Just a baseball note, the Yankees, Yankees have a great tradition. It's been a good run, but the franchise is pretty much over. Garrett Cole's out for the season so you can close up shop and John Carlos Stanton has pain in both elbows. So it's, you know, you, if you watch the Dodgers and Yankees in the World Series, the only time you felt like the Yankees could go toe to toe is when Garrett because the Dodgers have more good players. It's not close. Was when Garrett Cole was on the mount. He's done for the season. And I don't know if you've seen this 21 year old like phenom from Japan for the Dodgers, Roki Sasaki. This, this, this pitcher. Holy go. Wow. Wow. Unhittable splitter. That kid is something else.
Rachel Nichols
You're watching spring training.
Colin Cowherd
Absolutely.
Rachel Nichols
I feel like I don't even know you anymore. Magnesium spring training baseball, you're all over the place.
Colin Cowherd
First of all, when you have the greatest roster in the history of a sport in your backyard, that's bold.
Rachel Nichols
Greatest roster in the history of baseball.
Colin Cowherd
Go look at the Dodgers lineup last year the lineup was unbelievable. Now I get this phenom. I get Shohei Otani. They picked up a middle reliever and a Tanner Scott. I think, didn't they get Tanner Scott in the bullpen? Then they add, is it Blake Snell? What, what's the name of the starter pitching? They added another starting pitcher. Sorry, it's, I haven't moved completely in a baseball talk, but their starting staff's incredible. Last year they were relying on bullpen games against the Padres, the Mets and the Yankees. Bullpen games. They were like, we just don't have enough starters. Now they had two high end starters and then Shohei Ohtani is going to pitch and they get Tanner Scott.
Rachel Nichols
So 120, 125 wins.
Colin Cowherd
I don't think they care about the regular season. I'm just saying if you go think about this, the Dodgers won a World Series and they had a bullpen start against the Mets, Padres and Yankees. I don't even know if that's ever happened in the playoff run. And then they added three if you count Ohtani, three high end pitchers to a batting order. That's the best since the 1975 Red.
Rachel Nichols
I don't know. That's what it was. The 27 Yankees, I feel like they're still the gold standard now I'm putting on my Charles Barkley hat. Of course, nobody's as good as those guys.
Colin Cowherd
I'm just, I'm just telling you they're already planning the parade route in Los Angeles. The mayor, Dave Roberts, they're planning the parade.
Rachel Nichols
The Lakers have the route planned, by the way.
Colin Cowherd
And, and they won the World Series in five games. And that, that they want it in five games. And that's with bullpen games. And they've added three high end starters to a. I mean it's the only team where platoon guys can win like National League Divisional Series mvp. Like it's just an insane roster. I had a buddy go to a Dodger game. Buddy, an acquaintance go to a Dodger spring training game. Ticket was $105. I mean when you can charge more for a spring training game than the Cincinnati Reds do for like a down the third baseline seat, like that's the quality of what you have. It's, it is this, this, this phenom, this, this young kid, Sasaki, just go online and in between your ayahuasca pursuit, go look at this kid's stuff. It's incredible. Oh, and here's Schrager on Aaron. Rod, we've talked about Aaron Rodgers. Where Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson apparently, you know, they're, they're up for the Giants Steelers job. This not out of my mouth. Here's Schrager on Aaron's decision timetable.
Rachel Nichols
Rogers, we know is going somewhere and it might not just be a week, it might be two weeks, three weeks, four weeks. If you think you know the answer to what Aaron Rodgers, his timetable is because I've spoken to the sources on both sides and everyone's kind of got that shrug emoji waiting. We're seeing. Give him a space.
Colin Cowherd
Let him decide.
Rachel Nichols
Now, we don't know the numbers, we don't know what's been offered exactly. But we do know there's been contact. Three representatives and both of those teams.
Colin Cowherd
Okay, I just. It's weird. You start putting corporations on hold, I'll get back to you. I've never done that. But I can presume what the answer would be. We're moving on. So that's just crazy. But you know what? I'm not going to pretend I have any magical insight on this. I don't really know. But I just know how big corporations work. Like they want to know at the most important position what's going on. So I'd give them a heads up. Remember this is what happened to Aaron in Green Bay when he went on the IO or the Darkness Retreat. And he came out of the Darkness Retreat and the packers said we're moving on. And he was a little bit surprised. Well, dude, come on, you had all off season. You got to give bosses, especially big corporations, especially when you're a valuable employee at a certain position. Got to give him a heads up and I'll get back to you on that. That never ends well. That never ends well for an employee unless you're like LeBron in his prime. I'll get back to you. That is, you think you're better than us. That's what it's. That's the message it's sending. I'll get back to you. I'd be careful. It's not. You don't own the business. All right, we bring her on. There's a reason. Good, good. Knows her stuff. FOX Sports NBA analyst Rachel Nichols, covering the NBA now for 30 years, is joining us tonight. By the way, Thunder at the Celtics. Now that is probably a preview of the NBA final. Many, I would, many would suggest that. Yeah, could be my take on the Thunder has been. I know they're really good. I think they're Cleveland last year. They need another year to bake. They have a lot of good young players. I don't trust young players on the road in the playoffs. What should we look for tonight in this game?
