Steve Cavino
All right, so a big, big day. Your franchise stars could change tonight, but people are idiots who you get.
Rich Davis
People are idiots though, because I was watching a lot of funny videos earlier today where Chiefs fans like Mahomes. Why him? There's great clips if you look hard enough where all Buffalo Bills fans are like Josh Allen. We wanted Josh Rose.
Steve Cavino
Josh Wrong. Josh. Sure for sure.
Rich Davis
People are bird brains. But hey, NFL draft is really fun. Regardless, I do have to ask Steve Cavino, being that you are half vato, half Guido. If you were a player getting drafted tonight, how flashy would you be? Like, what would you be rocking? What would be? What would be your drip, as the kids say?
Steve Cavino
I mean, you gotta wear lots of chains. That's just it. Even with your suit, you just gotta let them hang.
Danny G
And what would your walkout song be? We saw the official list.
Steve Cavino
Oh, it's probably like, we want the funk. I don't gotta have that funk. Something, like, to make a statement. I don't know. Something. Something that Slick would walk out to. What did Slick walk out to?
Rich Davis
Oh, Jive soul, bro.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, something like that. Or maybe some Rage against the Machine.
Rich Davis
I don't know. Groove line. Great disco song.
Steve Cavino
Ladrones. They're a cool Mexican rock band.
Rich Davis
I was gonna say if you're.
Danny G
It's Raining Men.
Rich Davis
If you're some, like.
Steve Cavino
No, you know what? Return of the Mac. I'll go old school.
Danny G
All right. That'd be a good one.
Steve Cavino
Because you feel like the Mac. You feel like the man. I'd have a sweet lining in my suit jacket. I'd be real flashy. I'd be selling watches.
Danny G
Cam Ward's walkout song is Freestyle by Rod Wave.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Cavino
No, I don't know, man. It's a great question. What would you walk out to? You don't want to seem dated. You're asking a guy, you know, who listens to hard rock of the 90s and the zeros and old school hip hop. So, yeah, I'd want to come out to some biggie or some rage. But today, in today's world, I don't know. What would you. Pony Club.
Rich Davis
Pink Pony Club.
Steve Cavino
How dare you love that song.
Rich Davis
I do like that song, but I wouldn't come out to that. I think. What if you went actually wrestling style and they call your name with the eighth pick, you know, the 49ers take Rich Davis, and also, I come out like Stone Cold.
Steve Cavino
Do you know what? I'm not going to.
Rich Davis
Actually.
Steve Cavino
I will debate that, because if you want to play that game, I would say Mr. Perfect Steam, because it's so majestic. You know what I mean? All right, something like that. But, hey, we're going to see some memorable moments tonight.
Rich Davis
We.
Steve Cavino
NFL draft Thursday. It's sort of a holiday.
Rich Davis
We've been talking, Vito, about how the draft has only amped up in the last, you know, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years. Like, the draft is abnormally a scene. And Danny G. Pointed out, not only do the guys have, you know, their jewelry, their sweet suits, a lot of guys that know what team they're going to might actually have a color scheme that matches the team. Like, Cam Ward may have some Titan colors with his pocket square or tie. Who knows? But now you add theme songs to the mix.
Steve Cavino
Theme songs, and we're going to see a major production and you're going to get extensive coverage here on FOX Sports Radio. But tomorrow when we come back to talk about it, I will be talking about just the observations of how massive it appeared, the production value, the inside of people's living rooms, and the girlfriend's reactions.
Rich Davis
Listen, I know it's going to be.
Steve Cavino
A lot of fun things to watch tonight.
Rich Davis
I'm, I'm not, you know, I'm not Zoolander or Mugatu or Hansel. I'm no fashionista.
Steve Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
But I'm just looking at the TVs in the background.
Steve Cavino
Yeah. Some guy's probably gonna have a top hat on and we're gonna have fun making fun of it.
Rich Davis
No, no, no. Adam Schefter.
Steve Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
I think he, he believes he's Andrew Whitworth. He's wearing a hoodie.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, it's bizarre.
Rich Davis
Like under the sports coat, but over the tie and suit. I know it's Green Bay, Wisconsin, but it's outside when you're watching.
Danny G
Right.
Rich Davis
It's a very, I'll give him credit for trying, but I don't think I've ever seen a guy wear a hoodie in between the sports coat and the tie.
Steve Cavino
All right, well, these are the observations you'll get from us tomorrow and more.
Danny G
Remember that time McKinley walked out with a big framed photo of his grandma?
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G
That was awesome.
Rich Davis
You know, I can't wait. And I don't know what pick it's going to be, but there will be one overly ambitious girlfriend that's in the shot that's a little huggy, kissy, sort of like, you know, marking her territory like, this is my man. And my favorite is the CD lamb clip from a couple years ago where the girlfriend was like looking at his phone and he was aggravated. And in that moment, in that moment, you knew, this ain't gonna work.
Steve Cavino
No, that's not the best one. The best one. I can't remember who it was, but it was when the mom pulled the girlfriend out of the shot. She basically pulled her by the hair, like, get out of my shot. The mom pulled her off. Do you remember that?
Rich Davis
Of course I do.
