I've already seen the clips up if you want to go to the fox Sports Radio YouTube page. Our social media at Covino and Rich. Lots of cool clips from earlier today. We caught up with PUK and the kua. My dude, Fred Warner, Vince Wilfork. So lot of a lot of fun.
Steve Covino
So far today at Radio Roll and yesterday Paige Spiranak and Curt Schilling. If you missed anything, just search Covino and Rich wherever you stream your podcast, follow, rate and review and again follow our New Orleans adventures at covinoenrich and at Fox Sports Radio. Now. Later today again, you never know who's going to stop by. I heard that Malcolm Butler of the Patriots, super bowl champion, two time super bowl champion.
Rich Davis
Yeah buddy.
Steve Covino
Stopping by to say what's up. And of course it's Wednesday. So going to turn your hump day into a hump night if we have time. Some midweek major the biggest stories in the world of sports and pop culture. But a few rando observations out here as the buzz gets thicker at Radio Row.
Rich Davis
As we see athletes, celebrities and people just walk on by. It's cool to bump into familiar faces. I just saw presidential candidate and I say that because it's a true story. Stephen A. Smith walked by with an entourage like he was already running for president. That's a story today that Stephen A.
Steve Covino
And God bless this country.
Danny G
Yeah, the only entourage I've seen just as big, if not a little bigger today was Shannon Sharpe when he walked.
Steve Covino
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I saw him walking by too. So yeah, everybody who's anybody's here and if you can't make it into the room where it happens. We bring the fun to you. That's why we're here.
Rich Davis
No doubt.
Steve Covino
Some good parties last night. We're going to go to Collins party tonight. We'll report back manana, let you know how that is. But some other random observations. I got to start off with this one. Out here in New Orleans, there is a lot of security, Right? We appreciate that and props to people keeping us safe. But Rich is fixated. He said it about 5, 15, 16 times already. What do you think of the mountie hats?
Rich Davis
Observation number one.
Steve Covino
My question is really leading with this. I just gotta ask. Do you. Do you lose respect or does it command respect?
Rich Davis
I don't know. Because the New Orleans Police Department doing their thing. Thank you. Not mocking, just saying. They got that Bullwinkle mount Y hat like it's almost cartoonish. And I don't know if it garners more respect or if it's funny.
Steve Covino
I think you're talking Dudley do right? I think that's what you're getting at. Something like that.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
They got on the full on uniform and it's kind of intimidating. But they all walk around with their hats, man. It's a presence. I'm leaning towards commands respect. Rich is like, I lose respect. It looks goofy.
Rich Davis
No, no.
Steve Covino
So again, just throwing it out there. Even though we're still giving props because we do appreciate it because they're the first people we're going to if there's a problem. Let's be fair.
Rich Davis
Yo. Let it be known, my friend. I am a huge supporter of the police.
Steve Covino
Yes.
Danny G
What are you going to do? Say that you don't support the police?
Rich Davis
A lot of people do, Danny. A lot of people do.
Steve Covino
A lot of people.
Rich Davis
I. I respect the police more than anyone. They're here to help us. I'm just saying I'd like you to.
Danny G
Know I'm against racism.
Rich Davis
No, the uniform, you know, in every city, it varies. I feel like nypd, lapd. Different uniforms, different cars. You know, the police are different everywhere. In New Orleans, it is a like a navy blue Dudley do right?
Steve Covino
Mount.
Rich Davis
Yeah, Mount the outfit.
Steve Covino
I'm like riding around on horses and everything. Honestly, it's wild. So that's observation number one. Observation number two is what? What a weenie Rich is. He just had a roast beef sanguich again, in between the cowherd show. Yeah. He had a Po boy because we're here in Nolens. So in between Collins show and this show that just started, he had a roast beef Po boy and he keeps Complaining that my belly hurts, my tummy.
Rich Davis
Aches, my belly hurts you.
Danny G
Down with the thickness.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
Clarissa Thompson was supposed to be on the show today. There's some little virus or bug going around New Orleans right now. And you heard at the top of the hour, ILO say that Jalen Carter of the Eagles missed his media availability today with illness.
Steve Covino
It's concerning because we have alerts on our phone and there's been alerts, you know, shooting out from everybody that there's something going on around here where people are getting sick. The other day that's not happening to you, Rich, because, you know.
Danny G
No, I, I just breathing on us.
Rich Davis
I just had a. A big ass PO boy, too much sauce. I mean, think about it. The other day, Colin mid segment was like, yeah, stars, stars, Luca. You know what, guys, I gotta go. And so there is a little something going around.
Steve Covino
And by the way, that's not why we filled in for him today, making his way here to New Orleans. So that's why we did double duty today. But speaking of the food and his belly ache, I gotta tell you what he did last night.