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah, I mean, I agree with you on that front. I think the Thunder are probably more dangerous than people think they are. But I do always subscribe to the you got to get deep into the playoffs steps and lose before you can win. That being said, they're a great team and tonight I think the biggest swing is going to be injury stuff. So Jayson Tatum is questionable with a knee thing. Got a wonky knee. He didn't play the last game. Kristaps Porzingis has been sick with a mystery illness, which is just so crazy. I mean, you got the best doctors in the world treating these NBA players, especially in Boston. And nobody can figure it out. But Missoula has said that he's pretty close to returning. I don't know if that's going to be tonight, but. And then on the other end of the spectrum, Jalen Williams, we know he's not playing tonight because he didn't even go on the team plane. So he's not in there. And I think that is going to be what makes the difference. If Tatum goes, Jalen Williams isn't there. I think that if Boston can hit its threes better than they did the last time these teams matched up. Because last time Boston was, I don't want to say it, nine of 46 from deep.
Colin Cowherd
Right.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Embarrassing certainly for that team. And if they can do that better and double team Shay, which is something that statistically he's a little bit. That it's a little bit of a hole in his game. A little bit. And if they can do that, then Boston should win. But we'll see.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, the. You know, it's, it's if, if. Let's say you skim the NBA. We all watch the NFL, but every other sport, unless you're a die hard, everybody skim stuff.
Rachel Nichols
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And so everybody knows like, oh, Jimmy Butler went to the warriors with Steph and everybody's like, oh, pretty good team. But if you don't follow the NBA, I tend to follow the Warriors a lot. My buddies are all Warrior fans. I'm on the West Coast. I know Kerr. So when Jonathan Kaminga was healthy and he was averaging 20 a night.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
So they're adding a 20 point a game guy to a team that's 12 one since Butler arrived. I don't know exactly his role, but I almost feel like now the Warrior games count. I can watch them and make something of it.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah, I mean, look, size in the west is a bigger factor than it is in the east right now. And teams that add size, like getting Kuminga back is going. That's going to make a big difference. We'll see, obviously. But if you have a Denver Nuggets team with Nikola Jokic, you want someone like Kaminga in the lineup to match up against him and draw some fouls and things like that. So I think it's a real key playoff thing because when things get deep in the playoffs, that kind of stuff is going to really matter. And it just adds more confidence to Steph and Jimmy because, you know, hey, I got another guy who has my back and we have seen Steph's confidence and just sort of joie de vivre, let's say, rise since the Jimmy trade. And because he just knows he's not the only guy, he doesn't have to do everything anymore and that he. They have hope and they're playing well and that's a dangerous Steph Curry.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. I think whenever you run a business and you acquire somebody, there's always unintended benefits and liabilities. And I don't think even Steve Kerr thought you Steph was going to get 28% better with Jimmy Butler. Right. So I was thinking about this. The advantage to having gray hair is this. I've seen everything three times. Sure. So people forget this. You know this because you're a bit of a historian on all this stuff. So when Michael Jordan left the NBA.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Which time?
Colin Cowherd
Which time? Right, right. But I mean when, when he basically left the Bulls.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Okay.
Colin Cowherd
The league lost 50% of its rating.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
So when you see this downward eight year NBA trajectory, it's been gradual.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
The half America stopped watching a wildly popular league.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And the reason being is they just didn't have the next star. They had Iverson and Marbury and the consumers were like, man, so, so I've seen this happen. I'm old enough to remember. I started watching the NBA in 72, 73 with the Lakers Wilt with a headband, old Wilt, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich. So I remember that the league was sort of dead. It was Knicks, Lakers and a bunch of nonsense. And then here came Julius Irving, here comes Magic bird in the 80s. So what's happened to the league in the last month with Luca to the Lakers and Butler to the Warriors? I don't think anybody understands this. I just saw the Lakers Celtics rating.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Oh my Lord. High, high, high.
Colin Cowherd
Seven year high.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Seven year high. Non Christmas game, non Christmas. This is a little bit of a distinction, but still tremendous, obviously tremendous interest.
