Steve Covino
And forget Rotisserie chicken. Bronco bro, Steve Cavino, Rich Davis. We be rocking out. Let's go.
Rich Davis
Yes.
Steve Covino
Can I just start off by saying, Rich, hope you had a Thunder Thunder Yankees sort of weekend.
Dan Flores
That was a three game series. Relax.
Steve Covino
Hope you had a Cody Bellinger hit streak sort of weekend. And can I just thank Juan Soto for picking your Mets because you're better off without him. Exactly. Get out of here. If we had Juan Soto, we wouldn't be as well rounded. We. Because I'm on the team mentally. We wouldn't have Cody Bellinger. We wouldn't have Max Freed. We wouldn't have Paul Goldschmidt. We wouldn't have Devin Williams. That's what rounds out a team. You could have that pouty face, Juan. So. So any day of the week. And we'll talk about his lack of enthusiasm on today's show.
Dan Flores
No, no, it's. It's too much overreaction. But we will, like you said, get to Soto.
Steve Covino
So.
Dan Flores
So could you do the Brock? Brock? I'm already thinking about Brock Purdy. We'll put him on standby. Can you do the Tom Brady diet?
Steve Covino
What is the Tom Brady diet? You'll find out.
Rich Davis
Can't do it.
Steve Covino
Would you want to do it?
Dan Flores
Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark bringing excitement to the wnba. We'll get to that.
Rich Davis
What's that?
Steve Covino
The is you said the Juan Soto stories blown out of proportion. Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese things blown out of proportion. Is it great for basketball? Was it a big story? Absolutely. Was it just a regular foul on Caitlin Clark's part? Absolutely. Just a regular foul. Where was all the drama? How does this become racially charged? I don't mean from the fans. I just mean from anyone's point of view. I hate when that happens. It's just great competitive basketball.
Dan Flores
Now.
Rich Davis
Spicy.
Dan Flores
I also, if we have time, I want to get to some of the things that our kids seem to get to do nowadays that seemed like a dream when we were kids. My kids experienced something yesterday that when I was a kid, it seemed like no way you could do that. And here are my kids doing it in 20, 25, all that. But we got to start with Brock Purdy. Only because we fill in for Dan Patrick on Friday.
Steve Covino
Sure did get home.
Dan Flores
I don't know about you. I take one of those. Like, you know when you take a nap and you're worse off? Like, you wake up and you're groggier than you were had. You didn't even try to take a nap.
Steve Covino
Especially if you take a longer nap. Yeah, you wake up, where am I? What the fuck, right? You gotta take. That's why they say power naps.
Dan Flores
What's going on here?
Steve Covino
Got like take a 20 minute nap, right? Spotty.
Rich Davis
I once went to sleep and I woke up gronky.
Dan Flores
Let me tell you, I not groggy.
Rich Davis
Not groggy.
Dan Flores
Yeah, Gronky shaking your shoulders like Brock Purdy. I see my phone has like 80 messages and I'm like, oh no, who died? You know you have that thought like, what happened?
Steve Covino
Somebody died.
Dan Flores
And no, quite the opposite. Brock Purdy signs a deal of all deals with the 49ers and I want to thank Dan Buyer who is covering for us. Covered the story perfectly. And Dan was kind enough to call me to get my 49er perspective.
Rich Davis
Yeah, well, we figured it was only rights, like what, what luck that you would be on the Air in the morning? Yes. Not when the news actually broke. And it wasn't like 6. 45 Eastern, 3. 45 Pacific. It was 503 Eastern, 203. So right at the start of the show. So you would have had all two hours to talk. Brock Purdy.
Steve Covino
It was a tail we need for Rich, but we filled in for Dan, so we missed it.
Rich Davis
Maybe it's good we weren't here.
Steve Covino
Yeah, maybe not. Cause you would have heard Rich just screaming about it for 2 hours. But db real solid move to call up Rich or get Rich on the horn to give his two cents. But what was your first thoughts, Rich, when you heard the big announcement?
Dan Flores
You know, initially, I didn't have like a love or hatred of the deal, but the more I'm looking at it and the more, you know, hearing Dan and Monsieur talk about it on Friday, really fair.
Steve Covino
That's my first instinct.
Dan Flores
And sometimes all parties. You nailed it. Sometimes when something's so fair.
Steve Covino
Mm.
Dan Flores
The story sort of like, oh, okay.
Steve Covino
Yeah, but that's nice, right? It's like, hey, yeah, that makes sense.
Dan Flores
I almost feel like they got it right. Where for us, you know, when we do a radio show, a podcast, we're having fun. It would be more entertaining to be like, man, he took the 49ers for all they're worth, or, man, I can't believe the Niners stiffed them. Like, the storyline to me seems like, all right, now he's what, the seventh or eighth most highest paid quarterback? Which if the 49ers think he's the guy to win, that seems about where he should be. Top 10, but not at the top.
Rich Davis
How did he get a no trade clause?
Steve Covino
Maybe that's how he got a more fair deal out of it. Maybe he's like, look, I. I'm not going to try to haggle with you over chump change, but throw that clause in there and we got a deal.
Dan Flores
I mean, there's guys above him on the pay grade scale that I don't think are that much better than him. I think he's sort of where he fits, I guess you'd say.
