Are they midweek major? But we're in the middle of a big story today. Does she have shoes? Is it shoeless? Regina Jackson. Regina Jackson happens to be Jaden Daniel's mom. And she is infamous, which is more than famous for sort of being way protective of her son. And that's a good thing, especially in this crazy world we live in of freak offs and debauchery when there's vultures out there, she's protecting her son. That's a great thing. But sometimes it looks a little overboard, if you guys remember. And I was just reminded of this Danny G. When Jaden Daniels was courtside and juju Watkins was sitting there, she was like, nope, sorry.

[Covino]

Listen, Juju Watkins is not some trifling hussy sitting in the lobby of, like, a draft or something.

[Rich]

She likes her. Told her to beat it. She's like, that's my seat. But she's also sort of like, all over her son sometimes, so.

So maybe she hangs on his shoulder a little bit too much. Almost like his girlfriend.

[Rich]

Or you could say smother.

She's not necessarily his mother. His smother.

I like that. I'll give you an old reference. Yeah, she's like a Beverly Goldberg. Remember the Goldbergs?

Yeah, she was a smother and she was smothering. But she is also his manager, and she's proud of that. But she says something that's interesting, so pay close attention. Jaden Daniels, NFL superstar, is 24 years old. She refers to him as a kid. Now, again, she's coming from a great place, but, you know, he is a professional and he's playing in a men's league. Do you want your mom calling you a kid in front of everybody, too? That's something else that I think is a little interesting. But in reality, do you think he's just a kid? And then we pose the question, well, when are you a man? Absolutely.

[Covino]

Yeah. Like Rocky Balboa.

[Rich]

You're like, yes, Smells mainly.

[Covino]

When are you a man? Now, of course, the obvious answer.

[Rich]

Feel like a grown man. Boy, dummies. I don't know if age has anything to do with it.

[Covino]

I'm not saying dummies rudely. I'm just saying, like, you know, the obviously answer is, guys, when he turns 18, he's a man. He could be drafted. He could buy cigarettes. He could do this or that or whatever.

[Rich]

Yeah, that's legally. Legally Schmidt.

[Covino]

But I'm asking, like, when are you a man? And two things come to mind. Regionally, I think this changes a lot. And what type of career path you get into changes this a lot. On the east coast, where we grew up, real estate's expensive. It's not easy to make it on your own. So there's a lot of people whose family have the mentality of. And a lot of immigrant families. Like, you're always welcome here. You could be here as long as you want until you get your feet on the ground. And there's plenty of people that live at home. A lot of Italian families into their 20s.

[Rich]

Yeah.

[Covino]

In fact, not to call you out, but Covino's mom did his laundry until he was 28.

[Rich]

I mean, that's a lie. But I was living there, Tom.

[Covino]

So 27.

[Rich]

Yeah. I mean, give me a little credit.

[Covino]

I bought my first home when I was 27, so I was living at home. And to prove it again, you know the Fusco show on iHeartRadio, of course.

Yeah.

They do their show from their mom's basement.

[Covino]

Okay, Tony, good one.

[Rich]

Tony, you're done. They're Eagles fans in their parents basement doing the show and they're like 65 years old. So, yeah, regionally, culturally, there's differences. When do you become a man? But take a close listen to what Regina Jackson, Jaden Daniels, mom said about her baby boy.

[Covino]

He's a kid. And I don't know why we stopped parenting kids at a certain age. But that's for a later show. The thing is, is he doesn't know what he doesn't know. And he knows football because that's what he's been doing. And he does it very well. And he's been, you know, very acclimated in sports since he was young, but he doesn't know the business world. He doesn't know the predators or the vult that could be out there. And so he feels very comfortable at knowing that not only am I educated and qualified to do it, I'm also his mom. And, you know, the thing is, I think we're changing the narrative that hasn't been out there. So it looks a little different than what people are used to because not only am I, you know, educated on that side, I'm also a certified agent, but I'm also his business manager. So I'm dealing on a day to day basis. Like, we have a marketing team that I hire, but I'm dealing with creative teams because again, it's how I want Jaden to be positioned in the world. I don't want him to be positioned, you know, just to go grab a brand deal for the money. Like I want him to be positioned in the world, you know, for the longevity. So there's a lot of stuff that we don't do because it doesn't align with our brand and what, what he wants to do.