Colin Cowherd
Do you think when you go around the league and cover it, do you think the Lakers are surprised just how damn big this is and the league is?
Unnamed NBA Analyst
I don't think they're surprised. I think the Lakers are used to being the draw. I don't think there's anything less than an expectation of being the draw. And they have consistently, especially since LeBron's gotten there, been the draw. But the idea that Luka is there now and that people are just, it's not just his star power. It's that people want to see what this combo can do. They want to see how this team is going to work out. That raises interest. And then look, Lakers, Celtics is a huge bone in NBA rivalry. I mean you talk about Magic Bird, that's how deep this goes. And I just don't think that the collective memory of NBA fans ever forgets that. And you've got two huge markets and a rivalry that's been going on for, you know, 40, 50 years. And that's a recipe for the highest non Christmas day rating in seven years.
Colin Cowherd
Which is just listen, ESPN is Bailing on baseball. I don't get it, but they are. Fox just broke a record this past year. 67% increase. Why? Big stars in the right cities. That's just the reality of our sport. Ohtani with the Angels. Meh. Ohtani with the Dodgers. Game changer for the sport.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Well, look, market size has a lot to do with it because it's how many people are tuning into their TVs. There are a lot more people in Los Angeles and Boston than there are in, say, Oklahoma City. So when those teams are playing well, you have a lot more people tuning in and that rating goes higher. It's not. I mean, it's obviously not rocket science, but it's fun to see it happen.
Colin Cowherd
Also, we'll just throw this out. This is projecting. But there are two other moves that could really help the NBA. Giannis eventually becomes a Knick. That's been rumored for a year.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
And Cooper flag goes to the Bulls.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
So Cooper is a great player for Duke, the biggest domestic brand. Chicago's led the NBA in attendance for four years with a bad product. Yeah, I'm a season ticket holder for the Bulls. It's packed, bad games packed. So my take is we just had the Butler. Luca moves Giannis to the Knicks. Potentially. Potentially. And Cooper flagged the Bulls. That's the next level of. Everything's lined up. Okay. I love Kevin Durant. He can drive me nuts, but I love him. So he's not going to be a Phoenix Sun. Nobody can make a move now. But I just. I want. I want you to start Stern a little bit. Are there leaders in the clubhouse where he may not be the one, but he's the world's best two and takes a team to a title?
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah. I mean, if I were the Knicks, by the way, because I don't know if Giannis is going to be up for trade.
Colin Cowherd
That's right.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
So I wouldn't count that chicken until it hatches. But if I were the Knicks, I would try like hell to get Kevin Durant.
Colin Cowherd
He fits there.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Because he just fits there so well. If I were the Miami Heat, I would try like hell to get Kevin Durant, because they have definite trade possibilities there. If you look at potential trades, and obviously they have been a mess since Jimmy Butler left. And a star like that is someone who. Pat Riley knows a lot about stars, let's just say that is someone who they'd be interested in. And the thing about Kevin is, and we said this when he was younger, that he was going to be able to age in this game. Better than most.
Colin Cowherd
Yes.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Just because of the way he plays and the kind of shooter he is. And it's fun to have said that 10 years ago and now with the age he's at, to see it playing out. His shooting percentages, his three point percentages, they're higher now than they were the season he won mvp. I mean, he's just ageless in this way.
Colin Cowherd
There are people. Whereas Westbrook was hyper athletic, his game didn't age as well. Kevin Durant is. I mean, there's an argument. Take LeBron out. Who doesn't make sense, like Brady doesn't make sense. You can argue if healthy, no player in the league's game ages better than Kevin Durant.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah, 100%.
Colin Cowherd
He can go catch and shoot. If he slows down, I'll just catch and shoot, guy.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah. No, and also, it's funny, I spoke with Kevin the other day about this, is that he's the guy who instantly can do well on any team he goes to.
Colin Cowherd
Absolutely.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
There's usually. Even with the stars, even if it's a good fit, there's usually some adjustment period. Jimmy Butler is another guy like that. As we've seen with the Warriors. Jimmy likes to say, I fit anywhere. Kevin Durant fits anywhere. And it's just instantaneous. The first game he plays, he looks like he's been there forever. So that also means that teams looking to acquire him are going to get a guy they know is going to be good from the start.