Steve Cavino
What was that, though? I forgot.
Rich Davis
It was, it was, it wasn't someone that you remember, but yeah, it was, of course, Russell Wilson's ex.
Danny G
Yeah. One of the best still shots of all time. That and of course, Brett Favre in his jean shorts.
Steve Cavino
So, again, yeah, lots of memorable moments tonight for sure, and we look forward to talking about it. Enjoy your NFL draft Thursday and Speaking of, we do this every Thursday here on the Covino and Rich show. Old school and 50 hits. When 50 hits on the clock, we get into it. And because of the draft process and the interviewing process, which is part of it.
Rich Davis
It's a big part of it.
Steve Cavino
We said in honor of draft Day, what was your worst job interview ever? Well, when you have any stories, when.
Rich Davis
You talk about the interview, isn't that sort of dictating the Shador Sanders storyline? Right. Like some team said, well, he came in too, way too cocky. And other people said, I love a guy with, at that age, the confidence to think that he could change a franchise.
Steve Cavino
Like, determines, you know, you see what goes on on the field. But they want what type of guy he is off the field and will he fit into that, that team, into that franchise, into that future. So the interview process is a big part of it. Big deal.
Rich Davis
Have you ever heard someone give you tips on job interviews, like what to do? Have you ever heard anything.
Steve Cavino
Always make eye contact.
Rich Davis
Have you ever seen.
Steve Cavino
Ask them questions.
Rich Davis
Have you ever heard the theory of mimic what they do?
Steve Cavino
Yeah, the body language.
Rich Davis
Like if they, if they have their leg folded, you have your leg folded. Apparently, whatever they're doing, if they lean closer to you, you lean closer to them.
Steve Cavino
There are tricks.
Rich Davis
Apparently there's like a subconscious. Like if you're doing what they're doing.
Steve Cavino
I'll tell you what, I used to interview people to give them their start in radio, right? Interns, part time, things like that. I used to interview people all the time. And here's a little trick that always worked on me. When people were excited to be there, seemed excited, complimented what I was doing, like, man, what you're doing is the coolest thing ever. And I just want to be a part of that. It always made me, the interviewer, feel good about what I'm doing. So it made me like them more. So like, yeah, this guy, he made me feel cool. I like him.
Danny G
You're hired.
Rich Davis
There. There's something about, there's tricks there.
Danny G
I. Danny, Jake, do you have any questions for me? Yeah, you get that during the interview. Yeah.
Steve Cavino
But if you leave as the interviewer, if you leave feeling that that person made you feel good, that does work. It really does. It works to their advantage because it shows you like that they wanted to be there because they envy what you do and they feel great about it.
Danny G
If you research him or her, Covino, whoever's interviewing you and their company, that way you're knowledgeable. Right. Too many kids nowadays do not Take the time to find out what they're even stepping into.
Steve Cavino
Bam. Have a slight general knowledge about the person interviewing. Interviewing. Use history. Danny Rich takes a lot of pride.
Rich Davis
It's the. It's the Rich Davis.
Steve Cavino
It really is.
Rich Davis
Anytime we've ever had a meeting with anyone, I know where they grew up. I know a college they went to. I know if they have kids, how old their kids are, what teams they root for. You go into an interview, it's called.
Steve Cavino
A Google search, or just check their.
Rich Davis
Social LinkedIn or whatever. I think being overly prepared for a job interview is. Could what may get you the job.
Steve Cavino
But, Danny, you would think those things are obvious, and they're not.
Danny G
No, they're not. Big. Big Mike, who kind of runs this place. Yeah, he does somebody say who for?
Steve Cavino
Me never heard of him.
Danny G
Who? He told. He told us a story about how he interviewed somebody. I think it was last year, and he asked them how much they listened to the network, and they told him they've never listened.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, you got to fix the phone or.
Danny G
Or spend a week prior to your interview. You know, when your interview date is. How about you listen around the clock prior to your interview?
Rich Davis
We interviewed people.
Danny G
They told him. Yeah, I'm not much of a sports person. What?
Rich Davis
I've interviewed people at back in the day at Sirius XM when we were there, and they came in like. Yeah, I don't really know. What is it? Cyrus Radio trying to get a job here. And you're. What are you, dingbat? So another thing before we take the sad stories of your terrible job interviews. 87799 on Fox and we'll talk more. NFL draft. Obviously, it's draft night. I am a firm believer in what Cavino said, and I'll back it up by saying, make the person that's interviewing you feel cool. Feel cool. We would have people remember interns back in the day.
Steve Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
I missed the days of having someone help out for free.
Steve Cavino
Well, then they demanded being paid.
Rich Davis
Yeah, but it makes sense. They deserve it.
Steve Cavino
No, they didn't.
Rich Davis
No one should work for free.
Steve Cavino
Well, I did. It's called you got college credit.
Rich Davis
Yeah, but still, you should not. Anyway, whatever. I remember saying, I really don't care about your resume. We would always have an intern sit in for, like, 20 minutes on the show to see what we're doing. I was judging them based on their body language. If they were following along with the conversation, chuckling, laughing, smiling versus someone could be super qualified. But if they sat there, like, the whole time, I was like, yeah, we can't hire that person. They're going to give me bad vibes.
