Rich
David Tastic.
Covino
Buddy.
Rich
Little. Little extra traffic today.
Covino
Yeah, but if you say that every day, aren't you just supposed to leave earlier? Like there's traffic every day?
Danny G
No, no. They're doing freeway work on the one on one though. Can they do that in the middle of the night?
Covino
I mean, I wish I wasn't even calling you out.
Iowa Sam
Sometimes they do.
Covino
I'm calling.
Danny G
No, no, I know, but I feel.
Covino
Like four out of five days a week, Rich is like traffic. Sometimes I like I left.
Danny G
I left on time. I give myself an hour to drive. It took 51 minutes just to get to where Rich lives. And that's another Half hour from there.
Covino
Yeah. But, you know, think from my standpoint. I love hanging out with Big Mike, who runs this place, but I'm hanging out with him, like, for a half hour by myself while you guys are in your car listening to the Proclaimers.
Rich
So I was listening to Bread. Yeah, baby, I'm a want you.
Covino
But anyway, I'm not complaining, just explaining.
DB
What's up, DB As I walked by, Covino gave me that hand signal that if you're, like, abducted by someone, that you should give. And that's what he gave me. So with Big Mike. Yes.
Covino
Yeah, I know Mike's whole life story. Cause I'm waiting for these guys to show up.
Rich
But then I was on Supermarket Sweep.
Covino
And then when I was 18 years.
Rich
Old, there was one time I was playing the Scrabble in a Jerry Coleman show.
Covino
Actually, I love my quality time with Mike. Whose place? Because that's quality time. It is. It is. That's where he shares his words of wisdom with me. But remember, we'll share that later on. Gotta start this professional gram of ours off this program off with something called what's Worse? And it is, or seems to be an obvious answer.
Rich
Oh, silverback gorilla.
Covino
Well, we answered that hypoth, by the.
Rich
Way, since we talked about it, I feel like everyone listening is like, oh, you idiots. I've seen it now. It's infiltrated everyone's algorithm.
Iowa Sam
It's literally everywhere. It's been on every show.
Covino
Everywhere.
Rich
We did it on Doug show last.
Covino
Hour, swept the nation. It's unbelievable how this. This question's garnered so much debate.
Rich
Even the jackass dudes like Steve O. And Pontius and all those guys are like, listen, we've been up close with these gorillas. We've thought about doing bits with them. One gorilla will rip apart 100 men.
Danny G
See, your boy Sean Merriman said he could. He could take one out.
Covino
Sign him up. Yeah, you know what? I think we answered it when we found out. I don't know if you saw this, but it went viral last night.
Rich
There's an answer.
Covino
There is an answer. 1. Chuck Norris could beat up 100 silverback gorillas. @ least we answered that part of the question. No, we're done with that debate, even though the rest of the world isn't. The question is, what's worse? The answer seems obvious, but we're gonna give you a case by case sort of situation where you could decide 87799 on Fox to chime in. What's worse? A kid embarrassing their parent or a Parent embarrassing their kid. Now, you could easily say, well, clearly it's the parent embarrassing their kid.
Rich
I don't know.
Covino
Again, I can make a case for both, Rich, because today the Falcons were fined $250,000 and Jeff Ulbricht was fined $100,000, totaling $350,000 in fines because his nose picking kid, who's 21 years old, by the way, Jack Zolbrick pranked Shador Sanders. Man, that's embarrassing to his dad, to the organization, to everybody. Okay, so that's a kid embarrassing the parent. And then, of course, when it comes to parents embarrassing the kid. Did you see Tyrese Halliburton's dad last night? That was kind of embarrassing. He's the daddy. Talk about habitual line stepping. Crossing the line as a parent. And it starts like in Little League. You have to know these things. When you go to a little League game, Rich will tell you. He's Coach Dickey. There's signs at the Little League field. Parents remember, the kids are watching, insinuating, don't embarrass your kids.
Rich
I'm glad you said that, because I. There's two big stories. We're gonna dive into both of them. Like we're Jacques Cousteau or Greg Louganis. We're gonna dive into the Halliburton Giannis story.
Covino
Well, it depends how deep you want to dive.
Rich
The Ulbricht story. We're just not gonna go in one of those submarines that have heard bad news about this.
Covino
No, no. But I have stories, other stories for each side of the case.
Rich
But when you said it all starts as little kids. Yeah. The parent in the stands, essentially bat dad from South Park. Bat dad who's at the fence. Come on, Ba. Hey, elbow up, Johnny. Come on. Oh, come on. Why you. Good eye. Good eye. Oh, come on. That guy is a freaking embarrassment to his kid. But you know what's also embarrassing as a coach? I'll tell you right now. When your kid is the one that won't listen or talks back to you.
Covino
And screams and cries at the game.
Rich
If your kid's the one that cries, if your son or daughter is the one that has a meltdown, you don't think that's embarrassing.
Covino
And you know what? Rich is so right on that. Again, we assume that the parent embarrassing the kid is by far the answer. But we can make a case for the flip side. Guys, this is one clear example right there. Here's a parent giving up his time to be there for his kid. And then you have this kid undermining the dad, humiliating the dad, Cursing out the dad in front of not only the other teammates and the other kids, but all the parents. And you know what happens till this day? I'm 40 something years old. Sam, Danny G. I know I look like a spry 20 something, but I'm 40 something years old. I still remember those kids that embarrassed their parents at the Little league game, that would cry and kick and scream and yell at their dad who was coaching, giving up his time, trying to be there. Still remember these kids. They were an embarrassment. An embarrassment. So what's worse? Kid embarrassing the parent, parent embarrassing the kid. And why. 87799 on Fox.