Colin Cowherd
You know the other thing that Kevin never gets credit for this. I always say this about presidents. You never get credit for disasters you avoid.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
All right. That you just don't get credit. You stay out of a recession because of a move. Kevin never gets credit for this. He knew that when he was going to the warriors, he was going to catch hell until he left the Warriors. There's a level of courage for him to say, yeah, I know this is going to piss all of you off, and I don't care. And I think eventually, Draymond. It was a lot. I mean, they were. You know, Michael Jordan didn't deal with Twitter and the nastiness. All these athletes now are dealing with a level of scrutiny. Same with our presidents. It's just kind of gross.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
And I find myself, even though he can drive me nuts, I find myself always rooting for Kevin Durant.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, he's liked in the NBA by players.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Absolutely. He is extremely likable. And one of the things that players really respect about him is, you know, that you'll see guys a lot say, I just want to hoop. Right. Kevin means it. He wants to play every day. He wants his game for a game at any time. He loves basketball, and players see that, fans see that, and it just seeps through about, hey, I like this guy.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah, There are certain players in sports I don't root against, but it doesn't break my heart if things don't work out well. Durant's one of those is, though, even though some of his decision making on where he's playing drives me nuts, I'm like, he's so much fun and he's got. I love the fact that he takes shots at people.
Rachel Nichols
Yeah.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
No, it's tremendous. And look, Kevin had his reasons for going to the Nets after Golden State. I respect those reasons. If it were me with my reasons, I would have gone to the Knicks in the first place because I just think the fit there would have been great. I think he would have been the most popular player on earth because it's the biggest market in the NBA and no one loves their team like New York Knicks fans. So I think it would have been a good move for him in many ways. I mean, if he had just gotten that team to a conference finals, people would have just been, oh, my God. Right? So I don't know if the Knicks are going to actually acquire him this summer, but if he did, if they did to me, it would be okay. Finally, he's in the right place.
Colin Cowherd
If you ask players and people you talk to in the league, SGA or Jokic, what are they saying? Privately, they don't want to say it publicly and get in hell. But if you ask people like you do.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Privately, who you got, what do they say?
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Well, it's been interesting. It really is a coin flip.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
And most guys will tell you that. And what I like about this MVP race is that at least so far, we haven't seen some of the tearing down of the other guy and the vitriol that we've seen in past years. I mean, it got pretty bad with Embiid and Jokic, and it got pretty bad with some of these other comparisons. Harden and Westbrook, when they were dueling and going at it very close. This has been a lot of respect from both sides. I think the fans have taken a page from the players who have been so respectful and been respectful themselves on Twitter, on all of the social media channels. So I like that it is a coin flip. People are treating it as such. Shai has a lot going for him Leading the league in scoring. He's the best player on the best team in the West. He is a sensational defender.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
And that team, you know, they look like a lot of trouble. On the other hand, Nikola Jokic, he.
Colin Cowherd
Said, the player in the league, he.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Said the other day, he said, he said, I'm playing the best I've ever played in my career. And for a guy who has won three MVPs, that is a statement. But he is correct. He is. Career highs in scoring, career highs in 3 point percentage, career highs in steals, which has already been a strength of his. And you have to look at the valuable and most valuable and you can say Shai is incredibly valuable to the Thunder, which he is. And when he doesn't play, you can see that. However, the Thunder have a much more complete and talented and deep team around him. When Nikola jokic doesn't play. 20 point difference when he's off the floor. If you compare that to shay, it's about 15 points.
Colin Cowherd
That's. I. That, that I think is the single best argument for Jokic is that OKC is so good defensively, they can win games without him.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Yes.
Colin Cowherd
And like beat decent teams. Denver is unwatchable and awful when Jokic doesn't play well.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Look, Jamal Murray, as we all predicted, has his usual second half of the season rise and he's been playing better. But Aaron Gordon's been out. I mean, Jokic is doing the most. The fact that he's not just averaging a triple double, but scored two triple doubles within one game a week or so ago, I mean, that's. That's incredible. But again, I don't want to disrespect what Shea Gilgeous Alexander has done because, man, he. He looks great out there.
Colin Cowherd
Yeah. Rachel Nichols, great seeing you.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
Great to see you too.

A type of soil in Mississippi called Yazoo Clay. It's thick, burnt orange and it's got a reputation.

It's terrible, terrible dirt.