Rich Davis
Oh, no. I have an observation about the restaurant we had lunch at.
Steve Covino
Go ahead.
Rich Davis
Again, this not trying to be controversial. We went to a really nice little bar, pub, got a PO boy, got a couple apps just to kill the time in between shows. I'm talking to our buddy from the Odd couple, Kelvin. And we both looked down. And Covino had given me a signal look down before. I didn't know what he was talking about. The tiles in this bar had a swastika pattern.
Steve Covino
Not just one, it was just full on throughout the bar.
Danny G
The whole tile floor.
Steve Covino
It was the tile.
Rich Davis
Everyone's like, what is going on?
Danny G
Yeah. Like I said, I'm against racism.
Steve Covino
Yeah, exactly.
Rich Davis
Thank you. Thank you, Daddy. Immediately, one of the workers there go look at the sign and there's a big sign that says this place was built in 1902, prior to World War II, prior to Nazis. And it was a sign of peace. And I'm thinking, still change your tiles.
Danny G
Well, they say they took that symbol and inverted it.
Steve Covino
Exactly, exactly. Yeah. So I mean historic in a sense. It's an old floor. They explained it, but it's hard to not notice.
Rich Davis
Don't you think it starts to change the timing?
Steve Covino
Yeah, sort of changed over time. Yeah.
Danny G
Don't you think the employees must be really sick of explaining it?
Steve Covino
I know every single. That's why there's a big giant plaque. So again, some random observations and before we get into other stuff. LeBron and John Madden and midweek major and some football observations.
Rich Davis
You got your notes, Rich.
Danny G
Elon Musk owns that restaurant.
Rich Davis
Stop it.
Steve Covino
Last night we all went out. Fox Sports Radio, you know, some of the big wigs. It's always fun to hobnob and booze and schmooze with important people and, you know, some other shows were there. Rich thought it was the right time to go splitsies, as he called it. Havesies havesies with our boss. So Rich and our boss. I mean, solid move, lame over boss move because it is our boss.
Danny G
But you're downplaying it, though. It was like lady and the Tramp style.
Steve Covino
Well, yeah, because then they interlocked arms and fed each other. Not even joking.
Rich Davis
No joking. I think that was joking.
Danny G
That part was joking.
Steve Covino
That part was joking. But they actually did it is my point. Like, they shared food and went halves. So the question is, before we dive into the other stuff, let's have some fun. Covino and Rich, let's get involved. 87799 on Fox. Is it okay to share meals with your bro or your buddy? Or is that something you just do is, you know, with your wife or girlfriend?
Danny G
Like, split plates?
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Danny G
Is what they did.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Well, here's the thing. I think anyone that says Rich, it.
Steve Covino
Caused a lot of chit chat and.
Rich Davis
A lot of laughter.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
But I think anyone that has a problem with this is out of their damn mind. I'll tell you what, then why did everybody react There. There have been times where.
Danny G
Why did head honcho Don Martin call you soft?
Steve Covino
Yeah. Yeah. Why did everybody lose respect?
Rich Davis
Thanks, guys. No, listen, you could say, well, it's your wife. It's different. But recently I'm at a diner with my wife and I saw on the menu they had a Reuben. And they had, I believe it was a pulled pork grilled cheese.
Steve Covino
I think it was a Reuben. Sierra, just so you know, I had.
Rich Davis
A little mustache and I was like. I was like, babe, you want to want to do halfsies? Want to split? And my wife gets annoyed that I want to do this all the time. But to me, I'm the guy that wants to get a little taste of everything. So we're at the restaurant last night, I happened to be sitting next to the boss. We have a big table, really fun time, great crew. Of course, you think it's coincidence Rich.
Steve Covino
Was sitting next to the boss or he was kissing ass.
Rich Davis
Oh, Jesus.
Steve Covino
Kissing ass. That's what he was doing. Rich was kissing ass.
Rich Davis
That's what your dad would say. And our boss, Scott, I saw him eyeing up the scallops or the filet.
Steve Covino
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to make a choice, but a real man makes a choice and sticks with it. Sometimes it doesn't work, and sometimes it does.
Rich Davis
Or I saw that we were both deciding between two things, like, hey, dude, you going with the scallops or you're going with the. The steak. And I'll. I'll give Scott credit. He. He led off with. By the way, how do you like your steak? He led you there?
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
And I go, medium rare.
Steve Covino
Oh, how about you? He.
Rich Davis
He goes, so do I. And then it was the.
Steve Covino
I guess that makes us split pals at that point.
Rich Davis
It's like, all right, you want to get the steak and the scallops and we'll just split them. I see no problem. The fact that you boneheads even address this, this is brilliance. And then Covino had this huge ass pork chop, and I'm like, let me get a little taste. I got to try three entrees.