Rich
Man, there's so many layers.
Covino
There's so many layers.
Rich
If your kid, let's say your daughter's in gymnastics and she starts crying and doesn't want to go on the beam or something, and the teacher's like, is she okay? And then you have to be like, honey, come here, kids. Oh, this is a tough one. How about because your instinct is to say when your parents embarrass you, that's the worst. But if you, if you're not a parent, you don't know that feeling of that, that when your kid's the one that doesn't listen.
Covino
But here's the thing. It doesn't take a lot for a parent to embarrass their kid. I embarrassed my kid this morning because I was playing yacht rock when I dropped her off at high school. She's like, dad, please can you lower Ambrosia, please? Not everybody likes.
Rich
What song was it?
Covino
Seals and Croft. What were you playing? Baby, I'm a want you Baby, I need you. Oh, Brett. Oh, Ambrosia, you're the biggest part of me. I was in my yacht rock zone.
Iowa Sam
Isn't that like a skin disorder?
Covino
That alone embarrasses my kid. I mean, you could say something to their friends, like, dad, you embarrassed me.
Spot
What?
Covino
I said hi to your friends. It was the way you said it.
Rich
Sometimes I try to embarrass my kids, to test my limits of where I'm at. Because my kids are still young enough, Danny. Where I'm like, sort of cool dad. And I'm waiting for them to be like, ah, my daughter's dance class. I was a little late to it, and I wanted, I wanted her to know I was there watching her. Cause I'm like, dad's gonna come straight from work. I pop my head in and I go, yeah, is this the dad's hip hop dance class? And my daughter looked at Me and laughed. I'm like. Cause that's gonna run out soon. Yeah, that's gonna run out soon.
Covino
But again, a parent should know better, right? A parent should know better when it comes to embarrassing their kid, which is why Tyrese Halliburton's dad really overstepped by taunting a superstar on the court last night. We all saw the footage, and at first we were like, what's going on, man? Are they just getting aggressive? Is this a form of love and respect? Like, nah, that was a heated exchange yesterday, and that was not cool. And even Tyrese was embarrassed by his dad. He said it in the press conference. If you missed it, guys, here's the flip side to what we're saying.
Tyrese Halliburton
You know, as far as the incident between Giannis and my pops, I. You know, I don't think that my pops was in the right at all there. And unfortunate, you know, what happened in the end there. But, I mean, this series was a lot of war of words, a lot of war of antics, a lot of stuff going back and forth, and that's just part of, you know, this. This rivalry and what we've built here over the last couple years. And, you know, it's unfortunate what happened there, but I think it's just competition. And as far as my pops, again, I don't agree what happened there? We'll have a conversation. You know, everybody's grown men, and, you know, we'll. We'll just go from there.
Rich
He was in the face of Giannis.
Covino
In the face.
Rich
In the face.
Covino
And he was holding up a towel of Tyrese's face, taunting Giannis, but in defeat.
Rich
By the way, you recently cove went on a. A fun rant about how poor Patrick Mahomes has to do with his dad and John Rocker and all that.
Covino
Bad enough I got my brother and Brittany in the news, and I got my dad fighting John Rocker.
Iowa Sam
Like Dewey's.
Covino
I'm just trying to be a good guy, trying to win some Super Bowls, trying to stay out of that, and, you know, I got them bringing down my image. You think Patrick Mahomes needs his dad fighting John Rocker? Hell, no. So a parent is really stepping the line when they're putting their kid in a bad situation. A parent's supposed to support their kid.
Rich
Big but. And I know you like big butts.
Covino
I do. I cannot lie.
Rich
Here's a big butt. But if your kids groan and they embarrass you, then there's that sense of, oh, what did I do wrong along the way? A la not to get Political, like Hunter Biden or, like, you know, like Bill Clinton's brother. Like, when you have, like, relatives in the political world or, you know, if your kid embarrasses you on that level.
Danny G
Yeah, Rich, I was gonna mention. I think that's the difference here. And even if your kids are younger, the other people around could judge you for how you're raising the kids. I don't blame Tyrese for something his dad does.
Covino
No, no. Great point. Great point. And, you know, back to that. Giannis went on and he was asked about it and just explained that victory doesn't give you the green light to taunt and disrespect. He felt disrespected in that moment. Take a listen.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
I believe, like, being humble in victory, that's the way I am now. There can be a lot of people out there that are like, no. When you win the game, it's a GRE light for you to be disrespectful towards somebody else. I disagree. I've won the championship. They haven't. Okay. And that doesn't say anything. I'm not trying to minimize their effort, but losing the game, emotions run high. Having a fan, which at the moment, I thought it was fun, but then I realized it was Tyrese son, which I love Tyrese. I think he's a great competitor. He was his dad. Sorry.
Covino
So we asked you again, what's worse, a kid embarrassing their parent or their parent embarrassing their kid in regards to everything that happened this week. Jax Ulbricht embarrassing his dad and Tyrese Halliburton's dad embarrassing Tyrese. Last night we mentioned Patrick Mahomes dad. He's embarrassing Patrick all the time. I got to mention this. I don't know if you saw this. It's actually an old clip that went viral just again this week. Maybe this story's sort of on everybody's conscious radar with everything going on. It happened at a Concord, North Carolina, where it was a youth wrestling match, and two kids are wrestling like young teens, and one kid makes an illegal move, and the referee is like, hey, illegal move. And he stops and he points at the kid. Like, I'm going to take away a point or whatever. He says to the kid. The referee is just doing what a referee does. The kid's blow hard. Dad comes storming at the referee, pummels him, knocks him down. And it's an f around and find out situation, as it turns out, because, oh, my God, look at this, dad. He just pummeled the referee who was doing his job. That Referee turned out to be a lawyer and got this dude in some hot water. But again, dad's overstepping, embarrassing the kids. It's always that blowhard dad at the game. It's like, you're embarrassing your kid, man.