I was talking about the Dodgers, Yankees and J. Mac was said he didn't recognize me just put this up. This is what I was talk folks. This is historic. Look at the Dodgers starting staff. Yamamoto Sasaki, Snell, Glasgow Glassnow was Tampa's best pitcher two years ago. Dustin May Ohtani. And then if you know spot starter Kershaw, there's never been a starting staff that look. You'd have to go back to the 1970 Baltimore Orioles and forget the fact that Tommy Edmond, who's batting eighth in the lineup, ended up being like, didn't he? Wasn't he MVP of one of the playoff series? I it's, it's. You've never seen anything like this. And the Yankees who got extinguished by the Dodgers in five games were only Competitive when Garrett Cole was out there, that then you felt the series was even outside of that, Dodgers were doing bullpen games in every series in the playoffs. So I just, I don't, I'm, I'm not some baseball guru, right. But that staff guys were hurt, Glasno got hurt, and Dustin May wasn't healthy and Ohtani didn't pitch. And the, the idea that they went and got beyond this, the next phenom Japanese pitcher and in spring, unhittable. So it is, it's fascinating. I, you know, I don't think they care a lot about what happens early. I mean, they've won the division so many times, but if they're healthy and ready to go, I mean, that was the big thing last year is I don't know if they have the arms. And there were a lot of times you doubted do they have the arms? And they still won the World Series in five games. J. Mac with the news. No, no, no. Heard on the news. This is the herd line news.
Rachel Nichols
All right, Colin, let's start with an unbelievable finish in the NBA last night. Tyrese Halliburton had the play of the night, maybe the play of the. The calendar year. Three and a half seconds left in the game. Indiana out of bounds play. Halliburton drills the three from the corner and he's fouled. Pacers shock the bucks. I mean, if you're watching, this was awesome. I mean, what a diagram of a play they ran, a football play where they have three guys sprinting and Halliburton curled around. It was awesome.
Colin Cowherd
You know, we were, we kind of like the Pacers last them coming in. What's going on?
Rachel Nichols
Took a little while to warm up for them. They just didn't start out great and they're starting to find their footing now. Okay, I'm. I'm.
Colin Cowherd
By the way, you had Hal Burton as a first ballot hall of Famer. Where's he at now with still first.
Rachel Nichols
Ballot hall of Fame.
Colin Cowherd
Okay. All right. Last year you had him as you really went.
Rachel Nichols
He was like sga. Last year.
Colin Cowherd
He was, he was very. Everybody likes him as a guy. Yeah, like, he's a real personable guy.
Rachel Nichols
I'm a little nervous if the Knicks have to play the Pacers first round. Pacers are good and deep, man.
Colin Cowherd
They're.
Rachel Nichols
I'm just telling you, they're good. Knicks.
Colin Cowherd
Some of these teams are bizarrely deep. Like Oklahoma City and Boston are like crazy deep.
Rachel Nichols
Yeah. NBA. They've done a good job. The team's at the top building out their Roster. All right, let's move now to the story that you're in love with this Aaron Rodgers situation. So Pete Schrager reported this morning that Rogers could take four, four weeks to decide where to land. The last time Rodgers was available, he followed Brett Favre's footsteps from Green Bay to the Jets. Well, you know where Favre went after the Jets? The Vikings. Well, take a guess what Favre is suggesting Rodgers do next. Colin, Here he is.
Colin Cowherd
By all means, sign them. They got a really good football team. They're loaded at pretty much every position. They made it to the playoffs last year. They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. You know, if you get the opportunity that was, that's a good place to win. Does Favre have carpet in his house? Why is it echoing like that? Dude, let me give you a heads up on the whole podcast thing. Go in a room with carpet.
Rachel Nichols
So, Colin, if people kill Kevin Durant for going to the 73 win warriors who did not win the title, how can they not crush Aaron Rodgers if he basically follows what Brett Favre did? Hey, you went to the. From the packers to the jets and then to the Vikings. I'm gonna do the same thing, Colin. That's way worse than Kevin Durant. I'm sorry, that is.
Colin Cowherd
Aaron is not going to the Vikings.
Rachel Nichols
No, I would say no way.
Colin Cowherd
I don't think Kevin O'Connell wants him. He won't say it publicly at this point. You know, at the end of anybody's career, yours, mine, Aaron, anybody, a politician's career, there are things, you know, moody, kind of committed, off season, wants buddies on the team. Aaron comes with a little bit of Samsonite. There's a little bit of. There's a little bit of. There's a little baggage with it. I think it's. I don't think I'm reaching on this. I think that's just understood. He's going to do, you know, he's going to do things his way. That's fine. But I don't think think Kevin OConnell. I think it's disruptive to some teams. If you're trying to build the culture. The jets found this out last couple years. If you're trying to build a culture, this is why Aaron Glenn said, see you. You need your quarterback to be the most committed player. Not mostly committed.
Rachel Nichols
Didn't he blow off, like, was it otas?
