Rich
All right. Hey, lots of fun today. Kavino, Rich, Fox Sports Radio. Let's go. We're gonna talk about some movies today in honor of Val Kilmer. Lost him yesterday at the age of 65. So we're gonna talk music and movies and have a lot of fun with that big NBA game tonight, a telling game, some would say, between the Lakers and Warriors. Where are they at? So we'll get to some NBA, some movies, some fun, and of course, Shohei Ohtani. Is this guy, is this guy a star or what? Ohtani.
Covino
Go. Ohtani again. Welcome to the show. Showtime. Go time. Shohei Ohtani.
Rich
Time.
Covino
Hope you had a Shohei sort of night, a walk off sort of night. Dude should have moonwalked from third to home because talk about owning the moment. He should have did the worm from third to home just because he can, because he's such a superstar. It's sickening how great this guy is. But yeah, like Rich said, lots to get to. And like we do every Thursday, we always throw it back and reminisce and get you involved. So write the number down now. 877-99-FOX. 87799 on FOX.
Rich
You're writing at that as well, huh?
Covino
I am as a speak. And get ready to chime in. Start thinking about some of your favorite movies with the best music again in tribute to Val Kilmer.
Rich
And it's also national musical movie score day, so.
Covino
Yeah. But I want to give you a head start. Start thinking about that. We do that when 50 hits on the clock. So 47 minutes from now and at the end of the show two hours from now, over. Promised episode 86 debuts. That's our bonus pod. Because we can't fit all this fun into two hours.
Rich
No way, Jose. Hey, I got a question before we get Shohei and last night and just the state of baseball after a week.
Covino
By the way, baseball so hot they don't even say Jose anymore. It's no way Shohei.
Rich
No way, Shohei. So Jose's out before we get Kinseco is very frustrated about that. Before we get into all that, gotta let you know we're doing it live from the Tire Rack.com studio.
Covino
Tire Rack Tirek.com will help you get there. An unmatched selection, fast. Free shipping, free road hazard protection. Over 10,000 recommended installers. Tire rack.com a tire buying should be and tractor supply.

Covino

Rich
Thank you, Tractor Supply.
Covino
Thank you, tractor Supply. And speaking of throwback Thursday, Rich and tractor Supply, do you remember the cat goes meow.
Rich
Of course I did.
Jeremy Scott
Meow.
Rich
Who didn't have that?
Covino
The sheep goes. Did everybody have that Pulling that pull and play towards the little arrow goes. Anyway, thank you guys for hanging out. We will reminisce. It is Thursday, which is the new Friday. So the weekend begins now.
Rich
Yo, let me ask you.
Covino
Yes, buddy boy.
Rich
Before we get into no way. Shohei. Before we get into Shohei Ohtani. What a ridiculous night. Everything from people waiting 12 hours for a bobblehead that they would have got anyway. Before we talk about the walk off.
Covino
Are we sure about that, though?
Rich
Was that ever confirmed that everyone got it? You know, I'm sure people would put up a fuss if they didn't. I was saying so we'll get to all that. But you wrote down the number 87799 on Fox.
Covino
Sure did. That's our number.
Rich
And as you wrote it down, you got Me thinking on Throwback Thursday, what are some of the skills that you used to have that are just obsolete now? Because two things come to mind for me. As you wrote that down, I feel like I was the wizard of memorizing everyone's phone number. Girls I was dating, everyone's friend, their parents, house. You were a mental Rolodex of phone numbers. And then you got your first smartphone and now you might not even know your girlfriend or wife's phone number.
Covino
That's why we encourage you. Get this, Fox Sports Radio Nation. We encourage everybody to use their brain because we're so quick to go to Google all the time or chatgpt for the answers, knowing that we have that information at our fingertips. We don't rely on our brain, and we're getting dumber by the day.
Rich
Not only are we getting dumber, we're missing out on fun conversations. I hate when our video guy spot says, oh, Google. Because I'm like, no, I asked you.
Covino
Your recall.
Rich
Yeah, I asked you because I'm, I don't know, having a conversation. I could look up, you know, how many Cy Youngs Roger Clemens had. But guess what? Sometimes it's fun to be like, yo, don't look it up. What do you think? Like, it's called using your damn brain. And I think we need to do a little more of that. But when it comes to skills that we may have had back in the day that maybe technology took over, like remembering a phone number. I recently was at a kid's birthday party with my little rugrats. And I don't think any of the other adults, I was embarrassed for them.
Covino
Oh, no.
Rich
They didn't know how to keep score in bowling.
Covino
That was a skill we all had growing up. We had no choice. Especially at the weak ass bowling alley I grew up at. I, I grew up in Union, New Jersey. This is a true story.
