Well, yeah, it happened so suddenly, you know, it took us a minute to process the situation. Like wow, damn. Well, what about Rogers? What about Sanders? Like the Giants got Russell Wilson back in New York and I say back in New York because remember he did a little spring training with the Yankees.
Rich Davis
Also cove. How about what it means for some of the other teams at the top of the draft that are quarterback needy.
Cavino
Then you got to ask yourself also besides that, Danny, I'm thinking even another, another layer when you see guys like Justin Fields getting 20, Russ 10 plus incentives. Brock Purdy's probably still waiting around. Like that doesn't bode well for him. You get to pay Brock Purdy 50, $60 million when teams are getting guys like Russ for 10 or Justin Fields for 20. Like Brock Purdy's price tag may have dropped into the the 40s.
Danny G
Where I think the Giants looked at it this way. I'm going to quote the great Aaron Boone of the New York Yankees. He was asked about Aaron Boone. He was asked about Alex Verdugo's one year deal with the Braves for like $1.5 million. He says something along along the lines of they got a solid big league player for a little bit of money. And I feel like that's the same thing with Russell Wilson. He's not the same Russell Wilson. But you got a solid NFL quarterback. Yeah, he's on his downward trajectory. He's not the same guy he was. But you got a guy who could play the position for not that much. You got to make that move.
Cavino
Yeah, but the perception of Russell Wilson has changed. You said it right before you went on the air. He was one Marshawn lynch run away from being a back to back super bowl champion.
Danny G
He went from superstar in Seattle to didn't work out in Denver, then Steelers.
Cavino
Now the Giants, then the whole, the Mr. Unlimited and the cringy stuff like.
Danny G
And it all happened so fast.
Cavino
Oh my goodness, what a, what a change.
Danny G
So this is his last hurrah. And we're seeing live coverage as we speak. He's live at a news conference in New York for the Giants. So that story broke yesterday. You had a day to process it.
Cavino
I'm glad you said New York, because my first dumb question of the day has nothing to do with LeBron. We're going to get there. We're going to get to Jimmy Butler. And Jose Canseco's in the news for a funny reason. And you said puka Nakua, one of our good pals, a regular on the show. We'll get to all that. But my wife is cooking something for dinner tonight. Everyone grab a pen. Danny G. I was saying, everyone grab a pen. I want you to write down this word because I want to hear all of you pronounce it. My wife's a Southern Texan. I'm from New York. Cavito. And spotted from Jersey, Dan Byers, a Midwest dude. Write down this word and I want to hear you pronounce it. Okay. M A, N, man.
Danny G
I. Oh, sorry.
Cavino
Good eye. M A, N, I. C, O, T, T, I. An Italian dish my wife is preparing tonight. Well, hold on. Let's start with Iowa. Samuel, how do you pronounce that meal? Well, I could pronounce it like one of the guys. I don't know. How do you say it?
Rich Davis
I say manicotti.
Cavino
Danny G. How do you say it?
Rich Davis
The way my grandma said it. She said Manakota.
Cavino
Yeah. Okay. Everyone's saying manacote. Damn. Buyer.
Rich Davis
I would say manicate. Not e, but tay.
Cavino
Hey.
Danny G
Oh, I pronounce it the same way Paulie Walnuts pronounce it?
Cavino
Yeah.
Danny G
Gc. Like God, man, I got.
Cavino
And spots. Got a flow to it.
Rich Davis
If you're gonna say the Italian way would be manicotti.
Danny G
You bounce the T's. Manicotti.
Cavino
Or if you're like an east coast Italian guy. Man, I got with the G. Like my wife said, tonight I'm making manicotti. And I just think that. Nothing wrong with that. To me, it just sounds so weird being an east coast guy making manicotti. Are there any regional words that just drive you bonkers?
Danny G
Oh, there's. Yeah, there's a ton of them. People have different ways of saying all sorts of things. It's like when your wife or certain people say pop, I'm like, who says pop? I know it's not a mispronunciation.
Cavino
Midwestern.
Danny G
Yo, that's soda, bro. Do you have my tennis sneakers? I'm like, who you?
Cavino
Jimmy Connors? Can I tell you, that's the one I don't want to hold. Those are sneakers. There's too much to get to. But you just nailed my number one answer on the board. So either we Share a brain or we're on the same track. When my wife calls my kids sneakers like, Ben, Emmy, grab your tennis shoes. I'm like, tennis shoes? What are they? Stephanie Graff, Are we sneaking around? Johnny Max, are the shoes for sneaking? Yeah, but they're sneakers. If I got a pair of Jordans, what am I wearing now? What are these?
Danny G
Much like manigaut and manicotti. It's just, I think it's a regional thing.
Cavino
These, these low top dunks. These are sneakers. These are not tennis shoes.
Danny G
Those are weakers because those are pan pandas. People hate pandas. Weakers.
