Dan Byer
I like Panda Express.
Danny G
Okay, that too. And Auntie Anne's Pretzels.
Dan Byer
Auntie Ann's. All right, five stores. What do you prefer?
Danny G
Auntie Anne's Pretzels or Wetzel?
Dan Byer
Wetzel all Day, bro.
Danny G
Can I give everyone a recommendation? I think I mentioned this already, but if you need something to watch Danny G. We talk about it on Fridays Weekend hobnobbing all our favorite shows. We talked about friends and neighbors and there's all these great shows Out. Now I watch a documentary. History Channel boy over here, Steve Covino, who? You always see his stupid head talking on these things.
Dan Byer
I'm on four series. Is four different series on the History Channel. Doesn't need to be plural, I think so. Series is.
Danny G
Yeah, that's what it is. What do you want? The doofuses that Built America. What is it?
Dan Byer
I want Icons that Built America. I'm on Toys that Built America, season three. And two more to come. And I can't tell you what they are yet, are coming soon.
Danny G
There is one, though, I want to recommend to all the sports fans out there. And Dan Byer, I feel like this would be right up your alley. Danny G. You're men of history, you're men of knowledge. Maybe you too, I would say. Now it's the mega brands. Oh, yeah, mega brands. The mega brands that built America. And there's an episode all about Spalding and Wilson and, dude, you don't realize how innovative some of these men were in the early part of the 20th century, the late 19th century where, you know, people were playing baseball and every game in every league had a different ball, a different size, a different weight.
Dan Byer
They were playing barehanded. It was a weakness. Like you were a weenie if you wore a glove.
Danny G
Until Spalding.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Danny G
Spalding was so respected as a great athlete that he came out there wearing gloves and people were like, well, Spalding, it would be like if Ohtani came out wearing, you know, something people may say, well, if he does, it's like.
Dan Byer
When Ernie peed his pants.
Danny G
And Billy's like, if he in your pants is cool. Consider me Miles Davis. Yeah, same thing.
Dan Byer
It's like that because it was cool immediately once it happened. And Spalding, he was that good.
Danny G
I don't want to give away the whole documentary but Spaulding then wore two, like, almost driving gloves that turned into one with bigger fingers. And then who decided to connect the fingers of the glove and make a pocket of a baseball glove? I don't know. These two brothers, the Rawlings brothers. So honestly, if you're a sports fan, this is right up your alley. And Wilson's involved.
Dan Byer
Yeah. Enrique Wilson, right?
Danny G
Oh, no, not Henry.
Dan Byer
Former utility infielder. He invented it.
Danny G
I'm sorry, Wilson.
Sam
Wilson.
Danny G
I'm sorry, Wilson. A meat factory who was trying to figure out what to do with other parts of the animal or maybe leather sporting goods. And let's just say the NFL and the then AFL were using a rugby ball. And Wilson's like, listen, I can make you throw this Thing better, I could reshape it. Trust me. I'm Wilson, and to this day, the Duke. The Wilson football is the official NFL football. I only gave a couple fun facts. I promise. It's an hour of cool documentary knowledge. And that's the, I believe, mega brands that built America.
Shaquille O'Neal
It is.
Dan Byer
It's a great series. I love the reenactments. I love all those shows. The blank that built America. They're all great. The foods that built America. But Rich is right. The mega brands one, the one about sporting equipment.
Danny G
No, I watched the nacho. I watched the nacho.
Dan Byer
The nacho libre one.
Danny G
No, I watched the tostito paste salsa one once, and I thought that was fascinating because you realize that, you know, a lot of white guys like me, hot sauce was not a thing. And when they made salsa, they're like, all right, we need to make it bland. And they're like, yeah, but bland sounds like a negative word.
Dan Byer
American taste buds were not ready for that. And now we're accustomed. We're used to it. So, yeah, they had a. They had to prepare the bland taste buds for what we love today.
Danny G
So think about that. Mild was the word they came up with because they couldn't say Americans were allergic to spicy. Well, they couldn't be like, let's make it blands for the white guys. So they're like, we. Mild.
Shaquille O'Neal
Mild.
Danny G
There you go. So these are all great.
Dan Byer
That's the mild. Rich Davis.
Danny G
I would say I'm. What's. I mean, you got to watch these things.
Dan Byer
I can't say basic or bland, but there he is. The mild Rich day.
Brandon
I'm sorry I missed the network or streaming service. What was it?
Danny G
History Chat.
Brandon
Okay. Okay.
Danny G
So if you got Hulu, I just look on Hulu like on Demand, and.
Dan Byer
They'Re all so good. He's not lying. The blank that built America. They're all great.
Danny G
And it's no commercial. I mean, I watch a bunch of dumb stuff on every streaming service, but if you just want something light in the background, learn a little something.
VJ Husky
So you're saying you're Mile Davis? Like, if you're. If that's what's cool. Consider me Miles Davis.
Danny G
Mild Miles Davis.
Dan Byer
Mild Davis. Good one. I like that one, Sam. I like it. So we're Cavino and Rich. We're gonna play some games this hour again, give away prizes. Like we said, Shaq Diesel. Trivia. Doing that to get you fired up for the NBA playoffs, but something we've been meaning to get to, and it feels like these stories keep Piling up in the past few weeks. So perfect timing. Now, covering for somebody in a big moment. Do you have a story of your own? I'd love to hear about it. Did you. Wally Pip, the person. I want to hear. I want to know the story. Did you. Drew Bledsoe, the moment. Did you step up and Tom Brady, the moment. Would it be a Tom Brady? No, it'd be, yeah. Drew Bledsoe.
Danny G
Well, here's the thing. If they always called it a Wally Pip, wouldn't it be a Drew Bledsoe?
Dan Byer
And it would be a Drew Bledsoe.
