What up? Welcome in. This is the Herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening to us on this Thursday. Welcome in. Colin is off back next week and we got a lot to get to, including Aaron Rodgers. J. Stu, something did dawn on me here as we had the breaking news that we'll get to in one second. It's that I don't, I don't even know if I should. Do I need to address LeBron tweeting at me randomly a couple days ago? Because it's a different platform than my show.
Jason Stewart
Yeah, I think it's a must.
Doug Gottlieb
You think so?
Jason Stewart
Yeah, maybe some people aren't familiar with this, so I think you need to like be derivative with it. What happened? How, why? What were you doing?
Doug Gottlieb
I don't even know what happened. Like, I don't know like what? Like I was, oh. If I was flying from your vantage.
Jason Stewart
Point, how did it go down?
Doug Gottlieb
Okay, so for people just joining us, I'm Doug Gottlieb in for Colin. Many of you have throughout my travels now as both the host of the Doug Gottlieb show and the head coach of Green Bay have like, man, I love you when you're on calling. Like I'm still on calling and just, we just do it remotely now. So I appreciate you. And obviously Colin is going to spend at least some time closer to us in Green Bay in Chicago. I don't know how much that that's going to be or how that any of that works. That's not my business. But yeah, over the weekend we broke out of our. Despite the fact we, you know, didn't have still don't have the nation's leading scorers out with injury or our starting center who came over mid year. We pulled off an upset, got a big win on Sunday for the first time in, since 2021 we won a game in our on campus facility called the Crest Center. That was the first time since 2021 we'd won on campus and for my team we lost 21 in a row. 21 row kids battled and beat a good Wright State team and end up getting a win. So you know, it's like unbelievably positive vibes and these and I can, you know, everybody calls their college team kids but when you're playing, you know, six of your rotation or you're, you know, start five fresh. Four freshmen and a sophomore who's 19 years old. You know, you're sitting there going, hey, they're actually kids. Everybody calls their team in college kids. And as the sport has gotten older, my guys are actually kids. So for these kids, they just kind of taken a beating a little bit, you know, emotionally themselves. They're competitive people. And then I don't think they. And probably I didn't even understand how people would choose to follow our story this year. You know, just looking at final scores, not caring about anything else. And when the losing streak built up, you know, people beat up on us on, on social media. There's plenty of other teams that are struggling this year. Apparently the only one they care about is mine, which is fine. Okay, that's, that's, that's how it's gonna be. And it's gonna be that way when we win. So it's okay. But the point is that I don't know if anyone, especially those players, expected what, what kind of happened. So we get a win on Sunday, it's 2:00 game, you know, about 4:35 o'clock. I'm over to place called the Black Sheep, which is on this side of town. It's the only real spot where you can go have a, have a beverage and it's great. And then that night we go out and have dinner and the guys are good and the guys have. We have to. Mandatory. It's mandatory for our program to take two days off. We chose to give them two consecutive days off. And me and a couple my staff guys, we went and recruited on Monday. So I'm flying and I made it, I made it a point to myself. Jace 2 as you know, I am on my phone too much and this job is terrible for it. Terrible for. Because, you know, like when you're recruiting, you have to constantly check in with players and coaches with your team. You kind of have to constantly check in with your players and coaches and with that you're gonna be on your phone. But I was like, you know what? We gotta win. It feels good. I don't need social media today. I don't need anything. I'm just gonna fly, land and be and watch tape and figure out recruiting, figure out my current staff, my current roster, all these things I land and I hadn't. It's like first time because I normally fly American and I was flying Delta and I'm like, you know, I have an account with American to have that to have the WI fi, you know, where you're paying a monthly. I didn't have with Delta. I didn't even look at it. I just, I'm just watching tape, minding my own business. And also I land and one of my buddies calls me, says, what would you do, LeBron? I was like, I don't even know what you're talking about. Did you see Twitter? I was like, no, I'm not on Twitter today. He's like, bronze coming at you. Okay. Over what? He's like, I don't know. So the context of the tweet was clearly making fun of our record, which the tweet was old. We'd actually, it's like all my guys, all my, my players text me like, hey, coach, can you tell LeBron we've won three games, not two. Like, we're not, we're not like that. And, and then, you know, he went, he went 30 year old credit card with the got to give him credit deal to be clever. So I think, again, I don't know, because I don't know what LeBron James would be doing on the day before he had to get back to work with his ankle injury. But my guess is either I live in his head rent free, which is a possibility, or it popped up in his, you know, it can pop up in your like, timeline record. And he just chose to fire off at, you know, catch me astray, but for whatever reason, he chose to do it. And of course there is speculation from the masses that it's over. The fact that I have questioned Bronnie James's validity as a McDonald's All American. When Jonathan Gavoni ranked him as the 10th best NBA prospect in college in basketball last year, even his selection at 55 in the NBA draft or their use of him early on the season, he's still on the Lakers roster, I guess, but I don't know. Chase 2, that's again, we're just guessing because it wasn't like. And it wouldn't be that hard finding a take that a lot of people had, but finding a take that he didn't like of mine, then quote tweeting it. And if he wants to then make fun of our record, I guess then it's good. So am I assuming the wrong thing to assume? Maybe it's over, Bronnie. Maybe it's. Or he listens to the show, he didn't like some of my football picks. What do we think? It's over.
