Us and make sure you check out the fox Sports Radio YouTube channel. Our dudes, Elijah Sagar. Oh hell yeah, our buddy spot. They're kicking ass all week. All the interviews, funny clips, everything is there. Fox Sports Radio's YouTube channel and @ Covinon Rich where you can see everything going on.
Covino
I mean we had so many interviews this week. A lot of them are going to be on our best of the week. Danny G posts the best of the week every weekend on the podcast feed. Search Cavino and Rich. Curt Schilling's going to be on it. Seal and Debo Samuel, which you heard today. Paige Spiranek. We caught up with her this week. Andrew Whitworth and Drew Brees, who you're going to hear next. Okay, so look out for our best of the week and stick around for Donovan McNabb today. We also had Gary Vee stop by our bonus pod. So look out for that over promised with Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page.
AJ Stephens
You brought up a great point. Every time we talk to Gary V.
Covino
Gary V. NER Chuk hey, it's me, Gary Vee.
AJ Stephens
I'm gonna F him by the Jets. Every time I talk to him, I leave the conversation feeling so happy and good about our show. And Camino said, well, we have known him for a long time and he's a good friend, but he goes, that's what makes Gary Vee him.
Covino
He's a mastermind in those situations. He knows that part of his sales approach and just being a good guy and public speaker is to leave people feeling like, wow, he's the best. He leaves you feeling great, he leaves you feeling good. It's definitely a tactic, but he's genuine at the same time. That's what makes him different. Now we gotta talk LeBron in just a few minutes, but let me give you the gist of what's going on here. LeBron James playing like he's 20 something years old again. So hope you had a LeBron James sort of night. Hope you're having a Canelo Alvarez sort of week. He just signed a real fat 4 fight deal and Jake Paul is not included. So that rumor squashed as of now.
AJ Stephens
Wait, so the Jake Paul rumor squashed as of now?
Covino
Maybe after this four fight deal, but he's getting paid. So again, a really big 24 hours for Canelo. And LeBron James, he scored 42 points last night, 17 rebounds, eight assists, but his body language was like 17 rebounds.
Rich
That is insane.
Covino
He just seemed like rejuvenated. So it just all leads up to this Luca weekend. But now they're saying that's going to happen on Monday.
Rich
Monday against the Jazz.
Covino
But you know, maybe that got him all fired up.
Rich
I mean, he had already kind of been in his own. Because that's the Lakers 10th win in 12 games.
Covino
Yeah, but even 42 points at his age, Right?
Rich
Even before all this went down, they were playing really well together as a team. And last night's win over the warriors, that was without their new center, Williams, who hasn't suited up for them yet, and without Luka.
Covino
And Curry had 37 points, but the Lakers still beat him. Now, in that game, LeBron hit a half court shot, but that's not the half court shot we're going to talk about later on. There's a real controversial half court shot in the news now.
AJ Stephens
We're going to get to Drew Brees in a second, but just want to remind everyone, if you don't know, John Baptiste is going to be doing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. We all know Kendrick Lamar at halftime, but something to look out for while you're setting up the dips and appetizers on Sunday, did you see that Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are doing a pre game event with Fox? Like they're part of the pregame.
Covino
Tom Cruise, the inventor of the hover round?
AJ Stephens
No, not the other Tom Cruise.
Covino
Oh, oh, the actual actor and Brad Pitt.
AJ Stephens
So I don't know what they're gonna.
Danny G
Do, but they do.
AJ Stephens
They just announced that they're gonna be part of it, so look forward to that. But right now, we caught up with them earlier. Honestly, a guy that's so fun to talk to. I think you're gonna enjoy this. From media Row, Covino and Rich, Fox Sports Radio with Drew Brees. Take a listen.
Covino
Hey, it's Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. And we're joined by NFL legend and super bowl champion Drew Brees, everybody.
AJ Stephens
Hey, Drew, you're here with Bounty. You put a big plate of wings in front of me and you expect me to focus on this interview?
Nate Thompson
No, I want you to chow down on these wings and then when you get messy and you're like, man, what do I do to clean this up? I got your bounty fixed right here, man.
AJ Stephens
Got us, man.
Nate Thompson
This is what we cleaned up. Because you can't have football without wings. You can't have wings without bounty.
AJ Stephens
Well, let me start before we talk football. And also all the fun stuff. Blue cheese or ranch? This is like the debate that never goes away.
Nate Thompson
So I think if you were asking like an OG Buffalo wing dude, which Rob Gronkowski.
Covino
Gronkow.
Nate Thompson
And he's, he's the bounty man. He asked me to be his wingman in this is, I think he would say blue cheese.
AJ Stephens
I'm a blue cheese guy myself. I feel you.
Nate Thompson
Yeah. But I'm dairy free, so I stay.
AJ Stephens
Away from the way when you say Gronky. I mean, you had some great tight ends, Jimmy Groen, Graham in his prime and everything, but I mean, would have been fun to play with Gronk.