Rich Davis
How dare you seeing spot. I was gonna say some people. Some people say supper.
Danny G
That's like your grandparent.
Cavino
Yeah, my mother in law and father in law who just left, they were here for like a week or so, visiting every night. You grandkids ready for supper. And every night I'm like, supper.
Rich Davis
It makes you cringe a little bit.
Cavino
What is this little house on the pr?
Danny G
I know you're a product of your environment. Not to state the obvious, because I probably would pronounce it manicotti if I wasn' surrounded by a bunch of sausage fingered bacha galoops. Growing up, Growing up in Jersey.
Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
There's not a lot of Italians in Iowa, I'll be honest.
Danny G
So it's, it's a fair assessment. It's just a. They're regional differences.
Rich Davis
You know?
Danny G
Is actually capicola.
Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Or like a nice brajule is also another dish. I thought Ben Maller invented that.
Cavino
But what type of cheese is on top of a slice of pizza? Iowa, Sam.
Rich Davis
Of course, if I was a child, if I was 15 years old, I'd say, just say the name.
Danny G
Just say it.
Cavino
But now I'm trying to make it authentic. How do you say mozzarella?
Rich Davis
There we go. Thank you.
Danny G
He reads like an Internet recipe. Scroll all the way down to the bottom.
Cavino
Now, I'd say a mozzarella, because I'm.
Danny G
Trying to be authentic, Right? You have to say fresh mozzarella.
Cavino
Mozzarella.
Rich Davis
Rich is trying to make a point. He just wants you to play along, Sam. So it's like when somebody asks you, how much does this cost? And if they want to show you what a deal they got, you say, oh, $500. And you go, Nope, 49.99. You don't say, 20 bucks. Yeah, just play along.
Cavino
I was Sam, as a guy, when you say Sam, if a genie granted you wishes, Sam would be like, I would want more wishes.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Cavino
Sam, you can smile, Sam.
Rich Davis
I am.
Cavino
What you should do, smiling.
Danny G
You gotta put a little quiver like John Travolta when you say mozzarella. Mozzarella. Fresh mozzarella. So this is all regional differences again. Rich and I and Spot, we're all from the east coast, so of course we're going to lean.
Rich Davis
Can I wrap this with one point from a listener? Sure.
Danny G
Please. Yeah, yeah.
Rich Davis
So I get a call in the studio lines the other day, and they said, look, they were nice about it. Rich. Tell Rich. It's Gonzaga. Not Gonzaga.
Cavino
Gonzaga.
Rich Davis
Yeah, because they're the Zags. They're the Zags.
Cavino
It's not Nevada.
Rich Davis
It's Nevada.
Danny G
You know, a lot of that happens, too, when you're not from the area. Right. Like when. Before we first moved out here, we would say Cali. And people like, no one says Cali. We would say San Fran. And then all of a sudden, people are saying, like, no one says San Fran.
Rich Davis
No one says Frisco, either.
Danny G
Yeah, so. And you know what? Being from Jersey, nobody says Joyce. I've lived there my whole life. I never heard one person say, listen to your. Yeah, she may. She says coffee, but she doesn't say Joyce. Anyways, all regional differences.
Cavino
Listen, I could tie it in. Get used to it, Sierra. Get used to it. Russell Wilson. Sierra's from Texas. Russell Wilson. Not a New Yorker. Played college at Wisconsin, was in the, you know, Pacific Northwest, then Pittsburgh. So, you know.
Danny G
You mean Russell Wilson's gonna have to say he's Mr. Unlimited? Oh, moving forward.
Cavino
Yeah, he's gonna have to change. He's gonna say, Mr. Unlimited. Get to Maddie. Mr. Mr. Mr. Unlimited. You gotta be Unlimited Gabagool.
Danny G
No, he just says Mr. Unleame. He doesn't finish it. So he has to adjust again. Once again. And, like, he posted on social media, he's been there before, starting all over again. But, man, that's a crazy roller coaster of a life when you have family.
Cavino
And, you know, a wife of note like Sierra. I'm not saying it's a big adjustment, but, hey, welcome to the Big Apple. Russell Wilson, it's moving to New York again. Not. Not for everyone. So it should be an interesting thing because he's a very personable guy, awkward and cringy, as many have said, but the New York media and Russell Wilson, to be determined.
Danny G
Yeah, it's a fun storyline. I mean, if you're in it for the storyline, which we are. I can't wait to see.
Cavino
What if he. What if he blends in? All of a sudden he's, you know, you know, throwing out first pitches at the Yankees game. He's going to Broadway shows. What if he pulls an Aaron Rodgers successfully?
Danny G
Yeah, that worked. What is that word they say in Pittsburgh? Is it yin's, which means like you.
Rich Davis
All or like everyone?
Danny G
Now he's going from yin to saying, use guys.
Cavino
Use guys.
Rich Davis
Use guys.
Danny G
Use guys. Use guys. Need to block.