Sam
Yeah.
Dan Byer
So the times you had a cover for somebody in a big moment, because these are frantic situations, but could redefine who you are and could be a big moment for you, depending on the story and the moment. Right. Most recently, Dennis Scott, because of technical difficulties, had a cover for Spiro Deeds and Candace Parker. So they were having. And he's what, like a color commentator?
Sam
Yeah, he's usually down.
Dan Byer
Sideline, sideline, dude. And they were having technical difficulties, so he had to do the play by play.
Sam
Yeah.
Dan Byer
And step up.
Sam
The main booth was cut off.
Danny G
And by the way, you may think.
Dan Byer
Oh, he's a broadcaster and he's. He's college enough, former player. But I'll tell you what, these are separate skills, guys. It's like, it's like asking an outfielder to play second base. You know what I mean? Like, it's just not something that you do. Rich and I are on the air every day just for fun. One time we tried to do baseball play by play, and we could pretend all day and we watch baseball.
Danny G
It's not easy.
Dan Byer
It's not easy to do that if that's not your skill. It's like us trying to do what Dan Byard does as an anchor, you know, that's not something that we do. It's a different skill set.
Sam
Yeah, he had to start. He had to start reading off the teleprompter and then he jumped into the play by play.
Dan Byer
Dude, that's scary. Especially you're not used to that. And we've seen so many moments. Right.
Danny G
Dan's job, I'd started every time by going, it's update time. I'd have a whole gimmick.
Brandon
The start is the easy part. The ending is the difficult part.
Danny G
You gotta time that out.
Sam
I feel like at the end, Rich would go, woo.
Danny G
I'd go, shazami.
Dan Byer
That music would make me.
Danny G
When Dan Beyer goes, I'm Dan Byer. Dun, dun, dun, dun. Like, and that hits Perfectly. That's a skill, Rick.
Shaquille O'Neal
It is.
Dan Byer
It's a skill. So you may think to yourself, like, a big deal. He had to do the play by play. He's a basketball guy. If that's not what you do, and if you've never done it on a big stage like that, you know, that's like you again, playing a position or doing something you've never done before. Like, oh, man. So Dennis Scott stepped up for Spiral DD's Candace Parker. Tech difficulties in an NBA playoff game. Big moment. Now, just this weekend, Kentucky Derby, Mike Tirico apparently had a peanut allergy.
Sam
Yeah. Bad reaction to it.
Dan Byer
And I don't know, that could be severe. I don't know how bad it was. But because of that, Ahmed Farid had to step in.
Sam
So tweeted that he was okay. He lived through it, but he said he was grateful to the broadcast team for stepping up for him.
Dan Byer
So think about that. You know, these are great opportunities. Unfortunate for them, but opportunities are knocking for these other people. And I think everybody has a moment or could think of a sports moment maybe where, hey, that guy wasn't ready, but he had to get in there and do his thing and he had to step up. And you know what? It was a big moment for that guy. My career, I have a stupid, stupid story, but it gave me the chops and understanding of, okay, well, I guess I could do this. Coming up in radio. I remember I was at Jones Beach, New York, Great concert venue, outdoor venue. And it was for, I don't know, like a. This big festival concert that KROC New York was broadcasting from. Right. And this sounds stupid now, but back then it was a big deal. Booker, who's an iHeartRadio host, Chris Booker, was supposed to interview Collective Soul. So this is like the late 1900s, right? But again, collective soul, not the biggest band in the world. But after Shine.
Danny G
Shine is a good song.
Sam
Love that song.
Dan Byer
Are you kidding me? The world I know make you cry, right?
Danny G
December, hit me up with some collective.
Dan Byer
Soul, I would say in my hand. Contagious as you think I am. Right? So they had a bunch of hits. Heavy, let's Gel. So. But Shine is a good one. And for whatever reason, Chris Booker is stuck in traffic. And I'm like, oh, man, I was the only idiot there. First to be there, last to leave when you're coming up, right? That's just the role you played. I'm hanging up banners.
Brandon
I'm the only guy there.
Dan Byer
Boss is like, yeah, this is your time. Stay. You gotta interview Collective Soul. I mean, again, looking back as Collective soul, whatever, we've done this a million times. But when I'm a young kid and I'm buying their CDs, they're the biggest thing in the world to me. Right. It's the world I know. And I'm like, oh, man, I remember just being so nervous, but I had to do it, and I had to step up and fill in for Booker. And it was just on those recording. It wasn't a live broadcast, but I had to step up with the Marantz system, as Danny G probably remembers. You remember those handheld recording devices, and you had to be so careful and certain that you were recording it and the levels were right and just pray that it came out okay. And I'm recording, and I did that interview with Collective Soul, and I was just like, barely 20, man, if that. And I just remember at the time, I had to step up because he was late or didn't show up or was sick or whatever the case was. And for me at the time, it showed that I'll step up if needed, and I could handle these things. I mean, I sucked, but I still did it. And it showed me that, yeah, man, maybe I can do this in the future. Who knows?
Danny G
And that's happened twice in the broadcasting world in the last week.
Dan Byer
So just in the last week.
Danny G
So just coincidentally, you know, those times you covered and, you know, maybe got an opportunity. I have an example for, like, every part of life.
Dan Byer
It happened to me in sports, too. I got more stories.
Danny G
I have a sports example because he's a Cy Young Award winner, a guy that we think of as one of the most dominant pitchers of our generation. Jacob deGrom got called up as a spot starter. He was a minor league shortstop who was transitioning to pitcher. Yeah. And you think about, if deGrom has a bad start, what do they do? Yeah, go back to the minors and see what happens. Jacob deGrom took that and ran with it and became a generational pitcher.