Rich Davis
I think your point, and it's something that Monty and I talked about on Friday, of the belief of Kyle Shanahan and John lynch that There may be 31 other teams that wouldn't want to pay him $53 million a year, but the 49ers were definitely were willing to do so. And I also just never thought that he was going to get a Sam Darnold 35, $40 million a year contract. And so when people were saying, oh, they spent too much, that wasn't the question. It's, do you want to spend 50 million and have them, or you want to let go and go in a different direction? Because there was no way he was going to take anything less than what he got.
Dan Flores
And if you believe in Brock Purdy, I really do feel like the guys around him as far as pay goes. Let me. Let me read some of the names.
Steve Covino
Do you believe in Brock Purdy?
Dan Flores
Do you believe in Purdy? And I hope you do. Now, listen, he's no Josh Allen. He's no Joe Burrow, and those guys only make it a couple mil more a year. Dak Prescott. I'm not a. You know, me. I don't. I don't think Dax should be the highest paid.
Steve Covino
Yeah, but that's all the flex of the NFL. You know, sometimes I believe that players go to places they wouldn't normally want to go just because they want to flex, that they're the highest paid. Like your boy Juan Soto.
Dan Flores
Oh, geez. We're not talking about Juan Sodo. I know.
Steve Covino
I'm just saying I don't think Juan.
Dan Flores
Soto cared to be the highest paid, by the way.
Steve Covino
Yeah. All right. Seems real happy with the Mets. It's all about the money. You're crazy if you think it was about the Mets.
Dan Flores
Now, guys that are making around the same money as Brock Purdy are guys that I don't think are much better than him or better than him at all. So I feel like if you look at, like, Danny G. If I say.
Steve Covino
It'S also fit, though, two ways make sense. It's a good fit for both Jared.
Dan Flores
Goff, like, those are guys that you would put in the same conversation, same breath as Purdy.
Rich Davis
Really?
Dan Flores
You don't think.
Steve Covino
Talent wise. I don't know.
Dan Flores
I would take him over to any day of the week. And Jared Goff, I think they're. I think. I think they're in the same conversation. I don't look at Jared Goff and say, you know what? The Rams got rid of Jared Goff to win a Super Bowl.
Rich Davis
Yeah. But then he's gone on to have success with the Lions when everybody thought he was a throwaway in the trade.
Dan Flores
Same level of success Brock Purdy's had with the Niners.
Rich Davis
You got to strip away who's around him and what kind of play color he has or what kind of, like, offensive scheme he has. I think they're very comparable because the Lions have a lot of Weapons. The Niners have a lot of weapons. They both have had great play callers, so I think. I think that's about on par.
Dan Flores
And when the 49ers were decimated, Brock Purdy played okay. When Matthew. I'm sorry, When Jared Goff played on teams that didn't have a lot of weapons, it was okay. Like, I think. I think it's comparable. I think they're awfully close to the highest paid guys. But then again, all the, all the quarterbacks, these guys are all $50 million men now.
Rich Davis
I mean, last year on our show, you said you thought he was around a 40, $45 million quarterback.
Dan Flores
And you know what? Going into this negotiation, I can't lie. I think he. I believe that. But if you think he's the guy, you're going to have to pay him this amount.
Rich Davis
Yeah. And I just. That number's not realistic. Yeah, it's. It's not. They're going to pay him $45 million. Again, they're saying we will pay you 40 to 45, but if not, then we'll just go in a different direction. And I don't think that they're ready to go in a different direction. So they have to pay the tax of bumping it up. If you want to look at it that way, I don't think the 49ers look at it as a tax. I think they fully believe in everything that he's done.
Dan Flores
I have a question. We talk about. We talk about this in all other forms of business, like whatever you do for a living, listening around the country right now, if you told your boss, like, this is what I want, or I'll go elsewhere. Listen, if you could go elsewhere, go get paid. Right. I just wonder, is there another team in the NFL that would have paid Brock Purdy 53 million? Because that's what market value would dictate. But I just don't know. I think the Niners were fair to him also based on the fact that he got him to a Super bowl and an NFC Championship game, making like hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
Steve Covino
Proven he could do it there with that system and that he's coachable, much like golf, as Sam insinuated before. So, yeah, very comparable. So I think, again, like you said, Rich, it may be boring, but it's actually nice to hear that it seemed like a fair deal for everyone involved. That just made sense.
Rich Davis
Okay.
Dan Flores
Partly why I don't think there's. There's much meat on this bone, as they say, because again, I feel like it was a story that sort of came and went because I think the narrative is like, well, I guess it's sort of a fair deal. Move it along. No controversy. To answer your question, lynch and Shanahan like him.
Steve Covino
You know, I don't think a lot of teams would have paid him more than that. So he took what he can get and he was happy with it and.
Dan Flores
Both parties win, but not only took what he could get. I'm saying if, if the Niners said, hey, no, no, no, 45 a year, what would Brock Purdy have done? Be like, no, I'm not signing.
Steve Covino
We saw this NFL, but it would prolong the process.
Dan Flores
I know the Niners then would have been like, oh, man, where do we go from here?
Steve Covino
Right?
Dan Flores
But I just wonder where Brock Purdy goes from there.