Rich
You put the little pencil in the ashtray and you had your little paper. You were right down the long squash.
Covino
Huge part of my life, you know, my parents on hold. They were in leagues. I grew up running around. I was in a league. I would go every weekend over here. Yeah, man, I'd go, steve rake. I'd go bowling every weekend.
Rich
I go, is it labor awesome that I. I've had multiple bowling balls as a kid. Remember, you get your name engraved in it, of course. And you know, the trick was a white crayon or yellow, whatever. White, whatever. But if you did a white crayon and then waxed it off, oh, it looked mint.
Covino
Meaning if your name's engraved, it would get dirty and wear out over time. So you just refilled it in with the wax of the crayon. But anyway, yeah, I love bowling. Shout out to Pete Weber and Dick. I'm a big bowling fan. And yeah, keeping score was just part of the skill set. And you would have that overhead projector and that weak ass paper they would give you because it wasn't always on regular paper. It was that projector paper, projector.
Rich
Transparent.
Covino
Yeah, transparent paper.
Rich
You're right.
Covino
And I went to a bowling alley growing up called highway bowl. And it was so weak, Sam, that there was a strip club connected to it. An all nudie strip club, I would say week.
Rich
That sounds like.
Covino
Yeah, it was called Hot Toilet too.
Rich
Hold on. Bowling alley strip club. Be sure where your fingers are going.
Covino
Yeah, seriously, I'd be there all night.
Rich
I was gonna say that sounds like. That's way better. When then, what do they combine, like a KFC and a Taco Bell or something?
Covino
Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
Rich
KFC and Pizza Hut, That's a way better combo.
Covino
But I'm not even kidding you. Like, that was the scene. But man, keeping score is what we did because we didn't have the, obviously the monitors and all the computers that do it for you now.
Rich
And you could say the same. You, you always make the funny reference. Hey, if you're keeping score at home, announcers would say that because there would be people that would keep baseball score.
Covino
I mean, some people still do that at the game with the program.
Rich
Have you seen anyone buy a program? I've been to plenty of games over the last decade. The idea of that guy that speaks like he's from the 1920s. Program, get your program here. He puts on that accent. Get your be here programs. I, I mean, I would enjoy that. As a kid, you'd write in the lineup, you'd get to the ballpark, you'd be like, all right, who's. Oh, all right. Lenny Dykstra's batting. He's leading off. You would write it in. You would keep score. You go to your kids little league game now, they put the mom in charge with an app on their iPad, and people don't keep score anymore.
Danny G
There's teams that don't even make programs any longer. That's sad to download it from the Internet. Because I asked a guy at Dodger Stadium, I'm like, how'd you even get that? He downloaded it.
Covino
So two forgotten sports skills, keeping bowling score.
Rich
Get your program here.
Covino
20 cents for a program, a baseball card, you know, a baseball score, the scorecard. And how about this? I think you and I do this more than the average fellow. And I struggle, Rich, and I write a lot. But as I get older, I notice my handwriting is just for the birds. Dude. I can't even read my own handwriting half the time. So people that don't write as often as we do, you have to imagine they're forgetting how to write. And they're not even teaching kids cursive, really anymore. And if you don't use it, you lose it. The Yankees actually did a bit on this recently, and they asked people to spell the Yankees in cursive. And these dudes didn't know how to do it. They didn't know how to do it. It's a lost art.
Rich
That's insane.
Covino
Yeah, they didn't know. They're like. They didn't know how to do it at all. But if time goes on, you're not writing anything really ever here and there. You're on your computer all the time or texting somebody. Your handwriting just gets worse and worse.
Rich
But, you know, there are some things that I usually tend to lean towards the newer technology. But again, our video guy spot, every so often, he's like, want me to get you guys some, like, touch screens that you could type on for your notes? And I'm like, no, I like. I like to write my notes for the show.
Covino
I do.
Rich
It takes longer, though.
Covino
Priorities change. And things change along the way. Like, you know, some people don't even know how to bend the brim of their hat because for years, people weren't bending the brim of their hat. And that lost art became a thing. Now it's coming back. I'm like, give me that. I'll bend it for you. You think I don't know how to round out a brim of a hat? Or Rich didn't even know how to break in a glove. He's asking everyone around the office, how do you break in a glove? I'm like, you never broke a glove in the hell out of here.
Rich
That is not true.
Covino
That's not true.
Rich
That's not true what I said back.
Covino
You know what? Where's Warner? Wolf, back to the video tape. You were asking everyone that was willing to listen the best way to break into a baseball man.