Cavino
That's how he started the press conference. He goes, I want to welcome you guys.
Rich Davis
Use guys.
Cavino
So, hey, enjoy your Taylor ham and your pizza. Russell Wilson with the Fresh mood set up now with Giants. Let me. Let me quiz you real quick.
Rich Davis
A little more experience with the state of Pennsylvania. If you go into the.
Cavino
Anywhere in the state of Pennsylvania, you.
Rich Davis
Order a lager, what kind of beer are you going to be getting?
Cavino
Well, Sam, is it Northern Pennsylvania or Allstate?
Rich Davis
Yingling.
Cavino
There you go. Very good. Yingling is.
Rich Davis
Give me a lager. Better be Yingling.
Cavino
Yingling.
Danny G
Yingling was my answer.
Cavino
Oh. How do you ding a ling if you go to Philadelphia, home of the super bowl champion Eagles? If you get a cheesesteak, how do you tell them you want it with cheese?
Rich Davis
Give me the whiz.
Cavino
Whiz. Whit.
Rich Davis
Whiz.
Danny G
Whit.
Rich Davis
No, whiz.
Danny G
Whit. Whiz.
Cavino
Whiz. Whit.
Danny G
With onions?
Cavino
Yeah, Whiz with onions and you get the works.
Danny G
Whiz.
Rich Davis
All right.
Cavino
Well, hey, there you go. Russell Wilson, New York. I just figured when. My wife just texted me. Well, little voice message. I'm making manicotti. I'm like, mel, you can't.
Danny G
It may grate your ears, but you can't blame her for that.
Cavino
She's from Paris.
Danny G
Great.
Cavino
Your ears. Did you just make a cheese joke?
Danny G
I did.
Rich Davis
Oh, very well done.
Danny G
You know, it's. It's just how it's really said.
Cavino
No doubt. No diggity. No doubt.
Danny G
How do you say sure bet? Sherbert.
Cavino
I always say sherbert, but I feel like that's wrong. It's sherbet.
Rich Davis
But who says that?
Danny G
My mom always says sherbet. Sure bet.
Cavino
No.
Danny G
Do you say crank calls or prank calls?
Cavino
Prank.
Rich Davis
Prank calls.
Danny G
No, prank calls. Maybe it's generational more than regional, but more. A lot of older folks say crank calls.
Rich Davis
That's funny.
Danny G
Maybe because my mom's so old she used to crank the telephone. I don't know.
Cavino
She's not that old.
Danny G
I don't know. She is. She's old.
Cavino
You know, interestingly enough, regional differences. I'll wrap it up with one thing that has probably killed all of our spring Diets. Have you guys finished all your Girl Scout cookies?
Danny G
No, I still got some Thin Mints in the freezer. Still got a few.
Cavino
Did you know there are two Girl Scout cookie factories? And based on where you live in the country, they're different. Is that mind blasting to everyone here? Did you know this? Like, there are.
Danny G
There's two distributors.
Cavino
Like, there's two distributors. So your Thin Mints in, I don't know, Minnesota may look different than the ones in California. Everything Tagalongs and Samoas. There are two different factories. So they are slightly different and called slightly different things.
Rich Davis
I thought I saw something like that with Dr. Pepper. Like if. Because Dr. Pepper isn't Coke and isn't Pepsi, it's its own company, but if it's bottled by a Pepsi distributor, it's in a different bottle than it would be if it was from a distributor.
Cavino
I didn't know that they do that for. What is it? Spot with mayonnaise, too?
Danny G
Oh, yeah. Hellman's and Best Foods. It's like west of the Rockies. She says it on the jars.
Cavino
Do you have Hellman's, Mayo or Best Foods?
Rich Davis
It's like Carl's Jr. And Hardee's. Yeah.
Cavino
So look at that. Sorry for the ridiculous conversation, but that's where ADD Radio brings you.
Danny G
He would see, like I said, when you see Russell Wilson, as he said it back in New York, it doesn't make you think of those regional differences. Now he has to say, mana got to fit in.
Cavino
Yeah. He can't be going to someplace in Hoboken, New Jersey, ordering the Maticotti.
Danny G
I gotta tell you, man, like, you know, I'm half Mexican, and when I go. And my sister's very Jersey American, when I go get Mexican with her and she orders taquitos, I want to vomit. I'm like, can you put a little, like. Just a little, like, taquito in it? She's like, I'll have some taquitos. I'm like, can you at least pretend like you have a little bit of a flair about you? A little quesadilla?
Cavino
Well, taquitos, before we get into LeBron, which I feel like there's so many great things he said on. It was a great interview. You got to give credit where credit's due. McAfee had a great sit down with LeBron. And there's one particular thing LeBron talked about that we got to dissect a little bit.
Danny G
Is it real or offensive? Or real offensive.