Rich Davis
You put the franchise tag on him, which is about $46 million next season, and then you have that same discussion the next year when the franchise tag would be worth even more and don't have the contract flexibility that you would have in signing him to this sort of long term deal.
Dan Flores
And if you did what you just mapped out, it's disrespectful to a guy that was your Mr. Irrelevant and has done so much and seems to be a popular guy in the clubhouse locker room and seems to be a guy that John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers believe in.
Steve Covino
So what a story though, you know, as you sign this contract and we move forward and we get ready to watch the rest of his career with San Francisco, at least you have to say, one of the better stories in sports ever. It's like the story of the ugly duckling or something brought to life. It really is like no one wanted him. He's relevant. And then he flourishes into this beautiful swan of a quarterback that has a big fat contract. Now, honestly, it's one of the best. And that just makes it solid right there. That's the story.
Rich Davis
And to your point, Covino, check out this stat. Brock Purdy's rookie contract paid him an average of $934,252 per season. Now he'll make that every 6.4 days.
Dan Flores
You know, got to feel good for the kid.
Rich Davis
Does he? Got to feel good.
Steve Covino
That's the key in all of life and in all of sports. Does he stay hungry? Because what made him great, probably. Well, he has great discipline. He seems like a great guy, but it's the fact that he had this chip on his shoulder to prove that he was relevant. Now that he's got his payday. Does that change a guy like him? I don't think so. But you could speculate.
Dan Flores
Well, we'll see what happens this year. Now, I'm not saying there's a pressure on, but. All right, now you're paid like a top 10 quarterback. Can you take this roster that lost a couple pieces, win 10, 11, 12 games, and get the 49ers back to where they were? If he could do that, then why don't you say, well, you know what? He's worth it. He's the guy.
Steve Covino
Definitely. If they only. The only reason you question him. The stats are there. It's already proven. It's his aw, shucks, little baby boy face and the fact that he's Mr. Irrelevant. He's an unassuming guy. He doesn't have superstar qualities, but he wins.
Dan Flores
Yeah.
Steve Covino
So that's the only reason we even question it, because he doesn't have superstar qualities. But guess who else didn't? The guy with the sweetest diet that we're going to talk about later. Tom Brady. Yeah, he wasn't a superstar, but he had work ethic.
Dan Flores
And it's funny.
Rich Davis
We're comparing Goff to. We're talking about the number one overall pick, which was Jared Goff to Mr. Irrelevant, the very final pick. And I have to imagine that Goff just being taller and having longer arms and bigger hands made him obviously a more, you know, desirable quarterback coming out of College.
Steve Covino
Yeah. So five years, 265, no trade clause. Danny G. Scratches his head on that one. Maybe he just threw that in. Like I said, when I'm buying a car at the Energy, right? Just when I'm about to sign the deal, I'm like, you know what if you throw in some car washes, free car washes, then I'll take it.
Rich Davis
Covino said, I want a shoulder massage once a week from your secretary.
Steve Covino
I want some sweet new floor mats or something. Those rubber ones? Yeah, I want something. You want something extra, right? Right in there at the end of the deal. Maybe he's like, guys, we got. Wait a second.
Dan Flores
Hold up, hold on.
Steve Covino
I'll do this deal. I love it, in fact. But no trade clause. And, like, all right, you know what? Let's just get it done. So props to him, man. It's a really, really great story, Rich. Well, now what happens here? Honestly, it's not that it doesn't matter, but you got a children's book already.
Rich Davis
Boom.
Steve Covino
You know how it ends. And Brock Purdy, Mr. Irrelevant, signed a five year deal for $265 million. The end. Doesn't matter what he does.
Dan Flores
And he won. And he won a Super Bowl. Can we throw that in?
Steve Covino
I mean, but you could write that book now and it's a bestseller.
Dan Flores
We hope that's where the story goes.
Steve Covino
Yeah, it could get even better than that.
Dan Flores
Well, just to put in perspective, I would say don't sleep on it.
Steve Covino
It's one of the best stories ever.
Dan Flores
I would say the American dream is still alive.
Steve Covino
Yes, yes. Honestly, don't, don't forget about the story. As our old boss used to say, think of the story. This is a movie in the making and it already ends with a happy ending right here. And it could get even better.
Dan Flores
Yeah. Put in perspective. It was 2021 when Brock Purdy waited every single round of that draft thinking, oh man, all that hard work in college every step of the way, hey man, I'm not going to get drafted. I may end up in a practice squad. Maybe a practice squad. Maybe I'll get some reps against, you know, the first team. Maybe, maybe some team carries me along and I make practice squad money. He gets picked. Trey Lance stinks. Jimmy Garoppolo gets hurt. And here is Brock Purdy. It is an amazing story, but to put in perspective, that draft in 2021, who is a top 20 pick? Mac Jones. Right.
Steve Covino
In 2021? Yeah, I think so. Around that time.
Dan Flores
Mac Jones is now Brock Purdy's backup. Who else was in that draft? Number three overall. The 49ers gave up a lot to get Trey Lance.
Steve Covino
Oh yeah.
Dan Flores
Who signed a one year, $6 million deal with the Chargers. So just to show you how much changes, there's no way.
Steve Covino
I know.
Rich Davis
Jones was 15th overall to the.