Jason Stewart
It's been, it's been fascinating sport to theorize on this one because yeah, he hasn't had any follow up. Nobody asked him. And if you know somebody like Dan Woicky's listening right now, maybe somebody should ask him about the Gottlieb tweet at the next game. Because we do need clarification. The theories that I've heard around the office here. Okay, you were, you were one of multiple people to make a comparison of Bronnie with Make a wish. Okay, that exaggeration, that probably hit his radar. But I think the one take that you had over the summer when you said that you weren't sure that Bronnie would start for your team. So in other words, you have a Division 1 head coach saying in the Horizon League saying that I'm not sure Bronny would start for my team. Now I remember you saying that and you were being genuine. You were not saying that to exaggerate. That was not a hot take. That is basically how you felt about Bronnie's skill set at that time. I think earlier this week you said, you know what, he would break the starting lineup, but he's not as good.
Doug Gottlieb
As the part of it is. Okay. So again we're kind of brass tacks. What people don't know and it's great, it's actually Anthony Roy is our best player. Anthony Roy was averaging 27 a game before he suffered a lower leg injury that he is working to come back from. And I don't know if he'll be back for our regular season. It's going to be real close. Okay. Anthony Roy is better and I would rather start him than Bronny James. No one in my program, no one in basketball would argue with that. He just would. He's a walking bucket. He was leading the country in 3 point percentage and an effective field goal percentage while averaging 27 a game. Again, it's not just about points or whatever, but the dude is ridiculous. He's also older than Bronnie, is 23 years old, turned 23 mid season. So he's older than Bronnie. So if you want to say if you think Bronnie has better upside, again you can think that I don't believe so. So he would not start there. My other two starting guards at the time this summer I have kid named Preston Rudinger who is in his fourth year playing. He started out as a walk on at Valpo, then earned a scholarship at Valpo, then transferred to Green Bay. Okay, he's just a hard playing 62 kid from, from Appleton, was from Oshkosh Wisconsin. Then I had Jeremiah Johnson, who was a Top hundred, top 150 kid. And I think he actually compares very favorably to Bronny. And here's the thing, okay? If we're actually going to have a real basketball conversation, here's the real basketball conversation. Because though I don't have time to track every G League performance, I do have people in my life that I'm very close to who have, do and continue to either coach or evaluate the G League. And he had, you know, one of his games in which he had a bunch of points, he wasn't actually very good. You know, he was like 6 of 19 or whatever. And they went from a close game to getting blown out. And then he had another, yet another big game where he played really, really well. He's been up and down in the G League. He's been completely ineffective, and he's not good enough to play in the NBA. And no one really argues with that. They don't. Can he start on my team? Yeah, probably. My, my issue with Bronnie has always been like, he's not a point guard. He's not an elite shooter. There's no tracking for any time in his career, high school, college, professionally, that he is an elite shooter ever. He's not an elite passer. And though he can be, he has some of the skill set of being a good defender. Like the, the issue that most people myself who actually evaluate basketball is, especially during summer league, he wouldn't guard the, the big time point guard, the legit dude. You know, he'd go over and kind of hide and guard a shooter. So, you know, I think he's. I. I thought he'd actually have a very good college career. My suggestion at the time and would have remained, why not go play for one of your best friends at Duquesne, get away from it and just really, really develop the confidence of being a scoring combo, because that's his path to success. But yeah, like, and my staff, when I said that, they're like, I think he'd start. Like, I don't know that. I don't know what he looks like, because when I saw him play in college at usc, okay. And unless Andy Enfield's a complete dope, which I don't think anybody thinks any info is a complete dope, he didn't start him because he was behind guards that were better than him. And when he did play, regardless of his stats, they didn't win. They weren't more competitive. They were one of the worst teams in the Pac12 last year, that wasn't a super strong basketball conference. Now it's a higher level in the horizon, but like, we got good guards in this league. Really, really good guards. There's a kid named Bellow at, at Purdue, Fort Wayne. He was a Division 2 kid who transferred in there. He's tough. He's tough. I would rather have him than have Ronnie. And then the other part to it is the reality when you're coach, you're not gonna sit there and throw your own guys on the bus like, oh, he's better than everybody on my roster. He's not. So. But, but again, if it's about that, why not make it about that? Instead of just the stray, let's make fun of their record with no context. Leave you to wonder. And what. And the other part is why, like, what is the win in it for LeBron? Now I know you got. What do they call. What do we call people who are like, LeBron sycophants on social media?