Cavino
Listen, something LeBron said I feel was so on the money. I got LeBron's back. There's something he said I couldn't agree with more. We'll get to that. Awkward returns, Jimmy Butler style, all that. But my last question about the New York Russell Wilson deal. You lived on the east coast most of your life. You'd been out in LA now for a while. But when you think of that local New York media, sports radio, sports tv, people still get newspapers in New York sometimes. Like, do you think the local New York press is going to embrace this?
Danny G
Russ Salzberg is going to get.
Cavino
Russ Salzburg, Water wolf is really. What do you think? Do you think, Russ, you think because the expectation you're coming off a 3 and 14 season, they can't expect this guy to light it up and be a playoff team?
Danny G
Yeah. But I'll tell you what, as we watch the live coverage, unless this is a smiling. Yeah, it looks like he's really having fun up there. He's smiling a lot. Looks real personable. I think New York gravitates toward that sort of personality. Like, he looks like he's having fun up there. It looks. It looks visually really great right now. We don't know what he's saying, but it looks like body language wise, body language wise, it looks like he's having a great time up there. And I would imagine New York's embracing this moment. So we'll see.
Cavino
All right. Well, hey, we're going to talk LeBron coming up. We got a lot of fun to get to on today's Cavino Rich show. Could someone please, during the break, has Malik Neighbors commented on this? I'm not saying he has, but he has spoken on social media in the past. I'm curious if he's positively or vaguely referenced the Russell Wilson Wilson signing because now that's Malik Neighbors who was like under the radar sick last year. Like, you know, because he was on such a bunk team. You forget what a great year Malik Neighbors had. So curious what he thinks going to Russell Wilson now as his go to guy, as he continues to emerge into one of the best receivers, it all.
Danny G
Comes down to how he plays like him. And Bruce Beck may be chumming it up right now, but I'm telling you, it's just a matter of how he plays. He could be having fun today. They could bury him tomorrow if he stinks it up.
Cavino
Yeah, true. Double true. All right. Hey, coming up again, LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Jose Canseco, a bunch of random fun stories we'll dissect here on Cavino and Rich. Hang tight.
Danny G
Tires matter they're the only part of your vehicle that touches the road. How do you say road? Is that regional funny word. One of those funny words like limit. And they're responsible for everything. Acceleration, braking, steering and handling. Tread confidently on new tires from Tire.
Cavino
Rack Whether you know exactly what you want or you're looking for an expert recommendation, Tire Rack makes it easy. You get fast free shipping, free road hazard protection, and convenient installation options, including mobile installation, where they bring the installation to you, your home office, anywhere in.
Danny G
Between, and of course, the best selection, including the full line of Falken tires. And they don't just sell tires. They test them on the road. They test them on the track.
Cavino
Are you falking kidding me? That's amazing.
Danny G
Falken tires. You gotta learn how the tires you want tackle evasive maneuvers, drive and stop in the rain, or just handle your everyday.
Cavino
Go to tirec.com sports to see their Falcon test results, tire ratings and reviews, and be sure to check out the current Special offers. That's Tire Rack.com Sports Tire Rack.com the way tire buying should be.

On November 5, 2018 at 6:33am, a red Volkswagen Golf was found abandoned in a ditch out in Sleep Hole Valley. The driver's seat door was open. No traces of footsteps leaving the vehicle. No belongings were found, except for a cassette tape lodged in the player. On that tape were ten vile, grotesque.

All right. The best two hours of the day, at least for us. We hope you enjoyed it. We're having fun.
Cavino
We hope you Big Mike who runs this place.
Danny G
Yeah, who? Mike?
Cavino
He said, you guys are way too much fun. I go, no, Mike, that's the vibe, bro. Yeah.
Danny G
I mean, we do.
Cavino
Yeah.
Danny G
Sorry, Charlie Murphy. I was having too much fun.
Cavino
I just played the dumbest joke on I was Lamb. I'll post it after today's show.
Danny G
We'll post it.
Cavino
All I'll say is that I think he felt the setup coming, but he didn't know what it was. No idea.
Danny G
I got Mike with a pretty good one. I'm not going to give you the punchline, but I'll tell you the joke. I asked Mike, who runs this place. You know Mike, he looks like Bruce Willis a little bit.
Cavino
Mike looks like an older Stone Cold.
Danny G
Yeah, Mike. I asked him if he was going to Saw Con this year. He was like, saw Con? What's that? And I said, you going to Saw Con? And the punchline is a very juvenile one, but, oh, it felt so good when I got him with it.
Cavino
Oh, okay.
Danny G
Yes, yes, yes. But we also got Sam with something else, man.
Rich Davis
I've been taking from all angles today.
Danny G
Yeah, so I've heard. Sam at Covino and Rich is where you can play along at home. Dan Byers got your updates in about 10 minutes. Danny G. Super producing spots getting ready for midweek. Major. Cavino
You know what? If you go to our Instagram at Rich Davis later on I'll post a picture. I have the. The Mets collection. Yeah.
