And don't forget, after the show over promised on the fox Sports Radio YouTube page you could watch listen, if I were you, I'd watch. It's a great listen, but we put it together where I'll be honest, I think it's better than some TV shows on espn, Fox, cbs. We do have a hell of a job spot. Your video package is great. I said video. But hey, over promised after the show we're going to get to a bunch of stuff we don't get to on today's show.
Steve Covino
Exactly. A brand new episode. And speaking of great shows, great radio shows back in the 30s, see, there's a spring in my step and a nickel in my pocket. When you had that nickel in your pocket and that spring in your step, a lot of families got together around the radio and they listened to the Lone Ranger. On this day started in Detroit, 1933. By 1939, it went national and over 20 million people were were tuning in to listen to the Lone Ranger.
Danny G.
That's like Joe Rogan numbers.
Steve Covino
I mean, it's ridiculous. They're all sitting around the radio too. So there's so many questions, so many thoughts that come to mind. We didn't grow up with that, obviously, but one of our callers said, yeah, man, for us that was like listening to the ball game. And it really was. You had it on. You just had it on. Family would listen, listen in the car, you'd listen in your yard, listen all the time. The personalities involved in radio, the bits involved that captured our attention. And then we posed the question, what TV shows today are so well written that they'd actually translate on the radio? And we've come to the conclusion that it's a lot of the narrated shows that we enjoyed growing up.
Danny G.
Narrated shows, true crime type of shows that are narrated like a Dexter.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
Because you hear his inner dialogue and everything. His inner monologue. Yeah, that would be great.
Danny G.
And observational comedy shows like a Seinfelder Curb or something like that.
Steve Covino
And that bass line and a laugh track.
Danny G.
Yeah, you could picture it that those are now. Those are now the, you know, podcast transitions, Right?
Steve Covino
Exactly.
Danny G.
All right, Bill, Miami, wrap this and we'll get into David Benavidez. I see the Zoom signing on. So let's go. What's up, Bill?
Steve Covino
Hey, guys. Vino Rich, Awesome.
Rich Davis
Love hearing you guys.
Danny G.
Thank you.
Rich Davis
Full of laughs, man.
David Benavidez
Love it.
Rich Davis
Hey, I'm going to talk about the Lone Ranger.
Steve Covino
Kimo Sabe.
Rich Davis
I grew up on black and white and back in the early 80s when I was a young military man on radio watch.
Steve Covino
If you remember watching some of those movies of the old radio, the brick 77, PR 77, the old fashioned radio.
Rich Davis
From Korea, Vietnam, we used to tune that thing on to a frequency and listen to it with our squad at night. Listening to the Lone Ranger.
Steve Covino
That's an odd one.
Danny G.
That's wild, man. Let me tell you. I know the conversation started about people would gather around the radio and speak radio, which we've spent our career in.
Steve Covino
Right.
Danny G.
We've done tv, podcasting, video, different things. But radio is the base of what Covino and I love. And I know we both fell in love with it in different ways.
Steve Covino
Right. And for different reasons.
Danny G.
They say this and I agree with it that radio is the most intimate medium because most of the time when you're listening to the radio, a podcast music, you are by yourself. So you feel that one on one connection with the show you listen to.
Steve Covino
And if you're listening to headphones like most people do, it's right there in your ear. It's like we're whispering right to you. So it is very intimate.
Danny G.
You watch movies in a theater with a bunch of other people. You watch shows with your wife or kids. Radio, it's usually a very intimate one on one thing, like what you're hearing right now. And I see him, he's on the screen now. Going to see him this weekend in Vegas. Covino.
Steve Covino
That's right. The WBC NWBA Light Heavyweight Belts are on the line. Let's welcome WBC Light Heavyweight Champion, David Benavidez.
Danny G.
Yo, what's up, my man? How are you?
Steve Covino
Mexican Monster. Good to see you.
David Benavidez
I'm doing good, man. I'm doing really good. How you guys doing?
Danny G.
We got we're excited. We're excited. We get on our plane tomorrow morning, we'll cover the fight, see you win, or what? Are we. Are we feeling confident?
David Benavidez
Am I feeling confident? Did you not see the press conference? I'm 100 confident, man. Like I said, David Morell is a good fighter. That's why I picked him to fight, because I know when I, when I get in the ring with good fighters, a great David Benavides comes out. And we've been selling this fight really good. You know, the promotion has been really good. And the good thing about this, that none of this is fake, you know, I mean, this is all real. You know, we, we have a genuine dislike for each other. And I think the, the track record shows in history when you get two fighters like that that really dislike each other, the fight is amazing.
Steve Covino
Okay, well, I'm glad you're 100% confident. Are you 100% healthy because you battled some injuries with your hand last fight, so no excuses this time around, right? How are you feeling, Health wise man?
David Benavidez
Yeah, well, I mean, I'm feeling really good. I didn't, I didn't have any excuses last fight. I won the fight, you know, even though.