Nate Thompson
Oh, Gronk's a monster. I don't think you realize how big that dude is.
AJ Stephens
Yeah, he's hilarious too. He's, he's everything.
Nate Thompson
Oh, yeah, yeah. Like, like, I, I, I get it. You know, he's, he's like his person. Here's the thing. Like, he's so much fun to be around. Like, like, you know those dudes that just, they're just having more fun than everybody else.
AJ Stephens
That's great.
Nate Thompson
Like, just like, can we inject that? Like, is that injectable? You know, some people are so subdued.
AJ Stephens
And he's the complete opposite.
Nate Thompson
No, no.
Covino
Yeah, That' on social media. Like, why is everybody living such a great life? Everyone's having so much fun. That's Gronk, right? Why is he having so much fun? What is it?
Nate Thompson
That is. Although he was asked today because we were doing a bunch of stuff together. They were like, you know, where. When's the Gronk beach bash? That happens at every Super Bowl. He's like, you know, I've outgrown that.
AJ Stephens
I've outgrown that.
Nate Thompson
I've turned the page to a newer. A newer Gronk.
AJ Stephens
A mature Gronk. He only crushes three beer cans a night on his head.
Nate Thompson
But then he goes, no, we've actually moved it to April 20th at WrestleMania. All we've done is just postpone.
AJ Stephens
Hey, Drew Brees, hanging with Kavino and Rich. I think Super Bowls. I happen to be at the one that you won. And I remember it was the first Super Bowl I attended. And, you know, you with your son and the headphones. Is it a lasting image? And now I think back, I had to look at it before you got here. Your son's like a grown man.
Nate Thompson
He's 16 years old, man.
AJ Stephens
He's a grown boy.
Nate Thompson
Dude trying to get his driver's license.
AJ Stephens
Is that wild to you? Looking back, like, that might be the coolest father son picture. I got to figure out how to do that. My kid one day.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
AJ Stephens
Can't replicate that.
Nate Thompson
You know, it was. It's crazy because obviously, as a kid, you know, I was a sports junkie. You know, I wanted to be a professional athlete, actually want to be a professional baseball player. Football wasn't really on the radar, but once I was kind of on this football path, and I just envisioned, like, you know, what's the. What's the ultimate goal here? What's the ultimate prize? Winning the super bowl and. Yeah, the Lombardi Trophy. But, like, honestly, I just had this image in my mind of if I ever get a chance to be up there, like, I hope that I have a son that I'm able to share that moment with.
AJ Stephens
You envision that?
Nate Thompson
Sure enough, all of a sudden, it's like Simba manifestation of just, you know, here it is, you know? And so, honestly, it was like time stood still. It was just. It was the most amazing moment.
Covino
Two questions as he grows up. And, by the way, such an awesome moment. But he's 16. Do you get in the car with him? He must have his permit. Are you frightened by this? And do you get him his first car.
Nate Thompson
Yeah, look, he's, I think every 16 year old boy definitely had like the connections quite, aren't quite all there, you know what I'm saying? Like it's still, you know, like they still do and say stuff where you're.
Covino
Like, what does he have the broccoli head haircut?
Nate Thompson
Oh, for sure.
AJ Stephens
Yeah.
Covino
He's the kind of kid I'm keeping my 15 year old daughter away from. Stay away from the broccoli.
Nate Thompson
There's no question. I got a 10 year old daughter and I'm just.
Justin Pennick
Yeah.
Nate Thompson
But yeah, you know, he's, he's actually been pretty good. Like, not too bad. You know, we learned how to park, you know, in between cars and actually drive next to cars and have awareness with changing lanes.
Covino
So scary, man.
Nate Thompson
Dude, it is. Yeah, it's really scary. I'm not, I'm not really excited about the whole driving thing other than the fact that like finally it's, you don't have to drive them everywhere, you know, Hey, I want to go here. Great, drive yourself there. Yeah, because you're his, right? Yeah, exactly right.
AJ Stephens
I feel like this guy every day, I'm like, where are you? He's like, I'm driving my daughter and it's always just somewhere, like not close.
Covino
Friends and everything else. Yeah, now you're talking about Gronk before and his personality type. You were a great leader, man. Tell us about that. When you deal with all these different age groups and personalities, what was your approach to leadership?
Nate Thompson
Well, it was, it was interesting later in my career because, you know, here I am, call it 37 to 42 years old, right? And just about everybody walking in the locker room is 22, 23, 24 years old, right? So huge generational gap. Like there were moments where I'm in the weight room, like a song comes on the radio or something. I'm like, oh, dude, this was my jam. Like eighth grade middle school. Like you're envisioning like a middle school dance or something, you know, and you're like, ah, this is my jam. And like you see one of the young bucks and you're like, hey man, you remember this song?
AJ Stephens
They're like, I wasn't born.
Covino
Sounds like timing time.