Colin Cowherd
He didn't blow it off, but it's just. He went to Egypt. It wasn't great. You. You could do that if. Stat, you know, If Mahomes said, hey, I'm gonna miss OTAs, okay, Brady missed OTF. But when you're building a culture, like that's what the jets have been doing for two weeks, building a culture, the quarterback has to be the most committed guy, not a mostly committed guy. It's not that hard.
Rachel Nichols
Final story. Colin is interesting NBA story. So the Detroit Pistons are one of the best stories in the league right now. Kate Cunningham's a fire. Pistons are winning. I mean, they won 14 games last year. They're probably going to end up tripling that this year. They are tied with Milwaukee and Indiana for the fourth seed in the East. J.B. bickerstaff is the coach. Shaq would not know that. If you listen to Shaquille O'Neal talk about basketball. Jamie Bickerstaff has completely turned this team around, and it's still toughness. Here he is after yesterday's win over the Wizard.
Colin Cowherd
I mean, we just play with a physical force, and that's our intent. You know, our intent is to be as physical on the offensive end of the floor as we are on the defensive end of the floor and see how many teams can sustain it. You know, we want to put a ton of foul pressure on people. You know, we want to put guys under duress, make people have to help and collapse in the paint. They don't help and collapse. We got guys that are capable of making shots. So our goal is just to try to punish people as best we possibly can and see what team makes the adjustment. I got to give you credit. You always complain about this show, that inside the NBA show because they simultaneously rip the Lakers and the media for only talking about the Lakers. Then they don't know the coach for the pistol. So, I mean, in fairness, I got nothing against those guys. I've defended them. But if you're going to rip the media for only covering the big stories, then you should know the coach of, like Cleveland and Detroit.
Rachel Nichols
Those are kind of basics.
Colin Cowherd
Well, especially when you only cover one league. We cover eight. But when you cover one league and you're banging on the media for only covering the big stories, then you should really be buttoned up on the non traditional big.
Rachel Nichols
And oh, by the way, the NBA, the league pays these guys. They are a paid partner. It's like, hey, man, we're not asking too much. Watch our games, talk about our team.
Colin Cowherd
Well, they were employed by the tnt, not the NBA was.
Rachel Nichols
TNT has a TV deal.
Colin Cowherd
Well, the NFL is a TV deal with Fox. I'm not paid by the NFL.
Rachel Nichols
No, no, no, not at all. But I'm saying, like, they're lead partners, okay? Television partners.
Colin Cowherd
We're league partners with the NFL. We bash it all the time.
Rachel Nichols
We do, but that's different, though. We also talk about NBA baseball. We don't just talk about football. You know, they only talk basketball in that show.
Colin Cowherd
Well, it's a hot job. It is the highest rated show by a lot.
Rachel Nichols
Because they crap on everyone and just take shots at everything.
Colin Cowherd
Well, maybe that should be honest. Maybe, maybe we should just do that. Pivot over to Hater 8 all the time.
Rachel Nichols
I don't consume that. I'm a positive guy. No haterade for me. Too much red 40 in there.
Colin Cowherd
Are you done? Yeah, yeah. JMAC with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by the Herd lie news. We're going to have Albert Brer last hour. There's stuff floating around. It's. So tomorrow and Friday, I'm going to make my first division picks. Now scoff as you may, last year at this time, I pick Washington to be a playoff team and Denver to be the most improved team. So I feel, I feel really good about these picks. Now you got to have at least four new teams. My favorite part of my first predictions for the NFL, I'm not, you know, I'm not doing super bowl bubble or picking a game. I'm picking the division winners and the playoff teams. My favorite part is over the last 30 years, at least four new teams will make the playoffs. And it usually goes up to about six. And so when you eliminate four, five or six playoff teams from last year, fans freak out. But it never repeats. Minimum four new playoff teams. So I have four right now. I think five by tomorrow. I'll be very excited. It's one of my, It's. I'm telling you very. And I count. So what do I count? So I count new coaching staffs and then I wait for free agency to be over. So when those two things are over. Now I've watched Vrabel get hired and Vrabel accumulate free agents. So you've, you've got trades, free agency, new coaches. Then I do a guess, then I do it after the draft. It won't change a ton. But I mean, like, you know, there are teams that, you know, if you get one or two guys, it does. I think it can change a win or two.
Rachel Nichols
But historically, and I need to remind you of this, whoever wins the off season usually does not translate to winning a super.
Colin Cowherd
Well, I don't think that that's true.
Rachel Nichols
Now, the Eagles did get Saquon last year, but like Zach Bond, that was nobody batted an eye, right? He was a special team.
Colin Cowherd
No. And usually winning the off season doesn't matter. Although, you know, Brady to the Bucks and Stafford of the Rams, come on, those are quarterbacks.