Dan Byer
Oh, yeah. Again, that's stepping up in the moment, you know, taking that moment. And that's what we're talking about. The times you had a cover for somebody.
Danny G
How about this one?
Dan Byer
It could have been a nightmare, too. It doesn't matter.
Danny G
Let's go back roughly, you know, 40 to 50 years. LA Lakers. Jack McKinney gets in a bicycle crash. We saw it on Winning time.
Sam
Yeah.
Danny G
Pat Riley was, you know, a young, hungry assistant that gave Pat Riley his way in the door and never looked back. In fact, the team was Then given to him.
Dan Byer
You have a personal story, Rich?
Danny G
I do, but it's a really corny one, though. I want to hear it. That's.
Dan Byer
I mean, you're the corniest guy I know. Sun Brand, as far as I'm concerned. Let's hear it.
Danny G
All right. Well, it's a really corny example, guys. For real. Like, like corny. Like it makes sense because it reminded me that I don't really. I don't get scared at broadcast or anything like that.
Dan Byer
I don't think, like, my collective soul story was the coolest.
Danny G
Well, compared to this story, no.
Dan Byer
I can't wait. Let's hear it.
Danny G
So I was in a school play my senior year.
Sam
Why are you laughing at the start of the story?
Dan Byer
Because he's probably like the fill in for Little Orphan Annie. That's when Rich sang Tomorrow and everybody cried. They gave him a standing up and the rest is history.
Danny G
No, the. The night of the performance for me. So it's a corny play, too. Anything Goes.
Dan Byer
Okay.
Danny G
I was in the Broadway show Anything Goes as a senior in high school, and the girl that was the opposite lead of me, I was the lead guy. She was the, you know, the actress. She had like a laryngitis anxiety attack combination where in concert we had a duet. And as corny as is, like, I would sing a line, she would sing a line, I would sing a line, she would sing along. And that was like the. That was like the main song in Anything Goes, she gives me a look like my voice is gone.
Dan Byer
So right there on the song.
Danny G
So instinctively I look down and you know, like the pit conductor for the, the. The. The band.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Danny G
Looks up at me and just points at me. And for the rest of the song, I sang my part and her part and made it seem like it was just my song. And at that moment, I'm like, I think I could be a professional broadcaster. Wow.
Dan Byer
And then for the following show, for the encore later on, Rich painted one side like a woman and he would just flip sides. And again, he won a high school acting award.
Danny G
That was. Yeah.
Dan Byer
Wow, dude. That's a pretty cool story, though, because that happened, like, live in the moment. She's like, I can't sing.
Danny G
She tried to get the first line.
Dan Byer
Oh, that is. Yeah, that's a matter of nerves.
Danny G
And.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Danny G
And I was just like, all right. And I just started singing her words.
Dan Byer
You stepped up. You know, Again, you see this in real sports all the time, in real life all the time. We have two stories in the past few weeks. That we're sharing with you. Times you had to step up in those moments and you know, they're nerve wracking. Sometimes you deliver, sometimes you don't. But if you don't, were you really expected to anyway? Right. So it might be a little embarrassing. It wasn't on you.
Danny G
I have a good fictional one, but it's. It's a great example of this.
Dan Byer
I actually liked your story, by the way. It's just corny because. Yeah, it's high school. I got a high school one too.
Danny G
We all watched. I mean, I don't know if you did. We talked about friends earlier. How I met your mother was one of my favorite shows in the 2000s. And there's an episode where Robin Chabotsky, played by Colby Smulders. Robin is a news anchor on the local, like, channel one local news. It was a big New Year's Eve event. And that, you know, the. The funny guy that's like the sexual harassing boss. She had Sandy Rivers on New Year's Eve, the big ball drop broadcast. He dips away to get with some woman. And like, someone's on in five, four, three. And she grabbed the mic and that was like her big break.
Shaquille O'Neal
Ah.
Danny G
So it's like, you know, a lot of times, you know, you gotta take that moment and run with it a la Tom Brady. Allah.
Dan Byer
You know, Wally, Lou Gehrig.
Danny G
Lou Gehrig. Allah. Me and the Broadway show.
Dan Byer
No, these are. These are all great moments in Jake deGrom.
Danny G
I mean, how many times do you see, dude, we're talking about him during the commercial break in the hallway. Me and big Brandon here, both Niners fans. Brock Purdy could very well be a backup quarterback. Maybe not even the league. Making 7, $800,000 as a backup. Maybe a million. Jimmy G goes down before that. Trey Lance doesn't work out. Brock Purdy seized his moment more than anyone else I could even think of in the last five years. The guy's going to end up making over $50 million a year because he was given an opportunity and he was ready.
Dan Byer
That's a great. Yeah, he might be like the greatest answer of that since Tom Brady. I know that sounds crazy because he hasn't accomplished that much, but Rich is right. He would have been just a regular quarterback. Mr. No one talked about irrelevant man barely getting by. He would have been a forgotten backup.
Danny G
We're talking about Chador Sanders in the fifth round. And I was like, oh, my God. Brock Purdy was the last chosen in the draft. Last person chosen, like all Right. And the draft is wrapping up. Who's funny? Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy. He didn't think it was that funny. He got a chance and you know what he was probably thinking? He had faith in himself and said if I ever get a chance, man, I'm going to show them what I got. Even in. As you said, they would always talk about in, in practice, guys like Fred Warner and respected defenders would say, when this kid gets a chance, you see he wants it.
Dan Byer
There was an American Leg Legion championship game I was in and it was from 13 to 16. The team I was on and the 16 year old, all state, all American, I'm not exaggerating, like all American allstate athlete that I played with.
Danny G
You're probably on the 13 year old team as, as a 16 year old, you're like Daniel Monte.