Rich
Well, no, no, see, that's completely different than what you just said. I said, what's the best way? Because the last time I broke in a glove, I was rub. I was using rubber bands, oil, putting it under my mattress or like the recliner in the living room. Nowadays that you bring up to Dick's Sporting Good, they bring it in the back and put in some steaming machine. And, you know, there's shark tank items where kids are wrapping it with like, you know, a rubber glove of sorts. So I know how to do it. I'm just saying there's new ways to do everything. And I just bought my daughter a new glove and I was thinking, like, do I go old school? Rub a little oil in that bad boy, Put it under the couch? What do you do?
Covino
It depends what kind of glove you're getting. If you're getting a really high end glove, it's gonna need some breaking in. But they make these soft leather gloves for these kids nowadays where they don't have to do that. We didn't have that option when we were kids.
Rich
I prefer that as a coach because all these little kids have little weak hands, right? You're coaching like six and seven year olds. You need to give them those crappy, like, almost plasticky gloves.
Covino
Because we're kind of coming off a little, like, high brow here. Like, man, like, we don't do these things anymore. How could you be so dumb? You and I don't know how to really do a tie because we don't have to. We didn't grow up in a time where we had to do it all the time. Like, do you really know how to do it? It's like a lost art. I have to get someone else. I'd be like, dan Byer, can you do my tie for me?
Rich
If we went to a formal, if we went to a formal event, my. The knot of my tie would be so crappy that I probably would. I would be able to do it. But you know what I would likely do? I'd be like, yo, Dan, can you do my tie for me? And then he'd slip it out over his head and hand it to me like, I'm a schoolboy.
Covino
I actually saw Stephen A fixing Mad Dog's tie on TV the other day.
Iowa Sam
I would actually saddle up behind you, you know? Yes, yes. Do it that way. Yes.
Rich
Thanks, Dan.
Iowa Sam
Bear hug around you.
Covino
Ah, that's so funny.
Danny G
Gets me out of shave.
Covino
Dad, you know, I don't want to be like, oh, these generations today don't know how to take a bowling score. Well, yeah, Rich and I barely know how. We don't know how to do our own oil because we don't have to.
Rich
Yeah, there's. There's skills like that. Like Anytime we have that conversation, my goodness, people will hate on me because I'm like, oh, I don't know how to change my own oil. Why would I have to? Most cars now, they don't recommend you do it yourself. And you don't have to change your oil every couple thousand miles like back in the day. Some cars you could go, you know, years without changing your oil.
Covino
Yeah, we didn't grow up in that culture of tinkering with your car.
Rich
I guess this is where ADD radio gets you because we're going to get to Shohei in a second. I was just. I saw you writing down the phone number and it made me think that just one of those skills like back in the day.
Covino
Well, it's not that I don't know.
Rich
I can name anyone.
Covino
You know, I like to visually have it here written down when I, when I shout it out.
Rich
You can name any one of your childhood friends and like, there's something about you that you still could probably shout out those kids phone numbers. Yet you don't know anyone's number in this room except mine. Maybe because we've known each other pre cell phones, pre smartphones.
Covino
Do you remember your original childhood phone number?
Rich
Of course.
Covino
Yeah.
Rich
Sometimes I feel like one day I'm.
Covino
Calling it up, see who answers.
Rich
I have a movie concept, Dan, where I call my childhood phone number and it's me. And it's like some sci fi, like time travel movie.
Covino
Rod Serling probably did that already.
Rich
Hello? Yes, it's Rich. Yeah, hold on. Gary Carter's batting. What?
Covino
It's rich in 1986.
Rich
What's going on? And that's. It's like, I don't know if it's a comedy or a suspense thriller. Sure, I'm still working on it.
Iowa Sam
I'm intrigued. For the next hour and 47 minutes.
Covino
I got minute one too late. It's a Black Mirror episode. Would there be a tear in the.
Rich
Universe as Doc Brown alludes to?
Covino
I don't know.
Rich
Right. A time shift continuum in the paradox of the universe. Hold on.
Iowa Sam
Would it be called Landline? Would that be the movie Landline?
Danny G
Yes.
Rich
Hey, wait, little Richie, don't hang up. Yeah. What's mom making? Oh, shake and bake pork chops. It's true. Must be you.
Covino
Yeah, dude, I mean.
Iowa Sam
And the Oscar goes to Landline.
Covino
Rich Davis. The truth is, the more tie my.
Rich
Tie the night of the Oscars, the.
Covino
More reliant we are on other people, on technology, the less, the more inept you become as a result. And that's Just the fact we don't need to keep score anymore. We have a computer that does it. We don't need to remember things. We have a phone that does.