Steve Covino
Oh, I know you won. Absolutely.
David Benavidez
Told you guys that I had injuries, but there's no, there's no injuries now. You know, we're 100% good, injury free, and we're looking to put a great show for the people.
Steve Covino
And you said you dislike your opponent, David Morrell. Why is it exactly. Is it all the trash talk? Is it what he said about your family? What is it about him that you dislike so much? And does that work to your advantage here?
David Benavidez
Yeah, it's just a trash talk, you know, just. Just a trash talk. And then just seeing him face to face and I was both talking about each other and then also, you know, at the end of the day, when you're a fighter, this comes out, especially if somebody says something to you, you know, I mean, it is. It's eventually going to come out. And like I said, I understand this is a business, too. I want to sell as much pay per views as possible. So, you know, we, we cranked it up a little bit.
Danny G.
You said you genuinely disliked that guy and you said that that's good for the fight. Does that change your emotions or is it like just an opponent's. An opponent. Do you really. Is it does, you know, making contact feel even better when you hate that guy's face?
David Benavidez
Yeah. So when you have emotions like this also, I mean, obviously you have to Control the emotion.
Danny G.
Yeah.
David Benavidez
If you really don't like somebody, that emotion could lead you to possibly wanting to knock this guy out or inflicting as much damage as possible. And I've, you know, I've dealt with emotions like this in my previous fights, and as you guys can see, I'm 290 with 24 knockouts, so it's worked pretty good for me.
Danny G.
No doubt.
Steve Covino
Absolutely. Yeah. Both undefeated fighters going at it this weekend, and you mentioned that you're going to break his jaw. So it's not just about beating this dude. You want to hurt this dude, Is that right?
David Benavidez
I want this fight to leave an imprint on the rest of his life, and I want him to remember me for the rest of his life, too. I want him to. When he thinks about David Benavidez, I want him to think like, oh, man, I can't even believe that I ever thought I was going to beat that guy. That guy's a monster.
Steve Covino
Now, you obviously have your personal expectations. You also have a reputation of being El Monstro as Mike Tyson named you the Mexican monster. So you have that to live up to. You're fighting for Mexican pride. How do you view it as far as Mexican fighter versus Cuban fighter?
David Benavidez
To be honest with you, I felt like the Mexican and Cuban rivalry has been really good. We've had some great fights, but I just feel like the Mexican fighters all around, they have. They're. They're, you know, they're. They're more. They go after you. We don't try to box. We try to actually go in there and stop the fights and we try to, you know, knock the fighters out. So I already have that in my blood. You know what I mean? I fought like that my whole career, so I'm expecting to fight like that until my career is over.
Danny G.
Is it cool that Mike Tyson calls you the Mexican monster? That's got to be cool knowing, you know, growing up, it's Mike Tyson. Is that cool?
Steve Covino
Oh, it's great.
David Benavidez
Yeah, it's amazing, man. It's really so, like, I want to put in perspective for you when I watched Mike Tyson my whole life, so when him blessing me with the nickname like that, it not only does it make me happy and it makes me motivated, but it kind of puts, like, my thoughts when I was a little kid thinking that I was going to be a world champion, watching Mike Tyson and Mike Tyson giving me my name, it's like, oh, wow. Like, you could really manifest whatever you want if you work hard to your dreams. And right now, I'm in all bliss, because I'm living out my dreams right now.
Steve Covino
We're here with David Benavidez. The fights this weekend, we're going to be there. Were so pumped, man. So pumped to have you on the show. How are you feeling fighting at 175 now because you were so dominant at 168? Do you really feel the power difference from your opponent from yourself? Like, what has been the biggest difference for you so far?
David Benavidez
To be honest with you, I didn't really have a. Not that I didn't have a good experience, but I didn't really get to feel 100% myself because of the injuries I was dealing with. Right this time around, I'm expecting to feel the power from myself because I'm, you know, I'm 100% good right now. But as, as for opponent's punching power, I don't think like that. Once you go once, once you're a fighter and you're a warrior, you don't think like, oh, is this guy going to hit hard? This and that. You just go in there, you do the work and that's it.
Danny G.
You are 29 and, oh, like you pointed out 24 of those coming by knockout. Would you be shocked if he lasted all 12 rounds?
David Benavidez
You know, I mean, I wouldn't be shocked because this is boxing. You know, sometimes these people, you know, they move around a lot. But I'm not trying to let it go to 12 rounds. Like I said, every single round I'm gonna be in there putting as much pressure as possible to make sure I get that.
Danny G.
KO yo, let me ask you this. Ring entrances. We've been going to fights together now, Kavito, for like 20 years. Yeah, they're getting more intense, you know, more elaborate, more fireworks and songs and, you know, musicians, rappers, bringing people down to the ring. Do you put a lot of thought into your ring entrance?