[Rich]

Man.

[Covino]

Very, very loving, yet you could argue overly involved. Mom. I mean Beyonce, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, we've seen pop stars and, and other people have their parents as their manager. And I wish the opposite for Jaden Daniels. But usually those things eventually wear on the relationship. That, that doesn't usually.

[Rich]

She sounds a little Levar ball to me, like a little too involved.

[Covino]

I mean she's a lovely woman. I just feel like, yo, I love my kids and I could see where her mindset's at. My kid is a generational talent. I take care of my kids. It's, you know, it's. I wants to look out for your kid. Wants to do everything right, right?

[Rich]

Yeah, the, the intentions here are beautiful and pure.

Yeah, but, yeah, but rich walking around like Emmy's bodyguard when she's 24, that would be strange.

[Covino]

It would be a bit much if I was, you know, hanging around my daughter. You're right. As like her agent and bodyguard when she was older.

[Rich]

Everybody out there looking out for their kid, you gotta commend that. It's a beautiful thing. That's great. And all my only criticism is this, referring to him as a kid when he's a 24 year old man in a very alpha driven game and world, you think he's a kid still at 24 in the grand scheme of things. But do you want your mom calling you out like that in front of everybody? And then again, we posed the question one more time. So when are you a man? I heard a really morbid thing one time and I think it was a listener of our show that called in one time rich and they said something about they became a man when their parents died because he always felt like he was their kid. And that's a morbid thought, a coming of age sort of reality. Yeah, it's very sad, right? You feel like more of an orphan I think than anything. Little, Little orphan Spotty.

Stop, Einstein. There it is. He's trying to convince Larry that he's an orphan. And Larry's like, you're an old guy. You're an orphan. Okay, little orphan. Funkhouser.

[Rich]

Funkhouser. So again, not to sound morbid or weird, but I remember when a caller said that to us, I was like, yeah, I guess that's pretty wild because you are someone's child, no matter how old you are. And then when they're gone, you're like, well, I guess I'm out here in this mean world all alone. I guess I'm my own man.

But I think this is more of when you're standing on your own two feet for the first time.

[Rich]

No, man, you're a professional dude. Yeah, you're. You're young person in the grand scheme of life, like, but you're, you're on.

[Covino]

Your own out there.

[Rich]

I don't want my mom calling me like her little baby Boise when I'm trying to do a professional radio show.

What do you guys equate to manhood? Like, I think about responsibilities.

[Rich]

Yes.

You know, so the first time, Rich. Yeah. The first time you pay a utility bill. To me, that's when you become an adult.

[Rich]

You may be mentally an idiot, but if you, if you got responsibilities and you're a responsible person with things to pay for.

[Covino]

Yeah.

You're your own man.

[Covino]

I. I had written down that if you're still on your parents cell phone plan or car insurance plan.

[Rich]

Oh, that's a good one.

[Covino]

It's hard to call yourself like, I'm a man. You a man. Your mom pays your state form.

[Rich]

Yeah.

[Covino]

Your dad plays Geico in a. You're on mom's Verizon bill. I think that's.

What if they're still on the plan, Rich. But they sell their parents every month.

[Rich]

Nah, that's get your own.

[Covino]

No. You know, your man. I do that for my mom. My mom's on my plan because I try to be a good son. That's what you know. So I don't think. I think if your parents are paying your bills. I'm not quite sure you have man status yet, but I still got one.