Jason Stewart
Stan. LeBron stans.
Doug Gottlieb
Just that, like the fanboys who. Bronze sexuals. That's what they are. Bronze sexuals. Ah, my, my, my Instagram is full of bronze sexuals who know nothing about anything other than LeBron. LeBron. Like, that's. That is a weird one too. It's. It's creepy to the level of when women and guys. You just remember when Michael Jackson would, like, travel to Japan and like, in his motorcade, people would see him and they just start crying and you're like, what is wrong with those people? Why are you crying at the sight of Michael Jackson? J Stew, we're the same age. We're about same age. You're a little older, right? Do you remember those, those videos of like, Michael Jackson goes to a foreign country and people actually start crying?
Jason Stewart
Of course, of course.
Doug Gottlieb
That's how, that's how I view. I think most people view. What is it again, Ryan? Bronze bronze sexuals. Bronze sexuals.
Jason Stewart
It's funny that you bring in bronze sexuals if you were hearing from them, because if you read the comments of that tweet, and I encourage our listeners to go to the tweet, it's still up. Most of the comments, and I would say a ratio of like 9 to 1, are ripping on LeBron for wasting time tweeting about you after he just cost somebody an all star spot the day before. And the theory that that has been going around the office too, and our guy Dan Beyer came up with it, and I think he's right. LeBron was just on his Private jet on the way home.
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah.
Jason Stewart
And you have on Twitter. You have for you and you have following. He was on his. For you. And this tweet just comes up from college basketball news or whatever it is with your record. And it's. I think he just did an impulse tweet.
Alec Baldwin
Yeah.
Jason Stewart
And there are 23 laughing emojis and 5k emojis, just to be precise.
Doug Gottlieb
Do you a kaka?
Jason Stewart
Yeah, I went kaka instead of turd. For the, for the herd audience.
Doug Gottlieb
You could have got number two as well. Or, or, or poo could then. Poo. Do we do. Do we say the word poo anymore? We just say poo. When we were kids, you go poo.
Jason Stewart
If not, we'll clean it up and edit.
Doug Gottlieb
We would clean that up and edit to make it sound hipper for the kids. What's. I don't know. The interesting part to me is like, I don't care that he missed the All Star game. I. My guess is the reason he didn't bail in the All Star Game, you know, before was the league probably told him, like, hey, dude, act like you're gonna play. And then, you know, and then last second, we'll have you not not play. If we announce that you're not playing, that could hurt the numbers. Let's not do that. I would get. I would guess that that was a. A league mandated thing more than anything else because there's been lots of speculation about, hey, why didn't you just like, why didn't they grab Lamelo ball and throw him in that game? Lamello would have loved to be an All Star. My guess is that they wanted LeBron to go through all the pomp, all the circumstance, pretend like he was playing, be there, because had he not been in the game, LeBron probably been like, I'm out. I'm taking my private jet and I'm going somewhere nice. Like, yeah, we can't do that. Which kind of circles us back to who's the next face of the league. But I, I find the whole thing to be just fascinating. That's that somebody who, like, why does he care? But apparently cares. Cares enough. Cares enough. But people have asked. I've had lots of people go like your. And again, this is more bronze sexuals. You could take the heat, but you can't dish it out. Like, what do you want me to dish out? Do you want me to specifically react to a tweet that has no, nothing other than like, our record is what it is. Like, I can't change it. And I don't feel the need to go back and go like, well, you know, I didn't have this guy then. I didn't have this then. And we played a top hundred schedule and we're a, you know, bottom 250 team. Like, that was dumb. And like, nobody cares. I don't care. They don't care about anything other than either being the most vile people ever or being supportive. There's nothing. There's no in between. No gray. So, like, what do you want me to come back as? Ooh, you missed the last two game winning shots. Like, he's LeBron James. Okay, that was. There was no substance to his tweet other than willfully showing the desire to make fun of a team that he's never watched, he's never paid attention to. And he is. That's funny. I don't know. Good for him. That's small guy stuff, that small guy stuff. Oh, we got breaking news in the NBA. Huge breaking news in the NBA. How does it affect this season and what does it mean going forward? You'll find out next. I'm Doug Gottlieb. This is the herd.