Steve Covino
Trevor Lawrence was number one.
Dan Flores
Wait, so Zach Wilson, Mack Jones. Wait, Zach Wilson was in that draft?
Steve Covino
Yeah, he was number two. Trevor Lawrence number one.
Dan Flores
And Trevor Lawrence isn't even working out to the way they wanted to. So you know, that was a quarterback top heavy draft and Brock Purdy was probably thinking, man, it's, it's not going to work out. Meanwhile, here's a guy a couple of years later, just to show you how things could change so quickly. Do you ever. Does he ever think he would have been the guy making 50 to 60 million dollars?
Rich Davis
So just on over the cap dot com, when you break down their yearly salaries, Purdy is behind Mac Jones and Curtis Rourke on his own team of salaries for what would be for the rookie contract. What'd you say, Danny? 934,000. Yeah. Yeah, so it's so. I mean, you mentioned Jones being the backup. Curtis Rourke's deal is actually worth more than what Purdy had, man.
Dan Flores
So just. Just to show you how, just belief in yourself.
Steve Covino
That's it. By the way, did you ever see that clip you had to have because you're a 49ers fan? But not everybody lives for the 49ers like Rich does where Nick Bosa has a one on one, like private moment with Purdy capture on film. And Bosa's like, he opens up real vulnerable and he's like, I was a first round pick, man. And I'm nervous sometimes, man. I don't know how you do it.
Dan Flores
I don't know how you have that.
Steve Covino
Belief in yourself, man. And Brock Purdy's almost brought to tears because he just has this crazy belief in himself that you just got to give him credit where it's due. Good for him.
Dan Flores
Give credit where it's due.
Rich Davis
Rich, do you ever think about how two Super Bowls ago you could have ended Purdy's career prematurely because he almost tore his ACL when you. When you scared him in the.
Dan Flores
In the staircase when I chased him down a stairwell. By the way, happy for Brock. Let's go Niners.
Steve Covino
And young quarterback has heart attack because he's startled by maniac fans.
Rich Davis
And Fred Warner got his deal. We had that at the top of the hour. So he's the highest paid linebacker again in the National Football League. Niners making it rain right now.
Dan Flores
So you know what? Maybe all is okay in the Bay Area, Santa Clara.
Steve Covino
We'll.
Dan Flores
We'll see. I mean, their, their schedule. I've heard Colin point this out, stars, but if Brock Purdy can't win 11, 12 games with this weakest schedule they got, then. Then you got to start scratching your head. But the 49ers have the weakest schedule I've seen in a decade.
Steve Covino
Rich, does this remind you the other side story here is the reason we're talking about it now is because we weren't on our normal time slot on Friday when it happened. Dan Beyer made the announcement. Meanwhile, it would have been Rich because it happened during this time, but we were filling in for Dan Patrick. Does it make you think of like, man, I should have been there moments like when you're Rich was employed by another radio station and didn't show up on his last day and everyone showed up there with a cake for him on that day.
Dan Flores
To this day, it's one of my saddest regrets.
Steve Covino
So now you got Another one.
Dan Flores
You know what I thought there for.
Steve Covino
The big Purdy announcement.
Dan Flores
It wasn't. No, I think it won. I'll put it in here.
Rich Davis
He threw the last pass to Deebo.
Steve Covino
Though Rich wasn't there.
Dan Flores
I'll give you one that'll ring true to you being that Steve Camino all things Yankees didn't Michael K. He was all butthurt. That the game where Aaron Judge was like trying to break the record. It was like an Apple TV game.
Steve Covino
Yeah. Yeah. That was a big story. And he missed out on opening day, I believe this year. Right. Wasn't was his first opening day. He missed his first opening day that he wasn't a part of. But yeah, the judge thing was that was a big deal though. And I get where you're coming from. It just makes you think of on a side note of things you missed out on that you should have been at but for whatever reason or another, you weren't able to make it. And we filled in for DP on Friday. Catch the podcast if you missed it. But we didn't get a chance to celebrate and we got robbed of Rich's natural reaction. But Dan Byer did.
Dan Flores
Thanks Dan.
Steve Covino
Get you on the on the phone to get your reaction. So that is really cool.
Dan Flores
Wilson coming up, a lot that you're not going to want to miss Cavino and Rich today. Can you do Tom Brady's TB12? The TB12 diet.
Rich Davis
There's a lot.
Steve Covino
It's pretty intense. Much like Tom Brady.
Dan Flores
There's a lot you have to give up. And when we were looking at this, I was questioning myself like how much do you really want to get in shape? So there's a little breakdown of the TB12 diet. It'll be fun to go over.
Steve Covino
Plus plus we're giving away prizes.
Dan Flores
Plus plus prizes.
Steve Covino
Last one standing. Mondays we do it. Your chance to win a Swiggy, our coveted stainless steel water bottle. So stick around. We'll do some trivia. Last one standing. We got more Covino and R next on FOX Sports Radio.
Rich Davis

The American west with Dan Flores is the latest show from the Meat Eater Podcast Network. Hosted by me writer and historian Dan Flores and brought to you by Velvet Buck. This podcast looks at a West available nowhere else. Each episode I'll be diving into some of the lesser known history. I'll then be joined in conversation by guests such as Western historian Dr. Randall Williams and best selling author and meat Eater founder Stephen Rinella. I'll correct my kids now and then where they'll say when cave people were here.