[Rich]

[Covino]

I do want to remind everyone one thing. These kids that we are a little tough on at times. Listen, it's very easy to want to pick on Shador Sanders and some of these young cats out of the draft, they are kids. And I feel that way when you're 20, 21, 22, if you're 40 something, they're half your age. Think of all the living you did in your 20s and 30s to get to 40. Ish. Right? That's a hell of a lot of living and learning.

[Rich]

Yeah. But 21 and 24 are a little different. Jaden Daniels has been in the NFL. These kids coming out of the draft, they're just getting out of school.

[Covino]

Yeah.

[Rich]

So, yeah, there no way are they men. Those. Those are kids.

Covino. I know this doesn't apply to everyone because as we had said, your mom spoiled you for a long time. Still does.

[Rich]

Probably she does.

But the. That wasn't the case. We've talked about this on our show before, that our generation, it was more of a everything revolving around the parents. Pretty much like kids are to be seen and not heard. And. And that changed with our generation. So we should give ourselves props because we have been really good, I think better with children. Right. And so kids now are. They don't want freedom the way we did. We couldn't wait. Most of us couldn't wait to get our own freedom and get out of the house. Kids nowadays, most of them that, that I've seen and in my own house, they are holding on longer.

[Covino]

Yeah.

[Danny G]

They don't want to give their driver's.

[Unknown Host 1]

License until they're like 20.

[Covino]

Yo. It's so funny you would say that. I was itching to get my license in New York. I had mine lickety split at New York at 17. I know it's 16 in a lot of places. I was itching, like the day of my birthday. I was, you know, like, driver's test.

[Rich]

That's when I got my license.

[Covino]

Kids now are like, like, I'll take an Uber and mom or dad will drive me. I'll walk there.

[Rich]

Well, it's. It's so many factors, right? These kids are broke, they can't afford a car. Uber is available. It's a thing. So there's a lot of factors. But I agree with you. Rich and Danny, you're paying your own bills or capable of paying your own bills.

[Covino]

Yeah.

[Rich]

You're your own man. You may be immature.

[Covino]

Most men are, Kimmy. No, there's two types of parents, though. And I think I'm safe in saying this. The type that are like, you're welcome here as long as you want. And then the other parents that are like, you're 18, pay rent or get out the grandma lama ding dong. And you know, I'll be honest. I moved out right after college. But my parents, I could have stayed there and they would have been like, yeah, sure, I have friends that are like, yo, you're out of college, you're paying rent. And other parents, like, we're. You could stay here.

[Rich]

Right? Yeah. You know what? Another nail on the head, because I agree there's two types out there. Luckily I had the latter who allowed me to stay there for way too long and save money to purchase my own home one day, you know, so if you have. All right, how about this? You have the ability to pay for your own home and you're employing your mom. I don't know if you're a kid.

[Covino]

No. Guess what?

[Rich]

You know why your mom has a career and that's not to come down on Regina Jackson.

[Covino]

She's doing a great job because she could throw a tight spiral.

[Rich]

Yeah, we're just speculating on, well, when are you really a man based on what she said? Okay, so you know, we're dissecting her words.

[Covino]

Yeah.

[Rich]

And that's not fair. But if he's employing his mother, I'd say he is not only a man, he's the man.

[Covino]

Hey, Danny, you're a great dad and a great stepdad. You were, you were talking about how your stepsons, you're almost shocked that. What are they, 19 and 20 or 20 and 21?

[Unknown Host 1]

Yeah, 20 and 22.

[Covino]

20 and 22. And you were saying how you're surprised they don't want to like maybe split their own apartment so they can bring girls back and do things they're cool like just living at your place?

[Unknown Host 1]

Yeah. What? The middle son who's 20, he is an Oklahoma Sooner. He just drove home the law. He made the long, what was it, two and a half day drive, whatever, to get home. And he's going to plunk down and be at our place all summer. Now he's going to work part time.

[Rich]

Does he eat? Does he still eat? Gushers.

[Unknown Host 1]

You guys, he was watching NBA playoffs, eating sunflower seeds on the couch last night.