Dan Byer
Yeah, no, I was, that was 13. Right. And the guy pitching the championship game was the guy you had all the confidence in the world in. Like, oh man, he's, he's pitching. He's no longer alive unfortunately, you know, but shout out to him. But he's pitching the championship game and he comes out and like the second inning with like elbow flare up. It's like the. No, it was like the first inning, second, first inning and they're like, Cavino, I'm 13 year old kid. I'm like, I'm pitching the championship game. I had no, I was not expecting that. Dude pitched it, won it. And again that's just one goofy little story that happens time and time again, over and over and over. But again the times you had to step up in life and deliver, hit us up at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
Danny G
And now, you know, I thought of one more. I'm sorry, just one more quickie because it doesn't always work out. I just want to give you the flip side. We're talking about the people where you get an opportunity, it doesn't work out. You know who we always forget who? Unfortunately the spot starter that gives up six runs in the first inning. The backup, the backup quarterback who throws three picks and is like, all right, he's never going to get another chance. The NBA, you know, player that gets a shot in the G league to be on the squad, plays 13 minutes, you know, turns the ball over and gets no points.
Dan Byer
So I don't want to like bring up weird memories, but I heard a broadcast recently where some guy was like, you can't be broadcasting here. And an anchor that works here had to take over the broadcast like mid broadcast it was pretty sweet, you know, it was a pretty sweet transition. Like, almost like flawless.
Sam
In the middle of an interview.
Danny G
In the middle of an interview, too.
Brandon
And that guy is still at the anchor desk to this day. That's.
Dan Byer
And I'm looking at this guy right now. He did a great job.
VJ Husky
Not all heroes wear capes.
Dan Byer
I know, but again, that's like stepping up. You see, these things happen. And that's what happened twice in the past few weeks. Again, Dennis Scott and who was it again? Ahmed Farid.
Danny G
You know what, backup quarterbacks in college, a lot of times someone goes down and you. And you hope that maybe that guy has the opportunity. You see it at Alabama all the time because they have, you know, they're pretty deep. Next guy up gets a chance, whether it's young or before that two or, you know, like, it's always a guy that's getting a shot. I always think back to that one ballgame and I don't know why I'm drawing a blank. Texas quarterback who got injured on the first game of the first play of the national championship, Colt McCoy. Cole McCoy. Now, whoever the backup was, we forget because that guy had an opportunity to be like, it's the national championship. Colt McCoy gets injured on the first series. I'm in. But he wasn't. And we don't even know who it is. You know why we don't know? Because they stunk. And the game was at.
VJ Husky
It was Garrett Gilbert.
Danny G
Yeah, Garrett Gilbert. No offense to him.
VJ Husky
They actually made it competitive.
Danny G
And then they.
VJ Husky
And then Alabama pulled away.
Danny G
Yeah.
Dan Byer
Well, it's finally so many moments. If someone gets sick, someone has 3,721. 3,721. Yeah. So again, your stories, your examples hit us up at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. Right now. I ask you guys to call at 87799 on Fox if you want to play Shaq Diesel trivia again. NBA playoffs heating up. We're going to do some multiple choice questions. Your chance to win a swiggy with the Swaggy, our stainless steel water bottle, the midnight black edition. So it's a real nice water bottle. Your chance to win. It's multiple choice, real fun to play, real easy. And again, Shaq Whack Diesel will be here next. 87799 on Fox if you want to play.
Danny G
All right, now it's playoff time. And if you're just watching the games, you're missing out with pick six from DraftKings. You could turn your hoops knowledge into some real cash.
Dan Byer
Just make your picks, track your score. And if you hit all six, you're looking at bigger payouts than prize pick flex plays.
Danny G
Now let me give you a couple players I want to see. I'm going to let Cavino build a little. A little pick six here. A couple examples. Jimmy Butler, 22 and a half. Are you going over? Under?
Dan Byer
Got to go over.
Danny G
So you're going over on Jimmy. Playoff Jimmy.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Danny G
What about Halliburton, 18 and a half.
Dan Byer
You know why? Because Jimmy's playing, man.
Danny G
Halliburton. Halliburton, 18 and a half.
Dan Byer
Is his dad going to be there?
Danny G
No, he is not.
Dan Byer
I'll go under just to. Yeah, mix it up.
Danny G
This is how you do. You pick your overall under. Yeah. Now you get six. If you hit six picks, that's 24. And if you beat your competition, you could be looking at 500 times your your money in your pocket. So right now, new customers, you're going to get $50 in bonus picks with just a $5 entry. Seems like a lot of fun. Why not give it a shot while you're watching the game anyway, right? The playoffs are on. Take a shot at making some Money. Download the DraftKings Pick Six app now and use code SCURD. Steve Cavino, Rich Davis, SCRD. And you're going to get 15 bonus picks, better payouts, bigger wins.

VJ Husky
No, Steve, you should have gone. No, no.
Danny G
Oh, hey, it's Kavino on KROC with Collective Soul. No.
Dan Byer
Hey, guys, I'm here with Collective Thaw.
Danny G
Do you step it up in those big moments?
Dan Byer
Like, yeah, what is Thong written about? You guys are like cool or something. Tell us a story. I had to interview him. I had to step up in a big moment. Hey, it made me think of when you think of the Mike Tirico story and Dennis Scott. How about that time where Danny Zuko stepped up on Thunder Road and he had to drive for Kanicki. Remember that one?
Danny G
That's the zone.
Dan Byer
Hit his head and he couldn't drive against. Who was it?
Danny G
But I will say what you described that there's as they call like a.
Dan Byer
Movie, how to drive Thunder Row, as.
Danny G
They call like a movie trope.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Danny G
There's always the, like the star, like, I can't do it. You're gonna have to fly the plane. Exactly like I can't do it. You're gonna have step in times you.