Nate Thompson
Exactly. You know, now my kids call me an unk. Like when I say stuff like that, like, dad, you're such an unk. So anyway, but at the end of the day, like showing these guys that you care about them and showing these guys, man out, like, I want to help you be successful like every at the start of every offseason, I would ask these young guys, I want you to write down three goals for me. Like, I want a professional goal. I want a personal goal. I want a family goal, and I want us to go through those things together. And I want you to know that I'm there to help support you.
Covino
You would actually do that with the young guys?
Nate Thompson
I would write them down for myself, and then I would. It was kind of a vulnerable thing. I'd show you guys, hey, guys, this is what I'm trying to accomplish, man. Y'all hold me accountable, and then they share it to me and, like, okay, I'm gonna hold you accountable. But the end of the day, like, look, every. Every guy who comes in the league has these visions of, man, I'm getting to this. This big, this second contract. Like, I've got these personal goals that I'm trying to achieve, and I always wanted those guys to know, man, I'm right there with you. Like, take your role. Accept your role. It may not be the role that you want right now. This is where you want to be. Here's what you have to do to get there, and I'm going to help you get there every step of the way.
AJ Stephens
That's amazing leadership right there.
Covino
Yeah. And he did it for 20 years, so he had to have a knack of leading all different types of men. And who do you see that leadership in today? Like, who do you admire? Like, that guy. He does it right.
Nate Thompson
You know, it's hard not to admire these young QBs, right, that are coming up right now. In fact, it's. It's. I feel like it's fairly unprecedented where literally, like, let's kind of start with Mahomes class. Hard to believe. He's like the elder statesman right at year, you know, seven as a starter, but. But, like, you just kind of go down the list of guys like Lamar and Josh, right? And then kind of that burrow class, right? And then these six dudes who came out last year, right? And the year Jaden Daniels had and Bo Nix and like, Caleb Williams is getting, you know, Ben Johnson, right? And so, like, you look at this, These. These guys and just going, man, like, the future is so bright for the NFL with all these young QBs, but, like, there's something about Jaden Daniels. Obviously saw him at lsu, actually spent a little time with him at lsu, right when he transferred there. Was really impressed with, like, his poise and composure and just felt like there was, like, a focus and intentionality, and he kind of man, from his junior year to his senior year, man, like, there was just this flip. And as I watched him this year, I watched. If you want to know about a guy, just watch the way guys react towards, you know, like, watch the way the O line reacts when the dude gets knocked down, you know, and if they're running over, like, okay, they love his guy or like, after the game, a touchdown pass or something, man, everybody. So, like, I see these guys and, you know, whatever their style is, just make sure it's authentic. I don't think there's a lot of rah rah guys, but, like, man, sometimes you're fiery. A lot of times you're poisoned, composed. But at the end of the day, like, the more that you care about your guys, man, the more that they're going to want to take care of you.
AJ Stephens
Drew Brees hanging with Kavin on Rich. I just picture the last game you played in. When you looked back out on the field, you took that pause by the tunnel, turned around and looked. Was that. Was that one of the more emotional moments of your life that didn't involve maybe your kids or wife?
Nate Thompson
Yeah. I mean, look, it was obviously, it was. It was tough because, you know, it's Covid and so there's no fans in the. In the stands, you know. Right. So didn't really feel like. Got that great feeling of closure, you know, and obviously you just lost a playoff game and, you know, you. You hoped that you would have kept going further, but yeah, it was just. I kind of knew that, you know, that was probably it. And so just that one last glimpse at what had been home for so long.
AJ Stephens
You ever get the. After you retired, did you ever get the itch? Like, I know I could still do it. Like, when you would see, like, Tom doing it in his 40s, like, I could probably.
Nate Thompson
Dude, I'll be honest with you. If my right shoulder wasn't, you know, I had that really bad injury with the Chargers, and I knew I was on a fast track at that point to, like, early onset arthritis and just a bunch of wear and tear. Right. And the doctor told me that, and he's like, man, you just kind of hang on as long as you can. I used to call it prolong my prime. Like, I'm just going to prolong, prolong, prolong. But, man, the last couple years, I could just feel like, man, it was just a struggle just to kind of throw throughout the week to get to game day. Right? And you function, right? You find ways to survive. And like, man, I couldn't throw it much past like 45 yards. Right. But I'll freaking rip you up inside of 30.
AJ Stephens
I was going to say your football IQ was off the charts too, but.
Nate Thompson
That'S what I'm saying is like your, Your mental, your. Your knowledge, experience, wisdom is at an all time high. But the physical skills start to diminish. Like if I could throw the ball like my body I could play, I could play right now. Right. I could process again. I. The game. Right. But just the right shoulder doesn't. Now maybe he's a lefty. Like if the. If, if the field, maybe flag football. Olympic, Louisiana. 20, 28.
AJ Stephens
There you go.
Nate Thompson
Left hand.