David Benavidez
Yeah, I, I do more like a Mexican artist because obviously I have. Most of my fans are Mexican and Latino and stuff. So I definitely do put that my past. My last fight came out the hardest. So this fight I'm planning on doing, coming out with another artist as well.
Danny G.
Nice.
David Benavidez
But obviously, you know, at the end of the day, this is a show, you know, and you have to give the people what they want to see. So every fight, every fight, it's gonna get bigger and bigger. So I, I, I am adding artists to all my fights now, and I.
Steve Covino
Love that because, you know, it's all about entertainment and this gets them hyped up. And I say this with all due respect, David Benavidez, but the cleanest, the tightest ring entrance I've ever seen was Felix Chavez. Your brothers in Creed 3, man, that was pretty cool, dude. That was dope. How was that for you, man? And your brother's on this car too, so.
David Benavidez
Yeah.
Steve Covino
Does that make it more nerve wracking for you or you're just so confident in him? So tell me about him on the card and tell me about seeing him in the movie.
David Benavidez
No. So we're really confident because over here on this side, we work our asses off and we know exactly what we have, you know, we know exactly what talent we have. So once you put the talent with the hard work, you know, and there's no stone unturned here, you know, we, we're not messing around. So I, I'm gonna have 100% confidence in my brother. It does give me a little bit nervous, you know, because obviously it's my brother. I love my brother, but I'm sure he feels the same with me. He gets a little bit nervous when he watches me fight. But as to his, his entrance in the movie and just seeing him being in the Creed 3, you know, it's just like I said, we're just living out our dreams. You know, we're two kids from Phoenix, Arizona. We weren't really expecting much. And now, you know, multiple titles, multiple belts won, and he's in Creed, and, you know, it's going to keep getting bigger and better. So, like I said, managers, with all the hard work and dedication, anything could be manifested.
Danny G.
David, I was gonna say, when you were growing up in Phoenix with your brother, could you have ever imagined, when you guys were tussling, wrestling in the living room, throwing pillows at each other, would you ever imagine that you guys would both be at this level? Like, was there any signs early on, like, yo, we got skills, bro?
David Benavidez
Yeah, well, my brother, he was one of the best amateur fighters in all of Phoenix. But when we were younger kids, no, we weren't expecting nothing like that. So like I said, we didn't expect that, but we were working towards that. So just the hard work and the dedication led us to hear. And like I said, now that I get here, now that I'm here, I'm just reaching for the stars and I want bigger and better things because I know it's possible. So I'm just, you know, like I said, I'm really, really happy and I'm really blessed with everything that's going on in my life.
Steve Covino
And we're happy for you, man, and you're talking about the manifesting. So let's, let's talk about it. When you win this fight, man, when you win this fight, better bf also fights bivol, what, in February 22nd. February. Right. The winner of your fight should fight the winner of that fight. How do you see that panning out?
David Benavidez
Yeah, I feel like, honestly, I feel like Bivol won the first fight. I think he's going to win again. So, you know, we're 100% focused on this fight Saturday, but honestly, where, if we get that opportunity, we should be the number one in line to fight Bivol. So, yeah, man, it's going to be great. We got some great things coming our way. And you know, like I said, stay tuned because, you know, greatness will be achieved.
Steve Covino
Now, personally, I really do want to know this. That would be a huge fight, a great fight. Those are great fighters. Right, but personally, would you rather fight the winner of better bf, Bival or Canelo? Because everybody still brings up Canelo, but, you know, are you past that at 175? Are you not looking back? What are your thoughts on that?
David Benavidez
To be honest with you, those are two completely different fights. I think the one would leave that there. Don't drink that. I think the one with Canelo is the bigger fight, obviously, because, you know, it's more hyped up. Mexican versus Mexican. Canelo, he's achieved a lot, but I think that's an easier fight than before. Honestly, I think I beat Canelo easier than I beat before. I think Bavo, he's tough fighter and. But I think the Canelo fight is bigger than the fight versus me and Babol.
Steve Covino
A lot of people think the morale fight this weekend is. Is tougher than a Canelo fight.
Danny G.
Yeah, we'll let, we'll let you get back to what you're doing. David Benavidez on Cavino. Rich, one last thing. You're. You're a favorite in Vegas, -230. Do you ever take a look at that stuff? Do you want to know how much you're favorite? If you're an underdog, do you care about that even a little? Does that motivate you?
David Benavidez
Not. To be honest with you, I don't really care. Looking at that stuff. And also a thing that I hate when people tell me, hey, I bet, I'm betting on you. I'm like, oh, so now you're betting on me? Now I'm supposed to win or what? But I don't really look at that, you know, because you Know, sometimes I. I don't really like to pay attention to that stuff because a fighter, in my opinion, every fighter is dangerous and every fighter is good. So I got to stay my mind focus. You know, I don't try to. I don't try to, you know, you know, get stuck up on being. Being an advantage of nothing like that. I just try to stay focused on the fight until the job is done.