Rachel Nichols
But for most of these picks, these free agent moves, it just doesn't matter that much. Now the Patriots have like seven new starters. That could be significant.
Colin Cowherd
Yes. I think this free agent class for New England is probably, I think Vrabel's worth three points. The free agent class is probably worth a point to a point and a half. If they hit on Travis Hunter, is he worth half a point for this team?
Rachel Nichols
What's losing both coordinators in Detroit worth? Minus three wins, I think.
Colin Cowherd
Well, and I also think, I think Chicago is going to be significantly better significant. Now. Now, remember, you bought into all the smoke last year with Chicago.
Rachel Nichols
I did. I did.
Colin Cowherd
Old Uncle Colin had him fourth, so I said they'll be more interesting. But I said they'd win seven to eight games.
Rachel Nichols
I wasn't wrong. I was just early, a year early.
Colin Cowherd

There's a type of soil in Mississippi called Yazoo Clay. It's thick, burnt orange and. And it's got a reputation.
Colin Cowherd
It's terrible, terrible dirt.
Larison Campbell
Yazoo clay eats everything, so things that get buried there tend to stay buried until they're not. In 2012, construction crews at Mississippi's biggest hospital made a shocking discovery.

The UFL is back. Skip Holtz and the Birmingham Stallions are a spring dynasty and now chasing a fourth title, but the rest of the league is coming for the crown. The new season kicks off March 28th on Fox.
Colin Cowherd
You know, you were talking during last segment about, we were talking about with Rachel Nichols, Luka to the Lakers, which is just crazy. So there was always this sense that the worst move in the history of sports is Babe Ruth going Red Sox to the Yankees. And it like there have been bad trades, but literally you can argue the two trades that rival that have both happened in the last calendar year. I mean, Luca to the Lakers is insane. You get the younger, better player in the same conference, like stopping you from potentially getting to the Finals. I mean, to go it's one thing to trade him, but if you, you know, you send him over to the Washington D.C. they're not getting past the Celtics, they're not getting past the Cavs or the Knicks for years. That's a different ball. It's not a good trade, but you're not going to be reminded of it. Like I've always said this, it's one thing to have somebody in your family that you don't like. It's another thing if they move next door. They're doing great and you're not doing well. And they're reminding you every day where they got the Maserati parked in the driveway. So if you're going to make a trade like this and you're the Red Sox, don't let them go to the Yankees. If you're the Mavericks, don't let him go to the rival of the Mavericks, which is everybody's rival in the west, the Lakers. And that's why the Giants thing with Saquon Barkley and I guess, I mean, the idea that is such a bad move that HBO won't even release the video of that Joe Shane, the guy behind me, the GM and the, and the Mara, John Mara moment in the office, they won't let the video out. The Giants are like, no, you're not, you're not letting the video out. So this year, all the NFL teams They. They declined to be on it. That's why they went to Belichick at Carolina. They're like, we're not going on that show. And, you know, there's been tipping points in the history of tv. There's the old Jump the Shark, which is a reference to, like, Happy Days. And I remember the episode Fonzie's water Skiing or something or whatever it is. There is the Tom Cruise on the couch with Oprah. He sort of jumped the shark. And Tom always had great energy, and it went like. He went crazy. And, you know, you don't know where these things come from. I actually think the tipping point with these Access shows is that Joe Shane moment where it's like. And I don't know who has control. Like, once you let HBO film that, I'm not sure who controls it gets out. But it got out and it. What we talked. By the way, I'm not late on this. We said it when we watched it. Oh, that's. That's the worst thing I've ever seen. You know, the media is mostly right predicting the next superstar. The media got it right on Bryce Harper when he was 16. The media got it right on Tiger woods when he was 13. You know, the media got it right on LeBron James, Peyton Manning. The media is also right. You think they're overreacting on the Saquon Barkley move or the Luca move. It's like, yeah, this is bad and this is historic, but it is. It's just crazy that you would let Saquon Barkley go to your rival. And by the way, the minute you let him go to your rival, you know, Howie Roseman just loves rubbing your nose in it. Like, Howie Roseman is the most. Almost borderline. I know guys that know Howie and kind of like him. He's obnoxious. Like, it's just brutal. So we can't. I wanted to. We were going to do a topic on this. We can't show you the video again. So we're going to reenact it for the. Sorry about Radio. You're not going to see the masks. We're going to reenact this if you've never seen it, because I think it's the most important part of a reality show Access piece of video ever. So if you've not seen what happened, I will play John Mara. I own. I own. We're taking word for word how it happened. And J. Mack will be the young, handsome Joe Shane. And we're going exactly off script. Are you ready to go?