Dan Byer
Had to step up. And the best moments continue sharing at coveen ownerage at Fox Sports Radio. Right now, we're live from the Fox Sports Radio studio. Danny G
Now, are we. Are we ready to play a game or what? Let's do this. It is. It's time for a little Shaq Diesel trivia. Let's go.
Sam
Whenever we say not to name drop, that means we're about to name drop.
Danny G
I'll name drop.
Dan Byer
Oh, my goodness.
Sam
Not only are CNR friends with Tyson and Mahomes.
Dan Byer
Hey, man.
Sam
They're also buddies with the Big Aristotle.
Shaquille O'Neal
What's up? It's Big Shack Diesel. Aka AKA Shaq Fu, AKA Shaq Daddy, AKA the Big Aristotle. Guess what? It's time to win some C and R prize.
Dan Byer
Time for some basketball trivia.
Sam
What he said.
Shaquille O'Neal
I used to break bad boys. Now I'm breaking records for FSR Radio.
Dan Byer
Shaq Diesel basketball trivia.
Sam
All right. Our FSR security walking our broke Shaq Fu into the main studio.
Shaquille O'Neal
What are you fools talking about?
Danny G
Oh, times when you step it Up. Yeah.
Shaquille O'Neal
Remember when I had to step up for the Jabberwockies? Remember I danced with the jab walk? Remember the time I had to step up and fight Sugar Shane Mosley? Remember that?
Sam
Remember all those times you had to step up to the free throw line?
Shaquille O'Neal
Remember the time? Yeah. Remember all those times I had to step up and miss those final shots?
Sam
What did you think of Homegren missing those two big shots last night?
Shaquille O'Neal
Very reminiscent of my days. My days.
Sam
You'll have to make up for it in game two.
Danny G
Well, I'll tell you what, Shaq. Four time NBA champ, the 3P with the Lakers. And then, you know, I honored. Was that Miami Heat one just as nice because, you know, you got to branch away or what?
Shaquille O'Neal
Absolutely. Absolutely. Game. I got time to waste.
Sam
Let's meet the contestants. 10 time winner, Rich Davis, right over there. Spotty's out until tomorrow. So the leader in the clubhouse to the right of me, 13 time winner, Dan Byer.
Brandon
Hello.
Shaquille O'Neal
Hey. Happy anniversary.
Brandon
Thank you, Shaq.
Shaquille O'Neal
Even Shaq, I got you an icy hot gift. Basketball.
Sam
And looking to win a CNR stainless steel studio. We might pull something tonight on our studio lines. Let's say hi to Austin in Idaho.
Danny G
Austin.
Sam
Austin. What's up, brother?
Shaquille O'Neal
What's up, Austin?
Danny G
What's up?
Shaquille O'Neal
Hey, what's going on, Austin?
Sam
What do you do for a living there?
Danny G
I work over at Costco. Nice, man.
Sam
All right.
Danny G
By the way, you know what the hot item is at Costco?
Shaquille O'Neal
Yeah. Chicken bake.
Danny G
No, not the chicken bake. I feel like every little kid's team in sports has that speaker when you walk in. That like weatherproof speaker for all the announcements. 79 bucks, I think. Yeah.
Sam
Here are the rules for Shaq Diesel Trivia. The first contestant with two correct answers is the champ. If there's a tie, we have a.
Shaquille O'Neal
Tiebreaker question Five time champ four times. Four times.
Sam
Your name is your buzzer. But you do have to wait until all three possible answers are read. If there's two wrong answers in a row, we move on to the next question. Are you ready?
Danny G
Let's go.
Sam
Let's get it on.
Shaquille O'Neal
All right, let's get this big aristotle party started. Which player was the first to win two NBA final MVP awards? Was it A, Willis Reed? Was it B, Wilt Chamberlain? Or was it C, Larry Bird? Which player was the first to win two NBA Finals MVPs?
Danny G
I'm giving Austin a chance to chime in.
Sam
Austin, you're going to nothing to lose. Austin. Austin.
Danny G
Yeah. Let's go, B.
Sam
B, Wilt Chamberlain. No.
Danny G
Ooh, Rich.
Sam
Rich for the steal.
Danny G
Willis Reed.
Shaquille O'Neal
Yes, sir, that's correct. 1970. 1973 with the Knicks.
Danny G
Yep.
Shaquille O'Neal
By the way, they got a shot. Knicks looking good.
Sam
Rich on the board so far as we go to round two.
Shaquille O'Neal
Round two. What was I once quoted saying about leadership? A, when I notice my teammates going through the motions, I slam them awake with a monster dunk. B, our coach will yell until his voice is gone. I just shoot my guys a look, and they know I mean business. Or C, generals don't panic, then the troops never panic. What did I say about leadership?
Sam
Damn buyer.
Brandon
I'm gonna say B.
Dan Byer
No.
Danny G
Austin.
Sam
Austin for the steal. Yeah. C, C, C. Yes, sir.
Shaquille O'Neal
Generals don't panic, then the troops never panic.
Brandon
I just couldn't think that Shaq or Danny G would make up that quote. I know Shaq had such a hard time reading, but.
Shaquille O'Neal
But hey, I have something in my eye.
Sam
Dan Rich and Austin both on the board as we move to round.
VJ Husky
Hold on. Didn't Shaq also say, go with the general and save some time?
Danny G
He didn't say that.
Sam
Okay.
VJ Husky
All right, just checking.
Sam
Round three.
Shaquille O'Neal
Now, which former NBA player has the highest career free throw percentage? Is it A, Mark Price, B, Steve Nash, or C, Rick Barry Austin.
Sam
Austin. I'm gonna go. B, Steve Nash.
Danny G
Yes.
Dan Byer
And the win.