Rich
And you know, the best example of that is. And we'll take a couple phone calls and again, we'll move on to baseball. But navigation, we are all severely like, you know, we. Our capacity to know where things are. Now, Covino, you've lived in California quite a while. You don't know where certain towns are because I don't either. I know this because you know why? Hey, Covino, we need you to go to this event in Santa Clarita. You'll be like, okay. Then you just pop it in your navigation and hope it's not that far.
Covino
I know that's outside the valley, just outside. You don't even know. So again, yeah, I mean, things change. But I remember, I try to remember most phone numbers, Rich, back to the original thought. 87799 on F Again, I hope you had a show, hey, showtime type of night. And my thought here is again, that's what superstars do. This is greatness right in front of us. A bona fide superstar, one could argue, and I don't think it's an argument, actually, if you're the one arguing, I just think you want to debate somebody and you're trying to be contrarian because he's the biggest star, the biggest star in sports by far. Right now. There is no debate, especially when you factor in the international fame that he's got.
Rich
All right, hold on now.
Covino
There's no debate, repeat that. Shohei Ohtani, especially after a walk off home run on his own bobblehead night. Mvp. Bobblehead night is doing what superstars do. The flair for the impossible, the flair for the big moment. The guy hitting a walk off on his night, he proves over and over again that he's the biggest star in sports, in the world.
Rich
Give me the biggest NBA star right now. Who would that be in your mind?
Covino
Biggest star in the world, right? LeBron James.
Rich
Just by name alone.
Danny G
By name only.
Covino
Yeah, he's still playing.
Rich
All right.
Covino
LeBron James, the biggest star.
Rich
Biggest star like he's, he's at the.
Covino
Mall, the mall's closing down type of star.
Rich
Biggest star in the National Football League, Patrick Mahomes.
Covino
Yes, that's a fair answer. You know, you could debate these things, though. I think you could debate all of those things. You could debate that. No, it's Steph Curry or no, it's whatever. You cannot debate Shohei Ohtani. That's the point.
Rich
Biggest star in hot dog eating.
Covino
And that's why it's so great for baseball. You have a guy like Aaron Judge who honestly is. His numbers are circus numbers. They're like Herman Munster numbers. Aaron Judge, every time he hits the ball, it goes 560ft. Yet Shohei is such a massive superstar. Like Judge has to take a back seat to the superstardom of Shohei Ohtani. It's unbelievable. And you know the difference. Aaron Judge dropped the ball in the World Series. Yeah, unfortunately, Aaron Judge redeem himself. Shohei Ohtani, calm, cool, collected, walk off with a smile. Never a doubt. That's what superstars do.
Iowa Sam
And it's done without really any commercial push because there's a language barrier. So it's not like he's in every commercial that you see. Like maybe Patrick Mahomes was for a while. LeBron will be special on HBO, this and that. He's here, there and everywhere. Commercials, movies, and it's all based on performance, which is pretty amazing.
Rich
Yeah, there's nothing.
Covino
And you know what, D.B. you nailed it. Because what's his weakness? Dude could run, dude could throw. He's hitting ball interpreters. There's nothing.
Rich
That's his crypto. There's nothing manufactured, nothing about. About the star that is Shohei Ohtani. That's a great point where everything is based on.
Covino
And he's at that level.
Rich
Surely his skill in the batter's box, on the mound, in. In every situation.
Covino
He's in rare company. Rich, I don't know if this is debatable. Read. I don't know if anyone said this yet, but he is at the level of like a Michael Jordan, if not there already, he's getting there. The more and more we see moments like this. And here's why I say that I wasn't a Bulls fan. I'm not from Chicago. But every kid under the moon wanted to be like Mike. Every kid, if you like sports, had a Jordan poster. You were Michael Jordan's. Meaning he transcended city, he transcended rooting interest. He was just great. And we embrace greatness. Right? So I think Shohei Ohtani is like on that level of like, it doesn't matter who you root for. I'm a Yankees fan. I'm embracing this dude and what he's doing every day because his greatness.
Rich
If the Dodgers win back to back series, which would be the first. Which would be the first team to do it since the Yankees in the late 90s, if you know it's been 25 years if the Dodgers win back to back and Ohtani just has another bananas year where he goes 50, 50, you know, hitting 300 coming up in the postseason, I would put him in that level of Michael Jordan. I don't see why you wouldn't. He's. It's like I feel like we're one big championship or one more, one more accomplishment.
Covino
He's internationally famous in every Latino country, in every Asian country, every in the United States. He's internationally known. Michael Jordan basketball wasn't big everywhere when he was big, so. And again. But a worldwide brand eventually. But that's the difference with Shohei. I think we're really underestimating and undermining the greatness that we're witnessing. And petty reasons to root against them are, are going to be put aside. I don't want to see the Dodgers win. No offense, Danny G. But I do enjoy watching this guy. He's.