Covino
Nice.
Nate Thompson
I'm gonna give it a go.
AJ Stephens
I know you got to run Bounty. Any. Anything you got to let us know about what's doing here.
Nate Thompson
Yeah, you know, football, wings, wings. Bounty. Like everybody's getting together on Super Bowl Sunday. Like whipping up the chili and the dogs and the, you know, cheese dip and, you know, the blue cheese. What do you need, you know, and what do you need to clean up? You need bounty.
Covino
My mom always at me for using too much of the paper towels.
AJ Stephens
Can I wasted them.
Covino
Can I use as many as I want or.
Nate Thompson
Yeah, you can use as many. I mean, like, don't intentionally make a mess, but like when you do, you know, we just, we just soak it up with bounty. Highly absorbent.
Covino
He's a Super bowl champion. Here at super bowl week, NFL legend Drew Brees on the Cavino. Thank you, Drew Show. Thank you.
Nate Thompson
Absolutely. Always a pleasure.
AJ Stephens
I mean, could it be a nicer guy, Danny, than Drew Brees?
Rich
I don't know why so many people hated him when he started, you know, being a broadcaster.
Covino
Well, now that he gave me all those free bounty paper towels, I love the guy. Yeah. But great guest, super nice dude, Drew Brees. And if you missed it earlier, Seal, the artist Seal and Debo Samuel were on the show. We still got Donovan McNabb. Stop.
AJ Stephens
You know, it's funny. You're so right, though. Your mom wasn't the only one. My mom too. You're wasting the paper towels. Like they were gold in my house.
Covino
Yes. Seriously. I guess they were expensive in the 80s. I don't know what it was.
Rich
Still expensive.
Covino
I know.
Rich
But do you know our 14 year old, once in a while at dinner, I'll see her rip like three of them off and just like leave them on the table.
Danny G
And I used one of them.
Covino
I use like. Yeah, right. You know, because I do my mom yelling at me in my mind. But are you gonna try to put.
AJ Stephens
A few rolls in your carry on?
Covino
Absolutely, man. I actually went up to Drew afterward. I'm like, yo, man, you got the hookup or what? So he. He stuck me a few. So thanks again to Drew Brees. Just a really nice dude. And he looks great, by the way. He does look like he could still play. But we gotta talk LeBron James and his college kid. I was talking about next. Next.
AJ Stephens
Perfect.
Covino
Some college kid hit a half court shot in a contest in a promotion, and it got a little controversial. We'll explain.
AJ Stephens
Can't wait. Kavino Rich live from New Orleans super bowl media row.

Bobby Bones
And the heart's a little pink. It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm gonna be honest. It was a little pink.

Thanks again to Drew Brees. He was great. We still got Donovan McNabb on standby. Eagles legend. But real quick, right quick, I told you. LeBron went on off, right. 42 points, 17 rebounds, 8 assists to beat the Golden State Warriors. And Curry had a good game. But one of the most memorable moments was his half court shot. He hit. But there's another half court shot in the news.
AJ Stephens
This story annoys me.
Covino
Yes. Some college kid was at a UMass women's basketball game. Again, I'm going by my boy Jack Mack from barstool, Right. He told this story and I was like, no way. So this college kid was doing this halftime little promotion, right? Right. And the deal was you make a layup. Sweet.
AJ Stephens
I've seen these. Yeah.
Covino
Then you gotta make the free throw. Then you gotta make the three point. Then he goes to make the half court shot for $10,000. Right? $10,000 shot. He heaves it up. Swish. Nothing but the bottom. Exactly. Money. $10,000 until. Hold up.
Danny G
Wait a minute.
Rich
Record scratch.
Covino
Exactly. Exactly. He gets a letter from the school's lawyers. The promotion company, I think it's called Odds on Promotions that handles these sort of things throughout the Nation. And they say, hey, we're not gonna give you the $10,000 you thought you won because your foot was on the line. And it says here in the rules. And it's like, well, what? Officials are studying this tape because you really can't even tell. You just see this kid heave it up. It's so close, right?
AJ Stephens
Not the game. This is a. I get it. Like, some would say, well, rules are rules, but the optics of this $10,000 to a university, to a program is peanuts.
Covino
So now college student UMass apparently isn't paying this kid named Noah, who hit this shot.
Rich
Of course his name is no.
Covino
And apparently they feel bad about it, so they offered him a four person, like, Lowe's suite, a hundred dollars in gift certificates. Oh, $100. Courtside seats for the next. Like, women's.
AJ Stephens
Not to sound like a jerk.
Rich
This getting worse.
AJ Stephens
Was the lead. Four tickets to a women's college basketball game.
Covino
Yeah. Seriously. Sweet.
AJ Stephens
Yeah.
Covino
And if you look at the footage, no one was really at the game.
Nate Thompson
And courtside seats.