Danny G
Let's go.
Sam
Austin walks away with a CNR Swiggy.
Shaquille O'Neal
Steve Nash. He also gets shout outs. From who?
Danny G
Steve Nash gets a shot. Oh, that's a good question.
Dan Byer
Eminem?
Shaquille O'Neal
No.
Danny G
Steve Nash. Oh, the Fergie Fedevan.
Shaquille O'Neal
No, I forget. But she's got a big dumper. What's her name? You know, the girl, she sings Nelly Frittata. There it is.
Dan Byer
Nelly Furtado shouts out Steve Nashville shot.
Shaquille O'Neal
Over 90% from the line.
Danny G
You know what's so funny? I was so sure of myself. And by the way, congrats, Austin. You got that Swiggy with the swaggy. When you were saying that question, check I wrote down, before you even give the answers, I wrote down Mark Price. I was for certain, because don't you remember when we were kids, like, that was the one thing he was known for, like free throws. That was it.
Shaquille O'Neal
Steve Nash Highest career free throw. Percent. 90%. Kind of the opposite of me, but thank you, guys. I have to work tonight. I have things to do, but it's always fun.
Danny G
Later, buddy.
Sam
I want to specify too, for former players, because obviously Steph Curry is tops on that list at 91%.
Dan Byer
Thank you, Jimmy G. Good to see you.
Shaquille O'Neal
Later, Sam.
Sam
See you, Shaq.
Shaquille O'Neal
Later, guys.
Danny G
Be realistic, guys. I'm not saying any of us.
Shaquille O'Neal
Shaq, baby, just later, guys.
Dan Byer
Be realistic.
Danny G
Realistic.
Shaquille O'Neal
Letterman.
Danny G
None of us here play pickup basketball like we're Jason McIntyre from the Herd. None of us are. Coach Gottlieb, that have, you know, constantly on the court with their. Their team. If I gave you 100 free throws.
Dan Byer
Yeah, but I played double dribble.
Danny G
If I give you 100 free throws and you put money on the line, like money on the line, what would you guess would be your Percentage out of 100 shots? Free throw bikes.
Sam
Do we get any practice or warmup, or is this coming off the bench ice cold?
Danny G
You can warm up. If I said, Danny, you could warm up right now. We start at 4:00 Pacific. You're like, 20 minutes to warm up. You could shoot around, dribble, get some water, whatever you need to do. But I said, In 20 minutes from right now, I'm going to give you 100 free throws. You could take a couple breaks. They don't need to be all in a row. I'll give an hour. Take 100 free throws. How many are you hitting?
Dan Byer
I would do it for fun, but.
Danny G
How many think you're getting?
Sam
Oh, I would say we'd be lucky to get 40 out of the hundred.
Brandon
Danny's correct.
Dan Byer
I'm thinking over 60. Because once you get in a rhythm, once you find that rhythm. Yeah, man, the rhythm is going to get you.
Sam
I think in our heads, we think we could get 60, but realistically, 40.
Dan Byer
Really?
Brandon
I don't remember when in the season it was, but I distinctly remember at one point in high school, I saw my stats and I was a 57% free throw shooter.
Danny G
Oh, really?
Brandon
Yeah. And I. And I felt I was. I was good.
Dan Byer
Wow.
Danny G
Yeah.
Brandon
Like. But no, I didn't think I was good. I was just appalled at how bad that it was. I'm like, wow, I'm. That only 57%.
Danny G
Yeah, I. You know, DB I was going to say I would be very impressed with myself, and I consider myself a pretty athletic, active guy. Right. I would say I'd be impressed if I could hit 50% because.
Dan Byer
Yeah, but Steve Nash, 90%. That is pretty sweet.
Danny G
I think you're. It's like one of those things where the average idiot thinks they could do more than they can athletically, which is why they have shows like, remember Pros vs. Joe's? Petros was the host of that. I don't know. It's a good question. In fact, I feel like if we're bored. One day. Why don't we take the physical challenge, go across the street, 24 Hour Fitness, shoot some out of 100.
Dan Byer
I would do it for the fun of it. Just to answer the question. Let's put it to the physical. Let's take the physical challenge.
Danny G
Who would come in last place?
Dan Byer
VJ Husky.
Sam
Spot.
Danny G
VJ Husky would come in the last place.
Dan Byer
He was like, ah, my muscles are hurting.
Danny G
Ah, ah. I told you, I told you.
Dan Byer
I told you my muscles hurt.
VJ Husky
You would get tired.
Dan Byer
I was the only reason. I lost because my muscles are too big.
VJ Husky
I think VJ's hooping. You guys just hating VJ's hooping way more often than we think. I think I'd probably be the one who'd end up in last.
Dan Byer
Really?
Danny G
Yeah.
Dan Byer
Come on, Sam. You tell let's do it one day.
Danny G
Let's do it. I think. You know.
Dan Byer
Again, props to Steve Nash. 90. And what is Steph Curry currently do you know?
Sam
91.
Shaquille O'Neal
Wow, man.
Dan Byer
That is crazy.
Danny G
We're running late. Sorry, D. I know you hate when we run late.