Iowa Sam
Pop Warner football dads.
Covino
Pop Warner football dads. Or as Rich called it before, daddy ball. But again, yeah, kids could embarrass the parent.
Rich
Let me give. I'll give you a couple examples. You tell me what's worse. I'll take it out of sports for a second, then we'll go back to sports.
Covino
I have an answer, Rich.
Rich
For instance, like Meghan Markle's dad, remember when she got all involved with the Royal family? He was like, maybe trying to like sell the story. And talking to tabloids is like, oh, man, it's embarrassing.
Covino
But it goes back. Danny made a really great point, Rich. Yeah, that's embarrassing. Right? But it really is no reflection of them. That's the thing. It really is. If my parents are a holes. Yeah, that's really no or shouldn't be any reflection of me or you. Right? So that's the only difference when it comes to that.
Rich
Like Justin Bieber, who is a talented dude, I mean, he's gone through some ups and downs, but like, every so often his dad will come out and say, allegedly, some like, anti gay stuff. And then Bieber's gotta be like, ah, it's my dad. I don't feel that way.
Covino
You know, you're adding to the ammunition right now.
Rich
But now let's go on the flip. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. Arguably one of the greatest couples in Hollywood, Tom Hanks was cheering on Lindor last night. Did you see that?
Covino
Yeah. Thought he was a Dodgers fan.
Rich
Tom Hanks and Reed Wilson. Now we know him as the star of a Netflix show with Kate Hudson. But for a long time it was like, what happened to Chet Hanks? They raised that kid.
Covino
He's tarnishing the name a little.
Rich
So you got to ask yourself, what's worse, the kid embarrassing the parents or the parents embarrassing the kid?
Covino
Speaking of recent, again, these are recent stories. Okay. Just this past weekend, you know, I'm a big fight fan. There was a huge fight between Connor Ben and Chris Eubank Jr. Leading up to the fight. This is a family legacy fight. Both of their Dads fought in 1990, so Nigel Ben fought Chris Eubank Sr. In 1990. Anyway, family legacy, pride on the line. Their sons are fighting this past weekend. Connor, Ben and Chris Eubanks Sr. Chris Eubank Sr. I don't know if you saw this. Took an egg and smashed an egg into the face of Connor Ben at the press conference.
Rich
Humiliating.
Covino
It seems like a WWE sort of antic, but it wasn't. It was a humiliating, disgraceful sort of moment. And Chris Eubanks dad again, who was also a fighter and prideful dude from Jamaica, he was like, my son disgraces me. He embarrasses me. That's not a professional. How do you look your kids in the face, smashing an egg in public, using profanities, cursing. He' disgrace. He was so embarrassed that his son would stoop so low and do something so low brow and lame in a, in a competition in this way. So again, a lot of times the kids embarrass the dads. That just happened this past weekend. And it was a great fight, by the way. That was a great fight. And Chris Eubank Jr. Ended up winning. Side note, making his dad proud. But a kid could really embarrass you. And you don't think Julio Seycheller Chavez Sr. Is embarrassed by his son who's fighting Jake Paul in June? I bet you he was at one point.
Rich
The two big sports stories that are going on as we speak give you both angles of this. Jeff Albrecht got to be embarrassed by his son's actions.
Covino
Pranking Shador Sanders cost him in the team 350,000.
Rich
And then on the flippity dip of it, then you got the other side where it's like, Tyrese Halliburton's pops is embarrassing him. And I got a few more I thought of. So tell me what you think of these.
Covino
All right?
Rich
Because you could argue both sides are like, well, they're embarrassing him or they embarrassing.
Covino
Give me a few more examples and then I'll think about what's worse, give you my answer. We'll take some phone calls.
Rich
Billy Ray Cyrus, one hit wonder.
Covino
Oh, his dance moves are just straight up embarrassing. Does his, his dance moves embarrass me?
Rich
Does his whole public Persona and what he is embarrass Miley Cyrus?
Covino
Yeah, but there was a point in time where he was a heartthrob and he was the coolest guy going. But, yeah, I get what you're saying. Go ahead.
Rich
Michael Jordan's son getting arrested with Larsa Pippen back in the day. Like, is MJ's son doing him no favors?
Covino
Doing him no favor. He's doing the legacy in the family name. Drug possession, Drug possession, no favors whatsoever. The Jordan name is a prestigious name now.
Rich
You could look at this on both sides of it. Elon Musk. Are his kids embarrassed to him or is he embarrassed of his kids? Like, that's a double doozy, right? Depending on.
Iowa Sam
Well, one of his kids is definitely embarrassed of him.
Rich
Yeah. But I think he's equally embarrassed of how many.
Iowa Sam
He has, like, 19 children, so one's.
Rich
Bound to be embarrassing, odds are. I'll give you another one. This is a political one. Elle King, the singer, she has a couple pop songs. Her dad is sweet Robbie Schneider, and she's like, my dad's a Republican and I don't talk to him. And then he had to come out and be like, I'm trying to mend the men men things with my daughter.