Steve Cavino
So we're giving you advice. You know, it's part of the process of the NFL draft. You have to present well, you do. You have to show that you want to be a part of this team, part of this organization, whatever it may be.
Rich Davis
All right, so with that said, again.
Steve Cavino
Major part of it. Based on that, your worst interview experiences. I got two stories.
Rich Davis
With that said, though, how do you think this plays into the Shador Sanders thing? Because we heard the mixed messages of some saying, wow, way too cocky. This guy comes in here saying that I'm going to change the franchise. And then other people look at that and say, wow, that's the kind of leadership I want. Do you think that is more of a pro or con? If you look at 32 teams, what percentage do you think? Think that's a. Think that's a good thing? And would you think it's a good thing?
Steve Cavino
Do you have a bunch of veteran leaders there already where it's going to rub them the wrong way? Do you have a young team that needs leadership? And if you have a young team that needs leadership, he might be that guy you need, and therefore you appreciate the swag and confidence that he comes with. So, again, it's case by case. I do appreciate it if we're in need for it. So I got two stories. One I mentioned. Not too long ago, Rich and I were up for a morning show gig in New York City, big time, major opportunity. And he was a new program director at the time. And he hit us off with the weirdest question. And based on the question, really determined the vibe and outcome of the interview.
Rich Davis
Station got taken off the air in a year and we would have lost our job.
Steve Cavino
But, yeah, so it worked out to our benefit. But he's like, oh, you guys are living in LA now, huh? La. You guys are west coast guys. Well, you want to come back to New York? I got one question for you. Like, all right. He goes, it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, but I swear to God.
Rich Davis
Camino thinks this played a factor.
Steve Cavino
This played a major factor. He goes, do you like Cholula or Tapatio? He's like, you're Mexican, right? I said, we have part. He's like, so is it Cholula or Tapatio? And I didn't know what to say. I'm like, oh, no, what do I say?
Rich Davis
They're both good. I buy both of them.
Steve Cavino
I said, and I worked at Bennigan's years ago.
Rich Davis
Right.
Steve Cavino
And we served Cholula. So I've always liked Cholula.
Rich Davis
Cholula is me.
Steve Cavino
Slightly better than sorry I said Cholula. You know what this guy said?
Rich Davis
Wrong answer. And you know what?
Steve Cavino
The interview was all downhill after that, and he basically walked us out. We never heard back from the guy. If I said, we may have gotten. We may have got the gig.
Rich Davis
I, I, I think that story has gotten out of hand. I think it's gotten out of hand in your own mind.
Steve Cavino
But I'm telling you, I felt like I lost the, the million dollar question.
Danny G
That actually saved you in the, in the long run.
Steve Cavino
In the long run.
Rich Davis
I do think, however, that there, there are times where I think that answer might be to decide if you are decisive. Like, if you. I can't decide. That's the wrong answer.
Steve Cavino
No, but if I said Tapatio, the guy would have got out of his seat, high five me. And now we're best friends, and we're vibing in a totally different way. He made me feel like a loser.
Rich Davis
Hold on. You're leaving out, like, Tabasco and crystal and, like, Louisiana hot sauce.
Steve Cavino
He didn't give me those options.
Rich Davis
Right.
Steve Cavino
I, I didn't. You know, that's all it was. That was the weirdest thing.
Rich Davis
I can't tell you. A question like that in an interview would make a guy like, I was Sam's head spin off. I know. Like, I would love all those, but I was Sam. I can only. I can't pick one.
Steve Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Why not Both. Yeah, you should say why not both?
Danny G
Corn and flower.
Rich Davis
You see one of those, like, in a movie or TV show where someone's like, the next words out of your mouth better be like yes or no. Sam would be like, but what about.
Steve Cavino
Like, the interview process? All right. Indecisive. Get out of here. All right. Now, the other story is this. And I think there's a lot of people nationwide that might remember something similar. Similar. Okay. Oh, man. I thought of another one. I got two, but I'll give you one. Remember when we were all looking for that summer job before we kicked into career mode? You're looking for a summer job on every telephone poll growing up, it was like, if you want to make 30 to 60 thousand dollars in the summer, call this number. And you ripped a little tag off. I actually did that. And I ended up, you know, getting an interview, and I was so pumped about it, and I put my oversized suit on. I was like, oh, I'm going to go There.
Danny G
And.
Steve Cavino
And I sat in this crappy office with wood panels and crappy awards all over the place. And like, yeah, you seem like the guy kind of guy we need. You're a go getter. He's like, you're hired. I'm like, hired to do what? And he's like, come back tomorrow. I'm like, all right, I guess I got a job. I came home all proud of my parents. I got a job making 60,000 in a summer. I went back, you got a job, man. They're like, come back tomorrow. Came back the next day like, all right, well, here's these knives. And they start cutting work boots. And they're like. They're called Cutco knives. And you're gonna go door to door and sell these knives, but you gotta pay for all these knives. Like, what?
Rich Davis
I'm not.