Steve Covino
A little simple is here and there. Okay. I get it right. You know, again, you're on the company dime. And as Rob Parker says, when the company pays, you eat fillets.
Danny G
Oh, he's a whole nother story.
Steve Covino
But sharing with another man, splitting the play. Your thoughts at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Yo.
Rich Davis
I was saying back at the studio, we've hung with I. With Sam. We've. We've been to my house. I was saying we've been out for meals. Are you cool splitting entrees with one of your buds? I. I guess that was a very hesitant idea, I think. Yeah.
Steve Covino
Because sometimes you, as a guy, you see what you like, and I don't even want to share it, let alone split it. Like, get your own meal, by the.
Rich Davis
Way, if someone wants a little taste. Little taste, then they can have a little taste. But I prefer to keep my own.
Bobby Bones
Entree because, you know, I'm kind of a fatty, so I want to eat.
Rich Davis
All the food on my plate.
Steve Covino
Same. I'm with Sam.
Danny G
I sent you and Ryan. Little picture there, Sam. You see that?
Steve Covino
Oh, now, I think I saw this.
Rich Davis
On your socials, Danny.
Steve Covino
I can't say I've never done it. I. You know, but it's not. Oh, wow, that is something. Rich seems to be like an endorser of this tactic.
Rich Davis
Well, I'll tell you what. Not everyone's down for it. And again, yeah.
Danny G
Arnie Spaniard just texted into the show what a suck up Rich is. I don't Even share any of my food with my wife.
Steve Covino
That's what I'm saying. Sharing with the boss. Kissing ass. That's what he's doing. What are you. By the way?
Rich Davis
You know. Thank you, Artie. Love that guy, by the way.
Steve Covino
That's great.
Rich Davis
I will say this. I recently did this with our video guy, Spot, and he's like, never again. We were at the Graduate Hotel in Auburn.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
And I'll be honest. I. I'll take accountability. I'm always the guy that wants to do this. We went to some great place for. For dinner at the Graduate, and there was a southern fried chicken sandwich and a smash burger. And I was like, oh, damn it. I'm just indecisive. Dude, you're amazed I'm married. I picked one woman. To me, I'm like, blonde, white, black. I'll take it. Variety is the spice of life. So when you put.
Steve Covino
Oh, that's a good one. Did you come up with that?
Rich Davis
I did, actually. I made that up. When you put a fried chicken sandwich on one side of me and a smash burger on the other side. I said, spot, let's do it.
Malcolm Butler
Come on.
Rich Davis
Splitskies. Split a roof. Sharesies. Spots. Like, okay, fine. He did not like the chicken. And he's like, yeah, you're an ass. I hate you now. Like, he was so mad because you.
Steve Covino
Steered him in the wrong direction. Well, hey, you know, we'll let you decide. It's an old school. It's super bowl week, so let's do an old school NFL. Fox Sports Radio Nation. You make the call. Yeah, listen, let us know.
Rich Davis
There's a ton of NFL and NBA and stuff to get to, but why not start with a fun, light question?
Steve Covino
I want people to understand, though, it's not all about football in the game. There's a lot of fun to be had at these events in the week leading up to Super Bowl. It's a lot of people.
Danny G
See all the families outside of the convention center going into the NFL experience.
Rich Davis
Loves to point out how come our dads never took us to places like this.
Steve Covino
You mean the places our dads never took us? Yeah, I mean, it's fun for the family. It's fun for the co workers. We're hanging out with our colleagues. We're going out for dinners. You know, we're here at Radio Row. It's kind of a reunion. You're seeing old colleagues that you worked with. So there's a lot more story to tell than, you know. Who's more motivated, the Eagles or the Chiefs?
Danny G
The Eagles.
Rich Davis
Trust me. Two hours. We got a lot of NFL. We got some NFL stars stopping by. Stars. But I will say this. Dare I sound corny and say this is great team building.
Steve Covino
It is not.
Rich Davis
Not the split of the dinner. I'm saying the fact that, you know, I was chopping it up with Doug Gottlieb's here. We just saw Kelvin at the restaurant we were at. You know, tonight we're gonna be going to party. So it really is an opportunity to. To really spend some time with the people on your team, essentially.
Steve Covino
Exactly. And it's not just us. It's everybody. I mean, the superstars are out, the Pro Bowlers are here, and when I say Pro Bowlers, I mean Pete Weber and. Yeah, exactly. Covino.
Danny G
Do you hear a lot of exaggerating? Because I overheard Rich tell Gottlieb, I watch all your video clips.
Steve Covino
Yeah, he's. He's a. He's a suck.