Covino
They said, hey, you know what? We feel bad. It implies guilt to me. Like, you know, why would you give him any cons, ancillary prize or consolation prize if he didn't get it? Because they said, look, we'll let you do it again, but next time for $1,000. So odds on Promotions made a public statement saying, hey, look, we stand by our rules and this and that. We've paid over $40 million in contests throughout the nation. So what's another $10,000 is the question.
AJ Stephens
Give this kid the 10 grand.
Covino
Pay him, pay him, pay him.
AJ Stephens
10 grand is a lot to a college kid. It's a lot to a lot of people.
Danny G
But.
AJ Stephens
But this is bunk, this story.
Covino
Yeah. So the Internet's going wild about it, saying, you know, pay this kid.
AJ Stephens
And not only should they pay this kid Covino, like, the consolation prize of the week, know what it reminds me of? Remember the Hornets gave a kid a PS5 and they're like, oh, that was just for show, and they took it away.
Covino
Yeah.
AJ Stephens
Make it right. All right, now listen, the fun continues here. Radio row. Speaking of college, a guy that I went to College with, Donovan McNabb. E. Eagles legend, Q Legends. We caught up with them. Check it out. Live from New Orleans, Covino and Rich.
Covino
It's Covino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. And we're here with NFL legend Philadelphia Eagles legend Donovan McNabb. Yeah.
Danny G
The crowd's going crazy right now.
AJ Stephens
You could say Eagle.
Nate Thompson
Yeah.
AJ Stephens
Syracuse, baby.
Danny G
My freshman year, the Crowd's going crazy, I'll tell you.
Covino
You know what I've been saying for years, just to get at him, I said, didn't Donovan McNabb used to make you do your laundry? Right.
Danny G
Gee, don't do that.
Covino
Used to clean his socks for him, right?
AJ Stephens
Yeah, I used to do his laundry. No. My freshman year at Syracuse, I had the privilege of watching you play in the Dome. And, man, that's a long ass time ago now.
Danny G
Yeah, it is. But you know what? It's funny, because now I've got a kid at Syracuse.
Covino
Wow.
Danny G
And she's a junior senior, she plays basketball. And to go back is kind of like, you know, I always, hey, man, there used to be so and so over here. And she's like, dad, that was back in the 90s.
AJ Stephens
Like, there was Cosmos, and then there was Lucy's and Maggie's and all the. But I'm still mad.
Danny G
Acropolis is gone.
AJ Stephens
Acropolis had a great slice.
Nate Thompson
Yes.
AJ Stephens
The crust had like. Like, almost like a. Like a texture.
Danny G
Well, I don't know, Kind of. It's been. It probably was sitting for about eight hours, but no doubt. Then they put it in the oven.
Nate Thompson
Remember, Chuck?
Danny G
It was absolutely Chucks.
Covino
Well, hold on, I. Can we go back in time? You're here talking Syracuse. What was that like for you? You went to Chucks? You went to all these places. Did you ever pay for a slice of pizza you were denied?
Danny G
Absolutely.
Covino
Really?
Danny G
They made you pay for.
Covino
Tell us what it was like.
Danny G
You ain't walking out with a slice and some wings free over the Acropolis or varsity. Absolutely not.
Covino
Tell us what it was like to be you on that campus, though, Thursday.
Danny G
Night, because we played Saturday. Thursday nights, Monday nights were great nights. Saturday night was an outstanding night during football season, you know, because obviously you're celebrating the win and everyone's enjoying themselves. The fun was always there, even when it snowed. And that's the thing, is when you're playing on the east coast and the snow.
Covino
Yeah.
Danny G
Like, nothing shuts down in Syracuse. No, nothing. It could be 80,000ft of snow. The buses are still going and the bars are still open. Great time.
Covino
Were you able to look back and. Because enough time has passed and say, man, I was the man, dude.
Danny G
No, I was never like that. No.
Covino
Ever? Not even now?
Danny G
Nah, I was never like that. I was all about team. And me and my teammates went out, had a good time when it came to football or basketball, because I played basketball, too. It was just an opportunity to have fun, man. Like, you know what I mean, it's like, oh, the football team's here. Like, it wasn't like, yeah, I'm here. Like, no, I'm not that type of guy.
Covino
I love that, man. I love that. How do you stay humble like that?
Danny G
It's upbringing. It's upbringing. Mom and dad just. We weren't about that. You know, we're all about focusing and zoning in on. On the common goal. And, you know, obviously I was a little rebellious, you know, as most kids are.
Covino
Right.
Danny G
When you get to college, you're away from family. I mean, I'm from Chicago, so that's a long ways away. I looked at it as a long time for my dad to get here if something happens so I can be able to get myself together if something went wrong.
Covino
Now, when you were playing at Syracuse, when you were playing, period, you were in control of the situation for the most part. You're leading a team, right? What's it like when you're watching your daughter play now? Are you just going nuts inside? How. How does that feel?
Danny G
No, it's more joy, really. It's more joy.