Steve Cavino
I'm selling knives. I don't want this stupid job. I wasted two days on this. So that's another one. And how many of us fell into some sort of pyramid scheme thing or. What was the name of that company that they tried to get you to work for when you were in college? All the time. It was those pyramid scheme things.
Rich Davis
Get a couple people to sign up. Yeah.
Steve Cavino
I was like, nah. But that happened to everybody. Everybody, because I guess we're all vulnerable. Trying to make a.
Rich Davis
Does everyone have one friend in high school or college that sold knives? My parents owned a set of knives because they felt bad. My buddy Jeffco.
Steve Cavino
And by the way, I hear they're great. But I wasn't trying to cut a work boot or a penny just to make some money during my summer.
Danny G
I have a high school friend who still does that. And on his Facebook page, he's always bragging about all the trips he's taken and everything. He calls himself the knife king, dude. See, now I feel like I blew it, I swear.
Rich Davis
You know what? You could have been knife king. You could have been a lot of things. Camino, you've watched late night television. There's like, cutlery corner that always comes on. Like, it's like paid programming and some guy's, like, cutting through all these different things. Why do I need to cut through a work boot? I'm not gonna eat a work boot, bro.
Steve Cavino
What was that Ponzi scheme?
Danny G
You haven't tasted my cooking.
Steve Cavino
That went on in our college days. Everyone was trying to get you in. It had like, a binder full of this guy and you work for this guy. And I feel like there's a lot.
Rich Davis
Of young women selling, like, Herbal supplements or something. I feel like there's a lot of young women that sell, like, makeup products, like y old co workers like bamboozle Kavino, and they go, I'll buy from my girlfriend. Don't you still buy products from this woman?
Steve Cavino
Yeah, yeah.
Rich Davis
That's every month.
Danny G
Herbal life was a big one.
Rich Davis
Herbalife was. Yeah.
Danny G
Yep.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, but again, it's part of, like, you're being duped during this interview and you think your life's gonna change. So weird interview moments. As a guy who did interviews. Right. I'll never forget this. And it's just a weird thing. It goes back to what Rich was saying before. It's a body language thing, right? It's like, how. How bad do you want to be here? To me, if you're in an interview and if Shador Sanders is interviewing with the Giants or whoever, dude, he takes his jacket off, he sits there real eager and excited about it. He's like, yeah, tell me more about the giants. I want to be here and play for the Giants. You got to show some sort of enthusiasm, right? I remember interviewing a guy, and Rich knows the story. He kept his coat on the whole time. He kept his scarf on.
Rich Davis
The whole, like, the whole city look like he had a stiff neck.
Steve Cavino
So he looked like he was Bobby the brain Heenan with. And it wasn't like. It wasn't a stylish scarf. It was like a bundled up scarf up to his neck, up to his chin. And the whole time he's like this.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Cavino
Like, all stiff. And I'm like, can this guy relax? To me, it showed he didn't want to be here. And I'm like, yeah, you're not getting the job.
Danny G
Speaking of not wanting to be there, I have audio. This came to mind when we were brainstorming this topic this morning. I was thinking of the two of you in the same room interviewing with somebody together at the same time. And this came to mind right here. Listen.
Rich Davis
Well, Brennan, you certainly have had a lot of jobs. I'm a bit of a spark plug.
Steve Cavino
And human resources lady.
Rich Davis
It's actually, it's. I'm sorry. Well, Pan. No, my name is Pam. Are you saying Pan or Pam? I'm saying Pam, Yeah. I'm sorry, who's this gentleman sitting behind you? Hello, miss lady. I'm Dale. I'm Brennan's stepbrother. And I think I might be able to help with a Pan Pam dilemma.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, that'd be great. Pam, Pam, Pam.
Rich Davis
Pam with an M with a D on the end. There's no. D. It's Pam. It's like calm. It's P, P, A, N, M, M2M. That was the case. No, there's just one M. You know.
Steve Cavino
What that reminds me of?
Rich Davis
It reminds me that I have to watch Step Brothers. I haven't watched it in years. I'm overdue.
Danny G
Such a classic.
Steve Cavino
And by the way, don't you wish you could watch the interview process, like, sometimes to see how and why things maybe didn't pan out, pan down?
Rich Davis
I think this is key in there.
Steve Cavino
If anything, if you get anything from the stupid spin we're putting on this, guys, it's the importance of the interview process. You could be the greatest athlete in the world, but maybe you were just a terrible interview. And again, if you're going to be the face of a. Of a team or a franchise, you got to be able to represent, man. You have to have some sort of ability to represent and interview and present in a. In a good way.
Rich Davis
I'll compare it to something else very important in life. I. Because of what we do in the nature of us just, you know, having the ability to chat. It's like a first date.
Steve Cavino
I was always a good.
Rich Davis
I was always a tremendous first date. Maybe a terrible second date and a terrible third date and so on. But for. It's like a first date. A job interview is a first date.
Steve Cavino
Leaving a good impression. And, you know, maybe that's. Maybe there's more reason, more than meets the eye as to why certain things didn't happen. A lot of these players, like, oh, why didn't he go there? Why didn't they get him? Maybe he was a terrible first date. You know, so these are things we never truly really know the details of. But worst interview stories just know that.