Brandon
Well, I do, I do. Especially when I've got big news that I've been sitting on for about 10 minutes. The Cavaliers are without Evan Mobley, DeAndre Hunter and Darius Garland for tonight's Game 2 against the Pacers, all dealing with injuries. Garland didn't play in Game one, hasn't played for a couple of games because of a toe injury. Mobley and Hunter suffered their injuries in that Game one loss on Sunday. Out tonight against the Pacers. Game tips at the top of the hour. Pacers up one oh in the series. Game one between the warriors and Timberwolves 9:30 Eastern time tonight is that series gets underway in the Western Conference. Looking ahead to tomorrow. Celtics say Kristaps Porzingis is probable to play against the Knicks in Game two despite an illness that forced him to leave last night's Game one. As for Sam Houser, the forward suffered an ankle injury yesterday. He's doubtful to play tomorrow. Thunder GM Sam Presti named the NBA's executive of the Year, while Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty will not run on the Preakness Stakes in less than two weeks. Trainer Bill Mott says the plan is for the horse to run the Belmont Stakes. In early June, Inter Milan topped FC Barcelona 6 on aggregate to advance to the Champions League final. Inter Milan tied the match with a goal in stoppage time and then added a goal in extra time to win the semifinal. University of Florida gave men's basketball coach Todd Golden A six year extension worth 40 and a half million dollars, I should say. A month after winning the national championship, when they topped Houston in that championship game, Browns rookie quarterback Shador Sanders wearing number 12. Dylan Gabriel is going to don number five. And how about this from college football? Notre Dame and Clemson agreeing to a 12 year scheduling deal. Schools will play every year starting in 2027.
Dan Byer
Guys.
Danny G
Oh.
Brandon
Guardians beat the. Excuse me. Nationals beat the Guardians 10, nine in game one of a doubleheader. Now back to you guys.
Danny G
DB enjoy your anniversary night. Best wishes to you and your wife, buddy.
Brandon
Appreciate it.
Danny G
Hey, we got more Kavino and Rich next, right here on Fox Sports Radio. Hang tight.
Steve Cavino

Danny G
No, there it is.
Shaquille O'Neal
Yeah.
Dan Byer
Shaq was right, man. I forgot about the Steve Nash shout out in Promiscuous Girl.
Danny G
Nelly Furtado. Fun fact. I've known Camino for a long ass time.
Dan Byer
Yeah.
Danny G
When this song came out, we were friends and we're probably at a bar talking to some random girls or something. And you thought this song was Mysterious girl or Mystery Girl?
Dan Byer
Mystery Girl.
Danny G
Mystery Girl.
Dan Byer
Dude, what are you saying?
Danny G
He goes, mystery girl? I'm like, mystery girl?
Dan Byer
Mystery girl who? Yeah, whoever you are.
Danny G
As a mystery, it makes sense, right?
Dan Byer
I mean, but here's a fun fact. Timbaland went to high school with not only Missy Elliott, but he went to high school with Pharrell Williams. You gotta watch the piece by piece documentaries. Fantastic fun for the whole family. Piece by piece. The story Pharrell Williams told in Lego form.
Danny G
Can you name those three names that went to high school again?
Dan Byer
Missy Elliott, Timbaland. Pharrell Williams.
Danny G
I went to high school with no one. Cool.
Shaquille O'Neal
Yeah, me either.
Danny G
Danny G, did you go to high school. Anyone of that caliber?
Sam
No. After I graduated, Colin Kaepernick came around. But no, not while I was at my high school.
Dan Byer
Well, we're live from the Fox Sports Radio studio. Cavino and Rich. Remember to stream our show all the shows on fox Sports Radio Live 24. 7 on the new and improved iHeartradio app. Search Fox Sports Radio in the app and you could preset us number one just like you do on your radio. Again, Covino and Rich, because we can't live without our radio radio.
Danny G
Speaking of preset, Fox Sports Radio, one of the other shows that we're very friendly with great guys Kelvin and Rob Parker. The odd couple. Great guys.
Dan Byer
Love their show.
Danny G
I want to settle a debate. I'm sure they may talk about this on their show at some point. Kelvin put on instagram story settle a debate. Do adults eat cereal with milk on a daily basis? How often? And the options were yes, all the some days rarely or what am I a kid?
Sam
I saw this rarely.
Dan Byer
Rarely for me however, I'm a former serial killer. When I was a kid, that's all I ate. Don't tell my mom that though. She's offended.
Danny G
So there's a couple questions here. Number one, what are the foods that were out of your life for decades then you have kids and it re enters because that's cereal for me. Like I probably went 20 years of my life, probably from 20 to 40 without cereal and then now your kids are in the mix.
Sam
Dino nuggies come back.
Danny G
Yeah, like fruit roll ups are in my pantry.
Dan Byer
You're eating gushers again.
Danny G
So I'm gonna go. I'll rarely on occasion maybe a late night edible or if I'm just got the munchies or something, I'll pour a bowl of cereal. If you had to give me your.
Dan Byer
Go to cereal like my one to live on.
Danny G
I'm so torn because my debate, my inner debate is fruity Pebbles or cinnamon toast crunch and I can't decide.
Dan Byer
But hold on, here's my question. Is it without any repercussion, like I could just eat them for the rest of my life?
Danny G
Yeah, no calories. It's like when you go to a bakery.
Dan Byer
If I had to stay healthy, I would have picked lame choice.
Danny G
My wife and I are like a bakery. I always say look in the bakery thing, if calories didn't matter, what would you house right now?
Dan Byer
So it's the easiest question. Again, former. I'm like the Dexter of cereal. I house this. I'm a cereal killer. My answer is cocoa Pebbles number one all day. Eat it by the box. Because it always came in that, like, slightly smaller box. I would eat them at a box a sitting. So you go cocoa because you get that chocolatey, delicious milk at the end. Cocoa Pebbles. My answer, number one on the board.
Danny G
I mean, I would argue that cocoa and Fruity Pebbles are equally good.
Dan Byer
See, but to me, they taste like tricks. A little bit Fruity Pebbles. I don't not like Fruity Pebbles, but Cocoa Pebbles is my answer.
Sam
I'd say Cocoa Puffs is right up there.
Dan Byer
You're the puff kind of guy, huh?
Danny G
I would go for Cocoa Puffs. I was. Sam, what's your go to Sugary Terrible for your cereal?