Danny G
He's so likable. And it's the same way that I always admitted even though my favorite NFL is in the AFC West, I still liked Patrick Mahomes. He was likable. And Shohei is the same way. And the, the one thing that's already Jordanesque about Shohei is that it was awesome that he hit the walk off on his bobblehead night. But it was not surprising watching. And in the post Dodgers game show on Spectrum TV, they were saying 33 minutes ago, I predicted Chohei was going to do. But I think a lot of people watching were like, watch, watch. Shohei's going to win this. When it was tied up 5, 5 thanks to Max Mun, a lot of us were like, okay, watch what Shohei is going to do. And that's what we expected of Michael Jordan too. We knew he was going to hit.
Covino
The game winner because superstars, right? There are stars and then there's superstars. Stars. And we abuse the term superstars. We overuse it. Superstars rise to the occasion, right? And they live for that occasion. And Rich, there's like a science behind it where the moments slow down for these superstars. And I know you don't agree with what I'm about to say, but there's two other people that had this, this characteristic about them.
Rich
Don't ruin the conversation.
Covino
No, no, no. I'm not saying they're superstars, but they had this quality, ok? One of them is big Papi. If you don't think he had the flair for the dramatic, you're out of your mind.
Rich
This is.
Covino
And the other one is Derek Jeter. Whether you like him or not, the dude had too many of those Shohei type moments where it wasn't coincidence. Like every time it mattered, the guy came through. And that's the difference. Shohei is one of those guys. That's why it was odd to see Patrick Mahomes fall so flat in the world in the super bowl because you wouldn't have expected that from him because you had him in Superstar at a superstar level category. I think what we're seeing with Shohei is a once in a lifetime thing. I'm stating the obvious, Rich, because we, we already compared him to Babe Ruth. But I think his star is going to be bigger than Jordan's. He just needs a cool sneaker to accompany it.
Rich
International language barrier, yet still the biggest name in sports. All right, your thoughts? Your.
Covino
Well, the question is biggest star? Biggest star in sports in the world right now? If you, if you want to debate it, by all means, go ahead.
Rich
Travis Kelsey. Because he's dating Taylor Swift.
Covino
Not a chance.
Rich
I'm just throwing it out there.
Covino
I mean, no, it's fun.
Rich
It's a top 10 name recognition. Your thoughts? If it's not Ohtani, then who is it? There's not a boxer, there's not a UFC fighter, you know, Caitlin Clark's top 10 or 20 in the conversation. But does anyone really care about women's basketball? My argument is like someone's on the.
Covino
Edge of their seat or in their car right now and like Ronaldo or some, some soccer dude.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
And that would be a fair answer, especially if you go to social media and you see the messy. Yeah, they got circus numbers. Double like Kim Kardashian numbers. So I get it. That's a fair assessment. But I would argue that Shohei is that guy.
Rich
All right, your thoughts? We'll get to your feedback next. Shohei biggest in the world or not. Plus we'll go old school. Pay a little tribute to Val Kilmer and the great music in movie history all next right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Did you see that MLB collection last night? The Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night. There were special limited edition. There were special ones where the bat was a different color and they were. There are people now putting them up on ebay. I didn't know people still buy things on eBay. 900 to $1,000 for some of these.
Covino
I Did recently, actually.
Rich
You put something on ebay? Yeah. What are you selling?
Covino
I have AN M Sport BMW. Right?
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
And does that sound douchey?
Rich
Because 100%, that's what I'm.
Covino
I mean, what do I say? It explains my purchase, so there's no way to get around it. I guess I could have said I bought license plate covers and like caps for my tires, but they were specific for my M3.
Rich
Yeah, but they were.
Covino
They say M3 on it. I was going for the detail. EBay.
Rich
EBay, huh?
Covino
It's a 3 series. It's not a. Brad, trust me. I want a nicer car. I'm working hard for it. Next contract.
Danny G
You know, I got a Bentley keychain.
Covino
Recently from Amazon for my.
Rich
I just need the car for my Honda Civic.
Covino
Yeah, it was not meant to sound douchey at all. Yeah.
Rich
Guess what?
Covino
It really wasn't. But anyway, we're Kavino and Rich. That's Danny G. Super producing at 87799 on Fox. We got Iowa Sam on the ones and twos. DB's got your updates. But Rich, as Shohei continues to impress and we hear on the show say he's the biggest thing we've seen. Not since sliced bread. Since Michael Jordan. That's the truth. He is surpassing Jordan in my opinion. He just doesn't have a hit shoe yet that we are all jumping on. But he'll get there. I saw that espn, who doesn't even care about baseball like we do.