Rich Davis
Yeah, I said one of them.
Danny G
I watch all of them now.
Steve Covino
Start thinking about this, too, because aside from football, it's unbelievable that we're even talking NBA right now, but there's so many moves to be made in the next 24 hours or so. Right. So I got to ask you about LeBron James. Seems to be handling the news pretty good. Had a nice game yesterday. Bronny hit a three pointer.
Rich Davis
As he did point out, though, when he went to the bench, AD wasn't there. I know, and he's used to AD.
Steve Covino
Being in that spot, but he saw Luka smile and he felt right at home again. LeBron more motivated to stick around or call it quits knowing that his replacement is there. Think about that. Maybe not necessarily just LeBron like you. Let's say, you know, your replacement's there. Do you want to hang around and go for that ride with the new guy and teach him the ropes and show him around? Or do you.
Rich Davis
It's not like LeBron's not going to be part of this.
Steve Covino
Yeah, but you don't know how much longer he intended on playing. There's a theory of Luka may have prolonged his career and gave him second life because it takes a lot of weight off of him. Or do you think LeBron says, yeah, we're going to go for it. He's a true professional. We know that. You know, I want to win with this guy, but it's his team moving forward, and I'm done after that. But you know What?
Rich Davis
Hold your LeBron and Luka thoughts, because there's other Luka thoughts, and they have to do with when you're called, like, out of shape or chubby. Is that a motivator in itself?
Steve Covino
Absolutely. The simple fact, even he said so.
Rich Davis
The simple fact that the narrative that Luka is 25 years old and a little thick with a bunch of Cs.
Steve Covino
Mm h I I, I C C C. So we'll start thinking about that.
Rich Davis
Get to that some more. NFL, of course, a little preview. Eagles, Chiefs. But we are joined next by super bowl champion Malcolm Butler. So hang tight. We got more Covino and Rich next right here on FOX Sports Radio.
Danny G
FOX Sports Radio has the best sports.

It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm going to be honest, it was a little pink.
Rich Davis
There was something sentimental when you, when you send it. It was like, do I send the heart now?
Bobby Bones
I don't like the color edition.
Rich Davis
It's extremely pink.

Welcome back to the show Covino and Rich Radio. From super bowl media row, I'm Steve Covino, that is Rich Davis, and we have a guest. Let's welcome two Time super bowl champion with the New England Patriots. Malcolm Butler, everybody.
Malcolm Butler
Yeah, I'm doing good, man. How y'all doing?
Rich Davis
Having a hell of a day, man. I mean, I. I think of you and, you know, you got to think immediately one of the biggest plays in super bowl history. So what the hell, let's start there.
Malcolm Butler
Oh, my man. Big time player make big time plays, baby. Hey, hey. It only counts when it counts, you.
Steve Covino
Know, I'll ask you this. How did your life change after that catch? Because you were the hero after that win. How did life change immediately after?
Malcolm Butler
I'll just say Mr. Kraus said, what's your name?
Rich Davis
Right.
Steve Covino
All of a sudden you're real important, right?
Rich Davis
By the way, has Russell Wilson ever, you know, approached you like, yo, I sort of hate you, my man? Or no.
Malcolm Butler
Nah. Well, I met him. I don't know. We was at the correspondence dinner, I think, in 2015. I was talking to his grandmother. I don't know where she from, but she is so sweet. And I think we were sitting there talking for like six or seven minutes. He said, come on, grandma, we gotta go.
Steve Covino
Isn't it odd that one of your greatest moments is one of his greatest nightmares, Right? Like, he probably still thinks about that every night the same way you do. Just opposite.
Malcolm Butler
Yeah, I'm glad I got the better end of. Yeah.
Steve Covino
Hell yeah.
Rich Davis
By the way, part of two of the more exciting Super Bowls in the last ever, maybe, you know, that ending versus the Seahawks when you win and then against the Falcons, right?
Malcolm Butler
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Rich Davis
28 to 3. The anniversary was just the other day.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, we came back like, I keep coming back for that church of chicken.
Steve Covino
We're going to talk about that because I can smell it. Malcolm Butler here with Cavino and Rich. Now, that play didn't happen by accident. You were prepared for it. So what was your preparation? You know, how did you prepare for plays like that and quarterbacks back in the day?
Malcolm Butler
Well, back in the day, like, you just see the athlete and we always just wanted picks and stuff like that. But once I got to college, I started to learn a technique and especially when I got to the New England Patriots playing for under Bill Belichick, I started learning the technique. The game started slowing down more. I didn't play as much, but I always was urgency, reserved player. We had Brandon Browning, Darrell Revis, Logan Ryan. Like, I deserve to sit, but I didn't think I deserved to sit. But, like, you got to earn your stripes, right? And I think I earned my stripes enough to be able to get in.