Steve Covino
And actually, I got one last question, too. We're obviously very pumped about your fight and what's next for you. What's a fight you want to see?
David Benavidez
Just like an all in boxing.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
David Benavidez
Me versus Canelo will be good. So I would love to see. I would love to see Devin Haney versus. I mean, Devin Haney. Ryan Garcia versus Tank, too. I think that would be a really good fight, but with no weight clause. No weight clause.
Danny G.
Right.
Steve Covino
All right, man. Hey, well, we're wishing you the best and thank you for your time. We'll see you this weekend in Vegas.
Danny G.
There he is, David Benavides. Thank you, my friend.
Steve Covino
Thank you, man.
Danny G.
See you this weekend.
Steve Covino
The Mexican monster named by Mike Tyson. The dude is nasty. And let me just put this in perspective, too. Everybody wants to see this Canelo fight, and it would be a battle because Canelo's tough, right? Yeah, but Canelo didn't translate at 175. He lost to Beaver. Right. The power wasn't the same. Canelo's 5 foot 7. I'm not saying that matters, but he's a smaller dude, right, who fights at 168, 5 foot 7. El Monstro here is 6 foot 2 and he walks around at 200 pounds. So he's a much bigger dude.
Danny G.
Keep that in mind. Benavidez, six two, 200 pounds.
Steve Covino
I mean, he's fighting at 175 once, you know, but he's still a bigger guy.
Danny G.
But Canelo Alvarez, because you see him against other fighters, sometimes you lose that perception of height. He's 5 7.
Steve Covino
Yeah, exactly. So it's going to be a battle. And don't sleep on David Morrell. It's not a warmup fight. It's going to be a battle and they dislike each other. And we're going to be out there this weekend from radio Row at MGM starting tomorrow. So tune in Covino and Rich and if you want to see the fight on Saturday, PPV.com or premiere boxing champions.com Benavidez Morrell.
Danny G.
All right, well, we got a lot of NFL. We're going to get back to some football, some NBA and Danny spot. You guys, you guys doing laundry tonight or what? I just know. I just realized, like, we have to pack. We have to pack for a weekend in Vegas.
Steve Covino
You only have a few chonies left.
Danny G.
No, I'm just saying you got to pack for a long weekend in Vegas and then a week plus in New Orleans for the Super Bowl. So I'm just reminding you guys, clean your chonies and then pack your nice shirts.
Rich Davis
No, you're right. I actually dropped off some things at a dry cleaner just a few days ago.
Danny G.
Yeah, so don't forget to pick that up. And we'll be back. We're going to talk some more NFL next as we are, what, a week and a couple days away from Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans. More Covino and Rich next.
Steve Covino

Steve Covino
We'll lean into Nate's playing experience and tap into our interests away from hockey and try to do it. Energy Lines are supposed to do provide an emotional boost. How do you feel about all that, Nate?
Rich Davis
I'm vibing Julie.
Steve Covino

Danny G.
I'm here guys. Red 16.
Steve Covino
Hey, where's Rich? Is he at the Spearmint Rhino? Where the hell Rich Go.
Danny G.
Don't tell anyone.
Steve Covino
So we'll be in Vegas for the fight using our rapid radios and then New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
Rich Davis
You're gonna go on one of those gambling boats in New Orleans, Rich?
Danny G.
You know what? You never know. You're in a city.
Steve Covino
Oh, no.
Danny G.
There's the casino right there, right off Bourbon Street.
Rich Davis
Oh, I know there is. There's also some boats that sit out there that have gambling on them.
Danny G.
Little riverboat action.
Rich Davis
Riverboat.
Danny G.
Riverboat Run.
Rich Davis
Riverboat. Ron.
Steve Covino
Riverboat.
Rich Davis
Richie.
Steve Covino
I want to thank again, David Benavidez for being on the show and giving us a reason to be out there in Vegas this weekend. So listen out starting tomorrow, never know who's going to stop by the show. Live from Vegas for Benavidez Morrell. That's this weekend, Saturday night. David Benavidez looks pretty confident, man. He looks like he's in great shape again. Big dude, slims down to 178. He's hard to beat. He's beat some big names. Andre, Caleb, Plant, he's beat them all. I think he would beat Canelo. I really do. It'd be a great fight and a lot of pride on the line.
Rich Davis
I'm excited to see him. I've seen him on pay per view. This is going to be the first time I see him in person.
Steve Covino
The Mexican monster. And Rich, you know, back in the day. Yeah, on his come up, he used to spar at Triple G. I wanted to ask him about that. But if we see him in Vegas, maybe we'll talk to him about it. But again, the winner of this fight gets the winner of better BF Bival the rematch. So thanks again. If you missed any of it, catch the podcast. And because we had Benavidez on the show today, we don't have a whole lot of time. So whatever we don't have time for is on over promised. That's our bonus pod. And a new episode debuts today right after the show in about a half hour. 4pm on the west, 7pm on the east, over promised with Covino and Rich. I can tell you right now we're going to talk about the evolution of sport, trophies and logos based on that.