Rich Davis
If your team chooses someone peculiar or they pass on someone, it left a good impression. It could very well be that or bad. During. During a very important time during the combine, during the interviews, that this player rubs someone the wrong way. There could be someone super talented that you're like, yeah, I'm. I'm not feeling this person. Now there's a test that I think I was Sam would pass because I know he is a man of integrity. Would you say I was Samuel Are?
Steve Cavino
I mean, he's definitely a man.
Danny G
A man of many things.
Steve Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
Board op producer, I.A. sam. He can't pick just one. I saw there's a few executives that said they do something called the coffee cup test, and I feel like you would pass this. What they do is they interview someone. It's morning usually. So they'll, they almost like insist upon like, yeah, let's go to the kitchen and get a coffee and you know, whatever the company has, like, oh, someone brought in donuts, you go in for the interview and the whole test is really, do you clean up after yourself?
Steve Cavino
Are you the.
Rich Davis
A hole that's like that you leave the empty coffee cup in the boss's office? No, like, are you the person that's like, I'll throw it out. Let me get yours too. Like, it's almost a test. It's almost like the shopping cart test. Like, you return your cart. If someone offered you Covino, we went out with a big executive and they offered your cup of coffee and you left. But you left your empty dirty cup of coffee on their desk.
Steve Cavino
Well, if you don't think that people in charge who are in charge of making these, these important decisions aren't taking note of that, I think everybody's wrong. You know, they're trying to see what type of man you are in this situation, what type of leader are you, what kind of example are you going to set and be.
Rich Davis
I remember, I'm never going to remember. So maybe it's worthless to bring up, but there was a draft story where someone went out, it might have been a free, free agent acquisition and someone was rubbed the wrong way by the player not making eye contact with the server or like talking down to the bus boy.
Steve Cavino
Yeah.
Rich Davis
To the point where it was a free agency or draft or something. And it, it blew. They were like, we don't, we don't want them anymore. We don't want them. Like they got the. From a dinner. Yeah, they assessed like.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, but. Yeah, doesn't it make sense? Don't you make those assessments?
Rich Davis
If I did, if I was on a date with a woman that talked down to a server, it's over.
Steve Cavino
So imagine, you imagine if you were investing millions and millions of dollars.
Rich Davis
One day's fun.
Steve Cavino

Rich Davis
Of as far as I know.
Steve Cavino
You know what their slogan Is, by the way, I love it. Their slogan, when you put it on, something happens. I'm still waiting to see what that is, but we'll find out. Wow. And, yeah, and that's Rich Davis. But right now, because of the draft day importance.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Cavino
I think we often rely primarily on, well, what happens on the field, but what happens off the field is really important. And that's the interviewing process. What type of man are they? What type of person are they?
Rich Davis
Well, that's.
Steve Cavino
Are they a great leader? Do people respect them? Do they present well?
Rich Davis
Forget the draft. It also applies to free agency in sports more than ever.
Steve Cavino
Teams are first dates. That's just life. But it's uberly important when you got millions of dollars invested in something.
Rich Davis
I think free agency is interesting because that's a two sided debate. That's a. That's a two sided interview. The teams are assessing the guy and the guy is assessing the team. So you got both sides of the coin. Now, Danny, you said you had a funny hypothetical from a job interview you were on.
Danny G
Yeah. I wonder how you guys would have handled it. It was my very first radio interview at a commercial radio station. I was in high school, so I'm so excited to get this interview. Guy calls me in. He's the afternoon drive DJ of the station and the program director. So he interviews me during his shift while he's on the air. And some of it I think he was showing off while he was on the microphone. So I'm standing there watching him and he's. You could tell he had a pack of cigarettes. He was one of those dudes to smoke, to get the nice radio voice. And he's like, KMI X. And he's on the mic, doing the whole thing. Turns the mic off, turns swivels his chair around. He's like, so that's how it's done. And he's showing me the equipment, how it's done, how it's done. He's showing me the equipment. And he shows me how he queued up the next song. So he goes to commercial break after that song. He walks out. He tells me, I'll be right back. I'm gonna take a quick smoke break. So I'm in there by myself, and I'm a teenager. I'm looking around in the studio like, man, this is amazing in here. The commercials are going. Commercials. He's not back. So I'm sticking my head out into the hallway, like, where is this guy?
Rich Davis
Where's the pony?
Danny G
He does not come back. The last commercial stops there's dead air. And I'm like, what do I. So I went. I hit the. The button to play the little announcement for the name of the station, and I started the song the way I saw him do it. He calmly comes walking back in a minute later, and he says, not bad. Could have been a little tighter, though.
Rich Davis
You passed the test.
Danny G
Yeah.
Steve Cavino
That's risky move.
Danny G
For reals, right? Afternoon drive on a big radio station scared the living.
Steve Cavino
You know what out of me, especially for a high school kid, you don't know what to do in that situation. Man, that was a solid move.
Rich Davis
You know, I. I once had a boss when I first started radio, it was a very casual interview. He said to me, all right, before I hire you, just gotta promise me you won't sleep with anyone in the studio. True. Say he said that. I go, yeah, yeah. He goes, I. You look me in the eyes and say it. And I had to tell him, HR violation. Well, I mean, it was a different time, Sam. It was the, you know, 2000s. It wasn't the 20s. They're all my ex girlfriends, so don't.