Dan Flores
And I'll say it seems like the.
Rich Davis
Ice Age people that were here didn't.
Steve Covino

On November 5, 2018, at 6:33am, a red Volkswagen Golf was found abandoned in a ditch out in Sleep Hole Valley. The driver's seat door was open. No traces of footsteps leaving the vehicle. No belongings were found except for a cassette tape lodged in the player. On that tape were 10 vile. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. God. Oh my God. Horrific stories that to this day have been kept restricted from the public until now. You feeling this too? A horror anthology podcast. Watching the last week of around the horn. Props to Tony Reali. Never crossed paths but only heard good things about the guy. Got mutual friends. Congrats to their long run. Watched it for 23 years when he was stat boy on PTI.
Dan Flores
Yeah, buddy.
Steve Covino
I'm Cavino, that is rich. The worldwide leaders of nonsense. Hope you had a great weekend. Cody Bellinger sort of weekend.
Dan Flores
That game was close until the 8th. I mean it was 2. 2.
Steve Covino
I mean, I mean not an Antonio Brown sort of weekend. This guy shooting at things. I was gonna say shooting people but he wasn't shooting. He was just shooting guns. He got robbed. People were trying to rob him at a fight and busted out some guns getting into trouble. So yeah, I hope he had a better weekend than that. We're gonna play last one standing to have a great week, a great Monday. Giving away prizes here on the Covino and Rich show, Fox Sports radio. Live from the Fox Sports radio studio. Remember for over 40 years Tire rack has been helping customers find the right tires for how, what and where they drive ship fast and free. Now Rich, before we move on again, your chance to win some prizes. Last one standing if you want to play later. 87799 on Fox. We always welcome you to chime in. Any final thoughts on your boy Rock Purdy.
Dan Flores
Man, I think the only narrative that changes.
Steve Covino
How about him making. What's the expression when you make people like eat their words? Is there an expression for that?
Dan Flores
Eat crow.
Steve Covino
Yeah, eat crow. How about him says that your grandma. Yeah, that's why I looked at Sam. Because he has references of an 80 year old.
Rich Davis
Yeah, so she also says as the crow flies.
Steve Covino
No, but it's true.
Rich Davis
That's a good thing because that matters. That's straight line like a.
Dan Flores
It's not roads meander.
Steve Covino
How about the real. The real part of the story that everybody can relate to? The satisfaction one gets when you make people eat crow. He doesn't have to say anything. But you know what? How many people on tv, Danny G.
Rich Davis
Please don't say that again.
Steve Covino
You were just saying it. How many people were saying he's a nobody quarterback? A nobody quarterback.
Dan Flores
Nothing from the Louisville.
Steve Covino
He has no athleticism, no star power. He's just here for the moments the system. He's gonna be a nobody.
Rich Davis
There was a take that we. That stands out to us that we saw on FS1 where the panel was arguing, would he have to win two Super Bowls to be a legitimate star quarterback in the league?
Steve Covino
Where are those people now? You know, however, making people eat crow, that's. That's such a great feeling, man. I wish that for everybody, however, everybody's doubted at one point.
Dan Flores
With the money now does come the expectation. Right. Like, when Brock Purdy would ever slip up. It's like, yeah, but we got it for, like, nothing. What a steal. It's Brock Purdy now when he's making, like, practically, you know, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence money, he's right there in that same pocket of Goff and Tua, you know, top 10 QB money.
Steve Covino
Nah, because you know what? This adds to the crowd or whatever that means. It does. Because now people are gonna be like, yeah, but is he really worth it? Now he has to prove.
Rich Davis
Yeah, the criticism will be tenfold.
Steve Covino
The criticism still gonna be there. So it just puts more of a chip, more of a fire in his belly, and now more reason to have them eat crow even more, Whatever that means. You know, I feel that inside, Rich. There's. There's a part of me.
Rich Davis
We asked you not to say that.
Steve Covino
Again. I'm sorry. But there's a part of me, and I think a part of everybody.
Dan Flores
Yeah.
Steve Covino
That uses things like that as motivation. You could let it. Let it fire you down, or you could let it fire you up. And I definitely use that as fuel to my fire and everything that I do. Anyone that doubted me, anyone that didn't believe in me, dude, here's the crow. Now. I want to shove it in your face.
Dan Flores
Now, as much as I would love that to be the narrative, because if you don't know Kavino and Rich. Rich Davis, I'm a Niners fan. So I want Brock Purdy to show everyone that I'm worth 53 million. In fact, I love it. Niners got me on a steal of a deal. The wheel of a deal. And watch me now.
Steve Covino
Mm. Yep.
Dan Flores
But then there's the other part of me that thinks of a famous quote from Queen Latifah.
Steve Covino
Uh.
Rich Davis
Oh.
Dan Flores
First time someone's quoted Queen Latifah on Fox Sports Radio, I bet.
Rich Davis
No, Danny did last week.
Steve Covino
Yeah, I don't know.
Dan Flores
I mean, that was Ben Maller, a big Queen Latifah fan.
Rich Davis
Your boy Maller says that Purdy doesn't elevate anybody around him.