Danny G.
Bill Belichick story saying that the Vince Lombardi trophy should be renamed the Tom Brady Trophy.
Steve Covino
So we're going to go over some other maybe potential possible changes in trophies and logos. We'll go over the super bowl logos.
Danny G.
We talk about how well the NFL seems to do everything right. It's one of the few things the NBA has really nailed recently because when you think about all the NBA awards now, they pay tribute to Bird, Jordan, Magic, Kareem, everyone. So. Well, we'll get to that on over Promise.
Steve Covino
That's fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. A half hour from now we go live, join it live. And there's live chat and everything. So if you're listening, check it out on the YouTube page. And we'll also talk about the most important piece of sporting equipment. Think about it because we're not going to fit that in today's show. What's the most important piece of sporting equipment you own? You're not even going to guess. You won't know until you hear it on over Promise. And we'll talk about Kelsey in the super bowl and more. Okay, yeah, sure.
Danny G.
You got a buddy. Now. When you think about Super Bowl 59 and you think about licks, like I said, tickets, seven plus grand New Orleans, great party city. There is a part of you that wonders and this is something maybe we'll get into a little more on over Promise as well. Will Travis Kelsey. Is it even. You think it's even on his mind at all? Like how to handle Taylor Swift because there's a prop bet.
Steve Covino
What do you mean how to handle her?
Danny G.
Like how to like. Because there's a lot of people saying maybe they'll get engaged.
Steve Covino
I mean we don't even know if that's really on his radar or if the timing's right. But if they're really on that page, I think no better time.
Danny G.
Is that a selfish move? Does it take away attention from the selfish move?
Rich Davis
Cam Newton, I was going to say he's not a camp. So I don't see him taking away attention from his teammates like that.
Danny G.
That's it seems like a. When it's high school or college kid doing it, like I'm going to get engaged my high school sweetheart. That's adorable. I think this would be an attention grabber.
Steve Covino
Well, you know what? Yeah, we'll discuss it on over promised. Right now let's talk about Carl Anthony Towns. Oh, of the New York Knickerbockers. Uh huh. Yeah. She there's a spring in my stepping a nickel in my pocket gonna buy a ticket seat of Knickerbockers. See guess who bought a ticket to see the Knickerbockers. Guess who biggest star in the world.
Rich Davis
Willy Wonka.
Steve Covino
That's right. You're right.
Danny G.
Oh, Timothy Oliphant. Did I say Timothy Oliphant?
Rich Davis
You confused me.
Steve Covino
I know, I thought you were joke.
Danny G.
Timothy Chalamet might be Chalame. Wrong. Timothy Shabadoo. Sorry, wrong tip. Mad Dog Russo's best friend, Timothy Chalamet.
Steve Covino
Yes, that guy. Bob Dylan. Timothy Chalamet. And Kathy Towns gave him the jersey.
Danny G.
That's a cool Chalamet.
Steve Covino
Again, just continues to prove that he's such a dude's dude, such a bro, such a sports fan. We thought he was some sort of theater nerd, right? Like this holly weird sort of guy that we don't like. Some little dweebus who's good at acting. And then he's like, nah, man, I'm just a cool dude. And he changed everybody's perception of him in a matter of, like, three months.
Danny G.
You know, it poses an interesting question, Kavito, that just popped in my head. Are there people in the sports. I'm sorry, not even sports. Are there people in the music and acting world that you had them wrong? That you had them wrong? They won you over because you're like, yo, you're a hell of a lot cooler than I thought.
Steve Covino
Because the same way we had him, way wrong.
Danny G.
The same way we're like, oh, Timothy Chalamet. Like, isn't he sort of like an artsy. I don't know, seem that. And then it's like, no, he's like a. He's a dude. He's a sports fan. You saw my college game day.
Steve Covino
It was the college game day appearance that really changed everybody's perception. He was way knowledgeable. I was like, man, this guy could really blow it up. I could really dominate in, like, a barber shop setting.
Danny G.
I got. I got a few examples of guys whose.
Steve Covino
I got one guy that comes to my.
Danny G.
There's. I hope I don't take your answer, but I got a couple that I really changed my mind on just based on interactions with them and watching them.
Steve Covino
Nick Lachey, That's a good answer. Yeah.
Danny G.
Of Love is blind, of 98 degrees. You know, you could say boy band, frosted tips in his hair. Him and Jessica Simpson in the 2000s. Now he's with Vanessa Manila Lachey.
Rich Davis
He looks scared of her all the time.
Danny G.
Yo, he does look scared.
Steve Covino
It's not that he isn't cool, but he's way cooler. Yeah. A dude that hosts a popular show and he's made married to a beautiful woman. He's kind of cool already, but he's even cooler when you realize how passionate he is about a sports team.
Danny G.
