Yeah, definitely is. But, you know, with this league come injuries for sure. Yeah. We can't sit back and harp on, you know, we lost this game because we didn't have this person. We lost this game. We didn't have this person. Like, I've sat back and watched this team win, win games with, you know.

Yeah.

[Deebo Samuel]

A lot of the stars that we have on our team hurt. So, I mean, we can't sit back and blame that, but it definitely play a part in it. But overall, you know, definitely anx to get back. Definitely extras to get back to work with all the guys, for sure. Just, you know, we got this chip on our show. Like, this is like my real first year of not making the playoffs since I've been a Niner, and it just feels so weird just to sit back and just sit back every Sunday and be like, yo, yeah, this team is playing with. Normally, you know, we'd all teams that's always knocking that.

[AJ Stephens]

These teams thinking if we were full strength, we'd whoop all these teams.

[Deebo Samuel]

I mean, there's a lot of ifs, but we wasn't there. So we just. We just. We just get ready for this year.

[AJ Stephens]

We're talking to your dude, Fred Warner the other day.

[Rich Davis]

Yeah.

[AJ Stephens]

And I said as a fan and as a guy at the team, we were feeling the same thing every week. It was like, all right, next week is when things turn around.

[Nate Thompson]

Yeah.

It just never. It never happened. But next year with everyone healthy and.

And it's at Levi's, next year it's.

[AJ Stephens]

Going to be homecoming. You're going to do it. Yasil, is it. Is it fun to work with Deebo on this campaign?

I've been a fan of this guy since he was at Carolina, so, yeah, you know, he's. It's great to be standing next to someone I've admired. I'm a frustrated athlete myself. And just to be, you know, to finally meet divers and tell him about all of the great moments that I've enjoyed watching him create is. It's been special. And to do it with Mountain Dew is amazing.

[AJ Stephens]

What we find awesome is the mutual respect. We talk to a lot of, you know, superstars in the music world. They admire athletes, and athletes admire people in the music world. It's like a mutual respect.

[Seal]

Sport is an allegory for life. I think that's why people connect with it so much.

[Nate Thompson]

You.

[Seal]

You can see a lot of the daily trials and tribulations and challenges that we go through in life. You can see them being played out on the football field, you know, or whether it's on a tennis court. It's. You're watching life unfold. And to see an athlete transcend something that has been holding them back, you know, it's a reflection on life. And so that's my connection with sport.

[Nate Thompson]

Well, CL, I could tell you you're probably a great athlete. You're a big dude.

[Deebo Samuel]

No, no, no, no.

[Seal]

I'm a frustrated athlete.

[Nate Thompson]

Frustrated athlete.

[Seal]

Like, I'm not a great athlete. I try, you know, and. And that's. That's the important thing.

[Nate Thompson]

But, Debo, is there an artist inside? Man, can you sing? Are you any good at any instruments or.

[Seal]

You don't have to say.

[Nate Thompson]

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Deebo Samuel]

I mean, I got a. I got a little voice on me. I got a little. Little something.

[Nate Thompson]

But was there a part of you growing up that you're like, man, I kind of want it? No, always athlete from day one. When did you realize that? At a very young age.

[AJ Stephens]

Yeah.

[Deebo Samuel]

So I kind of started playing tackle when I was like, 4 years old.

[Nate Thompson]

Oh, so that was it.

[Deebo Samuel]

Yeah, that was it. My dad was my coach for a long, long, long time. And, you know, I always played with the. With the older than me for. It's like my brother and all that stuff.

[Nate Thompson]

Same question for you, Seal. Like, did you know, like, I'm going to be a singer? At an early age, he thought he.

[Deebo Samuel]

Was going to be a tennis player.

[AJ Stephens]

I heard say tennis before. Yeah.

[Nate Thompson]

So at first it was tennis.

[Seal]

I wanted to be a tennis player. I didn't think I was going to be. You know, I had. I had a teacher at school, Mr. Ren, and I idolized him. He was the cool teacher, and I wore the cool clothes. Like, everyone took. Everyone wanted to be like him. He was different from all the other teachers. And he sat sang, you know, he was a singer but then, you know, he got a real job as a teacher. And I kind of started singing because I guess I wanted to be like him. And he put me on stage when I was 11 at the parents and Teachers association evening to sing a Johnny Nash song called I Can See Clearly Now. You guys are probably too young to remember that. And I remember going to the stage, it was the scariest thing that ever happened. He called my name and it was acapella. So they were, you know, I had no backing. He called my name, he said, we got this. Young Seal's gonna sing a song for you right now. And I walked to the stage and I saw my parents in the audience and all of these. All of the parents of the other kids and everyone there. And literally I wanted the stage to just open up and swallow me. I was frozen, but I closed my eyes and I sang this song. And it was. It was kind of like that scene in a movie. You could hear a pin drop. I sang this song, and at the end of it, I still had my eyes closed and everyone clapped and I saw my parents going, wow.