Covino
You're able to sit back and relax?
Danny G
Not really, but, you know, because I still have a coach's mentality, and so I'm usually, like, yelling from the stands, I'm that, dad, yo.
AJ Stephens
Can you give me the balance? Because when I get back to Los Angeles tomorrow, I start coaching T ball, and I'm doing my daughter's softball team, too. What's the balance?
Danny G
How old is she?
AJ Stephens
She's seven. I've done it two years in a row, but now they're.
Danny G
I coach softball for seven years.
Nate Thompson
I know.
Danny G
I coached softball for five years.
AJ Stephens
It's hard to. It's hard to be stern with the little girls, though, right?
Danny G
Club.
AJ Stephens
Club. That's next level.
Danny G
I've had middle school girls and the high school girls. I've just recently stepped down from coaching. I started an organization myself. The tough part is when you're coaching, you know, you're trying to develop and you're trying to provide confidence for these kids, and you're giving them great work ethic and passion and trying to bring the best out of them, because the most important thing is you want them to have fun.
AJ Stephens
No doubt.
Danny G
You want them to have fun while they're learning and not to look at it as if it's a job, so to speak. And so when they get older and they start developing and they start to see the results now, it becomes, okay, I really like, like doing this. And so for a coach that's what you want to see. But it's just when you have these older girls, the parents start becoming the problem. Because my daughter, she wants to know what she can do to play more. And, you know, she didn't really pitch as much this tournament, and it's like she gave up seven runs.
AJ Stephens
Yeah. By the way, imagine having to question Donovan McNabb.
Covino
I know. Maybe he knows a little something, but it's still.
Danny G
You know what I mean? It could be that. That they're just like, oh, well, you know, you're. You're. You know, because people start hating. You know, it's like you're a coach. He's a football coach. What does he know about softball? It's like, I play baseball, too. Like.
Covino
Yeah. And by the way, though, imagine.
Danny G
And we're kicking your butt.
Covino
Imagine the pressure the moms are putting on the dads to say something.
AJ Stephens
Say something.
Covino
He's like, that's Donovan McNabb. Chill, Hunter.
Danny G
No, hey, that's Coach, can I talk to you?
Covino
No, I. Back off.
Danny G
That's cool. It's cool. Yeah.
Covino
We good now. You did that for seven years, so obviously, really fulfilling, right?
Danny G
And coach basketball.
Covino
Coach basketball. Post football. What has been the most fulfilling thing for you?
Danny G
Watch my kids grow.
Covino
Really?
Danny G
Watch my kids grow. And when I. When I went into retirement, you know, I told my wife, I was like, I'm gonna be the dude at the diner going to the same diner every day. I know. I know the chef. I know the waitresses. I'm gonna be the guy going to the gym every morning. You know, I had a regiment, and it was like. And I'm gonna be the dad at every game. Like, take my kids to practice, you know, pick them up from practice, be at every game. Because that's the thing is you want to be supportive of your kids because you don't want your kids to look and not see you in the stands. And then it's like, my dad never really came to my games. I made sure that that was never gonna be said.
AJ Stephens
That's amazing. Now, 20 years ago, not to date us, that was the first super bowl we went to as a show.
Covino
Yep.
AJ Stephens
05, Jacksonville, Florida.
Danny G
Damn.
AJ Stephens
You were this close, bro.
Danny G
20 years ago. I mean, to say it. 20 years ago. Wow. Yeah. I mean, but you know what? What? It's kind of. It's one that you could talk about and just understand the journey, but you have to understand the journey. You got to understand the four NFC championships. You got to understand, you know, the ups and downs in the seasons. You got to understand kind of our process and to be able to make it to the Super Bowl. Yes, we were that close of winning and. And, you know, it hurts sometimes when you think about it, but it still shapes our lives, no doubt. Like, would I. Would I go back and change it? I would love to go back in and change and we win. But it really made me who I am today when it comes to me working with my kids and being able to explain, hey, we're high sometimes, and then we have lows. But not everything is going to be perfect. But you have to be able to get back on track, lace up the shoes and get moving forward, because not everything is going to go the right way, the way you expected.
Covino
What was that sting like, that burn like when you lost the Super Bowl? You did a lot of great things that season and your whole career. And the reason I ask that is because, well, the Eagles lost when Jalen hurts, lost one. So he's got to have a certain fire inside now.
Danny G
Well, the thing was, you know, when you do lose the game, in your mind, you're always thinking, we'll be back. And that's kind of something that, okay, next season, then the following season doesn't happen, the following season doesn't happen. And for them at least, we're. Jalen, right now you're back and you're trying to do everything to correct from what happened in that first game so that they won't happen in this particular game.
AJ Stephens
Is it wild for you to see Coach Reed still doing his thing?