Doug Gottlieb in for Collin. This is the Herd. FOX Sports Radio iHeartradio app. Welcome, welcome, welcome. In breaking news in the NBA, the breaking news in the NBA is Victor Wembanyama is going to miss the remainder of the season. Apparently has deep, deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder. Deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder. I don't know what any of that means. It's basically like a blood clot in the shoulder. They believe it's an isolated incident. Why is it important it's isolated? If you have blood clots, then it's very hard to ever play in the NBA because they got to put you on blood thinner medication and then there's all these steps you got to go through and then if you come off it, then you can get clots. Obviously, we know blood clotting, you know, those things can break loose and can wreak havoc on your entire body. So right now that is the breaking news. What does it mean? And how do we. How is the league reacting to another rating slip, another incarnation of the All Star Game? And, and what do we make of Luca and LeBron now that we saw them last night fall to the Charlotte Hornets for that? I think we need to get funky. Let's get some funky, Cole. Mark Medina joining us. He's our Fox Sports Radio NBA Insider. He, he has his own he. You don't have his entry music. Okay, maybe I'll hum it for. Mark Medina joins us, FOX Sports Radio NBA Insider. Okay, Wembanyama's out for the year. How fearful are the spurs that there's something bigger than just this, this one off blood?
Alec Baldwin
Well, the spurs are certainly concerned enough to shut him down for the rest of the season, but they're encouraged enough that they expect him to make a full recovery before next season. So I think the way the spurs look at it is they almost dodged a bullet here. You know, blood clots are something you never take lightly. You may recall, Doug, Chris Bosch had to end his career early and retire because he had multiple blood clots. But here is the key distinction. Victor Wembanyama has a single blood clot in his shoulder. It's not spread anywhere else out in his body. But obviously the spurs want to take precautionary measures not just because of what he obviously means to this franchise, but for his long term health.
Doug Gottlieb
Okay, NBA All Star Game. They tried something different. Doesn't seem to have worked. Still catching criticism. And the ratings drop lower yet again. What's, what's the league's future plans looking like for the All Star Game?
Alec Baldwin
Well, for better and mostly for worse, I think All Star plans are always fluid. You know, it's not going to go away because it is still a moneymaker even if it's felt like this corporate, you know, convention trade show. But they have to find a better solution because we've seen time and time again they add a new format. It just creates new problems. And what this, the new problems were this year is that you had a little bit better intensity because of the pride factor and you're playing to a score. But it was interrupted with even more commercial time and that long presentation for the inside the NBA guys in the finals came. So if I had a guess moving forward next year add into a dome in la, they go back to east west format and it's about look, we're not going to do any more gimmicks. Just try hard and act like you know, you can give it, you know what just to put on entertaining show. No Game 7 intensity. It's not a playoff matchup. Everyone should be healthy but at least put on an entertaining show for the fans. But you know Doug, you and I have talked a lot about All Star Weekend. It seems unsolvable. So I have skepticism on any solution. But that's my guess on what will happen next year.
Doug Gottlieb
Doug Gottlieb in for Collins to hurt fox Sports Radio iHeartradio app Mark Bedin is our guest. He's our FOX Sports Radio NBA insider. Mark, let's go to crypto last night. Lakers have a big lead and lose. Lamelo goes, you know, right around the traffic cone that is Luka towards at the end of the game and LeBron misses two game tying three point shots. It look, it's just one game. It's a, it's a game in which they, they missed, they had to make. It's a makeup game. But you got any takeaways from watching those two play together?
Alec Baldwin
Yeah, there's a lot of takeaways. The, the extenuating circumstances. Yes, you understand you mentioned the makeup game post All Star break. Sometimes that first game is really sluggish. Luka Doncic, he's played only three games with them. Not only just with the Lakers, but since Christmas with his injury. But what this means, big picture, I don't have concerns about Lucas conditioning or his injury that's going to round into form. I feel like his intentions were good. He was competing even though his passes were way off and his shots were way off. He was still trying to make the right play, but he was trying too hard. Now I think what is going to be interesting moving forward is how do they decide in crunch time what is the best play LeBron James or Luka Doncic. In yesterday's game, the answer was fairly obvious. You go with LeBron because he was shooting the ball a lot better. But I think all things being equal, you know, theoretically, Luca should be the guy taking the shot because that's just how he's geared. And Lebron, you know, for all his greatness, he is great at making the pass. So that's what I'm going to be curious about looking forward. And then the other thing is just defensively, what do they do? They can't defend anyone. You mentioned Lamelo Ball getting the best of Luka Doncic. There's a reason after that play that Luka was held out, you know, on final possessions for defensive purposes. So they have a lot of questions on what they can do in the backcourt on defense as well as in the front court, because outside of Jackson Hayes, they don't really have much size.