Covino
So, you know, on a lower level, guys, based on that point, Rich with L. King and sweet Robbie Schneider, how many people I know, close friends of mine that are so embarrassed by their family members and parents political views on social media?
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
Because everyone's so outspoken, like, oh, geez, that's all I need is my mom or dad to be spewing their political views, embarrassing me in front of all my friends and everybody on social media. It's embarrassing. So I have an answer, and I will give it. Any final thoughts before we go ahead? Sam?
Iowa Sam
There is a bit more context to that Rob Schneider and his daughter thing. Like, I think she said that he sent her off to, like, a fat camp when she was younger, and she always resented.
Rich
Was she fat?
Iowa Sam
I don't know, but she was just maybe chunky. Had sort of that baby weight as a teenager.
Rich
Oh, maybe he did her a favor.
Iowa Sam
Maybe he did. But I think she really resents him for that because she's spoken about how, like, their relationship started to sort of unravel a lot longer ago than just.
Rich
Did he say that camp, or did he say go to fat camp, fatty? Because there's a big difference.
Iowa Sam
I think he actually sent her to camp, and it was not a good experience for her.
Covino
So we gave you plenty of examples.
Rich
I'd rather go to baseball camp if.
Covino
You want to give us more examples or you have any thoughts on this. We get to all the feedback in all the phone calls, and I'll give you my answer. Rich will give you his final answer. What do you think about it?
Rich
Will you think about it?
Covino
What's worse, the kid embarrassing the parent or worse or the parent embarrassing the kid, which is what we saw last night with Hella Burton's dad. We'll get to your phone calls next on Fox Sports Radio. Cavino and Rich.
Rich
All right, let's talk a little about our friends at Travis Matthew. The apparel, the gear, everything from the featherweight jeans to those shoes.
Covino
Oh, it's gotta be the shoes, yo.
Rich
They got these shoes that are that. That perfect in between sneaker and dress shoe where it's comfy but yet sharp looking.
Covino
Perfect pair of shoes. For any adventure with Travis Matthew footwear, your feet will thank you. The new lineup offers unparalleled comfort, style and performance. Whether you're hitting the gym, playing around, or exploring the city, they got the perfect pair of shoes for you to elevate your look and your step. I got them. I got those hybrid bad boys, like this olive green one.
Rich
You pointed out the other day that in one of our recent videos at Covino and Rich, I'm wearing some like, really nicely fitted black button down.
Covino
Yeah, I'm kind of jealous, Travis Matthew.
Rich
Well, I'll tell you what, at the Super Bowl a couple months ago, Camino breaks out this nice overjacket. I'm like, where'd you get that? I thought he, you know, I got.
Covino
This sweet gray overshirt with like the furry black collar. Yeah. All Travis Matthew, which you may relate to and think about. Oh, yeah, that's the. They got the golf stuff, right? Yeah, they do. And they have some sweet golf stuff, but they have stuff for everybody. So if you're making a sweet purchase for spring or summer, now's the time.
Rich
It's funny you would say that. I was at the little league field with my son and I saw one of the dads wearing a Travis Matthew hat. And I go, yeah, I. You know, they work with it. We do commercials with them on Fox Sports. He goes, great, golf stuff. I go, you know, they have more than golf stuff. And he's like, for real. I got to check it out. So a lot of people, I could.
Covino
Sleep in these jeans. That's how comfortable they are. I'm wearing them right now.
Rich
Well, don't do that.
Covino
No, they're so comfortable, man.
Rich
Hey. Travismathieu.com 20% off your first order when you sign up for the email. Again, just sign up for the email. 20% off. Go do it.
Covino
Hey, Covino and Rich, just the two of us. Hope you had a Dalton Var show catch sort of night. Did you see that catch on the Blue Jays yesterday?
Danny G
My God, so sick.
Covino
That was the most insane catch maybe ever. That puts any Jim Edmonds catch to shame.
Rich
But I listen, I'm not taking anything away from the cat.
Danny G
You're about to.
Rich
I think it was purely like he stumbled. He was tracking because he went the.
Danny G
Wrong direction and then looked up and.
Rich
He was like, oh, crap. Like, I don't.
Covino
Yeah, but it was still awesome. Yes. The wherewithal.
Danny G
We've had the topic on our show before, embarrassing falls that we've all had in our life. That's what that would have been. But then he saved it in a way none of us have saved an embarrassing fall.
Rich
I think it was less of a great catch, more of a. If it were the 80s, it would be on George Michael Sports machine or Warner Wolf's plays of the week.
Covino
It's something that happens at your goofy softball game or during a wiffle ball game when you're a kid. But this happened on the biggest stage in major league baseball. You rarely see something like that. That was awesome.
Rich
Definitely worth the highlight.
Covino
It's a freak moment, basically. But a great catch yesterday. Hope you had a great night. We're trying to have a good day today. We have a lot to get to. We're giving away prizes. We got midweek major, but we're also getting your phone calls. 87799 on Fox. Covino and Rich live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
Rich
Oh, Shohei just missed the bomb.
Covino
Shohei is the bomb, by the way.
Rich
Misplayed by the center field. There should have been eight out.
Covino
CNR Brought to you by Brought to you by Shohei and Travis Matthew apparel designed for confidence and comfort no matter where the day takes you. Visit travismathieu.com receive 20 off your first order when you sign up for email. That's travismathu.com 20% off your first order when you sign up for email. Rocking my Travis Matthew pantalones right now.
Rich
Is that an error?
Covino
No, that's not an error. Kidding me?