Danny G
Yes, it's. It's. It's. You know, I talked to. I talked to Big Red all the time, and I'm just like, listen, man, like, you have had the privilege of having a guy at the face of the franchise carry you for. For over a decade and be able to collect win after win after win. And he's like, yeah, I've coached two hall of Fame quarterbacks.
AJ Stephens
It's amazing.
Danny G
And I go, well, Alex Smith had a great year, like, he had a great career. And he goes, no, you are my first hall of Fame quarterback. You were my first quarterback that I drafted. He had never been a head coach, got the position, all time winning as head coach in Eagles history and all time winning as head coach in Kansas City.
Covino
Hey, as a veteran now, who's been there and done all that, do you reach out to these young quarterbacks ever?
Danny G
I do.
Covino
You do?
Danny G
I do.
Covino
Text message, call.
Danny G
I talked to Patrick. Talk to Patrick, talk to Jayden Daniels. I've been talking to Jaden Daniels since he was at Arizona State.
AJ Stephens
I feel like a lot of people have been talking about Jaden Daniels maturity and how this kid gets it.
Danny G
But see, this is the thing about the NFL. You want to get a guy who is mature and has games under his belt. He's been a starter for four years and that says a lot. Yeah, four year starter and like these guys, sometimes it's like one year, two year starter, you know, sat then all of a sudden became the starter and then he blew up and it's like he hasn't had that much game experience. He has game experience. He's been there. He was actually like as a freshman and sophomore, he got bigger, but he still played like he was big. And that's the thing that's key. I wasn't shocked by the way he played this year by any means.
AJ Stephens
Are you torn at all being that Coach Reed's like, you know, one of your probably closest people in the football world, but then you spent the most of your career as an Eagle. Is this like one of those, like, ah. Do you have a.
Danny G
It's a win, win for me. Yeah, it's a win win for me. I want the Eagles to win. But if Andy wins, to be a part of his journey is special. It's special. I mean we're talking possible 3 Pete. We've never seen it happen. And to have the big red guy as the face of it, right? It's unbelievable.
AJ Stephens
Well, Donovan, I want to thank him for being part of my journey.
Nate Thompson
No joke.
AJ Stephens
Like I started my radio world at Z89 Syracuse.
Danny G
Oh, hold, hold it down. Yes.
AJ Stephens
And that's where I started. And I was, you know, know, trying to figure out do I want to do radio while I'm going to the dome to watch you and fast forward 20 plus years later. It's pretty cool to see you here, man.
Danny G
30 years.
AJ Stephens
30.
Covino
That's right. Yeah.
Danny G
Stamp nuts.
Covino
Well, thank you for your time, man, and enjoy this weekend. All your fans are here and we're happy to have you on the show.
Danny G
Oh, man, I appreciate you guys having me, man. Keep it going.
Covino
Thank you.

Covino
17 boards 8 assists to beat the Golden State Warriors. And then leading into this big weekend or Monday with Luca, I mean he looks so energized, rejuvenated. He's playing like he's 20 something years old. Props to LeBron James for being our express pros Pro of the week again. We're Cavino and Rich. And if you miss Celand, Debo, Drew Brees or Donovan McNabb, be sure to check the podcast. Thanks again to them for stopping by. Thanks you. Thank you guys for hanging out with us.
AJ Stephens
And more importantly, check all the videos on the fox Sports Radio YouTube page right now. It is time the football season Camino. 18 weeks of making our picks, predictions, fantasy players. The playoffs comes down to one game. 60 Minutes Sunday, Super Bowl 59. How does it go down? Your final choice?
Danny G
You hear that?
Rich
NFL Films music in the background. All right, fired up Sam.
Covino
I think it continues to be the year of the running back and Saquon is the difference. And a close one. The Eagles break it up with a win 34, 31 over the Chiefs. Eagles played spoiler to Brady. I think they play spoiler to Chiefs 3 peating and they stop history. Look, all week long we've talked to professional athletes all week long long and everybody says don't bet against Mahomes, don't bet against Mahomes. But we kept asking, well, how do you stop Barkley? Even the pros didn't have an answer to that. Cuz nobody has an answer to that. So until you tell me, you know there's a way to stop this guy, I don't know how you do it. I think he's the difference.
AJ Stephens
All right, well listen, I, I have the same pick as you, but let me explain, okay? I got the Eagles 31, 3000, 126 Eagles. I'm still picking under on Saquon Barkley. Under 110 and a half. I think turnovers will be the difference. The ball always bounces the way of the Kansas City Chiefs. That changes this Sunday. If Tom Brady couldn't do three in a row, Joe Montana got close. Guess what happened in Montana's third try. A fumble against the Giants in 1990, which led them to the Super Bowl. And that was the year The Niners were 14 and 2. So if Joe Montana, Joe Cool couldn't do it, Tom Brady couldn't do it. Yo, pump the brakes. I Love Mahomes. Eagles 31 26. I'm looking for a big game from jalen. Hurts hitting A.J. brown, Devonte Smith and our dude Dallas Goddard. I think it's. I think it's gonna be a good one.