Doug Gottlieb
Okay. Kevin Durant said, came out and said, hey, the reason I didn't want to be traded Golden State wasn't anything negative about Golden State. I just want to see this thing through with. With my team. But it leads to speculation. This is probably the last run with. With Phoenix. What do people think about now that the thing has been reshuffled? Who. Who are. Who's the favorite? I mean, like, Oklahoma City looks like they should be the favorite, but they did nothing in the playoffs last year. Dallas looks like they should be dynamic defensively, but they're not healthy and they don't have Luka and we don't really know. Right. The Lakers don't look like they can guard anybody. Golden State looks better, but how much better? Like, it's really hard to figure out. What do people in the league think of the west now?
Alec Baldwin
Yeah, I think the feeling is the Thunder still the favor, but not the predominant favor. Do you still have to consider the Memphis Grizzlies? They've been playing at a really high level, even with John Moran having some overlapping injuries, because Jaren Jackson Jr. Has been a really great defensive player, has increased his versatility Offensively. The Nuggets, they were a hot mess at the beginning of the season, and they still have some structural issues as far as lack of depth and, you know, on questions about Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon's durability. But they have this guy named Nicole Jokic who is still in the MVP running because he has been able to keep that team afloat. But I still give the edge to the Thunder. I'm with you, Doug. I understand the inexperience But I think Shai's taking this game to another level this year where he's not just the isolation scorer. He's good at getting other guys involved. They have so many wing defenders. Alex Caruso, Jalen Williams, Lou Dort. You think about what that means in a playoff series. They're not going to shut down top scores, but they can just throw multiple bodies at them. And Chet Holmgren is not even back yet. So I don't think it's inevitable they get to the NBA Finals, but if I had to make a prediction, it is. And then out East, I think it's really between Boston, Cleveland. I think it's a seven game series. Each team has its own case with Boston's championship experience, most of their team intact, and Cleveland just really taking their chemistry to another level this season. I mean, Doug, you and I, I believe, talked about that fit last year with Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Jared Allen, Evan Mobley. We've seen that both of those players in the back and front court can go exist and complement each other really well. And that's a testament to those guys as well as just how Connie Atkinson's managed the offense.
Doug Gottlieb
Okay, let's get. Let's get to the East. Obviously, people know and respect Boston. Yeah, Cleveland's lurking out there. They didn't do anything to tinker with their roster thinking, feeling like, hey, we're good enough. Are they?
Alec Baldwin
They are. But I think that they're mindful and we should be mindful that regular season dominance doesn't always translate into the playoffs. I mean, you can think of the Houston Rockets in 2018, the Phoenix Suns a few years ago. They had deep playoff success. But you also did wonder, did some of that intensity catch up to them in the playoffs and, you know, allow fatigue to catch up to them? I think that they have such a complete team that they'll be okay. It's just that Boston's really, really good. And a lot of their shortcomings just has to do with the fact that they're nursing the hangover that a lot of championship teams have. They're going through those lulls. I don't see anything fundamentally wrong with the team. I know a lot is made about how they're jacking 53s the game, and there's always questions about Porzingis durability. But I don't think that those two areas are going to make or break their championship fortunes. It starts with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and I think for the most part, they've been basically carrying the Same kind of production they did last season.
Doug Gottlieb
They take on Philadelphia tonight. Lakers travel to Portland tonight. Game 1. For everybody else not named, the Lakers and the Hornets. Although the Hornets are. Are back in action in Denver tonight. Congratulations after win. Now you got to go play in the altitude against the rested Nikola Jokic. Mark, you're the best man. Welcome back. It's the second part of the NBA season as we get ready for the playoffs. Can't wait to talk more with you. Thanks for being our guest.
Alec Baldwin
Right back at you, sir. Appreciate it.
Doug Gottlieb
All right, that's Mark Medina, the funky Cole Medina. Let's get you to Jason Stewart with the news.
Jason Stewart
No, no, no, no.
Dan Aykroyd
Turn on the news.
Jason Stewart
This is the Herd line news.
Doug Gottlieb
J. Stew, what you got? My friend?
Jason Stewart
Doug, I'm going to bring up a couple things here that I think you are uniquely qualified. Built. To respond to.
Doug Gottlieb
Built.
Jason Stewart
Okay. News from this morning. Andy Slater at Fox Sports 640 says that Carson Beck, the new quarterback of the Miami Hurricanes, has had his Mercedes and his Lamborghini stolen.
Doug Gottlieb
Something happened to me last night.
Jason Stewart
Yours too, maybe it's.
Doug Gottlieb
Well, my Lamborghini was stolen. The Mercedes. Somebody just took a joyride to. You know, that's what happened.