[Nate Thompson]

Mouth dropped. Wow.

[Seal]

And so that place that turned into the scariest place place on earth, it immediately felt like home. And so I always knew I would return there. So I guess the reason, the real takeaway from that story is that we all need people to see us. We need, you know, for you, it was your dad who saw you and saw something great in you when you were four years old, you know, and you were playing tackle at that age, you know, he saw it in you. For me, it was Mr. Ren. He saw me and, you know, whereas other teachers thought I was going to be a waste of time, you know, because I have adhd, so I never paid attention school and they thought I was going to be a waste of time, but he saw me and he brought out something special.

[Nate Thompson]

It's an amazing story, man.

[AJ Stephens]

This is perfect because when I'm here, I'm missing career day at my kids school. I'm going to send them this clip. How cool was that? Ms. Wagner's class is going to see Seal and Debo. I start coincidentally coaching my son, who's four this weekend. So I got to keep that eye out.

[Deebo Samuel]

Yeah, for sure.

[AJ Stephens]

Maybe my son will be the next Debo. Samuel. I. I got to ask. People talking about you rolling up in an Eagles jersey this week, is that you just support your boy? People making a big deal about this for no reason.

[Deebo Samuel]

Just. That's definitely me supporting my brother for sure. Been locked in for a Long time now. We're going on about 88 years of, you know, being my guy, you know, just showing support. You know, I always say, like, if I'm not in it, I want one of my peers to win it.

[AJ Stephens]

Of course.

[Nate Thompson]

Am I feeling a little Eagle biased here? Because you're supporting your boy and he wants to fly like an eagle to the sea.

[Seal]

I'm not going to let you do that. No, that song is. That song that you just sing in there.

[Nate Thompson]

Right.

Is literally the only association I have with the Eagles. It begins and ends there.

[Nate Thompson]

Really? Okay.

But I can only imagine 02 against the Chiefs. You can't be loving this team.

No, no, no. Not at all.

Not at all. Not at all. Robert Salabeck, is that a big deal for you, even though you're on the offense? He seems like such a vibe guy now.

[Deebo Samuel]

Hey, man, this man energy is. Is through the roof. I seen that happen. I was like, bro, we got one of our core guys back. Because when I got drafted there, he was there.

[AJ Stephens]

Yeah.

[Deebo Samuel]

So, like, you know, he was. He was the high energy guy. The. To get everybody going. When. When things ain't going right. He always there to bring it back. Back together. Like, he. He's the guy for sure.

Know what I always wonder? Kavina, is there. Is there a 49ers group chat and you. Are you guys talking about this while we're learning about it? No, no, no.

Everybody be cool and just. Because at the end of the day, there's nothing that we could control. It's just, you know.

The first preseason game I watched him play, we played Houston, and he showed glimpse of like, yo, like, this kid is talented. And I'm just like, he just get out the pocket. He'll be moving. I'm just like, yo, like, who is this guy? Like, you know, he always. One of the guys that practiced, that stood at the back. Like, he used to just throw. Like, he told me a story. He's like, hey, Deebo, man, I used to just. I just think he was just so mean and just.

[AJ Stephens]

This is funny.

[Deebo Samuel]

He's like, I just throw you the ball and just turn around before you even catch it so you don't come back and talk to me.

[Nate Thompson]

I love what. I love what you said. Your response to these guys saying, lucky. You know, I heard this great quote by my brother, Tiger woods, one day when somebody accused him of being lucky, and he said, yep, how do I practice, the luckier I get, right? And I think that's the case with bro. I once heard. I think it was. I think it was my brother Steve Young, talking about the quality, the intangibles of a quarterback that not a lot of people pick up on. And he said that, like, what he learned from Montana was that that if the game's on the line and, you know, you got to perform the value in going into the huddle with your guy, with your leader, and you see that he's cool and he's not panicking, and he's calm and he's confident. So I wanted to ask you, what is it like in those moments when you go into the huddle and you see your guy Brock, who's calm?

Sometimes it be crazy, because sometimes Kyle get to play in late, and, you know, them quarterbacks get frustrated. He's like, I can't hear nothing. He be like, all right, bro, let's get him. I'm about to. All right, ready? Break. So he's like, all right. You have no choice but to get in this car with this dude, no matter where he going, and just sit back and Ride with him.

He's the, like. When I say like, I mean, it's like the moment is never too big for him. Like, see, the only time he get kind of frustrated is when him and Kyle is going back and forth on the headset. And the time getting low and Cal saying one word, but want to change the play. He changed about four, five times. Marcus, like, bro, like what? Give me the play. Like, give me something.

Some woman on the elevator says this as I'm going down to meet you guys for dinner, man, the hotel lobby is crazy. You're in New Orleans. Who would ever get dinner at the hotel? Hey, where are you headed?

And I go to get dinner at the hotel.

It was great, though. The restaurant at our hotel is good.