Dan Flores
That guy's full of baloney. That guy's full of gabagoola. What does he make, the baba ganoush? That Guy's full of baba ganoush. Look at that guy. Looks like Shrek eating baba ganoush.
Rich Davis
It was baba ganoush. Now it's gabagool in the promo.
Dan Flores
And you don't make baba. You don't make gabagool. Could someone tell him it's an Italian meat? You don't make it, you don't mix it anyway. There is that sense of Queen Latifah. There's a saying where you get way more famous before you become rich. Meaning a lot of celebrities will make their best stuff. Best albums, best movies, best shows. And they're not really paid much. Then they get paid a ton to do a hunk of junk. The album they got paid the most for is their stinker. The movie that they got paid 20 mil to do is the box office pooper.
Steve Covino
So you're famous before you become rich.
Dan Flores
Yeah. So I'm just, I'm just hoping that we didn't see the best of Brock Pretty. I don't hope. I hope we don't look back and say, I remember in the beginning, NFC championship, got hurt, then went to the Super Bowl. Like, I'm hoping Brock Purdy's not a no playoff wild card quarterback. And we're like, oh, remember the good old days when we thought, I don't.
Steve Covino
Think you'll get that from Brock Purdy.
Dan Flores
I certainly hope not.
Steve Covino
I just don't. I don't think he's that type of guy.
Dan Flores
And there's guys, I love their confidence, like big Brandon who works here, one of the editors. He's a big Niners guy. He's. He's a firm believer that because he's.
Steve Covino
Also a guy that they have to build around, he's not the superstar. They'll have a superstar line. I'll continue giving him weapons that he needs.
Dan Flores
I think they give him superstar money, though.
Steve Covino
Yeah. No, no, but there's still money for other players. It's fair money.
Dan Flores
What I'm saying is guys like our buddy Brandon believe that when you have front offices like Kyle Shanahan and John lynch, there are certain offices in all sports where you could guarantee that they'll always be competitive because of the way they run the organization. So you could argue that the Niners drafted well this year. You will see, right? I mean, who knows? But with their weak ass schedule, Brock Purdy is soft launching. You know, you know, when a pitcher comes back from the IL and you really hope their first start back is against a bunk team like Kavino, you wouldn't want a pitcher you wouldn't want Garrett Cole's first start to be against, like, the Dodgers. Right, because you're like, why Throwing it to the wolves right away.
Steve Covino
Right.
Dan Flores
I think you always want your star pitcher to come back and play like the Marlins in their first game.
Steve Covino
You want to build off the confidence.
Rich Davis
Play the Angels.
Dan Flores
Yeah, exactly. Well, who swept the Dodgers this weekend? But I will say, I think with Brock Purdy, he gets his contract.
Rich Davis
Sorry, dude.
Dan Flores
And then he has the weakest schedule. So Brock Purdy's essentially playing the White Sox in his first game back is what I'm saying. Well, look at the Niner schedule. They don't play any team you would consider a Super bowl contender. The Niners may be one and done in the playoffs, but I bet you the Niners over will hit. If it's 11 and a half in Vegas, Niners could go 14 and 3 and be that team this year. That's way overrated. They play bunk teams. Take a look when you get a chance. There's trash on that schedule, man.
Rich Davis
It's the NFL, though. Like, you never know.
Dan Flores
Like, gets better.
Rich Davis
We talked about this on Doug Show.
Dan Flores
Like, the schedules this time in May.
Rich Davis
Are not what they are in September and October. Injuries play a factor. Team surprise teams disappointment.
Dan Flores
No, I agree, because sometimes the team could be bunk one year and then great the next year. But I'll. For example, let me just rattle off some of the 49ers opponents and tell me this isn't a great entrance. Or Brock purdy. And it's $53 million 49ers kick off the season.
Rich Davis
Wait, wait, wait, wait. We have to do this properly here.
Steve Covino
The rich loves to look at the schedule, gang.
Dan Flores
Dan, we're watching. And there's not a guy that likes to look at the schedule more than me. Huh?
Steve Covino
It's true.
Dan Flores
I'm sorry, guys. I'll just give you the first five 49ers at the Seahawks. No offense, Dan. I don't think your Seahawks are. I think I feel confident there.
Rich Davis
Oh, you do? Yeah, I'm considering. Seattle went to San Francisco last year and beat the 49ers.
Steve Covino
They were Terr this past year. Get burned. Yeah, no.
Rich Davis
Feel confident on all you want. Go right ahead.
Dan Flores
So want to know. Okay, then they play at the Saints 2. And. Oh, then they play the Cardinals at home 3. No, then they play the Jags in Santa Clara 4. 0.
Rich Davis
You said that about the Cardinals last season, too.
Dan Flores
Cardinals are just.
Rich Davis
You know, there'll be a loss in there.
Steve Covino
Yeah, this is going to be a 3 and 2.
Dan Flores
So then they, then, then they play the Rams, Bucks, Falcons. Just two wins in there. The Niners, they have. They don't play. Get that.
Rich Davis
That's a win. That's.
Dan Flores
They don't play. They don't play. Buffalo, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Green Bay, Minnesota Eagles, they play anyone that I would say, Camino, give me the best teams.