Danny G
All@travismathieu.com thanks again to them now.
Cavino
LeBron James.
Danny G
LeBron James, you know, the kid that.
Cavino
Said that is 35 years old now.
Danny G
That kid? Yeah, he's. He's 135. That's how long it's been.
Cavino
Well, think about it. He. Cavino. I know Kavino's thinking. Cavino always thinks a lot of clout comes with those things. Like, you probably think, man, that guy's probably got so much booty because he's.
Danny G
LeBron James kid goes to the club and he's like, I'm LeBron James kid. And he gets so much attention.
Cavino
What do you mean? Remember, like 15 years ago, the little kid that was like, lebron James, I bet.
Danny G
I love. I love turtles. Kid is probably the coolest kid in town. He's probably the king of the campus, wherever he is right now.
Rich Davis
How about the Apparently Kid?
Danny G
Apparently kid is playing Apparently, Apparently.
Cavino
Apparently.
Danny G
Apparently he gets more booty than all of you combined because he's done a.
Rich Davis
Video with apparently kid grown up now. I have seen that.
Cavino
It's not as fun.
Rich Davis
No.
Cavino
Now he's just apparently, man.
Danny G
Actually, to really give this story some truth, you remember the Numa Numa kid? In the early 2000s, we had him on our show and I was like, dude, you must have got so much action back in the day when that was the thing, huh? And he was like, no, not. Not at all. I'm like, none. Like, he's like, no.
Cavino
It was the height of the early days of YouTube and Camino really thought.
Danny G
I was like, he must be getting, like, more than the average fella.
Cavino
You must be getting so much booty. You're the guy with millions of views. And the guy's like, in fact, none at all.
Danny G
I'm like, come on, Gary Brolsma.
Rich Davis
I mean, goes to show, you still got to have game.
Danny G
That's the Truth.
Rich Davis
It doesn't matter if you have a video.
Cavino
How'd we get here, Rich?
Danny G
Why'd you bring this up?
Cavino
I don't know. But I do know this LeBron James said something. LeBron James, there you go. He said something during his interview with Pat McAfee that I couldn't agree with more. Samuel L. Johnson. Johnson from Iowa hit the clutch.
Rich Davis
You trying to tell me Giannis wouldn't be able to play an NBA game in the 70s?
Spot
He wouldn't be able to do.
Cavino
Neither would you. Neither would you.
Rich Davis
Giannis antetokounmpo would have 250 points in a game in the 70s.
Cavino
250 now.
Danny G
What does he mean? Giannis is 70 years old.
Cavino
I, I think LeBron James, while of course exaggerating with 250 points, I don't think it's crazy to think that a guy like Giannis, we forget. I don't subscribe to and love these conversation of this guy from this generation versus this guy. LeBron versus MJ.
Danny G
I always hated the old Tyson versus.
Rich Davis
Ali era versus this era.
Danny G
Yeah.
Cavino
You know why I hate it? Not because I think it's an unwinnable debate. Because I hate the reality of. I think the newer generation wins 90% of the time with the exception of an MJ with everyone, which everyone's convinced is the ultimate competitor of all time. We just evolve athletically as a society. I'm not saying socially, I'm not saying. I'm not saying work ethic. I'm just saying we evolve. When we were kids, Lawrence Taylor. What made Lawrence Taylor special? No one was that big and that fast.
Danny G
It's like the babe. We talked about it recently. The dude was what, 6, 2, 2 15. But 62 was it 6 2, 6 2, 215. At that time, he was like a giant fat guy. Fat guy. I weigh that on a bad weekend nowadays.
Rich Davis
But Rich, put the body types aside for a second. Don't you think there were some nastier athletes like Jack Tatum and Ronnie Lott?
Cavino
There were, but I, I genuinely think athleticism evolves over time, which is why Olympic records are always broken, which is why speed continues. The Lawrence Terry example. What I was going to say was back then he was a like a beast among boys. Every team has a linebacker that has the size and strength of a Lawrence Taylor. I'm not saying they're better than Lawrence Taylor.
Danny G
Every baseball player is over 62 and over 215 for the most part, every baseball player.
Cavino
Nolan Ryan was special because he threw heat 100 miles an hour. Teams have middle relievers that hit three, you know, three figures. 100 on the gun, some guy to.
Danny G
Your bullpen girl and softball do over 100 miles per hour.
Cavino
Yeah, the softball girl throws 78 miles an hour. Softball equaling like 110 baseball. Point is, I think LeBron James, right. And it does feel disrespectful to the older generation. But if you go through any industry, the industry has evolved where the current person doing it is more effective at it than the previous person. Look at the ball handling skills of anyone in the NBA now dribbling between their legs casually. Back in the 70s and 80s, learning to dribble between your legs was special. 12 year olds do it now, but.
Rich Davis
They didn't travel as much in the 80s.