[Rich]

See, I don't know. They're great guys, right? But are they men if they're still living that life?

[Unknown Host 1]

And the thing is, our 22 year old, he's about to graduate from Calu this Friday.

[Rich]

Okay, congrats. Yeah, that's awesome.

[Unknown Host 1]

Awesome. It's awesome. But again, right now he's at the dorms there, he's bringing girls back, he's living the life. They're both gonna hunker down at our place over the summer, though. Cause obviously at graduation Friday, he's out of the dorms.

[Covino]

But my wife raising them always told them, as long as you're in school, you can stay here rent free.

[Rich]

That's a. That's a pretty cool rule, though. Yeah, that's a. I think that's just a parent looking out for their kids.

[Covino]

Now. His sons are gonna take one semester, one class a semester, like, just. Just to be like, what? I'm. I'm a stud.

[Rich]

Danny G. Was like, yeah, that was cool. Until Harry became their stepdad.

[Danny G]

Can I. I think boom.

[Covino]

Like, especially boomer parents.

Maybe Gen X parents. Like, my parents are baby boomers.

[Covino]

And it was a lot easier to.

Buy a house back in the day.

[Covino]

You know how to joke about how.

[Danny G]

Like, houses now are worth, like, half a million to a million dollars.

[Unknown Host 1]

Then boomers got their house, like, in.

[Danny G]

The 1970s for, like $1700 and a bag of rice. So it's like, stay at our home.

[Covino]

Which we paid the mortgage off 25 years ago. We've had this conversation many times in the past. I was saying, but our parents. Generation, like, of a young kid now had my dad's job and my mom worked on. And my mom would take off for a little while when the kids were born and then go back to work. Like, if my family replicated what they did now, no way on planet Earth would they have had a house on Long Island. It's a different time.

[Rich]

So age. Age doesn't have a lot to do with this. It really doesn't, when you think about it. My dad at 21 had his own home and kids, Right? That's when he had me. 21 years old. So was he a man then? Yeah, he had his own home. He had a family. He had his own family. Jaden Daniels, does he have kids? Is he. He doesn't, right?

No.

[Rich]

I have a question.

Are you kidding? His mom won't let him have a real girlfriend.

[Rich]

Won't even let him sit next to Juju.

[Covino]

His mom's. His mom took the door off his room just right. Yeah.

Does he have a sign over his bedroom that says Jaden's room?

[Covino]

Because he's read on a ph. Jaden. I need to know. Hold on.

At 24, a professional with endless means and connections and such a bright future, I'd say Jaden Daniels is a man.

[Covino]

Yeah, he's a man. Danny, I have one question about your sons. 20 and 22, both bright futures. College kids, one graduating when they are home. Are they like, mom, what's for dinner? Do they expect you guys to supply food?

[Unknown Host 1]

Oh, for sure they do, 100%. And it's funny because the 20 year old, yesterday, he asked his mom, he said, what'd you eat for dinner? Did you make something for dinner? They don't say what's for dinner. They just hint around like, okay, you could feed me now. And look, that's fine. If you're at the house and you're at least making an effort to pitch in around the house. And they're good kids. So you have good kids, you're not gonna say, yeah, you gotta get out of here once you turn a certain age. But you're right, rich. I was 18. My mom said, you're not my responsibility anymore. You're now an adult. It's just not like that anymore.

[Rich]

Did you feel like a man, though? Because when I finally got my first home and like officially moved out after college, I went back to my parents, 27, I didn't feel like a man. I felt like a man, boy who had my own bachelor pad.

[Covino]

You were spoiled.

[Rich]

You were. When I became a dad, in my personal reality, when I became a dad, I was faced with real life adult situations. I will give Kavita and say when I became. I didn't become a man till I was 30 something years old.

[Covino]

I'll give Cavino credit.

[Rich]

I'm like, I'm like Pinocchio Cavino. I'm a little wooden boy.