Rich Davis
Detroit, like they have the easiest schedule in the NFL in the history of the 41% winning percentage.
Steve Covino
Something like that right now on paper it does help. Yeah.
Dan Flores
But you have to deliver.
Steve Covino
So no doubt it'll help build some confidence. Hey, speaking of quarterbacks, we're going to talk Tom Brady and his crazy diet. You got to hear what's involved with this diet. Would you do it? Could you do it? We'll explain.
Dan Flores
We've heard about the T12 die, but they've now gone into what he does.
Steve Covino
Oh yeah. It's very detailed. It's wild.
Dan Flores
All right, Dan Buyer, update us on the world of sports. What's up man?
Rich Davis
The 49ers making moves again today. Making Fred Warner the highest paid on ball linebacker in the NFL giving him a three year extension where $16 million.
Dan Flores
15 and 2 this year.
Rich Davis
This is. See Rich is so overconfident with his team and Cavino, you and spot. No Rich much longer than I have. But it's when they lose and he gets so butt hurt about it that there's just not an equal give and take. There's no back and forth. So we'll see. Week one talking trash about the Seahawks. All right. 49ers though.
Steve Covino
Yeah, the way he set that up, by the way, I didn't realize they were starting with the Seahawks. Like he totally dumped on the Seahawks.
Rich Davis
Yeah, absolutely.
Steve Covino
If you would have said if Saints was the first game, I would have felt more confident.
Rich Davis
Noted Very, very well noted. Three year $63 million extension for Warner, $56 million guaranteed. It's 21 million DOL dollars a year for Warner who now passes Roquan Smith for that highest paid on ball linebacker title. Eagles gave head coach Nick Sirianni a multi year contract extension. And The Browns send fifth round pick Shador Sanders to his rookie deal four year contract with $4.6 million. Other rookie signings include the Chargers signing their first round pick, running back Omarion Hampton and the packers signing their first rounder wide receiver Matthew Golden. Pat40 of SI.com reports the Notre Dame USC football rivalry could be coming to an end after the 20, but the schools are still negotiating possibly a long term extension. USC has proposed a short term extension to at least play in 2026. Braves activated pitcher Spencer Strider from the 15 day IL. He'll pitch tomorrow against the Nats. Dodgers activated outfielder Tsco Hernandez from the IL and optioned outfielder James Altman to Triple A Oklahoma City. And finally guys, for those that may not be aware, but the Indy 500 is coming to Fox. You'll see it on Sunday, but you will not see two time defending champion Joseph Newgarden near the front pushed to back of the grid along with Team Penske teammate Will Power after rules violations in qualifying. Again, the Indy 500 on Fox coming up on Sunday. Guys, back to you.
Dan Flores
No thank you DB and that Spencer Strider coming back is a big deal for a team that started out so bad. I will say this, I like to dump on teams I don't like. But I've told you all long, don't count the Braves out just because they started so bad. They're over. 500 just like that. That was like the most meager trash start for a good team. Remember that what they lose, they were like 1 in 7, 1 and 8 to start. 24 and 23 as we speak. So congrats to all the Atlanta fans. That's going to get real tight down the stretch with the Mets, Phillies and Braves. So your team in the division of trash, how tight?
Steve Covino
Like your summer shorts. Like those new ones you bought?
Dan Flores
Tighter than a team in a division with not another team over.500 like your Yankees.
Steve Covino
Okay.
Dan Flores
Red Sox in second place two games under.500. Great division.
Steve Covino
So hey, stick around because we will talk some baseball. Some Juan Soto. I'm sorry, Juan. So, and if you, if you want to hear, if you're trying to lose some weight and you think you could pull off the Tom Brady diet, man, you got to stick around because it's insane.
Dan Flores
And one last thing. There's something a rooting interest in the NBA Conference championships. There is a reason why we should be paying even closer attention. I'll let you know that too. So you got a lot to listen for more CNR Next.
Rich Davis
The American west with Dan Flores is the latest show from the Meat Eater Podcast Network. Hosted by me, writer and historian Dan Flores and brought to you by Velvet Buck, this podcast looks at a West available nowhere else. Each episode I'll be diving into some of the lesser known histories of the West. I'll correct my kids now and then where they'll say, when cave people were here.

Dan Flores
That looked exactly like my own.

I wanted to throw up. I wanted to scream. It happened in Levittown, New York. But reporting the series took us through the darkest corners of the Internet and to the front lines of a global battle against deepfake pornography. This should be a legal book. What is this? Oh, good for you.
Steve Covino
That's Iowa Sam. It's Covino and Rich. Fox Sports Radio giving away prizes. This show with last one standing, the toughest, most intense game of all. What a way to start the week. That's opposite of Brock Purdy. You give us a hard schedule. Why on a Monday when I'm dragging ass, do we have the toughest game of the week? Brock Purdy's got that easy schedule.
Rich Davis
I saw you yawn earlier.
Dan Flores
I think it's the best game of the week. Yeah, I love last. So we'll play that giveaway prize in.
Steve Covino
A little ground for that. And then tomorrow we'll do some trivia. Either. Shaq Diesel. Shaq Diesel. Tomorrow somebody stopped by doing some trivia.
Rich Davis
Jack is on the board.