Rich
Then it's a come on. The center fielder of the Marlins. You'll see this highlight later.
Covino
He made zero contact with the ball and he bangs into the wall. How's that an error?
Rich
My. My wife said this to me. Danny, you might have noticed this. She goes, does Ohtani come to the plate to Sailor Moon song? I'm like, what even is that? But apparently Sailor Moon is like some anime girl stuff. My wife's. And apparently Shohei Ohtani's wife chose his walk up music. So if you thought you heard that, yes, Sailor Moon is I guess an old cartoon or anime.
Iowa Sam
Chris, Perfect could tell you all about Sailor Moon.
Rich
I'd rather not talk to him.
Covino
Yeah. You know what I got out of that? I got never let your wife choose your walk up music. That's what I got.
Rich
Joking.
Danny G
He's going to be here Friday on our show so you can ask him.
Covino
We got what's worse going on before we get into midweek. Major and Big Mike's Wednesday words of wisdom. Rich Belichick theory. Big Mike. What's worse? Kids embarrassing their parent. Jack Solbrick embarrassed himself. He embarrassed the Falcons. He embarrassed Shador Sanders. Just straight up mean when he pranked him. But he embarrassed his dad, Jeff Ulbricht. And that's why the fines were made. $350,000 in fines. And of course parents embarrassing their kid, that's also really bad. And we saw it last night. I'm thinking Tyrese Halliburton's dad crossed the line.
Rich
Man, I'm thinking so hard. You're making my brain work too much. Cuz I'm. Every time I think I think I'm convinced. I change my mind. Cuz I'm like, dude, I've seen parents embarrass their kids. I saw a dad, I told, maybe I told the story where a dad stood up at like the kids little soccer dinner and he's like, had a drink in his hand, he was all buzzing. He's like, yeah, sorry if I'm really loud on the soccer field. It's just I want my daughter to love me because my dad never loved me. And I'm like, oh God, that poor kid. So you could say, oh, it's worse when the dad embarrasses or mom embarrasses the kid. But then again you're right if you are, if your kid embarrasses you, it's like you've done a bad job raising them.
Iowa Sam
No, but kids brains are still developing like it's baked in. It's built in that your child's gonna make mistakes. Jax is 21 and young men make stupid mistakes all the time.
Covino
Covino and Rich, we've been doing this show for a long time and we gotta stay consistent with our theories. And we have a theory to justify our bad behavior. Cause let's just say in our 20s we weren't always the greatest of guys, right? But you know what we say to alleviate ourselves from the bad reputation? To justify it. Ah, we were in our twenties. Doesn't count, right?
Rich
So our ex girlfriends didn't believe Camino's theory though. That was the looking back.
Covino
I was in my twenties. Cuz you know what? You're supposed to make mistakes. You're supposed to figure it out. You could attribute it to they were young and stupid or you're just a kid. Jax Ulbricht made A big mistake. It was mean. It was cruel, what he did. Pranking Shador. But he's a dumb kid, and he put his dad in a bad situation. But he's a dumb frat boy. 20 year old, 21 year old, spoiled idiot, okay? And I hope he learned from that. As a parent, your job is to support your kid and stay out of their way. Don't ever get in the way of their success. You're supposed to lift them and again, be there for them, not be in their way in any way, shape or form. So for a parent to embarrass their kid, even though I'm sure Tyrese Halliburton's dad feels bad about it, is way worse. I think it's way worse.
Rich
So do you mean the week of the Super Bowl, Mahomes, Sr. Getting in a scuffle on Bourbon street with John Rocker?
Covino
Yes, because you're an adult and you made a conscious adult choice. I don't care if emotions are high, but he's still an adult.
Danny G
But Kov, his dad is his own man. I think that's where the difference is here. You. You talked about how you.
Covino
It's no reflection. I get it. It's no reflection on Tyrese. Embarrassing.
Danny G
But you're a little spoiled because your daughter, she's a straight A student.
Covino
She is.
Danny G
How many times have you been called by the principal or the dean? You haven't. I have. Because my teenager, unfortunately not a straight A student and gets into trouble on campus. And that is a straight up reflection on me and her mother. So I'm just telling you it's different when you're in those shoes.
Covino
Well, that's. That's important to me.
Rich
All right, so, Danny, so if you get a call from the principal, hey, your daughter was with kids, you know, vaping in the parking lot. That's, to you, worse than. What if your dad writes some dumb crap on social media?
Danny G
Yeah, well, a lot of people in my life know that my dad has fallen short for most of my life. My kid, though, lives in my house and is around me every day. That's a reflection of me and my wife. So that, I think, is more embarrassing when your kid falls short because they point right at you.
Rich
Covino, a few months ago, every time you think you made up your mind, you're like, oh, yes, it's a good debate.
Danny G
Check this out. A few months back, we get a call from the dean's office, and our teenage daughter was in the middle school bathroom. Her friend got caught buying a vape pen. From another student, and it makes you.
Covino
Look like a terrible parent.
Danny G
Yeah. And now the dean's. The dean's argument was that our daughter should have went and told an adult or stopped the sale. And we're like, what is she, a narcissist? She's not a campus supervisor.
Covino
Right, right.
Danny G
But she was in trouble for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now she still got in trouble. She got suspended for one day. But we had to sit in that dean's office and try to explain ourselves. And he asked about certain things going on with her and her grades and everything else, and that was a lot harder to swallow, Covino, than if my dad did something.
Rich
You're right, because now you're probably sitting there, and the principal's probably like, how's things at home? And you're like.
Danny G
Exactly like.
Rich
Oh, God, I would hate that.
Covino
Okay, so, hey, we. We gave our sides. We made a case. We've seen both examples in the past week.
Rich
Halliburton or Ulbricht.
Covino
Yeah. What's worse?
Rich
What's worse? Let's take a few. We'll go to Nick in Utah. Fun conversation. I like this one because I keep changing my mind. What's up, Nick?
Nick
Um, yeah, I got to keep it clean. I'm picking up my granddaughter from kindergarten.
Covino
Don't embarrass.
Nick
Two examples. One when I. My dad embarrassed me, and one when I embarrassed my dad.
Rich
Okay.
Nick
Okay. So I was. I played a lot of baseball, and I was. My dad taught us to scatter the ball. He said, hits win games, not home runs.
Iowa Sam
Yeah.
Nick
So in the game, I hit a home run. Oh. I'm jumping up and down baseline. He's coaching first base smacks me on the back of the head. Oh, gee. I get in the dugout, the inning's over. What you do that for, dad? He said we don't boast. He said, what if we lose?
Rich
Your phone stinks, dude. What happened?
Covino
He's saying he was showboating.
Rich
No, his phone.
Covino
And his dad told him not to showboat, so I get it. So what's the other one? Oh, man. He yelled at him and he left.
Rich
Did you pick.
Iowa Sam
It sounded like an answering machine. He should call back.
Covino
Rich embarrassed him and his phone service on national radio.
Danny G
Yeah, his phone was.
Covino
Why don't you smack him in the head, Rich?
Rich
Well, I'd be embarrassed to have our radio show go on with such poor audio.
Iowa Sam
All right, well, my Samsung just embarrassed me. Samsung?
Rich
Andy in Mississippi. Oh, geez.
Danny G
Play the rim shot on your cell phone.
Covino
No.
Rich
What what's up, Andy?
Nick
How are you doing?
Rich
What's up?
Nick
I just want to say I want a Covino and Rich Swiggy and I love it.
Rich
Oh, yeah, Yeah, I love that.
Nick
And I got a quick shout out, if I may.
Rich
Yeah.
Nick
I'm the PA announcer for baseball team here in Mississippi, Hartfield Academy Hawks. And we're got a bot to the second round of the playoffs.
Rich
Oh, that's awesome.
Covino
That's really cool, man. I appreciate that.
Rich
Give us a little. Now batting. What do you have?
Nick
Oh, yeah. And let me give you my home run call.
Rich
Yeah. Let's hear.
Nick
All right, so now batting, number 25, Jim Calhoun. My home run call is.
Covino
Hell yeah.
Nick
That's not coming back.
Rich
Oh, man. What would your home run call be, Kavito?
Covino
That one's out of here. Hey, you know what? That makes me think of this joke that I made up.
Rich
Yeah.
Covino
Who's Michael K's favorite recording artist? Who is Michael K's favorite recording artist? Can I.
Rich
Can I?
Covino
Don't answer. Don't do it.
Rich
See ya.
Covino
See ya. Come on, come on.
Danny G
Look at the clock. It's time for DB's update.
Rich
Hey, get it, Dan.
Covino
See you, Dan.
DB
Oh, I got it.
Covino
Get it.
DB
CIA. Yes. Chandelier. Yes. She loves Survivor.
Covino
Still a Camino guy, Dan?
DB
I don't know. I'm not too sure. This whole show has been all over the place. Rich is embarrassing callers. I'm not a fan of that.
Covino
Oh, no.
DB
Kavino doesn't like good jokes. Apparently. This is. This is something. We do have some baseball going on right now. The Dodgers lead the Marlins 113 in the 8th inning while the Padres have a 4 nothing lead on the Giants in the 6th. Angels and Mariners tied up at 3. How would you call a grand slam? Cavino?
Rich
That's a grand salami.
DB
Okay, all right. This is how they do it on the Tigers radio network now.
Rich
Baez winning in a one time, two on the way. Swinging a high fly ball left field. This one's deep. Going back to Senzo at the fence. Looking up and it's gone. A home run grand slam gives The Tigers a 71 lead in the third.
DB
Off the bat of Javi Baez in a 74 Tigers win in Houston against the Astros. Cardinals blank the red six nothing. Rocky snap an eight game slide, beating the Braves today two to one. You guys talked about it. But the NFL fine Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbricht $100,000 and the team was two hundred and fifty grand after Ulbricht's son pranked Shador Sanders during the NFL draft. This was Ulbricht earlier today.
Danny G
I'd like to publicly apologize to Shadur and the Sanders family for what occurred. My actions of not protecting confidential data were inexcusable. My son's actions were absolutely inexcusable. And for that, we are both deeply sorry.
DB
Warriors and Rockets, 7:30 Eastern in game five. Timberwolves and Lakers, 10:00 Eastern. And there, game five. Back to you guys.
Covino
Thank you, D.B. you know, there's a lot of people on social media and talking heads on TV saying that Jeff should be fired for not keeping that confidential. I don't agree with that. I'm just saying there's a lot of people saying that. But the embarrassment that the family has to deal with and the fines of $350,000, I think that's good enough.
Rich
I think, I think I mentioned it yesterday. Remember the Jerky Boys when we were kids?
Covino
Of course.
Rich
And they chisel chest the Jerky Boys. The Egyptian magician, the most popular prankster has ever said that was even too far. So when the Jerky Boys weigh in, I mean, my goodness, it was mean. Well, hey, we got more coming up. We have Mike's words of wisdom. We have spots midweek major all coming up right here on Fox Sports Radio.

You gotta keep em separated. A lot of people don't know but that's where I got my start in radio. I was the guy that Said that you got it separated. Yeah. You don't hear it. You gotta keep them separated. I'm Kavino. That is Rich. Thanks for coming out and playing with us live from the Fox Sports Radio studio. And now it's time for a tire rack play of the day. Right before all the drama on the court after the game, as we've been discussing, you know, the whole dad drama. The Pacers, Tyrese Halliburton.
Rich
Wait, is the play the game the dad.
Covino
No, no, no, no. Tyrese Halliburton said overrate this. Take a look.
Rich
Halliburton hits the timeline with seven, outside the arc with five, driving in the.
Covino
Lane at the goal.
Rich
He lays it in with 1 and 3. 10 seconds to go. Milwaukee has no timeouts. They have to go the length. Paul is going to be played in by atetokounbo. He gets it to tread. And this one is over. Unbelievable. Indiana eliminating the Bucks four games to one. That was. That was easy. That's courtesy of the Pacers radio network. And that's our tire rack play. Oh, the day. For over 40 years, Tire Rack's been helping customers find the right tires for how, what and where they drive ship.
Covino
Fast and free, backed by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation, tire rack.com. the way tire buying should be.
Rich
So I got a Belichick thought, a Belichickian thought, and then we will get to Mike's words of wisdom. Spots midweek major. We got a lot to get there.
Covino
You made a decision? I'm standing my ground. I think that Danny G made a really valid point about how kids can embarrass a parent and how deflating that is like, dude, I don't talk about these things all the time, but my daughter, I went out to a family dinner recently. She made such a scene. She stormed out, ruined the whole time. Ooh.
Iowa Sam
You know, that was the controversy.
Covino
I mean, we have a half hour to spend on this, right? She's a teenage girl.
Rich
Die. They don't gotta die.
Covino
Caused a scene, dude. I had family visiting. She left, stormed out. I had to go chasing her.
Rich
He didn't even tell me.
Covino
Ruin the whole vibe back here.
Rich
Yeah, ruin the whole vibe.
Spot
You're grounded.
Covino
Swear to God. You know what? But I still attribute that to she's a kid. There's no excuse for what Halliburton's dad did yesterday.
Rich
Listen, I'm the coach. When you're an adult.
Covino
Come on, man, you got to be better than that.
Rich
Yeah, I made up my mind, too. I'm the coach of my kids team and recently my son. I was saying yesterday he finally got out of it for two weeks. He was scared of the ball. So I'm the coach and my son's every pitch like stepping out the box like, oh, oh, scaredy cat.
Covino
Could always say he's a kid. Learn from it. You can't say he's a parent. You guys say he's an adult. Give him a break. No, man, you can't be doing that.
Rich
I got to stick to it. I'm with you. Because Danny G could easily persuade me by what he recently said about great examples how like hey listen, you're not your dad or mom's keeper. So if your dad says horrible.
Covino
But what's worse is the question you.
Danny G
Guys have said in the past, behind any jerk face kid is a jerk face parent.
Rich
True man.
Covino
All right, fine. We'll let the public decide. You heard our side. You decide. At Covino and Rich at Fox Sports.
Rich
Radio Spot, if you could on our Instagram story put up a little poll. What's worse, Parents embarrassing kids or kids embarrassing parents? Now my Belichick thought, I want to put this to rest. Only because so many people are still talking about Belichick and Jordan.
Danny G
CBS's fault.
Rich
CBS. We're not going to talk about that. Jordan, I think I've already said that. My thought is this, let's get off of Bill Belichick's huevos.
Covino
You say huevos.
Rich
I think let's leave this guy alone. Because here's my thought. If you had a man to man conversation with Bill Belichick, what if he simply said to you, now this is just my thought. I have no proof of any of this. But what if Bill Belichick said, hey guys, listen, I know how she comes across. This whole thing's a pain in the ass.
Covino
I know how she comes across.
Rich
But she makes me feel young.
Covino
Makes me feel young.
Rich
I'm having sex with a 20 something year old.
Covino
Sex is great and I'm happy.
Rich
Back off. So for that me just thinking that could be it. Let's leave the guy alone. Leave Bill alone. What did they say in the 2000s? Leave Britney alone. I ask you, leave Bill Belichick alone. He's in his 70s.
Covino
It looks like elderly abuse at this point.
Danny G
Yeah, Rob Parker had him fired on the evening show Rich.
Iowa Sam
What did they say in the early 2000s?
Covino
This looks like doo doo. Rob was mad about it.
Danny G
Unc, fire him.
Covino
Now it's embarrassing. Rob was like, hey, he coaches college kids, you gotta keep it. What are you gonna keep your daughter away from Bill Belichick? Fire him.
Rich
Yeah, leave Britney alone.
Covino
Leave Britney alone.
Rich
Well, I say leave Billy alone. Leave Billy alone.
Covino
Oh, Billy.
Rich
Cause he's a. He's in his 70s and he's. It might be simple as. Hey, listen. She makes me feel young. She makes me feel cool. I'm sexually active and I'm old. I'm living the life. I don't care if she's a pain in the ass. Beat it, everybody. I'm coaching football with a 20 something year old. Deal with it, team Billy boy, let's go.
Covino
Leave Billy alone.

Description: The Herd with Colin Cowherd is a thought-provoking, opinionated, and topic-driven journey through the top sports stories of the day.
In this engaging episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, hosts Covino and Rich delve into a compelling debate: "What's Worse, Kids Embarrassing Their Parents or Parents Embarrassing Their Kids?" Released on May 1, 2025, the episode navigates through various real-life sports anecdotes, personal experiences, and listener interactions to explore the nuances of this age-old question.
Covino opens the discussion by framing the debate, highlighting recent high-profile incidents in the sports world:
"What's worse? The kid embarrassing the parent or the parent embarrassing the kid." (03:26)
Rich adds complexity to the conversation, suggesting that both sides have valid points:
"There's so many layers." (07:40)
The hosts agree that while it might seem straightforward to label one as worse, real-life scenarios often blur the lines, making the debate more intricate than it appears.
Jeff Ulbricht and His Son’s Prank
Jeff Ulbricht, the Falcons' defensive coordinator, was fined a total of $350,000 after his 21-year-old son, Jack Zolbrick, pranked Shador Sanders during the NFL draft. This incident not only tarnished Ulbricht's reputation but also brought significant financial repercussions for the team.
"Jack Zolbrick pranked Shador Sanders. Man, that's embarrassing to his dad, to the organization, to everybody." (04:43)
Connor Ben vs. Chris Eubank Jr.
In a family legacy fight, Connor Ben threw an egg in the face of his opponent, Chris Eubank Jr., during a press conference. This act was seen as a disgraceful and humiliating gesture, further straining their family legacy.
"Chris Eubank Jr. ended up winning. Side note, making his dad proud." (16:24)
Tyrese Halliburton’s Dad Taunting Giannis Antetokounmpo
Tyrese Halliburton found himself in an awkward situation when his father taunted Giannis Antetokounmpo on the court, leading to public embarrassment and professional scrutiny.
"He was holding up a towel at Tyrese's face, taunting Giannis, but in defeat." (10:25)
Patrick Mahomes’ Dad and John Rocker
Patrick Mahomes faces continuous embarrassment as his father frequently gets into conflicts with figures like John Rocker, affecting Mahomes' public image.
"Patrick Mahomes needs his dad fighting John Rocker? Hell, no." (10:46)
Elon Musk’s Parental Issues
The podcast touches on Elon Musk, questioning whether his children are embarrassed by him or vice versa, highlighting the complexities of high-profile parent-child relationships.
"Are his kids embarrassed to him or is he embarrassed of his kids?" (18:25)
The discussion extends beyond sports, referencing various celebrities to illustrate the pervasive nature of parental and filial embarrassment:
Meghan Markle’s Dad
Meghan's father faced public scrutiny and embarrassment as Meghan integrated into the Royal Family, often being portrayed in negative light by tabloids.
"Meghan Markle's dad, remember when she got all involved with the Royal family? He was like, maybe trying to sell the story." (14:19)
Justin Bieber’s Father
Bieber’s father’s alleged anti-gay comments added another layer of public embarrassment for the pop star.
"Justin Bieber... every so often his dad will come out and say, allegedly, some like, anti gay stuff." (14:34)
Elle King and Rob Schneider
Elle King expressed embarrassment over her father’s Republican views and his strained relationship with her.
"Elle King... her dad is sweet Robbie Schneider, and she's like, my dad's a Republican and I don't talk to him." (18:25)
The hosts invite listeners to share their personal experiences, adding depth to the debate:
Nick from Utah shares two contrasting stories:
"I was in the dugout... what you do that for, dad? He said we don't boast." (30:12)
Andy from Mississippi discusses his daughter's minor school troubles and how it reflects on him as a parent.
"Our teenage daughter was in the middle school bathroom... our daughter got suspended for one day." (28:30)
These interactions highlight that whether it's parental actions or children's missteps, the repercussions often reflect back on the familial relationships, sometimes exacerbating feelings of embarrassment.
Interspersed within the heavy debate, Covino and Rich engage in light-hearted promotions for brands like Travis Matthew and DraftKings, sharing personal endorsements and humorous anecdotes related to their daily lives.
For instance, Covino humorously laments:
"I embarrassed my kid this morning because I was playing yacht rock when I dropped her off at high school." (08:09)
Rich adds:
"Sometimes I try to embarrass my kids, to test my limits of where I'm at." (08:44)
As the episode wraps up, both hosts weigh in on the debate with their concluding thoughts:
Covino opines that a parent embarrassing their child is worse, especially when the parent is an adult making conscious choices that reflect poorly on the child.
"For a parent to embarrass their kid... is way worse." (26:41)
Rich concurs, emphasizing the long-term impact on the child’s perception and self-esteem.
"If your kid embarrasses you, it's like you've done a bad job raising them." (26:19)
They conclude by inviting listeners to participate in an Instagram poll to further engage the community in this ongoing debate:
"What's worse, Parents embarrassing kids or kids embarrassing parents?" (39:45)
Covino on Parental Responsibility:
"As a parent, your job is to support your kid and stay out of their way." (26:41)
Rich on Personal Experience:
"I've had to go chasing my daughter when she storms out." (38:26)
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Perspective:
"I believe, like, being humble in victory, that's the way I am now." (12:04)
The episode effectively balances serious discussion with humor and personal anecdotes, providing listeners with a multifaceted view of the "Kids vs. Parents Embarrassment" debate. By leveraging recent sports incidents and celebrity examples, Covino and Rich illustrate the widespread nature of this issue, making it relatable to a broad audience.
Listeners are left to ponder their own experiences and judgments, encouraged to engage through social media polls and calls, fostering a community-driven exploration of what truly constitutes greater embarrassment in familial relationships.