VJ Husky
This is gonna sound lame, but my favorite cereal is Rice Chex, which is.
Danny G
Like people make Chex mix.
VJ Husky
Clearly Rice chex with like 2% milk to me is just something satisfying.
Sam
We used to put spoonfuls of sugar on top of that cereal.
Danny G
Dude, when my in my Cheerios or Rice Krispies. Like plain cinnamon.
VJ Husky
Like Honey Nut Cheerios. I like Honey Nut Cheerios.
Dan Byer
My family, we ate Booty O's, bro.
Danny G
Booty.
Sam
Oh, Frosted Flakes was a go to too when we were kids.
Danny G
But I mean, I feel like I'm the only one that even brought up Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Is this not universal?
VJ Husky
Toast Crunch is good.
Sam
Yeah, we have that in our pantry right now.
Danny G
Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Dan Byer
It's gonna be calling Danny's name late tonight.
Sam
You know what? I eat the healthy granola cereal now.
VJ Husky
I'll tell you what, my favorite sugar one is a special K with the chocolate and strawberries. That's like a divorced mom's favorite cereal.
Dan Byer
That's it. That is a good one. I like that one. But yeah, my answer, Cocoa Pebbles. What's your answer and why? Because they post this. Kelvin Post.
Sam
Yeah, I'd say cereal for an adult like once a week.
Danny G
My dude. Kelvin K Dub live on Instagram. Vote for yourself. Our good friends at the Odd Couple who are on Fox Sports Radio right after us. But I'm going to go. Some days. I'm going to vote someday.
Dan Byer
Remember that variety pack? Yeah, some days because you have little rugrats.
Sam
And Rob Parker loves to save money. I think that he would probably, probably get cornflakes and put his own sugar on top of it.
Danny G
Apple Jacks. Wait, is Rob the type of guy that buys the store brand?
Sam
Like, for sure.
Dan Byer
I like Tasty O's.
Danny G
Not. Not Cheerios. Tasty O. Tasty O. We'll see you guys tomorrow. Arriba. Dare you, baby.
Dan Byer
See you in the promised land later, guys.

The Herd with Colin Cowherd: Hour 2 - Doofus & the Tasty O's Release Date: May 7, 2025
In the latest episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, hosted by iHeartPodcasts and The Volume, listeners are treated to an engaging blend of sports analysis, personal anecdotes, and interactive fun. Titled "Hour 2 - Doofus & the Tasty O's," this episode delves into the significance of stepping up during critical moments, explores the evolution of sports equipment brands, and features a lively trivia segment with none other than Shaquille O'Neal.
The episode kicks off with a discussion about the History Channel documentary series, “Mega Brands that Built America.” The hosts delve into the innovative contributions of iconic brands like Spalding and Wilson in shaping the landscape of sports equipment.
Danny G. enthuses, “...Spalding was so respected as a great athlete that he came out there wearing gloves and people were like, well, Spalding...” (03:35), highlighting how Spalding's influence transformed perceptions in baseball.
Dan Byer adds historical context, stating, “...Former utility infielder, he invented it,” clarifying Wilson's role in advancing sports gear (04:26). The conversation underscores how these brands not only provided essential equipment but also innovated to enhance athletic performance and standardize equipment across leagues.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to sharing personal stories where individuals had to rise to the occasion during high-pressure situations. The hosts exchange anecdotes illustrating the importance of seizing opportunities when they arise.
Dan Byer recounts a pivotal moment from his early career:
“I had to step up and fill in for Chris Booker. I was barely 20, and I remember just being so nervous, but I had to handle it. It showed me that maybe I could do this in the future.” (07:11)
Danny G. shares a relatable story from his high school days:
“I was in the Broadway show Anything Goes as a senior. During a key duet, my co-star had a laryngitis-anxiety attack combo. I had to take over seamlessly, which made me realize I could handle unexpected challenges.” (14:24)
The hosts also draw parallels to the sports world, citing examples like Jacob deGrom and Brock Purdy, who capitalized on unexpected opportunities to cement their legacies.
Danny G. muses on Purdy's rise:
“Brock Purdy was the last person chosen in the draft. He seized his moment and became a generational pitcher.” (18:18)
These stories collectively emphasize that stepping up during crucial moments can redefine one's career and personal growth.
One of the highlights of the episode is the interactive trivia segment featuring NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal. Aptly named "Shaq Diesel Trivia," this segment invites listeners to participate in basketball-themed questions, blending competition with entertainment.
Shaquille O'Neal makes a memorable entrance:
“What's up? It's Big Shack Diesel... Time to win some C and R prize.” (27:34)
The trivia questions range from historical NBA accolades to leadership quotes attributed to Shaq himself. Notable moments include:
First to Win Two NBA Finals MVP Awards:
Highest Career Free Throw Percentage:
The segment concludes with playful banter and interactions, reinforcing the camaraderie among the hosts and their guest.
Throughout the episode, the hosts engage in light-hearted banter, discussing everything from favorite cereals to high school memories. This casual dialogue creates an inviting atmosphere, making listeners feel like part of the conversation.
Danny G. and Dan Byer joke about their lack of celebrity acquaintances, while Brandon shares updates on the latest sports news, ensuring the episode remains dynamic and varied.
A standout moment includes shared reflections on high school challenges and stepping out of comfort zones, further reinforcing the episode's central theme of resilience and adaptability.
As the episode draws to a close, the hosts wrap up by encouraging listeners to share their own stories of stepping up during critical moments. This call to action fosters a sense of community and continuous engagement beyond the episode itself.
Dan Byer remarks:
“Your stories, your examples... Hit us up at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.” (19:55)
The episode concludes with a reminder of upcoming shows and additional interactive opportunities, leaving listeners anticipating future episodes.