[Covino]

Kavino deserves some credit because while he did live at his parents until. Because, listen, housing in New York and New Jersey, expensive. While he did live at his parents house after college for quite a while, he told he lived in the basement. He told girls that he rents to old people upstairs.

[Rich]

Women, rich women.

[Covino]

I thought that was always your Camino, bring some hot girl home from the club and be like, yeah, don't mind this. I rented this old couple upstairs. So why don't they live in the basement?

[Danny G]

You live upstairs?

[Covino]

Well, don't ask.

Wait, why are you in the pictures with these people?

[Covino]

They're clingy, weird tenants.

That would be my motivation if I was their age. Because I think back to when I had my first apartment. I was 18 at my first radio station job, and I wanted my privacy. I know your character's decapitation is in the first movie, provided you participate or precluded your participation in the sequel. But we all appreciated the fruit basket and hilarious note. So maybe they'll pay tribute to him in Happy Gilmore 2, which is coming out July 25th.

Chiefs are getting what's labeled the full last dance treatment from espn. So during this this week's Disney upfronts, you know where they announce the programming coming out for all the networks. ESPN announced will be releasing a new series called the Kingdom which is a multi part docu series chronicling the 2024 Kansas City Chief season as they try to achieve the their never before seen three peat. So Patrick Mahomes appeared at the announcement talking about how the six episode series will have an unfiltered access into their lives on and off the field.

Showcase the true heart of the city, the team and what it takes to be a member of the Chiefs. No specific people have been listed on the press release as far as who will be involved, but I'm sure it will involve Chelsea and obviously Mahomes and King Jaffrey Swift. All these people. People. So it will be available on ESPN and Disney plus later this year, midweek or Major Mid.

A minor league stadium employee going viral for his bare handed catch. And no, it's not of a baseball. During Sunday night's game of the Kannapolis Cannonballers and the Carolina Mudcats in the bottom of the third, the Cannonballers mascot, which is a dog, ran on the field and popped a squat to relieve himself near home plate. While a stadium employee who was charged with the cleanup ran out to grab the, you know, whatever the pile. And rather than grabbing like a pooper scooper or scooping it up or something, he bare handed it. And there's video. Video went viral of this. The Internet went crazy. Grossed out by what they saw. Someone said, yeah, he barehanded that grounder. Like they need to fire the guy immediately. So hopefully they use this as a way to just get a pooper scooper. Why don't they have one midriff?

I mean, no, just a worst story. It does remind me. It does remind me of that Paul Giamatti scene in billions where he was all arrogant and he made the person pick it up with their hand after their dog.

Well, when he spotted an MJ card, he shared a story about how Jordan once sent him 120 pairs of air Jordans from Jordan himself. He said he always wanted to collect sneakers, but we always had these various deals. Once he didn't have one, reached out to a friend who golfs with Jordan. Jordan found out they're the same size. They're both a size 13. So Jordan was like two days later sent him a bunch of his own Jordans. So 120 pairs of Jordans. Brady was like, I don't know what to do with all these. Thanked Jordan or. Yeah, Brady thanked Jordan, of course. But he said it was just a cool moment to actually receive Jordans directly from Michael Jordan. Midweek or major?

So I think we're getting closer and closer to the eastern and western conference finals being, you know, Knicks pacers, which will be, like you said, historically fun, right?

And then T Wolves thunder and then it's a matter of D word for Anthony Edwards or do you think SGA all along? It's just his to lose.

And if you need a show to Watch. I mentioned this on weekend Hobnobbin. I started watching the four seasons on Netflix. Steve Carell, Tina Fey and Domingo Coleman that honestly, it's really an easy watch when episodes are like 28 minutes. You got me. Because I sometimes you watch like last of us, like hour plus episodes and.

I'm like, oh, when I'm looking for something short to watch, there's something called TikTok. I don't know if you ever check that out. But yeah, that's really easy. Sometimes just easier before you go to bed.