Cavino
Yeah, I know the ultimate sides of the argument. Are you going to always be like, well, it's a softer game and this and that, everyone just playing. And as Draymond Green said, I'm just playing under the rules that are out there.
Danny G
He's also an international star and basketball back then wasn't as international as it is now. So you didn't have Greek freaks in the NBA in the 70s at 6 foot 11, 243, you know, you had some big dudes, obviously it's the NBA, but built like that guy.
Cavino
Give me a break.
Danny G
So, Yeah, I mean, LeBron stating the obvious, you know, in my opinion. But it's not a fair assessment. It just isn't.
Cavino
They didn't have. They didn't have the workout routines and the resources a current player has.
Danny G
And it wasn't global.
Cavino
To me, it's just always such a tired argument. But I do think it's always easy to have these debates and they're eye rolling, but I always lean towards whoever's doing it now is probably doing it best just based on evolution or different.
Danny G
You can't say the same about music necessarily.
Cavino
Music is subjective. It's an art. Right? Like artistry is different. Athleticism could be rated, it could be measured. You can't measure art.
Danny G
It's a matter of for the time. That's really what it is for the. You know, they were great for their.
Rich Davis
Time, but not every stat was recorded back in the day, Rich. So it's also a little harder to compare eras.
Cavino
But they also didn't play against every ethnicity and color because there was a time where it was like, man, you're the greatest baseball player, but we don't allow Latinos or black people to play. Oh, you're really that great then. So I don't know. I just. Look at it. All right, look at our industry, Danny. Garbage. And this is, with all due respect to the cousin Bruceys and Wolfman Jacks and Casey Kasems of the world and all the old school legends, but when you really break down that guy Rick.
Danny G
What's Rick?
Cavino
Rick. Oh, Rick Dees. Oh, God, yeah, good one.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Rick Chase in the Bay area in the 90s.
Danny G
No Rick Dees.
Cavino
But think about all those old time people in our industry. What did they do? They connected with their local audience because There was no YouTube, there was no social media, there was no cable TV. They were. The radio was a big deal. So all they had to be was like, hey, hey, it's your cousin Brucie. Here's the Beatles on 101.1.
Danny G
Or have a cool, like, rhyme.
Cavino
Hey.
Rich Davis
But I don't. I don't know if I'd agree with that. All the way, Rich, because they had a lot of funny bits. They did a lot of crank calls.
Cavino
Wolfman.
Danny G
Yeah. I mean, there's a song like.
Rich Davis
There was still a lot of artistry involved in that style of radio back in the day.
Danny G
But here's the thing. Here's what you didn't know, because radio has everything and they had to splice.
Rich Davis
Tape with razor blades.
Danny G
You didn't really. I mean, I guess you could say you tuned in for them, but you tuned in for the music because you didn't really know a lot about the people. You're more intrigued on the mystery of who they were. You don't know anything about the people you're listening to. What do you know about Wolfman Jack other than he had a goatee and a.
Rich Davis
You're right. You're right. They didn't have to be influenced, right?
Danny G
So, I mean, I would say that would be the difference. Now, the people you listen to now you're probably listening to and know a little something about it because you connect with them. Because you connect them. You know them, you see them on social media. You know their lives, right? Like a Bobby Bones. I know what he's up to because I see him on social media all the time. Back then. You're like, I don't even know what the guy looks like. So there was some mystery building, the intrigue. It's just really tough to say, Rich, because, you know, things were just different. It's hard to compare. It really is.
Rich Davis
There was a magic with Casey Kasem and some of the legendary DJs.
Cavino
It was only magic. Danny G. And I'm not Trying to be the guy that ruins the magic tricks on Instagram. Never follow through.
Rich Davis
I feel like you're about to right now.
Cavino
But it's like all Casey Kasem did was say, that was number 20. Here's number 19.
Danny G
All he did. I'm sorry. He was also the voice of Shaggy.
Rich Davis
He connected with millions of listeners because.
Cavino
There were no other options, Danny. There were no other options.
Rich Davis
There were local options, and he was a national treasure.
Cavino
Your request and dedication, JT40 with Casey Kim. That was Lionel Richie all night long. Now it's time for your long distance dedication. Jessica says I miss my friend Bobby. Here's your request. That's nonsense.
Danny G
This is a hot take coming from the guy who hosts the Pop2K campaign. Seriously, Rich takes high offense to the fact that he's not better than Kasey.
Rich Davis
Kasem, who also kisses the Casey Kasem countdown sign.
Danny G
Yeah, he's in the production studio every day. He did it right there.
Cavino
All I'm saying is that we evolve in everything. We evolve. Radio DJs evolved into talk show host, podcasters, more relatable, relevant stuff. We've seen Private Parts with Howard Stern when he had that big revelation. Like, oh, maybe if I'm just myself. We evolve. Sports evolves, all right? Take an industry totally away from sports or music or something like that. If you're a real estate agent, you don't think a real estate agent now with their mental capacities and the tools they know, could outsell any real estate agent from 25 years ago?