Steve Covino
The most important game in the most important moments, too. Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
Yes, sir.
Rich Davis
Yeah. Malcolm, let me ask you. When you see Coach Belichick now going to college, do you think these young kids will respond to his style?
Malcolm Butler
Yes. Yes. Like, of course they going.
Rich Davis
I mean, he appeals to the. He has a younger girlfriend.
Steve Covino
Maybe.
Rich Davis
Maybe that demo. Maybe that demo likes Coach Belichick.
Steve Covino
Damn.
Malcolm Butler
She might be on campus. She might be social studies or something. Let me stop playing. But. But, yeah, like, I know the game. Like, Nick Saban got out there at the game because, like, the nil deals and stuff like that, like, he can't compete no more. But, like, it's an even playing field now. But I think players will most definitely go play for Bill Belichick. And, like, Bill Belichick never been a social media guy or a guy about money. You here to do your job and help the team win. And who don't want to play for one of the best coaches in the NFL?
Steve Covino
Speaking of.
Malcolm Butler
And then he find Malcolm Butler. Like, you gonna go find him. Another Malcolm Butler, another Tom Brady, another Julian Eldon.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
You played for the Pats 2014-2017, then again in 2022. What was it like going back at the end of your career? Because KD said today he has no interest in going back to the Golden State Warriors. Was it just as fun the second time around? Do you take pride in starting and ending your career with the Pats? How was it?
Malcolm Butler
Man, I just felt like it was different. I kind of felt like Vilachek wasn't as hard as it used to be, really.
Steve Covino
So it's different.
Malcolm Butler
And then I got older also.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
And then the players got younger, so maybe I. I don't know what I was seeing, but, like, I don't. I. It's just different, man. Like, we had our runs, but I don't think it wasn't. It's just like, it's not the same now. It wasn't the same then.
Steve Covino
Right.
Rich Davis
I saw Vince Wilfork earlier. We had him on the show, and he was saying how when you have Tom Brady on your team, you never feel like you're out of it. Was that a sense you had even, you know, even though you're on the other side of the ball? Did you have a respect for Brady? And when you see documentaries, like, man in the arena, is it cool to look back at all those moments you guys had?
Malcolm Butler
Yeah. Yeah, 100%. When I first seen, like, I did, I never thought in my life I'd play for the New England Patriots.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
I said, damn. Damn it. My bad. I said, dang, it's cold. Like. Like, just like. Like just playing a game. And then I'm like, dang, he's cold. And then I end up in a locker room, and I see Tom Brady with this big Trapper keeper. I'm talking about. I don't know if he was a. A teacher or what, but he is a teacher. Teacher of the game.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
But I'll tell you about Super Bowl 52. He said, we gonna come back and kick you.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
I said, man, whatever. Throwing that thing came back. And that made me a true believer. So Vince Wilfort is very right.
Steve Covino
We're here with Malcolm Butler again, Super bowl champion. What's the last three years been like for you, man? Because you retired in 2022, so what's that been like for you?
Malcolm Butler
My coach, High school football.
Steve Covino
Nice.
Malcolm Butler
Yep. Went to the State Championship in 2024, and Jason Whitten stopped us this year from going.
Steve Covino
No way.
Malcolm Butler
Beat the brakes off of us.
Rich Davis
Is that fun for you to get joy passing down your knowledge to these kids?
Malcolm Butler
Oh, I love it, man. I love it. God blessed us to bless other people.
Rich Davis
I love that. Hey, you know, Malcolm, when. When you're here and you see all these people, is it sort of like a reunion? You bump into old guys? You would see across the. Across the.
Malcolm Butler
Yeah, I just seen one guy. He said, yeah, I seen a bunch of guys. I just seen one guy. He said, man, I would have been in on him.
Rich Davis
Play.
Malcolm Butler
If they ain't called goal line. Three corners. It's called three corners. Somebody got to get out of the game.
Steve Covino
Malcolm Butler here with Covino and Rich. Again, you're only 34 years old, right. So you were an older guy on the field, but you're a young man in life. You're getting your competitive flow as a coach. But is there a party that still wants to compete in other sports?
Malcolm Butler
Man, I thought about playing ball again, but, nah, I can't do it. Like, once you stop, you just can't crank the engine back up no more.
Steve Covino
No. But you're still in shape.
Malcolm Butler
Oh, yeah.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Malcolm Butler
You gotta look good.
Steve Covino
So you're keeping in shape. Yeah. You're styling today here.
Rich Davis
You're looking safe, man.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, 50 away. Keep the weight away.