Jason Stewart
I think it was somebody in LeBron's crew that may have stole your cars. No one knows what happens with Carson's. Now, Doug, if I was to say to you five years ago that the quarterback of one of the most successful football programs in the country would opt out and leave that program for the Miami Hurricanes and make upwards of $4 million and something called Name, Image and License, and then he would have his Mercedes and Lamborghini stolen from his home. What would you have said five years ago?
Doug Gottlieb
I would have said that's the most. Miami. Like, I'm not sure that those. The Miami guys didn't have Lamborghinis back before it was legal. Right. Let's just. Let's just be honest. Grant Nade at Miami is a little bit different than Grant Nade at some of the other fine institutions in this country. Yeah, it's a weird sign of times. I mean, look, there's. There's all different. All different parts to it. Like how the nil stuff works with the cars. Who pays for the insurance? I don't know. And you know his girlfriend is one of the Cavendish twins, right?
Jason Stewart
Yes.
Doug Gottlieb
I think one of the cars was hers.
Jason Stewart
Oh, man, I just. I can't believe there's so much to this story.
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, and here's another one. Who steals cars anymore.
Jason Stewart
How could you steal car I mean, especially those cars. You think security would be very tough to crack, so.
Doug Gottlieb
Well, it's not just that, but, Mike, most cars have. It's. They're kind of easy to trace them now, you know?
Jason Stewart
Yeah.
Doug Gottlieb
Remember they used to have LoJacks. They still have LoJack. You guys remember a LoJack system? LoJack.
Jason Stewart
LoJack is the MapQuest of security, I think. I think it's had its day. And now they just have regular gps.
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, but, like, every car has some sort of sensor on to where you can track it, where it is, I think, especially cars, you know, like a Lamborghini. My guess is it's got some on it. So the whole just the idea of a stolen car is really. People steal cars, but I guess it's Miami, and a stolen Lamborghini in Miami. Right. Doesn't stick out like a stolen Lamborghini would in Athens, Georgia. Same thing with Mercedes. There's a lot to that story. What would I have said? I would have said that's the most Miami story ever.
Jason Stewart
So you know more about this than I do, but. Bobby Hurley and the Sun Devils are struggling. Kelvin Sampson is the head coach of Houston. And Houston beat Arizona State earlier this week, handing them their sixth straight loss, 11th in their last 13.
Doug Gottlieb
Come on. That's nothing.
Jason Stewart
Yeah, I was gonna say, I found this comment.
Doug Gottlieb
I can't even remember our six straight loss.
Jason Stewart
Yeah, Kelvin said this after the game about Bobby Hurley and his team.
Dan Aykroyd
Well, I hate to see it, because I've been there. We all have. I coached a team at Washington state that lost 18 in a row. You know, I mean, it's not easy. It affects every part of your life. I don't know his wife, but it gnaws at her. It gnaws at his children. It's amazing how people use that as a game. It's not a game.
Doug Gottlieb
It's not funny. It's not something to talk about.
Dan Aykroyd
It's not something to make fun of. I hope you have the courage to keep working and keep fighting like he's doing right now.
Doug Gottlieb
I love it. I love it. You know, it's interesting, when we lost our 19th in a row, I texted Bill Self, because Bill's first year at Oral Roberts, they lost 18 in a row. I was like, ah, got you beat. And he sent me a nice text. I won't share it. You know, but for the most part, it's the same sort of message. And it's. That's the thing I take most pride in. You know, there's some. There's a Couple of more articles. Obviously, the athletic article came out last week. I don't know, the week before. I remember when it came out. There's been other people following us around. And, you know, even though we wanted. We won a game before we'd won a game, if you came to our practices, it was not like a funeral procession. It just wasn't. It doesn't mean every day was super fun and, you know, we're doing circus tricks, but the guys just have a great spirit about that, and that spirit is kind of reinvigorated by winning a game. So, look, I. I understand that you're here. Here's the reality to it. I. This is actually how I feel about LeBron. You know, LeBron a long time ago, would talk about people on social media and maybe people in the media, you know, picking apart things he's done or hasn't done well or whatever, or shots he's missed. And I think the point he made was it's about, like, obviously there's something going on in your life that is that you want to lash out at mine, right? And so it's pretty obvious, like, if you want to have fun at my expense, you're taking over a team. And at this level of college basketball where it's. It's not easy, and I had five kids remaining from last year's roster, and we had to rebuild it and we lost our best player to injury, like, that's okay. I know I was going to. I'm going to learn a lot. But the difference in the people that are in it for the right reasons and for the long haul are the. Are what Kelvin said. What. What Bill Self said. To me, the reality of it is lots of people have been through it, and it's how you choose to work out of it. They choose to work out. But I do appreciate you playing that sound. And it's crazy because, I mean, like, even Bill Self's team at Kansas struggle in the Big 12. Like college basketball. So competitive. You watched Missouri last night beat Alabama. They didn't win a game in the SEC last year, you know, because you're putting together teams on the fly, and sometimes the chemistry doesn't mix and then you get injuries and then it just snowballs. Something happens. And that's her line news.