Danny G
Sleep with any of them.
Rich Davis
He goes, listen, listen, you can't. He didn't. He didn't use the word sleep with. He was a little more vulgar. You're not going to blank any girls in the studio, right?
Steve Cavino
Make whoopee.
Rich Davis
He said, make whoopi.
Steve Cavino
Yes. Wow. So what year was this wrapping it up?
Rich Davis
Oh, two.
Steve Cavino
With your phone calls. Worst interview story or just funny interview story. 87799 on Fox. We got Kent in Maine.
Rich Davis
Hey, Kent.
Steve Cavino
Kent, you're on the show.
F
Hey, how's it going, gentlemen?
Rich Davis
What's up, buddy? Hey.
F
So first, I don't know if you were referring to this a little while ago, but I know when I was in college, there was like, this college painting company scheme that was always going around trying to get a bunch of people to, like, put together these painting crews for, like, painting houses over the summer. And that was kind of like one of those pyramid scheme type things.
Steve Cavino
You know what I was thinking of, man? And thanks for calling. And it's. It. It's all the same sort of thing. You're all excited about this opportunity, and you. You sit through this boring interview process and you think you're going somewhere, and then you realize it's some sort of Ponzi scheme or whatever. Amway was one of them. Amway. And what was the other one, Rich, that Jaime hit us up with?
Rich Davis
Oh, hold on. Our buddy, Primerica Prime. Yeah. Yeah.
Steve Cavino
So, yeah, it was all these things, you're like, oh, man, you're gonna make a million bucks.
Rich Davis
I. I applied once for topless maids, and they were like, we only want women. Sorry. So.
Steve Cavino
Thank you, buddy. Let's go to Jordan in Toronto.
F
Hey, what's up, guys?
Steve Cavino
Hey, buddy.
F
So I'm in my very young 20s, is a couple years after 9 11, and I'm working at a rent a car company call center, and I got, like, a, you know, nice red Mohawk, you know, really, really riding high off the 90s, but in a really crappy work workplace.
Rich Davis
Yes.
F
And I had had an interview to become a supervisor there, and I would have been 15, 20 years younger than most of them there. And the manager's like, do you think I'm seriously gonna hire someone who looks like you? Like, how can I take you seriously? Like, how can you motivate people to work here and get them to do their jobs? And I was like, because people want money. Like, no one's waking up in the morning, going to school, saying, oh, I can't wait to work in this call center for the rest of my life.
Rich Davis
You know?
Steve Cavino
Vince McMahon would have hired you to be the Red Rooster.
Rich Davis
Yeah. There you go. Thank you, Camino. You saved that red Mohawk.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, man.
Rich Davis
And then when the call center didn't work out, I became a wrestler.
Steve Cavino
That's a story. But thank you. Who else?
Rich Davis
We appreciate the feedback, even. Even if storytelling is not your thing. All right, Dave and Rogan. What's up, Dave?
Steve Cavino
Hey, Dave.
Danny G
Why not Sense?
Steve Cavino
How you doing, boy?
F
Hey, man, I got a different take. Here's the one where the interview went well, but then when you showed up.
Rich Davis
For the job, which was a great.
F
Company, all of a sudden you're going, man, I don't want to do this.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, that's the word.
Rich Davis
Yeah, I felt that way. That's how I got into radio. I interviewed for, like, to work at a PR firm, not Puerto Rican public relations. And I remember being like, everyone's wearing a suit, and it's, like, very, like, I don't know, businessy. And then I went to a radio station. It seemed like everyone was having fun, and that's. You know, I remember being like, yeah, I'm gonna leave this job now. Radio's calling. All right, Monsi, let's go to you for an update. Monty, by the way, do you have any fun interview stories? Where is everyone? Like, oh, she's a delight. Hire her on the spot.
Danny G
Yeah.
G
When I was 18, I was interviewing for my first job to be working at BJ's. Restaurants. You know, like, I just graduated, never had a job, and then the guy literally flirted with me, thought I was cute, and I got a serving job with no experience.
Rich Davis
Yeah, you know what?
G
No experience.
Rich Davis
You know what, Monsi? I don't blame you. Cause when you worked at restaurants, you know what guys always thought? They told guys, you can't be a waiter yet you have no experience. But there would always be a cute girl that started and immediately a waitress. And that was you.
G
Yeah, that was me. And I was like, hey, listen, I'd rather make tips right away than be a host. So I'll take it. I'll take it. All right, guys, we're gonna start in the NBA because it was just announced that Cavaliers Evan Mobley has won the 2024, 2025 NBA Defensive Player of the year. No, Draymond Green. Evan Mobley has won it. Other NBA news here. Kobe Bryant's Lakers debut jersey, the first one he ever wore. He wore it for media day. He wore the first one sold for $7 million at Soda Buys. The jersey was actually sold at an auction in 2012 for only 13,000. Now, $7 million, that's pretty impressive. It is pretty impressive.
Steve Cavino
150,000 to 7 million.