Steve Covino
That's it, man. And you're. Aside from the super bowl win and the rings and everything, other memories that are near and dear to you. Any other accolades and memories that stand out to you in the NFL?
Malcolm Butler
Man, just. I appreciate everything I tell you.
Steve Covino
That is it the relationships, the friendships.
Malcolm Butler
The relationship, the friendships, the respect, the ups and downs. Like, you got to appreciate everything. Everything while you here and, like, just. Just be thankful for everything. I'm thankful for being on Fox.
Steve Covino
Hell, yeah, man.
Rich Davis
How are these guys feeling a couple days before the Super Bowl? They got butterflies. You think? Some guys are just naturally calm. What were you like? Were you in your own head?
Steve Covino
Starts to bring up a lot of memories for him.
Malcolm Butler
So, like, I was like, I ain't gonna play.
Rich Davis
I mean, the one you were thinking.
Malcolm Butler
I was like, I ain't gonna play. But, like, in the meeting room, my coach said, malcolm, be ready to play. You gonna put your little West Alabama school on the map. And I got in and did my thing. But I wasn't scared. Yeah, I wasn't scared.
Steve Covino
You were prepared.
Malcolm Butler
I was just ready.
Steve Covino
Nice.
Rich Davis
Ready.
Steve Covino
I love it.
Rich Davis
And you're here, by the way, Church's Texas chicken. I could.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Thanks the whole time.
Danny G
Oh, yeah.
Rich Davis
What are you guys doing this week? Super bowl week.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, man, look, we having a block party Thursday. No, Saturday. On South Clayman Street. 1600. Look, kids eat for free.
Rich Davis
Nice.
Malcolm Butler
You're gonna see you. You're gonna get some autographs, jerseys, pictures from me.
Steve Covino
Nice.
Malcolm Butler
And then somebody got a chance to win chicken for the whole year.
Steve Covino
Get out of here.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, hey.
Steve Covino
I love it.
Malcolm Butler
Hey, so pull up like that. Fresh chicken.
Steve Covino
Nice. Church's Texas chicken. It's a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for being on the show. Round of applause.

Steve Covino
Wearing patent leather shoes, no socks.
Rich Davis
I was saying there's certain guys and.
Steve Covino
He gets a lot of mankle, bro, man ankle. But he owns it.
Rich Davis
Yeah, you could tell there's certain guys in. In the world of sports that are styling others that just whatever. He's one of those guys that he put a lot of effort into his wardrobe.
Steve Covino
Yeah, there's guys like him. There's guys like Jason Kelce who just show up in their, you know, sweatpants and their flip flops.
Rich Davis
No doubt.
Steve Covino

Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Four days. Four days until Super Bowl Sunday. Now, coming up, I want to talk more about Luca. Oh, yeah, because I mean, we are here at the super bowl, but the AD Luca thing, just so many layers, so much intrigue. And the more you're getting little. Little nuggets and tidbits from these guys. The way Luca's body language is, he seems a little aggravated. But I think that aggravation, I mean, it's going to result in.
Steve Covino
Yeah, but if you lost $100 million.
Rich Davis
Yeah, you'd be a little aggravated, too. Yeah, but Danny, you're a Laker.
Steve Covino
And then you're criticized for being overweight. You.
Rich Davis
Danny, you were saying earlier when we filled in on the herd, when someone insinuates you're out of shape, like at the restaurant last night.
Danny G
Oh, well, you got to bring up old stuff. Yeah. So we're at the bar, slash, they have great appetizers there at our hotel, and we were waiting to go on a little outing with some of our co workers. So we're standing there waiting. Covino standing next to me. One of the bar backs walks by, and he's bringing an appetizer to one of the guests at the hotel there. And he cuts through the middle of Covino and he looks right at me and he says, excuse me, big guy.
Steve Covino
Big guy. Big guy.
Rich Davis
And no offense, Danny. No offense, Danny. You're not like six, four. So when he says big guy, you got to take that a certain way, so.
Steve Covino
Or that's just the. The way he addresses people, like, all right, boss. But that big guy, if. If, you know, if You're a little sensitive. That could be on your mind all day long. There's a lot of funny social media bits of when people say that, for the rest of the day, they're just dwelling. He just basically called me fat. Big guy, Big guy.
Danny G
And I, I told Jonas Knox the other night, I said, imagine if Shapiro, our boss, traded you to ESPN and then you caught wind publicly that he was saying you were out of shape, you were fat, you weren't, you know, you weren't in shape. That's why he traded you. And Jonah said, I'd be on the treadmill for an hour immediately.
Rich Davis
No doubt.
Steve Covino
And you know what?
Rich Davis
Cavino and I have always talked about how when you go through a breakup, and let's be honest, when you're traded straight up and you're a superstar and.