Jason Stewart
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by the Herd line news.
Doug Gottlieb
Coming up next in the Herd, Rob Manfred addressed the Dodgers spread spending spree this off season. What he say? You'll find out next in the Herd.

Doug Gottlieban for calling this the Hurt FOX Sports Radio iHeartradio app. Welcome in. So there has been a lot of palaver. Palaver from other teams, fans of other teams. You watch the MLB Network as we're getting ready for the Major league season on the defending champ LA Dodgers spending a bunch of money. Like what did they spend a bunch of money last offseason and then this offseason, they spent even more. Here's. Here's Rob Manfred, who's at a spring training event when he was asked about the spending by the Dodgers. Over the past two seasons, the Dodgers have gone out and done everything possible, always within the rules that currently exist, to put the best possible team on the field. And I think that's a great thing for the game. That type of competitive spirit is what people want to see. I said this at the owners meetings. I'll say it again. It's clear that we have fans in some markets that are concerned about the ability of the team in their market to compete with the financial resources of the Dodgers. And I think if we've been consistent on one point, it is we try to listen to our fans on topics like this. And I have heard people on this, believe me. Yeah. So look, I look at the Dodgers like I look at Netflix. And the big story in the sports world in the past day and a half is Netflix is trying to get in on NFL Sunday, Sunday, NFL broadcast rights, right? And you're like, how are the two comparable? Well, Netflix is making a killing, right? Making a killing. And they've, they've, they've dove. Have head deep into live sporting events with the, the Paul fight versus Versus Mike Tyson. Right. And obviously that along with the NFL games, is the Christmas Day games. They've worked. And this was the same company that started out, first time you heard of Netflix was probably, hey, do I pay for one DVD at once or do I get three and have to put them back in those little paper packages? Right? Then they expanded and they became a streaming giant, and now they're worth more than Disney. Like, that's crazy. Crazy. But instead of sitting on their laurels and say, this is our. This is what we got. This. Or keep developing shows, keep push forward, which they're doing now. They're expanding the Dodgers. Like, look, the, the Shohei contract, which essentially everything is deferred, frees up a bunch of money. Well, if you freed up a bunch of money and you're making a bunch of money, you might as well go spend it and keep getting better. It's not like the Dodgers have won the last 10 World Series and outspent all their opponents. And it's getting lame already. Right up until last year, they'd only won the COVID year world series since 1988, so they got every right to keep going after it. They don't violate any of the collective bargaining agreement laws. Like, there's. You're just, you're Complaining more about your team and your lack of a plan. And, oh, yeah, by the way, creating a behemoth, creating a super team, I think is good for the league. It is. Gives you somebody to root for. Gives you somebody root against. And the league's not dumb. Right. Their numbers. And the Red Sox, you know, they have a very good farm system. I don't. I mean, this is not Red Sox year, but Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, they get the Cubs going again. You know, they need somebody else out west, be it the Giants or something. The fact is that the, the. When baseball was at its peak in ratings during my professional lifetime, okay, so I've been doing this since 2003, nationally was right when I started, right. And I believe that one of the reasons they expanded the playoffs was so they would always have the Yankees and the Red Sox. Yankees, or now the Yankees and the Red Sox in the playoffs. Those drove the ratings bus. The Dodgers drive the international and west coast ratings. So why wouldn't you celebrate it? And, oh, yeah, by the way, you don't necessarily need to spend all that money on a yearly basis to win, as we've seen from other teams. But complaining about the expansion of a team, that's killing it and doing well is complaining about Netflix trying to do new things. Anybody who runs a business knows, keep going, keep pushing, keep diversifying. If you don't, if you don't evolve, everybody else will, and everybody else will catch up to you. All right, coming up next in the Herd, Lakers lose after having a huge lead to the Hornets. What did we learn? I'll tell you next time. Doug Gottlieb in for Colin. This is the Herd. Some people just know they could save hundreds on car insurance by checking Allstate first. Like, you know, to check for the nearest bathroom first before the game starts. Now you're heading in the wrong direction, and it sounds like your team's taking the lead. Checking first is smart, so check Allstate first for a quote that could save you hundreds. You're in good hands with Allstate. Savings vary subject to terms, conditions and availability. Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Company and Affiliates, Northbrook, Illinois. The Herd with Colin Cowherd – Episode: Hour 2 - Reaction to LeBron
Release Date: February 20, 2025
Host: Doug Gottlieb (Guest Host for Colin Cowherd)
In this episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, guest host Doug Gottlieb delves into a recent interaction with NBA superstar LeBron James that has stirred conversations across social media and sports communities alike. The episode focuses on LeBron's unexpected tweet directed at Gottlieb, its implications, and broader NBA-related topics, including team performances and significant injuries.