You didn't realize, like, every time we've hung out or talked to Nick Lachey interviewed or anything, all he Wants to talk about is Cincinnati sports.
Steve Covino
Cincinnati sports for sure.
Danny G.
Bengals, Reds, you name it. So Nick Lachey is one of those guys where you'd be shocked that he knows as much or more than you about sports. And. And, you know, because a lot of times dudes in that pop world, people assume like, oh, I got two other.
Steve Covino
Pop world guys, but they're not my answer. And I don't want you to take my answer.
Danny G.
I was going to say to me, when I saw guys like Bieber or Timberlake play basketball, I'm like, yo, they're way more athletic and, you know, way more in it than I thought.
Steve Covino
Two more pop guys to just stay on that theme, because it was unexpected. Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, he's way into his sports, way into rock music. Like, you mean the boy band dude? Love to bro it up when we talk to him. Rich was way into sports. And Chris Kirkpatrick, we were on his podcast recently. That dude is all about his Pittsburgh teams, all about him.
Danny G.
But you know what? That makes sense.
Steve Covino
And I would have never known that. And that's all he wanted to talk about.
Danny G.
All the proofs is that guys like you.
Steve Covino
Guys like me, who would think that?
Danny G.
No, it's guys like you that think people that are into more mainstream pop stuff. I grew up in pop radio.
Steve Covino
You think I've created the stigma for them?
Danny G.
No, but I'm saying it's guys like you, though.
Steve Covino
No, it's true that it's like them that put all that other stuff forward, therefore we don't know the other side to them. That's not my fault.
Danny G.
No, I'm saying it's boneheads like you that are like, yeah, rock music. A guy that likes pop music can't like sports.
Steve Covino
You think I've created this stigma? Are you out of your mind?
Danny G.
You lean into it.
Steve Covino
No. Or that they lead us to believe these things with the goofy stuff that they do. Why?
Danny G.
Because they said they sing a pop song instead of a rock song. You don't think they can ball more than that?
Steve Covino
Is it a surprise, then? Why is it surprise for Nick Lachey to be all about his Cincinnati team?
Danny G.
Stereotypes of people like you that they create.
Steve Covino
I don't create the stereotypes, dude. Thanks for giving me all the credit, Dan Byer, but another one.
Danny G.
Dan Byer might be one of the most knowledgeable guys I know in sports, but you know what Dan Buyer also likes? I'm pretty sure he likes, like, pop music, boy band stuff, and Vanderpump.
Steve Covino
And Vanderpump. Yeah.
Danny G.
Dan Beyer.
Rich Davis
True. Not Vanderpump. It's the Real Housewives. Yeah. You guys got to get that straight.
Steve Covino
We got to get that, right?
Rich Davis
Yes.
Steve Covino
But it's not just pop guys. Yeah, Billy Corgan was my answer. You just brought up pop. He's the one that brought up pop dudes and made it about me.
Danny G.
Yeah.
Steve Covino
What a goon burger. Do you listen to this guy?
Rich Davis
He's the one that brought up pop.
Steve Covino
Stars that have a stigma and then somehow turned it on me because I was gonna say Billy Corgan, who's a rock star. I would have never thought that weirdo was way into his Cubs the way he is. I always thought Billy Corgan was a weird guy. The world is a vampire. I loved him as a musician. You talk to him. All he wants to talk about is old school wrestling and his Chicago Cubs and. And he talks about how good he was at baseball and all that sort of stuff. He's a way cooler dude than you think he is. And I'm not saying being a rock star or a pop star isn't cool, but you really didn't know there was that side to them.
Danny G.
But anyway, to back up my point, guys like Steve Covino. Yeah, I guess assume that. Assume that if you grow up and you're more into pop music than rock or you're more mainstream. Let me ask you, how many men.
Steve Covino
You know into pop music, Bud? Into boy bands. How many men you know into boy bands?
Danny G.
But see, so now you're admitting that you assume that if someone's into that, they're not as manly into sports.
Steve Covino
I'm assuming that because I'm not into boy bands.
Danny G.
I'll give you two.
Steve Covino
But I didn't invent the stigma.
Danny G.
I'll give you two, Mr. Rom Com. Lance Romance himself. Paul Rudd never misses a playoff game. Of his teams. Paul Rudd's wanting to hang out with the team.
Rich Davis
He's a Chiefs fan, isn't he?
Danny G.
Yeah. And on top. And on top of that, a guy that's into college football way more than me, and a guy that's into all his sports is a guy that played a gay guy on television. Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family.
Steve Covino
Yeah.
Danny G.
If you didn't know, because his character, he plays a very feminine homosexual man on television. In real life, he is a sports fanatic.
Steve Covino
Yeah, he is. So is your guy Ty. What's his face from Modern Family.
Danny G.
Ty Burrell.
Steve Covino
Ty Burrell. Memories all about his Mets. I'm not saying he's a nerdy guy or anything, but you don't know the side of them because you only know the actors that are the characters they portray.