Steve Covino
Your conditioning was in question, you are.
Rich Davis
Going through a breakup. He straight up broke up, the Mavericks dumped him. Now listen, it was a really big trade, two superstars, but you could look at it as he got dumped. And what do you do during a breakup, Camino?
Steve Covino
You hit the shape, you hit the.
Rich Davis
Gym, you better yourself, get motivated. I think with LeBron on his side and LeBron being a super conditioned guy that spends millions on his body, on his routine, on his fitness and diet, I want to be shocked if he goes to LeBron and Luka plays better than he's ever played. I would not be shocked because honestly, when you're an elite athlete, you're 25 years old and people are questioning your conditioning, you still got the metabolism at 25 to be like, you know, f you, F you.
Steve Covino
Here's the dangerous side. It's a double doozy of motivation because I mean, he's already self motivated to be as great as he is, but now he has this little bit of revenge too. Like, all right, I'll show them. So add that on top of his already motivated self and man, he's going to be dangerous.
Danny G
And if you think he's fat, he got to the NBA Finals. He led his Mavericks to the finals nine months ago being quote, unquote, fat.
Rich Davis
So something to think about. Luka, Lakers. Will it work out? We talked about it earlier on Colin Cho to judge and grade this trade is preposterous. So we're just going to have to wait and find out. And the NBA is waiting for us after Super Bowl Sunday. The NBA is waiting, getting ready to heat up.
Steve Covino
All right, so we got more of that and we're going to talk little John Madden and culture shifting. All right?
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
This week is the anniversary of when John Madden actually became a coach in 1969. And that shifted the culture, you know, forget about. Of the team of the NFL practically.
Rich Davis
Yep.
Steve Covino
But other coaches and the impacts they had in regards to culture shift and more. Midweek major we got it here on Cavino and Rich live from Media row Super Bowl 59. New Orleans.

It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm gonna be honest, it was a little pink.
Rich Davis
There was something sentimental when you, like when you send it, it was like, do I send the heart?

Now I don't like the color edition.

Rich Davis
Is the phrase I would be remiss? Is that a phrase? Yes. I think so. Right? I would be remiss trying to sound all professional.
Steve Covino
I think he's remiss.
Danny G
Somebody owes you $5, so remiss.
Rich Davis
Thank you, Iowa. Sam, I would be remiss if I. If I didn't mention that no more. And Dan, if the super bowl comes to your home state, your town, and you got kids or family or just go with your buddies when they do these fan fest and fan experiences, honestly, it's such a thrill to see all these little kids getting excited, seeing their favorite players, seeing all the, you know, kick a field goal, throw, throw a football, you know, through a tire. They got setups. And the NFL does it right. They really do. I took, I took a walk through the fan fest. It's so good, honestly, to see all those kids, as you said, and my parents didn't take me to these type of things.
Steve Covino
I know, man.
Rich Davis
Way cooler than Chuck E. Cheese.
Steve Covino
If you can take your family, it's always a great week, always a great time. And there's superstars everywhere. Now our buddy Wes from Vegas hit us up.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
He goes to more and more you guys. West from Vegas. Mustache. I know that guy. He says more and more you guys talk about this trade of Luka and AD he goes, the more you talk about it, I don't think it's as big as you're making it out to be. Big names. Yes. But reality is the trade is one injury prone star for another injury prone star who's out of shape. Just the thought. And I would never wish that. No, no. Because I'm not thinking that. But there is a possibility that although there's big names involved, it's like the dud of an outcome. We don't know that yet. Right.
Danny G
I want to refute that now. You owe me $5 for that one you2 good one. Okay. Because Anthony Davis was having a very MVP, like, healthy season up until this abdominal strain that he just got. But prior to that, he was healthy on the court and looking like the best version of himself.
Steve Covino
That would suck though, if that were to happen.
Danny G
No, I agree with that, but I.
Steve Covino
Just don't see it.
Danny G
And then with Luca being fired up, hopefully, hopefully we're going to see the best out of both of these players.
Rich Davis
I mean, just you know how sometimes the scheduling gods, you know, give us a, give us something to root for. Imagine, come NBA playoff time, the Mavs and the Lakers face each other like in the second round or something. Somewhere along the way they face each other. Tell me that wouldn't be the ultimate, like, all right, let's see how this worked out. So I think the world should be rooting for that.
Steve Covino
I'm pumped for it, but there's always that possibility and that's why I brought that up. Okay, so I'm gonna set this up. We said it before, now I want you to start thinking about it. I believe it was yesterday, but we had so much to get to, so many guests stopping by, we never got to it. But this week is the anniversary. Marks the anniversary of when John Madden became a coach in 1969. And you could look back and say, well, that sort of changed the culture for everything.