Danny G
Hey, man, again, we're comparing apples and oranges. Let me hear you say, keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.
Cavino
Keep your feet on the ground. Keep reaching for the Rich tools.
Rich Davis
The tools are different. That doesn't necessarily make it better. Like a lot of radio stations. And I don't mean to open up the curtain here, but there's a lot of voice tracking that's gone on the past how many years? That's not better in broadcasting. It's not better. It's just the technology made that happen.
Danny G
Maybe it's just sports, Rich, because a lot of times, you. You. You lose the magic along the way. You use the character. You. You lose what really built that industry. You lose the heart of it.
Cavino
I hate to break it to you, all the shows we watched growing up, we have so many fond memories and have great laughs, but they all stink.
Danny G
Well, that's true.
Cavino
Like, you think you could sit down and watch Growing Pains and be like, that was a great show. You think you could watch Balky. Don't be ridiculous. That was trash. You tell me some well written show on Netflix or Hulu isn't better writing than Too Close for Comfort? Give me a freaking break.
Danny G
I think it's.
Cavino
Gimme a Break. Not a great show.
Danny G
I think it's industry by industry. It's all going to be a little different. And when you're talking sports, a lot of it comes to sports evolving into an international game. Like we said, certain games and the conditioning of these players. Yeah, I agree. Giannis would dominate in a whole different level if he was playing some skinny ass dude from the 70s who worked out with a bulwark.
Cavino
Some white dude that dribbled in front of him.
Danny G
Yeah, I agree with you. I agree with.
Cavino
Well, with that said, I don't care what you say. Dan Byers, a better update guy than anyone from the past.
Rich Davis
Well, I don't know about that. You. You mentioned Too Close for comfort, and that's a little too close for comfort.
Cavino
Mr. Rush.
Rich Davis
I'll tell. It did go up another level when Monroe came into the fold, that's for sure. There's also Ted Knight, always wearing the college sweatshirt. He would wear a different college sweatshirt.
Danny G
I got a trivia question for you. What was the name of his comic?
Rich Davis
Cosmic Cow.
Cavino
There it is.
Rich Davis
I've watched an episode probably three weeks ago, ended up. I've gone to the house in San Francisco. A lot of people go to the full house, man.
Danny G
I didn't know you were that into Jim J. Bullock.
Rich Davis
Love Too Close for Comfort. It's gray now. It's gray. I could show you pictures, but in the TV show it was red.
Cavino
Wow.
Danny G
All right.
Rich Davis
Russell Wilson is wearing blue. Big blue. Of the New York Giants.
Danny G
Yeah.
Cavino
Expect to be a starter and come in here and be ready to rock and roll every day to get a lead. I think this team's really looking for somebody to lead them in every way in terms of the process, you know, in the off season, during the season, our habits and our thought process and how we create, you know, a great winning culture and how do we continue to establish that and to really build on things that we do well and the things that we continue to need to do.
Rich Davis
Expects to be the starter now. J.J. mcCarthy expects to be the starter in Minnesota. That's the message from his gm, Quezier Dofamensa, who confirmed today that the team did talk with Aaron Rodgers and wouldn't rule out the possibility of Rodgers maybe joining the team later on this offseason if he remains a free agent. But Doflamensa said Today, as for McCarthy, quote, that's the outcome we want and that's the outcome we're headed towards, end quote. When asked if McCarthy is their QB1, Cavino's Yankees became the first team in baseball to crack the $8 billion valuation. Mark Forbes says that the Yankees value is at $8.2 billion entering the season. That starts tomorrow. Bucks won't have Giannis and Tede Kounmpo tonight against the Nuggets. Celtics say Jason Tatum upgraded to questionable for tonight's game against the Suns. Guys, back to you.
Danny G
What's up with Giannis right now?
Rich Davis
Just a foot issue, but he's so.
Danny G
He'D still score 250 points against these bums in the 70s.
Rich Davis
Maybe more rest.
Cavino
But Dan Byron, one of my favorite fun facts, as you said, the Yankees are valuated at $8 billion. The steal of the millennium, the steel of the last century. When Steinbrenner bought the Yankees for $10 million in the 70s, which was a lot, I know, but still like $10 million in 1973, I believe.
Rich Davis
So you should have asked me how much Steinbrenner bought the Yankees for.
Cavino
Well, $5. All right, thank you, Dan Byer.
Danny G
Thank you, D.B. so think about it. You know, is LeBron speaking sense? Because of course, everything LeBron says is going to be speculated upon and it's getting a little backlash as well. Let's make that clear. Because it sounds like he's punching down on previous generations and in a way he is. But he's also being very honest. And that may be a tough pill to swallow for some people. But it's also true he's a different type of specimen that didn't exist in the 70s. Not in that way. Not in this condition.