Rich Davis
You guys didn't bring up any actresses. I read that Margot Robbie is such a huge NHL fan that she put her audition for the Wolf of Wall street on hold so that she could make a New York Rangers game.
Steve Covino
Is that true?
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
Oh, wow. Yeah. See? So you do see a different side of them. You're like, oh, so there. You know what it does, too? It normalizes these people. Like, oh, okay, so you're not just some, you know, guy dancing around some weird entertainment person. You know, it is.
Danny G.
I'll back up Camino on this. There's a lot of Hollywood and people in the music scene that are. You love their music, but they're weirdos. So when you see the guys and the women that are, like, cool, regular people that enjoy a team or have favorite players, that's sort of cool to me. You know who's a big Steelers fan? Joe Manganiello.
Steve Covino
Oh, big time. Big time. We met him.
Danny G.
Magic Mike himself.
Steve Covino
Yep. So the other part of the story is this. Timothee Chalamet is there. He's courtside. I guess they're at the Garden, right?
Danny G.
Oh, Chalamet. Oh, Chalamet.
Steve Covino
Lama ding dong. And he gets the Karl Anthony Townes jersey. And they're posing for pictures. Mutual respect. That's always fun to see. Right?
Danny G.
And Danny G. Was right. Wonka. I saw it on a plane.
Steve Covino
Oh, it was great.
Danny G.
I would never have watched it. I hated the original.
Steve Covino
I love that one.
Danny G.
I would never have watched Wonka by choice.
Steve Covino
Same.
Danny G.
But I was on a plane. I'm like, you know what? I got a couple hours. I'll watch Wonka blown away by his talent.
Steve Covino
It was great.
Danny G.
You hated the original.
Steve Covino
I never watched it. I didn't hate it. And I really was a Willy Wonka kind of kid.
Rich Davis
Gene Wilder was magic.
Steve Covino
Yeah. But Timothee Chalamet was really good. I didn't expect anything.
Rich Davis
I'll put it above the Johnny Depp one.
Danny G.
How about that?
Steve Covino
Okay. Yeah, yeah.
Rich Davis
By the way, Kat not only gave him the jersey, he signed it.
Steve Covino
Yeah. Signed the jersey for his man cave based on that. And so cool. Like I said, the mutual respect is always fun to see. Based on that, we go to you, Fox Sports Radio Nation, if there's other examples you want to share of people you changed your mind on. That's great. That's grand. That's Wonderful. Do that. 87799 on Fox. Can I share a quick one, but. Yeah, sure.
Danny G.
Quickly. Sorry, this is not sports related, but.
Rich Davis
When I, you know, Twilight and all that. Robert Pattinson was in Twilight, I'm like, I'll never find anybody from this, these movie series.
Steve Covino
Cool.
Danny G.
And then I saw a movie called.
Rich Davis
Good Time that he's in and I'm like, wow, this guy can really act.
Danny G.
This is not just some fluffy, you.
Steve Covino
Know, a different role.
Danny G.
Yeah. He still strike you as a weenie, though? I mean, he's in a.
Steve Covino
He's also Batman.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Danny G.
I saw this movie, Good Time.
Rich Davis
I had nothing, no idea about it. And it was like this amazing thriller. And I just thought, I'm like, this guy is really.
Danny G.
He played a cool guy. So maybe he is cool.
Steve Covino
He's a cool guy. Okay.
Rich Davis
Yeah.
Steve Covino
But based on the autograph and jersey given to Chalamet Chalamet, we open it up to Fox Sports Radio Nation and everybody here, the coolest thing you ever received from a celebrity, maybe it was at a game, at a concert, you know, you caught someone's drumstick. This is your chance to brag about it because those moments are kind of cool because in a sea of 55,000 people, you were the one person that snagged x, y and z. 877. 99 on Fox. I want to hear about it.
Danny G.
I have arguably the best answer to this.
Steve Covino
I have a few stories.
Danny G.
I have the best answer to this.
Steve Covino
The best Donald Trump.
Danny G.
My answer is the best. There's no answer better than the one.
Steve Covino
Wait, do you hear my answer?
Danny G.
Your answer's very good and everything. I love your answer, but mine, My answer is the best. And I'll, I'll do the old school radio tease. I'll let you know what it is next. But first we go to Dan Byers. Update. What's up, DB guys?