Rich
Yeah, how embarrassing that ESPN on their app move baseball like down the. Like. Like below, like the wnba.
Covino
No, they had a hot dog eating before baseball. Now meanwhile, baseball is like the hottest thing going. It's ridiculous. But they ranked the top 100 MLB players. Now, Shohei, I'm saying biggest in sports. But do you want to know who they say the top 10 baseball players are? I thought it was interesting.
Rich
Can I see how many I could get? I'm going to just list off a few. I want to see if they're in top 10.
Covino
Yeah, yeah, go ahead. Ready? And I'm starting with the number one because it's so damn obvious.
Rich
Shohei Ohtani.
Covino
Shohei Otani's number one.
Rich
Number two.
Covino
Look, in a countdown, you usually start from number ten, but number one. Shohei, you are.
Rich
No Casey Kasem or Spider Harrison. Starting with number one.
Covino
Coming in at number two, Spider Harrison.
Rich
How about just based on his performance yesterday and the hype, Paul Skeens seeing the top 10. He's got to be. How about Ron Soto?
Covino
No, no, that's what's great about this.
Rich
Mookie Bets.
Covino
No, beat it. Number two, coming in number two, Bobby Witt Jr. Dude, he's nasty. And he just might be. This might be his year. You see the plays this dude's making? Of course, I'm a Yankees fan, but you got to give your props to Bobby Witt Jr. Coming in, number three, Mookie bats. Dude, nice. And think about it. Just another flair for the dramatic athleticism. Just a big time player. I can't argue how great he. 50 and he's a small dude.
Rich
Did you see what they. They posted on. I think I could say this. They posted the Mookie got hit by a pitch. Did you see this? And they're saying it's the zestiest hit by pitch ever. Like, he puts his back here.
Covino
Like, that's so funny. Looks a little suspicious. Yeah.
Rich
Hey, so Mookie clear, Superstar, Otani, Bobby with Junior Judge and Soto got to be next back and back to back.
Covino
And also take this, because we're basically glazing, as the kitties say, Shohei Otani. But he is the best. In a time where there's so many great superstars, he still leaps and bounds. A bigger superstar than all these people.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
So you got Shohei Whit Jr, Mookie Betts, number three, Aaron Judge at number four.
Rich
That's fair.
Covino
Skeens at number five, Jose Ramirez at.
Rich
Number six, Jose Ramirez over Juan Soto.
Covino
Jordan Alvarez at number seven, your boy Juan Soto at eight, which I loved because I was hoping he didn't make the top 10 at all.
Rich
Oh, that's good, because he likes when people. He likes doubters.
Covino
Yeah, but I was surprised they had him ranked so low. But, you know, whatever. At 9, Zach Wheeler, and at 10, Scubal. So that's your top 10 according to ESPN. What do they know?
Iowa Sam
I do also want to point out that Rich named three of those guys, and every time, Kavina goes, no, no, but you said skins, right? You had SK and he goes, no, so don't bets. You're not even listening.
Rich
No, no, I nailed the list. You know what? I would have got wrong, though? I was. I would have thought that based on reputation and big player. Bryce Harper. Huh? Not on the list.
Covino
Not in the top 10 according to ESPN. I mean, lists are made to be discussed, so.
Rich
Call me crazy. I love Zach Wheeler. I think he's a great pitcher. Former New York Met, Philadelphia, Philly. But Zach Wheeler, top 10 player in the game, Cy Young candidate every year. But Zach, really?
Covino
They have Bryce harper at number 11. It's funny you say that.
Rich
I'm gonna see.
Covino
And Freddie Freeman at number 12. So you listen to these names, guys. You realize like this is. This is the weakest.
Rich
Are you saying baseball renaissance?
Covino
I was gonna give you the weakest analogy. Remember in the 90s when they called it the Disney Renaissance because Disney hadn't done diddly squat since Pinocchio until like Beauty and the Beast and then all.
Rich
Of a sudden it was Aladdin, Lion.
Covino
King and everything else, right? Baseball, as far as I see it, hasn't done anything since. Since Derek Jeter, in my opinion. Now you got Freddie Freeman, Vladdy Jr. Gunnar Henderson, Fernando Tatis, Lindor. Like the names are endless. And Shohei is still a star. A superstar amongst the stars.
Rich
No diggity no doubt it is.
Covino
It's the baseball renaissance. Enjoy it.
Rich
Enjoy it like you enjoyed Lion King and Little Mermaid, just like you enjoyed Pocahontas. All right, let's go to Dan Buyer for an update. DB what's up, my friend?