[Nate Thompson]

Yeah, I mean, convenience right there, and it was good. It had a good vibe. There's a buzz in the lobby. You know, there's superstars and celebrities. Our colleagues are there partying. Yeah, why not? Yeah, it's fun. It was fun.

[AJ Stephens]

So we sit down. There's about eight. There's eight of us. We're hanging with some of the other On Air folks, our buddy, Rob Parker. Our buddy Weiss Covino, Spot video guy.

[Nate Thompson]

You really do have a great team. And it really does feel like you're.

Hanging out with Good bud through all you guys. I was at Chris Stapleton.

[AJ Stephens]

Yeah, I know.

Danny G was at a Series XM concert.

Chris Stapleton, our buddy, super agent Sean Wyman was at Dinner. So here's the question. The waiter comes over who's also the bartender. They were.

They were efficient.

[AJ Stephens]

They were packed last night. So this guy comes out from behind the bar, and we. Our buddy that runs all the stuff here at Fox Sports Radio and Iheart, he's.

[Nate Thompson]

Well, not all the stuff. Mike runs this place. But Dave, we also, you know, is a powerful man, let's put it that way.

[AJ Stephens]

And he's like, yo, this bartender is great.

[Deebo Samuel]

He.

[AJ Stephens]

He gives a nice solid pour of a cocktail. He's good, he's quick. He, you know, he knows what's up. This guy comes over to our table and he's like, all right, appetizers, drinks and food, go.

[Nate Thompson]

Remember, there's eight of us, and there's eight of us.

And I'm like. I'm looking. He's like, no notepad, nothing. He's looking around and it's. And there's a couple pain in the asses, like, big mics, like, no croutons or something. And Covino, he was insistent upon. I got it. And he did not make one mistake.

I don't appreciate this.

[AJ Stephens]

Is that a pet peeve?

[Nate Thompson]

I really don't. Because if he were to make a mistake, because nobody's perfect except for Kurt Hennig, and he died so it would come back to. See, that's why you should have wrote it down. I said no cheese. I said no croutons, or whatever the case may be. There's no way he's always gets it right. You know what I mean? So I'm sort of, like, wary of this whole thing. I'm like, I don't like that. Why do you do that? It bothers me. Write it down. And then I have another question based on that. Danny G, what was your take on that?

[Rich Davis]

Just that he's trying to pull a Jay Z because he hove. Always pulled that thing where people are stunned because he would walk into the booth and just start rapping from what he wrote in his head.

[Nate Thompson]

Right, right, right.

So these waiters. Try pulling that.

Yep. Yeah.

You don't trust it.

I didn't tr. I always. As a waiter, you know, in my previous life, previous career, I always wrote everything down. I'm not taking that chance because again, I don't know, man. I guess the kitchen got it wrong. I wrote it. I entered it just the way you said it. I have written down right here.

Were you. Are you in the Bennigan's hall of Fame?

I am, actually. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They retired my.

One move is when the guy, like, kneels down to your level. Like, he kneel. Like. And he got his elbows on the table. Like, so how you guys doing? It's like, hey, man, can you, like, stand up?

I know it's supposed to be cute, but it also bothers me when an attraction active waitress, like, scoots in your table.

[Nate Thompson]

I was just.

Yeah, I was just gonna say that with someone, like, you know, squeeze a chick and they sit next to you when they're taking the order. I'm like, get out of my booth. I don't like it. I don't like these little tactics, I guess. But I did want to ask this question, too, based on work trips and, you know, hanging with your colleagues, and a lot of times, you don't venture off too far on these adventures. But is it lame to get the same thing more than once when you're in a new city? We're in New Orleans, Right. So we were staying at the Marriott. They had a really great salad at this place we speak of called the summer salad. I got this, Rich. No joke. Maybe four times, five times, maybe this entire week, every time, I got it. Is that the lamest move of all time? Or when you like something, you stick with it? That's my question.

[AJ Stephens]

That restaurant had shrimp and grits.

[Nate Thompson]

Yeah, but you're always taking a chance. I didn't feel like taking that chance.

They had a ribeye. They had a cheeseburger. They had, like, a Southern fried chicken dish, like, summer salad.

Had some grilled chicken on it. I enjoyed it.

You know what else? They had a potential stomach ache. Which is what Rich had prior to the show.

You know, I may have changed my mind on how fun it'll be. I still stand by the fact that, that a lot of our parents and aunts and uncles and, you know, the older people in your life might not really know.

[Nate Thompson]

You know what? The truth is, Danny G. And I were talking about this on our way to get that same salad again. For the fifth time, the NFL is not trying to win older people over. They don't care if your dad likes Kendrick Lamar or not. You know why? Because your dad's tuning into the NFL no matter what. They're trying to win over new fans all the time.

[AJ Stephens]

It's a great point.

It's great marketing. He's the hottest guy going right now. He just won, what, five Grammy Awards.

And some reason they're so psyched with Taylor Swift bringing new fans.