Rich Davis
NBA All Star Game reserves being announced and the Eastern Conference reserves are in, representing the Cleveland Cavaliers, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley. It'll be 3:18 38 player teams broken up from the 24 All Stars, plus the winner of the rising stars Challenge game playing in a tournament brackets in San Francisco next month. One other NBA note to pass along. Grizzlies guard John Morant. Doubtful for tonight's game against the Rockets. He was downgraded. While the Wall Street Journal says the FBI is looking into Heat guard Terry Rozier it dates back to March of 2023 when Rozier was a member of the Hornets and the FBI is looking into Rozier's actions during that game. Connected to the game connected to the New Orleans Pelicans as Rozier left early with an injury in the NFL Former Stanford head coach David Shaw joining Dan Campbell's staff with the Lions as their passing game coordinator under new offensive coordinator John Morton. The NFL says they are investigating the matter as it was unveiled by the Baltimore Banner, who spoke with at least six massage therapists who claimed Tucker exhibited inappropriate behavior. One final note and a follow up from what we talked about earlier. Those Utah Hockey Club nicknames yeah, apparently there has been a change buddy Eric tweeting in saying the Utah Hockey Club announced within the last 90 minutes they tabulated some numbers wrong and the Wasatch are not a finalist. Outlaws is. So it's either the Utah Outlaws, the Utah Mammoth or the Utah Hockey Club. Those are your three nickname finalists that you can choose from. I'm going Mammoth, you're going Mammoth.
Danny G.
I'm going Mammoth.
Steve Covino
I like the Outlaws.
Rich Davis
Yeah, I think I like the Outlaws too.
Steve Covino
Outlaws.
Danny G.
See, but you think Utah's an Outlaws.
Rich Davis
They're the Jazz.
Danny G.
Jazz in your town goes with it. All right. Thank you Dan Buyer. Appreciate you buddy.
Steve Covino
Thank you bud.
Danny G.

It's Julie Stewart Banks. I'm doing a new podcast from iHeart Podcasts and the National Hockey League, and I'm paired up with one of my favorite players, the always quotable Nate Thompson.
Rich Davis
I wore nine NHL sweaters and I have story after story to share. And believe it or not, I have plenty to say, and not just about hockey.
Steve Covino
Believe me, he does. Energy Line with Nate and JSB is the name of the podcast and it's gonna be quite the ride. We're officially especially line mates. Nate, we're the Energy Line.
Rich Davis
We'll have plenty of folks join us.
Steve Covino
Current players, some of my former teammates.
Rich Davis
Hall of Famers, and wait till you see some of the connections that Julie has. She has quite the Rolodex. Okay.
Steve Covino
We'll lean into Nate's playing experience and tap into our interests away from hockey and try to do what Energy alliance.
Rich Davis
Are supposed to do.
Steve Covino
Provide an emotional boost. How do you feel about all that, Nate?
Rich Davis
I'm vibing Julie.
Steve Covino
I'm ready to roll. Listen to Energy Line with Nate and jsb starting on February 4th on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Rich Davis
Good people. What's up? It's Questo Questlove and Team supreme. And I have been working hard to bring you some incredible episodes of Questlove supreme with guests you definitely don't want to miss. Now, one of the things I love about this Questlove supreme podcast is we got something for everybody, every type of musical ever. We enjoy speaking to the people who were the face of some movements, some people you've seen on stage or TV or magazine covers. But we also love speaking to the folks who are making it happen behind the scenes, and they paved the way for those that followed, you know, keystones to the culture. This season we've had some amazing one on one conversations like MJ Pill chatting up with hitmaker Sam Holland, Sugar Steve chatting with the left legend Nick Lowe. And I've had pleasures in doing one on one conversations with Willow, Sonata, Matreya, Kathleen, Hannah and the rza. These are conversations you won't hear anywhere else. So make sure you go back and you check those episodes out, alright? Listen to Questlove supreme on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pod.

The coolest thing you were ever handed by a celebrity or an athlete or you caught it at a concert.
Rich Davis
Yep.
Steve Covino
I want to hear about it.
Danny G.
I mean, clearly my tease didn't work because I had the best answer ever. Don't even care.
Steve Covino
Well, is it better than our buddy keto5o, Eric Reynolds? He said he caught a ball from Ichiro. Ichiro threw him a ball and when he made the hall of fame, he was like, dude. And I still have it. It's awesome. My daughter at a concert full of 55,000 people caught a guitar pick from Korn, from Monkey is himself from the band Korn.
Danny G.
No. Good for her.
Steve Covino
I mean, out of all those people. That's awesome. All right, what do you got?
Danny G.
The year was 1988.
Bobby Bones
88.
Steve Covino
What do you have, like Keith Hernandez's mustache hairs? What do you got?
Danny G.
I was at Nassau Coliseum on Long island at a wrestling event and Georgie Animal Steel ripped open the turnbuckle and he threw all of it right at me.
Steve Covino
That's the number one answer on the board.
Danny G.
No, I have.
Steve Covino
As a kid, he's eaten turnbuckle foam.
Danny G.
In a Ziploc bag. As a kid. I'm not A joke. It I had Turnbuckle from What a wrestling nerd. George the Animal Steel.
Steve Covino
I'm glad we waited for the number one answer.
Danny G.
Stop it. All right. Go to Montana and Mike Rapid Fire to wrap the show. What's up, Mike?
Rich Davis
Gentlemen, good afternoon.
David Benavidez
What you got?
Rich Davis