Iowa Sam
Guys, we start out with Major League Baseball where the Astros are leading the Twins 4 to 2 right now playing in the bottom of the fifth inning in Minneapolis earlier today, the Red Sox doubled up the Orioles 8 4. Alex Bregman his first home run in a Red Sox uniform while Kyle Schwaber sitting four home runs now on the season, homering today in the Phillies 31 win against the Rockies. USC's Juju Watkins was named the Associated Press Women's College Basketball Player of the Year. Final four for the women come up tomorrow. On Saturday, it's national semifinals in the men's game and All American Jennae Broom practice today for Auburn. Grizzlies guard John Morant won't be suspended for mimicking the firing of a gun during Tuesday's game against the Warriors. Golden State warriors guard or Buddy Heald also made similar actions. Both were given warnings. The NBA told ESPN while the actions were inappropriate, they believe both players weren't violent in nature. Knicks could be getting Jalen Brunson back soon. NBA insider Chris Haynes says Brunson will practice on Friday with the possibility of playing Saturday against the Hawks. Sixers are shutting Tyrese Maxey down for the season because of his finger injury. And now in the NFL Trey Mcrup brigade. Trey McBride is the highest paid tight end in the game. Four year extension from the Cardinals were $76 million. Raiders are giving Geno Smith a two year extension now. Fox Sports insider Jordan Schultz says it's worth $85.5 million with $66.5 million guaranteed. Other spots are saying it's a $75 million two year extension. Cowboys acquired Patriots backup quarterback Joe Milton in a trade early Thursday. Patriots getting a fifth rounder. Cowboys get Milton and a seventh rounder. Gu.
Rich
Thank you, DB And I'm glad the NBA didn't overreact to the the air gun only because like you remember in the postseason in the NFL, I forgot. I won't remember. A wide receiver did like first down.
Covino
With like it happened a few times.
Iowa Sam
Yeah.
Rich
And I remember it being a penalty and I'm like, Sierra, come on. Really? We're going to let that dictate 15 yards in a playoff game? Come on now.
Iowa Sam
Well, that player probably hasn't had gun related instances like John Morant has had. That's the real story with Morant.
Rich
What I love about Adam Silk, I.
Covino
Feel bad for shooter McGavin moving forward.
Rich
Happy Gilmore gonna be a struggle for that guy. I do think that something we lose a lot in not just sports, like life. You and I always talk about it intent, like that's you. And you and I were talking off the air about children cursing. Like if your kid curses because they're being disrespectful or bullying another kid or being mean, that's bad. But if your kids, you know, stubs their toe and they're like, oh, shh, you know, schnikes, are you really going to get that mad? Like everything's intent. I think so many people forget intent. That's all. D.B. you're the man. Thank you. Now, coming up, we're going to go old school when 50 hits turn away from sports for a second to pay tribute to a guy that everyone, you know realizes maybe more than they thought was a big part of their childhood. Val Kilmer, who passed away at the age of 65. And we're going to talk about great music in movies and of course, some more baseball, more NBA as we get closer. The Western Conference is tight. Tonight's a big one. Lakers, warriors, all that coming up. Kavino and Rich.
Covino

Jeremy Scott
Something unexpected happened after Jeremy Scott confessed to killing Michelle Schofield in Bone Valley Season one.
Danny G
I just knew him as a kid.
Jeremy Scott
Long, silent voices from his past came.
Gilbert King
Forward and he was just staring at me.
Jeremy Scott
And they had secrets of their own to share.
Gilbert King
Gilbert King I'm the son of Jeremy Lynn Scott.
Jeremy Scott
I was no longer just telling the story. I was part of it.
Gilbert King
Every time I hear about my dad is, oh, he's a killer. He's just straight evil.
Jeremy Scott
I was becoming the bridge between a killer and the son he'd never known.
Gilbert King
If the cops and everything would have done their job properly, my dad would have been in jail. I would have never existed.
Jeremy Scott
I never expected to find myself in this place. Now I need to tell you how I got here.
Gilbert King
At the end of the day, I'm literally a son of a killer.

There he is, Mr. Mojo Rising. You know who had that mojo besides Jim Morrison? Val Kilmer. He was more Jim Morrison than Jim Morrison. And he looked more like Jim Morrison than Jim Morrison.
Rich
We're going to talk about Val Kilmer in a few minutes when we go old school. But. But let me just give you a couple piece of. A couple pieces of advice.
Covino
Why don't you give me a go ahead.
Rich
What were you going to say?
Covino
I don't know.
Rich
Number one, don't look at your 401k today. Don't do that.
Covino
Didn't plan on it.
Rich
All right.
Covino
Is it terrifying? Good one.
Rich
I would say.