Cavino
True. You know what? We'll take your feedback, your phone calls next Wednesday. Having some fun, Kavino and Rich. Right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Okay, we'll lean into Nate's playing experience and tap into our interests away from hockey and try to do what energy lines are supposed to do, provide an emotional boost. How do you feel about all that, Nate?

Danny G
Man. I'll tell you what, no one's as good as Led Zeppelin until I heard Audio Slave play this one, which is very Led Zeppelin esque. The evolution of life, the evolution of sports. LeBron causing some controversy again, saying that Giannis would have scored 250 points a game in the 70s. And you know, we're really basing that on physique though, just on how dominant of a specimen he is. I mean, his game is also next level and he's a champion and all that, but we're really just looking at him thinking, well, he would dominate these dudes. LeBron himself is a more dominant looking figure than Michael Jordan. And Michael Jordan would school LeBron in my opinion.
Cavino
I disagree.
Danny G
But anyway, really as far as like.
Cavino
A basketball game, but I don't think so.
Danny G
I don't think he's more physically. We had never seen more physically intimidating.
Rich Davis
I was going to Say, we had never seen a guy like LeBron that big and strong run downhill.
Cavino
Yeah. Imagine Karl Malone had LeBron's athleticism. That's the closest thing you could think of.
Danny G
There's a lot of skinny dudes in the NBA. Not everyone was built like Karl Malone back in the day.
Cavino
I'm just Saying the Jordan LeBron debate will be one you will never hear on the show, but. But what comes up, though, is that generational conversation. And LeBron, when he was with McAfee, said that a guy like Giannis. He said giannis would score 250 points a game now. And my thought was LeBron's right in that so many parts of our world, not just sports, anything you do for a living, we've evolved. People come up with better, more innovative ideas to the point where it's really hard to compare generations, because I think the answer 99% of the time is it's being done better now.
Danny G
Yeah, but again, the game's changed. Is Joe Rogan better than Howard Stern in his prime? The game is different.
Cavino
No, that's. That's a great example.
Danny G
Are you a better countdown host than Casey Kasem?
Cavino
Different? I know. That's art, though. I thought about that after we were saying the Casey Kasem thing. That's art. So it's hard to criticize, but. No, I know. That's why I said I thought about it more. But any industry you could think of, there have been innovations. That's it. Let's say hi to Andre and Jackson. What's up, Andre? What's going on, guys? What's up, man?
Danny G
Hey, I listened to y'all talk about LeBron.
Cavino
LeBron is right, man.
Danny G
He's absolutely right.
Cavino
It's like three guys that you can.
Danny G
Say that we never seen before. Even though he a punk, you gotta.
Cavino
Throw in Kevin Durant.
Danny G
We had never seen a guy 7 foot like Kevin Durant, but he a punk, though, because he never really do nothing, so. But we haven't seen a guy like him.
Cavino
I know. You know what it made me think?
Danny G
A guy that could score like kd.
Cavino
Yeah.
Danny G
A guy that could unstoppable in any.
Cavino
Era when he's in his own. No one's better at times than kd.
Danny G
You know what?
Cavino
It got me thinking of a meme that was like one of those fun social media debates. Could one like Seal six team take out the Roman Empire if it had today's weapons? You can't compare generations. It's fun to speculate, but, I mean, the Roman Empire, if I said, camino, send in Seal Team 6.
Danny G
How many, how in a week do you think of the Roman Empire, by the way?
Cavino
Know what I've been thinking about a lot lately? The pyramids. The pyramids?
Danny G
Oh, yeah. I think about them at least once a day.
Cavino
All that fake speculation of or is it real of what's underneath the pyramids, that's been on my mind way more than I like to admit. Every day I'm thinking like, what? What is down there? What was here?
Danny G
So go ahead. Roman Empire.
Cavino
If I said, how many LeBrons do.
Danny G
You think it would take to defeat the Roman Empire?
Cavino
One time we had a great debate. Danny G. Let me give Danny G our favorite one to wrap it up. Maybe a decade ago, not Justin Bieber now, like teenage Bieber when he was like, baby, baby, like floppy headed teenage Bieber. How many do you think you could beat up at the same time? Cavino used to swear that he could be up like eight Biebers.
Danny G
Oh, I said eight beavers is my limit.
Cavino
I said, no, you can't beat up three.
Danny G
No, I could be up eight.
Cavino
They could all tackle you. Be overwhelmed by Biebers, okay?
Rich Davis
Just like the Seal Team 6 would be overwhelmed by Roman soldiers.
Danny G
After a while, it's like the game Kung Fu. I would have just kicked them all in the face as they came at me.
Rich Davis
If that bubble gum Bieber started singing very loudly though, I'd turn and run the other direction.
Cavino
It's like Popeye versus Alibaba's 40 Thieves. He just goes, yeah.