Steve Covino
All right, nice. So, always giving away prizes again. Thank you guys for hanging out with us. We're Covino and Rich. Live from the Fox Sports radio studio. And it's time for our tire rack play of the day. Former Dodger, now kick ass Yankee Cody Bellinger came up big for the Bronx Bombers and I loved it.
Dan Flores
Bellinger flies it into right field. Back it goes at the wall. Soto at defense leaps.
Rich Davis
It's gone. Wow, what a night. What a night.
Dan Flores
A grand slam for Cody Bellinger.
Rich Davis
The Yankees have blown it open.
Dan Flores
It's an 8:2 Yankee lead. Oh, good for you and your Yankees.
Steve Covino
And yes, it was a great weekend. My Yankees closed the gap a little with our bet Rich, you and I have a bet Rich and I have a bet about who has the best record by the end of the year. And that was courtesy of the Yankees radio network. And that's our tire act play of the day and I loved every second of it. Thank you.
Dan Flores
Tire rack for over 40 years, Tire Rack helping customers find the right tires for how, what and where they drive. Shift fast and free back by free road has protection and convenient installation options.
Steve Covino
Can I just say that when Max Freed struck out Soto, I felt a little tingle in my Fox Sports radio dingle.
Dan Flores
Dude, it was a really nice. It was a knee buckling breaking ball. I mean boy, dude, he is one of the elite pitchers in the league. Slow down, keep your pants on.
Steve Covino
We wouldn't have had him if we had Soto. So why do you take it? Because I don't think they would have made the moves they made had they kept Soto.
Dan Flores
Had they kept Soto, they wouldn't have been worried about their pitching staff.
Steve Covino
In retrospect, the fact that the Yankees got Freed and Goldschmidt and Williams and and Bellinger with the granny.
Dan Flores
You and Yankee fans are so sad. You know, you're like Yankees fans like Cavino.
Steve Covino
You put all your eggs in that one Soto basket. And honestly I thought they should have because he helped get them to a World Series. Now I'm sort of glad they didn't. He wanted soda more well rounded now.
Dan Flores
That you couldn't get them. Now you're doing this whole BS thing that you justifications. Yankee fans are doing the show this weekend. No, you might as well go on Facebook and talk about how you've been happier than ever.
Steve Covino
I'm going based on what my eyes saw over the weekend.
Dan Flores
They've been seeing Conveno and Yankee fans are ex girlfriends that post about how they've never been happier.
Steve Covino
They're the greatest ever been in mingling.
Dan Flores
Sitting there, oh my God, happier than I've ever been living my best life. Yankee fans get over yourselves. It's almost gross. It's almost sad. Like, it's almost sad how the. The pinstripe pride in this proud team just can't handle. You dated him for a year.
Rich Davis
He's with me now.
Steve Covino
It wasn't just some random Ansler year. It was a year that they went to the World Series in. So that's part of the journey. You left with unfinished business. I don't know why that doesn't matter to you. Oh, probably because your team hasn't won a world series since 86. But that matters. That matters. So you left with unfinished business for what? Your neighbors next door? For 5 million extra. Beat it then.
Dan Flores
That is a slap in the face.
Steve Covino
It was more than just slap in the face.
Dan Flores
Yankees not just about money. And he's explained that Yankee fans don't like to hear anything unless that he left for the money. He's a bag chasing now. All of a sudden. He's lazy and fat. He's a slug.
Steve Covino
According to who? According to reporters.
Dan Flores
According to you and like Yankee nerds.
Steve Covino
Bob Clappish and Michael K And everybody else. We'll explain.
Dan Flores
Bob, clap this.
Steve Covino
We'll explain here. All right. Tell him to his face. Bob will probably smack you in the face.
Dan Flores
It's like an old reporter.
Steve Covino
How about a clap to the face? So we'll explain because now there's a story of Juan Soto's lack of enthusiasm. And people are noticing.
Dan Flores
I'm not even.
Steve Covino
And I noticed it too.
Dan Flores
I'm not even quite sure what that means.
Steve Covino
I know exactly what it means. It means body language. What do you mean you don't know? You know what?
Dan Flores
Enthusiasm is the only thing that Juan Soto has yet to break out.
Steve Covino
Oh, you mean the Soto shuffle is.
Dan Flores
The infamous Soto shuffle.
Steve Covino
Because there's nothing to shuffle about.
Dan Flores
That's why the Mets are in first place. They have a better record than the Yankees.
Steve Covino
And it shows that he's still a me guy because your team's still doing well and he's still pounding like a big baby. He's not playing with the same gusto and attitude. Forget about the numbers attitude that he had last year and years before.
Dan Flores
His exit velocity is second only to Aaron Judge. He's hitting the ball hard at people. He's not letting the balls just not fall. I. Juan Soto will get hot. That is a guarantee. I don't understand why anyone, Yankees fans, Mets fans, anyone would be worried about Juan Soto. The Mets have their. Their best start in, like, you know, the last 25 years. Meanwhile, because Juan Soto is a little, you know, statistically under delivering.
Steve Covino
Well, we'll explain what they mean by lack of enthusiasm. Plus, Tom Brady's diet. You want to lose weight, you're feeling like a slob. Bob, you're gonna have to take some notes right here on the Casino and Rich show. We do it next.
Rich Davis