G
Yeah, right. Like about 13 years after the fact. Not too shabby. One game going on in baseball right now. Royals, Rockies. It's their second of the double header. Royals are up 2 0, top of the fifth inning. The Giants just topped the Brewers 6 to 5. Now, for over 40 years, Tire Rack has been helping customers find the right tires for how, what and where they drive ship fast and free. Backed by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tire rack.com. the tire bind should be the draft. About an hour and 20 minutes away. Ashton Genty is wearing bedazzled Crocs. I feel like I could see one of you wearing that. Absolutely.
Steve Cavino
Yeah. Rich.
Danny G
That's rich. All day.
G
Yeah, I can see you wearing that. Travis Hunter is wearing a hot pink blazer. I love it. Also, apparently Roger Goodell has three cards for Travis Hunter. One as a wide receiver, one as a defensive back, and one for both. And it depends, whoever drafts him will decide what card Roger Goodell is gonna read.
Steve Cavino
Oh, wow.
G
So he has three cards right now. Lastly, Shadore Sanders has pick a card, any card. Yeah, Shadore Sanders has a custom room for the draft tonight. You can see it on the Colorado Buffaloes, Instagram or other social media. But he has a custom room and one of them has all the hats for the teams. So whatever team picks them, you can just grab the hat. But a custom made room for tonight's NFL draft which is at 8 Eastern.
Steve Cavino
He could have had a green screen. He could have been in outer space if he wanted to be.
G
Does he seem like a green screen type?
Steve Cavino
I mean but he could have been and saved a lot of money. Imagine that.
Rich Davis
Be the first person drafted in outer space.
G
Oh no, he doesn't want that.
Rich Davis
Back to you guys.
Steve Cavino
Thank you, Jess.
Rich Davis
All right, Monsie, have a great draft night.
Steve Cavino
You too.
G
Go Clippers.
Steve Cavino
Did you see Jackson dart? I think he was on Saturn.
G
Too bad.
Rich Davis
Here I am poolside again.
Steve Cavino
A lot of the players decided to not go to Green Bay and decided to stay home. So we're going to see a lot of that.
Rich Davis
Now listen, Danny G. One of the many Raiders fans that I've talked to today that say they are scared that for the second year in a row who they have their eyes set on going to get swooped out right from under them. Last year it was oh, Michael Penix Jr. Will drop to the Raiders.
Danny G
Wrong, damn you Falcons. But the negative turned into a positive with Bowers falling into their life.
Rich Davis
Of course, I mean you got Brock Bowers but now a lot of Raiders fans are like oh man, you'll get the running game. Will get Genty.
Danny G
I've been asking for genty since December on our network because the the Raiders missed Josh Jacobs so badly last year. But now the news of the Jags wanting to make a splash and an impact player. Who are they talking about? Come on.
Rich Davis
And you know what the Raiders even put out on social media like the the wide eye emoji like oh well, we'll talk a little draft as we are an hour and 15 minutes away. More Kavino and Rich next ready to.
Steve Cavino

Steve Cavino
Yeah, buddy.
Rich Davis
Hour and nine minutes from the NFL draft. And I know Danny said Raiders won Genti the same way last year. They wanted Michael Penix Jr. You know.
Steve Cavino
I have a clear visual of Danny G, like cheering about Penix Jr. Like, gotta get. I feel like you wrapped up the show like a year ago today.
Danny G
I did.
Steve Cavino
Like Pennix. Yeah.
Danny G
Let's go, Penix Jr. Let's go, Penn.
Steve Cavino
Yes.
Danny G
Yes.
Steve Cavino
As I remember when it didn't happen, I felt so disappointed for you.
Rich Davis
But they got Brock Bowers, right? So, you know, that worked out just as good, but you know, better. It's, it is interesting because there's always a couple surprises. Draft night genty is who you want. A lot of speculation that the Patriots are going to try to make a splash or Jacksonville or one of the teams earlier than the Raiders. But we shall see. I, I look at it this way. If you're a GM or an owner of a team or the coach, do you feel like, you know how they always say what is a co. What is a boss's worst job? And our bosses said it to us, firing somebody. Firing someone's the worst. Especially when it's not firing.
Steve Cavino
When it's a, it's a happy and proud moment when you, when you get to sign somebody and hire them and welcome them, it's a great moment. But the hard part is letting them go.
Rich Davis
The hard part is a coach or GM bringing someone in saying, hey, we're gonna have to let you go or you're sending you down to the minors or hey, in any corporate America job like, hey, we're doing budget cuts. I'm so sorry. We have big bucks.
Steve Cavino
You gotta make those tough decisions.
Rich Davis
So, so what I'm thinking is tonight's the night. That's the opposite. The joy. Imagine you're a gm. I, I'm a Niners fan. You don't think John lynch and Kyle Shanahan, they have such pride and joy in saying, hello, yeah, 49ers want you.
Steve Cavino
Like you're making, you're making dreams come true.
Rich Davis
You know, as corny as that sounds, 32 times each round. That's 32 individuals whose lives are forever changed and their proudest moment, the GM who has to do all the dirty work, the criticism from the fans and, you know, let players go make difficult cuts. This is a, a night of honestly, all joy. 32 names are going to be called tonight. That's 32 families that have forever changed. And that's 32 calls from a GM where he actually feels good about it.