Rich
That surprises me. I thought you were gonna go Chiefs. All right, here's Dan Byers. Before I get to mine, he left his prediction with me. He's got Eagles beating the Chiefs 33. Hold on, on, hold on. That's a drop. That's an audio drop from Sam scaring us on the side.
Covino
Hold on, hold on, hold on.
Rich
Buyer has the Eagles 33, the Chiefs 27. Great job. All right, all right. Great job.
Nate Thompson
Why don't we use these more?
Rich
I know this week we've heard a lot about the Chiefs defense versus Saquon, but the key to this game is going to be the Eagles defense keeping Mahomes on the sideline just long enough to play keep away at the end of the game. In the final minute, the refs help KC get in position for a potential tying field goal, but it bangs off the upright of the Eagles hoist the Lombardi 27 to 24.
AJ Stephens
Harrison Butler has to get in the kitchen.
Covino
Yeah. Hey, so far, all Eagles. Yes.
Rich
All right. And now we go to Spotty man.
AJ Stephens
Four of us.
Nate Thompson
I'm not choosing the either team. I'm choosing the Elgs.
Covino
What is that?
Nate Thompson
Whatever.
Rich
No, I. I'm going with the Birds on this one.
Nate Thompson
I. I feel.
Rich
I don't know.
AJ Stephens
I. I'm not just playing bandwagon.
Rich
I feel like I feel it in.
Covino
My heart of hearts, and that's how I choose games. Because it really comes down to.
Nate Thompson
At this elite level at the.
AJ Stephens
In the super bowl, it could be anyone's game, and I feel like it's.
Covino
Leaning towards the Eagles score wise.
Rich
I'm feeling 35 Eagles. Okay, let's go with 27 Chiefs. All right, let's go to Sherman Oaks, California. Moni, what say you before we go to Monsieur?
AJ Stephens
Vegas has it Chiefs minus one. So this is by far. This is a pick em, essentially.
Covino
It really is.
AJ Stephens
And the fact that it's 50 right now. Moncy is clean sweep or you going Chiefs.
Covino
No, no, no. You guys keep talking about what's gonna. What are they gonna do with Saquon Barkley? Steve Spagnolo is gonna know what to do. You guys keep me mentioning Patrick Mahomes alongside Tom Brady.
Julie Stewart-Banks
He didn't do it.
Danny G
It.
Covino
Spagnolo is going to figure it out. I'm taking the Chiefs to win it, 27 to 24. Okay.
Danny G
All right.
Rich
And now let's go to Bersch back at the studio.
AJ Stephens
Burch, thanks for all your help this week, buddy. Oh, of course.
Covino
Of course.
AJ Stephens
It's been a. It's been a great time. Now, here are my thoughts on what will happen. You can't keep getting away with it, stupid.
Covino
You can't keep getting away with it.
AJ Stephens
Yeah, but they can. The Chiefs are going to win this game. You can't just keep picking against the Chiefs because they will continue to prove you wrong. They will keep getting away with it, but they won't top 30 points because they don't do that. 29, 24. Chiefs win this one.
Rich
All right. Instead of Iowa. Sam, We've been calling him now for a few weeks. Cheesesteak Sammy.
AJ Stephens
Cheesesteak Sammy.
Rich
I think we. I think we know which way you're leaning, buddy.
AJ Stephens
Well, I blurted this out on the Doug Golly Show. I didn't really put any thought into this score, so I took the East Eagles to win 34 to 20. I don't actually think it'll be that big of a gap there, but I did. I did pick that. The Eagles to win 34 to 20 on the Doug Golly show, so I gotta stick with it. Eagles 34, 20. Kansas City.
Rich
And we appreciate all of the staff back home in Sherman Oaks. Thank you guys for helping there all week.
Covino
And real surprising picks, man. Only two people chose the Chiefs.
AJ Stephens
Yeah. Oh, is Kendrick Lamar gonna say the pedophile Drake line or you think they're gonna beep it?
Covino
I think they're gonna beep it. Lawyers. Lawyers always win. It's. It's the NFL. It's family friendly. Why take that chance?
AJ Stephens
Okay.
Covino
You know, on the biggest stage possible. No way.
AJ Stephens
All right, what are you gonna watch on the way home now?
Covino
Dexter? Original sin.
AJ Stephens
Okay. Are you gonna change it. Are you gonna change it to sweatpants for the flight?
Covino
Probably, but I gotta. They're on the top of my seat suitcase. Yeah, me too.
AJ Stephens
You don't do the same thing. I don't want to wrinkle my nice Travis jacket.
Covino
We got comfy clothes on standby for the flight, and we'll see you guys back in Los Angeles. But enjoy the Super Bowl. Enjoy friends and family. Enjoy those chicken wings.
AJ Stephens
Can't give an update. Can I give an update? My wife and dips. My wife bought a smoker.
Danny G