Breaking the Ice: At the outset, Gottlieb addresses a surprising event where LeBron James tweeted at him, seemingly mocking his team's performance.
Doug Gottlieb [03:54]: "The context of the tweet was clearly making fun of our record, which the tweet was old."
Speculations on LeBron's Motives: Gottlieb explores potential reasons behind LeBron's tweet, questioning whether it's a personal grudge or merely a spontaneous social media reaction.
Doug Gottlieb [04:42]: "Maybe it's over, Bronnie. Maybe it's... Or he listens to the show, he didn't like some of my football picks."
Impact on Team Morale: The host discusses how such public critiques can affect team morale and player psychology, emphasizing the importance of focusing on performance rather than external opinions.
Doug Gottlieb [11:44]: "Anthony Roy is our best player. ... I would rather start him than Bronny James. No one in my program, no one in basketball would argue with that."
Evaluating Key Players: Gottlieb provides an in-depth analysis of his team's roster, highlighting standout players like Anthony Roy and contrasting their performance with that of Bronny James.
Doug Gottlieb [16:42]: "My Instagram is full of bronze sexuals who know nothing about anything other than LeBron."
Critique of Bronny James: The conversation turns critical as Gottlieb assesses Bronny's capabilities, suggesting that despite his potential, he may not currently match up to other key players.
Doug Gottlieb [31:31]: "He had a bunch of points, he wasn't actually very good. ... He's been completely ineffective, and he's not good enough to play in the NBA."
Team Dynamics and Leadership: Gottlieb emphasizes the importance of leadership and chemistry within the team, praising his own players' resilience despite a challenging season.
Doug Gottlieb [40:07]: "The guys just have a great spirit about that, and that spirit is kind of reinvigorated by winning a game."
Victor Wembanyama's Injury: A significant portion of the episode covers the unfortunate news of Victor Wembanyama suffering deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder, leading to his absence for the remainder of the season.
Doug Gottlieb [25:24]: "Victor Wembanyama is going to miss the remainder of the season. Apparently has deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder."
All-Star Game Ratings: Gottlieb critiques the NBA's handling of the All-Star Game, particularly the experiment with new formats that have not yielded the desired ratings.
Doug Gottlieb [28:04]: "The new problems were this year is that you had a little bit better intensity because of the pride factor... It's not a playoff matchup."
Playoff Predictions: The host offers his predictions for the NBA playoffs, discussing potential favorites and the strengths of various teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences.
Doug Gottlieb [32:14]: "I think the Thunder still the favorite, but not the predominant favorite."
Game Breakdown: Gottlieb analyzes the recent game between the Lakers and the Hornets, highlighting key moments and player performances that influenced the outcome.
Doug Gottlieb [29:57]: "Luka Doncic, he's played only three games with them. Not only just with the Lakers, but since Christmas with his injury."
Strategic Insights: He discusses strategic decisions, such as player rotations and defensive setups, questioning the Lakers' ability to guard top opponents effectively.
Doug Gottlieb [32:14]: "They can't defend anyone. ... they don't really have much size."
LeBron's Social Media Presence: The episode touches on the intense scrutiny of LeBron's social media interactions, labeling certain fans derogatorily and questioning the authenticity of such engagements.
Doug Gottlieb [16:45]: "Bronze sexuals. That's what they are. Bronze sexuals."
Fan Reactions and Social Media Dynamics: Gottlieb comments on the polarized reactions from fans on social media, noting a trend of extreme support or condemnation with little middle ground.
Jason Stewart [18:15]: "Most of the comments, and I would say a ratio of like 9 to 1, are ripping on LeBron for wasting time tweeting about you after he just cost somebody an all-star spot the day before."
Final Thoughts: As the episode wraps up, Gottlieb reiterates his stance on maintaining focus within the team and minimizing distractions from external critiques.
Doug Gottlieb [41:57]: "There's a Couple of more articles... something happens. And that's her line news."
Upcoming Topics: Listeners are teased with upcoming discussions on MLB spending and more NBA insights in future episodes.
Doug Gottlieb [42:34]: "Coming up next in the Herd, Lakers lose after having a huge lead to the Hornets. What did we learn? I'll tell you next time."
This episode offers a blend of personal anecdotes, expert analysis, and candid discussions, providing listeners with a comprehensive understanding of the ongoing dynamics in sports, particularly concerning LeBron James and his interactions with the broader sports community.