Rich Davis
Wait, wait, hold on, I have to say this. Hey kids, John Madden's just not a name on a video game. You just think about it. To our kids and other, you know, anyone younger than 30 or so, I mean, they know that Madden was a coach, but he is, he's the, he's the face of a video game, but, but you know, a game changing coach in the NFL when he took over for the Raiders super bowl champion, I believe, you know, we think of John Manning, I thought he was the tough.
Steve Covino
Acting to acting guy.
Rich Davis
You know, think about it this way. If you're a kid of the 80s or 90s, you think of John Manning as an announcer.
Steve Covino
When my feet bursted into flames, I thought he was the guy I had to call up.
Rich Davis
John, boom.
Steve Covino
Tough acting titan.
Rich Davis
But think about it. If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, you have video games and tough acting, tid acting. And you know, him and Pat Summerall, one of the best duos of all time.
Steve Covino
I thought he was the guy breaking into walls, you know, with Miller Lite. That's what I thought. I thought he was like the Miller Lite version of the Kool Aid Man.
Rich Davis
If you think back to our parents generation, we think of him as like the awesome old guy. He was the youngest coach in the NFL at some point. So picture like young John Madden just making such a culture shift in the league and what he brought, the energy.
Steve Covino
Not just the Raiders, just in the league.
Rich Davis
I think he was at one point he was tiny enough where people were hoisting him up on the shoulders. That famous clip.
Danny G
Yeah, I think of the famous clips of the curl in his hair and the pocket protector with his button up shirt.
Rich Davis
No doubt. So when you think of John Madden.
Steve Covino
I think of his checkered pants and.
Rich Davis
The culture he brought to the Oakland, Louisiana, Oakland, la, whatever they were at the time, they were Oakland, Oakland Raiders.
Danny G
Yeah, he never coached the LA Raiders.
Rich Davis
Look at it this way, there's very few coaches in all of sports that changed the dynamics and the culture more. I'll throw out a couple and if you want to chime in 87799 on Fox Live from Radio Row.
Steve Covino
Yeah, we like to let everybody involved. This is your chance to chime in at 87799 on Fox. I'm going to start off with a simple one.
Rich Davis
Go.
Steve Covino
That's got to be Joe Torre for the Yankees. You know, you could say that Buck Showalter, he built that team, built that team with stick Michael, Gene Michael. But Joe Torrey, once he got in there, changed the culture of that locker room and they became a winning championship franchise. He definitely changed it for that decade.
Rich Davis
Okay, well, I, I, I could think of like 10 better answers than Joe Tori.
Steve Covino
That's why I said I get the obvious out. You're the greatest, bro.
Rich Davis
I am the greatest.
Steve Covino
Let's give Rich a hip, hip hooray.
Rich Davis

The show kicks off with Steve Covino and Rich Davis broadcasting live from Media Row in New Orleans, gearing up for Super Bowl 59. They share light-hearted anecdotes about previous guests and interactions, setting an energetic tone for the episode.
Steve Covino:
“Live from Media Row New Orleans Super Bowl 59, part two of Cavino and Rich because we hosted Colin Cowherd's show today…”
Covino and Davis engage in casual banter, discussing their surroundings and notable personalities they've encountered. They touch upon the unique presence of the New Orleans Police Department and share humorous takes on sharing meals with friends.
Rich Davis:

The highlight of the episode is the interview with Malcolm Butler, a revered two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots. The conversation delves into Butler’s pivotal moments, especially his game-winning catch in Super Bowl 52, and his subsequent career decisions.
Rich Davis:
“You got to think immediately one of the biggest plays in Super Bowl history. So what the hell, let's start there.”
Malcolm Butler:
“Mr. Kraus said, what's your name?”
The hosts explore how Butler’s life transformed post his iconic Super Bowl moment, his respect for teammates like Tom Brady, and his experiences returning to the Patriots towards the end of his career.
Malcolm Butler:
“I said, dang, he's cold. And then I end up in a locker room, and I see Tom Brady with this big Trapper keeper. He is a teacher of the game.”
Steve Covino:
“You were prepared for that play. How did you prepare?”
Malcolm Butler:
“I started learning the technique, especially under Bill Belichick. It’s about earning your stripes and being ready when it counts.”
Butler discusses his retirement and transition into coaching high school football. He reflects on the joy of mentoring young athletes and the fulfillment it brings.
Rich Davis:

Malcolm Butler:

[21:20] Malcolm Butler:

[23:34] Malcolm Butler:
“Players will most definitely go play for Bill Belichick. He never been a social media guy or a guy about money. You here to do your job and help the team win.”
[26:28] Malcolm Butler:
