Welcome back. It is a Friday and it's hour two. I'm telling you, this new college football world's got me all geeked up. Miami, Hurricanes, Braby the Swag is back. Trinidad, Chambliss, Oregon in their amazing uniforms. And then there's Indiana. It's crazy. Had so much fun yesterday. I don't know what my New Year's resolutions to be. I don't think eating four giant chicken enchiladas was on my bingo card, but that's what I did yesterday. I just ate all day and am gloriously happy for it. So last week we took all dogs. I don't do that a lot, at least this year and we were 2 and 3. Let's end our blazing 5. We've had a good year. 58.3%. Let's end it on a strong note. Here we go. That's a hot one. Let's blaze it up.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Fire it up.
Jason McIntyre
It's Collins blazing five. Seahawks at 49ers. Winner gets the number one seed. I like Seattle minus one and a half. They've won 10 of their last 11 games. They're only lost two points on the road against the Rams. They've been a great road team. Sam Darnold 5 and 1 against his former teams. I like the more athletic, younger, deeper roster. JSN back to back hundred yard games against the Niners secondary. We know Seattle on the road is really good. Almost better than they are at home. San Francisco is one in three against the Rams, Texans and Jags this season. Second game on short rest defense. It's just not very good. I mean you saw Caleb Williams tear it apart. I think Seattle controls a lot of the time of possession and wins close. I'll swallow the point and a half. Seahawks win on the road as they often do. 27:23 Browns and Bengals I've been taking the Bengals recently lot and I like them here. They're coming off back to back 20 plus point, 20 point dominating wins. They've scored 30 plus points and for their last five games. Burrows always been good in December and January go back to when he started and the offense is not turning the ball over back to back games. Burrow and the Bengals give them credit. They don't have anything to play for but they're playing like they do and the Browns offense is turnover prone. Shador Sanders seven picks over his last three games. Judkins is out in Joko and Fannin. The tight ends who are good are all banged up. Shador Sanders against Burrow feels like a major major disadvantage. I like the Bengals to win and cover 30 to 21. Lions and Bears I'll take the Bears minus two and a half at home. Caleb Williams even going back to last year has always been good at Soldier Field. They've won six straight home games. Number three rushing offense and the Lions cannot stop the they have allowed 150 plus rushing yards in three straight games. This matchup favors Chicago again. Caleb at home even last year is a little bit more comfortable. Detroit what are they playing for? 23rd ranked defense. I like Chicago's ability to run the football consistently, setting up some big plays down the field for the Bears. Take the Bears to win in cover. 28:24 Cardinals and Rams Sean McVeigh is ticked off. Rams to win in cover. It's a get right spot for LA. Lost to Atlanta and Sean McVeigh said after yeah the starters will play. They've outgained opponents in six straight games. They're 12 and 1 this year when they have one or fewer giveaways. And Arizona's defense is atrocious. Cardinals have lost eight straight. Five losses have been blowout losses since Week 10. Arizona's got the worst score defense. So again when Stafford's under pressure, he's one quarterback. When Stafford is comfortable, he rolls. I think Sean McVay would pour it on if he could. 31:20 they win and cover the spread. Ravens at Steelers here's my one underdog. I think it's close. I'm going to take Pittsburgh to cover the spread. 10 of the last 11 meetings with these two teams had been one score games. Pittsburgh 9 and 2 in the last 11 they're plus 11 and turnover margin. Pittsburgh does not turn the ball over. Baltimore I think is better but they do nine giveaways over their last five games have the Ravens and that's like second worst in the league. So Baltimore's got the talent. Baltimore, I think is better. Derrick Henry has never been great against Pittsburgh. Roquan Smith, Kyle Van Noy, Ronnie Stanley kind of banged up. I think it's your classic Steelers Ravens game. I wouldn't be shocked if the Steelers don't have a defensive touchdown. Baltimore's got the better offense. I think they win late. I'm taking the hook. Baltimore 21 to 20, but I'm taking the points. J Mac observation thoughts I don't take a lot of favorites last week. I have most of the year.
Katie Couric
The.
Jason McIntyre
Rams generally, I would not take them. But McVay after the Falcons loss, was in no mood to let his starters rest. I think they poured on.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, I like your Rams case. I'm going to be backing them. Based on hearing that, I am curious. This Lions Bears game, very interesting revenge spot for the Bears. Remember, they got smoked by 30 in Detroit earlier this year. But Dan Campbell, his guys don't pack it in and mail it in week 18. 1, 2, 3, Cancun. He doesn't operate like that. I don't know what to make of that game, so I'm staying off it. Otherwise, you know, other than San Fran, I like everything.
Jason McIntyre
I know that. All right, Here we go. RG 3. Robert Griffin III is joining us live. I love that he can do NFL and college. So I gotta start with this because we both love college football. It's great to see you again. Happy holidays. Happy New Year to your beautiful family. I gotta tell you is I love Miami and I'm gonna throw this at you. So Ohio State's last two games, Ryan Day takes over the play calling. They score 10 and 14, and I think Ryan's a great coach, but I think it's very difficult to suddenly pivot against the two best defenses you play. I don't know, the run game, the O line. I think some of it is Robert and we. And I like Ryan, but I think some of it is that's a weird transition when you face two great defenses.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Yeah, Colin, you're 100% right. It's a very weird transition, especially when you haven't been doing it the entire season. So, you know, you see some of these teams, you know, Ole Miss, you know What, Charlie Weiss Jr. You know, allowing him to continue to coach through the playoff. Oregon, Will Stein, if you're really trying to win the big one, you don't want to make that drastic of a switch at the last second, when your head coach has been mostly focused on management, the team managing, all these agents with nil and the transfer portal about open. And now all of a sudden, hey, we want you to call plays that you haven't, you haven't done this all season and in a number of seasons. That's why I think, you know, Brian Hartline, you know, being the new coach in South Florida, it would have been great if he could have continued on for Ohio State to, to really have a real shot at making this happen. They didn't. And Miami took advantage of it.
Jason McIntyre
What do you make Fernando Mendoza? I know it's college, but what do you make as a pro prospect? He's a little corny after games, but I, I gotta tell you, size matters. He's big. His receiving core is. Becker Cash is everything. I love Mendoza. You know, I'm, I'm old school. I like my quarterbacks, you know, to be more formal and traditional and kind of, you know, thank you and please. And I know. What do you make of him?
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
No, I love Fernando Mendoza because Fernando Mendoza knows who he is. And I've seen some of the memes of like he sounds like chat GPT when you ask him a question after a game. It's funny. It's, it really is funny. But the thing I love about him is he's going to process, he's going to do it well and he's going to do what his team needs him to do. Goes in this game, goes 14 to 16, doesn't throw the football very much. Why? Because Kaylin Black and Roman Hemby went off in the offensive line, control the line of scrimmage and they literally ran over Alabama. So I love Fernando. I think he's a first round pick, I think he's a top 10 pick. I think coaches are going to love him. He's a big kid. Like you said, size does matter, but he can make every throw on the field and he's not afraid of the big moments. So when you have a rookie quarterback coming in, those coaches are like, all right, is he going to do what I asked him to do? Can he make plays that maybe aren't there with his arm talent and with his ability to think and he can do all those things and if he gets in a great situation with weapons around him, that's where I think he can truly, truly excel. Is he a guy that's going to save a franchise because he's, you know, super dynamic, off schedule play type guy? No, but if you work with him and put the right guys around him, he can win you a Super Bowl. So I really do like Fernando Mendoza, and I think what him and Kirk Signetti have done at Indiana is one of the best turnarounds I've ever seen.
Jason McIntyre
You know, it's interesting, Robert, with the transfer portal.
Katie Couric
It's. It is.
Jason McIntyre
It takes a while to bring in 11 new guys, nine starters. Like, I watched Miami lose to Louisville. I didn't watch the whole game, but I watch it. And the moment to me when I bought into Miami was when they beat Pitt. And I'm like, warm weather team goes to Pitt. And I'm like, oh, my God, 38, 7. I was like. And then I went that day and I started looking at common opponents with Notre Dame, and I'm like, no, they're different. They're. They're different. I think Miami matches up with Indiana. I mean, what do you make about that? Because I think Indiana and Miami just feel like that is. It's destined to me. I've watched Indiana go to Otson and really roll Oregon. What do you make of this Miami story this year? How they. They lost a Louisville and SMU and were just kind of found themselves?
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Yeah, I think your point of. About Miami, it really became something for me when they decided we're not going to be the Carson Beck led Miami Hurricanes, right? They paid him a bunch of money, reports of $4 million contract, and, you know, early in the year was like, all right, Carson, go throw us to a national championship. And I think Mario Cristobal and their staff realized like, okay, that's not going to be our recipe for success. Not that Carson Beck can't do it, but the way our team is built and how we're built at the skill positions and in the trenches is really what's going to lead this team to success. And I think that's really. Any of us, you get a brand new toy, you want to play with a brand new toy, and you want to make that toy the feature. But sometimes you got to go back to the trenches, which is where football has always won. And that's where Bane and Mazidor and these guys up front make me believe that college football is more like the NFL than it's ever been. Colin, you got to be able to win up front just like every level, right? But you got to have closers on the outside, and the teams that have closers on the outside are the ones that we're seeing playing in the college football semifinals or they just have elite quarterback play. So I think Miami made the Decision right in the middle of the year to be like, you know what? Yes, we paid our quarterback a lot of money, but this is how we're going to win. And we just need him to make five throws a game to win us a game and not turn the football over. And I think Carson Beck has, has accepted that challenge and done a great job for them down the stretch. I'm happy for my Miami 3rd place ACC team in the college football semifinals. You know, you know how I feel about conference bias. So I think they're, they're.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah, there, there are three teams in here who could be great. I don't think Ole Miss is one of them. I don't think they're good enough defensively. I just, I just love Trinidad Chambliss. I just love him. I get little, little Dak vibes. I don't think they're good enough defensively. Is that fair that Ole Miss. It just. I don't think they can make big stops in big spots in this, in this going forward. Or do you see it differently?
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
I think it's fair because Georgia put 34 on them and, and Georgia hasn't been this juggernaut of an offense all year long, even though I respect the guys that they have, especially the, the moxie of Gunner Stockton. But when you look at Trinidad Chambliss, you see these types of plays, but he's also making the on schedule throws. You know, I love the heat check touchdown that he threw after the interception that really kind of, you know, blew the game out for them and had them more of in a situation where they felt like they could win. This guy's story is Incredible, you know, D2 national champion at Ferris State. Zero star recruit coming out of high school. And then he's not even the starter coming into this season. Starter goes down, he steps in, never looks back. So I just think this whole, you know, we love stories. Colin in college football, his story is phenomenal. The fact that Lane Kiffin isn't there anymore and Ole Miss is in the college football semifinal with the coaching staff that old, that Lane Kevin put together is just fascinating. If they win the national championship, there's going to be a movie made about this right now. Me and you, we should direct that movie. This is, it's phenomenal, man.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah. I said earlier he's from Big Rapids, Michigan and it can't be that big because I've never heard of it and my wife's from Michigan, so I love the kids story. It's amazing. Okay. So, you know, I Said most of me, at least me when I was 20 years old. You know, you got, but your car's breaking down, you don't love your boss. It's hard to be 20 and a lot of quarterbacking in this league. At 20, you usually don't get Andy Reid or Sean Payton. You get into an organization where the GM loved you and the coach didn't. There's politics, there's an impulsive. You know this. So Sam Darnold goes to New York. He's 20, he's a good looking kid. He's in New York, he's a quarterback for an NFL team. He gets sick. You know, half the people in the building aren't sure about him. And I'm like, this is just a 20 year old kid. Yeah, I find, I think he's really special. But I understand all the reckless talk as somebody who's played the position. I look at him and I think nobody can win in New York. I looked at him at Carolina, winning record. They loved him in San Francisco, they love him in Minnesota, they love him in Seattle. Nobody. Or do you see him as a. There's limitations. He is reckless. How do you view Darnold?
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Wow. I view Sam Darnold as a classic case of an organization failing a young quarterback. I've always felt this way, Colin, that, you know, because of my own experience and what I've seen in NFL history. If you don't believe in a quarterback wholly, you know, head coach, gm, owner, don't draft. Look at, look at New Orleans, right? The owner loves Tyler Shucking, the GM loves Tyler Shuck, and the head coach, Kellen Moore loves Tyler Shuck. So what do they do? They allow him to make mistakes. Yeah. And they allow him to play confidently to where he can play himself out of a rut. And now Tyler Shuck is looking like one of the best rookie quarterbacks out there, especially win loss wise. I know wins on a quarterback stat. But yeah, when lost, he's playing at a really, really high level. When you watch the tape, I called his game against the Carolina Panthers where they won and he came back, you know, late in the game to lead them to victory. He's confident. Sam Darnold has one of the most special arms I've ever seen and I've known him since high school. You know, I went to an all star game with him and had helped coach them and he was talented way back then. So when you look at what he's been through in his career, every quarterback now this myth that man, he can do it by himself is just not true unless you're just a physical specimen like Cam Newton was in 2015 when he won MVP and led his team to the Super Bowl. But even then he still had Luke Keakley on defense and he had Greg Olson on offense. Right? Steve Smith, wide receiver. So like quarterbacks today, Colin have to have guys around them. Sam Darnold, having Jackson, Smith and Jigba this season, you know, last year, having Justin Jefferson at wide receiver, that makes dividends for a qb to the point where you hear this game manager versus game changer conversation. Throw that you know, ish out the window. It. That doesn't make any sense anymore. Every quarterback has to have guys around them. Jalen Hurts has two number one wide receivers and a number one tight end. Why is Patrick Mahomes and the Chief struggled so much recently? Well, they don't have a true game breaking number one tight end anymore because Travis Kelsey is older and they don't have Tyreek Hill. It's just tough sledding for quarterbacks in this league with how good the defensive rush is and how good the DBs are now to not have number one type receivers and number one type weapons that were tight end and running back. So I think Sam Darnold has that now and that's why you're seeing me excel. And I think that the, the Seahawks aren't getting the credit they deserve and it's because of Sam Donald. No one believes that he can get it done in the playoffs. And I, I don't, I wouldn't say that's not fair because life isn't fair. We know that. Otherwise we probably will both be doing some, some other things that we, we wanted to do or whatever, even though we're enjoying what we're doing. I think Sam Donald at the end of the day has to prove in the playoffs by winning and going on a run that his talent is exactly what we see. And I believe in the young man. So I don't think he's limited. I think he's just the right amount of reckless with the right guys around him.
Jason McIntyre
So the, the enigma of the season has been Baltimore and Lamar Jackson and, and I said this the other day and people are like, whoa, whoa, whoa. I said, listen, in my life there's always six quarterbacks that if you're the gm, you don't even take a call. It doesn't matter if somebody offers you three number ones, you don't take a call on Mahomes. Josh Allen, I wouldn't take one on Caleb Or Drake May. I'm just not there. Other I'm not. I wouldn't take one on C.J. stroud or Herbert. That's my six. And I'm just not taking a call. Then there are guys, Joe Burrow and Lamar. I'm not going to initiate the call, but maybe injuries, expense. I'll take a call. Probably won't move them, but I'll take a phone call on Jalen Hurts or Joe Burrow because Burrow is one more injury away from. We get a draft, a quarterback. So this whole year for lamar is. He's 29. He's missed 17 starts. His cap hit his monstrous. And all of a sudden this year, RG3, RG3. Robert Griffin, he wasn't as fast. What am I to do with Lamar? I know he's great, but is it possible at 29 that he is slightly moved out of his prime? You watched him. It doesn't feel the same. What is it with Art? What is it with Lamar this year?
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Oh, man. What? Okay, first of all, I think when you look at Joe Burrow, Joe Burrow has actually come out and said, like, I don't know if I love the game anymore. And I think that that's a different conversation. Lamar has never come out and said anything like that. So I think Baltimore Ravens fans would burn the city to the ground if the Ravens traded Lamar Jackson. And I mean that wholeheartedly. And having been there and knowing how he is, I did read the article that came out that was bashing him. You know, I thought it was bush league to make those statements. And Coach Harbaugh, you know, the John Harbaugh that I know, you know, the greatest coach I ever played for in the NFL and I wasn't even a starter for the Ravens, I was the backup. But watching him operate, the way he handled that when it came to the press and he talked and he defended Lamar and he said, our relationship is great. If you want to know what I think, ask me that question. And that to me, it kills it in the locker room. And that's what's the most important thing here. If Lamar Jackson had lost the locker room, this would be a real conversation. But I've got great relationships in that locker room still. Still to this day, they love Lamar. Yeah, they'd love for him to stay healthy and stay on the field. Are they going to be more confident with Lamar out there in this game against the Steelers, which is basically a play in game? Yeah, they're going to be much more confident with him at QB because he's their guy. The city loves him. And I've heard the rumors of Miami maybe coming and trying to snag him, because that's where. And. And who wouldn't want to play at home? First of all, it would take a month, a monstrous offer for the Ravens to get rid of him. GM Eric dacosta has no interest in trading Lamar Jackson. And I think for him, Lamar is motivated in different ways than people realize. And the fact that he has been a little bit injury prone the last couple seasons and the fact that people are saying, oh, he's lost his step and he can't do this and he can't do that, he kind of, in a lot of ways, reminds me of Michael Vick, because when I was growing up, Mike, when somebody said he couldn't throw, he'd go throw for 350 yards, right? When someone said, ah, he lost a step, he'd go run for 150. And that's kind of what I see from Lamar Jackson in the way that he is motivated. He does. He is somewhat motivated to prove people wrong, but also to prove himself right. So I don't think they trade him. I think he goes out and he plays well in this game against the Steelers, and he kind of forces Mike Tomlin to. To either have to take a TV job or for the Steelers to realize that what they have in Mike Tomlin is greater. And maybe they're not appreciating him as well. But I'm definitely rocking with the Ravens in this game, and I think Lamar Jackson is going to prove all his daughters wrong.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah, it's. Listen, these stories come out. I mean, the guy in Baltimore that works for the sun is a longtime beat reporter. And I'm like, what am I to make of that story? And so I think it's fascinating, I think your depth of knowledge in the organization. I have said this before about Lamar, is that I would. And I felt this way about Elway and Denver. There are certain quarterbacks that play for a franchise, but they don't necessarily feel like the city. They're just really good players. They play forever, whatever. I mean, I love Brady, but Brady, he would go vacation over in Europe, he'd hang out in New York. I didn't feel like he felt like Boston. He was just great.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Yeah, he's more Hollywood, you know.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah. There is no quarterback in the league that feels. I bet that's more popular within the city, the area codes of the city, than Lamar Jackson. I think he's the most popular quarterback. If you did a poll, every team in the league. Maybe Mahomes is up there because of his success. So when you were there, do you believe that to be true?
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
No, it's. It's 100% true. And he is the city. Like, let's be real. You go to Baltimore and, you know, when I got drafted to Washington, they call it chocolate city. Okay, well, if Washington D.C. is Chocolate City, then God damn, Baltimore must be dark chocolate city or something. So when you look at the city and how they operate, how. How rugged the city is, how tough the city is, Lamar Jackson embodies all those things. And when he comes in, the number one thing the Ravens did his rookie year, when I was there, I was there with Lamar for three seasons. You know, blessed and honored to be able to mentor him and see him go win MVPs and really take over that team in the city from super bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. They never tried to change Lamar. Yeah. They never tried to change the way he talked. They never tried to change the way he wore his hair. They never tried to change the way that he dressed. They allowed Lamar Jackson to be Lamar Jackson. I, for one, in my career didn't have that same experience, but what I loved was that this is who we drafted. This is who we want you to be. We want you to be Lamar Jackson. That embodies the city, the city, you know, cling to that. And he is like, his jersey sales are crazy. And it's because he has never changed who he is to try to fit into something the Raven said. You know what? We're not going to put a square peg in a round hole. We're going to allow you to go be fully who you are. And that's why he's been so successful. So, yes. Is he playful? Does he lead in a different way? 100%. But that locker room would die for him because they know that he's got their back.
Jason McIntyre
Robert, great stuff on a Friday. It's going to be glorious. College football yesterday, excellent weekend. Seahawks and the Niners, Bucks, Panthers, Ravens, Steelers. Mean a lot. Great seeing you as always. My man. Happy holidays.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Appreciate you, brother. Thank you for having me on. You're the best.
Jason McIntyre
God bless college football, pro football. He knows them both. I. I'm going to name today. You know how J. Mac, Time magazine has their person of the Year. I'm naming my person of the Year in the NFL. Don't go anywhere. I'm very excited.
Colin Cowherd
Person of the Year in the NFL. Can I get a guess or two?
Katie Couric
No.
Jason McIntyre
No guesses.
Colin Cowherd
It's Brock Purdy. Did he make the final nobody from the Jets? We can eliminate them, obviously.
Jason McIntyre
Well.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, that should be fun.

That's why we're wrapping up this season of Next Question with a look back at everything that's happened. Things are coming at us with such a velocity, we thought it was important to take a moment, connect the dots, and explore what it all means. We're summing up the first year of Trump's second term with David Graham on Project 2025 and how many of the goals have been implemented. Richard Haass on foreign policy and the changing world order. Jessica Valenti on reproductive rights and the terrifying consequences of abortion bans. Tina Brown on the year scandals here and across the pond. The president has upended everything from pardons to the press, so we're covering it all. Listen to Next Question. There'S a line in there about your mother. And I said, what? What I would do if I didn't feel like I was being accepted is choose an identity that other people can't have.

I knew something had happened to me.

Liberty.
Colin Cowherd
Liberty. Hey, I'm Kelly. And some of you may know me as Laura Winslow. And I'm Telma, also known as Aunt Rachel. If those names ring a bell, then you probably are familiar with a show that we were both on back in the 90s called Family Matters. Kelly and I have done a lot of things and played a lot of.
Katie Couric
Roles over the years, but both of us are just so proud to have been part of Family Matters.
Colin Cowherd
Did you know that we were one of the longest running sitcoms with a black cast? When we were making the show, there.
Katie Couric
Were so many moments filled with joy.
Colin Cowherd
And laughter and cut up that I will never forget. Oh, girl, you got that right.
Katie Couric
The look that you all give me is so black.
Colin Cowherd
All black people know about the look. On each episode of welcome to the Family, we'll share Personal reflections about making the show.
Katie Couric
Yeah. We'll even bring in part of the cast and some other special guests to join in the fun and spill some tea. Listen to welcome to the Family with Telma and Kelly on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Jason McIntyre
Our person of the year in the NFL around the corner first, J. Mac with the news.
Colin Cowherd
No, no, no.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Turn on the news.
Colin Cowherd
This is the Herdline news. Let's go to the Dallas Cowboys. Colin, Interesting little brush fire on the interwebs over the last 48 hours because of the Cowboys defense and an interview that Matt Eberflus gave. He was asked many questions about his future in Dallas and how the Micah Parsons trade changed things for his approach. Here's what he said.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
I don't know if it changed that much.
Jason McIntyre
You know, obviously you're.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
You have an all pro pass rusher that wins really quick. That's certainly going to help any defense. If it's Micah or if it's Miles or whoever that might be, that impact player is always going to help, you.
Jason McIntyre
Know, to a certain degree, you know.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
In pass downs and other downs.
Jason McIntyre
But, you know, again, you can't look back.
Colin Cowherd
So here's what happened next. Colin. So Micah Parsons obviously saw this on social media, did the laughing, crying emoji. There it is. And then, of course, because the Internet's dumb, a lot of people came after Michael.
Jason McIntyre
That's not right.
Colin Cowherd
That's wrong. That's mean. And Micah responded with, y' all want me to feel bad? Jerry Jones slandered my name to the Cowboys media and national media for months. So I do think I can react to comments if I want to. Respectfully, well done, Micah.
Jason McIntyre
I don't know. I don't know. Did Jerry slander him? I don't. Yeah. Did he?
Katie Couric
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
He was acting like he's not one of the greatest pass rushers just in the first five seasons of his career in NFL history. He was acting like he was just a guy. It was. It was disrespectful. So I'm with Micah here. I know you like to keep up for the billionaire class, the elites. I am a. I am a fan of the little man, Micah Parsons. You know, I know he's doing well financially, but he is the underdog here, going up against Darth Vader in the Evil Empire.
Katie Couric
Okay.
Cam Jordan
Yeah.
Jason McIntyre
I mean, if you feel that way. I mean, I like to see guys get paid. I just like paying quarterbacks, left tackles, one weapon and an interior D line. And I sometimes, with Outside of Miles Garrett, maybe Max Crosby. I can struggle paying some pass rushers, but he's great. There's no qu. And I like that Green Bay took a swing on him. So.
Katie Couric
All right.
Colin Cowherd
They were headed potentially for the Super Bowl. Colin before this Micah injury. I mean, I. I like this packers team. I have futures on them that are up in smoke, but team Micah Parsons for me. All right, let's move on to the Minnesota Vikings and a punching bag of Colin Coward. This man will not be the man of the year. And that is J.J. mcCarthy. He struggled in his first year starting. Remember, he missed his rookie year. But Justin Jefferson is saying nice things about his quarterback heading into the off season. Here's Jefferson on who he wants throwing him the ball next year.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
That's not my. That's not my. My, my job. Of course I would love for him to be here. Of course I would love for him to be the quarterback, especially off of this year. I feel like he needs to show everybody and prove to everybody that he is that top tier quarterback. So I would love to have him and I love to work with him and show everybody he is that number one guy.
Colin Cowherd
Let's hear it. Come on. Let's hear. I see a smirk. I know something's coming.
Jason McIntyre
Go ahead. No, he had his injury right now because he played well in the last month. His durability, that's an absolutely fair question. He said, I don't know what the numbers are in front of me, but he's had a chance to play like 30 games and he's played, you know, 11 of them or something. I mean, he's just not healthy enough. Even when I love a quarterback like Joe Burrow, I'm like, guys, one more sprained ankle here and we got to draft the quarterback at some point. I think Lamar Jackson's great, but he's missed 17 games. That's a full season over the course of like seven years of starting. I think durability doesn't get talked about a lot. Brock Purdy is very good when he's 100% healthy. So this. Forget all the quarterback stuff because he did get better at the end of this year. He's played nine of 33 games, nine of 33 since entering the league.
Colin Cowherd
You know, he's also, I think, the youngest starter in the NFL. Just got to get that body right. You know, maybe get on the J. Mac workout plan and beef up a little bit. I'm rooting for the guy.
Katie Couric
By the way.
Colin Cowherd
I like the Vikings a lot. I don't like A lot this week. I like the Vikings against the Packers MASH unit. Final story. College football. Haven't talked about Arch Manning and what he did to Michigan in one of these exhibition games. That didn't mean much. Arch, who, you know, struggled for most of the year, came on strong late, put up 376 yards, four touchdowns. He won with his arm, one with his legs, and he was a Citrus bowl mvp. Put that one in the file cabinet. Here's what he said about Peyton, who was also the Citrus bowl mvp.
Jason McIntyre
Do you kind of have some bragging rights? What's that conversation going to be like? Nothing against the Citrus bowl, but I.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Think he played in it twice.
Katie Couric
I don't.
Jason McIntyre
I don't want to have to play in it twice. Us to be better leaders and get this thing going. The standard is the standard of Texas.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
So got to keep it going and have a good 20, 26.
Jason McIntyre
No, he played great. Deserves a lot of credit.
Colin Cowherd
Interesting showcase game on the eve of the transfer portal, so. Transfer portal's now open. Colin, you know, we got a Texas staffer here on the Herd, and I'm.
Katie Couric
I'm.
Colin Cowherd
Who are they? Who are they getting? Because right now, Colin, everybody in the portal wants to go play with Archbannon.
Katie Couric
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
He looks really good in that game.
Jason McIntyre
Well, why would I. Why would I leave Texas?
Colin Cowherd
Well, here's the thing. Allegedly his roommate is entering the transfer portal. A wide receiver. Why would you do that if you're Arch's roommate? Reportedly, some of the best receivers in the country, including Cam Coleman at Auburn. He's the number one receiver. This dude is a. He looks like Jamar Chase. 6, 3, 2, 10. Apparently there's rumors that he could go from Auburn to Texas and catch passes from Arch Manning. Listen, everybody was a year early on Arch in Texas. They're really. Look, they could potentially load up with a lot of.
Jason McIntyre
First of all, the next year's quarterback class.
Colin Cowherd
Oh, it's good.
Jason McIntyre
Potentially exceptional.
Colin Cowherd
I'm just glad we've taken Julian Sayan out of there. He will be a four year starter, assuming he doesn't get booted by state. Listen, next year's class. Which leads me to the whole Dante Moore Jet stuff. But we could talk about that later. I don't know. Do you take one this year and next year, too, do you? You can't punt this year and look to next year.
Jason McIntyre
The jets have been punning for the last decade.
Colin Cowherd
Thank you. Thanks for the reminder. Yeah, but Arch Manning, you never want to go gaga over an exhibition game. He did look pretty sharp. Colin?
Katie Couric
Oh, no, no, no, no.
Jason McIntyre
He our take's always been he's really athletic. You don't think of the Mannings as athletic. He's really athletic. A big kid that runs well and he kind of cleaned up his mechanics. I thought he played. Why watch some of it? He played well.
Colin Cowherd
It's early, but we just saw Alabama look kind of like Dudu. I think the team to be in the SEC next year, it's probably. I mean, who's beating?
Jason McIntyre
Well, they've got the money. They've got. It's the money crowd.
Colin Cowherd
And Georgia, they don't look like they have it. Stockton, I think, is moving on. I think it's gonna be Texas next year. Keep an eye on Arch Manning.
Jason McIntyre
J. Mac with the news. Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the Herd Lie news. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, weekdays at noon Eastern, 9am Pacific.

As we head into 2026, it's safe to say that 2025 was a year like no other. So much news, so much disruption, and yes, so much division. That's why we're wrapping up this season of Next Question with a look back at everything that's happened. Things are coming at us with such a velocity, we thought it was important to take a moment, connect the dots and explore what it all means. We're summing up the first year of Trump's second term with David Graham on Project 2025 and and how many of the goals have been implemented. Richard Haass on foreign policy and the changing world order. Jessica Valenti on reproductive rights and the terrifying consequences of abortion bans. Tina Brown on the year scandals here and across the pond. The president has upended everything from pardons to the press, so we're covering it all. Dak Prescott, Matt Stafford, Trevor Lawrence or Caleb Williams this week? Colin. Now you got to be careful because some of these guys like Dak are.
Jason McIntyre
Probably going to play a quarter or.
Colin Cowherd
A series and then bounce.
Jason McIntyre
Stafford goes big against the Cardinals whose defense is allergic to everything.
Colin Cowherd
What about Caleb Williams? I think he needs 200 and some odd yards to be the first 4,000 yard passer in franchise history.
Jason McIntyre
The Lions run defense is so lean, so weak. I, I think they're going to run the ball with such efficiency. I mean maybe they're trying to generate it, you know, kind of engineer a big passing day. That would be cool, that would be fun. But I think they're going to run it with some real conviction. Yeah, 4,000 yards. The team Chicago has never had a 4,000 yard passer and he's a couple hundred yards shy. So it is remarkable in football, this big competitive landscape what one person can do. One year ago the Lions were 15 and two, number one offense in pro football. The Bears were five and 12, 32nd ranked offense. Then one guy went from the good team, the Lions to the bad team, the Bears and now Chicago's 115 top three offense and the Bears are 8 and 8 and they got a lot of issues and the two meet this weekend. And so we always talk about value and impact. Ben Johnson has totally rerouted two separate franchises. Completely rerouted the flights. This is not just being a good head coach, this is being influential. That's what this is. So you know, first of all, be very careful ever letting great walk out the door. But here's here is Ben Johnson on this young team that you worried if Caleb was a bust. Yeah, we don't, we don't worry about that anymore. Here's Ben on this very young and ascending Chicago group.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
Usually when you have a young team, a really young team. They tend to ride the wave a little bit more of going up and down. And I think we've got, we've got a really good core of veteran leaders that keep the main thing, the main thing. And they've made my life a lot easier with this transition and that along with some veteran coaches and you know, it takes a lot of people to get it done like that.
Jason McIntyre
It does. And Caleb has been excellent. But for one man to have that influence to two separate organizations, you can go ahead and name Elon Musk or your favorite politician. Person of the Year. The herds first annual person of the year is Ben Johnson. Look at that. You go ahead and go with that Musk guy. I'm going with. I'm going with Ben Johnson. All right, big matchup tomorrow night at 7 o'.
Katie Couric
Clock.
Jason McIntyre
I'll be on the couch. I don't know about the rest of you finishing off a few more chicken enchiladas. Had four yesterday. Still three left in the pan. I like Seattle. I think they have a deeper roster. And you don't know if Trent Williams plays or George Kittle. My guess is yes to both. But I asked RG3 was on the show 30 minutes ago a little bit about Sam Darnold before the showdown in.
Robert Griffin III (RG3)
The Bay Area quarterbacks today. Colin have to have guys around them. Sam Donald having Jackson, Smith and Jigba this season, you know, last year having Justin Jefferson at wide receiver, that makes dividends for a qb. Sam Donald has that now and that's why you're seeing me excel. And I think that the, the Seahawks aren't getting the credit they deserve and it's because of Sam Donald. No one believes that he can get it done in the playoffs.
Jason McIntyre
Yeah, I, I, I'm one of these. Matt Staffords has always been a little reckless. In fact, if you remember for the people that say you can't win with Sam Darnold, the year the Rams won the Super Bowl, Matt Stafford led the NFL in picks. Now, now, you know, back in the old days, Namath Elway threw a lot of picks. Farve through a lot of picks. Picks don't drive me crazy. An unwillingness to throw the ball down the field drives me crazy. And somebody who struggles, Aaron Rodgers at times I feel like his mood and his body language changes if he throws a pick or two. I like aggressive throw the ball down the field. I think their bigger issue is after jsn I like their tight ends. Their running backs are hit and miss. They don't really have a Dependable number two. Rashid Saeed was supposed to be that guy from New Orleans, deep threat. Being kind of inconsistent. But I said earlier I put up the 10 best players in this game. I think at the highest end, George Kittle remains unbelievable. I think Christian McCaffrey is the best player in the game. Kittle and Trent Williams are two of the best four. JSN has established himself as a top two to three receiver in the league. He and Darnold are great together, but in terms of depth of talent. Byron Murphy, Devon Witherspoon, Nick Emanwara, DeMarcus Lawrence. Seattle's got the deeper, younger, more athletic roster. Much, much better defense. But again, if McCaffrey busts it for 140 yards, Kittle has seven catches. Trent Williams can keep the pass rush at bay. Then San Francisco wins the game. J. Mac and I are diametrically imposed on this one. I, I think it's close. I think it's competitive. Seattle has been the best road team in the league the last two years. So. And it's an hour and 10 minute flight. I don't think it's a big deal. I like Seattle in this game. If I ask you, J. Mac, what does the game look like to you? What kind of game is it? What do you, what do you. What transpires?
Colin Cowherd
I don't want to give too much away. We may be talking about this in headlines in the next hour, but yeah, I think we're both thinking with our hearts in this one. You love Sam Darl. Everybody knows that. You know, when you give out your Valentine's in a month, Sam Darnold's getting one, obviously. And when I do mine, Brock Purdy's getting one.
Jason McIntyre
Right.
Colin Cowherd
So we're kind of thinking with our heart over our head here. I'm worried because some respected money is pushing this lineup. You see one and a half. If you look at some certain other shops, it ain't one and a half. It's up to two. Two and a half.
Jason McIntyre
That's wise guy money.
Colin Cowherd
It probably is. I don't think it's, you know, Joe Public dropping 20 bucks in Vegas is moving it. I just can't go against the Niners at home right now. Is there a hotter team offensively in the league right now?
Jason McIntyre
No, that's different. No, there is not.
Colin Cowherd
I'm a ride that wave. Just like certain college basketball team play later today. Sometimes when you're hot, you got to ride it. But I just.
Katie Couric
We'll see.
Colin Cowherd
Sam Darnold last week in this spot for Minnesota or last season. How do you do? I forgot.
Jason McIntyre
You remember San Francisco, last in the league in sacks.
Colin Cowherd
See how he dodged it, everybody?
Jason McIntyre
Yes, yes.
Colin Cowherd
San Fran has no pressure, no sacks, no defense. Can Robert Sala scheme up some stuff?
Jason McIntyre
Well, he will. Robert's been super aggressive. Salah deserves a lot of credit because it's there's it should not. It should be a bottom three defense in the league. It really should. It's not middle of the pack, which is award winning when you consider what they're dealing with, injuries and lack of experience. Howard 3 now. Running a business is hard enough.