Rachel Nichols
Yeah.
Colin Cowherd
Let's rock and roll. So what's the latest on the Saquon thing?
Rachel Nichols
All right, I just got a text that Chicago is driving the price up and Philly is out. I don't know if that's true or not, though. Oh, I'll make a couple calls. I don't even know if that's gonna happen.
Colin Cowherd
I have a tough time sleeping. If Saquon goes to Philadelphia, I'll tell you that. As I've told you, I've been around enough players. He's the most popular player we have by far. All right, There you go. That was pretty impactful. So sorry if you didn't have the video, HBO would not allow us to use the video. It is incredible, though. And the Luca thing, I mean, Jeannie Buss is admitting yesterday, yeah, I had no idea it would be this big. So it's. It's. I was told this. This is something that people in business talk about this all the time, is that once you. Let's say, for instance, you've done well in your life. You and your family have done well in your life. A stockbroker, once you've done well in your life, should be like, the great baseball player Stan Musial. Home run power. But, man, you're going to lead the league in doubles every year. Just hit a bunch of doubles with some home run power. And like, a lot of times in pro sports, just don't make the big mistake. Hit doubles once you get the quarterback, right. Like, I just. Just hit doubles. Just, Just. Just keep the ball in the fairway. Don't double bogey it. Just keep it in the fairway. The Giants and hbo, you know, they are protecting this video like it's. It's government documents. Like, they don't want this thing out because, I mean, I don't root against people. If Joe Shane doesn't make it, that's why you kind of hope the Giants make it for. To me, so it saves the guy's job. I don't want to see people being unemployed for life. There is no GM school. If you butcher the first run at it, you don't get a second run. Most of the time. Quarterbacks do. Players do. Coaches do. Coaches get three chances. A GM butchers it and, like, something hangs. Like, Nico Harrison is not getting another GM job. If he gets fired by the Mavericks, he's not getting another one. Joe Shane is not getting another one. I mean, Jeannie Buss has been in the Lakers ownership group forever. She can't even believe how big and impactful The Luca deal was we were not looking to trade Anthony Davis. Dallas contacted us. It was a deal that both sides wanted to make. I didn't anticipate the global impact it would have.
Rachel Nichols
I mean, I knew it was going to be a big story in the.
Colin Cowherd
NBA, but he really is a global superstar. And I always said this about the Giants thing. The minute John Mara said, I'm going to have a tough time sleeping if Saquon goes to Philadelphia, I'll tell you that, okay? The minute he said that, that would be my boss coming to me. And there's a huge. It's a Monday after the NFL and Fox has its greatest rating ever on a game. And my boss coming to me and saying, you know, I'm going to have a tough time. You leading with hockey on Monday's opening segment. I'll tell you that. You know what? You don't lead with hockey. Okay. When your boss says, I'm going to have tough time sleeping if that guy goes to Philly, you sign him. You just.
Unnamed NBA Analyst
You.
Colin Cowherd
You literally bring in the department. You bring in the account accountant, and you're like, okay, we're going to sign him. I'm not letting him go. I'm signing him. So, I mean, that's just not. That is not reading the room. The owner told you because the camera was on, and the owner knew it. So he's not going to drop an F bomb. You know, he's not going to be incendiary. He's just going to. John Marr is smart enough to know the camera's on. I'm going to protect my butt. And he said, boy, I'm going to have a hard time if you don't. If he goes to Philadelphia, what he was telling you was, he better not go to Philadelphia. And here's Howie Roseman over in the corner. If I had a Howie Roseman mask, that's what Howie Roseman's doing. You know, he's gonna rub your nose. That's how he does. So. All right, two. Two hours flown by. Albert Brear is gonna stop by. And you know, the other thing I'm on, the Aaron Rogers thing and the Russell Wilson. So essentially, if you're the Steelers, would you. Would you wait for Aaron or just say, hell with it, I'm signing Russell. If you had the choice now, like.
Rachel Nichols
It sounds like they don't want Russell Wilson.
Colin Cowherd
Well, obviously, or they'd sign him. So my take is. But would you want to wait for Aaron when, you know, he could sign somewhere else?
Rachel Nichols
Where else? Giants.
Colin Cowherd
Well, what what if Aaron and Russell both sign somewhere else? What do the Steelers do?
Rachel Nichols
You go for Kirk Cousins. Once the Falcons release him, you're not gonna have a backup making like 35 million a year.
Colin Cowherd
All right, it's. It's a tough spot. They're kind of at Aaron's discretion. I From what we can tell, Pittsburgh's just waiting for hour three live in la. Coming up next, some people just know.