Danny G
I'm play the rim shot on yourself.
Rich
I mean, it's so good. I'll tell you what, that is a great pun, though. I'll give him that one.
Covino
His tariff.
Danny G
He still needs to play the rim.
Rich
Shot like your Eyes aren't deceiving you. Hopefully this is a nice bounce back. I'm not your financial advisor, but there's gonna come a point where it's like a nice time to dump into your market, you know, into your funds. Like, ooh, now, money to be made. But hey, don't look at your 401k. Don't pitch to Shohei Ohtani when the game is tied in the last inning. Don't do that. And any other advice? Oh, can't do it. Don't doubt Jokic moving forward. We saw the great performance the other night, Danny, during the break, we were talking about how effortless he looks, and we forget it was only a couple of years ago the Nuggets won the NBA title. And we're not including them in many of these conversations.
Danny G
Yeah, I mentioned that one of the other things that makes the greats, you know, elite is in. A lot of them have this trait where it looks like they're not even trying as hard as the other players. Like, it's just in their blood. Like, you think back to the way Larry Bird just effortlessly used to shoot the ball. Same with Jordan with the game winners. And Shohei, the way he's up at the bat and he just swings effortlessly. And you could say the same thing for the Joker. Brenda was watching that double overtime game with me the other night. And when he hit that clutch three, the way he shoots over his head, especially there, looks like he has no athleticism whatsoever. But the shots all go in and the way he just. The way it looks like he's just jokingly shooting the ball.
Rich
And now the big debate is Shaq or Jokic. That's the big social media debate. But one last thing on Ohtani, then we'll go old school. I think a layer of it is that while he isn't a guy you hear much from because of the language barrier, we're not hearing this guy do, like charismatic pre and post game things. How charming. Like, this might be. Like all. As the kids would say, this is like top level Riz. This guy's the Rizzler with his bow to every opposing manager. Like, is there not something so charming when he has a smile and he. And he just does his little bow to the opposing team? Like there's such a class. Charming likability. Ohtani, biggest superstar in sports today.
Covino
He's outdoing himself. You know, every date or something is crazy. A walk off on your own bobblehead night. Gilbert King
What we gonna do right here is.
Rich
Go back.
Covino
Into time.
Danny G
Throwing it back for a Thursday old school, when 50 hits at 50 after C and R. Give you the time capsule topic and we reminisce.
Rich
Yeah, I love it. Little throwback action every Thursday. People love reminiscing. People love the old school because you're an old fool. And you know what? I was Sam, you inspired me. And I'll tell you why. I wanted to talk about movie music today because it's National Movie Score Day and there's so many great songs and soundtracks that make movies. We'll get to that. But at the end of yesterday's show, I was. Sam was like, man, it's a bummer. We only spent like a minute on.
Covino
Can I tell you what Heid?
Rich
He said, we only spent a minute on a man that meant so much to us.
Covino
I know. You know, we had a heartfelt conversation about the late, great Val Kilmer. Rest in peace at 65. We're gonna honor him on old school in 50 hits. Think about movies with the best music scores and soundtrack. We're gonna take your phone calls next. But I was talking to Sam yesterday. Don't worry, Sam. I'm not gonna give any names. Sam's like, man, I didn't realize you were such a Val Kilmer guy. So cool that Cavino and Rich, you guys got to interview him. What was it like? He meant so much to me. So Sam was really putting his heart out there. Like, man, I can go on all day on how many movies I love from Val. What's your favorite? And one of our colleagues long jumped and leaped right into the middle of this conversation and he said, covino. Those torpedo bats. Am I right? You know, Sam dismissed him with great authority and said, hey, man, I'm trying to have a real serious conversation about Val Kilmer. He goes, I swear to you, he goes, not to be rude, but this conversation, Kuwait, I'm talking to Covino right now. And I was like, yeah.
Rich
I was like, who was it?
Covino
Who was it?
Rich
But you gotta tell me, who was it? Come on, who was it?
Covino
Underscore approaches and he's like, hey, Kavino, how about them torpedo bats?
Rich
And I'm like, blank. We're talking about Val Kilmer here.
Covino
The guy in his handled.
Danny G
It's his name. Where I'm with.
Covino
No, he handled it with grace. So he wasn't like, I'm sorry, he was like, offended or anything. He just like, you know, he's like, all right, whatever. But, man, Sam gave him the scramble. Emma, ding dong. We're talking here like adults with talking. It was. It was wild to see, but I didn't. I didn't really. I don't know. I didn't know what to think of it, but. All right, we're going to give you the proper time right now.
Rich
So Val Kilmer movie music, a lot of fun. Next right here, Covino and Rich.