Steve Cavino
And you're going to hear it all go down here on Fox Sports Radio. And I really think, you know, Giants have the third overall pick in the draft. I think they're going to be the story. Have you heard stories be the big story.
Rich Davis
Have you heard stories of players that are going to get drafted, Their friends playing terrible pranks on them, like calling them from unknown numbers on draft night? That's the worst.
Steve Cavino
Yeah, that's the worst.
Rich Davis
That's like next level pranks at all. All right, have a great night. Enjoy the draft. Over promised. Coming up in a few minutes with KFC from Barstool a must. Listen, we'll see you tomorrow. Arriba Dare Chi, baby.
Steve Cavino
See you in the over promised land.

Podcast Summary: The Herd with Colin Cowherd
Episode: Hour 2 - Interviews That Didn't "Pam" Out
Release Date: April 24, 2025
In this engaging episode of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," hosted by iHeartPodcasts and The Volume, the discussion centers around the significance of interviews in the context of the NFL Draft. The hosts delve into various aspects of the draft process, emphasizing how interviews can make or break a player's prospects.
The hosts kick off by highlighting how the NFL Draft has transformed over the decades into a highly orchestrated and media-rich event. They discuss the increased production value and the elaborate preparations teams now undertake to present their prospects.
Rich Davis [04:44]: "We've been talking, Vito, about how the draft has only amped up in the last, you know, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years."
A significant portion of the conversation revolves around players' personal styles during the draft and how these choices reflect their personalities and the image they wish to project.
Steve Cavino [02:34]: "I mean, you gotta wear lots of chains. That's just it. Even with your suit, you just gotta let them hang."
The hosts humorously speculate about their own hypothetical draft day appearances, discussing walkout songs and attire that would make a statement.
Rich Davis [02:40]: "People are idiots though, because I was watching a lot of funny videos earlier today where Chiefs fans like Mahomes. Why him?"
The core of the episode focuses on how interview performance can influence a player's draft position. The hosts compare job interviews to first dates, stressing that making a good first impression is vital.
Steve Cavino [07:07]: "Make the person that's interviewing you feel cool. Feel cool. We would have people remember interns back in the day."
Rich Davis expands on this analogy, likening the interview process to a first date where both sides assess compatibility.
Rich Davis [20:38]: "It's like a first date. A job interview is a first date."
The hosts share personal stories of disastrous interview experiences, providing listeners with relatable and often humorous insights into what not to do during an interview.
Steve Cavino's Story [13:15]:
Recounting an interview where he was asked to choose between two hot sauces, leading to an awkward and unsuccessful outcome.
Steve Cavino [13:15]: "He goes, do you like Cholula or Tapatio? I said Cholula. Wrong answer."
Danny G's Encounter [28:35]:
Describing an on-air interview gone wrong when the interviewer unexpectedly left, leaving him to handle the situation solo.
Danny G [28:35]: "He does not come back. The last commercial stops there's dead air."
Listener Call-in: Kent from Maine [30:04]:
Sharing experiences with pyramid schemes masquerading as job opportunities, highlighting the importance of discerning genuine offers from scams.
Kent [30:08]: "There was like, this college painting company scheme that was always going around."
The discussion shifts to actionable advice on how to ace interviews, drawing parallels between sports interviews and job interviews in the corporate world.
Steve Cavino [07:15]: "Always make eye contact. Ask them questions."
Rich Davis [09:28]: "Anytime we've ever had a meeting with anyone, I know where they grew up. I know a college they went to."
They emphasize the importance of preparation, understanding the interviewer, and exhibiting enthusiasm and positive body language.
Throughout the episode, listeners are invited to share their own interview stories, creating an interactive and community-driven atmosphere.
Steve Cavino [30:04]: "We got Kent in Maine."
Listeners recount both successful and failed interviews, providing a diverse range of experiences that underscore the episode's central theme.
Wrapping up, the hosts reflect on how interviews extend beyond the NFL Draft, affecting various aspects of life and career development. They reiterate the importance of presenting oneself well in any interview scenario to achieve desired outcomes.
Rich Davis [22:40]: "You're making dreams come true."
Steve Cavino [27:05]: "You have to be able to represent and interview and present in a good way."
Key Takeaways:
First Impressions Matter: Whether in sports or corporate settings, how you present yourself during an interview can significantly influence the outcome.
Preparation is Key: Understanding the interviewer, researching the organization, and being ready to showcase both skills and personality are crucial steps for success.
Body Language Speaks Volumes: Positive body language, such as maintaining eye contact and mirroring the interviewer's gestures, can create a favorable impression.
Learn from Others' Experiences: Sharing and listening to personal anecdotes about interviews can provide valuable lessons on what to do and what to avoid.
This episode offers a comprehensive exploration of the interview process within the high-stakes environment of the NFL Draft, drawing parallels to everyday job interviews. Through personal stories, practical advice, and engaging discussions, "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" provides listeners with insightful perspectives on making impactful first impressions.
